Ch 22 Subsections The Ordeal of Reconstruction After the Civil War, the north and the south
were facing many problems like short in supplies and resources. The Problems of Peace After
Andrew Johnson became president, the south was facing many situations like there was no work
being done, the factories were quiet, the slave labor system had collapsed, etc. The southerners
had blamed all this to the president. Freedmen Define Freedom Based on the Emancipation,
blacks and slaves were freed in the Union states and free slaves can have education and have

He was the leader of the Joint Committee on Reconstruction. This caused him to be a mysterious
figure in history. Reconstruction by the Sword The Reconstruction Act was passed to divide the
south into five military parts, and this act led to the creation of the Fifteenth Amendment. The
Amendment was used for protecting the ballot provisions of the Reconstruction Act. No Women
Voters Because women were like blacks, they had no rights to vote and don t have the basic rights
of the civil rights. Women leaders had created a group to defend for women s rights, which was
called the Woman s Loyal League. This group of women wanted the Congress to pass a
constitutional amendment prohibiting slavery. The Realities of Radical Reconstruction in the
South The Union League was created by southern black men which they turned it into a league that
educated people in their duties and campaigned for Republican candidates. The scalawags were
southern slaves who was being striked out with fury at the freedmen s white allies. The Ku Klux

Drunk History-Claudette Colvin And Rosa Parks
The Art to Influence Advertisements in television, movie, drama, and every aspect of
entertainment requires a series of action that appeals the audience, influences, or affects them.
Various animal care centers and foster homes advertise an emotional appeal to influence the
audience to visit or help the centers. Humors, sarcasms, and metaphors are the other techniques
that helps the mass to influence or connect with the product. Most of the advertisement, movies
and even political campaigns use a great amount of emotional (pathos), logical (logos) and ethical
(ethos) beliefs to influence its audiences. The first advertisement video on the list titled, Drunk
History Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks narrates the story of a black woman leading to racial
injustice. The video is narrated by a drunk women and thus provides a pinch of humor in it.

Thomas Jefferson narrates the story of two presidential candidates (Adams and Jefferson)
competing. During the video both Adam and Jefferson use irrelevant piece of information in
newspaper to degrade each other s reputation. Such information published in the modern world is
not possible since it is very inaccurate and irrelevant. The information could also only happen if
the two candidates were competing in a un ethical manner in the real 1800 s. Writer Michael
Austin in his book Reading The World: Ideas That Matter describes a term False dilemma as a
fallacy... [of] two issues if they are only possible choices [in each] situation. (Austin 661) So, the
video does not have logos on it. Also, the language used on this video is not the language the
candidates would be using during elections or any time of their life. Thus this shows that absence
of ethics on the presidents which leads the video to have absence of ethos on

Commodity Fetishism In Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market
Karl Marx s theory of commodity fetishism was the idea of the social relationship that involved
production as well as economic relationships surrounded by money and commodities exchange in a
market trade. Marx pointed out that the theory of commodity fetishism explained the social
association of labor was intervened through business sector trade, the purchasing and the offering of
items which is goods and service. One can see the relation of commodity fetishismand Christina
Rossetti s Goblin Market as Goblins Market showed the market exchanged of buying and selling
the items which is the fruits. By applying the theory of commodity fetishism and Goblin Market,
the reader used evidence from the text to reflect critically back to the theory itself. We see a point

that the forms of distribution expressed the relations under which the recently delivered newly

explained this in depth, Marx pointed out that the value of a product started from the human being

Groundwater Contamination Research Paper
When there is an addition of undesired substances from human activities in the groundwater, it can
cause groundwater contamination. There are many industrial operations that cause contamination
in ground water, due to the large quantities of chemicals used. Chlorinated hydrocarbons, which are
used in cleaning products and solutions containing chromium, which are used in metal plating, lead
to the groundwater contamination. These industrial wastes are dumped in storage tanks and they
leak, thus causing contamination. There is greater awareness of the issues and hazards of the
dumping of chemical wasteand there are laws restricting the dumping of this waste. Since many
individuals rely on groundwater for drinking water, many of them are drinking contaminated water.
Due to this, there are many health risks including, hepatitis, poisoning and cancer when exposed to
polluted water. As well, the wildlife can be harmed from the contaminated ground water. A good
disposal method of ground waste consists of a chemical treatment that is able to convert the
hazardous waste into environmentally safe materials. A highly toxic chemical, trichloroethylene,
becomes non toxic when the chlorine atoms are converted to chloride anions. As well, when
chromium containing waste has highly toxic chromate anions are converted into Chromium (III) ion,

Descriptive Essay About A Puppy
Running faster than the speed of light, a cute puppy came rushing toward me as we were playing
in the backyard. With no intention of stopping, the biggest puppy I ve ever seen in my life ran head
first hitting the top of my mouth¬―chipping my tooth. The puppy s name was Bruno. A big
brown playful puppy with a line of white fur running from the middle of his eyes to the top of his
nose on his face. I loved Bruno, but he was not the first pitbull puppy that I ve had.
When I was in Idyllwild on a family trip to play in the snow one day, we stopped at a convenience
store to get something to snack on and drink. When we walked inside there was a man walking
around trying to sell a pitbull puppy with faint black spots hidden behind his fuzzy white fur. It
was close to my step brother s birthday at the time, and he wanted the puppy as an early birthday
present. My step brother, Nathaniel, wasn t the only one who wanted that puppy. In truth, the rest
of my family on this trip also wanted the puppy. As we left Idyllwild that day, we left with one
more puppy than we came with. At the time, the puppy s name was Carlitos, but we decided to
name him Rosco instead.
Rosco rarely wanted to play with me because he loved my step brother so much more than he did
me, or anyone else for that matter. In fact, Nathaniel was the only person who Rosco would run
around and jump on whenever he was in his presence. I wished that Rosco would play with me just
as much as he did with my step brother, but

Arthur Dimmesdale s Guilt and Hypocrisy Essay
Arthur Dimmesdale s Guilt and Hypocrisy
By Ashlyn R. Thomas
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s gripping tale, The Scarlet Letter, a revered Puritan minister suffers from
cowardly guilt and hypocrisy after he commits adultery in this novel staged in the seventeenth
century. Arthur Dimmesdale, who hides himself in the shame of his lover, Hester
Prynne, protects his reputation among the Puritan people. The scaffold, a public symbol of
disgrace, contrasts with the pastor s silent sin of adultery. When Hester became a symbol of sin
among the people and wore the scarlet letter as punishment, Dimmesdale bears a sinner s masked
mark in his heart. As a result of his concealed sin, Dimmesdale suffers from guilt and hypocrisy.
Over the course of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shrieking aloud like those suffering souls who turn away from the face of God, Dimmesdale felt
little relief from the iron chains of guilt and hypocrisy. Longing to free his guilty soul, Dimmesdale
stood on the scaffold imagining Hester s disgrace. Illustrating his inner conflicts, Dimmesdale had
expressed himself by screaming aloud.
Immediate horror encompassed him because he is afraid of being discovered by the town. Alone
in the abyss of darkness, upon the pedestal of shame, Dimmesdale found little relief in his private
confession in the second scaffold scene.
Finally, a few days later, Dimmesdale confesses his sin publicly in the third scaffold scene,
showing his repentance and thereby finding relief from guilt and hypocrisy. Allowing his sin to
fester in his heart for over seven years, Dimmesdale, now a dying man from sin, decided to
ascend the scaffold. Dimmesdale, understanding that he, a dying man, sought mercy and
forgiveness, and climbed the pedestal in guilty remorse. Ye that have loved me! ye, that have
deemed me holy! behold me here, the one sinner of the world! At last I stand upon the spot where
seven years since, I should have stood! 3 Beckoning Hester and their child, Pearl, to his side,
Dimmesdale s voice strengthened. As he confesses, the people recognized Dimmesdale bore the
same stigma that marked Hester. Dimmesdale asks for forgiveness, therefore completing his

