Traumatic Brain Injury Papers
A traumatic brain injury (also known as a TBI) is a hit to the head that causes damage to the brain
cells as well as causes the person to become confused, as a result of the information that s being sent
to neuron to neuron getting interrupted. When the impulses are not going the correct way it causes the
person to change their personality, attitude and emotions. Not to mention that no two brain injuries are
alike. For the medical team they take a different approach.
The individuals impacted the most by a traumatic brain injury are newborns to 4 years old, young
adults 15 24 and elderly age 75 and older. (Solomons, Saltsman Jamieson) ( January 3,2017 Placitella,
C ) A traumatic brain injury can be classified into three different groups mild, moderate and severe. A
mild patient may lose consciousness, typically for a few seconds or a few minutes. A moderate patient
can lose consciousness for 1 24 hours. A severe patient can lose consciousness or be in a coma for
more than 24 hours. It can also be put into subcategories coma, vegetative state, persistent vegetative

Creation Stories of Babylon, Egypt, and Genesis Essay
Creation myths of Babylon, Egypt, and Genesis
There are many similarities in the Babylonian, Egyptian, and Genesis stories. In all the stories one god
creates man and explains how all things on earth come to being. They also set up their calendars and
show examples of evil within each story to set up moral rules for man to live by. How do these
elements compare between each of these stories?
In the Babylonian myth the God Marduk creates man from the blood of another god Kingu. Blood will
I compose, bring a skeleton into being, Produce a lowly, primitive creature, Man shall be his name. In
Egyptian myth the God Rae creates man and takes this form. In the Genesis story there is only one

After cutting the body of Tiamat in two, he made the Earth having the sun and moon come in and out
of her ribs. Her head he made a mountain and out of her eyes flowed the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
Then he disposed her eleven monster serpents, which include a snake, and made them into the signs of
the Zodiac. In the Egyptian story Rae names things and they come into being and creates man last. He
then takes the form of a man and becomes Pharaoh or the God King. Similarly, in Genesis, God
creates the Earth from a formless void into geophysical features, as we know it. Then he creates all the
plants and animals and last creates man, then on the seventh day he rested. In having God take seven
days to make everything it sets up a weekly calendar, where as on the seventh day everyone rests. The
one difference in the stories is that he let man name and have dominion over all things he created. This
shows how all things came into being in all three stories and even sets up the political environment of
the Babylonian and Egyptian cultures. There are other parallels in the Babylonian and Genesis stories
not told here for example; in the Babylonian story one of the first Gods to appear is Lahmu, meaning
Mud. In the Genesis story, the first man called Adam, also meaning Mud. You can also see the
relationship in their calendars

Analysis Of Disco Daze
Sidney Hook said, Everyone who remembers his own education remembers teachers, not methods and
techniques. The teacher is the heart of the educational system. Mr. Fitzpatrick an experienced teacher
and Mr. Meyer a brand new teacher were both influenced by their teachers to help them realize their
passion to teach. Mr. Fitzpatrick was my U.S. History teacher my freshman year of high school and I
remembered when he taught anyone could tell how much he loved history and how every year he
brings joy to so many students by hosting Disco Daze. Disco Daze allows anyone who participates to
go back in time for a little while and truly experience what it was like living in the 70s. It was a truly
memorable experience as a student and I still look forward to it as a senior. Mr. Meyer reaches out to
students through his coaching. Many athletes look up to him and every time they are around him they
are smiling and laughing. It is his first year teaching and he already has students who look up to him
as a role model. Comparing the years of experience they have can show the similarities and
differences between how they talk about their teaching styles, their inspiration that made them decide
to be a teacher, and the memorable experiences they have had as a teacher.
David Fitzpatrick a.ka. Fitz is a history teacher at Southeast Polk High School and is in his 23rd year

