This document provides an overview of learning theory and different types of learning. It discusses classical conditioning, operant conditioning, observational learning, and insight learning. Classical conditioning involves associating stimuli, like Pavlov's dogs learning to associate food with a bell. Operant conditioning is demonstrated through rat training experiments. Observational learning occurs through observing others, like children learning from parents. Insight learning involves understanding through connecting ideas. The document also discusses cognitive processes, memory, and factors that influence learning motivation.

Discipline-Based Literature Review (Learning and cognition)
Introduction
Before an in-depth comprehension of the topic of discussion, it is essential to define the concept of cognition and learning. Concerning the above, cognition has reference to the acquisition and comprehension of knowledge via factors such as senses, experiences, and thoughts. On the other hand, learning focuses on the process of individuals acquiring knowledge via teaching, studying, and experiences. The concept of learning and cognition are similar in several ways. Their main similarities comprise of experiencing and acquiring knowledge as discussed above. The learning process requires cognition. Cognition entails the process of learning ā any person who either hears or sees something new experiences cognitive processes. The above processes result in learning.
Cognition and learning are explained via elements such as operant and classical conditioning, behaviorism, and social learning theory (Looi et al., 2017). The above elements involve different ways through which learning occurs. It consists of using the environment as a critical platform through which the acquisition of knowledge occurs. Rewards and punishments may be used to instill specific behavior among individuals. This may be done through the use of a stimulus to support knowledge acquisition and promote certain behavior. About the above, the paper discusses behaviorism, social learning theory, classical, and operant conditioning.
Discussion on the Literature Review
Attention serves as the first process involved in the learning process. For students to start learning, they have to pay attention to the stimuli they are experiencing. Attention is not unlimited. This means that it may be quite fleeting. According to educational psychologists, an average individual may hold about two/three learned tasks depending on their attention at the same time. An average individual may attend to one complex activity at a time. It is almost impossible for a person to undertake simultaneous tasks at the same time. The information that one acquires undergoes a process through which it is put into memory through the storage process (Sokolov, Miall, & Ivry, 2017). The mind comprises of different levels of memory. The levels involve the aspect of information traveling with them to ensure the process of learning. To understand the concept of learning and cognition, it is essential to evaluate the following:
Operant Conditioning
Operant conditioning is a learning approach developed by B.F Skinner. The method occurs via the use of both rewards and punishments to support the development of specific behavior. Operant conditioning has a close .

Learning and cognition are two words which are seen to be similar since both need each other for the processes to work. Learning is acquiring knowledge from oneās experience, from what is taught or through studying while cognition one acquires knowledge and understanding thorough senses, experience and from oneās thoughts. So basically, these two relate in that cognition process requires learning and for learning to take place cognition must be involved. All learning happens through interactions with oneās surrounding and itās a dynamic process with regards to an organismās life span.
Operant conditioning
Operant conditioning is a mode of learning through which reinforcers stimulus are involved following oneās action. It focuses on the cause of action and consequences afterwards, in attempt of understanding behavior. Operant conditioning can be used to modify behavioral patterns of children, adults as well as pets. It is based on the fact that when a response is followed by a good state of affairs, learning is fortified (Martin & Pear, 2015). It involves use of both positive and negative reinforcement.
Positive reinforcement is used to increase a desirable behavior of people. It includes praising someone, treats and giving out prices. For instance, when you give a child a reward for having good grades in the examination, he or she will always work hard to have even better grades next time so that he or she can have the reward. For this to work, one should give a reward which the person likes. If you give a reward which the person youāre giving to does not like, then it will have no impact to him or her. Negative reinforcement involves undermining undesirable behaviors by removing an unpleasant reinforcer. This can be done by introducing some form of paying fines in places where youāve gone wrong or when not doing as expected.
Another way is by use of positive and negative punishment. Punishment is usually used in cases where an increase in undesirable behaviors tends to decreases behavior. Positive punishment involves putting consequences in place in order to weaken the undesirable behavior. An example of a positive punishment is by grounding a child for misbehaving. This will alter the childās behavior in that he or she will not misbehave due to fear of being grounded. Negative punishment involves removal of favorable outcomes after an occurrence of undesirable behavior (Mason, 2017). In adult situation, if a person is employed and doesnāt satisfy his employerās demands on a particular day, the employer may decide not to pay the person payment for that particular day. This will make other employees work to well to avoid not being paid and will also have an impact on the one not paid.