Evidence In Mandel s Evidence
The set of archive images that constitute Sultan and Mandel s Evidence, were the culmination of
two years research within an array of government agencies, educational institutions and
corporations: from the Aeronutronic Ford Corporation, Newport Beach to the Veterans
Administration Hospital, Palo Alto. The artists were granted access to millions of photographs
within these spaces and therein embarked on a critical process of appropriation. As Sultan states,
Mike and I, through the act of selection, became authors (BAMPFA, 2012). Throughout the work
we are focused on the notion of the photographas index: the trace of a footprint on wet paving
slabs, a passport photo next to a hand print in sand. Despite this very specific reference the status of
the photograph, as an empiric document, is continually questioned, not least in the title of the work.

Or, put another way, how one can use the language and the structure of an object to subvert its
function. As Mandel states it is that, duet between a depicted document and a world that is out of
control (BAMPFA, 2012). The photographs seem to have a transparent nature that is illustrative,
but in the context of the artwork, devoid of the original information structure they once had, they
are weird and fascinating. We are directed to experiments, to physical journeys into the substrata of
spaces, into tunnels, down holes, into freezing basements, inside machines. The focus of an object
within some of the photographs may be intended for post production cropping. However objects are
only half isolated within the confines of the image through the creation of makeshift studio spaces.
In this context participants are absorbed within the confines of their activity, and by implication a
system of meaning that we, as the audience, are not privy

Analysis Of The Film Gladiators
The film Gladiators was about the reign or Marcus Aurelius coming to an end. When Marcus
chooses Maximus, an army general and a powerful man with good morals, over his own son
Commodus, to be heir to the throne of the Roman Empire, Commodus is enraged and sentences
Maximus and his family to death. Maximus escapes his death sentence but is unable to save his
family. The loss of his family causes his willpower to disappear which allows him to be captured
and put into the games of the Gladiators until death. The only thing keeping him fighting is that he
has a chance to rise to the top and take revenge on the man who destroyed everything he loved, the
new emperor Commodus.
In my opinion, I would say the protagonist of this film was Maximus by far. Maximus was an
army general with good morals, a strong man who cared for others, a family man who would do
anything for the ones he loved, but most of all, he had courage. He wasn t afraid to do what
needed to be done when it was necessary. In the film, Maximus said something along the lines of I
am required to kill when it is necessary, not for enjoyment. His internal compass spins correctly,
unlike the antagonists. I would deem Commodus the antagonist of this film. First, he kills Marcus
Aurelius, the most loved ruler of Roam and a wonderful man, once he finds out that he isn t the
chosen heir to the Roman Empire. Second, he sentences Maximus and his entire to family to death
in a brutal, inhumane way. Commodus has some

individuals who are rebellious and extroverted and whose parents and peers model or encourage
use (Oltmanns Emery, 2015, p303). This information might be confirmed by the fact that on his
teenager years Mark used one week s worth of pain medication in 3 days when he had extensive

The hardship of Mark with strong complications of dealing with classes in the local community

Murray Bowen s Family Systems Theory
Murray Bowen, a medical doctor by profession, and the oldest child in his family of origin, was one
of the pioneers of family therapy. Bowen is affectionately recognized as the first family therapist in
his time to identify that the history of an individual s family creates a blueprint which shapes the
values, thoughts, and experiences of each generation as well as how such characteristics are
transmitted to the next generation. He studied schizophrenia extensively and associated that its
cause was rooted in the mother child relationship, which resulted in an anxious and unhealthy
attachment. Bowen postulated the FamilySystems theory, which places great emphasis on the
premise that the family is shaped by counterbalancing forces he described... Show more content on

Triangulation is driven by anxiety and is used primarily to let off steam while conflict freezes in

of a blended family comes to mind. The family is comprised of my identified client (a 16 yr. old
female), her mother, stepfather, and younger 11 year old brother. Initially, when I started working
with the family, both the mother and the stepfather tried engaging me in the process of
triangulation. This led to both parties directing blames to each other during sessions and tried to
force me to side about who was the root cause of the problems in the family. On one instance, an
emotionally charged argument ensued between both parties in session, where the husband stormed
out of the house as he felt that his wife was attempting to lure me in. It was on that same night, I
decided to get myself out of the couple s volatile triangle, and recommended them to couple s
therapy. The wife was very upset with her husband s distance, refusal to communicate with her, and
lack of support in the home with the children. Consequently, this mother increased spending time
with her two children where the older child became the mother s confidant. On the other hand, the
husband complained that the wife s nagging, yelling, and arguments made it considerably hard to

Examples Of Probable Cause
The standard for a legal arrest is probable cause. For an officer to make an arrest, he or she must
have more than a mere hunch yet less than actual knowledge that the arrestee committed the crime
(Peak, 2009). Law enforcement officers need to make certain they understand probable cause is
different than reasonable suspicion. A good example of a reasonable suspicion encounter is Terry
V. Ohio, where an officer who had 39 years of experience in law enforcement observed two men
standing on a street corner. It appeared based on the officer s experience the two men were casing
a store because they both were walking up and down the street peering into the store windows, and
then they would return to the corner to conference. While the officer... Show more content on

The officer did have reasonable suspicion to make contact and after locating the weapons he had
his probable cause. There are four situations that Probable Cause is used; involving arrests with a
warrant, arrests without a warrant, searched of items with a warrant, and searches of items
without a warrant (V., D. C., Walker, J. T., 2015). Most of my encounters with individuals occurs
on traffic stops; which require probable cause to stop them. My probable cause could be
speeding, reckless driving or any traffic violation in the traffic law manual. Once probable cause
is established then contact is made with the driver. If there is reason to believe that there is
more than a traffic violation, such as an officer smelling marijuana inside the vehicle, then he or
she can now have access into the vehicle. My probable cause to get into the vehicle is based on
my training and experience that there was or is illegal narcotics inside the vehicle. If there is no
probable cause to get into the vehicle and an officer feels there is more to the traffic stop than
speeding, then the officer needs to build his reasonable suspicion to figure out what the driver is
up to. For example, one night on patrol, it was believed that there was a possible drug transaction
going on in the