Islm Curve
Understanding Equilibrium in the IS/LM Model 1995 version Prof. Humberto Barreto1 Introduction:
This brief work is designed to provide additional ammunition for the student in the ongoing war
against IS/LM confusion and ignorance. The author has claimed in his Notes on Macroeconomic
Theory (1995) that, There should be no mystery or uncertainty surrounding the IS/LM analysis at this
point. IS/LM curves are simply a short cut to finding the equilibrium values for income and interest
rate. There are two equations and two unknownsÑwhat simpler strategy than to put them on one graph
could be devised? (p. 52) The author still worries, however, that the student is memorizing the
equilibrium condition, IS=LM generates Ye, without really ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The student should see that the existing values of i and Y will have a tendency to change. The interest
rate will fall because there is a shortage of bonds and as the price of bonds rises to drive the bond
market to equilibrium, the interest rate will fall. The equilibrium interest rate, of course, will be found
at the intersection of the Ms and Md schedules. Output will increase because a falling interest rate will
trigger higher investment expenditures by firms. The increased I will increase AD and, therefore, Ye
will increase. But then the higher income will shift money demand up, which will increase the
equilibrium interest rate, and the same chain will be triggered leading to a decrease in the equilibrium
level of output. The student undoubtedly knows that, eventually, after running through a series of
converging loops, the system will settle into a mutually compatible, or general equilibrium,
combination of i and Y. If you think the iteration process is a messy and cumbersome means of
calculating the general equilibrium, or final, resting place of i and Y, you should applaud the use of the
IS/LM graph. In one quick graph, we can immediately and easily see the system s general equilibrium
solution. From our initial i0, Y0 combination, the IS/LM graph allows us to instantly see the final
solution and to predict a decrease in interest rates and increase in output. However, a drawback is that
it does not show how or why

The Impact Of Protests And Social Movements In The Civil...
Will protests and social movements be what they are today if media wasn t such an influence? Social
movements are groups of individuals that focus on a certain situation that has specific political or
social issues, that they wanted to change ( McLeod, 2011). Social movements use the media to express
concerns and provide evidence to communicate their points of concern and interest. Various blogs
such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are primary sources that organizations use to advertise and
introduce the movements and protests. Protest are what the social movements do to make a statement
to express their disapproval of the situation ( McLeod, 2011). Protesting is a form of expressing one s
opinions and concerns about issues that happen in their society. Dr. King often used the media through
his protesting for civil rights during his marches for accurate context. One of his famously recorded
protest were the March on Washington For Jobs and Freedom where he delivered his well known
speech I Have a Dream this successfully removed the barriers from the states restrictions. Media has a
great impact on protesting ever since the Civil Rights Movement (1954 1968) to the Gay Marriage
Rights (2015). Media coverage concerning protesting allowed the country to become aware of these
events regarding certain movements. Thus media is necessary for protesting and social movements in
our society. Many outlets of media such as various news companies and social media outlets

The Film Shawshank Redemption By Frank Darabont Essay
In the Film Shawshank Redemption (1994) directed by Frank Darabont, Andy was wrongfully
convicted of killing his wife and is shipped off to Shawshank prison. The prison is run by Warden
Norton who is a corrupt leader. When Andy first arrives at the prison he is very timid and shy. As the
film progresses, Andy breaks out of his shell and starts building relationships with Red and the other
prisoners. Throughout the film we learn that Andy is an ex banker who Norton enlist to help him with
his taxes and balancing the books. Soon enough Andy realizes that Norton was laundering money. The
movie displays many of the concepts that we have learned throughout Organizational Behavior
textbook written by Cohen Et Al. Throughout the paper I will be talking about how Shawshank
Redemption relates to the concepts we have learned in the textbook specifically in chapter 8 and 10.
Chapter eight of the Organizational Textbook talks about personal systems. In Shawshank each
character had their own personal systems (Cohen Et Al pg. 172). (Appendix A) Andy had strong
values. He believed in building strong relationships and was very generous towards the other
prisoners. One example of this is when Andy decided to help some prisoners get there high school
diploma / GED ( Darabot, 1994). Andy had a strong belief for education and thought it was important
for his fellow prisoners to have an equal chance of getting there diploma. He also believed in bettering
the Shawshank library. In the movie

Alice In Wonderland Analysis
Marriage has not always been about love. All throughout history, women were uprooted from their
normal lives and forced into loveless relationships as ways to provide their family money or power.
This is the starting for Disney s Alice in Wonderland. Alice is a young woman who is proposed by
Hamish, the son of Lord Ascot, per her mother s request. After running away from the proposal, Alice
falls down a rabbit hole into Underland where she meets some peculiar characters. Told that she must
kill the Jabberwocky as it has been foretold, Alice runs from her destiny only to realize that she must
do something to protect her friends and the place she dreamed of so long ago. After killing the
Jabberwocky, Alice returns to her to reject Hamish and start working for his father and travels the
world. Alice is using her dream to solve her marriage problem so her subconscious is using characters
that represents people or her inner conscious in the real world. The similarities between the real
humans and problems in Alice s world and the characters of Underland is closer than one may think.
The iconic White Rabbit represent Alice s mother as both lead them to a new situation that Alice does
not like. Tweedledee and Tweedledum represents the confusion Alice is facing because although she
does not want to get married, she does not want to be a burden to her family so in the dream, the twins
points in different directions and try to match. They fight as if one is trying to silence the

similarities coming from the customs of the Middle Ages. A look at the make up of the groups

knightly quest involved in each book shows how alike they are but yet different.

