Nefertiti Research Paper
For over a decade Nefertiti, wife of the Pharaoh Akhenaten originally known as Amenhotep IV, was
an influential woman in the Bronze Age. Her image and name were renowned throughout Upper
and Lower Egypt. Suddenly, after the end of the reign of Akhenaten, Nefertiti disappeared from the
royal family, vanishing so completely that it was as if she had never been. No known record
survives to detail her death; no found monument serves to represent the mourning of her death. To
this day her expiration remains a conundrum.
She was the beloved wife of heretic king Akhenaten, who defied customs by practicing monotheism
and by elevating Nefertiti far above the role of subservient consort. Her image has enraptured
viewers ever since a limestone bust unearthed in modern day Amarna went on display in Berlin in
1924. But few facts are proven about this woman. As Akhenaten dismissed the plethora of old
gods, distressing many of his subjects, he had a strong female figure in Nefertiti to ease the
supernatural rigorousness of Aten, the sun deity. His chief consort s semblance was celebrated in
official art and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her name means the beautiful one has come. Her origins and much about her life are unclear.
Her alleged mother or stepmother, Tiy, was also described as her nurse and governess. Her
presumed father was Ay, as a scribe and keeper of the king s, Amenhotep III, records.
Perhaps his standing made it possible for Nefertiti to secure an entrance to the court and to
become friendly with the king s eldest son, Amenhotep IV. Taking into consideration her father s
advanced aspirations, at age eleven Nefertiti already appeared to have been groomed to be queen.
It is recognized that she lived her earlier years in the palace at Thebes. After the young King
Amenhotep IV ascended the throne at about age fourteen on his father s death, he married

Talent Management And Talent Essay
1. Determine which performance management process you will employ to measure employee talent.
As I review the chapters, and think about the process that would be best to measure employee
talent, I believe that my favorite would be the 360 performance management process. So I will
employ this one to measure employee talent for this assignment. It is known for providing critical
on going feedback to maximize performance in organizations. The on going feedback helps
everyone maximize their performance and in turn maximizes the organizations performance. It
allows for quick corrective action when things start to go off the rails, so managers and employees
can address any issues while they are still small. While ideally managers and ... Show more content

Employees who have experience in leadership and have been in the industry a while would be in
the talent pool called leadership talent. The next key concept after the employee has been placed in
the talent pool, is to establish a planned development program which share and teaches them the
business knowledge and well as professionalism, teamwork and leadership development. Another
key concept is the increase of retention of employees identified in the various pools. One of the first
key concepts of talent management for this for profit organization is to develop talent and identify
functional areas is linked to the business strategy. After you review the business strategy to ensure
linked to the functional areas, you identify the focus areas. Next you identify and define the
organizational capabilities, then define key leaders. Assess and define individual functional
standards. Then identify and build talent systems components, and then measure impact and
effectiveness. To help achieve these steps mentioned above you must implement a structured
selection process. Develop a career development program that also assesses talent. Implement
formal learning and developing programs. Merge functional competencies integrated with the
performance management systems; measure and assess your outcomes and then reward and
recognize employees that have excelled in the programs. The key components for the employee

Biosynthesis of glycyrrhizin is not fully elucidated at gene level. The early stages of triterpenoid
saponin biosynthesis via isoprenoid pathway involve the dimerization of two molecules of
farnesyl diphosphate catalyzed by squalene synthase, epoxidase mediated oxidation then produces
2,3 oxidosqualene. The first diversifying step in triterpenoid biosynthesis is the cyclization of 2,3
oxidosqualene a common substrate of oxidosqualene cyclases (OSCs) and a precursor of both
triterpenes and sterols [Abe et al., 1993]. The biosynthesis of glycyrrhizin involves the initial
cyclization of 2, 3 oxidosqualene by a specific OSC, ОІ amyrin synthase (bAS), to the primarily
oleanane triterpene ОІ amyrin which is one of the most commonly occurring triterpenes in plants.
The subsequent steps involve a series of oxidative reactions at positions C 11 (two step oxidation)
and C 30 (three step oxidation), followed by glycosyl transfers to the C 3 hydroxyl group.
Genes involved in the early stages of glycyrrhizin biosynthesis, namely, squalene synthase and
bAS, have been functionally isolated from G. glabra [Hayashi et al., 1999, 2001]. The bAS gene
has also been functionally isolated from several other plants including Arabidopsis thaliana
[Shibuya et al., 2009], Avena strigosa [Qi et al., 2004], Lotus japonicus [Sawai et al., 2006], and
Medicago truncatula [Suzuki et al., 2002]; however, most of the steps in the modification of the

Southwest Airlines Case
Southwest Airlines Case Study
1. Company Overview
Southwest airlines began in 1967 as a low cost, low fare, customer friendly air service shuttling
passengers between San Antonio, Dallas and Houston, Texas. Founded by Rollin King and Herb
Kelleher, Southwest moved from a small commuter transport of 18 round trip flights within Texas
to a bustling market share leader providing more domestic flights than any other airline within the
industry. Within two years of its first flight the airline was able to report profits in a trend that has
continued since 1973, despite industry downturns, economic recessions and intense rivalry attacks.

Spastic Diplegia Research Paper

Spastic Diplegia
Introduction Spastic Diplegia can briefly be described as a form of Cerebral Palsy that affects the
lower extremities. It is a neurological condition that appears early in life. I chose to do my research
over this condition because of a very special little girl in my life named Brenna. Right before
Brenna turned three years old she was officially diagnosed with Spastic Diplegia. This was a
diagnosis I had never heard of so when I began researching and found that Spastic Diplegia was a
type of Cerebral Palsy I was confused because Brenna does not portray the characteristics of other
Cerebral Palsy patients I have witnessed before. I have, since then, learned that there are different
types of Cerebral Palsy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A person with this diagnosis will see a variety of health care providers throughout their life.
Some of these may be Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Neurologists. Physical
Therapists will help each patient to learn how to be as functional as possible with their
condition. Many patients will have to walk with an assistive device or even wear a leg brace.
Gait training is very important for patients with Spastic Diplegia. Patients that are diagnosed
with Spastic Diplegia can have complete paralysis or muscle weakness in both lower
extremities. This often results in asymmetries on the right or left lower extremity. Therefore,
when a person with Spastic Diplegia walks they will repeat movements irregularly, and this can
lead to them developing secondary disabilities. 6(p1) A person with Spastic Diplegia can expect
to see a Physical Therapist on and off for their life due to the fact that physical therapy can help
them in so many different ways. Some doctors are prescribing certain medications, such as
muscle relaxers, to help with spastic muscles or even giving their patients Botox injections in the
tight muscles. This is a form of treatment that Brenna is now undergoing. The Botox shot is
injected into the tight muscles and is supposed to help these muscles be able to relax. The words
Cerebral Palsy and Spastic Diplegia can be very scary when they are used to diagnose somebody

Positive And Negative Factors Of Mood Causes In Adolescent...
Adolescents are known for being moody, impulsive and emotional. They make decisions based
on how they re feeling without thinking about any consequences. Friends are crucial at this
point in life, but the having the right friends is even more important. Peer pressure is a part of
everyday life, however it can be either good or bad. Selection of affiliation is when people select
the people they want to be around and form friendships with. Affiliation is when people gravitate
toward others with like values and interests and provide support for context for views and
behavior. Past research has shown that mood components can spread among adolescent peer
networks. These components include both positive and negative characteristics. Yet, it seems
highly more probable that negative mood can spread throughout the network and affect the
adolescent friends (Eyre, House, Hill, Griffiths, 2017). Preceding research used the same in
home interview surveys as in this study, with adolescents as their participants. A list of recorded
school friends was present and the mood of the participating individual was scored based on the
Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale. The scale was from 0 54, the higher the
number the worse the mood that was indicated. Previous studies have found a link between
mood disorders in adolescents and social support; other experiments show that emotional state of
an individual can be affected by exposure to different levels of mood (Eyre, House, Hill,
Griffiths, 2017). Over the years, researchers have found that other illnesses are spread from person
to person via social contagion. Behavior based illnesses such as obesity and smoking cessation
have been proven to have been spread among peers. Friendships form because of common interests,
dislikes and things in common. Friendships are an open path for spread of attitude toward certain
things. Both healthy and unhealthy mood spreads and even components of depression, but
depression itself does not spread. The authors had not found any evidence of consideration of
depression symptoms in previous experiments (Eyre, House, Hill, Griffiths, 2017). However, in this
study, they accounted for: anhedonia (loss of interest), poor appetite,

