Black Panthers Social Movement
The Social Movement of the Black Panthers Historically and currently, community organizing has
been a vehicle used collectively to address issues on a larger scale in order to challenge injustices,
discrimination, and inequalities. Injustices based on race and class has been prevalent since the advent
of Columbus. Considerably, community organizing is an effective means for seeking change in one s
community cooperatively. Efforts to bring about change are usually engaged in the framework or
setting of a social movement. Dr. King, noted, The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands
in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

The tone of the civil rights movement shifted when the Black Panther movement gave birth to a new
revolution as means for survival. The premise of the Panthers was to banish the brutality members
among minority communities faced at the hands of a corrupt society, mainly the police department.
The pointless violence endured by blacks by unjust policing was a means to challenge and address
society ills. The Black Panther movement formulated plan was to gain community control, by any
means. It s concentration on the liberties of African Americans and those who were oppressed by the
dominant system became a goal of the party. The Black Panthers were committed to a revolutionary
idea of politics which acted on armed self defense tactics. Armed self defense was guaranteed by the
constitution and the Black panther used this right in their benefit to exercise their stance. Gun in tow
and their law books in hand, were their signature. Injustices were countered head on and met with
strong defense. The movement implements a ten point program and platform of ideas. The ten point
platform illustrated the physical needs and the philosophical principles of the

Essay On Chaos And Transformational Disorder
CHAOS AND MENTAL DISORDER In 1992 Freeman has suggested the use of complexity for the
study of schizophrenia and mood instability in bipolar disorders. (Freeman, 1992). According to
Freeman, chaos underlies the brain s ability to respond flexibly to the outside world and to generate a
rich variety of patterns, including those that are experienced as new ideas. Chaos thus expresses the
unpredictable underlying order of attractors and allows the complex behavior observed in the brain.
The dynamics of the underlying attractor reconstructed from the EEG data by using the coordinates
delay technique proved to be chaotic in nature. Preliminary results suggested that a separate chaotic
attractor is maintained for each stimulation and perception act is constituted by phase ... Show more

This is correlated with changes in the spatiotemporal patterns of activity of chaotic systems (Freeman,
1999). Other studies suggest a relationship of chaotic dynamics with a wide range of cognitive
phenomena connected with characteristic changes during the manifestations of mental disorders such
as depression or schizophrenia (Gottschalk et al., 1995) (Barton, 1994) (Huber et al.,1999), (Korn
Faure, 2003), (Melancon et al., 2000), (Paulus Braff, 2003). There are studies that attribute the chaotic
transitions to dissociative states in psychopathology. They propose hypotheses relating the process of
dissociation with the chaotic dynamics generated by discrete maps (Putnam, 1997). In another
example, the chaotic transitions are related dissociative states in the brain (Bob, 2003; 2007) to be
noted that transitions which occur in the activation of different sets of neurons obey patterns that can
be identified with chaos. As a last example, not much different than the above, the comparison is made
of the behavioral observations of individuals and not their

The Pros And Cons Of Factory Farming
William s paper addresses the moral risk that is posed when people decide to intentionally remain
ignorant to avoid a possible ethical crisis. She then elaborates on how this choice manifests itself in
four different types of affected ignorance. She bases her belief that factory farming is wrong using
deontology and utilitarianism because animals deserve respect as well as the ability to exist without
pain that is atypical from a natural life. Her argument is that when we chose affected ignorance, we
then become subject the possibility of moral risk if we identify that factory farming is morally wrong
and continue to support it. I agree with her argument, but believe that it could be strengthened by
developing the idea of how affected ignorance is a symptom of being weak willed.
Williams begins with the idea that we do not ask questions about what happens with factory farming
and that therefore makes us culpable for the disrespect that is administered to the animals while
harvesting the products. The choice of remaining in the dark puts the person at fault due to the fact
that animals in factory farming are also subjected to pain for the purpose of cheap meat to speed up
the process. She defines the act of staying in the dark as affected ignorance and identifies four
different ways that affected ignorance manifests itself in our lives. The first, being the refusal to
acknowledge the moral impacts imposed on the animals in the factory farming business. The second