Introduction . Salt, Scientifically Referred To As Halite,
Introduction
Salt, scientifically referred to as Halite, is chemical composition of Sodium and Chlorine minerals. It s
presence in the everyday lives of individuals is incalculable; Salt is evidently prevalent in our diet and
methods used for food preservation, however, salt is surprisingly present in other elements of our lives
as significant as language. This essay will appreciate the various roles that salt plays along with the
risks that are attached to the ingestion of this particle. Additionally, this paper will outline the history
of salt with specific emphasis placed on its extraction processes, and its influences on the English

The salt bed is subsequently blasted, crushed, and broken into smaller pieces which are brought to the
surface for processing and finessing. The mining of salt beds results in rock salt which is used
primarily as a highway de icer (Kostick 2004). Alternatively, mechanical evaporation occurs through
the vacuum pan process. As described in the article introduced above by Kostick (2004), this energy
conserving process begins with a salt saturated brine which is brought to a boil, rectangular pans with
steam heated immersion coils are used to facilitate the evaporation process (Kostick, 2004). Once the
evaporation occurs, rotating rakes collect the salt and the extracted product is laid out to dry. The
mechanical evaporation of salt saturated solution results in flake shaped salt, often used for cheeses,
butter, and baked goods as described in Kostick (2004).
In the same article, written by Kostick (2004), the author states that the extraction of sea salt requires
an entirely unique process called solar evaporation. Halite isn t the only mineral present in sea water,
because of this, each mineral must be separated from the water in order to extract the salt. First,
seawater is collected distributed in ponds that function to concentrate and ultimately evaporate the
minerals within the water. The brine is subsequently circulated across a multiplicity of interconnected
ponds with the salinity increasing as it transfers

Introduction
14th August 2015 marked the 80th anniversary after President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Social
Security Act in the year 1935. The program has been important in alleviating poverty amongst the
elderly population. However, the system has started to how its age. The OASID (Social Security and
Disability Insurance Trust Funds) is presently running on cash deficit as the baby boomers retire. The
DI (Disability Insurance) program has been running on deficits for several uses and has been predicted

benefits that it is collecting in revenue and has been projected that the trusts funds will run out in the
year 2033 (Bernan Press, 204). At this instance, all the beneficiaries regardless of income and age will
face an immediate twenty three percent benefits cut. The longer term OASI would need more than a 4
percent point rise in the payroll tax so as to close the gap in funding over the next 75 years or benefits
would have to be reduced below the promised 27 percent level by the year 2090 (Bernan Press, 2014).

How Did Alexander III Respond To The Czars In Russia
Since 1881 the czars all over, especially Russia, were resisting change. Along with change resistance,
they kept autocratic rule. From this the czars Alexander III and Nicholas II both lead their propel to
social unrest. Alexander III came into power in 1881 from his father Alexander II. He used very harsh
measures. He did this to try and wipe out revolutionaries. For example, Alexander III used strict
private codes on public published documents even private letters, sort of like spying. He also had
secret police carefully keep an eye on both secondary schools and universities. This made the people
when they found out very confused. Teachers had to send detailed reports to the czar about every

leadership was already weak but that didn t stop him. The people were so angry with him and his
autocratic policies that they marched to his Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. There they carried a
petition asking for better rates. Nicholas didn t care, instead he ordered his generals to fire at them.
This became known as the Bloody Sunday and the revolution of 1905. Little by little he kept falling.
But, all these bad decisions were no match to his most fatal mistake... keeping Russia in the war. He

The reason we cannot breathe liquid water is because the oxygen we use to make the water is
guaranteed to two hydrogen atoms, and we cannot breathe the resultant liquid. The oxygen is unusable
to our lungs in this form. Humans cannot breathe because our lungs do not have enough surface area
to absorb enough oxygen form water, and the coating in our lungs is modified to handle air rather than
water. There have been experiments with humans breathing other liquids like fluorocarbons. A
fluorocarbon is a compound formed by replacing one or more of the hydrogen atoms in a hydrocarbon
with fluorine atoms. Fluorocarbons can dissolve enough oxygen and our lungs can draw the oxygen
out. Fish breathe oxygen dissolved in water with the help of their gills. Fish have gills and why this
works is because fishes are cold blooded and this reduces oxygen loads. Warm blooded animals like
whales breathe air just as we humans do, as it is hard to extract enough oxygen using their gills.