Sport has played a pivotal role in many different facets of my life. The first is via direct

My personal example follows the narrative introduced to us in Characteristics of sport based youth

relationships through sport is a trend I look forward to continuing as we embark on this partnership

Socialization Techniques Of African American Male Within...
Abstract
Socialization techniques of African Americans, in particular black males in the criminal justice
system are vastly dissimilar in comparison to their white counterparts. The dominant socialization
indifference is theoretically associated with Marxist Criminology schools of thought, in particular
conflict theory. Qualitative, empirical, and historical data supports Marxist criminology based on
capitalism, conflict, and the disparity treatment of the Afro American male within the criminal
justice system: police, courts, and corrections. This research will address how capitalism creates a
caste system that perpetuates conflict. Furthermore, this research will briefly explore the
correlation of American capitalism, slavery, Jim Crow, and the new Negro coined criminal; and the
Marx school of thought as it pertains to African Americanmales interaction within the American
criminal justice system and the hidden agenda of its capitalistic government.
Keywords: crime, ethnic racial socialization, policing techniques, race, racial discrimination
Introduction
The socialization techniques of African American males in the American criminal justice system
are vastly disproportionate in comparison to their white counter parts. Economics and power play
a vital role in this epidemic. This is best associated with Karl Marx s philosophy of Marxist
Criminology. (Marx) Early Marxist criminologist, William Bonger(1905), associated misuse and

The Treatment Of Men And Women
Why is there a difference in the treatment of men and women? Why are men and women treated
as unequal? If a woman and a man both work for 40 hours a week, the man is more likely to get
15.4% more earnings than the woman. If they both work for 60 hours, the woman earns 21.7%
less than the man ( Sexism ). Some men, and even some women, treat women unfairly because
today s society says women belong at home with the kids. There have been several worldwide
instances of women being treated like they are incompetent if they conform to their genderroles and
incompetent if they do not. Women are expected to only have the desire to produce and care for
children. They are not livestock. They are expected to care for their husbands, be a housewife....

research shows that men and women are unequal in gaining leadership positions. If a man becomes
an authoritative figure, he is seen as influential. However, if a woman earns some kind of authority,
she will be overbearing and bossy. It can be very difficult for women to achieve higher positions
and if she does, her co workers might think she had been intimate with an employer. In the
subject of skill, if a man is better at his job than a woman, it is only natural. However, if the
woman is better at her job than a man, the man is just slacking off or not doing his job at all
(Foschi 181).
A man and his wife stand in their kitchen, arguing over the prospect of having children. The
husband wants children and the wife does not. He screams at her in frustration, Every woman
wants to have children! What s wrong with you? Did I marry a defective woman? The husband
does not understand that not all women want children or may not be ready for them. Andrew
Greeley writes that women are at a new stage in history where they can control their rates of
procreation using forms of contraception, such as birth control and/or condoms. They no longer
have to give birth if they are not ready, and even might consider abortion or giving the child up
for adoption if they have no possible way to take care of it.

Racial Differences In Ta-Nehisi Coates s Sonny s Blues
In Between the World and Me, Ta Nehisi Coates depicts how an African American man should
behave in America based on other people s perception of their race. In the essay, he speaks to his
son about how a black man is obligated to be twice as good and how a black man takes
responsibility for another black man. Coates highlights the expectations of black peopleand the
struggle to go beyond what society has labeled them as because of their differences in skin color
and the stereotypes that the majority has perceived them as. In relation to social differences,
James Baldwin s Sonny s Blues, expresses how differences in livelihood metal in between
relationships and growth. The narrator in the story fails to broaden his mindset that his brother,
Sonny, can change from his drug addiction and that his students have more a chance to end up
like Sonny rather than making a positive impact on their lives. My own claim is that alien stories
have hidden meanings of cultural and racial differences to the extent of showing how stereotypes
negatively alter one s mindset of how they will behave towards another group of people because of
the differences they hold. I believe that an individual thinks they have superiority over another and
that is why negative connotations are made. Stanley Weinbaum s A Martian Odyssey, tells the story
of a man named Jarvis who meets an extraterrestrial named Tweel. Although they have physical
differences, Jarvis and Tweel get along. However, Harrison

Nike Of Samothrace Greek Goddess Comparison
Nike of Samothrace is a sculpture from 190 BCE, first found on Samothrace, a Greek island, in
1863. This statue is a female figure with wings, wearing a flowing gown. It s said to represent
Nike, the Greek Goddess of Victory, and her winning in battle. It shows various elements of the
Hellenistic period, such as the use of space and dimension. The Snake Goddess is a 1600 BCE
figurine found in 1903, in Knossos, Crete by the British archaeologist Arthur Evans. It s made of
Faience, a glass like material, and it shows a large breasted women whose holding two snakes on
each of her hands supporting a feline like figure on her head, and it s wearing what seems to be a
long layered skirt with a metal looking accessory or girdle on her waist. The biggest similarity
between these two sculptures is that both represent femininity through this new sensual female

Her complex clothing calls attention to her exposed breast, very slim waist and wide hips,
exaggerating her sexual features. These exaggerated features are caused by her ornamental dress.
The naturalism shown in this sculpture is common in Minoan art, just as the patterns, colors and
folds bring the typical Minoan dresses alive. Her body is mostly proportional, except for her
hands which seem to be too small for her body. Not a common detail on Minoan sculptures so it s
most likely not intentional. The Nike of Samothrace is an example of Hellenistic sculpture. Nike s
wings are open and the diagonal thrust of her body makes it seem as if she s turning while
moving forward. The details on the marble show her gown still tugged by the breeze created as
she landed on the front of a ship. Her body is farily Classical, except for the thickness of her hips.
The texture of her feathers, the flutter of her clothing and the openness of her body gives an
illusion that captures attention as never

The Great Exhibition Of 1851 By Louis Haghe, Joseph Nash...
Compiled in 1854 by Louis Haghe, Joseph Nash and David Roberts, Dickinson s Comprehensive
Pictures of the Great Exhibition of 1851 reveals large amounts of information regarding
exhibitionary cultures in the nineteenth century. The catalogue was produced for Prince Albert,
who was the patron of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and
Commerce. This source suggests the Great Exhibitionfollowed a similar trend how museums mainly
operated in the nineteenth century. Most images in the catalogue represent the Victorian notion of
progress, making visitors react a certain way to exhibits and also influencing behaviour generally
throughout the museum to the same way that Foucault shows with the concept of the Panopticon.
Using the images of Moving Machinery, General View of the Exterior of the Building and The
Transept in the Comprehensive Pictures catalogue, this essay will analyse each of these images to
show their revelation of exhibitionary cultures, which means to critically understand attitudes to the
way which museums operate exhibitions. It will also examine how historians responded to the
historiographical debate surrounding the Great Exhibition, and argues that the Great Exhibition
was generally successful and that it had a mainstream exhibitionary culture compared with other
museums in the nineteenth century.