Descriptive Essay About Eddie Van Halen
For as long as I can remember, my dad always had his music playing. In the car, in the house,
everywhere. In time, his music became my music; and it still is. Though my dad s music taste
was vast, his staple was Van Halen. Little did I know how much that band would shape me as a
person. While most fans were in love with David Lee Roth, (the singer) I was all about Eddie Van
Halen; the greatest guitarist in the world. The greatest because to me, he isn t just a guitarist. He s
an innovator, a genius, and one of my biggest role models. While I think all art is powerful, it s all
subjective, and to me, Eddie Van Halenis the perfect example to why art is so powerful. For he has
created the passion, perseverance, and creativity that lives inside me today.
From the moment I heard the majestic scream of Eddie Van Halen s guitar, I knew I had to learn
how to play guitar. I was but only a listener at the time, but the passion of a musician budded
within me, and locked my vicarious attention on every note. The more I listened to Van Halen, the
more I wanted to stop being a listener, and start being a creator. It was like some insane urge came
over me every time I listened to them telling me to create something. It was a musical high.
I got my first guitar when I was 11 years old. (When the addiction began) Even though I wasn t
very good, each new thing I learned, pushed me to learn more. No amount of skills and knowledge
was enough, and it still isn t. The more I learned, the

Pay Gap Statement
Introduction
Outline/Description of Problem: The pay gap between men and women has become quite a topic
today. The difference in pay are very common now in many career paths where men and women
are doing the same work amount. It is rare to think that when men and women are performing the
same task and are just as qualified as each other that they would get paid the same.
Introduction to Controversy: As the wage gap is being discussed more, the question is why do men
and women have different wages when they are working the same job. While it seems that men
don t have to take as much time off from work or may work more, we have to look at it from
Women s viewpoints also.
THESIS (your answer to research question): Men and Women nurses should receive the same pay
because, they are performing the same task. However, if a Man is working a in a factory or any
other job that has them constantly lifting things and a woman works there and they can t ... Show

Support #1 (opposing viewpoint): Many people will say that women s pay is not a huge difference
to men s pay, they just make a few more cents. However, this may be true but the few cents can add
up to a few extra dollars. No one ever realizes how much just a few cents will make a difference, it
can buy you a few extra groceries, give you more gas or allow you to go see a movie on a day off.
Just because a few cents may not be a lot to you does not mean it may not be a lot to a single mom.
Explanation #1 (negation): Men and women need to both start off with the starting pay of what
their job is and as they grow at their position reward the with the pay that they deserve, not they
pay that they are given due to a study done on a handful of women. Some men may not deserve to
be paid more than a women that i working harder than he is just because he is already getting

Astrology And Greek Mythology
. Whether astrology is accepted as true has yet to be determined. For centuries, astrology has been
used to provide a deeper understanding of nature and identity.
Astrology originates from Babylon developing from the belief that the heavens ruled man s fate.
The Babylonians were the first to apply myths to constellations and astrology. The Egyptians refined
the Babylonian system of astrology and the Greeks shaped it into its modern form. It was through
studyings of Plato, Aristotle and others that Babylonian astrology was introduced to the Greeks in

St. Augustine Free Will Analysis
It s Your Choice
St. Augustine answered a question, which was, why did God give freedom of the will to men
since it is by this that men sin? His answer was, basically maybe God did not really give us
freewill for us to sin, but something bigger, such as reward and punishment. We chose to do good
or bad knowing that rewards and punishments comes from either one. God did not give freewill, but
this is something that just had to come about for being a human being is what I grasp to
understand from St. Augustine. I agree with St. Augustine because even though we may have
come from God, it is still a choice to do good or bad. Evodius was saying what if God had not
made it where we could chose to sin, what he failed to understand is that we would still have to
choose to do good, even if that is the only choice. In this paper I will give supporting facts on
how St. Augustine answered the question and understanding on how I agree with what he said.
In Introducing Philosophy St. Augustine said, I want to ask, as well: do you know this clearly,
or do you believe it willingly without really knowing it, because you ae prompted by authority.

Mission Command s Framework Of Balancing Command And Control
Mission Command Writing Assignment
Mission command is the Army s framework of balancing command and control though unified
land operations. Mission command sets the foundation of control and applies to all levels of
leadership throughout Army. Mission command allows commanders to utilize mission orders to
give direction to subordinates. Ultimately, it empowers leaders to be adaptive in the face of an
ever complex and changing world. Mission command has a foundation based on trust,
understanding and a shared purpose. Effective commanders use six principals of mission command
to influence situations while developing trust and a shared understanding. These principals are
building teams through trust, creating shared understanding, providing a clear commanders intent,
exercising disciplined initiative, use mission orders, and accept prudent risk. I will be using them
as tools during my time as a leader. In this essay, I will briefly describe what each principal is and
how it will affect me as a new junior lieutenant. Trust is the foundation of the Profession of Arms.
Commanders must build cohesive teams through mutual trust. Commanders need to focus on
creating an environment where mutual trust can flourish and this can be very challenging. Since
comes from people, there are really no shortcuts, trust takes time to build. As a new lieutenant,
time will be an incredibly value resource. Time is finite and since we operate in a complex world,

The Minister s Black Veil And The Fall Of The House Of...
Both of the short stories The Minister s Black Veil, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, and The Fall of the
House of Usher, by Edgar Allan Poe, deal with the theme of the evil of human nature. However,
Hawthorne presents all of human nature as naturally tending towards evil, whereas Poe only
portrays certain types of evil, such as the ability for mankind to be incestuous out of prideful,
arrogant desires. In The Minister s Black Veil, Mr. Hooper, the village minister, begins daily
wearing a black veil for mysterious reasons. While a veil typically symbolizes mourning and
sorrow, the villagers saw the veil as representing so much more though they were unsure of what.
The veil both terrifies the villagers and makes them feel drawn to Mr. Hooper. As the story
progresses, we learn that Mr. Hooper used the veil to symbolize the evil natures that all human
beings try to hide. We first see the connection between the veil and evil when we learn, while
wearing the veil, Mr. Hooper became very effective in being able to convert sinners to Christianity.
Sinners felt drawn to him because they felt some sort of connection between themselves and the
veil. As the narrator explains, sinners said they felt that before he brought them to celestial light,
they had been with him behind the veil. In addition to being able to strongly influence Christian
converts, those who were dying felt drawn to him and cried aloud for Mr. Hooper, and would not
yield their breath till he appeared. We later

Gold Nuggest in Gold Rush California
Gold Nuggets in Gold Rush California It was day of Jan 24th 1948, James Marshall was
building a new sawmill for John Sutter in South Fork of American river near Coloma valley. He
spotted some flecks of shiny pebbles. His eyes sparkled when he discovered that it was gold.
Gold! Gold! Gold! Listen folks, it is not just a hoax! Get rich and get relaxed in the goldfields of
California. You could be another millionaire like Sam Brannan! Everyone from around the world
is welcomed to flock to California. It is never late to head start your voyage to the Golden state.
This is the right time to make your dreams come true. Modes of Transportation By Land The
land route is across the Great Plains along the Oregon Trail or across the continental United
States, mainly along the California trail. You can come by wagon or come by foot. By wagon,
oxen and mules, you have to cross deserts, mountains, and valleys. The advantage is that you can
carry your clothes, food for long journey, tools for mining and farming, and items for cooking.
You You will have a great adventure! Coming by foot is long but if you need fitness then this is
your call! By Sea There are two water routes to California. A 17,000 mile route around the South
America and Cape Horn took 5 to 7 months. The second and faster route is to take a steamer to
Panama, along a narrow isthmus to the Pacific, and then take another steamer to San Francisco.

