Character Analysis Of Arthur Conan Doyle
Title
Arthur Conan Doyle, portrays Sherlock to be that of an intellectual and ingenious detective. Sherlock
presents those traits in copious ways while solving his endless amounts of crimes. However, the main
quality Sherlock repetitively uses to help solve his mysterious, is his manipulative personality.
Sherlock Holmes uses manipulation to influence his accomplices or in most cases his sidekick
Watson, to intimidate or trick his suspects into confession, and to remain control of his situations or
further plans. In both (Doyle, Arthur Conan. The Adventure of the Dying Detective. US: Collier s
Magazine (1913), and (Doyle, Arthur Conan. The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle. UK: The Strand
Magazine (1892), the use of Sherlock s manipulative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many times Doyle lets Sherlock come off as manipulative to really influence his friends so that he is
able to make his case. He uses his manipulation to his advantage so that there will be little to no
complications when solving his crimes.
Manipulation is a huge part of Sherlock s personality, and in every way he tries to use it to his as well
as his mystery solving advantage. Doyle enforces Sherlock to question his suspects so that they will
confess to their wrong doings. Sherlock uses his manipulative skills to intimidate and trick his
suspects into giving information without them even realizing they are doing so. Sherlock is incredibly
clever, and quite witty when being manipulative, he does it so nonchalantly that his suspects really
think it s to their advantage, an example of this is when Sherlock is arguing with the goose merchant,
It s merely taking your money, for I know that I am right. But I ll have a sovereign on with you, just to
teach you not to be obstinate. (Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle, 54). Sherlock is so clever to accuse
his suspect of something, so that they will give the evidence he is looking for. He s determined to
continue his case with all leading evidence, and so therefore he uses his manipulative manner to
achieve just that.
He s able to solve many of his cases without any suspicion due to his

The Issue Of Team Self Management Essay
Literature Review: Self Management
The issue of team self management is one of great interest in today s complex environment, it seems
many businesses are restructuring themselves in an attempt to modernize and stay relevant. Some of
the most successful organizations in modern times were nothing more than an idea a decade or two
ago, with names like Facebook and Zappos. Part of this successful startup culture includes
decentralization of decision making, often leading to a more flexible and employee friendly work
environment. More traditional organizations are taking note of this trend and studying it or
implementing it themselves.
Other common terms for the idea of organizational decentralization include: team self management,
self management, shared control, distributed leadership (Lambe, Webb, Ishida, 2009) and holacracy
(Robertson, 2007). While these terms may have small differences they all describe the common theme
of distributing power across organizations. Several concepts help to explain why decentralization and
the encouragement of teamwork throughout an organization are often superior to traditional
management structure.
Many types of studies have been conducted and share the common outcome that performance is often
better within the workplace when outcomes are judged as a team rather than specific individuals.
Additional studies have been shown than teams are more likely to come up with effective and
necessary management tactics than appointing a

The Contribution of Patanjali s Yoga Suta
The Contribution of Patanjali s Yoga Suta
When we speak of Yoga the first thing in mind is the posture, the breaths, the exercise. Yoga is
commonly associated with flexibility and its complex postures. It is also associated with breathing
excercises and meditation. But this is not always the case. There is more to Yoga than just the
exercise. For those who studied Indian Philosophy, Hinduism or Indian culture and history, Yoga is not
just all those things; it is something more. So what is Yoga to begin with? The word yoga literally
means union . Union in the sense of spiritual union of the individual soul with the Universal Soul.
Yoga is a Hindu theistic philosophy teaching the suppression of all activity of body, mind, and will in

This is abstention from avarice. Aparigraha is neutralizing the desire to acquire and hoard wealth. This
does not only apply on money but also to everything, material and immaterial things. Aparigraha also
means to take only what is necessary, and not to take advantage of a situation or act greedy.
Following the Yama is Niyama. Unlike Yama, Niyama is the inner discipline and responsibilities.
Niyama is considered as the duties to the self; culturing oneself. Like yama, there are also five
Niyamas. The first of these Niyamas is shauca or purity. Purity or cleanliness is to be observed both in
the outer (physical) and inner (spiritual) aspects. In the outer and physical aspect, one has to take care
of his/her body and environment. Purity of the body entails one to take proper care of one s health and
condition. Eating healthy foods and not abusing the body are examples of proper care for the body. A
clean surrounding also contributes to the purity of the body. The other aspect is the inner and spiritual
aspect. Shauca in this aspect requires one to acquire pure thoughts and words. Next is santosha or
contentment. This means the acceptance of things as they are. Throughout life s troubles, one should
find happiness and contentment. This brings peace in one s life. And so, one needs to understand that
he/she cannot have the best of both worlds. One should be happy with what he/she has, rather than
being unhappy about what he/she

Cost Of Perfectionism Essay
Perfection is often treated as a trait that is unattainable, yet we subconsciously strive to be perfect in
many aspects of our lives. Working to be successful and high achieving isn t necessarily a bad thing,
but it can grow out of hand when perfection is the only thought on our mind. Because of this, it is
necessary to find the right balance when dealing with perfectionism. When it comes to achieving our
goals, some amount of perfectionism can be very helpful. Thinking like a perfectionist boosts your
motivation and spikes the amount of effort put into every activity. The combination of intense
motivation and consistent high quality work can make it quite easy to achieve any goals you may set,
both in the short term and long term. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Happiness is the key to perfection. Once you are truly happy with who you are and the life you have,
that is when I think people have reached perfection. It s a struggle, I won t lie about that, and it
involves all three aspects discussed here. Achieving goals, finding happiness, and maintaining self
worth all go hand in hand with each other, and it is difficult to balance one aspect with perfectionism
without having the other two. They are all linked, and are all very important. But when it comes down
to it, which will last a lifetime: the 100% on the paper you wrote as a teenager, or the way you can
wholeheartedly love and accept yourself? Whether that means I get straight A s or not, all that matters
is that I feel good about what I m doing, and feel confident in every decision ( My Life in a Nutshell

kindness and perfection over happiness. But for once we should look at the things that truly matter in
life and how we can better those things for