The Causes And Effects Of Poverty In The United States
Poverty, a common problem in the US and yet, something that people consistently overlook. We are
often unaware of the magnitude of poverty in the U.S and sometimes even disregard it. People living
in destitution are at greater risk for behavioral and mental problems. Children or Teens who live in
poverty are prone to poor academic achievements, become school dropouts , or grow subject to abuse
or neglect. People in poverty also occasionally show signs of anxiety and depression.
As of the 2016 census, approximately 323.1 million people reside in the United States of America.
14.5% of those Americans living in poverty, meaning that 45.3 million Americans are affected by
poverty, an immense increase from 8 million in 2008. 97.3 million people who occupy the U.S are
considered low income and 41 million people struggle with hunger in the United States. 1 in every 2
people are considered poor or receive low income. Poverty is not equal among various demographics,
for instance, in 2015, 12% of men lived in poverty in the USA, and 14.8% of women lived in poverty
and among non citizens the poverty rate is 22.8%.
60% percent of all jobs produced between 2008 and 2012 are paid minimum wage. For every 4
unemployed Americans, 1 job is available. In 2012 the black unemployment was 14.0. Income in the
US varies greatly considerably across ethnic groups and race. For instance, 3.6% of Asians and 5.8%
of Hispanics or Latinos face unemployment.

Examples Of The Ultimatum In A Lesson Before Dying
The Ultimatum
When thinking of losing dignity, the first thing that might come to mind is getting caught screeching
to a catchy song in your bedroom or bragging about getting a prize for an award but then ending up
getting nothing. These things seem trivial compared to the stakes of losing your dignity in the novel A
Lesson Before Dying written by Ernest Gaines. Throughout the novel, it emphasizes the fact that the
ultimatum of making small changes and differences will positively affect someone s dignity.
In the novel A Lesson Before Dying, dignity is something that every character in the book doesn t
want to lose. This applies accordingly to Jefferson, a character who is falsely accused of murder and is
given the death sentence. In the court, his lawyer publicly shamed him and called him an animal and a
fool , and when accidentally calling Jefferson a man, he profusely apologized as if it were a sin. Due
to this fact, Jefferson s goal is to become a man with dignity with the help of his cousin Grant before
he dies. Throughout the novel, it emphasizes the ultimatum of making small changes and differences
will positively affect someone s dignity. This is proven when Grant becomes a man of dignity after
meeting repeatedly with Jefferson, and likewise with Jefferson to Grant. Along with that, ... Show

On page 186, when Jefferson receives pecans from Grant s students, he is grateful and shows it for the
first time ever since Grant began visiting him in his cell. When asked if he wanted anything, Jefferson
hesitated before replying Tell tell the chirren thank you for the pe pecans. This was a huge milestone
in the book because from this point on Jefferson attitude towards life starts to become a little less
negative. He starts appreciating things more, like Grant coming to visit him in his cell and stops
referring to himself as a hog, or a filthy

Taylor s view of motivation applies to people who tend to work within narrow job confines such as on
a production line. These are people who can be paid according to the amount of work that they do or
units they produce. This is known as piece work .
For many people pay is still a prime motivator. For example, within Kellogg s many employees are
motivated by cash alternatives which include the opportunity to buy and sell their holiday days. Taylor
s theory breaks down jobs into components or specialist tasks through the division of labour. This
especially applies to production processes within large companies like Kellogg s. These rewards can
help to increase productivity and profitability. The danger with this is that individuals are simply
focused on output to get rewards so quality might suffer as a result of employees rushing to do the job.
Scientific management is not a process that allows development of people. It limits their ability to take
ownership of what they do. Kellogg s staff are encouraged to be creative and use their imagination to
contribute towards change. Consequently, Taylor s view of monetary reward for output is not
appropriate for the motivation required for this type of workplace.
Maslow
Maslow s theory relates motivation to a hierarchy of needs. At the bottom are essential physiological
needs such as air, food, shelter and clothing. As individuals satisfy one level of need, their motivations

Importance Of My Experience In High School
Throughout my time as a high school student at Augusta High School, I have experienced numerous
new opportunities. A big opportunity I have taken advantage of is the Butler Academy program
offered through the high school. By the time I graduate, I will have a great amount of college credit
allowing me to finish off this school year as a high school graduate as well as earning an Associates
degree in Science and Engineering Technology. In high school, I have been involved in soccer,
football, bowling, track and field, National Honors Society, and Friends of Freshman. I have also
recently started to help First Baptist Church with their AWANA club program. I grew up living little
ways outside of town, and currently, live out on a farm Southwest of Augusta. Living on a farm has
taught me many useful skills. I have also gotten the chance to work for my neighbor and help around
his property as well. After high school, I plan on entering the workforce and finding a job that not only
pays well but one I can use my college degree and interest in. For my senior project, I plan on learning
how to become a horse farrier. This choice most likely comes from the fact that I have grown up on a
farm with horses of my own and have taken great interest in them. There is a side of me that enjoys
working with farm animals, being outdoors, and applying the skills I know while also gaining new
ones. My mom has told me I have a special talent when it comes to working with horses. In the past,