John Williams s Soundtrack for Harry Potter
Adventure, mystery, and magic all go hand in hand when it comes to the Harry Potter series written by
J.K. Rowling. The books were adapted into films starting in 2001. The first film, Harry Potter and the
Sorcerer s Stone, was directed by Chris Columbus. The story of Harry Potter is magical as is however;
the movie needed a little extra magic. This extra magic needed to be added through music. Director
Chris Columbus chose John Williams to compose the music for a promotional reel (John Williams).
After Columbus heard the song for the promotional reel he knew they had to have Williams compose
the entire movie (John Williams). Williams created an entire score for the movie and called it The
Harry Potter Suite. The Harry Potter Suite has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to portray this cornucopia Williams created what he called a small wizard orchestra (The
Harry Potter Suite). This wizard orchestra contained instruments such as: flutes, recorders, violins,
tambourines, triangles, xylophone, bells, harps, and cellos (). All of these instruments created a
brilliant tune. In Diagon Alley, the music is light, whimsical, and quick which mimics the atmosphere
of Diagon Alley. The music turns back to a curious, mysterious, majestic song when Harry and Hagrid
enter Gringotts bank because there are mysterious creatures in Gringotts called Goblins. When Harry
sees all of the money that his parents left him in Gringotts the music sounds like it sparkles just like
the gold coins sparkle in the film. The song changes again when Hagrid retrieves a peculiar item from
vault 713 in the bank. The music turns mysterious and secretive. The music in the scene about Diagon
Alley perfectly mimics the events and the atmosphere of the scene and helps tells the story. There is a
sport in the magical world of Harry Potter called Quidditch. Harry ends up playing of the Quidditch
team as a seeker, which is a player who finds a tiny, gold ball that flies through the air and the seeker
must catch it in order to win the match. The Quidditch match in the film is an exhilarating part of the
film. The entire school is at the match to watch the games. The crowd is excited which excites the
audience watching.

Being a dip plant, Cranberry Bush produces high concentrated fruit filled with nutrition. Since very
little seed can take root, nature has ensured that each berry is packed with as many nutrients as
possible.
Why is Cranberry juice good for you?

Just you know, cranberry juice is acidic. Despite the whole alkaline / acidic myth, we recommend
using cranberry juice as part of a healthy diet. The reason for this is that our urine should be acidic.
This means that our kidneys are working properly and filter toxins.
Acidic nature also helps to reduce bacteria in the urethra, there is almost no chance of being infected
in a healthy, acidic urine. It only happens when processed foods, fake alkaline water, and bad dosage
are bombarded on our bodies, which are unable to keep our urine away from the bacteria.
Types of Cranberry Juice
Unfortunately, the majority of cranberry juice goes into making mixes and cocktails. The juice you
buy in grocery stores is not pure, is filled with sugars and chemicals, and is often so thin that no health
benefits have been left to her. In addition, the pasteurization process destroys healthy antioxidants.

It can be used on all tissues and it helps Pathologists identify the cytoplasmic and nuclear structure of
a cell. More specific stains seek to answer other questions specific to the patient s condition. For
example, an Iron stain may be required in a patient who underwent a liver biopsy looking for a disease
such as Hemochromatosis or other iron storage condition. Other types of special stains may be
necessary to examine the tissue for infection. An example would be in a lung biopsy where the patient
may have a fungus infection such as Aspergillous. A special stain of PAS/Light Green may be utilized
to bring out the fungus if present which may not be evident on routine H E stains. In the 21st century,
molecular markers are currently in vogue. Breast cancer requires a number of immunohistochemical
markers such as Estrogen and Progesterone. These special stains are looking for the antibody to
Estrogen or Progresterone in the patient s breast cancer tissue. If this is present, the Oncologist may
treat the patient with certain drugs like Tamoxifin. Herceptin may be used in patient s who have a
positive Her2neu antibody. This may be measured by standard immunohistochemistry as in Estrogen
or Progesterone measurements. The alternative is to use a molecular testing to quantify the receptors
of Her2neu receptors. The above simply illustrates in the most basic way a most complex topic
utilizing whole tissue samples. Many times large tissue samples

Martin Luther King Jr Qualities
When people think of great leaders there is only one that comes to mind and that is the great leader
Martin Luther King Junior. Martin Luther Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia as
Michael King Junior (1). As a child Martin was raised very strictly by his religious father and kind
mother. His father, Michael King Sr., while growing up was very strict in order to protect his kids
from racism and prejudice. Although king s father tried to protect his kids, no disciplinary action could
shield them from the harsh and judging world around them. later on in Martin Luther King Jr. s life he

spent in Birmingham jail had solidified him as a leader who never gave up on the cause. One of the
many good qualities of a leader is never giving up no matter how many times you fall. King showed
just that, it was not his first time being incarcerated but his 13th time (4). The civil rights leader was at
a protest in Birmingham, Alabama when he was arrested for having a public gathering without a
permit. When King was arrested he was thrown into solitary confinement without access to a lawyer
or contact with his wife. Shortly after his arrest he had received letters from local Christians criticizing
King. The responses to those people are greatly known today as Letters from Birmingham Jail . In the
response letters he showed great intelligence, sense of justice, and love towards the people against
him. He wrote the response letters without any resources, since he was in jail, and yet wrote the letters
with such elegance. Martin Luther King Jr. had perfectly quoted great religious philosopher from
memory and made an impact to the nation. The civil rights activist was not just writing a letter to the
people who wrote to him but to the entire country. According to King s Letters from Birmingham Jail
he states, So the question is not whether we will be extremist but what kind of extremist will we be.
Will we be extremists for hate or will we be extremists for love? Will we be extremists for the
preservation of injustice or will we be