Cut In Legal Aid Essay
Cuts in legal aid are causing problems for the ordinary people and leaving them without vital support
because there has been a reform in legal aid, which are the cuts. In this assignment, I will discuss the
two different side of impact of legal aid cuts on the people and how this act has impacted legal aid.
Legal Aid and Advice Act 1949 was the beginning of legal aid, this is the access to assistance to fight
for justice for the ones that cannot afford legal representation and in need of protection. The state pays
the legal professions which are the solicitors and barristers to ensure the right to a fair trial and
equality before the law is not breached. In 2012, legal aid cut was formed where the government
decided that there should be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which suggested negative outcomes because they are saving a huge amount but effecting more
people. For example, an online article the Royal Gazette it states that Mentally ill Let down by the
justice system , it s about mentally ill man is not being granted legal aid because he does not fall into a
category that will grant legal aid for him. This is wrong as injustice is happening to him and his
human right is being breach, which then proves that the government is not protecting the citizens and
not carrying out the right responsibilities. Also, present why the legal aid shouldn t have cuts as now it
s become a barrier to justice. Another, problem that legal aid cuts have raised is parents fighting for
custody, if a legal aid service cannot represent one side, it states how they will struggle without the
help of legal aid and then won t get the custody and which will go to the other parent that s probably
not fit to take custody for the kids. For instance, a mother that is low on income, she won t be able to
afford her own representation and she won t receive legal aid as she s not mentally unstable, this will
leave her for litigation, but the fact she won t win because she cannot procedure sufficient evidence
against her opposite

An Analysis Of The Speaker s Breakdown
In the beginning of the story, the speaker has an appropriate response to the ordeal of being shy and
bashful, most girls would be in this situation. Stating that, ... I dared not smile, And lowered my head
toward a dark corner.. (Li Po 8 9). Back then, the girls of the family were to be married off to someone
of the parents choosing without consent from the daughter. The husband would be usually older than
her and would have some sort of occupation. So for the author not being familiar with the man and for
being shy of him is understandable. At the age of 15, this state of being shy begins to drift away. The
speaker states, But at age of fifteen I straightened my brow and laughed (Li Po 11). The tension

Neruda Figurative Language
In Neruda s poem Tonight I can write the saddest lines he used, Alliteration, Simile, and repetition to
convey his feeling of lost love and sadness. Poetry For Students describes the relationship of the
poems setting to its mood explaining that, He begins writing at night, time when darkness will match
his mood.(3) The critics from poetry for students agrees with this analysis, claiming, We later learn
that his overwhelming sorrow over a lost lover has prevented him from writing about their relationship
and its demise.(3) An instance where Neruda uses alliteration is when in the he poem he wrote and the
blue stars shiver in the distance (3). The alliteration of the S sound makes the conveys the meaning

This simile that Neruda included connects to the meaning of the verse as in the poem affects the reader
emotionally like dew in the morning on the pasture. The comparison connects because it is inevitable
for dew to be on the pasture in the morning just like it is inevitable for the poem to connect to the
reader emotionally. Poetry For Students Found a metaphor that compares the sky to the relationship
which agrees with my meaning of the poem, One thing that Poetry for students picked up on and I
didn t is when on, the eighth line, the speaker remembers kissing his love again and again under the
endless sky a sky as endless as, he had hoped, their relationship would be.(4) Neruda also uses
repetition of the words tonight I can write the saddest lines (1, 5, 11). The repetition creates a rhythm
that he is talking about something sad. The repetition of these words also creates the image that
literally he is writing the poem at night in his desk and he is writing this with his

Synthetic Psychoactive Drugs Commonly Called...
Amphetamines, a group of synthetic psychoactive drugs commonly called psychostimulants or central
nervous system stimulants, were first synthesized by L. Edeleano, a German chemist in 1887
(Amphetamine). This group of drugs includes amphetamine, dextroamphetamine and
methamphetamine. The racemic α methylphenethylamine, a version of amphetamine, was later
discovered in 1910 by Dale and Barger (Heal). This version was synthesized in 1927 by G. A. Alles
while trying to find an alternative for ephedrine. In 1935, Benzedrine was released onto the market as
a treatment for narcolepsy, mild depression, and a multitude of other disorders. Two years later in
1937, the drug, now known by the generic name of Amphetamine, became available for ... Show more

Each airman would simply need the oversight of their commander and flight surgeon, as well has
having routine physical examinations, explicit guidance for the circumstances under which the drugs
could be used, and a signed consent form (Caldwell). In January of 1984 the use of amphetamines and
go pills were turned into Air Fore Regulation 161 33 (Jedick).
Amphetamine, also known by the IUPAC name of 1 phenylopropan 2 amine, contains the functional
groups methyl (CH3) and amine (NH2). These functional groups cause the drug to release the
neurotransmitters dopamine, serotine and norepinephrine from the nerve endings in the brain
(Iversen). This happens because of the similar structure to dopamine. Once the neurotransmitters have
been released, the amphetamines cause a buildup of them around the synapse and plug the transporter
molecules preventing their re uptake. This causes a flooding of extra neurotransmitters in the brain.
Since amphetamines are so similar in structure to dopamine, the drug is able to enter the terminal
button through the neural membrane as well as through the dopamine transporters. The amphetamine
molecules then trick the mind into believing that it is dopamine being taken up. Once in the
presynaptic neuron, the amphetamines, disguised as dopamine, push the extra dopamine into the
synaptic gap, and the transporters are forced to work in reverse, producing even

Suggest reasons for trends in the use of technology in the...
From looking at figure 5 a varity of trends can be shown. When focusing on internet users a very slow
rate of growth can be shown, this may be due to the small amount of countries that are able to get
access to the World Wide Web due to connections. Over a 10 year period from 1998 to 2008 there can
be seen a major rise in the use of the internet. As the internet is a relatively new device it is clear that
those less developed countries would take time to get hold of it. 1990 was quite early for a developing
country to use the internet but is is clear as the world has become more globalized and developed the
internet usage has shot up. This is due to a technological advance around the world and slowly the

Developing countries find it hard to put the technology into place, but with the help of the developing
countries it is a lot easier.
Mobile phones can be seen to only start taking shape in 1996 but when they are introduced they soar
above any other form of technology. They end up in 20098 to having 60 handsets per 1000 people
which is a huge amount. This is due to the cheap costs that are present and they are affordable to the
people which there low wages. Many companies such as Nokia have seen a mobile phone market
available in developing countries and they cause a lot more people to get hold of them. The
developing countries see how much of a difference they make to life and spread the word and soon a
lot of people are in possession. Unlike landlines there is only one satellite dish that is needed and these
can be place almost any where meaning they don t take up a lot of time and money. The running costs
are low as usually the spare parts may be made in the developing countries and easy ways of keeping
them charged are available such as using the sun. The fact that many people have them makes
business easier which attracts more people to have them making them very popular compared to the
land line. It is the fact that they are very simple and cheap that there are so many being used in the