Standing Seam Roof Research Paper
Over a long period of time, a consumer s most traditional choice for a roofing system was asphalt
shingles. Other options were sparse and if you wanted to purchase a distinct roofing material
compared to asphalt shingles; metal roofing was one of the roofing materials that would do the job.
When most homeowners begin contemplating about a metal roof, all they could visualize were the
roofing materials they had observed on barns and commercial buildings. Now metal roofing is
appearing on homes all around neighborhoods. There are few types of metal roofing, but there is a
distinct type called standing seam metal roofing. A standing seam roof is a metal roof where the seams
position above the flat, steady surface. It appears contrasting to the rigid metal roofs seen on barns and
industrial buildings. Standing seam roofing is amongst the most permanent and maintenance free type
of metal roofing. Standing Seam is becoming more prominent with homeowners because of the
several advantages such as durability, energy efficiency, and high seams, fewer seams, and color
choices. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If homeowners live in areas known for severe weather, there isn t a better roofing option. A standing
seam roof will not shrink, crack, or erode. Standing seam is one of the most secure roofs for hurricane
condition winds and hail. It offers remarkable defense against fires. Many manufacturers deliver
systems rated for up to extremely high wind uplift. Homeowners can put their minds at peace knowing
with a standing seam metal roof that it will last well over fifty years, but if it was installed properly.

Determination In The Marble Champ By Gary Soto
Determination is all over but most don t reach for it. In The Marble Champ by Gary Soto the
protagonist Lupe is an extremely intelligent girl who is severely un athletic. The story is about her
quest for athletic glory. She ends up trying marbles and becoming a champ. Lupe is determined. This
is shown in the reasons that she practices constantly, she is determined to win, and that she is
determined to be good at a sport. My first reason, that she practices constantly is supported by the
author when he states she decided to do 20 pushups on her finger tips Lupe is not athletic at all yet she
is doing 20 push ups this is a very difficult thing to do even if you have some athletic talent let alone
none. Another piece of evidence that supports this reason is when Lupe squeezed an eraser one
hundred times and when her dad rigged lights in the backyard so she could practice after dark. The
author wrote that her thumb was so sore the next day that she could not practice and those lights let
her practice long into the night giving up valuable sleep to practice. She must be Determined to win
sports. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

smile or a fist pump but not a scream. This shows she was excited to win this. And she just flat out

Management roles are different in each organization depending on the size of the organization. The
following paper will discuss the management roles in a business with less than 50 employees and a
business with more than 500 employees. A brief overview of each organization will be given along
with a description of the hierarchical organization of each. Why or why not the hierarchical
organization of each business works or not will also be discussed and the IT function of each business.

The employee turnover ratio is less and overall work is at a more manageable level. The IT function of
a 7 eleven store would consist of connection of hardware and software, networking, and maintenance.
A business with more than 500 employees poses more of a challenge to be successful and profitable.
The business I chose with more than 500 employees is Wal Mart. Wal Mart stores are located all over
the United States and is a retail store that specializes in everything from groceries to new car tires. The
hierarchical organization of Wal Mart stores from top down on a store level would be: Store Manager,
Assistant Managers, Department Managers, Team Leader, and Store associate. (Walmart Corporate,
2011). The hierarchical organization for Wal Mart does not work in my opinion, because of the high
turnover rate of employees working for this organization. I previously was employed by Wal Mart and
lasted three years. In those three years it was almost like a revolving door of employees getting hired
and fired by the company, management included. Although Wal Mart is one of the most successful
retail store chains in the world, in order to climb the corporate ladder and maintain is a very hard job
to do. The IT function for Wal Mart is a very tedious one including networking, technical support,
installation of hardware and software, training, and maintenance of web sites. With stores all over the