Development As Freedom Summary
Sen outlines two different approaches to development policies: the GNP/capital approach, which
measures development through GNP and income levels, and the capability approach, which focuses
on development through the expansion of freedoms. Given that his book is titled Development as
Freedom , he is clear proponent of the latter approach. He offers a critique of the former, both
factually and normatively.
In his factual critique of policies that focus purely on GNP/human capital, he argues that capital is
not an all encompassing yardstick with which to measure development. While capital and
capabilities are closely linked, Sen believes that the capital approach focuses predominantly on
human beings and their ability to increase production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He paraphrases Adam Smith in saying that to see humans only in terms of their productive use is
to slight the nature of humanity , a bold declaration that humans are not just means of production
but ends in themselves (296). Early in chapter twelve, he makes the argument that the basic
concern in assessing growth and development should be with the expansion of our capability to
lead the kind of lives we have reason to value (285). This means we ought to value to everything
from the opportunity to find meaningful employment, to the opportunity to live in a safe, peaceful
area. These are clearly non capital variables; while income is good measure of someone s
capability to buy goods/services, it doesn t indicate their opportunity to live a long, worthwhile life,
which Sen proposes we should care about as much as, if not more than just economic growth.
Finally, in what is his strongest argument for focusing on freedoms instead of capital, Sen argues
that capabilities have an intrinsic value, rather than just an instrumental value (292). Where income
and capital are resources that improve people s choices, they are a means to development, not an
end; therefore, we ought to value capabilities instrumentally and intrinsically, and use them as our
yardstick for measuring

My Favorite Creative Element Is Imagery
Writers are undoubtedly the connoisseurs of the linguistic world. The amazing thing about the
written word is that it has no conviction; every literate human being has the same tools at their
disposal and yet no two writers ever have the same flavor. I was fortunate enough to have
recognized this at a young age. I immersed myself in all aspects of the written word: lyrics, poetry,
fiction, nonfiction, etc. What has always excited me as a writer is my appreciation for the power
that words can have on people. From Stephen King to Stephen Biko, every great writer that I have
come across has further entrenched me in my passion for writing. My favorite creative element is
imagery, thus my aspirations to write for film and television. Working... Show more content on

My favorite/least favorite passage was the following: (the only reason it is both is because the

Online Shopping And Traditional Shopping
Shopping can be enjoyable for some people; however, it can also be a burden for others. The
preference of the shopper really determines whether or not they have a pleasant experience and the
time to look for their items. There are many similarities as well as differences with online shopping
and traditional shopping. The main factors that I will be discussing are convenience, discounts and
item availability.
Convenience is really a significant factor with both types of shopping. As of the 2011 Time
Survey, the average American spends about 43.2 minutes per day shopping, which is down from
48.6 minutes per day in 2003. (Hines, 2012) Online shopping is convenient for purchasing items at
the click of the mouse. Although online empires, such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both shopping methods offer convenience in different ways that is solely at the preference of the
individual consumer.
Discounts are offered by both online and traditional shopping. Cyber Monday is vastly
becoming as popular as Black Friday, and for some, more popular. The world of retail has
certainly raised their game with regard to discounts and sales on merchandise, both online and
traditional, to attract customers. Retail centers will offer discounts to a certain number of
customers first to arrive. Many online sellers will offer free shipping in addition to sales and
discounts to compete. A consumer can save a considerable amount of money by researching an
item they want to purchase to obtain the best deal. In addition, online sellers feature lower prices
because they do not have the overhead costs such as rent, utilities and sales people. In comparison,
retail centers will slash prices to compete against online retailers. Another savings with online
shopping is that a consumer might not have to pay sales tax based on their residency. (Torres,
2017) Coupons and gift cards can be applied with either method of shopping allowing further
discounts off regular priced items.
Item availability is significant for online shopping. There is no shortage of shelf space when you
shop online. Another factor to consider is when a consumer is looking for an old or unique item,
they can just google it and purchase it. As such, a consumer spends less time

Dante s Hell In The Inferno
It is very interesting to me how so many individuals are able to have such extensive and varied
definitions of what they believe is right verse wrong. It is obvious that society throughout the
years has had a wide spectrum of what we believe is sin and what is not. These different lenses
can be altered by several factors such as how a person was raised, their culture, and also their
personal religious beliefs. It is essential that we learn to not understand others perspective but to
also respect their perspectives as well. The structure of Dante s Hellin the Infernois very complex

Athens Under Solon Essay
When the city of Athens stood on the brink of revolution, the citizens of Athens looked upon
Solon and gave him the task of creating new laws for them because of troubles that had been
plaguing them for a long time. They saw that he more than anyone else in city, stood apart from
the injustices of the time and was involved neither in the extortions of the rich nor the privations of
the poor (Plutarch 55, Par 1). In this paper I will be writing of changes that took effect under Solon
and whether those changes resolved the conflicts that brought Athenson the brink of revolution.
First, I will be writing about the conflict over land ownership and slavery between aristocrats and
common people, who appointed Solon as reconciler and archon... Show more content on

They wanted Solon to redistribute the land which he did not do, but instead he made Olive oil
the only product of Athens allowed to be exported. So if there was anything extra leftover from
the farms of aristocrats, they had no choice but to give to starving poor and Hill peasants. If
anyone were to export anything but oil be punished by archon or should pay fine to the public
treasury (Plutarch 66, Par 3). After making Attica a great and secure place to live, he realized
that the city was filling up with people in a steady stream from everywhere in Greek; at the same
time he realized that most of the country was still poor and unproductive, and people elsewhere
are not in the habit of sending their goods to those who have nothing to offer in exchange. He
therefore encouraged the sharecroppers to turn to the arts and crafts of manufacture and made a
law that no son was obliged to support his father unless the father first taught the son a trade of
some kind (Plutarch 64, Par 2).
At first, the changes Solon made did not please either party. The rich were angry because of
being deprived of their securities and losing out on their property and the poor even more so,
because Solon did not carry out a redistribution of the land as they had expected him to do
(Plutarch 58, Par 2). However, it was not long before they realized that what Solon had done was
great and saw the advantages of his policy. Athenians were so happy that they went on to appoint

Andy s Gift Essay
Andy s Gift
No matter who you are, the world won t stop existing if you disappear. Your beloved ones will
just learn to live without you. Andy s Gift , written by Michel Faber in 2001, tells a story about
how hard it can be to return to normality, when you ve been cut off from the outside world for so
long. The world is constantly changing and if you re not there, it s just too bad, the lives of
everyone else s will continue. That is what happens for the protagonist Andrew. Occasionally he d
peek out at the world, and for his peek hole he d use the shrieking idiot the nursing staff called

For 5 years, Andrew has been trapped in the body of a shrieking idiot called Andy. Finally, a
miracle happens and he breaks free. He gets to be Andrew again, but there s a problem. His wife
has changed, she is no longer the woman he married, his oldest son doesn t seem excited about his
return and his two youngest kids think the madman Andy, is better at howling.
In the beginning, the story takes place at a nursing home. Andrew wakes up in an institutional
pyjama and is greeted by an old man, who s sitting in the bed right next to him.
When Andrew answers back, it is to the old man s surprise. Ha! Good for you, Andy boy! said his

The Newest Technology in Law Enforcement Essay
The license plate reader, LPR is a mobile plate hunter that comprises of a camera(s) placed on the
outside of a squad car that is then connected to a computer database inside the squad car. The
plate hunter has the capacity to recognize the character on a number plate and rapidly relay the
information to the database computer that would verify of the owner or the automobile has any
record or if the vehicle has been reported stolen/missing. This ability is even possible when the
squad car is moving at 75 mph and can check up to 3, 000 number plates within an hour. Any
offending incidence is brought to the attention of the officers by a siren or alarm the computer

The system has been criticized as a breach into privacy and the first amendment as well as taking
surveillance a notch higher than permissible. Law enforcers on the other hand have argued that
the license plate reader is not discriminative and does not choose which license plate to read and
raise alarm; it is not discretionary, it reads all the plates. (Beyerlein 2009)
The license plate reader is also looks after the well being of an officer in that after picking up a
dangerous criminal, an officer will seek back up or will know how to approach such a situation
rather than where an officer flags down a suspect not knowing how dangerous the criminal is.
(Hanlon 2007) Just like the license plate reader, civil societies are worried about the instant
identification finger printing method employed by law enforcers in nabbing offenders. The gadget

have obtained from a suspect enables the officers to pick any data and history on the subject from
name, date of birth, social security number any other details about the person. The Florida
Department of Law Enforcement, FDLE, has employed the use of the new technology going by
the name of FALCON to assist in the criminal identification process. The system is able to compare
the partial and palm prints obtained from a crime scene to the fingerprints in the data bank.

The Paradox Of Success Research Paper
Another discipline that widely displays the paradox of finding success through failure is science.
In science there have been many great success stories, where scientists have achieved their success
through failure. An example of this is Thomas Edison, who experienced many setbacks in life but
did not let that stop him from reaching his goals. Thomas Edison was one of the most productive
inventors in American history. With 1,093 U.S. patents and more in the United Kingdom, France,
and Germany, no other inventor has come close to Edison s output (Edison, 2007). His resiliency is
what led to him finally getting it right. On his failed attempts, Edison said,

Interestingly enough, Thomas Edison who also struggled with setbacks, was a close friend of
Henry Ford and urged him to pursue his dreams of manufacturing cars. Edison s past experience
allowed him to be able to give him this sound advice. It wasn t always easy for Ford, who grew
up knowing that an individual could get ahead in the world by working hard. But social or
economic conditions were not an excuse, (Ford, 2003). He worked very hard, despite his economic
status to become the success that he was and still is today. His work ethic and mindset are what
pushed him to keep going, even when things were not going his way. He stated, You can do
anything if you have enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes rise to the
stars, (Ford, 2003). I really like this metaphor of success, because it is completely true. If we are
able to have enthusiasm towards what we are trying to accomplish, we will be more likely to
reach it. This is similar to what a wise professor of mine says, If your not having fun, you re not
learning. Which goes hand in hand with success as well, because if you are not enjoying what you
are doing than you will not have any motivation to

Who Invented The Atomic Bomb
Throughout all of history, humans have been creating weapons for waging war against one and
another or to protect something that is important to them. Over time, the weapons that humans use
have gone from just a simple wooden club, to a forged sword, and to high power firearms.
However, throughout history none of the weapons created led to a stalemate among any of the
world s super powers until the mid twentieth century with the development of the atomic bomb by
the United Statesand the Soviet Union. The reason why the development of the atomic bomb led to
a stalemate has to do with the idea of mutually assured destruction. The idea behind mutually
assured destruction is that if one country attacks with atomic weapons then the country being...

