To fully understand this artwork, The Cycle of Terror and Tragedy, done by artist
Graydon Parrish in 2002, one must have a general understanding of the events that
took place on September 11th, 2001. Because the painting is portraying the events

pain swept through him. He placed the cotton wadding over the wound and wrapped
the dressing over it. He tied the ends with his teeth. When the author emerges the
reader into the story, it makes them able to relate to the agony the sniper is in, which
contributes back to the mood.

Individuality In Anthem

word of the totalitarian society created by Ayn Rand in Anthem. In Rand s 1938
novel, her main character, Equality 7 2125 unknowingly followed the path of
individuality, which was against the wishes of society. Proving that knowledge is a
product of the observations and mental integrations of individuals, he rebelled against
the ideals his society chained him with. He found his ego and sense of self, amidst a
world who deemed it a sin to do so. Through the point of view/narration, themes,
characterization and conflicts, Rand wanted to convey the dangers of a failed
government, and the need for individuality.
When beginning the novel, Rand uses a first person point of view, yet instead of
the common plural forms of, I and My , she has the narrator use, We and Our.
Equality was taught that individuality didn t exist, and instead that all men must be
alike, therefore there is only, we. Upon reading this, it seems as if Rand was
writing about multiple people, yet this is how the society must address themselves,
because no man gets singled out. The plural forms remain the same, until the
beginning of chapter eleven, where Equality finally discovers the form of, I . This
type of narration allowed the ideals of society to be made apparent, and progressed
the plot in Equality s search of individuality.
Individualism and collectivism are two core themes that are present in the novel. It s
as if these two themes work against each other, in order to obtain individuality, you
must get rid of collectivism, and vice versa. As Equality lives through his days, he
discovers his unspoken lover, the Golden One , and begins to explore egotistical

My own worldview would be most similar to the interpretive paradigm. I m
definitely a humanistic scholar. Just like the book states, I believe that, meaning is
presumed to be subjective and unique to the individual, even though meaning is

David Hume was a Scottish philosopher in the eighteenth century that had some
pretty interesting views on cause and effect, which made him an empiricist. This just
means that he believed that you had to experience something in order to know about
it. David Hume was also best known for his influence on the systems of philosophical
empiricism, skepticism, and naturalism. Immanuel Kant was a German philosopher
and like Hume, was in the eighteenth century. Kant had many great points in his life
and research and his beliefs, to this day, continue to have massive influences on
contemporary philosophy. Especially in the fields of metaphysics, epistemology,
political theory, and aesthetics. In this paper, we will discuss David Hume s
empiricist skepticism with Immanuel Kant s theory of transcendental idealism.
Like stated earlier, David Hume had a very interesting view on cause and effect or
causality. Like me, many of us believe that cause and effect go together hand in
hand. For example, take the billiards game pool, If I hit the cue ball into the eight
ball, we will call this idea one, and the eight ball proceeds towards the designed
pocket, we will call this idea two, this would be cause and effect. I did something

When you look back through time at the history of decolonization, there are many
names that come to mind, but two that should be focused on are Frantz Fanon and
Mahatma Gandhi. Both of these men were strong advocates for anti colonialism and
nationalism. Their attitudes can be described by this quote from Frantz Fanon who
said, what matters is not to know the world but to change it. They may have been
active during different times in history, but they both took action to see that the

Arrow of God written by Chinua Achebe is set in the 1920 s located in Nigeria. The