Symbolism In The Scarlet Ibis, By James Hurst
When you see a storm, a tree, or the color red how does it make you feel? The Scarlet Ibis, written by
James Hurst, is about a brothers bond and his pride that pushes his brother until death. The narrator s
brother, Doodle, has a heart condition which makes him physically delayed. The narrator doesn t want
a disabled brother so he nicknames him Doodle because you can t expect much from a disabled person
in 1918. He was also ashamed that he had a brother that couldn t walk, therefore he decided to teach
him even though the doctor said he shouldn t do anything to push his heart. A bird called a scarlet ibis
plays an important part that develops symbolism in the story. The scarlet ibis and Doodle have many
things in common that brings the story together.
Both Doodle and the Scarlet Ibis died during a storm near a grand tree which symbolises danger and
sadness while the tree shows life. In addition the color red is an important warning sign throughout the
story. According to the story, It s a scarlet ibis, he said, pointing to a picture. It lives in the tropics
South America to Florida. A storm must have brought it here (Hurst l. 311 313). The scarlet ibis was in
danger and pushed out of its natural habitat due to the storm. The bird was most likely physically
exhausted and this led to its death. He also states, Sadly, we all looked back at the bird. A scarlet ibis!
How many miles it had traveled to die like this, in our yard, beneath the bleeding tree (Hurst l. 314
315).

Analysis Of Alexander Pope s The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment is defined as a period, popularly confined to the eighteenth century, wherein
scientific knowledge and method proliferated under the belief that all knowledge is achievable by
man. Opening the gateway to modern philosophy, The Enlightenment aimed to explore the nature of
human existence, being dubbed as an age of reason. Reason is defined as man s judgement that is, as
Creighton explains, held in mind by one who would be freed from the bondage of the emotions and
must, therefore, differentiate his own reason from the hinderance that is feeling , abandoning all sense
of morality gained through religion and other environmental aspects. Creighton suggests the
excellence of reason is supposed to consist in its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Rasselas, however, Johnson highlights the brutality of man through the kidnapping of Pekuah
wherein she witnesses the immorality of slavery on her journey for happiness, highlighting how the
corruption of man lies beyond the safe haven of Happy Valley. The valley itself is comparable to the
Garden of Eden with its evils extracted and excluded. However, the connotations of a valley present it
as claustrophobic and locked in, exacerbated by Rasselas initial futile attempts to escape. This
suggests that while corruption lies beyond the valley, Johnson implies that the nature of man is to
reach beyond our own limits regardless of current position, supported by the Original Sin wherein
Adam and Eve were cast out of the garden in the pursuit of the tree of knowledge. Whilst the paradise
of the Happy Valley supplies all manners of pleasure Rasselas uses his reason to determine that there
must be more to his purpose, comparing the needs of man to that of animals and how they waste their
lives in tuning one unvaried series of sounds 3 and concludes that man has surely some latent sense
for which this place affords no gratification. Rasselas therefore separates all he has been raised to
believe in order to explore his own purpose the very definition of reason. Pope can be seen to do the
same when describing the lamb [...] had he not reason, would he skip or play? distinguishing the
purpose of the primal animals from that of man. Pope s reason is also