Pros And Cons Of Violent Role Playing Game Dilemmas
The VIolent Role Playing Game Dilemma
All of us must have seen the Las Vegas shooting news yesterday. A gunman shot down over 50 people
from his hotel room across the street, and injured countless more. When something like this happens,
we can t help but wonder what would make someone do something so awful like that. I don t know
what it is, but I do know the violent role playing games sweeping up our country s youth is not
helping. It is making these kids into aggressive monsters who think killing is fun in games. Teens
should not be allowed to play violent role playing games because there was a mass shooting the same
week as the Grand Theft Auto V release, it is creating new criminals, and it makes them more
aggressive.
These violent role playing games are games kids should not be allowed to play. The game GTA V is an
open world game where players rob cars, torture people, and go to strip clubs. In the week of May
18th 2013, GTA V was released and there was a mass shooting in Washington D.C. that killed dozens
of people, according to Erik Kain. I think there is a definite correlation between these two events. We
are talking about a game that encourages you to shoot and abuse people. Millions of copies of this
game are sold every year. This means millions of people now think its fun to kill people. They think it
s okay to kill. This is not the kind of image we want to be instilling in teens these days. Now, all the
video games are becoming more and more lifelike. Some

At Preston high school, it was like any other day, kids being bullied and drugs being used. This kind of

Compare The Stranger And Crime And Punishment
The research paper critiques the choice of crime presented in The Stranger by Albert Camus and
Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. By focusing on the detachment and solitary meaning
creation of the protagonists of both the novels, the paper discovers similarities and differences in the
existential questions answered by the protagonists through their choice of crime. In an existentialist
viewpoint meaning is constructed by the conscious individual in an attempt to find a rational
explanation for his/her existence. The paper reveals different dimensions of the notions of detachment
and freedom based on the existential outlook of the protagonists. The protagonist s crimes and their
response to the ideas of punishment and repentance which the State and Christianity try to impose
upon them depict a conflict between the individual and the society. Analyzing this conflict the paper
finds that the deviation of the protagonists from serious consideration of prevailing social principles is
a result of their detachment and solitary life. The idea of meaninglessness of existence is analyzed by
examining the crimes of the protagonists and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparison Of Chinatown And The Big Sleep
Comparing ChinaTown and the Big Sleep
ChinaTown, directed by Roman Polanski, is a non traditional hard nosed detective film made in the 70
s. The typical elements of character type are there; J.J. Gittes (a private detective in LA) played by
Jack Nicholson is the central character, sharing the spotlight is Fay Dunaway playing the femme fatale
Evelyn Mulwray. This film breaks all types of norms when compared to the hard nosed detective films
it is modeled after. The film is filled with allusions to the Big Sleep, especially taken from scenes of
Marlowe and Vivian. Chinatown has formal elements indicative that it is going to be in the style of
traditional Film Noir hardboiled detective, until you examine the characters personalities ... Show

This would have never happened to Marlowe. Gattis looked like a fool.
Gettis couldn t get a one liner right if his nose depended on it. Throughout the film Gettis is screwing
up jokes or lines that were meant to be sharp and humorous. In opposition to Gettis, Marlowe is
socially smooth and rather witty. You could almost say Gettis is clumsy and crass. The impression we
are left with about Gettis is normalizing. Gettis loses the stature that comes with a protagonist filled
with bravado. He comes off kind of plain, almost corny, a regular guy.
As a detective Gettis has done very well by himself. He has Venetian blinds in his office, wears a well
tailored white suit and seems to be wealthy from his trade. In contrast, Marlowe from the Big Sleep is
barely getting by with P.I. work. It is implied that he isn t materialistic and it wouldn t out of character
for him to do work
Pro bono. Gettis is a P.I. known mostly for divorce work (catching adultery) and spying on the
unsuspecting. As a protagonist he doesn t come off very ethical. Polanski didn t make a character the
audience would love right off the bat. Supplying Curly with pictures of his wife s adultery in the
opening scene doesn t paint Gettis into a picture of the model for ethics.

Two issues that Trump has hyper focused on are immigration and job creation during his first 100 days
in office. First, I will talk about immigration, which many would say was his main platform for his
election. This was the issue he built his wall campaign on. There are over 11.3 million illegal
immigrants living in the United States. Critics say that this wall that Trump wants to build is
unaffordable and downright unrealistic. From the beginning of his initial bid for president he was
backed by many to build this wall along the 2000 mile US Mexico border. When Trump first became
instated as the president, he pledged a contiguous, physical wall or other similarly secure, contiguous,
and impassable physical barrier. Trump approached the Mexican president, Enrique Peña Nieto that
his country will have to pay for the wall to be built. This didn t go over to well creating some tension
between trump and our neighbor to the south with in his first month of election. Enrique Peña Nieto
wanted nothing to do with paying for the wall since the price tag is so high. With this Ideal to build a

money to sanctuary cities. These cities refuse to deport undocumented immigrants. Also he vowed to
catch and deport the millions of men, women and children who live in this country without
documentation. As of his 100th day in office there has been a recorded decrease in illegal Southwest
border crossings due to his increase in border security. Homeland Security as of March 8 release data

Stereotypes In Slaughterhouse Five
In the novel Slaughterhouse Five , Kurt Vonnegut illustrates the over sexualization and negative
qualities women are associated with. Vonnegut published his novel at the start of the second wave of
feminism where women s rights were finally beginning to get recognition (Napikoski, Feminism in
1969 ). However, the main character in Slaughterhouse Five, Billy Pilgrim, reinforces the idea that all
women match a certain unjust category. Vonnegut has received much praise for his novel
Slaughterhouse Five, however upon further analysis, his portrayal of female characters fit flawed
stereotypes.
Notably, perhaps the most baffling character Billy Pilgrim belittles is his wife Valencia Merble.

