INTRODUCTION
ICTs have become within a very short time, one of
the basic building blocks of modern society.
 The role of ICT in education is becoming more and
more important and this importance will continue to
grow and develop in the 21st century.
WHAT IS ICT?
 ICT refers to technologies that provide access to
information through telecommunications.
 This includes the Internet, wireless networks, cell
phones, and other communication mediums.
WHAT IS EDUCATION?
 Education in its general
sense is a form of
learning in which the
knowledge, skills, and
habits of a group of
people are transferred
from one generation to
the next through
teaching, training, or
research.
TYPES OF EDUCATION
Education
Formal

BENEFICIARIES OF FORMAL EDUCATION
Teachers
Students
ICT FOR TEACHERS
 ICT facilitates sharing of
resources, expertise and
advice
 Greater flexibility in when
and where tasks are carried
out.
 Gains in ICT literacy skills,
confidence and enthusiasm.
 Easier planning and
preparation of lessons and
designing materials.
 Access to up-to-date pupil
and school data, any time and
anywhere.
ICT FOR STUDENTS
 Higher quality lessons through greater
collaboration between teachers in
planning and preparing resources.
 More focused teaching, tailored to
students’ strengths and weaknesses,
through better analysis of attainment
data.
 Improved pastoral care and behavior
management through better tracking of
students.
 Gains in understanding and analytical
skills, including improvements in
reading.
 Comprehension.
 Development of writing skills
(including spelling, grammar,
punctuation, editing and re-drafting),
also fluency, originality and elaboration.
INFORMATIONETHICS IN EDUCATION
Information ethics has been defined as "the branch of
ethics that focuses on the relationship between the
creation, organization, dissemination, and use of
information, and the ethical standards and moral codes
governing human conduct in society“ . (Wikipedia).
It provides a critical framework for considering moral
issues concerning informational privacy between the
teachers and the students, among the researchers and
also for others in the larger field of society in the use of
information communication technology.
BENEFITS FOR OTHERS
 Easier communication with teachers.
 Higher quality student reports –
more legible, more detailed, better
presented .
 Greater access to more accurate
attendance and attainment
information.
 Increased involvement in education
for parents and, in some cases,
improved self-esteem .
 Increased knowledge of children’s
learning and capabilities, owing to
increase in learning activity being
situated in the home
ADVANTAGES
 Greater efficiency throughout the school.
 Communication channels are increased through
email, discussion groups and chat rooms.
 Regular use of ICT across different curriculum
subjects can have a beneficial motivational
influence on students’ learning.
LIMITATIONS OF ICT
 Many conditions can be considered as limitations of
ICT use in education.
 The limitations can be categorized as
Teacher related
Student related, and
Technology related.
All of them potentially limit the benefits of ICT to
education.
ICT IN EDUCATION IN INDIA
 The Global ICT Standardization Forum for India (GISFI) is an
Indian standardization body active in the area of Information and
Communication Technologies (ICT) and related application areas,
such as energy, telemedicine, wireless robotics, biotechnology.
 A Committee has been constituted to draft a Policy on the usage of
ICT in Schools Education. A draft policy has been prepared which is
in the final stage. The draft policy aims at using ICT for preparing
youth to compete globally and participate creatively in the
establishment, sustenance and growth of a knowledge society.
 National Award for Teachers using ICT for Innovation in Education.
 The entries for the ICT award for 2010 and 2011 have already been
screened. The awards will be announced soon. States were requested
to send the nomination for the ICT award for the year 2012 by 30th
June 2012.
CONCLUSION & SUGGESTIONS
 The impact of ICTs is very much
high in modern society….
 It is generally noticed that
applications of ICTs are mainly
concentrated in the urban based
educational sectors and the digital
divide is always prevalent in the all
spheres of society.
 Everyone should be covered to get
the benefits of ICT and both the
government and non-government
sectors should come forward to
bridge the gap of such digital
division.