Operant conditioning
Operant conditioning is a learning method that was developed by B. F. Skinner and that
occurs through punishments and rewards for behavior. There is a link created between behaviors
and consequences in operant conditioning. Practically, operant conditioning is a reversible
behavior study maintained through schedules of reinforcements (Saul, 2015). According to
operant conditioning, learning of a behavior cannot be achieved just through motivations and
internal thoughts. Skinner believed that a behaviorās external causes should be the only
considerations. Skinnerās theory of āoperantā only considers external factors that have effect on
a behavior as well as its consequences. Under operant conditioning, there are reinforcements and
punishments which both have effects on behavior.

Using Renewable Energy Essays
With a growing population around the world, the need for more energy increases as well. We are accustomed to using fossil fuels as our central source of energy for everyday exploiting. Fossil fuels are a natural matter that is found in the ground of the Earth that is formed in a previous time period millions of years ago and are nonrenewable. Fossil fuels are burned in order to fabricate energy. When nonrenewable resources have been used, they cannot restock themselves or be used again. Renewable energy is a supply of energy that can be used as many times necessary and does not necessitate a compound made from the Earth. There are several different types of fossil fuels and renewable energy that we use for energy sources today....show more content...for ships. Soon after, the windmill is invented. At the beginning of the 1900 s, hydroelectric power for electricity is introduced. Meanwhile, renewable energy is essentially forgotten until the late 1900 s because other sources of energy by using fossil fuels are booming. Renewable energy becomes a topic of interest again in the 1970 s when there is a gas shortage because of the tapering production of oil from the Middle East. Although, people begin to realize soon after this that fossil fuels can t last ceaselessly and that a new source of energy needs to be established (Hoyle).
One of the paramount benefits of using renewable energy rather than fossil fuels is that it s much cleaner. There are no toxins and pollutants pushed into the air by burning like there are when using fossil fuels. Producing energy with clean air makes renewable energy more competent to the environment and to people for pr