There are several types of atomic bombs and the types changed based on how the bomb will
achieve critical mass. The first type of an atomic bomb would be the gun type fission bomb which
was drop on the city of Hiroshima during World WarII. Scientists and the military believed that
the gun type bomb was so reliable that they did not test it before dropping it on the city of
Hiroshima. The gun type bomb contained two piece of uranium at both ends of a barrel, and
when the two piece of uranium are brought together it creates a chain reaction leading it to reach
supercritical mass. [5] The second type of an atomic bomb would be the implosion fission bomb
which was drop on the city of Nagasaki and tested during the project Trinity. The implosion type
bomb contained a neutron core, a plutonium pit, a uranium tamper, and a layer of burning
explosive. [5] Therefore, when the neutron core is crushed it releases neutrons into the plutonium
pit which creates a chain reaction leading it to reach supercritical mass. [5] The third type of an
atomic bomb would be the boosted fission bomb which was tested during Operation Greenhouse.
The boosted fusion bomb utilized the same layer system from the implosion bomb, but in the
fissile core a small amount of deuterium/tritium gas is added to cause the boost in blast yield. [5]

The Dangerous Effects of Chemical Warfare in World War One
Upon the battlefield of World War One, soldiers huddle in trenches, faces veiled behind gas
masks. These bulky facial coverings were designed to protect the soldiers from deadly gases used
by the enemy. The use of chemical agents in World War One led to the need for the production of
better protection from the deadly effects of the agents. Chlorinegas could be dropped from
cylinders above the victims, its high density causing it to flow downwards onto its unsuspecting
foe (Fire 121). Also, the British Authorities struggled to decide whether or not to approve the use
of gas for offensive use, and whether a large scale chemical war was something to be avoided at
all costs (Girard 107). The gas masks worn by soldiers increased their discomfort and made it
hard to move around, instilling a sense of panic in them when a gas raid was underway (Fire
121). The French were the first to fire asphyxiating gas shells from field guns and pioneered the
use of gas as a neutralization weapon (Krause 553). The psychological damage of gas attacks on
soldiers was mainly because of the horror of seeing their unprepared comrades suffocating and
screaming in agony from burns inflicted by mustard gas (Fitzgerald 611). Animals were used in
the World War, horses for transport, pigeons for contact, and dogs for protection and defense
(Walk). Obviously, there would have to be modified gas masks for the animals on the battle field

Fracking Technology On Extraction Of Shale Gas And Oil Essay
Fracking technology. What are the environmental and health issues related to fracking technology
on extraction of shale gas and oil?
Unconventional gas and oil extraction process known as hydraulic fracturing, hydrofracking or
fracking is a technique used to extract shale gas and oil, on which high pressure fluid is injected,
mainly water, containing sand, chemicals or other granular materials which are pumped with a
fluid medium under pressure into rock, so that fractures formed in this process are held open when
the pressure is released, allowing oil or gas to flow more freely suspended, with the aid of
thickening agents.
Once that unconventional gas and oil extraction (fracking) has becoming widespread practice and a
concern in some countries, particularly in the United States of America (USA), relatively about
potential environmental risks and human health outcome, as well as potential routes of human
vulnerability, has been the focus of several studies by social researchers, health and environmental
scientists, and epidemiologists. This essay will present and analyse the challenges imposed by
hydraulic fracturing to extract oil and shale gas, particularly related with environmental and health
issues.
Hydrofracking began in 1947 as an application in the USA and was followed in 1950 by the first
commercially successful application. Although, only recently (in 2007 the method was first used

In this lab we are measuring the amount of oxygen used in both germinating and non germinating
peas. We are measuring the oxygen consumption by taking a reading of a respirometer submerged
in two water baths. The first bath will be cold water and the second warm to determine the effect
of temperatures on oxygen consumption. Our negative control will be glass beads to measure to

Added to the respirometers will be KOH(potassium hydroxide) to selectively remove any carbon
dioxide produced with the consumption of oxygen. The three respirometers will be submerged in
each bath and allowed to equilibrate. After the equilibration period the respirometers are submerged
in the baths taking reading at 5 minute intervals, recording the amount of oxygen consumed in ml
on the pipette attached to each respirometer.
III. Results/Presentation of Data
Our data recorded shows that the germinating peas did consume more oxygen than the non
germinating or the glass beads alone and that the cooler temperature did slow down the
consumption of oxygen in the germinating peas. In both water baths the atmospheric pressure
seemed to increase causing our reading to raise in our glass beads and non germinating peas. This
direct relationship in reading leads us to believe that the oxygen consumption in the non
germinating peas was minimal if any at all.

Revolution and Prostitution I am Cuba and The Rehabilitation of Prostitutes present the figure of
the prostitute as a representation of Cuba s degraded condition in relation to the United States. The
Revolution was interested in the rehabilitation of prostitutes as a metaphor for the rehabilitation of
Cuba. I Am Cuba explains the need for revolution in Cuba. The film captures the political
oppression and the large disparity in wealth and power experienced by the people under the
dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista prior to the Revolution. In one scene, it portrays the foreign
contribution to the prostitution and poverty epidemic in Havana. The American tourists degrade
and dehumanize the prostitutes; the men consider the prostitutes to be something on the side after
their drink orders, and they refer to them as tasty morsel and dish. However, one of the American
tourists announces that [he d] like to see where these women live, and a prostitute named Maria
reluctantly agrees to take the man to see her home. Here, the man encounters her poor and dismal
living conditions. Her home is merely a shack. The mistreatment and abuse by American tourists on
the Cuban people created lives consumed by suffering and destitution. The Rehabilitation of
Prostitutes provides a moral perception of the efforts made by the Revolution to decrease
prostitution. According to The

geniuses are ridiculed prior to demonstrated success. For instance, the press doubted that

Just know that if you have an idea which goes against conventional thinking, expect people to put

that you are going to develop an online business in which you will give everything away for free.

Henry And Bronfenbrenner Essay
Kelly (1994) and Henry and Rickman (2007) apply similar conceptual frameworks of concentric
circles based on the ecological theory of Bronfenbrenner. Despite different research questions,
participants, methods, these two research projects are built on the same theoretical assumption that
human behaviors and the consequences of their behaviors are the outcomes of human interactions
with their own context. According to Bronfenbrenner s theory, each person is located in the core
circle entitled microsystems which often includes that person s family, school, peers, etc. Outside
the microsystem is the mesosystems where the interactions of related people in the microsystem
conduct with each other. In the next layer, exosystems, there are boarder communities that the
person lives in, for example, her/his neighborhood, the health care system, and so on.
Macrosystems which are the outer layer, refer to high level structures such as culture and
subcultures, economic systems.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to the primary interest in peer effects, which are embedded in the microsystems, Henry
and Rickman (2007) also measure potential factors from different circles. Also locating in the
microsystems, child characteristics, such as previous score, gender, race, and family characteristics,
such as income, education obtainment, and so on, are measured. In the larger layers, the
researchers examine the influence of program type and school inputs on children s skill test
outcomes. It appears that in this study and others on children s development, researchers often
focus on the microsystems and mesosystems while outer layers are rarely mentioned ( Handout:

Motorcycle Helmet Law Debate
The 40 Year Debate; Are Mandatory Universal Motorcycle Helmet Laws Right or Wrong? Across
the United States, every year millions of license drivers choose to ride motorcycles rather than
drive automobiles for a variety of reasons; Reasons range from individual pleasure to a much more
cost effective way to travel. The universal motorcyclehelmet law debate over the past forty years
has revolved around whether the federal government should adopt a universal helmet law that
mandates all motorcyclists to wear helmets at all times when riding to reduce societies economic
cost, or whether the individual rider should have the right to choose rather to wear or not wear a
helmet. In 1967, nearly all States implemented a mandatory... Show more content on

