Ancient Egypt was divided into Upper and Lower Egypt along the Nile River. Most Egyptians were farmers who traded goods with neighbors. Egyptians believed the Pharaoh was a god or goddess and had many deities in their religion. Boys received better education than girls through hieroglyphic writing and scribes held honored positions. The Pharaoh had supreme power as both political and religious leader, ruling over Egypt's approximately 31 dynasties for over 3,000 years.
