A Reflection On Public Service
As students of Masters of Public Service degrees, it is imperative to develop a holistic and deep
understanding of what public service means. Our class discussions have shown us the ambiguity of
striking a balance between opposing forces: between intention and outcome, aid and empowerment,
intrinsic and extrinsic affirmation, and self interest and altruism. How do we balance these
perspectives, when each has its benefits and pitfalls to the success of any project? In determining
my own definitionof public service, my hope is to elucidate factors that optimize each of these
perspectives. In doing so, we can come closer to defining public service in a way that is both
operationally useful and ethically guiding. Considering course documents and class discussions, I
have defined the phrase as follows:
The public is a marginalized body unable or unexpected to monetarily repay servants for
provided goods. Service is an act that results in improved quality of life as reported by receiving
individuals. Therefore public service is defined by (1) actions resulting (2) in goods that improve
quality of life (3) as reported by marginalized recipients (4) who are unable or unexpected to
monetarily repay the servant.
By fragmenting the definition into four parts, I can address the issues of intention versus outcome,

In the movie Fight Club we are introduced to an average, white collared, middle aged man who is
seemingly normal at first glance. However, it is clear that the narrator suffers from insomnia,
anxiety, and depression very early in the film. The narrator attempts to combat these symptoms in a

groups on a nightly basis.

amount of water present on the earth. The limited amount of water then poses the issue of water
scarcity in some areas and makes the wise use and sustainable management of water extremely
important. To ensure this sustainable management of water and prevent any misuse, it is important
to have an appropriate institutional framework that looks after the water supply. The lack of a
proper framework in the past has lead to the shifting of water management from the hands of the
government to the private sector (Prasad, 2007).
The purpose of writing this essay is to look into the current state of water supply, the issues
surrounding the water supply and the correct method to overcome the prevailing issues. This essay
will answer the question is privatization of water the solution to solving the current water crisis in
different parts of the world? I will argue for the need of a public private partnership to ensure a
balance between the private sector and the government. In Section (1) of the essay I will talk about
the failings in the current water system and the reasons leading to a shift towards privatization.

Analysis Of Attack The Block
Attack the Block (2011) was directed by Joe Cornish and produced by Studio Gems. The genre of
the film is Action and adventure and it includes science fiction which means it s an hybridized
genre. The People Being Represented Are a gang of teenage boys who deal drugs are violent and
vulgar. In the end they beat the aliens but suffer casualties.
Son of Rambow (2007) film has a hybridized genre which consists of comedy, action and
adventure. Garth Jennings is the writer, director and producer of the film and the studio behind it
is Paramount Vantage. The year April 4th 2008 was when it was first released in theaters. Will and
Lee who are two young boys who decide to shoot an action themed Rambo like film. They are
both different in terms of religious beliefs and their class within society. 8 16 is the age range of
the film.
Attack the Block is set in 2011, South London. One day, They get invaded by aliens. The
conventions of the film are that it includes violence and a set of fighting characters. The main cast
are male and dominant/ fast action cuts in fighting sequences and cgi used to animate. The film
includes Propp s characters. It s a conventional film which portray teens as brave and rebellious.
The teens wear thuggish clothes.
Son of Rambow is set In 1980s England, two young schoolboys Will Proudfoot and Lee Carter
meet by chance in a hallway. They have so few in common that you would think they are both
strangers to each other, but in this scenario it is different.

The Divine Comedy By Virgil And Dante
Relationships come in many forms with varying troubles and blessings. In the book, The Divine
Comedy, two of the main characters, Virgil and Dante, can have a seemingly simple relationship,
but when closely examined and reflected on, it is actually quite complex. They venture through the
depths of hell, the complications of a long journey, and the perplexing reality of purgatory.
Throughout their relationship they are faced with different gains and trials that they react to in
various ways. Their circumstances are always changing and the course is rough, but throughout the
entirety of their venture together, there remains one constant element, and that is the love they
share in their relationship. It is outwardly expressed through their actions and words throughout the
entirety of the book.
The question I came across in reading The Divine Comedy is:
Why does Dante use different terms to address Virgil? What do they mean or what is their
significance? How does the development of their relationship affect the story as a whole?
The most common name used by Dante is My guide , which is the most logical name he would
use to call Virgil. This is because Virgil is leading Dante through all these different journeys,
taking every step right by his side. Virgil has an understanding of Dante s uncertainty, and takes
him under his wing. He was chosen for Dante to guide him and that is why Dante uses the
possessive my to refer to him because Virgil was specifically provided
