They construct all grow troughs out of this otherwise wasted resource Dissolved fish waste is used as plant nutrients. Solids are sent to nearby landscaping compost, as well as the green waste About 10,000 lbs of excess food production has been donated to the Hawaii Food Bank. KCF participated in studies with State Department of Agriculture and University of Hawaii to change existing regulations and standards for aquaponically grown food. Not only do they preserve soil quality for generations to come by farming in water troughs, they also produce about 40% more lettuce on the same area of land
