This document provides instructions for an in-class activity analyzing documentary film techniques in Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine". Students are asked to watch and analyze scenes from the film based on their use of cinematic techniques and engagement of spectators. They will then recap and discuss different modes of documentary - participatory, performative, and expository - by analyzing example scenes in pairs and reporting their findings. Finally, students will write a PEA paragraph analyzing one of the scenes discussed using evidence of film language and representation.