The Issue Of Child Labor
The issue of child labor has drawn significant attention since early 1990s as many labor union and
special interest groups advocate banning import of goods produced by the child labor in developing
countries and the international consensus in the form of Convention on the Right of the Child (CRC)
which is widely ratified in 1989 by countries (Boyden, Ling and Myers, 1998). However, concern
regarding child labor is not new and can be dated back to industrial revolution, especially late
eighteenth and early nineteenth century, in England many parents were helpless but to send their
children to work to cope the increasing poverty and inequality. (Horrell and Humphries, 1995;
Edmonds, 2007). Nevertheless, before the industrial revolution and ... Show more content on

There have been steady decline in the incidence of child s exposure to hazardous work and child labor
on balance. However, the recent estimates of child labor are still astonishingly high and the trend
predict even slower pace of decline in child labor. According to ILO report in 2012, for age group 5 17
years 16.7 percent (or 264,427 in absolute number) of children are in some form of employment, 10.6
percent (equivalently 167,956) is considered as child labor, and 5.4 percent (equivalently 85,344) is
involved in hazardous work. Although these figures are lower than the corresponding figures in 2000,
the absolute numbers of child labor are still very high (ILO 2013). Policy measures adopted to reduce
child labor are derived from an increasing number of theoretical and empirical research on this issue
specially since late 1990s. Theoretical studies use the household decision making model to explain the
incidence of child labor and attempt to find the determinants of child labor. Initial models that attempt
to explain the phenomenon of child labor assume an exploitative household where child is considered
household s asset and parents are the sole decision maker who maximizes their welfare disregarding
the welfare of child. In these models parents are selfish and child labor is chosen if it maximizes
household welfare which may disregard

A International Company s Workers Human Rights Through...
Introduction Globalization is defined as the act of globalizing, or extending to other or all parts of the
world. In other words, globalization is that the world has experienced two great waves of gobalization
driven by the free trade policies of major trading countries and falling transportation costs.
The first wave was from roughly the down of the Industrial Revolution in the 19 Century to World
War I, and the second has run since 1947. International trade and international migration grew
substantially during the first wave, but world trade increased even more rapidly during the first 25
years of the World War II wave. Both periods of gobalization faced significant suspicion about the
results of globalization for labor conditions. (Globalization and Labor Conditions, Robert J. Flanagan,
2006)
Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to compare the international company s workers human rights
through the influence of the international trade.
Over the past decade, China has been an attractive destination for global corporations due to its low
wage rates and labor laws that disallow independent trade unions and limit the right to strike.
Recently, Chinese industrial workers have been pushing back, demanding better wages, hours and
working conditions. Collective action by Chinese workers, including strikes, has been successful in
many cases and is bringing Chinese employers to the bargaining table As a result, China s industrial

Essay on Book VII of the Nichomachean Ethics by Aristotle
Book VII of the Nichomachean Ethics by Aristotle
Introduction
In book seven of the Nicomachean Ethics, Aristotle sets out his theory of akrasia, or weakness of will.
Aristotle attempts to explain both how such actions are possible (contra Socrates), and how we can
dissolve the puzzles (aporiai) generated by our most important (kurios) commonly held beliefs, which
arise in response to the actions of the incontinent person. This paper will review book VII of the
Nichomachean Ethics (EN), and attempt to resolve some of the remaining questions left open by
Aristotle s critique.