Free Trade And Its Effects On Society
Free trade hates certain things. It hates regulations, tariffs, taxes, subsidies for local business, and
cultural customs that interfere with efficient production and trade. This is why international
organizations, governments, and corporations have created free trade zones. These zones are perfect
because they have little or no regulation, environmental or social, tariffs, taxes, or subsidies. Basically,
a free trade zone is a regulation free, haven for factories where pieces of goods can be shipped,
assembled, and shipped back out at the very lowest cost possible. But there is a catch, once the
countries have allowed sweatshops (factories, assembly plants) to take hold, a chain reaction is set in
motion. The low wages that sweatshops pay create three things in poverty, which creates hunger,
disease, and lack of funds for medicine. The hunger and disease can cause more hunger and disease
because the victims of hunger and disease can no longer work to get the money that could fix their
hunger and disease. They just cause more poverty.
The mechanisms of this global stage are complicated and, for the most part, hidden. The players are
more easily named. The World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Bank loan money to poor
countries to help their economies and infrastructures. But they loan at a price: deference. Once the
poor countries are in debt, they must make concessions in their spending like cutting health care. In
this way, free trade takes advantage of poverty.

2016 Presidential Race Picking Up
With the 2016 presidential race picking up, one of the main issues that are being deliberated among

carried interest , the 20% incentive fee charged by private equity firms, as regular income rather than
capital gains. In spite of the failed effort, politicians from both parties are now aggressively pushing to
close the prominent loopholes enjoyed by fund managers widely. Additionally, private equity firms are
being scrutinized for taking investors money regardless of whether or not they allocate the capital into

Under current legislation, managers can avoid paying steep income taxes on the 20% incentive fee in
favor of the significantly lower capital gains taxes, thereby saving hundreds of millions of dollars
annually at the expense of the middle class taxpayer. This is accomplished through for the use of
management fee waivers and carried interest tax loopholes that recognizes the 20% incentive fee
portion as capital gains.
*Note, that ordinary income tax rate maxes out at 39.6% while the capital gain tax rate is only 23.8%.
Bipartisan push for Private Equity Tax Reform Class warfare is a term that is often thrown around by
Republicans to describe any attempt to tax the upper class, and yet Republicans and Democrats alike
have found common ground when it comes to eliminating the carried interest tax break. Recently,
President Barack Obama met with Business Roundtable, an association comprising of the nation s top
CEOs, to argue his case for eliminating the prominent tax loophole. He states that the tax loophole
provides no recognizable economic benefit, but instead is causing the middle class to suffer financially
as a consequence. With the current income disparity levels at record highs, the financial industry has
also become the new target for many 2016 presidential nominees such as Sanders, Clinton, Bush, and

Identity Crisis amongst African Americans
17 November 2014
Abstract
The question of self identity has been commonly argued in field of the African American literature;
with scholars such as Martin R. Delany and W.E.B Du Bois argue about the emphasis on race and
racial consciousness. Together Du Bois and Delaney stress the importance of the color line, or the
racial segregation in the United States, as a critical part of American history; nonetheless they both
had completely dissimilar thoughts on the subject. Du Bois placed more emphasizes on double
consciousness. He was concerned that African Americans put superiority of one part of their heritage
over the other. On the other hand, Delaney argues that the major problem with identity is the
separation and how it was derived from slavery. However, these arguments have not effectively
addressed the issue of defining one s identity. My paper addresses the issue of successfully identifying
what we consider African Americans with special attention to why there was once only Black and
White with no shades of gray in America. Specifically, in my argument, I will be examining the
monolithic labels, e.g. black, placed on people of African descendants, in order to show how history
has failed to correctly identify African Americans. I will discuss self identity and consciousness, and
juxtapose them against race and ethnicity, in order to reveal the previously misunderstood

Embryonic Stem Cell Research And Current Use
Introduction:
The issue at discussion in this report is ESCR (embryonic stem cell research) and current use. This
issue causes controversial concerns because the first isolation of the embryo was in 1998, which is still
very recent and the policies around it are grey areas. Many countries including the United States of
America have removed funding because of issues that have risen due to religious, ethical and legal
formalities. Some of the benefits that ESC (embryonic stem cells) promise are the cure for many
diseases and even the creation of organs between other scientific advances that could save numerous
lives. The benefits that ESC could provide are sometimes questioned to be worth all the ethical issues
that they bring. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process to isolate an embryonic cell demands de inner cell of a blastocyst. A blastocyst can be
described as one of the earlier stages of an embryo, which is reached at about four to five days after
fertilization. In the blastocyst stage, the future embryo is not formed by more than fifty to a 150 cells.
In the blastocyst stage the cell is comprised of an external layer called trophoblast and the inner cell
mass comprised of approximately thirty cells which following normal procedures becomes the embryo
and the trophoblast, the placenta. In the process to cultivate the stem cell, the blastocyst must die as
the inner cell mass is removed. This practice has been legalized since 2002 in Australia but strict
guidelines in regards to licenses as to who is able to perform research and what is permitted in their
research must be met.
Alternative Views and their Explanation:
Dr. James Douglas professor and chair, cell and developmental biology director for Center of
Organogenesis has specialised and dedicated most of his career to research how tissues and organs are
generated in mammals and how cells are instructed to become specialised cells. Similarly, Dr. Eva L.
Feldman professor of neurology in the medical school A. Alfred Taubman Medical Research Institute
and director at ALS clinic has devoted her latest years in the field to conduct innovative research to
generate stem cell technology to treat ALS by injecting stem cells into the spinal cord.

The French Revolution Vs. The American Revolution
The French vs. the American Revolution The French Revolution and The American Revolution are
similar in many that people call them the Twin Wars. We will explore how they are similar by talking
about the role that women played and the documents that emerged from each war. We will also
explore how they are different by talking about the causes for the wars and the goals for each.
Although the causes might seem similar in detail they are actually different. The American Revolution
was started because of the problems with Britain and their incessant need to keep taxing the colonies
even though they broke away. The colonist didn t go to war over the taxes themselves. They were

In the French Revolution the women played a part in a lot of the war,(Women and the Revolution), but
almost every time they were involved it ended with controversy such as the time the women march on
the palace of Versailles. The women were upset that they didn t have bread to feed their families. On
October 4, 1789 the women march toward Versailles and they demanded to see the baker, his wife and
their son. The King promised to meet some of the ladies and give them all the bread in the palace.
Before that happened The National guard came to take the king back to France for fear of his safety.
The Queen who was Marie Antoinette barely escaped. The king compromised and said he would
speak to the women on the balcony of the palace. He said My friends, I will return to Paris with my
wife and children. This was the last time that the king would see Versailles (Women s March). In the
American Revolution women took an active role in the war. Most women in this time were wives and
daughters of soldiers. The women who had a constant presence in the camps were known as camp

owned that she pretended to be a man in order to go into the army.(Women during the American