Glory Movie Accuracy
The movie, Glory was an exceptional movie depicting the bloody American Civil War and the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. Many famous actors starred in the movie, while Broderick portrayed Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, Washington and Freeman portrayed African American infantrymen in the 54th Massachusetts Infantry. The movie presents many historically accurate events, however some parts are flawed and completely false. Especially throughout this report, I will constantly discuss how Robert Gould Shaw was falsely portrayed and the extent of doing so is just to prove a point how wrong the movie is about the Union colonel. Even scenes were swept completely off the movie, though they might have had an important role in the regiment s legacy....show more content...Within the first fifteen minutes of the film, Robert Gould Shaw goes to a luxurious party held for returning officers of the battle. He was then asked by Governor John A. Andrew to become the commanding officer for a newly founded regiment of black soldiers. Upon the same exact day, Shaw agrees to take charge of the the regiment. Though once again, the movie wrong about the event.
Frederick Douglass actually had more involvement in the 54th Massachusetts than depicted in the movie. Also in reality, his sons were listed into the volunteer infantry. Their names were Charles and Lewis Douglass, even though they did not take any part of the movie. Frederick also gave the idea to President Lincoln for the creation of colored regiments. Global village (McLuhan, 1964) is no longer a new concept in the 21st century. This is the place where all cultures integrate and cultural boundaries seem to be eliminated. Besides offering new opportunities for people all over the world to learn about foreign cultures, global village also presents such challenges as cultural conflicts, cultural diverging or assimilation. In such context, learning how to become a competent intercultural communicator in this century has never been more urgent. Comparison of Two Newspaper Articles
These two articles are about asylum seekers. Both articles agree that there are too many asylum seekers, but are presented in a very different way to each other. Article one is a shorter more aggressive tract, not intended to make the reader think about the article but just to instantly agree with it. Article two however stands back and looks at the problem, why it has arisen and suggests ways that there can be resolutions. Both papers also criticise the government for being too lenient, and for not taking any action. Both identify David Blunkett, naming the government s minister responsible for this area of policy, an important factual ingredient. Other exiled composers, on the other hand, flourished during these years. Multiple symphonies, chamber music pieces, and other works were written during this time. Composers expressed this period of writing as a transformation, but also risky and inventive. Stravinsky, who traveled to the United States at the start of the war, saw one of the most productive and yet grounding periods of his writing career. Stravinsky found himself in a conservative environment, which in return, may have lead to his consolidated style in Petroushka and other writings of this time.
Another scene that did fairly well during the war was the state of French Music. One major change was the location. Due to war efforts in Paris, most of the French music scene, including the French Orchestra was moved to Rennes, France. The financial support during this switch, however, surprisingly increased and so did the amount of patrons at to their performances. Money intake increased four hundred and fifty nine percent while concert frequency and regularity also increased. Why the sudden increase in activity? Many believe it may be to due a certain mentality and psychology that people want to get away from the obsessions of the present time, understandably referring to the exhausting and troubling times of the war. A few downsides to this rather successful scene, however, stemmed from the Nazi power and their regulations on censorship. One guideline of the music in Europe was the banning of degenerate

Election In Nepal Essay
Recently, Nepal has completed two phases of local elections in six provinces covering 67 districts out of 75 districts, leaving the 8 districts in the province 2 for the third phase. The election result has imparted important, some expected and some unexpected, lessons for Nepali politics.
First, people were eager to participate in the elections. The overall participation level reached 71 percent. It was only expected in view of the fact that local elections were not conducted for almost two decades and local bodies were run by bureaucrats throughout that period.
Second, there was a clear disconnect between Madheshi political leaders now organized around the Rashtriya Janata Party Nepal and Madheshi voters. RJP leaders had...show more content...Franklin D. Roosevelt has said, In our personal ambitions we are individualists. It explains the growing disconnect between the RJP leaders and Madheshi voters. The leaders have been pursuing their personal ambitions that do not reflect the desire of the voters for better schools, hospitals, sanitation facilities and roads. So the Madheshi voters have supported those political parties that could deliver what they want.
Indeed, identity politics has relevance for the oppressed people. As the Standford Encyclopedia of Philosophy suggests, also has troubling implications for models of the self, political inclusiveness, and our possibilities for solidarity and resistance It appears that it has dawned on the Nepali voters before on the Nepali leaders that the politics of identity is not good for the country. It is reflected in the local election result.

(Music Therapy FAQ) The 20th century discipline began after World War I and WWII when community musicians of all types, both amateur and professional, went to Veteran hospitals around the country to play for the thousands of the patients. Notable physical and emotional responses to music led the doctors and nurses to request the hiring of musicians by the hospitals. It was soon evident that the hospital musicians needed some prior training before entering the facility and so the demand grew for a college curricu

Colony Pledging Ceremony
All,
We are almost halfway through the expansion here at the College of Charleston! There has been a noticeable spike in interest in our organization over the past week when compared to last week. After presenting and getting in contact with several sororities and other student organizations, our names list almost quadrupled in size. The sororities and organizations seem to be very receptive to our mission here and they have been supportive overall. It seems that every day we have someone come to the tent with another referral to give us.
Overall, the expansion has been going along smoothly. The only issue that we have been facing is getting a chapter to come down to perform the colony pledging ceremony. We originally had Iota Kappa locked down, but they just recently backed out due to time and logistical reasons. We are working hard to fill that spot and provide an unforgettable first experience for the men of the College of Charleston Crescent Colony or, what I am calling them, the CCCC!