Incontinence, basically, is when a person knows (or perhaps merely believes) that he or she ought to
do x, since x is the decision formed from a rational desire for some good end, but instead does y. For
example, consider a case in which one believes that eating a healthy meal is desirable and good as an
end in itself, resulting in the decision that to partake of the healthy meal in front of oneself is the best
way to achieve that end. However, imagine that right next to the healthy meal is a large plate of
various sweets and chocolates, the eating of which appeals only to one s appetite or nonrational
desires. According to Aristotle, the continent man will have the nonrational desire to eat the plate of
sweets, but will resist it and instead proceed to eat the healthy meal. The incontinent man, however,
will relinquish his decision and succumb to his nonrational desire to indulge himself (1145b9 14).
The Puzzles of Incontinence
As alluded to earlier, one aim of Aristotle s dialectical method of inquiry was to resolve certain
puzzles that arise from conjoining the common majority s beliefs with that of careful reflection, in the
hopes of revealing the truth of the most important of the most common beliefs (1145b6). He states that
we must prove the common beliefs about these ways of being affected... For if

(Body Paragraph: General Information on self devaluation) Now that we are better able to
comprehend self stigma we can focus on the affects that impact patients lives negatively. It is
imperative to note that the discrimination of schizophrenic persons gives birth to self devaluation.
With that said, schizophrenic persons who experience discrimination in his or her life will feel distant
from society, similar to being an outcast or a black sheep. This may be the reason why self stigma
generates lower self esteem and lower self efficacy which drastically lowers quality of life. In
addition, self devaluation leads to a decreased readiness to change and an increased declination of
treatment within the behavior of patients. By increasing our knowledge on the subject and increasing
awareness we can combat internalized stigma. (Body Paragraph: Study(s) done examining self

Confilcting Ideas of the Past in Canada
He has been called a prophet, a traitor, a martyr, a visionary and a madman, but whatever one thinks of
him, Louis Riel, remains one of the most controversial figures in Canadian history. Does this man who
has continued to haunt Canadian history for more than a century after his execution, deserve all of
those descriptions? After reading three different interpretations of the rebellions, it is still difficult to
decide which is closer to the truth. All three authors retold the Metis history and although they differ
on crucial issues, there was agreement on the basic facts. The primary difference amongst the three
authors was whether the Canadian and Manitoban governments acted in good faith ... Show more

Stanley believes that up until the execution of Thomas Scott, the Red River Rebellion was relatively
non violent and the government probably would have forgiven the Metis indiscretions, because they
even continued to follow the process of conciliation through to the passage of the Manitoba Act.
Although Scott deserved some sort of punishment for his actions against the Metis people, his actions
hardly deserved the death penalty. 2
The execution of Scott was a huge faux pas on the part of the Metis officials and it invited terrible
reprisals from the government. John A. MacDonald certainly could not ignore the execution because
half the people of his newly formed country were calling for the head of Riel. The rebellions from

Ira L. Baldwin Review Ira Baldwin was born in the state of Indiana in 1895. His youth was spent on a
40 acre farm that his family owned. Growing up on a farm gave Baldwin a unique perspective. He saw
the devastation of what insects and pest could do to their crops. To pay his way through college, he did
what many farmers sons would do. He sold ducks and husked corn in order to get the money he
needed.
Baldwin had many accomplishments during his lifetime. He attended Purdue and then the University
of Wisconsin, Madison where he obtained his PHD. He later became faculty at the college as an
agriculture bacteriologist. He wrote an article called Chemicals and Pests. He was also the director of
the biological weapons program during World War II. After the war, he became the Vice President of
academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin. Someone who has these achievements must be highly
respected in their field.
As many public issues began to arise over the use of pesticides, Rachel Carson published Silent
Spring. Ira Baldwin reviewed the book revealing that it is one sided and only tells the negative side of
using pesticides. She did significant research on the issues that go along with the use of pesticides but
left out the entirety of the benefits and contributions of their use. It does nothing to indicate all of the
positive ways that pesticides benefit the lives of humans daily. In his article, Ira says, I can understand

History And Philosophy Midterm Paper
Philosophy Midterm Paper For centuries scientists have been studying everything from evolution to
space. During that time, there have also been projects upon projects that were taken on by new,
emerging scientists who will continue the work of the teams who came before them. Each new team
brings a new discovery. Something that was previously just a question, such as what makes us water
different than dirt? , has now been answered due to dozens of different teams all working towards the
same goal. Thanks to those scientists, we now know what makes water special. It s not a physical
property, such as colorless, but it s the fact that it s made up of hydrogen and oxygen atoms (F. Jabr 4).
Taking this concept of discovery, we can apply it to something more complex such as the definition of
life. Life is complicated, and many teams of researchers and scientists alike have worked towards the
goal of defining it. Before reading this article, it was assumed that the scientific community could
basically agree on one conclusion: A living thing has order, grows and develops, maintains
homeostasis, has a metabolic structure, reacts to stimuli, reproduces, and evolves. This definition of
life can be compacted into this simple statement made by NASA, [Life is] a self sustaining system
capable of Darwinian evolution. However, this statement has been proven untrue by Ferris Jabr s
theory that life doesn t actually exist because it s a concept rooted in the human mind. The reason he