Then, By 1975, 47 states and the District of Columbia had adopted universal helmet laws. This
trend reversed dramatically in the latter half of 1975 when Congress acquiesced to the pressure
exerted by groups such as ABATE, and amended the Act to remove the contingency of federal
highway funds on universal helmet laws. The amendment led to the repeal of universal coverage in
27 states shortly thereafter (Derrick, Allison J., and Lee D. Faucher 229). Between 1989 and 1994,
Congress once again began to try and influence the States to mandate a universal motorcycle helmet
law by implementing the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991, also known as
ISTEA.
ISTEA provided special incentive grants to states with both universal motorcycle helmet laws
and passenger vehicle safety belt use laws. A state qualified for a first year grant by having these
two laws in effect. In subsequent years, the state also was required to exceed minimum
motorcycle helmet and safety belt use levels (helmet use of 75 percent in the second year and 85
percent in the third year). Twenty three states and the District of Columbia received grants for one
or more of the fiscal years 1992, 1993, and 1994 for which the grants were authorized (R.G. Ulmer
and D.F. Preusser 5).
The ISTEA Act was much more effect on the universal safety belt law rather than the universal
helmet laws; States were more successful in

The Avery Family
The Avery family can be much considered as an outcasts among their community of Manitowoc
County. The family started to obtain a label. Some might say that they were trouble or bad news
. Steven Avery was a kind person. Everyone knew he was harmless. He was always smiling and
always trying to make someone laugh. Even if he was a good soul the actions of his family
members put a permanent label on him. Some might look and say, Oh he s one of the Avery s .
The Avery s owned an auto salvage yard which was strange. Most people in Manitowoc were
farmers and many saw the Avery s as working with junk. The Avery s were their own people.
They didn t dress like everyone else and definitely didn t have the same education as everyone else.

The Avery s finally had help from the innocence project which is a foundation to help set
innocent people free. He went through the files and all evidence to find that finger nail
scrapings were never taken for DNA. Since technology wasn t really up to date back then,
detectives never really bothered going to DNA labs. The Avery s lawyers sent out the scrapings
to get tested. Forensics found 13 pubic hairs. Eleven of those hairs had no root and one belonged
to penny so the one that was left held all the answers. Both penny and Steven have the same
alleles. Every person has two alleles but the lab found a third which did not match theirs. This was

Early American Colonies During The 18th Century
While the early American colonies struggled to move forward during the late 17th and early
18th century due to political disagreements over matters such as slavery, it was the seed of hope
planted by the unity of different races that motivated the young country to change its ways for
the betterment of its citizens, economy, and overall state of stability. At our nations lowest and
darkest time, it was slavery that not only was the culprit for the separation of the young colonies
from each other, but also the formula needed to unite the people who made up these states for
the betterment of society. It was these bold acts from people of all ages and sizes only separated
by different skin colors that powered our beloved country through a Civil War into an era of peace
and prosperity. It was Woodrow T. Wilson who once said, We cannot be

One way that white and black Americans united for a common good was through the creation and
running of the Underground Railroad. The Underground Railroad would not have been possible
by only one ethnic group, but the combination of both black and white workers made this series
of hidden trails to freedom nearly infeasible to infiltrate. Personally, this example of unity for the
common good is my favorite throughout the entire history of America because of the unselfishness
and bravery both sides sacrificed for each other to create a fair and equal society like our founding
fathers designed our nation to be like. Both the black and white Americans needed and depended on
each other for this ingenious plan to work. It was the belief of freedom and equality that brought
these two sides together, and it was the fight against injustice that strengthened their bond and
captivated the hearts and minds of others to join. Another great example of white and black unity
during the time of slavery and social injustice was the great Abolitionist

The Effect Of Priming Effect On The Dual Process Essay
Indeed, there are any other factors that affect the dual process, whether these improve or reduce
the performances, for example, repetition helps to improve the familiarity related task (Henson, et
al., 1999). Besides, encoding the information into the deepest level will create a successful way
for recollection, but it requires a long time to occur it (Rugg Curran, 2007, Craik Tulving, 1975).
What is more, priming effect is a phenomenon in which exposure to a word or concept later makes
it easier to recall related information and make it faster the memoryprocess (Eysenck Keane 2000;
Rugg, et al., 1995; Paller, et al., 2007). At the same time, it has been mention that the priming
effect is under the category of implicit memory (unconscious) which is not controlled by earlier
experiences (Paller Kutas, 1992; Paller, et al., 2007). Additionally, both familiarity and the
priming effect have the same result, because they based on the know judgment (Voss Paller,
2006; Curran, et al., 2006). Moreover, priming effect is related to the frontal lobe which keeps the
past memories (Dew Cabeza, 2011; Eysenck Keane 2000; Curran, et al., 2006). It can be said that
old/new effect is the reflection of familiarity and recollection process, and these can be better with
some strategies.
Declarative memory or explicit memory is the type of long term memory, and it needs an effort to
bring out the information consciously (Squire Zola, 1998). The declarative memory contains

Pat Tillm Compare Contrast And Pat Tillman
It is only right that we honor the true heroes of this county, the men women who truly deserve the
credit, the headlines and the recognition. That is why it is such an honor to carry this flag onto the
field, to wear the camouflage gear, to visit with military members and take trips like the USO tour,
a quote from J.J. Watt, a NFL linemen for the Houston Texans.
Pat Tillman was a determined man. He didn t stop. He surpassed his limit. He crossed the line
that people said he couldn t cross. He wanted to prove people wrong. He didn t let people tell him
what to do with his life. His determination led him to be brave and join the military. Tillman was

Adolescence Is A Life Changing Event For Males And Females
Puberty in essence is a life changing event for males and females, typically following a time of
significant physical growth. Puberty is the stage in life when secondary sex characteristics are
developing, sexual organs mature due to production of sex hormones. This naturally occurs during
adolescence, the stage in life between childhood and adulthood. Nonetheless, Feldman (2014)
points out the fact that physical changes begin earlier for girls typically at the age of 10, with
sexual organ development generally around the ages of 11 12. On the other hand, physical
changes for boys, frequently occurs later, around the age of 12, with development of sexual organs
around the age of 13 14. Nevertheless there has been a trend towards early maturation of both male
and females, this can bring about advantages and disadvantages for both sexes (Feldman, 2014).
This author will discuss the pros and cons of early versus late maturation in boys versus girls in
21st century U.S. society as well as how media reinforces maturation for pre teens and teens.
It is not clear why adolescence starts at a specific time. What is clear is that natural and social
elements assume a part. This trend towards early maturation is believed to be a result of improved
nutritional intake and a reduced amount of illness over the past century (Feldman, 2014).
Additional factors that can influence early maturation in girls, according to Feldman (2014), would
be the percentage of fat to muscle, moreover the

A chemical change is a change that alters the identity of a substance. A chemical change can be
identified by five things: change in mass, formation of a precipitate, release of heat and/or light,
color change, or giving off gas. Physical changes occurred in four out of the eight experiments
completed in this lab. The first was experiment one, the salt and water. The salt was added to
water but when the water evaporated the salt remained. The water changed to the vapor form of
water and the salt did not change. The second was experiment two, the candle. When the candle
was lit the heat given off from the fire melted the wax beneath it. Melting is a physical change
because the liquid wax is still wax, its usual form is just a solid. Experiment four dealt with
ripping paper. This was a physical change because, although the paper was being ripped apart, it
was (and still is) paper. The smaller pieces did not change the mass or any other factor of it except
the surface area of each piece. Experiment seven dealt with vinegar being added to milk. The
vinegar did not change but the milk was curdled by the vinegar. Although the milk was curdled, the
milk remained milk. The composition stayed the same. Each of these experiments showed no
change in a substance so as it changed to another substance. Chemical changes occurred in five out
of the eight experiments completed in this lab. Although the main focus of experiment two was

Exercise and Depression
The purpose of the trial was to see the effects of exercise on depression and neuroendocrine stress
hormones such as urinary cortisol and epinephrine. The study consisted of two hundred sixty six
volunteers who were students of a nursing school in Thailand. All the individuals went through a
screening test, CES D, which was a self report test in which they would rank common symptoms
of depression to determine if they fall within the range of mild to severe. Forty nine volunteers
were chosen and split into two groups : group A (participating in a physical exerciseprogram for

