Medieval Theatre was a source of education and reflection for the residents of the Middle Ages.
Serving as an inspiration for Renaissance plays, it took centuries of evolution for Medieval to
accommodate themes outside of the Bible. Theatre in the Middle Ages was an enemy of the
Catholic Church, who tried to terminate these performances. Unusually, the Catholic Church played
a significant role in the development of Medieval Theatre. Although plays were limited to the
themes of the Bible for a long period of time, bizarre masks, costumes and great structuring of
stages were used.
Following the collapse of the Roman Empire, a small group of performers travelled to various
destinations to entertain audiences about all aspects of life. They toured countries and many
regions to tell stories, play music and even perform acrobatic arts. Wherever they went, festivals
emerged. This caused commotion between Religious practitioners, who tried to convert the
performers and end their performances which were deemed sinful. The Catholic Church, which
was highly responsible for the growth of Medieval Theatre, offered a service. This service provided
the dramatization of Biblical stories which were held on church premises. It was not until the 13th

Tragedies across Time
In our modern language, the word tragedy has become a word that describes mundane incidents that
are negative. At the most, a tragedy is used describe horrific event that involves severe misfortune;
however, when comes to the theatre term, the definition of tragedy is much more specific then the
modern use of the word. In essence, a tragedy depending on the time and place was used to tell the
tale of tragic hero and the flaw that contributed his eventual downfall. Unfortunately, this too
simple of an answer. Shakespearean and Aristotelian tragedy are the most widely excepted forms of
theatric tragedy, yet their execution and their method of exposition have major difference which
greatly effects the interpretation of the story.
To understand the differences between Shakespearean and Aristotelian tragedy, first it is important
to understand each style individually. Starting first with the oldest form, Aristotelian Tragedy, the
key of understanding is to understand its origins. B.L. Ullman, the mention of tragedy by Aristotle

A Perfectionist in Nathanial Hawthorne s The Birthmark
People are obsessed with making everything perfect. Nathanial Hawthorne seemed to think that
the imperfections created by God should not be fixed by the will of man. In The Birthmark , he
conveys this view through symbolism, imagery, and characterization. Symbolism is scattered
throughout the work. The most obvious is the shape that the birthmark is in: a hand. It is meant
to represent the hand that God has in every formation of beauty, imperfections included. Because
of this connection to God, it is supposed to be accepted and seen as beautiful. However, Aylmer
cannot see the beauty underneath. There are also the speaking of the freckles and the ability of
the solution to be washed away as easily as the hands are cleansed (221). Old folklore says that

Phytoplankton are microscopic photosynthesising organisms which live in water. In favourable
environmental conditions they have a very high rate of reproduction. They are eaten by
microscopic animals called zooplankton. In an investigation, samples of water were removed from
a lake at intervals over a twelve month period and the biomasses of these organisms were
determined. The results are shown in the graph.

Euthanasia and physician assisted suicide are actions at the core of what it means to be human the
moral and ethical actions that make us who we are, or who we ought to be. Euthanasia, a subject
known in the twenty first century, is subject to many discussions about ethical permissibility, which
date back to as far as ancient Greece and Rome. It was not until the Hippocratic School removed the
practice of euthanasiaand assisted suicidefrom medical practice. Euthanasia in itself raises many
ethical dilemmas such as, is it ethical for a doctor to assist a terminally ill patient in ending his life?
Under what circumstances, if any, is euthanasia considered ethically appropriate? More so,

The best solution to the Somali Piracy problem is targeting networks which involves keeping the
pirates under constant watch and control. Targeting networks is a system where the government
tracks the pirates in Somalia and tracks everything they do to make sure they don t go back onto the
waters. This is similar to the way that the United States combats organized crime. Authorities would
monitor bank accounts, engage in direct and electronic surveillance, and aggressively pursue
frequent offenders (Thomas). If the pirates were under constant surveillance, they would be less

populated surrounding areas that are economically and socially linked to it. The criteria of
defining metropolitan areas changed in 2003. Smaller MSAs remained the same, but larger