Jane Goodall Persuasion Techniques
The essay I acknowledge mine by Jane Goodall uses better persuasion techniques than the piece by
American Medical Association. These articles both show great examples of persuasion techniques.
The American Medical Association used more logos and Jane Goodall s piece used more pathos. Their
claims represented two sides of a very heated argument over animal rights. The claim in Jane Goodall
s paper is that animals should not be used in human studies more specifically chimpanzees. While the
American Medical Association says that all this testing is required for the advancement of medicine.
They both choose to support their claims very differently. The American Medical Association (AMA)
says many facts and state all the scientific breakthroughs that were achieved through animal testing.
Jane Goodall talks about all the pain and the suffering that the animals are going through and relates
them to humans. Evidence, Jane Goodall s play on the reader s emotions in her evidence is strong. She
says, I watched as monkeys paced around their tiny prisons, making bizarre, abnormal movements
(Goodall 608). She has a way of using our morality of humans so that we can relate to these poor little
monkeys. The AMA says Animal research holds the key to solutions for AIDS, cancer, heart disease,

Lady Macbeth Changes
In William Shakespeare s play, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth goes through some major character changes.
After hearing the news about the witches prophecies, she can t wait for Macbeth to take the throne and
she is so eager for the king s death that she makes Macbeth do it. After the death of Duncan, Lady
Macbeth does not appear in many other significant ways, this is where her change begins to show.
Lady Macbeth is first introduced into the play as a dark and evil character, she is also very
manipulative; but, as the play progresses, she begins to change into a deceiving and passive character.
At the end of the play, she is characterized for the last time when she takes her life because of her
guilt.
In Act I of Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is introduced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lady Macbeth sleepwalks and talks often; in one instance, while rubbing her hands together as if she
is washing them, she says, The thane of Fife had a wife. Where is she now? What, / will these hands
ne er be clean? No more o that, my lord, / no more o that. (5.1.36 38). In this quote, she is confessing
one of the crimes that her family has committed; she is also having a conversation with herself asking
if her hands will ever be clean of the evil she has done. She says that they will never be clean again.
Also, she is rubbing her hands together as if she is washing away her sins, thus proving her guilt. Later
in the Act, Macbeth asks a doctor to check on his wife and report on her condition. He says, Not so
sick, my lord, / As she is troubled with thick coming fancies / that keep her from her rest... / ...Therein
the patient / Must minister to himself. (5.3.39 41;47 48). The doctor is saying that Lady Macbeth is
not sick at all, that she is actually healthy. Lady Macbeth is just troubled with disturbing visions that
will not go away. Macbeth then asks the doctor what the cure is. He responds by saying that there is
no cure; the only way for her to get better is for her to overcome the visions. Since Lady Macbeth
envisions the murders they have committed and cannot overcome them, it proves that she is guilty.
Ultimately, in Acts IV and V, Lady Macbeth is

Fall Convocation Research Paper
I arrive to the coliseum around 7:05. I truly didn t know what to expect from this event. From the
name of it, I was thinking along of the lines of a religious event. But Fall Convocation was in fact
something different and indeed shocked me greatly.
The first thing that caught my attention was the different flags that represented all of the schools here.
The sheer number of them was overwhelming to say the least. I always know that that the University
of Mississippi was big, but I didn t know it was this huge. It made me feel like an item in a giant
factory. Ole Miss is that factory. To be truthful, with those titles those heads of the schools held, I don

European Exploration Research Paper
During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, Europe underwent an age of great exploration. Many

China s Survival of Crisis Due to Economic Reforms Essay
China s Survival of Crisis Due to Economic Reforms
In the years before 1976, many unwise policies were carried out which brought China into a crisis of
communism, or a state in which communism was threatened. The Great Leap Forward and the
Cultural Revolution were specifically the main causes of the crisis of communism and the mastermind
between these two movements, Mao Zedong, can be held responsible for their initiation. The Great
Leap Forward was a great economic failure. Years of famine and intense suffering came about as a
result of this skewed project of Mao s. Consequently, he was sidelined in the CCP. The direct

From post 1976 onwards, Deng Xiaoping and his conservative pragmatist government would bring
great reform to China, which would allow her to tide over the troubles caused by the crisis in
communism. Indeed, it would seem that his economic reforms were the main reason for China s
survival, as opposed to political reform. Under Deng Xiaoping, action was taken to move China from
a Soviet style command economy to a more capitalist market economy. On the other hand, political
reform was not as pronounced as Deng wished to retain the traditional communist style of party
dictatorship.
When Deng came into power, China s economy had not progressed as much as Mao had imagined it
would. The crisis in communism had also had an adverse effect on the economy. Deng s catch phrase
it doesn t matter if the cat is black or white so long as it catches the mouse encapsulates his entire
approach towards economic reform. His economic reforms were very obviously not in line with
communism at all but he felt that if they could bring greater prosperity to China, it was worth it to
adopt these new measures.
The reforms took place largely in rural China. There was increased emphasis and investment on