Gender Stratification Essay
According to Helsin, Possamai and Possamai Inesedy (2011 p. 625) gender stratification occurs when a specific gender has unequal access to power, property and prestige. As gender is classed as a master status it forms a significant structural characteristic within society (Helsin, Possamai Possamai Inesedy 2011, p. 310). Therefore, it is society, through social construction that determines what gender norms are considered appropriate and can be passed through generations of people via agents of socialisation such as family, mass media or in the form of symbolic interaction (Macionis Plummer 1997, pp. 139 141).

Furthermore, there appears to be a lack of women in leadership and decision making roles which is demonstrated by a study conducted by Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC). They discovered that during 2006 to 2007, no women in rural organisations held Chief Executive Officer positions, and under 16 per cent of the member

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as ādistorted thinkingā.

Learning Theory Essay
1. Learning Theory Essay
I. Presuppositions/truth claims:
Human beings are created creatures with predetermined human (distinct and separate from animal) potential and an in born slavery to imperfection
/sin. Learners may have experienced God's redemption and therefore may opt to perform in a way which will show itself at times and/or the residual
benefit of being made in God's image may at times prevail, such as a humanitarian's actions or a child doing "good". God positions man in his fallen
and therefore sinful state as neither essentially good nor even simply neutral, so the innate/native moral nature of humans is bad.
Human beings are psychologically interactive. Because humans are created in the image of God; we are born with the innate psychological and...show

Automated processes are those stored in long term memory but accessed subconsciously or autonomously.
Environmental input may or may not be processed into the human's long term memory, and may not even be acknowledged/receive attention/be
perceived in a person's short term memory . Short term memory permits the human's conscious direct interaction with environmental factors. Humans
are interactive, constantly processing incoming sensory information by comparing and contrasting (assimilation/accommodation) and recombining it
with schematas/templates/prototypes or building upon scaffolding already in the mind. Motivation to learn is native/intrinsic to humans and the degree
to which one participates is encouraged or discouraged by many factors. These factors include the status of the person's basic needs (current
physiological and/or psychological state) and anticipation of outcome (advantage/disadvantage) of gaining said knowledge.
Understanding is connecting (compare/contrast then integrate) new ideas to preāexisting ones, forming meanings, expectations, generalizations, and
sometimes new concepts (insights may fall anywhere in this process). III. Practical Applications:
Class time is opened with an activity, usually for the whole class viewing the overhead projection/smart board, which introduces some aspect of the
lesson in an attempt to assist the student in retrieving any information he/she may already have in his memory. I

2. psychology and learning Essay
There are many different kinds of ways that people and animals learn. People can adjust the way they learn to the different situations in which they are
learning and what they have to learn. One form of learning is known as conditioning. Conditioning emphasises the relationship between stimuli and
responses. The two types of conditioning found are Classical conditioning and Operant conditioning. Learning may occur in different ways.
Psychologists have distinguished between different types of learning, these being Observational Learning and Insight Learning.
Classical conditioning refers to a simple form of learning, which occurs through the repeated association of two
or more different stimuli. Learning is...show more content...
And example of operant conditioning is the training of rats to press a lever in order to obtain a food reward. The pressing of the lever (conditioned
response) is associated with the food reward (unconditioned stimulus). After a training period, the rat will show the conditioned response of pressing
the lever even without the presence of the unconditioned stimulus of the food. Observational learning occurs when
a person or an animal uses observation of another's actions and their consequences to guide their own future actions. The person being observed is
referred to as a model. For this reason observational learning is also referred to as modeling. Observational learning involves four stages, attention,
retention, reproduction and motivationāreinforcement. Attention is when the learner observers the actions of the model (The higher the status of the
model the more attention the learner will pay and the closer their imitations will be to the models actions). Retention is when the learner retains in their
memory what they have just observed. Reproduction is when the learner will reproduce or imitate the actions of the model that they have just observed.
Reproduction is when the learner reproduces or imitates what they have just observed. Motivationāreinforcement can come in various ways. External
reinforcement, through praise for doing something well, selfāreinforcement, through the