Since it is a topic that lately has been of hot debate on the news and articles found within the
internet, in the future I would spread this study to different ranges of groups such as adolescent
males, adult men and females and even children that are younger than adolescents because
depression is not found within just one specific age group. I would do this so the study can
highlight more of how exercise affects depression within a typical population. As well I would
split the participants of a future study into more than two groups, around possibly four in total.
By adding two more groups of different exercise intensities, this can help us predict if higher
levels of exercise intensity make a bigger difference or be less beneficial compared to the normal
physical exercise program that was conducted over a 8 week time frame originally. I would
continue to keep the control group in order to have it be used as a comparison. My big question
next would be, Are there any other variables that would be as or more helpful to combat depression
instead of

The Construction Of The Patoka Reservoir
In the 1960s, for the folks in and around Ellsworth, [Indiana,] living life decades behind the time
was just the way it was. Manpower over technology. The comfort of tradition over the anxiety of
change, stated Jason Recker, a journalist for The Herald. Patoka Reservoir, an economic center for
recreation and flood control, encompasses 8,800 acres of land. Before its construction, a thriving
community inhabited the fertile terrain along the Patoka River. Towns of this former neighborhood
included Elon, Newton Stewart, and Ellsworth. (Recker 1) Families lived their everyday lives as
farmers, with an occasional visit from a local peddler. One day, though, a new kind of visit altered
their peaceful ways. A government sent official arrived... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example, Ellsworth Road, still leads all the way up to Patoka Reservoir s edge today. (Kreitzer
66) These roads also articulated an abundance of inhabitants and their cultural mannerisms.
James Marvin Ellis, born June 30, 1842, sparked the foundation of Ellsworth. Although Ellis did
not receive a sufficient education as a child, at the age of thirty two he both cultivated one
hundred sixty acres of farmland and managed a general store. (History 759) Not only did Ellis
publicly exert himself, but his private life prospered as well. Ellis and his wife, Mary A. Beaty,
brought forth seven children to the local population: Marvin U., Hester J., Elliot E., Thomas G.,
Joseph A., and Lotta A. (Ellis 1). In addition to agriculture, family, and merchandising, he also
served as the town s original postmaster (History 760). This holds importance because a post office
provided a town s first official identification (Kreitzer 65). Ellis societal involvement ventured much
further than the town of Ellsworth, though. At the age of nineteen, Ellis enlisted in the Civil War.
He served in Company A , Forty Ninth IndianaVolunteers, beginning on September 25, 1861. For
two and a half years, Ellis fought in many battles until harshly wounded at Champion Hill in mid
1863. Although he would suffer from these wounds for the rest of his life, Ellis readmitted himself
to military service in early 1864. He fought until the conclusion of the war a year later. (History

Eliminating Religion from Daily Life with the...
During the revolutionary era in France, in which the National Convention took control of
revolutionary France, a new calendar was adopted. This revolutionary calendar was implemented
in November of 1793, in an attempt to replace the Gregorian calendar completely. The National
Convention adopted a new calendar in France at the time of a revolution in an attempt to increase
the number of work days on peasants and reduce the influence of Christianity throughout the
country; however most of the general public as well as government officials reacted negatively.
One major reason as of why the revolutionary calendar was put into effect was in order to eliminate
religion from daily life. The traditional Gregorian calendarwas originally... Show more content on

However because this article was written under Napoleon I, and from the perspective of people
who did not agree with the calendar the article may be very biased. Another reason for the
adoption of a new calendar is that the government did not want religion to determine the lives of
the French people. According to Pierre Joseph, the Jacobins were attempting to rid France of
religion and the old order by replacing it with Deism (Document eight). With the incorporation
of deism into everyday life people could focus more on reason, being less influenced by religion.
However, because Pierre Joseph was a Girondin he was very opposed to the views of the
Jocobins, so of course he believed the removal of religion from French society to have negative
impacts. Less religious aspects in everyday life would allow the French people to be more
productive by reducing their time to worship, in turn giving them more time to work. The
revolutionary calendar sought out to improving productivity among the peasantry. The National
Convention stated that the Gregorian calendar had too many religious holidays. One of the
complaints in the Cahier de Doleances included the limitation on the number of religious holidays
so that the so called great people were no longer a disadvantage to the state (Document one). In
order to make the French people more productive there needed to be a reduction in the

Economic Impacts Of Immigrants In Canada
Each year, the number of immigrants based in Canada continues to exponentially grow. According
to statistics, it is estimated that immigrants will represent Canada s total population by 30% in 2036
(Grenier, 2017). Many of these immigrants will become the foundation and cornerstone for Canada
to prosper and become a booming country. Through the years, the positive impacts of immigrants in
the economy of Canadais seen through the economic benefits of businessclass immigrants, skilled
workers, and its effects to the labour workforce. Firstly, business class immigrants in Canada
benefits the economy. This is because of many entrepreneurs starting a business. According to
Grenier, business ownership rates are higher for immigrants who have been in Canada for more
than 10 years, as opposed to its Canadian born counterparts (2017). This is a positive impact on
Canada s economy because foreign entrepreneurs who start businesses also create a way for more
jobs and less unemployed citizens. More jobs because newly opened businesses will need workers.
This declines the rate of unemployed citizens because it provides one an opportunity to land a job.
Also, businessmen with a successful experience in business from abroad can help Canada expand
its marketing assets. Based on studies, Successful conducting business abroad can replicate these
achievements in Canada and thus make major economic contributions (Costigan, 2016). This
provides benefits to Canada s economy because foreign