Cotton From 1850-1860
Factors that influenced the increased production of cotton from 1800s to the 1860s was different
resources, demand, and advanced technology.
To begin with, natural, human, and capital resources played a huge role in the growth of cotton
production. Land was a very essential natural resource to cotton farmers. With fertile land, farmers
could grow their big business, cotton. Also, because of land, the number of cotton farms in America
began to increase greatly. For instance, in Texas, cotton farms grew an astounding 251.6% from 1850
1860. An important human resource that helped increase cotton manufacture was slaves. Slaves were
needed to pick and plant cotton as it was a long and tedious job. From 1800 1860, the amount of
slaves increased 342% and by 1860, the slave population amounted to over 3 million (Davidson, 388).
Money and profit was a very imperative capital resource. After farmers collected their profits, they
would buy more slaves, land, and machinery in hopes of improving their cotton business and growing
more cotton (Davidson, 388 389). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The growth of the textile industry in Britain boosted the cotton sales in America. Textile industry was
dependent on cotton and 75% of their cotton came from farms in the South(Dattel). The demand of
cloth also affected the demand of cotton. The North needed cotton for their cloth and textile industry
after it grew during the Industrial Revolution(Dattel). The War of 1812 caused Americans to start
creating their own industries and goods after Britain cut off vital goods out of the United States. In this
period of time, there was a huge demand for cotton as American citizens standard of living grew.
Since there was a huge demand, farmers made a large profit. (Davidson, 312 and

Gender Binary Norms
As far as the technology determined gender difference is concerned, it is necessary to discuss how
bodies can be affected by the violence of technologies and knowledge. Drugs and technologies
participate in the materialisation of the binary sex. It is indubitable that the gender binary norm is
insufficient. The existence of intersexuality is an evidence that disrupts the heteronormative concept of
gender. For instance, 1 in 100 babies born with an anomaly of sex. and 1 in 1000 not readily
classifiable. (Chase, C. 1998) To a certain extent, sex can be reallocated through medication. Thus,
following the heteronormative rule, intersexuality as neither men nor women that against the social

Heart Rate Lab Report
INTRODUCTION
The heart is made of specialized tissue known as cardiac muscle. Cardiac muscle is made of
myocardial cells which can be further divided into autorhythmic and contractile cells. The
autorhythmic cells are composed of sinoatrial (SA) nodes and atrioventricular (AV) nodes. These
nodes contain pacemaker cells that control heart rate by producing pacemaker potentials. An example
of a pacemaker potential is shown in Figure 1. The potential goes from slow depolarization to rapid
depolarization to a peak and lastly to a repolarization phase. In the slow depolarization phase, funny

Analysis Of 40 Acres And A Mule
40 Acres and a Mule
For most Americans, our ancestors came to the United States to own land and it was true if you were a
white male. The right to own land in the United States has not been a reality for much of people in the
US without a long struggle to change laws regarding citizenship and land ownership. At the time of
the Revolutionary War and the writing of the constitution, land ownership was limited to citizens .
Becoming a citizen, even if a person was born in the United States was quite muddy. The decision of
who could be a citizen or own land was left up to the individual states. Persons of various ethnicities
were legally denied citizen status for years in many states. In addition to persons who are citizens,

The emancipation of slaves in the southern US and the after effects of the Civil War caused General
Sherman to, in January 1865, issue Special Field Order Number 15. Thousands of former slaves were
basically refugees, having no jobs, homes or property. Many slaves thought erroneously that after they
were freed they would be given the land on which they worked. This didn t happen and they were
turned out on their own. Order Number 15 was issued as a response to the refugee/slave issue.
400,000 acres along the South Carolina, Georgia and Florida coasts was set aside to be given to
Freedmen. The area was to be populated by blacks only and by a government made up those peoples.
The allocation of land was to be not more than 40 acres of tillable land per person or family, self
governed and self ruled. The decision to give land to the freed slaves came about by Sherman asking
leaders of the Negro community, 20 Baptist and Methodist ministers, what did their people want. They
said land.
Over 40,000 free slaves, by June of 1865, then staked their claims on the land. The term 40 Acres and
a Mule was not written into the order, but somehow fabricated by the land allocation amount and
Sherman giving some of the new land owners excess military mules. What happened next began the
declining relationship of African Americans and their ability to own land. With the