  • 3. Creation Stories of Babylon, Egypt, and Genesis Essay Creation myths of Babylon, Egypt, and Genesis There are many similarities in the Babylonian, Egyptian, and Genesis stories. In all the stories one god creates man and explains how all things on earth come to being. They also set up their calendars and show examples of evil within each story to set up moral rules for man to live by. How do these elements compare between each of these stories? In the Babylonian myth the God Marduk creates man from the blood of another god Kingu. Blood will I compose, bring a skeleton into being, Produce a lowly, primitive creature, Man shall be his name. In Egyptian myth the God Rae creates man and takes this form. In the Genesis story there is only one God, he creates man in the image of himself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After cutting the body of Tiamat in two, he made the Earth having the sun and moon come in and out of her ribs. Her head he made a mountain and out of her eyes flowed the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Then he disposed her eleven monster serpents, which include a snake, and made them into the signs of the Zodiac. In the Egyptian story Rae names things and they come into being and creates man last. He then takes the form of a man and becomes Pharaoh or the God King. Similarly, in Genesis, God creates the Earth from a formless void into geophysical features, as we know it. Then he creates all the plants and animals and last creates man, then on the seventh day he rested. In having God take seven days to make everything it sets up a weekly calendar, where as on the seventh day everyone rests. The one difference in the stories is that he let man name and have dominion over all things he created. This shows how all things came into being in all three stories and even sets up the political environment of the Babylonian and Egyptian cultures. There are other parallels in the Babylonian and Genesis stories not told here for example; in the Babylonian story one of the first Gods to appear is Lahmu, meaning Mud. In the Genesis story, the first man called Adam, also meaning Mud. You can also see the relationship in their calendars ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Disco Daze Sidney Hook said, Everyone who remembers his own education remembers teachers, not methods and techniques. The teacher is the heart of the educational system. Mr. Fitzpatrick an experienced teacher and Mr. Meyer a brand new teacher were both influenced by their teachers to help them realize their passion to teach. Mr. Fitzpatrick was my U.S. History teacher my freshman year of high school and I remembered when he taught anyone could tell how much he loved history and how every year he brings joy to so many students by hosting Disco Daze. Disco Daze allows anyone who participates to go back in time for a little while and truly experience what it was like living in the 70s. It was a truly memorable experience as a student and I still look forward to it as a senior. Mr. Meyer reaches out to students through his coaching. Many athletes look up to him and every time they are around him they are smiling and laughing. It is his first year teaching and he already has students who look up to him as a role model. Comparing the years of experience they have can show the similarities and differences between how they talk about their teaching styles, their inspiration that made them decide to be a teacher, and the memorable experiences they have had as a teacher. • 6. Islm Curve Understanding Equilibrium in the IS/LM Model 1995 version Prof. Humberto Barreto1 Introduction: This brief work is designed to provide additional ammunition for the student in the ongoing war against IS/LM confusion and ignorance. The author has claimed in his Notes on Macroeconomic Theory (1995) that, There should be no mystery or uncertainty surrounding the IS/LM analysis at this point. IS/LM curves are simply a short cut to finding the equilibrium values for income and interest rate. There are two equations and two unknownsÑwhat simpler strategy than to put them on one graph could be devised? (p. 52) The author still worries, however, that the student is memorizing the equilibrium condition, IS=LM generates Ye, without really ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The student should see that the existing values of i and Y will have a tendency to change. The interest rate will fall because there is a shortage of bonds and as the price of bonds rises to drive the bond market to equilibrium, the interest rate will fall. The equilibrium interest rate, of course, will be found at the intersection of the Ms and Md schedules. Output will increase because a falling interest rate will trigger higher investment expenditures by firms. The increased I will increase AD and, therefore, Ye will increase. But then the higher income will shift money demand up, which will increase the equilibrium interest rate, and the same chain will be triggered leading to a decrease in the equilibrium level of output. The student undoubtedly knows that, eventually, after running through a series of converging loops, the system will settle into a mutually compatible, or general equilibrium, combination of i and Y. If you think the iteration process is a messy and cumbersome means of calculating the general equilibrium, or final, resting place of i and Y, you should applaud the use of the IS/LM graph. In one quick graph, we can immediately and easily see the system s general equilibrium solution. From our initial i0, Y0 combination, the IS/LM graph allows us to instantly see the final solution and to predict a decrease in interest rates and increase in output. However, a drawback is that it does not show how or why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Impact Of Protests And Social Movements In The Civil... Will protests and social movements be what they are today if media wasn t such an influence? Social movements are groups of individuals that focus on a certain situation that has specific political or social issues, that they wanted to change ( McLeod, 2011). Social movements use the media to express concerns and provide evidence to communicate their points of concern and interest. Various blogs such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are primary sources that organizations use to advertise and introduce the movements and protests. Protest are what the social movements do to make a statement to express their disapproval of the situation ( McLeod, 2011). Protesting is a form of expressing one s opinions and concerns about issues that happen in their society. Dr. King often used the media through his protesting for civil rights during his marches for accurate context. One of his famously recorded protest were the March on Washington For Jobs and Freedom where he delivered his well known speech I Have a Dream this successfully removed the barriers from the states restrictions. Media has a great impact on protesting ever since the Civil Rights Movement (1954 1968) to the Gay Marriage Rights (2015). Media coverage concerning protesting allowed the country to become aware of these events regarding certain movements. Thus media is necessary for protesting