French Revolutions. From this research I have concluded that I think these two wars are equal in
differences and similarities that they aren t the same or different they are just like twins. When I say
twins I mean, they are the same in some ways but they are different too. So the statement the Twin

The Theory of Evolusion Revised Essay
There is a monkey in your family tree. Whether that is fact or theory, and the difference, Stephen Jay
Gould explains in, Evolution as Fact and Theory , which appeared in the May 1981 issue of Discover
Magazine. Mr. Gould was described by the New York Times as, one of the most influential
evolutionary biologists of the 20th century (Yoon). He wants to show how the creationist s have built
their argument against evolution on sand, and the evolutionist s argument built on solid rock, as any

In contrast, Gould logically lays out three facts to buttress his evolution stance. He states, ... we have

(440). The other two: the imperfection of nature, and transitions in the fossil record, ...rest upon
inference , which is then explained to the reader (441). Up to this point, Gould s argument follows the
path of logic, reason, and objectivity. However, as he picks apart the creationists argument, he ratchets
up his emotions a notch or two. He readily confesses, If I should sound sharp or bitter, indeed I am for
I have become a major target of these practices (442). Justified or not, he seems to take personally,

with creationists, the impression is of someone who is tired. Tired of fighting a

How to Control Huntington’s Disease
Currently, there is no cure for Huntington s disease (HD) and only limited numbers of treatments are
effective in controlling HD symptoms. HD a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by
motor disturbances, psychiatric dysfunctions, and cognitive disabilities. HD is inherited in an
autosomal dominant manner, means that the inheritance of a single copy of the mutant huntingtin
allele containing an expanded CAG repeat region in exon 1 ( 36 CAG repeat) causes the disease.
Translation of the mutant allele mRNA yields the mutant huntingtin protein (mHtt) containing an
expanded polyglutamine region near the amino terminus, which favor protein cleavage and
accumulation of the N terminus in the nucleus. N terminal huntingtin affects transcription of subsets
of genes. Early in HD progression, levels of the cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) and dopamine
receptor type 2 (D2) are reduced in the medium spiny neurons of the striatum. CB1 receptor is able to
activate several signaling pathways through the activation of different G proteins as well as arrestin 2.
Furthermore, compelling anatomical and physiological evidence suggests a strong interaction between
the CB1 and D2 receptors. Given this interaction between CB1 and D2 receptors, drugs that block or
activate either receptor will influence convergent signaling pathways. Typical and atypical
antipsychotics, including haloperidol and olanzapine, respectively, are commonly prescribed to HD
patients to control chorea and

Reaction Paper On Spinoza
The question of emotions and how they relate to rational thought is certainly not new. There are
several authors who have already occupied themselves with the interplay of emotions and rationality
in the decision making process (Lowenstein Lerner, 2003; Damasio, 1988 1994 just to name a few). In
order to address this question, I decided to turn to one of the greatest thinkers of Western thought:
Spinoza. Re reading the 4th part of his magnum opos Ethics, which carries the title Of Human
Bondage or the strength of emotions , I could not but think of some central aspects of Kahneman
Tversky s work on heuristics, bias, framing effects and prospect theory. Given the chronological gap
between the works of Kahneman Tversky and Spinoza s Ethics I was impressed by the actuality
inherent to Spinoza s thought. In this paper, I m going to argue that Spinoza s 4th part of Ethics

In Ethics, which overall consists of five main parts and is inspired by the strict science of geometrics,
he develops a system of thought which addresses the relationship of god and nature, body and mind
and the conditions and possibilities of a good human life. Thereby, he opposes Descartes mind body
dualism and develops his own line of thought contrasting Descartes dualism with his own concept of
parallelism of body and mind. While rational thought as the attribute of human mind has been
considered for a long time as being superior to emotions, Spinoza argued that both the mind and the
body were parallel attributes (call them manifestations) of the very same substance (Damasio, 1988:
12). As much as his take on the role of emotions is determined by his other main concepts of
parallelism and conatus, the 4th part of his Ethics is considered to be key to be able to understand the
other parts of Ethics (Liessmann, 2003:

The Five-High Cost Of The International Space Shuttle
One of the biggest reasons to change where we are exploring is how expensive space travel is. The
regular cost is about $450 million. That is a lot of money and here is the catch, that cost is only for one
launch and there have been about 130 launches. So if you do the math, we have spent about $58.5
billion on space travel. That is the total cost of all 130 space shuttle launches, but there have also been
five strong fleet launches. To build a strong fleet shuttle it takes around $1.7 billion (Thompson 1).
Those costs, though, are only covering all of the shuttles. To build and maintain over the years, the
International Space Station has cost a total of about $142 billion. If you think that is already a lot of
money, that amount isn t even adding the missions to get there and back. All of these costs are very
big for the fact that most of it is metal and thrusters that get disconnected from the ship and left in
space (Thompson 1).

shuttle, the dust can become airborne and when you breathe it in it will scratch your airways and lungs
(ADMIN). The biggest and last danger of space travel is the launch and reentry. For a shuttle to get
past the atmosphere in the launch it must travel at 7 miles per second. If it doesn t it will explode just

Finding the time and resources to keep Twitter updated can often be a challenge for the average
business owner. So I m always on the look out for tools that can help with the process and take away a
lot of the grunt work.
One way to do this is through the use of RSS or content feeds. RSS stands for Really Simple
Syndication . An RSS feed is basically a file containing syndicated content that s readable by software.
For example, most blogs have RSS feeds automatically built in (yourblog.com/feed if it s on
WordPress), along with a lot of other sites such as YouTube and SlideShare.
This can make the use of RSS very useful in keeping your Twitter account updated with relevant
content, while leaving you free to make other updates, engage with your followers, and so on.
So how can you use RSS feeds to help power your Twitter account? Here are 3 different ways to
approach it.
1. IFTTT
IFTTT stands for If This Then That , and allows you to set up automation tasks consisting of triggers
that automate certain follow on actions.