Minority Representation In Media I chose Jon Entine s Taboo: Why Black Athletes Dominate Sports
And Why We re Afraid to Talk About It for my book on minority representation in media. This book
embarks on a subject that very few have been willing to discuss openly in the past fifty years. Why is
the typical black athlete superior to the white athlete? And why do many feel it is wrong to analyze,
discuss, or even wonder about something that seems so evident? This book offers the history behind
African American athletes in sports and examines the genetic revolution that follows it. Taboo also

One interesting statistic that was presented was Blacks have a 1 in 4,000 chance of playing in the
NBA. While whites have a 1 in 90,000 chance (Entine 19). He also provides astonishing evidence of
the domination of African native track and field athletes. There is almost a complete absence of white
sprinters in the top 100 times in the 100, 200, and 400m races. This cannot be coincidence that
different races excel at different sporting events. Entine goes on to state All of the 32 finalists in the
last four Olympic men s 100 meter races are of West African descent. The likelihood of that happening
based on population numbers alone blacks from that region, now living around the globe, represent
approximately 8 percent of the world s population is 0.0000000000000000000000000000000001

Why We re Afraid To Talk About It teaches us that minority representation in sports media and
television is becoming more and more diverse. However, the more diverse it is becoming the more
prominent misrepresentation and racial slurring has become in the media. After thinking about the title

athletes throughout sports in the United States, Caucasians have become the minority. One of the key

Siddhartha by Herman Hesse
Herman Hesse s novel Siddhartha is a spiritual book about a man who finds himself , during the time
when the teachings of Buddha started to evolve. Throughout this spiritual novel, there are many
recurring symbols, themes, and strong bonds between the characters.
2. Other than the ferryman Vasudeva helping Siddhartha, the river helps Siddhartha with his path
toward enlightenment. The river serves as the instructor in Siddhartha s journey when he abandons his
wealth and leaves the Samanas. The river is like life, it flows in a certain direction, depending on the
journey you want to take. The function of the river is that it will give one answers depending on the
direction it takes. Because of the philosophical meaning of the river, if one understands it, they will
achieve enlightenment. Vasudeva s philosophical belief is that one must listen to the river for answers.
The river provides one with knowledge without words. Siddhartha s reward for listening to the river is
that he will have a true understanding of reality. Event though Vasudeva told Siddhartha to listen to the
river by his philosophical belief, Siddhartha achieved the meaning of reality of on his own. In reality ,
the river was the instruction because it shared it s knowledge with Siddhartha how to achieve
enlightenment, while the ferryman just pointed him in the right direction. In the end Siddhartha

Essay on Moral Luck
The case of moral luck was introduced by Williams Bernard and developed by Thomas Nagel in their
articles respectively. Both raised the question whether luck can influence the judgment of morality. In
this essay, the definition of moral luck and four kinds of moral luck by Williams and Nagel will be
discussed through several case examples, and then followed with some arguments from Judith Andre,
Donna Dickenson and David Enoch and Andrei Marmor who disagree with the concept of moral luck.
Let take a simple example from Nagel s paper to acquire a brief understanding on the idea of moral
luck. Driver A and B were both drunk when driving home. Drive A passed the red light and killed a
child who was passing the street while driver B got home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second type of luck, circumstantial, was described as luck in one s circumstances the kind of
problems and situations one faces , (Nagel, p.28). The drunken drivers example belongs to the third
type of luck: resultant luck. To many philosophers, the third and fourth type of luck is accountable for
one which deals with the causes and effects of action, as Nagel explains, luck in how one is
determined by antecedent circumstances, and luck in the way one s action and projects turn out. ,
(Nagel, p.28). The commonality of these four categories of luck is the idea that one cannot be more
culpable or estimable for anything than one is for that fraction of it which is under one s control. It
seems irrational to take or dispense credit or blame for matters over which a person has no control, or
for their influence on results over which he has partial control. (Nagel, p.28).
Williams also delivers the idea of agent regret which, to him, matters to the person in the unlucky case
more than any extrinsic moral judgments. Agent regret is defined as thought being formed in part by
first personal conceptions of how one might have acted otherwise , (Williams, p.27), and required a
first personal subject matter and not yet merely a particular kind of psychological content, but also a
particular kind of expression , (Williams, 27). Hence, even if the driver A is morally treated as equal as
driver B, the agent regret of guilt may follow him to the