Media And Mass Shootings
In my essay, I argue that the media, in particular the news, has a bigger influence in mass
shootings then other stimuli like; access to guns, violent video games, and mental illness. By
exploring the news role in mass shootings we can begin to discuss the changes that can be made
in the way they broadcast. While the news believes they are just doing their duty and reporting the
news while also honoring the victims, there really just honoring the perpetrator. With the news
portraying the culprit as a hero, relieving what and how many weapons he used, and the amount of
people he or she killed they help encourage future perpetrators to beat the score . There are several

Anyone who has studied ancient Egypt will be familiar with Jean Francois Champollion. He was,

A Comparison Of Freudian Psychoanalysis And The Awakening
Freudian Psychoanalysis and the Awakening Sigmund Freud, the preeminent, 19th century,
European neurologist and psychologist, designed a theory he labelled psychoanalysis, a theory
which would transcend all borders and integrate itself deeply into many facets of society. In fact, an
American named Kate Chopin, wrote a book entitled The Awakening, which was published at the
turn of the 19th century, in which this theory played an integral role in expressing the complexity,
relevance, and growth of the main character. The express importance of the main character

However the text does hint at eventual abandonment of this balance. This may seem like a
ponderous weight of wisdom to descend upon the soul of a young woman of twenty eight, perhaps
more wisdom than the Holy Ghost is usually pleased to vouchsafe to any woman. (Pg 33 34)
Though her Superego does appear to be keeping the Id and the Ego in check, the text implies that it
will not be able to hold its dominant position much longer. Through the usage of Freudian
Psychoanalysis in her main character Edna, Chopin gives readers a candid glance into the
elaborate nature of women s thoughts and feelings in the 19th century. It is clear that established
roles were very highly in question, as well as the importance of self expression and discovery.
These are very important elements of humanity to consider as they relate very heavily to the
condition of society today. These ideas can be seen in politics, the arts, social relations, and an
individual s perception of their duties to society. The idea of the Id, the Ego, and the Superego
does seem to be a realistic perception of the human mindset, as demonstrated through Edna s
thought process, and can be applied to the way of thought that people have possessed for hundreds
of years. In these times, the world struggles to achieve meaning and purpose within themselves and
among their societies, and the Awakening offers an extremely interesting point of view; Learning to

James Madison And Federalist Paper No
Although James Madison despised factions as explained in Federalist Paper No. 10, Madison
believed factions were an essential part of government, that needed to be revised through careful
governmental intervention. Madison was careful to ensure his vision for the country s future
would protect the given right to liberty; therefore he found in the Constitution multiple outlets
for these factions to dissolve. However, the government itself was corrupt so the three branches
had to be separated to prevent tyranny and be successful in stopping the dangerous factions.
Therefore, in Federalist Papers No. 10 and No. 51, Madison would outline his goals for creating
a more cohesive country. A faction by definition is a small, organized, dissenting group within a
larger one, especially in politics. These groups are often wound together based off some principle
they believe relates to them in some way or another. Madison thought most factions existed
through unequal property distribution. Few individuals had a large majority of property while
most had little property and others having none at all. Madison even said in Federalist Paper No.
10, Those who hold and those who are without property have ever formed a distinct interest in
society (Madison, 1787). This interest he was referring to was how often these two classes of
people were discriminated; the discrimination being labeled as rich or poor. Madison felt through
the unequal property and the weak governmental

Insulin, Thyroid FSH
The underproduction of Insulin
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition. Your immune system attacks healthy body tissue by
mistake. In this instance, it means it attacks the cells in your pancreas. Because it constantly attacks
your pancreas, it inevitably becomes damaged which means that it cannot produce insulin. This
then means that glucose cannot be transferred into your bloodstream and into your cells.
There are many complications which accompany diabetes and these can include long term health
problems which can be very serious. Blindness and vision loss are one of the affects it has on the

the 1930 s. It was an event that occurred in the United States, where the area it was taken place did
not have moist soil, healthy crops, and a considerable amount of water. During this time, the soil
was poor, meaning there was a small amount of nutrients in it. From this, it caused the seeds being

The Confrontation Between Blanche And Stanley
Abraxa Lee
Professor Lukomski
English 111
December 3rd, 2014
The Winner Takes It All:
The Confrontation between Blanche and Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire
Tennessee Williams s A Streetcar Named Desire portrays a dog eat dog world, in which the winner
takes it all: a person not just watches out closely for his/her own interest but also preys on the
weak. This portrayal is mostly embodied in the confrontation between Blanche DuBois and Stanley
Kowalski, the two major characters in the play. The confrontation partly arises from difference in
class, Blanche from high society while Stanley from low one. But most noteworthy is that the
element that contributes the most to this confrontation is their desires for sex, money, revenge,
and even survival of life. Over time, the tension between Blanche and Stanley grows to a climax
and eventually goes down with Blanche, the weak, losing the battle while Stanley, the strong,
standing out as the victor and taking away Blanche s soul and body. Given this, in this dog eat
dog showdown there exists ambiguous moments: Is the physical contact between Blanche and
Stanley a rape, a date, or a rape date? A look into this issue is in order. Stanley s and Blanche s
worlds are opposite to each other. Stanley and his peers live in a working class world. Life is
simple for them. They work and entertain themselves with beers and card games in their spare
time. On the contrary, Blanche is from Old South of luxury, where white people are

Analytical Essay On The Waterfront
In the realist film, On The Waterfront, Elia Kazan offers the audience an exploration of what it
means to value individual conscience in the pursuit of justice. Set across from New York City,
Kazan s tense expose of organised corruption in the 1950 s follows the protagonist, Terry Malloy,
as he struggles to choose between his loyalties in a world filled with dishonesty and trepidation.
Although it may seem that many of the characters are bound to silence by fear and corruption,
Kazan implies that a strong moral presence can motivate others to help their community by
exposing the facts to the public . Kazan suggests that poverty and corruption can lead people to
live in fear of those in power, as well as how people may feel obliged to be loyal to those have
helped them in the past. In addition to this, Kazan conveys that a strong moral voice can be
enough to catalyse change in a community. Through the exploitation of the workers on the docks,
Kazan highlights how power and corruption can drive people towards keeping silent about things
they know are morally inacceptable. Set in Hoboken, the New York skyline constantly appears
in the distance to represent the American dream. However, it is always masked by a layer of fog
and separated from the workers by a tall, metal fence. Therefore, Kazan implies that, despite the
idea that everyone should have an equal opportunity to prosper and live comfortably, the
American dream is obscured and unreachable for the longshoremen working on the docks, with
one worker even claiming: I m poorer now than when I started . Kazan further demonstrates this
view through his portrayal of Johnny Friendly and the Mob, who prevent the workers from
reaching this ideal. For example, when Father Barry first appears at the docks, one of Johnny
Friendly s men is taunting the workers, questioning: What s the matter? Nobody want to work
today? before leaving the workers frantically scrabbling for a token and the chance to get a day s
work. This suggests that the longshoremen are like pigeons searching for their day s feed,
powerless against the hawks watching from above who will be right down on them if they dare to
speak out against them. As a consequence, Kazan implies that the

A significant client side administration overhead.
By 1995, a new variation of the traditional two tier client server model appeared to solve these
problems called the three tier client server architecture. This new architecture proposed three layers,
each potentially running on a different platform:
1) The user interface layer, which runs on the end user s computer (the client).
2) The business logic and data processing layer. This middle tier runs on a server and is often
called the application server. One application server is designed to serve multiple clients.
3) A DBMS, which stores the data required by the middle tier. This tier may run on a separate
server called the database server.
The three tier design has many advantages over the traditional two tier design, such as:
A thin client, which requires less expensive hardware. Simplified application maintenance, as a
result of centralizing the business logic for many end users into a single application server. This
eliminates the concerns of software distribution that are problematic in the traditional two tier client
server architecture. Added modularity, which makes it easier to modify or replace one tier without

How do you find out if you have this thyroid disorder? First off, it is most common in women.