There has always been a debate on what kind of teaching styles work best, what the best
curriculum to teach is, or how to effectively organize your classroom. Yet, nobody has discovered
what the most effective teaching methods are. As future teachers, we must constantly be making
decisions that will shape us into the teacher we would like to become. Over the course of the next
four years, and even once we become teachers with classrooms of our own, we will be exposed to
many different teachingmethods and strategies. There is no one right or wrong way to teach, and it
is up to us to decide how we would like to structure our classroom. While there are many teaching
styles, it seems that there is predominantly two types of teachers according to John Dewey: those
that are reflective, and those that are not. Unreflective teachers tend to accept the routines that are
given to them by the schoolthey are working for. They spend their days working to solve problems
who have been created by others for them. Reflective teachers on the other hand, are constantly
evaluating their beliefs, teaching methods and behaviors and modifying those things so that it

a more elaborate method known as compost extraction (Trautman).

lettuce and coffee grounds. If your pH reading is between 6 and 7.5, most plants will do well in this

One of the most interesting, and sometimes most frustrating, traits of the phenomenon of
nationalism and the nation is the fact that it has no single, clear definition for the subject upon
which all authorities in the field agree. From what a nation is to what kindles the flame of
nationalism that gives birth to them, every scholar to pick up the pen on the topic has their own
view and their own answers to the various questions. This essay will be looking at some of those
views and examining the role of industrialisation, the modern state and ethnicity in nationbuilding.
Some of the approaches outlined will be illustrated through the real world cases of Britain and the
Kurds.
In the study of nationalism, one of the major schools of thought is the Modernist one, represented
by scholars such as Michael Mann, John Breuilly and of course Ernest Gellner. As their name
suggests, modernists adamantly claim that nationalism is something that is entirely a feature of
modern society. More specifically, modernism argues that nationalism emerged with the birth of the
modern nation state, which is to say, following the French Revolution of 1789. Modernism claims
that nationalism will not take root in societies that lack a supreme authority to maintain the unity
and stability, and a strong industrial economy. In the view of most modernist scholars, nationalism
and the symbols it utilises in the process of nation building are but a method of top down control.

create the Third Side. Each of the roles has a specific job in promoting peace and interrupting
conflict. Together the roles will help end conflict in the world if used correctly, Reading through
Ury s book, I was able to make many connections to what we learned in class. The Third Side
supports the change for peace we need to see in this role, and we will all find ourselves in one of
the ten roles. The Third Side applies to this class and will make a change in the future. The first
three roles focus on conflict prevention. These roles look to address the root of conflict and lay
down the foundation for peaceful conflict resolution. The first role is the Provider, who enables
people to meet their needs which include food, safety, identity, and freedom. At the beginning of
the semester, we read The Dynamics of Conflict Resolution by Bernard Mayer. Mayer writes that
at the center of conflict is human needs. Mayer also points out, Conflict cannot be transformed or

Firstly, the two women, Jules and Dana, are defined as The Whore and The Virgin which is two
opposite ends of the spectrum whose deaths are meant to serve as bookends for the others. The

Adam and Eve and Virgin of the Rosary both have their roots set in religion. Adam and Eve is
one of the oldest stories in the world. The Virgin of the Rosary depicts one of the icons of the
Christian religion who beared the savior of the world Jesus Christ. Both pieces tell a story,
different but connected. The bible connects these two pieces both stories of creation. Both
represent the start of a new world of sorts. Adam and Eve Virgin of the Rosary
Adam and Eve by Albrecht Durer (1507) depicts the story of Adam and Eve reimagined with new
meanings and with artistic changes. Adam and Eve are standing together in a forest that seems to
be far removed from the Garden of Eden and seems to be German and seems to eerily resemble a
Grimm fairy tale. Even though the forest seems to be cold Adam and Eve stand naked, and stand
in a classical pose (where the person puts their weight onto one foot). The piece represents

The Destructors The Destructors is a short fiction story by Graham Greene. The setting of the
story is in London 9 years after the conclusion of World War II. The short story has to do with a
group of teenage boys who call themselves the Wormsley Common gang, named after the area

experience with the play, Cosi Fan Tutte was somewhat similar to the events described above.
Although Cosi Fan Tutte attempts to establish itself in the hearts of the crowd through its talented
and experienced cast, it ultimately fails due to its tediously repetitive song structure and narrow
intended audience. The adeptness and dexterity of an individual have always been fundamental
talents to look for when viewing a performance. These individuals are the one that help the event
advance to success. When it comes to the qualities mentioned above, the cast of Cosi Fan Tutte
definitely possess most. Because Cosi Fan Tutte is a performance written by Mozart, it comes as
no surprise that the level of singingand acting required is highly demanding even for veterans in
the industry. Yet, despite all these hurdles, the cast of the performance is able to captivate and
delight the audience through its outstanding vocal finesse and entertaining characterization.