  • 2. Nefertiti Research Paper For over a decade Nefertiti, wife of the Pharaoh Akhenaten originally known as Amenhotep IV, was an influential woman in the Bronze Age. Her image and name were renowned throughout Upper and Lower Egypt. Suddenly, after the end of the reign of Akhenaten, Nefertiti disappeared from the royal family, vanishing so completely that it was as if she had never been. No known record survives to detail her death; no found monument serves to represent the mourning of her death. To this day her expiration remains a conundrum. She was the beloved wife of heretic king Akhenaten, who defied customs by practicing monotheism and by elevating Nefertiti far above the role of subservient consort. Her image has enraptured viewers ever since a limestone bust unearthed in modern day Amarna went on display in Berlin in 1924. But few facts are proven about this woman. As Akhenaten dismissed the plethora of old gods, distressing many of his subjects, he had a strong female figure in Nefertiti to ease the supernatural rigorousness of Aten, the sun deity. His chief consort s semblance was celebrated in official art and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her name means the beautiful one has come. Her origins and much about her life are unclear. Her alleged mother or stepmother, Tiy, was also described as her nurse and governess. Her presumed father was Ay, as a scribe and keeper of the king s, Amenhotep III, records. Perhaps his standing made it possible for Nefertiti to secure an entrance to the court and to become friendly with the king s eldest son, Amenhotep IV. Taking into consideration her father s advanced aspirations, at age eleven Nefertiti already appeared to have been groomed to be queen. It is recognized that she lived her earlier years in the palace at Thebes. After the young King Amenhotep IV ascended the throne at about age fourteen on his father s death, he married ... As I review the chapters, and think about the process that would be best to measure employee talent, I believe that my favorite would be the 360 performance management process. So I will employ this one to measure employee talent for this assignment. It is known for providing critical on going feedback to maximize performance in organizations. The on going feedback helps everyone maximize their performance and in turn maximizes the organizations performance. It allows for quick corrective action when things start to go off the rails, so managers and employees can address any issues while they are still small. While ideally managers and ... The next key concept after the employee has been placed in the talent pool, is to establish a planned development program which share and teaches them the business knowledge and well as professionalism, teamwork and leadership development. Another key concept is the increase of retention of employees identified in the various pools. One of the first key concepts of talent management for this for profit organization is to develop talent and identify functional areas is linked to the business strategy. After you review the business strategy to ensure linked to the functional areas, you identify the focus areas. Next you identify and define the organizational capabilities, then define key leaders. Assess and define individual functional standards. Then identify and build talent systems components, and then measure impact and effectiveness. To help achieve these steps mentioned above you must implement a structured selection process. Develop a career development program that also assesses talent. Implement formal learning and developing programs. Merge functional competencies integrated with the performance management systems; measure and assess your outcomes and then reward and recognize employees that have excelled in the programs. REVIEW OF LITERATURE The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Biosynthesis of glycyrrhizin is not fully elucidated at gene level. The early stages of triterpenoid saponin biosynthesis via isoprenoid pathway involve the dimerization of two molecules of farnesyl diphosphate catalyzed by squalene synthase, epoxidase mediated oxidation then produces 2,3 oxidosqualene. The first diversifying step in triterpenoid biosynthesis is the cyclization of 2,3 oxidosqualene a common substrate of oxidosqualene cyclases (OSCs) and a precursor of both triterpenes and sterols [Abe et al., 1993]. The biosynthesis of glycyrrhizin involves the initial cyclization of 2, 3 oxidosqualene by a specific OSC, ОІ amyrin synthase (bAS), to the primarily oleanane triterpene ОІ amyrin which is one of the most commonly occurring triterpenes in plants. The subsequent steps involve a series of oxidative reactions at positions C 11 (two step oxidation) and C 30 (three step oxidation), followed by glycosyl transfers to the C 3 hydroxyl group. Genes involved in the early stages of glycyrrhizin biosynthesis, namely, squalene synthase and bAS, have been functionally isolated from G. glabra [Hayashi et al., 1999, 2001]. The bAS gene has also been functionally isolated from several other plants including Arabidopsis thaliana [Shibuya et al., 2009], Avena strigosa [Qi et al., 2004], Lotus japonicus [Sawai et al., 2006], and Medicago truncatula [Suzuki et al., 2002]; however, most of the steps in the modification of the ... It is a neurological condition that appears early in life. I chose to do my research over this condition because of a very special little girl in my life named Brenna. Right before Brenna turned three years old she was officially diagnosed with Spastic Diplegia. This was a diagnosis I had never heard of so when I began researching and found that Spastic Diplegia was a type of Cerebral Palsy I was confused because Brenna does not portray the characteristics of other Cerebral Palsy patients I have witnessed before. Physical Therapists will help each patient to learn how to be as functional as possible with their condition. Many patients will have to walk with an assistive device or even wear a leg brace. Gait training is very important for patients with Spastic Diplegia. Patients that are diagnosed with Spastic Diplegia can have complete paralysis or muscle weakness in both lower extremities. This often results in asymmetries on the right or left lower extremity. Therefore, when a person with Spastic Diplegia walks they will repeat movements irregularly, and this can lead to them developing secondary disabilities. 6(p1) A person with Spastic Diplegia can expect to see a Physical Therapist on and off for their life due to the fact that physical therapy can help them in so many different ways. Some doctors are prescribing certain medications, such as muscle relaxers, to help with spastic muscles or even giving their patients Botox injections in the tight muscles. This is a form of treatment that Brenna is now undergoing. The Botox shot is injected into the tight muscles and is supposed to help these muscles be able to relax. • 7. Positive And Negative Factors Of Mood Causes In Adolescent... Adolescents are known for being moody, impulsive and emotional. They make decisions based on how they re feeling without thinking about any consequences. Friends are crucial at this point in life, but the having the right friends is even more important. Peer pressure is a part of everyday life, however it can be either good or bad. Selection of affiliation is when people select the people they want to be around and form friendships with. Affiliation is when people gravitate toward others with like values and interests and provide support for context for views and behavior. Past research has shown that mood components can spread among adolescent peer networks. These components include both positive and negative characteristics. Yet, it seems highly more probable that negative mood can spread throughout the network and affect the adolescent friends (Eyre, House, Hill, Griffiths, 2017). Preceding research used the same in home interview surveys as in this study, with adolescents as their participants. A list of recorded school friends was present and the mood of the participating individual was scored based on the Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale. The scale was from 0 54, the higher the number the worse the mood that was indicated. Previous studies have found a link between mood disorders in adolescents and social support; other experiments show that emotional state of an individual can be affected by exposure to different levels of mood (Eyre, House, Hill, Griffiths, 2017). Over the years, researchers have found that other illnesses are spread from person to person via social contagion. Behavior based illnesses such as obesity and smoking cessation have been proven to have been spread among peers. Friendships form because of common interests, dislikes and things in common. Friendships are an open path for spread of attitude toward certain things. Both healthy and unhealthy mood spreads and even components of depression, but depression itself does not spread. The authors had not found any evidence of consideration of depression symptoms in previous experiments (Eyre, House, Hill, Griffiths, 2017). • 8. Descriptive Essay About Eddie Van Halen For as long as I can remember, my dad always had his music playing. In the car, in the house, everywhere. In time, his music became my music; and it still is. Though my dad s music taste was vast, his staple was Van Halen. Little did I know how much that band would shape me as a person. While most fans were in love with David Lee Roth, (the singer) I was all about Eddie Van Halen; the greatest guitarist in the world. The greatest because to me, he isn t just a guitarist. He s an innovator, a genius, and one of my biggest role models. While I think all art is powerful, it s all subjective, and to me, Eddie Van Halenis the perfect example to why art is so powerful. For he has created the passion, perseverance, and creativity that lives inside me today. From the moment I heard the majestic scream of Eddie Van Halen s guitar, I knew I had to learn how to play guitar. I was but only a listener at the time, but the passion of a musician budded within me, and locked my vicarious attention on every note. The more I listened to Van Halen, the more I wanted to stop being a listener, and start being a creator. It was like some insane urge came over me every time I listened to them telling me to create something. It was a musical high. I got my first guitar when I was 11 years old. Introduction to Controversy: As the wage gap is being discussed more, the question is why do men and women have different wages when they are working the same job. While it seems that men don t have to take as much time off from work or may work more, we have to look at it from Women s viewpoints also. His answer was, basically maybe God did not really give us freewill for us to sin, but something bigger, such as reward and punishment. We chose to do good or bad knowing that rewards and punishments comes from either one. God did not give freewill, but this is something that just had to come about for being a human being is what I grasp to understand from St. Augustine. I agree with St. Augustine because even though we may have come from God, it is still a choice to do good or bad. Evodius was saying what if God had not made it where we could chose to sin, what he failed to understand is that we would still have to choose to do good, even if that is the only choice. In this paper I will give supporting facts on how St. Augustine answered the question and understanding on how I agree with what he said. Mission command sets the foundation of control and applies to all levels of leadership throughout Army. Mission command allows commanders to utilize mission orders to give direction to subordinates. Ultimately, it empowers leaders to be adaptive in the face of an ever complex and changing world. Mission command has a foundation based on trust, understanding and a shared purpose. Effective commanders use six principals of mission command to influence situations while developing trust and a shared understanding. These principals are building teams through trust, creating shared understanding, providing a clear commanders intent, exercising disciplined initiative, use mission orders, and accept prudent risk. I will be using them as tools during my time as a leader. In this essay, I will briefly describe what each principal is and how it will affect me as a new junior lieutenant. The worst, however, is when fans are sure their team has won, just to have it ripped away from them. With that in mind, here are the top three most devastating losses in NFL playoff history: 3. New England Patriots vs Oakland Raiders, 2002 AFC Divisional Round the Brady Rule (The Tuck Rule): As if Spygate weren t enough to mar the Patriots three Lombardi Trophies from the turn of the century, there s also The Brady Rule. Brady drops back to pass in the late fourth quarter in blizzard conditions with his team down to the Raiders the makings of a great comeback, right? Not exactly. Charles Woodson came around on Brady s blindside, sacked Brady, knocked the ball loose, and then watched as his teammates recovered it. The refs reviewed it, decided that Brady needed a little help to win, and called upon an obscure rule in one of the most controversial calls in NFL history, robbing the Raiders of a win. • 18. The Minister s Black Veil And The Fall Of The House Of... Both of the short stories The Minister s Black Veil, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, and The Fall of the House of Usher, by Edgar Allan Poe, deal with the theme of the evil of human nature. However, Hawthorne