My mom has had hyperthyroidism because she has Hashimoto s disease and three nodules on
her thyroid. She got very sick and lost a lot of weight, lost a lot of hair, had to go to the ER for
anxiety attacks. The extra hormones made her body shake, and gave her headaches and stomach
aches. The doctors scheduled surgery to remove her thyroid. We ended up moving so she didn t
get the surgery, but now she is taking iodine and some other pills to feel better. She has
Hashimoto s disease so the symptoms may come back later but for now she is okay. Thyroid
problems are very common but most people have the opposite problem called hypothyroid disorder,
which is where the thyroid doesn t make enough thyroid hormone. Hyperthyroidism is harder to
treat and has many negative consequences, but it s not as common. As you can see

My Understanding Of The Lincoln Electric Company s...
My understanding of the Lincoln Electric Company s culture
An organization s culture consists of unseen elements such as assumptions and values that affect
organizational life, it is the personality of the company. At Lincoln Electric, even though they never
had a formal organization chart, the culture is an extremely significant aspect of everyday life and a
powerful asset; its unique and hard to imitate conceptualization gives the firm an undeniable
competitive advantage and insures maximum flexibility.
Over the decades and since it was first created, the ongoing guidance and encouragement of the
management towards their employees made Lincoln s expansion possible to a global level. The
ideas and philosophy of the founders are still at the core of the organizational culture because they
strongly supported the company in its initial stages and helped distinguish it from others. Thus, by
providing a competitive advantage, these values were retained as part of the corporate culture and
were taught to new members as the right way to do business.
The principles and ideas in which James F. Lincoln believed and that brought him his success are
still those that drive the current Board of Directors and employees every day.
His vision of the customer s needs as the raison d etre for every company was a key to a better
growth of his organization; it remains at the center of everybody s attention and is reflected in

1.Fundamentals of Scientific Management
1.1 Introduction The principal object of management should be to secure the maximum prosperity
for the employer, coupled with the maximum prosperity for each employee. It would seem to be
so self evident that maximum prosperity for the employer, coupled with maximum prosperity for
the employee, ought to be the two leading objects of management, that even to state this fact
should be unnecessary. No one can be found who will deny that in the case of any single
individual the greatest prosperity can exist only when that individual has reached his highest state
of efficiency; that is, when he is turning out his largest daily output. Why is it, in the face of the
self evident fact that maximum prosperity can exist only as the result of the determined effort of
each workman to turn out each day his largest possible day s work, that the great majority of our
men are deliberately doing just the opposite, and that even when the men have the best of intentions
their work is in most

History Of The FASB
Jocelyn: What is the FASB?
The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) is a non profit association that designs and
updates the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAPs). These rigorous accounting
principles are used in the private sector during the preparation of mandatory financial reports that
are given to shareholders, the public or government agencies.
How Did the FASB Originate?
The Financial Accounting Standards Board was established in 1973 by the Securities and Exchange
Commission (SEC). Previously, there were semi standard accounting principles that were overseen
by the Accounting Principles Board (APB), which was part of the American Institute of Certified
Public Accountants (AICPA). However, unstandardized accounting... Show more content on

For example, the business entity means that commercial expenses are kept separate from personal
expenses and the monetary unit is generally the U.S. dollar. Next, there are four basic principles
that cover historic costs, revenue recognition, matching and full disclosure. For instance, the
historical cost principle mandates that companies report their asset and liability acquisition costs
instead of reporting the fair market value. On the other hand, the revenue recognition principle
states that companies must only record earned revenue, not received revenue. This forms the basis
of accrual basis accounting. Finally, there are four basic constraints, which include objectivity,
materiality, consistency and conservatism. To illustrate, the objectivity principle mandates that
financial statements produced by the company s accountants must be based on factual evidence.
Conversely, the consistency principle means that the company must use the same accounting
methodology for every accounting period. Overall, the GAAP provides structured consistency and
transparency to all aspects of accounting and financial

The Hangover Is A Comedy Film Directed By Todd Phillips
The Hangover is a comedy film directed by Todd Phillips. In the movie four friends go to Las
Vegas for their friend Doug s (Justin Bartha) bachelor party. After a crazy night of drinking,
drugs, and prostitutes the friends have lost Doug and have to find him before his wedding. The
four remaining friends are waiting for their valet to get their car, when he gets back with it they
realize they have stolen a cop car. In the following scene Alan(Zach Galifianakis), Phil(Bradley
Cooper) and Stu(Ed Helms) are arrested by the police for stealing their police car. The scene
displays the three being interrogated by two police officers a white maleOfficer Franklin(Rob
Riggle) and african american femaleOfficer Garden(Cleo King). The officers explain to Alan, Phil,
and Stu that they will not be seen by a judge until Monday, way passed the wedding date. The three
disheveled men try to explain to officers that they did not steal anything and do not recall what
happened the previous night. Both Officer Garden and Franklin screamed and cursed at the three
men for the inability to see the seriousness of the situation. Phillips shoots the scene in many
different angles, but always in a medium shot. The different angles portray who is in power in the
scene, such as an upward angle from the three friends perspective looking at Officer Franklin when
he is standing up and reprimanding them.During the scene Phillips has Officer Franklin standing at

A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings
A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings Humans have a temptation to be selfish, to try to step
over others to better themselves taking advantage of their weaknesses to reach the top. In the
story by Gabriel Garcia Marques A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings this is portray, by
showing how cruel and imperfect society can be. In the beginning of the story the weather in
Mocondo the town where the story takes place, is used as a symbol of corruption. In Mocondo is
always dark and rainy, interpreting how the villagers themselves are also dark and corrupt. An
early description of the setting in the story illustrates how in Mocondo it used to be sunny all
the time but it had become a stew of mud and rotten shellfish (Marques 406 409). Furthermore
when Elisenda and Pelayo find the Old man in the back yard, they don t know what to do so
they seek help from their neighbor. The woman neighbor had told them that he was an angel
coming for the child and that they should club him to death. This reflects how atrocious society
can be. However Elisenda and Pelayo decide not kill him but instead they settled by holding him
captive in a chicken coop while it rained all night and the chickens plugged at the already
damaged angel wings, Demonstrating once again cruelty and corruption. He wasn t valuable
enough to enter the house, the angel was treated and locked up like a worthless zoo animal. One
of the first sings of corruption is the infiltration of the crabs in Elisenda and Pelayos s