Of Mice and Men-Friendship
Friendship Of Mice and Men Friendship is something that everyone needs at any time. Friendship
keeps us closely interacted with our friends, it keeps you popular, keeps you away from loneliness.
Friendship is an essential part of life to everyone. To me, I interact with my friends closely everyday,
we chat, we play around, and we work together on homework. For teenagers like us, we like to
interact with friends, with people at our age. Without friends, we won t be able to do anything. We
take care of each other, we tell each other everything, and sometimes they are more important than our
parents. Without a friend, every single one of us is by ourselves, no one cares about us, at the
meantime, we don t care about anyone. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ain t nobody goin to suppose no hurt to George. (Steinbeck, p72). As a contrast with George and
Lennie, Crooks, a black man never wants anyone to go into his room. He sets an invisible wall
between him and the rest of the world. He s like a prisoner, in a world with one person, himself. He
never talks to anyone; he never wants anyone to talk to him. He thinks that he s a black, no one would
want to talk to him. So he had his own room, and wanted everyone to keep away from his little room.
Although he seems like he doesn t want anyone to talk to him, but still at the deepest place of his
heart, he wants to talk to someone, he wants a friend. He cried in front of Lennie, he told all these
things in his heart that no one knows to Lennie, he knows Lennie won t understand so he won t go out
and blab about it. He just wants to relieve his feelings. Crooks wants a friend as well, everyone needs
a friend: a guy goes nuts if he ain t got nobody. Don t make no difference who the guy is, long he s
with you. I tell ya. (Steinbeck, p72). Everyone needs a friend, even the people who say they don t. To
George and Lennie, having a friend with them is really lucky, but their luckiness didn t last very long.
At the end of the book, George shot Lennie at the back of his head. That was one of George s two
choices: let Curley kill Lennie or kill Lennie by himself. Like a father, George thought it s his
responsibility to kill Lennie to payback the life of

The religious practices which are still followed in the country, makes one feel that they are living in
the primitive world. The story of Roop Kanwar from Deorala , Rajasthan, is a violent and forceful
murder, Which was fabricated as Sati by the villagers. When speaking about Sati , Dalrymple
enumerates: Sati is still deeply engrained in the culture of many parts of rural India, and nowhere
more so than in Rajasthan, which is now the centre of the cult of the goddess Sati Mata.... a memorial
put up to mark the place where a living, breathing widow chose to climb atop her husband s burning
funeral pyre, sacrificing herself to ensure her husband s successful rebirth. In this way she is believed
to join her soul with the goddess Sati Mata and to bring good luck to her family and her village for
seven generations (122).
The pathetic death/ Sati of Roop Kanwar shows that still in India, age old customs are followed with
awe and fear. How people try to hide the murder of Roop Kanwar in the name of Sati shows there are
places in India where laws are of no use. Explaining this Dalrymple

Analysis Of Eliezer Wiesel s Night
Eliezer Wiesel is a Nobel Prize winning writer, teacher and activist known for the novel Night, in
which he recounts his experiences surviving the Holocaust. After he was freed from Buchenwald in
1945, Wiesel went on to study at the Sorbonne in France from 1948 1951 and took up journalism,
writing for the French and the Israeli publications. His friend, Francois Mauriac encouraged him to
write about his experiences in the camps; Wiesel then published in Yiddish the memoir And the World
Would Remain Silent in 1956. The book was shortened and published in France as La Nuit, and as
Night for English readers in 1960. The memoir became an acclaimed bestseller, translated up to 30
languages, and is considered an influential work on the terrors of the Holocaust. Night was later
followed by two novels, Dawn (1961) and Day (1962), to form a trilogy that looked closely at
humankind s destructive treatment of one another. Teaching was one of Wiesel s passion, having been
appointed in the mid 1970s as Boston University s Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities. He
also taught Judaic studies at the City University of New York, and served as a visiting scholar at Yale.
Wiesel went on to write dozens of books, including Town of Luck (1962), The Gates of the Forest
(1966), and such nonfiction works as Souls on Fire: Portraits and Legends of Hasidic Masters (1982)
and the memoir All Rivers Run to the Sea (1995). Wiesel has also become a respected international
activist, speaker and

Analysis Of New Orleans After The Deluge
The Juxtaposition Graphic novels have the ability to portray multiple perspectives and can cleverly
represent as many groups an author believes is needed. What becomes the decision of the author is
which perspective deems more important or more fascinating. Depending on which the author decides
to portray, there tends to be different effects on the readers. Neufeld uses Scott s Mccloud s ideas from
Understanding Comics, such as adding detail to a character to differentiate them from the reader in
order to induce certain emotions. The perspective taken from the primary source may receive more
empathy or distaste depending on who the author chooses to represent. Through detailing certain
character, this focus is made clear to be on the victims. However, graphic novels are sometimes
subject to biases and misinterpretations, which can belittle the authenticity of the accounts being
given. Different accounts of the events hold different biases. They could either represent those who
have undergone the specific event or that of someone who has speculated from the outside. In A.D.
New Orleans after the Deluge, Josh Neufeld represents a perspective not commonly exemplified, as he
assigns different perspectives to his character and juxtaposes them using the dialogue from their
interactions. A different view of the story is told, and reasons to the questionable, or unethical actions
of the victims are brought into focus and analyzed through a perspective that sides with the victims.

Waste Water Treatment
Sewage treatment
The objective of sewage treatment is to produce a disposable effluent without causing harm to the
surrounding environment and prevent pollution.[1]
Sewage treatment, or domestic wastewater treatment, is the process of removing contaminants from
wastewater and household sewage, both runoff (effluents) and domestic. It includes physical,
chemical, and biological processes to remove physical, chemical and biological contaminants. Its
objective is to produce an environmentally safe fluid waste stream (or treated effluent) and a solid
waste (or treated sludge) suitable for disposal or reuse (usually as farm fertilizer). Using advanced
technology it is now possible to re use sewage effluent for drinking water, although ... Show more

[edit] Pre treatment
Pre treatment removes materials that can be easily collected from the raw wastewater before they
damage or clog the pumps and skimmers of primary treatment clarifiers (trash, tree limbs, leaves,
etc.).
[edit] Screening
The influent sewage water is screened to remove all large objects carried in the sewage stream.[5]
This is most commonly done with an automated mechanically raked bar screen in modern plants
serving large populations, whilst in smaller or less modern plants a manually cleaned screen may be
used. The raking action of a mechanical bar screen is typically paced according to the accumulation on
the bar screens and/or flow rate. The solids are collected and later disposed in a landfill or incinerated.
Bar screens or mesh screens of varying sizes may be used to optimise solids removal. If gross solids
are not removed they become entrained in pipes and moving parts of the treatment plant and can cause
substantial damage and inefficiency in the process.[6]:9