3. Social Learning Theory Essay
Albert Bandura's Social Learning Theory describes the process through which people acquire new info, forms of behavior, or attitudes from others
firsthand or vicariously. The likelihood of a behavior presenting itself will rely on the amount of reinforcement it receives and the value that the
individual associates to it. While some behavior may be rewarded, others may produce unfavorable responses. An individual will learn from the
consequences of these actions and when a similar situation arises, they will alter their behavior according to what was most successful in the past.
Through the Social Learning Theory, one can absorb new behaviors from others or one can form attitudes toward something that can in turn influence
behavior. The...show more content...
Cases of domestic abuse are good examples of such learning. On a positive note, proāsocial behavior is another result of indirect and direct social
learning. Empathy and morals are major contributors to proāsocial behavior that are usually learned by children from positive role models. The
possession of empathy and strong morals cause an indirect result of social learning, while the observance of another individual's proāsocial behavior
will help them learn directly.
Finally, but not limited to, gender linkedābehaviors can be attributed to the Social Learning Theory. Children learn to behave in ways they are
expected to behave as male or female by observing and imitating behaviors of people of their gender. After learning their genderālinked behaviors at
home, children are enforced further by their peers and school administration.
As a whole, are behavior is one of the factors on which we are judged by and are appreciated for. Seeing as the Social Learning Theory has such a
major role in shaping our behavior and has survived for so long, it can be classified as one of the most solid theories in the field of Psychology.
Additionally, what makes one favor it over other theories is the fact that it emphasizes how the interplay of personal factors, environmental factors, and
behavior conjunctly affects our behavior. Due to the fact that this theory is so influential to our lives, practical applications of it can be found
anywhere. In a

4. Essay about Learning Theory
Learning is defined as a, "relatively permanent change in an organism's behavior due to experience" (Myers, 2010). The purpose of this paper is to
present a critical analysis of the different theoretical approaches and explanations for learning through an examination of the theories of behaviorism,
social learning and cognitive. I will investigate the principles and postulates of each theory, their strengths and their weaknesses. It is my belief that
because each theory is best applicable to varying types of learning, it is best that a combination of each is used to provide the most complete learning
experience.
Behaviorism is a theory that focuses on objectively observable behaviors, while discounting mental activities....show more content...
Furthermore this theory provided a basis for John Watson's idea that, "human emotions and behaviour...are mainly a bundle of conditioned responses"
(p. 235 ) which is applicable to the treatment of such psychological disorders as phobias. For example, to treat a patient with a fear of spiders, one
might attempt to remove the phobia by counteracting conditioning: learning a response that is unsuited with fear. Classical conditioning has been very
useful in the treatment of substance abuse in which therapy includes an avoidance of settings associated with the use of that substance, as well as an
actual reversal* of such positive associations using aversive experiences (p 235).
However, not all learning is a simple association between conditioned and unconditioned stimulus, but rather it involves a complex array of cognitive
and biological contributions. The failure to recognize the cognitive processes involved in learning results in the acquired expectancy that the
unconditioned stimulus (UCS) will occur. This is known as predictability. For example, the association between alcohol and nausea in the presence of a
nauseaāinducing drug, is lessened by the alcoholic's awareness of the drug (p 233). Also, the theory fails to account for the biological constraints on
an animal's capacity for conditioning. Rather than Pavlov's belief that any "perceivable" stimulus can serve as a conditioned stimulus (CS), it is more
realistic that each species'