presents all of human nature as naturally tending towards evil, whereas Poe only portrays certain types of evil, such as the ability for mankind to be incestuous out of prideful, arrogant desires. In The Minister s Black Veil, Mr. Hooper, the village minister, begins daily wearing a black veil for mysterious reasons. While a veil typically symbolizes mourning and sorrow, the villagers saw the veil as representing so much more though they were unsure of what. The veil both terrifies the villagers and makes them feel drawn to Mr. Hooper. As the story progresses, we learn that Mr. Hooper used the veil to symbolize the evil natures that all human beings try to hide. We first see the connection between the veil and evil when we learn, while wearing the veil, Mr. Hooper became very effective in being able to convert sinners to Christianity. Sinners felt drawn to him because they felt some sort of connection between themselves and the veil. As the narrator explains, sinners said they felt that before he brought them to celestial light, they had been with him behind the veil. In addition to being able to strongly influence Christian converts, those who were dying felt drawn to him and cried aloud for Mr. Hooper, and would not yield their breath till he appeared. • 21. Development As Freedom Summary Sen outlines two different approaches to development policies: the GNP/capital approach, which measures development through GNP and income levels, and the capability approach, which focuses on development through the expansion of freedoms. Given that his book is titled Development as Freedom , he is clear proponent of the latter approach. He offers a critique of the former, both factually and normatively. In his factual critique of policies that focus purely on GNP/human capital, he argues that capital is not an all encompassing yardstick with which to measure development. While capital and capabilities are closely linked, Sen believes that the capital approach focuses predominantly on human beings and their ability to increase production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He paraphrases Adam Smith in saying that to see humans only in terms of their productive use is to slight the nature of humanity , a bold declaration that humans are not just means of production but ends in themselves (296). Early in chapter twelve, he makes the argument that the basic concern in assessing growth and development should be with the expansion of our capability to lead the kind of lives we have reason to value (285). This means we ought to value to everything from the opportunity to find meaningful employment, to the opportunity to live in a safe, peaceful area. These are clearly non capital variables; while income is good measure of someone s capability to buy goods/services, it doesn t indicate their opportunity to live a long, worthwhile life, which Sen proposes we should care about as much as, if not more than just economic growth. Finally, in what is his strongest argument for focusing on freedoms instead of capital, Sen argues that capabilities have an intrinsic value, rather than just an instrumental value (292). Where income and capital are resources that improve people s choices, they are a means to development, not an end; therefore, we ought to value capabilities instrumentally and intrinsically, and use them as our yardstick for measuring ... The preference of the shopper really determines whether or not they have a pleasant experience and the time to look for their items. A consumer can save a considerable amount of money by researching an item they want to purchase to obtain the best deal. In addition, online sellers feature lower prices because they do not have the overhead costs such as rent, utilities and sales people. In comparison, retail centers will slash prices to compete against online retailers. Another savings with online shopping is that a consumer might not have to pay sales tax based on their residency. After making Attica a great and secure place to live, he realized that the city was filling up with people in a steady stream from everywhere in Greek; at the same time he realized that most of the country was still poor and unproductive, and people elsewhere are not in the habit of sending their goods to those who have nothing to offer in exchange. He therefore encouraged the sharecroppers to turn to the arts and crafts of manufacture and made a law that no son was obliged to support his father unless the father first taught the son a trade of some kind (Plutarch 64, Par 2). These bulky facial coverings were designed to protect the soldiers from deadly gases used by the enemy. The use of chemical agents in World War One led to the need for the production of better protection from the deadly effects of the agents. Chlorinegas could be dropped from cylinders above the victims, its high density causing it to flow downwards onto its unsuspecting foe (Fire 121). Also, the British Authorities struggled to decide whether or not to approve the use of gas for offensive use, and whether a large scale chemical war was something to be avoided at all costs (Girard 107). The gas masks worn by soldiers increased their discomfort and made it hard to move around, instilling a sense of panic in them when a gas raid was underway (Fire 121). The French were the first to fire asphyxiating gas shells from field guns and pioneered the use of gas as a neutralization weapon (Krause 553). The psychological damage of gas attacks on soldiers was mainly because of the horror of seeing their unprepared comrades suffocating and screaming in agony from burns inflicted by mustard gas (Fitzgerald 611). What are the environmental and health issues related to fracking technology on extraction of shale gas and oil? Unconventional gas and oil extraction process known as hydraulic fracturing, hydrofracking or fracking is a technique used to extract shale gas and oil, on which high pressure fluid is injected, mainly water, containing sand, chemicals or other granular materials which are pumped with a fluid medium under pressure into rock, so that fractures formed in this process are held open when the pressure is released, allowing oil or gas to flow more freely suspended, with the aid of thickening agents. The Revolution was interested in the rehabilitation of prostitutes as a metaphor for the rehabilitation of Cuba. I Am Cuba explains the need for revolution in Cuba. The film captures the political oppression and the large disparity in wealth and power experienced by the people under the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista prior to the Revolution. In one scene, it portrays the foreign contribution to the prostitution and poverty epidemic in Havana. The American tourists degrade and dehumanize the prostitutes; the men consider the prostitutes to be something on the side after their drink orders, and they refer to them as tasty morsel and dish. Despite different research questions, participants, methods, these two research projects are built on the same theoretical assumption that human behaviors and the consequences of their behaviors are the outcomes of human interactions with their own context. According to Bronfenbrenner s theory, each person is located in the core circle entitled microsystems which often includes that person s family, school, peers, etc. Outside the microsystem is the mesosystems where the interactions of related people in the microsystem conduct with each other. In the next layer, exosystems, there are boarder communities that the person lives in, for example, her/his neighborhood, the health care system, and so on. Across the United States, every year millions of license drivers choose to ride motorcycles rather than drive automobiles for a variety of reasons; Reasons range from individual pleasure to a much more cost effective way to travel. The universal motorcyclehelmet law debate over the past forty years has revolved around whether the federal government should adopt a universal helmet law that mandates all motorcyclists to wear helmets at all times when riding to reduce societies economic cost, or whether the individual rider should have the right to choose rather to wear or not wear a helmet. The amendment led to the repeal of universal coverage in 27 states shortly thereafter (Derrick, Allison J., and Lee D. Faucher 229). Between 1989 and 1994, Congress once again began to try and influence the States to mandate a universal motorcycle helmet law by implementing the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991, also known as ISTEA. ISTEA provided special incentive grants to states with both universal motorcycle helmet laws and passenger vehicle safety belt use laws. A state qualified for a first year grant by having these two laws in effect. In subsequent years, the state also was required to exceed minimum motorcycle helmet and safety belt use levels (helmet use of 75 percent in the second year and 85 percent in the third year). Twenty three states and the District of Columbia received grants for one or more of the fiscal years 1992, 1993, and 1994 for which the grants were authorized (R.G. Ulmer and D.F. Preusser 5). At our nations lowest and darkest time, it was slavery that not only was the culprit for the separation of the young colonies from each other, but also the formula needed to unite the people who made up these states for the betterment of society. • 42. The Effect Of Priming Effect On The Dual Process Essay Indeed, there are any other factors that affect the dual process, whether these improve or reduce the performances, for example, repetition helps to improve the familiarity related task (Henson, et al., 1999). Besides, encoding the information into the deepest level will create a successful way for recollection, but it requires a long time to occur it (Rugg Curran, 2007, Craik Tulving, 1975). What is more, priming effect is a phenomenon in which exposure to a word or concept later makes it easier to recall related information and make it faster the memoryprocess (Eysenck Keane 2000; Rugg, et al., 1995; Paller, et al., 2007). At the same time, it has been mention that the priming effect is under the category of implicit memory (unconscious) which is not controlled by earlier experiences (Paller Kutas, 1992; Paller, et al., 2007). Additionally, both familiarity and the priming effect have the same result, because they based on the know judgment (Voss Paller, 2006; Curran, et al., 2006). Moreover, priming effect is related to the frontal lobe which keeps the past memories (Dew Cabeza, 2011; Eysenck Keane 2000; Curran, et al., 2006). It can be said that old/new effect is the reflection of familiarity and recollection process, and these can be better with some strategies. Declarative memory or explicit memory is the type of long term memory, and it needs an effort to bring out the information consciously (Squire Zola, 1998). The declarative memory contains ... • 44. Adolescence Is A Life Changing Event For Males And Females Puberty in essence is a life changing event for males and females, typically following a time of significant physical growth. Puberty is the stage in life when secondary sex characteristics are developing, sexual organs mature due to production of sex hormones. This naturally occurs during adolescence, the stage in life between childhood and adulthood. Nonetheless, Feldman (2014) points out the fact that physical changes begin earlier for girls typically at the age of 10, with sexual organ development generally around the ages of 11 12. On the other hand, physical changes for boys, frequently occurs later, around the age of 12, with development of sexual organs around the age of 13 14. Nevertheless there has been a trend towards early maturation of both male and females, this can bring about advantages and disadvantages for both sexes (Feldman, 2014). This author will discuss the pros and cons of early versus late maturation in boys versus girls in 21st century U.S. society as well as how media reinforces maturation for pre teens and teens. It is not clear why adolescence starts at a specific time. What is clear is that natural and social elements assume a part. This trend towards early maturation is believed to be a result of improved nutritional intake and a reduced amount of illness over the past century (Feldman, 2014). Additional factors that can influence early maturation in girls, according to Feldman (2014), would be the percentage of fat to muscle, moreover the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A chemical change can be identified by five things: change in mass, formation of a precipitate, release of heat and/or light, color change, or giving off gas. Physical changes occurred in four out of the eight experiments completed in this lab. The first was experiment one, the salt and water. The salt was added to water but when the water evaporated the salt remained. The water changed to the vapor form of water and the salt did not change. The second was experiment two, the candle. When the candle was lit the heat given off from the fire melted the wax beneath it. Melting is a physical change because the liquid wax is still wax, its usual form is just a solid. Experiment four dealt with ripping paper. This was a physical change because, although the paper was being ripped apart, it was (and still is) paper. With the incorporation of deism into everyday life people could focus more on reason, being less influenced by religion. However, because Pierre Joseph was a Girondin he was very opposed to the views of the Jocobins, so of course he believed the removal of religion from French society to have negative impacts.