and social movements in our society. The prison is run by Warden Norton who is a corrupt leader. When Andy first arrives at the prison he is very timid and shy. • 11. Alice In Wonderland Analysis Marriage has not always been about love. All throughout history, women were uprooted from their normal lives and forced into loveless relationships as ways to provide their family money or power. This is the starting for Disney s Alice in Wonderland. Alice is a young woman who is proposed by Hamish, the son of Lord Ascot, per her mother s request. After running away from the proposal, Alice falls down a rabbit hole into Underland where she meets some peculiar characters. Told that she must kill the Jabberwocky as it has been foretold, Alice runs from her destiny only to realize that she must do something to protect her friends and the place she dreamed of so long ago. After killing the Jabberwocky, Alice returns to her to reject Hamish and start working for his father and travels the world. Alice is using her dream to solve her marriage problem so her subconscious is using characters that represents people or her inner conscious in the real world. A look at the make up of the groups involved, the moral code, the protagonist, the antagonist, the use of supernatural elements and the knightly quest involved in each book shows how alike they are but yet different. The salt bed is subsequently blasted, crushed, and broken into smaller pieces which are brought to the surface for processing and finessing. The mining of salt beds results in rock salt which is used primarily as a highway de icer (Kostick 2004). Alternatively, mechanical evaporation occurs through the vacuum pan process. As described in the article introduced above by Kostick (2004), this energy conserving process begins with a salt saturated brine which is brought to a boil, rectangular pans with steam heated immersion coils are used to facilitate the evaporation process (Kostick, 2004). Once the evaporation occurs, rotating rakes collect the salt and the extracted product is laid out to dry. The mechanical evaporation of salt saturated solution results in flake shaped salt, often used for cheeses, butter, and baked goods as described in Kostick (2004). In the same article, written by Kostick (2004), the author states that the extraction of sea salt requires an entirely unique process called solar evaporation. Halite isn t the only mineral present in sea water, because of this, each mineral must be separated from the water in order to extract the salt. First, seawater is collected distributed in ponds that function to concentrate and ultimately evaporate the minerals within the water. From this the czars Alexander III and Nicholas II both lead their propel to social unrest. Alexander III came into power in 1881 from his father Alexander II. He used very harsh measures. He did this to try and wipe out revolutionaries. For example, Alexander III used strict private codes on public published documents even private letters, sort of like spying. His leadership was already weak but that didn t stop him. The people were so angry with him and his autocratic policies that they marched to his Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. Examples Of The Ultimatum In A Lesson Before Dying The Ultimatum When thinking of losing dignity, the first thing that might come to mind is getting caught screeching to a catchy song in your bedroom or bragging about getting a prize for an award but then ending up getting nothing. These things seem trivial compared to the stakes of losing your dignity in the novel A Lesson Before Dying written by Ernest Gaines. Throughout the novel, it emphasizes the fact that the ultimatum of making small changes and differences will positively affect someone s dignity. In the novel A Lesson Before Dying, dignity is something that every character in the book doesn t want to lose. This applies accordingly to Jefferson, a character who is falsely accused of murder and is given the death sentence. In the court, his lawyer publicly shamed him and called him an animal and a fool , and when accidentally calling Jefferson a man, he profusely apologized as if it were a sin. Taylor s view of motivation applies to people who tend to work within narrow job confines such as on a production line. These are people who can be paid according to the amount of work that they do or units they produce. This is known as piece work . For many people pay is still a prime motivator. For example, within Kellogg s many employees are motivated by cash alternatives which include the opportunity to buy and sell their holiday days. Taylor s theory breaks down jobs into components or specialist tasks through the division of labour. This especially applies to production processes within large companies like Kellogg s. These rewards can help to increase productivity and profitability. The danger with this is that individuals are simply focused on output to get rewards so quality might suffer as a result of employees rushing to do the job. Scientific management is not a process that allows development of people. It limits their ability to take ownership of what they do. Kellogg s staff are encouraged to be creative and use their imagination to contribute towards change. Consequently, Taylor s view of monetary reward for output is not appropriate for the motivation required for this type of workplace. Maslow Maslow s theory relates motivation to a hierarchy of needs. At the bottom are essential physiological needs such as air, food, shelter and clothing. As individuals satisfy one level of need, their motivations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reason is defined as man s judgement that is, as Creighton explains, held in mind by one who would be freed from the bondage of the emotions and must, therefore, differentiate his own reason from the hinderance that is feeling , abandoning all sense of morality gained through religion and other environmental aspects. In Rasselas, however, Johnson highlights the brutality of man through the kidnapping of Pekuah wherein she witnesses the immorality of slavery on her journey for happiness, highlighting how the corruption of man lies beyond the safe haven of Happy Valley. The valley itself is comparable to the Garden of Eden with its evils extracted and excluded. However, the connotations of a valley present it as claustrophobic and locked in, exacerbated by Rasselas initial futile attempts to escape. This suggests that while corruption lies beyond the valley, Johnson implies that the nature of man is to reach beyond our own limits regardless of current position, supported by the Original Sin wherein Adam and Eve were cast out of the garden in the pursuit of the tree of knowledge. Whilst the paradise of the Happy Valley supplies all manners of pleasure Rasselas uses his reason to determine that there must be more to his purpose, comparing the needs of man to that of animals and how they waste their lives in tuning one unvaried series of sounds 3 and concludes that man has surely some latent sense for which this place affords no gratification. Rasselas therefore separates all he has been raised to believe in order to explore his own purpose the very definition of reason.