The Movie The Shawshank Redemption
This paper examines the relationship between the major motion picture, The Shawshank
Redemption s (Darabont, 1994), main character, Andy Dufresne, and the first two andragogy
assumptions of Malcolm S. Knowles (1980). Knowles assumptions are affirmed but also rebutted
from other scholars throughout the document as Andy s actions are described and connected to the
plot of the movie.
Adult Learning in the Shawshank Redemption Malcolm Knowles professed the importance of an
adult s life experiences and the close connection to the learning process (Knowles, 1980). Life
experience adds an additional layer of resources the adult learner may draw upon when presented
with new learning opportunities. When life experiences are integrated into a self directed learner,
substantial learning can occur. Andy Dufresne, the main character in the motion picture, The
Shawshank Redemption (Darabont, 1994), experienced an evolution of adult learning as he was
imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. During his nineteen years in the Shawshank Prison,
Andy, an exceptionally intelligent banker, continued to possess an independent self concept as he
adapted and transformed his learning, self directing his own escape.
Knowles Assumptions and Rebuttals
One of the six assumptions from Malcolm Knowles theory on adult learning stated the following,
1. As a person matures, his or her self concept moves from that of a dependent personality toward
one of a self directing human being (Merriam,

Comparing The Seafarer And Wife s Lament
The Exeter poems are a compilation of poems and stories written in Old English, from the Anglo
Saxons. Three of these poems have gained special notoriety: The Seafarer , The Wanderer , and
Wife s Lament . Each of these poems have a bleak tone to them, and they speak of wandering
and loss, whether it s an emotional or physical loss. Both of the speakers in The Seafarer and The
Wanderer feel emotional loss and sadness while at sea, but believe that by being faithful and
continuing on their earthly journey, they will, in the end, achieve true happiness. The wife in Wife
s Lament has suffered the physical loss of her husband, and the loss of acceptance in her
community, but unlike the previous two poems, she does not seem to think she can achieve
happiness. Three messages, or themes, from The Seafarer , The Wanderer , and Wife s Lament are
suffering, exile, love.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is fairly obvious that each of these three speakers are suffering, though in different ways. The
speaker in The Seafarer suffers from loneliness and a prolonged feeling of despair as he spends
his winter at sea, which is miserable. He feels as if he has no friends, and is truly lonely. The
speaker in The Wanderer is scarcely different. He is also at sea due to exile, and he blames his
suffering on the loneliness and rejection he feels from kinsmen. He is also friendless and lonely,
like the previous speaker, and isn t sure on how to continue on. The wife in Wife s Lament
suffers as well. Her husband has wandered away, and she grieves his absence. She also grieves
over her feeling lonely and without friends, as she was left behind while her husband wandered.
The Exeter poems each has a distinct sense of suffering coming from each of the

City Of Ember Movie And Book Comparison
Most people who have read the book may wonder what happened after Doon and Lina got above
ground and what they are doing? Or even what is going on down in the city or even if someone
got Doon and Lina s message about the exit and what they are doing about it. The City of Ember
is by Jeanne Duprau and is about these two kids named Lina and Doon. Lina found instructions
about on how to possibly leave the city. Later on they found the exit in the pipeworks but Lina
could not leave Poppy so she had to get her quick without getting caught. But before they were
accused of spreading rumors about the mayor and about how he had a room full of supplies and
Lina and Doon were not lying about it. Possibly in the next book it will tell us what happened...

This changed the perspective of the character because it left out a lot of his personality. Another
thing in the movie that it never said in the book was that the bugs were super sized. This gave
the movie a more interesting feel but I still wish that the movie went in the same track as the
book. One more thing in the movie it did not say in the book was that Lina and Doon got chased
by a giant mole creature that was hairy all over and super sized. This gave the movie a more
action like feel and it made it more fun to watch. In my opinion some of these changes made the
story more fun to watch and more action packed. But some of these changes made the movie
leave out a lot of detail and some parts and got confused because it skipped a scene in the book. I
m glad they added all these similarities because if they had not then it would have left out a lot of
information about the characters and Information about the city and plot of the movie and

Summary
The purpose of this book is to provide a detailed description of the empirically validated Helping
the Non Compliant Child (HNC) program a program created to help parents improve their children
s (ages 3 8) noncompliant and oppositional behavior.
Chapter 1 provides background information on noncompliance by discussing the role of compliance
and noncompliance in normal development and by highlighting the role of noncompliance in the
development of conduct problems early in life. The authors stress that current research ... Show

Progression to each new skill is determined by the therapist s use of behavioral criteria collected
during each session.
Chapter 4 describes the assessment methods and procedures that the therapist should use. Numerous
sample documents are provided to facilitate and standardize data collection. This data gathered
during assessment is utilized to formulate a treatment plan and, ultimately, to evaluate the success
of the treatment. When the problems present themselves in the school setting or with peers and/or
siblings, information is obtained concerning those areas as well.
Chapters 5 7 provide detailed instructions on the implementation of the HNC. Chapter 5 starts with
a description of the feedback session where the therapist presents his conceptualization of the child s
noncompliance and recommendations for intervention. A detailed sample program outline is also
provided.
In Chapter 6, the Phase I skills of differential attention attending, rewarding and ignoring are
explained in detail. As soon as the first session begins, the therapist models appropriate parenting
skills by explaining the extinction procedure (ignoring) will occur should the child interrupt the
conversation between the parent and therapist and by demonstrating positive reinforcement (attends
and rewards) should the child

Cool Worlds Effect
I don t think you need to be embarrassed about that. (We both laughed.)
No, it s funny. I will literally sometimes binge on a cartoon the way someone might binge on a
Netflix show. So it s like I watched cartoons for two or three hours. Some of the best TV I think
has been in the Japanese cartoons and their storylines. Just wild worlds cause I think there s
something really cool about an animation series if you re going to make a prime time TV series
they re getting pretty close with CGI these days, but with a cartoon, the director can say, I literally
want all this insane stuff to happen, and they can just make it happen. They wouldn t have to
worry about special effects or any of that other stuff, so they created some really, really cool

for just turning the class into a frenzy. They re both very different mediums. I love them both to
death. I would never want to trade either of them for the other. I would also say I think some of the
best character actors would make great voice actors.
Another cool thing about voice work is that it provides an opportunity to stretch my instrument in
a way I wouldn t have the opportunity to do with film. In film, you make your name in a certain
area, and then you can break out. But I don t even want to stereotype that because there are so

