There are huge expectations from Agile approaches. Agile is expected to resolve all the problems we face when using traditional project methods. What is more, it is described as a very easy to use, almost without any effort to embed it in an organization. We simply reject the traditional "waterfall" approach to project management and introduce Agile. Some people promise that you don’t need anything more if you start using Agile. The speaker will highlight all myths and facts about Agile and guide the audience through organizational governance of business change with the portfolio, programme, team and delivery management. Agile is a part of organization governance and there is a room for both Agile and traditional project management. There is no conflict between traditional and Agile approaches - they do support each other! The principles of AgilePM will be shortly presented together with good and bad examples of applying Agile to the projects.

JVMCON Java in the 21st Century: are you thinking far enough ahead?Steve Poole
Discussions abound about the ‘future of Java’ though most of them are actually focused on the here and now. What are the consequences of Java 9 modularity, of moving JEE to Eclipse, of running your application in the cloud? All questions that are important now. but what are the important questions for tomorrow?
In this talk learn about a different view on the real future of Java. See how new hardware technologies, new software approaches and new ideas are powering Java towards a life far removed from that envisioned at its inception. It’s time to look up and see how you will need to change how you think: Whether it's driven by AI or Quantum Computers the problems of tomorrow demand new approaches and new thinking. Are you ready?
n detail the talk will show examples from simple procedural thinking , through lambdas to neural networks etc up to quantum computing. The talk will cover how the JVM is being extended to embrace new forms of hardware - from GPU's and FPGAs and large compute clusters through organic processors and (eventually) QC's.
This talk will explain the journey that Java is on and how its ultimate end point is perhaps not what you'd expect.

Scrum, XP, and Kanban have been proven to provide step changes in productivity and quality for software teams. However, these methods do not have the native constructs necessary to scale to challenges of building enterprise class software systems. What the industry desperately needs is a solution that moves from a set of simplistic, disparate, development-centric methods, to a scalable, unified approach that addresses the complex constructs and additional stakeholders in the organization- and enables realization of enterprise-class product or service initiatives via aligned and cooperative solution development.
In this talk, Dean Leffingwell describes how to accomplish this with the Scaled Agile Framework, a publicly - accessible knowledge base of proven Lean and Agile practices for enterprise-class software development. He approaches the problem from the perspectives of Lean thinking and principles of product development flow, illustrating how these core principles help deliver business results at scale, while keeping the development system - and the enterprise - lean and responsive to rapidly changing market needs. And since winning is more fun, he’ll also describe some of the personal benefits that come when teams master the art of delivering better enterprise-class software, at an ever faster pace.

B. den Haak. How to make OKRs Lean AgainAgile Lietuva
OKRs are a goal-setting, strategy execution tool that involves setting ambitious goals that lead to measurable results. The thing is, over the years, OKRs have gotten too complicated - they need to be put on a diet - and that’s where Lean OKRs step in. They are hyper-focused on one single OKR to rule all others. Often, OKRs are not set up for success and thus tossed aside.
There are four (and a half) common reasons why your OKRs aren’t working. Among them, the importance of finding a rhythm for making OKRs part of your way of working, leading teams with trust, and getting the foundation in place so teams aren’t running before they learn how to walk.

First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.
Designing for Privacy in Amazon Web ServicesKrzysztofKkol1
Data privacy is one of the most critical issues that businesses face. This presentation shares insights on the principles and best practices for ensuring the resilience and security of your workload.
Drawing on a real-life project from the HR industry, the various challenges will be demonstrated: data protection, self-healing, business continuity, security, and transparency of data processing. This systematized approach allowed to create a secure AWS cloud infrastructure that not only met strict compliance rules but also exceeded the client's expectations.
Globus Compute wth IRI Workflows - GlobusWorld 2024Globus
As part of the DOE Integrated Research Infrastructure (IRI) program, NERSC at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and ALCF at Argonne National Lab are working closely with General Atomics on accelerating the computing requirements of the DIII-D experiment. As part of the work the team is investigating ways to speedup the time to solution for many different parts of the DIII-D workflow including how they run jobs on HPC systems. One of these routes is looking at Globus Compute as a way to replace the current method for managing tasks and we describe a brief proof of concept showing how Globus Compute could help to schedule jobs and be a tool to connect compute at different facilities.

Innovating Inference - Remote Triggering of Large Language Models on HPC Clus...Globus
Large Language Models (LLMs) are currently the center of attention in the tech world, particularly for their potential to advance research. In this presentation, we'll explore a straightforward and effective method for quickly initiating inference runs on supercomputers using the vLLM tool with Globus Compute, specifically on the Polaris system at ALCF. We'll begin by briefly discussing the popularity and applications of LLMs in various fields. Following this, we will introduce the vLLM tool, and explain how it integrates with Globus Compute to efficiently manage LLM operations on Polaris. Attendees will learn the practical aspects of setting up and remotely triggering LLMs from local machines, focusing on ease of use and efficiency. This talk is ideal for researchers and practitioners looking to leverage the power of LLMs in their work, offering a clear guide to harnessing supercomputing resources for quick and effective LLM inference.
Listen to the keynote address and hear about the latest developments from Rachana Ananthakrishnan and Ian Foster who review the updates to the Globus Platform and Service, and the relevance of Globus to the scientific community as an automation platform to accelerate scientific discovery.
