Taking An Abnormal Psychology Class
Taking an abnormal psychology class is not part of my requirements for my degree, but with my
wanting to work with children and their families, I feel that this course was beneficial for me to
take. I also enjoy learning about how the human mind works, the different disorders, and ways to
help people that may be suffering from the many disorders that we covered. As I have mentioned
throughout the semester, I or someone I know has or is suffering from many of the disorders we
have discussed. I personally have struggled with addiction and bulimia in my past, and I feel that
learning more in depth can assist me in my future if I have a student that also struggles with
similar disorders. My father suffers from schizophrenia, although he attempts to block his
disorder out and refuses medication. This can be extremely hard for both me and my child to
visit him because he is different. I try to remember that the disorder is not his fault and I also try
to remind my daughter that he is her grandfather and she should accept him, but it is a struggle
for both of us. I feel that learning a little more on schizophrenia was helpful for me and I plan on
doing a little more research on my own time to also help me to cope with his differentness .

From Thales of Miletus, the first ancient Greek philosopher, to Socrates and Aristotle, ancient
Greek philosophy has set the standard for modern intellectual and rational thought. They developed
new ways of reasoning and logic to explain the natural phenomena that surround them. Reality,
existence, and the essence of things were the basis of what these philosophers sought to rationalize.
In this paper, I will be discussing the epistemology and ontologypresented by The Eleatics, the
Pluralists, and The Atomists. These three Pre Socratic schools often opposed one another s
epistemological and ontological views. However, each critic resulted in even more theories and
laws that we still use to this day. Their works also improved the standard for argument which
became of great use to the future Classical and modern philosophers.

The Elastic School of Philosophy, established by Parmenides in the fifth century, was best known
for the development of early philosophers including Zeno of Elea and Xenophanes of Colophon.
The Elastics works often pointed to their use of logic and reason rather than sense experience to
find the ultimate truths . These ultimate truths were concerned with the Being and Becoming of
things rather than the origin of the things themselves. In this section, we are going to focus

It s autumn and, just like any other season, you re hard at work at your barn. Your barn cats are
hard at work, as well, hunting and munching on the overabundant rodent population nesting in
your hay. In a brief moment of rest, you remove your gloves, wincing as the cold air hits your
dry, cracked skin. One of the barn cats also joins you in your reprieve and you reach down to run
your hands through her fur. Briefly, you notice a bit of nasal discharge and some scabs on her
paws and face, but you chalk it up to the weather and get back to work.
A couple of days go by and you begin to notice pus like sores on your hands. They re inflamed and
red and suddenly you re reminded of the barn cat you pet a while back. Deciding to give her a
more thorough once over, you return to the barn on your precious day off to hunt her down. It s
easy enough to find her; she s resting atop a pile of blankets while the other cats are out and about
hunting. She appears thinner than you remember her being and she barely even registers your

To educated the public, the city of Miami has distributed hurricane prepare manuals. These manuals
entail information on the proper evacuation routes one should take based on their location. Also,
this information informs the reader of the steps needed to prepare a house before evacuation.
Though there are numerous mitigation strategies implemented already by the city of Miami, I
personally believe that there is room for improvement. The suggestion I have created involves the
the education of the citizens in Miami. I suggest that new citizens of Miami are required to attend a
short seminar on hurricane evacuation. Though this plan seems extreme and inconvenient, I believe

Personal Note On Self Awareness
Self awareness is always a helpful trait to have in any facet of life. Dr. Kahlib Fischer said that
the task of completing the self awareness test is a means of helping you come to terms with ways
that God has gifted and equipped you to serve His purposes in whatever organization He has you
in (2006). Being aware of your own weaknesses and strengths can help you strive to be a better
version of your current self. How, you may ask? For me, I know that time managementand attention
to detail are weaknesses. Because I know that, I am aware that I need to pay extra attention to
the things that require these two traits. It has helped me prioritize activities to ensure I get them
done correctly and in a timely manner. I used the Prentice Hall Self Assessment Online Library
to learn more about myself (2016). I hope to be able to use the knowledge I have gained in my
personal and professional life. Below is a summary of what I learned from each part of the