  • 3. Drunk History-Claudette Colvin And Rosa Parks The Art to Influence Advertisements in television, movie, drama, and every aspect of entertainment requires a series of action that appeals the audience, influences, or affects them. Various animal care centers and foster homes advertise an emotional appeal to influence the audience to visit or help the centers. Humors, sarcasms, and metaphors are the other techniques that helps the mass to influence or connect with the product. Most of the advertisement, movies and even political campaigns use a great amount of emotional (pathos), logical (logos) and ethical (ethos) beliefs to influence its audiences. The first advertisement video on the list titled, Drunk History Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks narrates the story of a black woman leading to racial injustice. During the video both Adam and Jefferson use irrelevant piece of information in newspaper to degrade each other s reputation. Such information published in the modern world is not possible since it is very inaccurate and irrelevant. The information could also only happen if the two candidates were competing in a un ethical manner in the real 1800 s. Writer Michael Austin in his book Reading The World: Ideas That Matter describes a term False dilemma as a fallacy... [of] two issues if they are only possible choices [in each] situation. (Austin 661) So, the video does not have logos on it. Also, the language used on this video is not the language the candidates would be using during elections or any time of their life. There are many industrial operations that cause contamination in ground water, due to the large quantities of chemicals used. • 8. Descriptive Essay About A Puppy Running faster than the speed of light, a cute puppy came rushing toward me as we were playing in the backyard. With no intention of stopping, the biggest puppy I ve ever seen in my life ran head first hitting the top of my mouth¬―chipping my tooth. The puppy s name was Bruno. A big brown playful puppy with a line of white fur running from the middle of his eyes to the top of his nose on his face. I loved Bruno, but he was not the first pitbull puppy that I ve had. When I was in Idyllwild on a family trip to play in the snow one day, we stopped at a convenience store to get something to snack on and drink. When we walked inside there was a man walking around trying to sell a pitbull puppy with faint black spots hidden behind his fuzzy white fur. It was close to my step brother s birthday at the time, and he wanted the puppy as an early birthday present. My step brother, Nathaniel, wasn t the only one who wanted that puppy. In truth, the rest of my family on this trip also wanted the puppy. As we left Idyllwild that day, we left with one more puppy than we came with. At the time, the puppy s name was Carlitos, but we decided to name him Rosco instead. Rosco rarely wanted to play with me because he loved my step brother so much more than he did me, or anyone else for that matter. In fact, Nathaniel was the only person who Rosco would run around and jump on whenever he was in his presence. • 9. Arthur Dimmesdale s Guilt and Hypocrisy Essay Arthur Dimmesdale s Guilt and Hypocrisy By Ashlyn R. Thomas In Nathaniel Hawthorne s gripping tale, The Scarlet Letter, a revered Puritan minister suffers from cowardly guilt and hypocrisy after he commits adultery in this novel staged in the seventeenth century. Arthur Dimmesdale, who hides himself in the shame of his lover, Hester Prynne, protects his reputation among the Puritan people. The scaffold, a public symbol of disgrace, contrasts with the pastor s silent sin of adultery. When Hester became a symbol of sin among the people and wore the scarlet letter as punishment, Dimmesdale bears a sinner s masked mark in his heart. Shrieking aloud like those suffering souls who turn away from the face of God, Dimmesdale felt little relief from the iron chains of guilt and hypocrisy. Longing to free his guilty soul, Dimmesdale stood on the scaffold imagining Hester s disgrace. Illustrating his inner conflicts, Dimmesdale had expressed himself by screaming aloud. Immediate horror encompassed him because he is afraid of being discovered by the town. Alone in the abyss of darkness, upon the pedestal of shame, Dimmesdale found little relief in his private confession in the second scaffold scene. Finally, a few days later, Dimmesdale confesses his sin publicly in the third scaffold scene, showing his repentance and thereby finding relief from guilt and hypocrisy. Allowing his sin to fester in his heart for over seven years, Dimmesdale, now a dying man from sin, decided to ascend the scaffold. Dimmesdale, understanding that he, a dying man, sought mercy and forgiveness, and climbed the pedestal in guilty remorse. Ye that have loved me! ye, that have deemed me holy! behold me here, the one sinner of the world! At last I stand upon the spot where seven years since, I should have stood! 3 Beckoning Hester and their child, Pearl, to his side, Dimmesdale s voice strengthened. As he confesses, the people recognized Dimmesdale bore the same stigma that marked Hester. Dimmesdale asks for forgiveness, therefore completing his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Evidence In Mandel s Evidence The set of archive images that constitute Sultan and Mandel s Evidence, were the culmination of two years research within an array of government agencies, educational institutions and corporations: from the Aeronutronic Ford Corporation, Newport Beach to the Veterans Administration Hospital, Palo Alto. The artists were granted access to millions of photographs within these spaces and therein embarked on a critical process of appropriation. As Sultan states, Mike and I, through the act of selection, became authors (BAMPFA, 2012). Throughout the work we are focused on the notion of the photographas index: the trace of a footprint on wet paving slabs, a passport photo next to a hand print in sand. Despite this very specific reference the status of the photograph, as an empiric document, is continually questioned, not least in the title of the work. The concept of... The photographs seem to have a transparent nature that is illustrative, but in the context of the artwork, devoid of the original information structure they once had, they are weird and fascinating. We are directed to experiments, to physical journeys into the substrata of spaces, into tunnels, down holes, into freezing basements, inside machines. The focus of an object within some of the photographs may be intended for post production cropping. • 12. Analysis Of The Film Gladiators The film Gladiators was about the reign or Marcus Aurelius coming to an end. When Marcus chooses Maximus, an army general and a powerful man with good morals, over his own son Commodus, to be heir to the throne of the Roman Empire, Commodus is enraged and sentences Maximus and his family to death. Maximus escapes his death sentence but is unable to save his family. The loss of his family causes his willpower to disappear which allows him to be captured and put into the games of the Gladiators until death. The only thing keeping him fighting is that he has a chance to rise to the top and take revenge on the man who destroyed everything he loved, the new emperor Commodus. In my opinion, I would say the protagonist of this film was Maximus by far. Maximus was an army general with good morals, a strong man who cared for others, a family man who would do anything for the ones he loved, but most of all, he had courage. He wasn t afraid to do what needed to be done when it was necessary. In the film, Maximus said something along the lines of I am required to kill when it is necessary, not for enjoyment. For an officer to make an arrest, he or she must have more than a mere hunch yet less than actual knowledge that the arrestee committed the crime (Peak, 2009). Law enforcement officers need to make certain they understand probable cause is different than reasonable suspicion. A good example of a reasonable suspicion encounter is Terry V. Ohio, where an officer who had 39 years of experience in law enforcement observed two men standing on a street corner. My probable cause could be speeding, reckless driving or any traffic violation in the traffic law manual. Once probable cause is established then contact is made with the driver. If there is reason to believe that there is more than a traffic violation, such as an officer smelling marijuana inside the vehicle, then he or she can now have access into the vehicle. My probable cause to get into the vehicle is based on my training and experience that there was or is illegal narcotics inside the vehicle. If there is no probable cause to get into the vehicle and an officer feels there is more to the traffic stop than speeding, then the officer needs to build his reasonable suspicion to figure out what the driver is up to. If they both work for 60 hours, the woman earns 21.7% less than the man ( Sexism ). Some men, and even some women, treat women unfairly because today s society says women belong at home with the kids. There have been