Pre treatment may include a sand or grit channel or chamber where the

  • 2. Character Analysis Of Arthur Conan Doyle Title Arthur Conan Doyle, portrays Sherlock to be that of an intellectual and ingenious detective. Sherlock presents those traits in copious ways while solving his endless amounts of crimes. However, the main quality Sherlock repetitively uses to help solve his mysterious, is his manipulative personality. Sherlock Holmes uses manipulation to influence his accomplices or in most cases his sidekick Watson, to intimidate or trick his suspects into confession, and to remain control of his situations or further plans. Many times Doyle lets Sherlock come off as manipulative to really influence his friends so that he is able to make his case. He uses his manipulation to his advantage so that there will be little to no complications when solving his crimes. Manipulation is a huge part of Sherlock s personality, and in every way he tries to use it to his as well as his mystery solving advantage. Doyle enforces Sherlock to question his suspects so that they will confess to their wrong doings. Sherlock uses his manipulative skills to intimidate and trick his suspects into giving information without them even realizing they are doing so. Sherlock is incredibly clever, and quite witty when being manipulative, he does it so nonchalantly that his suspects really think it s to their advantage, an example of this is when Sherlock is arguing with the goose merchant, It s merely taking your money, for I know that I am right. But I ll have a sovereign on with you, just to teach you not to be obstinate. (Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle, 54). Sherlock is so clever to accuse his suspect of something, so that they will give the evidence he is looking for. • 3. The Issue Of Team Self Management Essay Literature Review: Self Management The issue of team self management is one of great interest in today s complex environment, it seems many businesses are restructuring themselves in an attempt to modernize and stay relevant. Some of the most successful organizations in modern times were nothing more than an idea a decade or two ago, with names like Facebook and Zappos. Part of this successful startup culture includes decentralization of decision making, often leading to a more flexible and employee friendly work environment. More traditional organizations are taking note of this trend and studying it or implementing it themselves. Other common terms for the idea of organizational decentralization include: team self management, self management, shared control, distributed leadership (Lambe, Webb, Ishida, 2009) and holacracy (Robertson, 2007). While these terms may have small differences they all describe the common theme of distributing power across organizations. Several concepts help to explain why decentralization and the encouragement of teamwork throughout an organization are often superior to traditional management structure. Many types of studies have been conducted and share the common outcome that performance is often better within the workplace when outcomes are judged as a team rather than specific individuals. Additional studies have been shown than teams are more likely to come up with effective and necessary management tactics than appointing a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Amphetamine, also known by the IUPAC name of 1 phenylopropan 2 amine, contains the functional groups methyl (CH3) and amine (NH2). These functional groups cause the drug to release the neurotransmitters dopamine, serotine and norepinephrine from the nerve endings in the brain (Iversen). This happens because of the similar structure to dopamine. Once the neurotransmitters have been released, the amphetamines cause a buildup of them around the synapse and plug the transporter molecules preventing their re uptake. This causes a flooding of extra neurotransmitters in the brain. Since amphetamines are so similar in structure to dopamine, the drug is able to enter the terminal button through the neural membrane as well as through the dopamine transporters. The amphetamine molecules then trick the mind into believing that it is dopamine being taken up. Once in the presynaptic neuron, the amphetamines, disguised as dopamine, push the extra dopamine into the synaptic gap, and the transporters are forced to work in reverse, producing even ... Trump approached the Mexican president, Enrique Peña Nieto that his country will have to pay for the wall to be built. This didn t go over to well creating some tension between trump and our neighbor to the south with in his first month of election. Enrique Peña Nieto wanted nothing to do with paying for the wall since the price tag is so high. With this Ideal to build a wall, he also added as a side note to hire over 10,000 plus immigration officers to eliminate federal money to sanctuary cities. These cities refuse to deport undocumented immigrants. Also he vowed to catch and deport the millions of men, women and children who live in this country without documentation. As of his 100th day in office there has been a recorded decrease in illegal Southwest border crossings due to his increase in border security. Homeland Security as of March 8 release data showing that in there was alone 18,762 illegal immigrants caught. This is estimated as a 60% decline from november before Trump took over in office. Vonnegut published his novel at the start of the second wave of feminism where women s rights were finally beginning to get recognition (Napikoski, Feminism in 1969 ). However, the main character in Slaughterhouse Five, Billy Pilgrim, reinforces the idea that all women match a certain unjust category. Vonnegut has received much praise for his novel Slaughterhouse Five, however upon further analysis, his portrayal of female characters fit flawed stereotypes. • 25. Free Trade And Its Effects On Society Free trade hates certain things. It hates regulations, tariffs, taxes, subsidies for local business, and cultural customs that interfere with efficient production and trade. This is why international organizations, governments, and corporations have created free trade zones. These zones are perfect because they have little or no regulation, environmental or social, tariffs, taxes, or subsidies. Basically, a free trade zone is a regulation free, haven for factories where pieces of goods can be shipped, assembled, and shipped back out at the very lowest cost possible. But there is a catch, once the countries have allowed sweatshops (factories, assembly plants) to take hold, a chain reaction is set in motion. The low wages that sweatshops pay create three things in poverty, which creates hunger, disease, and lack of funds for medicine. The hunger and disease can cause more hunger and disease because the victims of hunger and disease can no longer work to get the money that could fix their hunger and disease. They just cause more poverty. The mechanisms of this global stage are complicated and, for the most part, hidden. The players are more easily named. The World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Bank loan money to poor countries to help their economies and infrastructures. But they loan at a price: deference. Once the poor countries are in debt, they must make concessions in their spending like cutting health care. In this way, free trade takes advantage of poverty. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the Obama administration, there had already been talks regarding the taxing of carried interest , the 20% incentive fee charged by private equity firms, as regular income rather than capital gains. Under current legislation, managers can avoid paying steep income taxes on the 20% incentive fee in favor of the significantly lower capital gains taxes, thereby saving hundreds of millions of dollars annually at the expense of the middle class taxpayer. This is accomplished through for the use of management fee waivers and carried interest tax loopholes that recognizes the 20% incentive fee portion as capital gains. *Note, that ordinary income tax rate maxes out at 39.6% while the capital gain tax rate is only 23.8%. Bipartisan push for Private Equity Tax Reform Class warfare is a term that is often thrown around by Republicans to describe any attempt to tax the upper class, and yet Republicans and Democrats alike have found common ground when it comes to eliminating the carried interest tax break. Recently, President Barack Obama met with Business Roundtable, an association comprising of the nation s top CEOs, to argue his case for eliminating the prominent tax loophole. He states that the tax loophole provides no recognizable economic benefit, but instead is causing the middle class to suffer financially as a consequence. Identity Crisis Among African Americans Khyandria Celestine Professor Sandra Staton Taiwo Identity Crisis amongst African Americans 17 November 2014 Abstract The question of self identity has been commonly argued in field of the African American literature; with scholars such as Martin R. Delany and W.E.B Du Bois argue about the emphasis on race and racial consciousness. Together Du Bois and Delaney stress the importance of the color line, or the racial segregation in the United States, as a critical part of American history; nonetheless they both had completely dissimilar thoughts on the subject. Du Bois placed more emphasizes on double consciousness. He was concerned that African Americans put superiority of one part of their heritage over the other. On the other hand, Delaney argues that the major problem with identity is the separation and how it was derived from slavery. However, these arguments have not effectively addressed the issue of defining one s identity. My paper addresses the issue of successfully identifying what we consider African Americans with special attention to why there was once only Black and White with no shades of gray in America. Specifically, in my argument, I will be examining the monolithic labels, e.g. black, placed on people of African descendants, in order to show how history has failed to correctly identify African Americans. I will discuss self identity and consciousness, and juxtapose them against race and ethnicity, in order to reveal the previously misunderstood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The King promised to meet some of the ladies and give them all the bread in the palace. Before that happened The National guard came to take the king back to France for fear of his safety. Up to this point, Gould s argument follows the path of logic, reason, and objectivity. However, as he picks apart the creationists argument, he ratchets up his emotions a notch or two. • 32. How to Control Huntington’s Disease Currently, there is no cure for Huntington s disease (HD) and only limited numbers of treatments are effective in controlling HD symptoms. HD a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor disturbances, psychiatric dysfunctions, and cognitive disabilities. HD is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner, means that the inheritance of a single copy of the mutant huntingtin allele containing an expanded CAG repeat region in exon 1 ( 36 CAG repeat) causes the disease. Translation of the mutant allele mRNA yields the mutant huntingtin protein (mHtt) containing an expanded polyglutamine region near the amino terminus, which favor protein cleavage and accumulation of the N terminus in the nucleus. N terminal huntingtin affects transcription of subsets of genes. Early in HD progression, levels of the cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) and dopamine receptor type 2 (D2) are reduced in the medium spiny neurons of the striatum. CB1 receptor is able to activate several signaling pathways through the activation of different G proteins as well as arrestin 2. Furthermore, compelling anatomical and physiological evidence suggests a strong interaction between the CB1 and D2 receptors. Given this interaction between CB1 and D2 receptors, drugs that block or activate either receptor will influence convergent signaling pathways. Typical and atypical antipsychotics, including haloperidol and olanzapine, respectively, are commonly prescribed to HD patients to control chorea and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are several authors who have already occupied themselves with the interplay of emotions and rationality in the decision making process (Lowenstein Lerner, 2003; Damasio, 1988 1994 just to name a few). In order to address this question, I decided to turn to one of the greatest thinkers of Western thought: Spinoza. Re reading the 4th part of his magnum opos Ethics, which carries the title Of Human Bondage or the strength of emotions , I could not but think of some central aspects of Kahneman Tversky s work on heuristics, bias, framing effects and prospect theory. Given the chronological gap between the works of Kahneman Tversky and Spinoza s Ethics I was impressed by the actuality inherent to Spinoza s thought. While rational thought as the attribute of human mind has been considered for a long time as being superior to emotions, Spinoza argued that both the mind and the body were parallel attributes (call them manifestations) of the very same substance (Damasio, 1988: 12). • 44. Analysis Of New Orleans After The Deluge The Juxtaposition Graphic novels have the ability to portray multiple perspectives and can cleverly represent as many groups an author believes is needed. What becomes the decision of the author is which perspective deems more important or more fascinating. Depending on which the author decides to portray, there tends to be different effects on the readers. Neufeld uses Scott s Mccloud s ideas from Understanding Comics, such as adding detail to a character to differentiate them from the reader in order to induce certain emotions. The perspective taken from the primary source may receive more empathy or distaste depending on who the author chooses to represent. Through detailing certain character, this focus is made clear to be on the victims. However, graphic novels are sometimes subject to biases and misinterpretations, which can belittle the authenticity of the accounts being given. Different accounts of the events hold different biases. They could either represent those who have undergone the specific event or that of someone who has speculated from the outside. In A.D. New Orleans after the Deluge, Josh Neufeld represents a perspective not commonly exemplified, as he assigns different perspectives to his character and juxtaposes them using the dialogue from their interactions. A different view of the story is told, and reasons to the questionable, or unethical actions of the victims are brought into focus and analyzed through a perspective that sides with the victims. ... If it is sufficiently clean, it can also be used for groundwater recharge or agricultural purposes. Process Flow Diagram for a typical large scale treatment plant Process Flow Diagram for a typical treatment plant via Subsurface Flow Constructed Wetlands (SFCW) [edit] Pre treatment Pre treatment removes materials that can be easily collected from the raw wastewater before they damage or clog the pumps and skimmers of primary treatment clarifiers (trash, tree limbs, leaves, etc.). [edit] Screening The influent sewage water is screened to remove all large objects carried in the sewage stream.[5] This is most commonly done with an automated mechanically raked bar screen in modern plants serving large populations, whilst in smaller or less modern plants a manually cleaned screen may be used. The raking action of a mechanical bar screen is typically paced according to the accumulation on the bar screens and/or flow rate. The solids are collected and later disposed in a landfill or incinerated. Bar screens or mesh screens of varying sizes may be used to optimise solids removal. If gross solids are not removed they become entrained in pipes and moving parts of the treatment plant and can cause substantial damage and inefficiency in the process.[6]:9 [edit] Grit removal Pre treatment may include a sand or grit channel or chamber where the ...