several worldwide instances of women being treated like they are incompetent if they conform to their genderroles and incompetent if they do not. If a man becomes an authoritative figure, he is seen as influential. However, if a woman earns some kind of authority, she will be overbearing and bossy. It can be very difficult for women to achieve higher positions and if she does, her co workers might think she had been intimate with an employer. In the subject of skill, if a man is better at his job than a woman, it is only natural. Racial Differences In Ta-Nehisi Coates s Sonny s Blues In Between the World and Me, Ta Nehisi Coates depicts how an African American man should behave in America based on other people s perception of their race. In the essay, he speaks to his son about how a black man is obligated to be twice as good and how a black man takes responsibility for another black man. Coates highlights the expectations of black peopleand the struggle to go beyond what society has labeled them as because of their differences in skin color and the stereotypes that the majority has perceived them as. In relation to social differences, James Baldwin s Sonny s Blues, expresses how differences in livelihood metal in between relationships and growth. The narrator in the story fails to broaden his mindset that his brother, Sonny, can change from his drug addiction and that his students have more a chance to end up like Sonny rather than making a positive impact on their lives. My own claim is that alien stories have hidden meanings of cultural and racial differences to the extent of showing how stereotypes negatively alter one s mindset of how they will behave towards another group of people because of the differences they hold. I believe that an individual thinks they have superiority over another and that is why negative connotations are made. Compiled in 1854 by Louis Haghe, Joseph Nash and David Roberts, Dickinson s Comprehensive Pictures of the Great Exhibition of 1851 reveals large amounts of information regarding exhibitionary cultures in the nineteenth century. The catalogue was produced for Prince Albert, who was the patron of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce. This source suggests the Great Exhibitionfollowed a similar trend how museums mainly operated in the nineteenth century. Most images in the catalogue represent the Victorian notion of progress, making visitors react a certain way to exhibits and also influencing behaviour generally throughout the museum to the same way that Foucault shows with the concept of the Panopticon. Using the images of Moving Machinery, General View of the Exterior of the Building and The Transept in the Comprehensive Pictures catalogue, this essay will analyse each of these images to show their revelation of exhibitionary cultures, which means to critically understand attitudes to the way which museums operate exhibitions. It will also examine how historians responded to the historiographical debate surrounding the Great Exhibition, and argues that the Great Exhibition was generally successful and that it had a mainstream exhibitionary culture compared with other museums in the nineteenth century. James Madison And Federalist Paper No Although James Madison despised factions as explained in Federalist Paper No. 10, Madison believed factions were an essential part of government, that needed to be revised through careful governmental intervention. Madison was careful to ensure his vision for the country s future would protect the given right to liberty; therefore he found in the Constitution multiple outlets for these factions to dissolve. However, the government itself was corrupt so the three branches had to be separated to prevent tyranny and be successful in stopping the dangerous factions. A faction by definition is a small, organized, dissenting group within a larger one, especially in politics. These groups are often wound together based off some principle they believe relates to them in some way or another. Madison thought most factions existed through unequal property distribution. Write An Essay On The Dust Bowl Imagine you lived during the time period where poor farming techniques were created, and dust was being deposited or dropped into your lungs, forcing you to walk slowly down the steps of death. The phenomenon, the Dust Bowl, took place in the United States during the years around the 1930 s. It was an event that occurred in the United States, where the area it was taken place did not have moist soil, healthy crops, and a considerable amount of water. During this time, the soil was poor, meaning there was a small amount of nutrients in it. From this, it caused the seeds being planted to wilt, and die.. The Confrontation Between Blanche And Stanley Abraxa Lee Professor Lukomski English 111 December 3rd, 2014 The Winner Takes It All: The Confrontation between Blanche and Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire Tennessee Williams s A Streetcar Named Desire portrays a dog eat dog world, in which the winner takes it all: a person not just watches out closely for his/her own interest but also preys on the weak. This portrayal is mostly embodied in the confrontation between Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski, the two major characters in the play. The confrontation partly arises from difference in class, Blanche from high society while Stanley from low one. But most noteworthy is that the element that contributes the most to this confrontation is their desires for sex, money, revenge, and even survival of life. Over time, the tension between Blanche and Stanley grows to a climax and eventually goes down with Blanche, the weak, losing the battle while Stanley, the strong, standing out as the victor and taking away Blanche s soul and body. Given this, in this dog eat dog showdown there exists ambiguous moments: Is the physical contact between Blanche and Stanley a rape, a date, or a rape date? A look into this issue is in order. • 39. Analytical Essay On The Waterfront In the realist film, On The Waterfront, Elia Kazan offers the audience an exploration of what it means to value individual conscience in the pursuit of justice. Set across from New York City, Kazan s tense expose of organised corruption in the 1950 s follows the protagonist, Terry Malloy, as he struggles to choose between his loyalties in a world filled with dishonesty and trepidation. Although it may seem that many of the characters are bound to silence by fear and corruption, Kazan implies that a strong moral presence can motivate others to help their community by exposing the facts to the public . Kazan suggests that poverty and corruption can lead people to live in fear of those in power, as well as how people may feel obliged to be loyal to those have helped them in the past. In addition to this, Kazan conveys that a strong moral voice can be enough to catalyse change in a community. Through the exploitation of the workers on the docks, Kazan highlights how power and corruption can drive people towards keeping silent about things they know are morally inacceptable. Set in Hoboken, the New York skyline constantly appears in the distance to represent the American dream. However, it is always masked by a layer of fog and separated from the workers by a tall, metal fence. Therefore, Kazan implies that, despite the idea that everyone should have an equal opportunity to prosper and live comfortably, the American dream is obscured and unreachable for the longshoremen working on the docks, with one worker even claiming: I m poorer now than when I started . Kazan further demonstrates this view through his portrayal of Johnny Friendly and the Mob, who prevent the workers from reaching this ideal. For example, when Father Barry first appears at the docks, one of Johnny Friendly s men is taunting the workers, questioning: What s the matter? Nobody want to work today? before leaving the workers frantically scrabbling for a token and the chance to get a day s work. This suggests that the longshoremen are like pigeons searching for their day s feed, powerless against the hawks watching from above who will be right down on them if they dare to speak out against them. As a consequence, Kazan implies that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Adult Learning in the Shawshank Redemption Malcolm Knowles professed the importance of an adult s life experiences and the close connection to the learning process (Knowles, 1980). Life experience adds an additional layer of resources the adult learner may draw upon when presented with new learning opportunities. When life experiences are integrated into a self directed learner, substantial learning can occur. Andy Dufresne, the main character in the motion picture, The Shawshank Redemption (Darabont, 1994), experienced an evolution of adult learning as he was imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. During his nineteen years in the Shawshank Prison, Andy, an exceptionally intelligent banker, continued to possess an independent self concept as he adapted and transformed his learning, self directing his own escape.