King Tutankhamun s Death Essay
The topic I chose was the many theories that surround the death of the Egyptian king Tutankhamun.
The main theory that I will focus on is that his death was because of assassination. There are many
books and articles based on the research of King Tutankhamun s assassination. I reviewed many
scholarly sources that describe the life of King Tutankhamun as well as the discovery of his tomb.
King Tutankhamun ruled over the land of Egypt as pharaoh. He is known as the boy king, and for the
lavish grave goods that were discovered in his tomb. King Tutankhamun was the last pharaoh of the
eighteenth dynasty before his sudden untimely death, due to being surrounded by power hungry
people which resulted in his assassination.
King Tutankhamun was born around 1342 BCE in Amarna. It is unknown who his parents were, and
how he received the title of pharaoh. Akhenaten the pharaoh before him only had daughters with his
wife Nefertiti. According to Michael King and Gregory Cooper Tutankhamun was the son of one of
Akhenaten s minor wives. After the death of Akhenaten Egypt was chaotic because of the changes that
Akhenaten made. These changes caused Akhenaten to fall out of favor with some of the Egyptian
people. When Tutankhamun came to power in 1333, he was wed to Akhenaten and Nefertiti s third
daughter Ankhesenamun. The arrangement of his marriage to Ankhesenamun was to make his claim to
king legitimate. Since he was not the legitimate son of Akhenaten, marrying his daughter who had a

Description: Polycystic kidney disease, also known as PKD, is a genetic disorder where clusters of
cysts develop in the kidneys. Cysts are fluid filled sacs that vary in size depending on how much fluid
is in the sac. This disease impacts the ability of the kidneys to filter waste products from the blood. In
many cases, the growth of the cysts causes the kidneys to become enlarged which can lead to kidney
failure. There are three types of polycystic kidney disease: autosomal dominant (ADPKD), autosomal

In order to deal with pain, many health care providers suggest taking over the counter medication like
aspirin. High blood pressure is one of the most common symptoms in patients with PKD. Many
patients have to make lifestyle changes and take various medications to lower blood pressure. Some
lifestyle changes that may need to take place include a strict diet or an increase in exercise. About 50
percent of people with PKD experience kidney failure by the age of 60, and 70 percent will have
kidney failure by age 70 (National Kidney Foundation, 2016). Although there is no way to reverse
kidney failure, there are ways to prolong the life of the kidneys. Patients either need to receive dialysis
or receive a kidney transplant. There are two types of dialysis. The first is hemodialysis. This is where
a machine is used to filter toxins from the blood. The second is peritoneal dialysis. This is where the
lining of the abdomen is used to filter blood from inside the body. A kidney transplant is when the
unhealthy kidney is removed from the patient s body and a healthy one is put in. The healthy kidney

especially important to live a life of ethics in order to follow the standard to which God has called us
with the words: Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be
blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse
generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world (NASB). This responsibility to live life in a
way that is caring and beneficial to others is especially important for engineers. Engineers are often
held to a higher standard than most other workers due to the nature of an engineer s work to involve
the safety of others. The National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) has a Code of Ethics for
Engineers that highlights a few of the most important aspects of proper ethical consideration in the
work of an engineer. In the ethics video produced by the NSPE we see Z Corp a company responsible
for providing commercial fertilizer break many of these ethical considerations. The three most
considerable ethical issues seen in this video are: Z Corp lying to the public about the state of their
product, using outdate, less accurate tests in order to pass contamination laws, and firing the most
competent staff that they had to authorize the contamination released by the plant.

Randomization Eliminates Confounding Error
Since this study is a randomized controlled trial, randomization eliminates confounding error by
ensuring that known and unknown confounders are balanced across both treatment groups [8]. Hence,
this paper discusses potential confounders to consider before randomization occurs. One potential
confounder that could skew the association between exercise and depression symptoms is age. Age is
associated with the occurrence of depression; the internal and external stresses of life increase as one
gets older, increasing their risk for the disorder [1]. Moreover, adults tend to exercise less as they age,
due to less leisure time and decreases in metabolism and muscle mass [18]. Hence, age is also
associated with engaging in exercise. However, exercise

  • 2. Black Panthers Social Movement The Social Movement of the Black Panthers Historically and currently, community organizing has been a vehicle used collectively to address issues on a larger scale in order to challenge injustices, discrimination, and inequalities. Injustices based on race and class has been prevalent since the advent of Columbus. Considerably, community organizing is an effective means for seeking change in one s community cooperatively. Efforts to bring about change are usually engaged in the framework or setting of a social movement. Dr. King, noted, The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. America s dominant power structure, historically, has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tone of the civil rights movement shifted when the Black Panther movement gave birth to a new revolution as means for survival. The premise of the Panthers was to banish the brutality members among minority communities faced at the hands of a corrupt society, mainly the police department. The pointless violence endured by blacks by unjust policing was a means to challenge and address society ills. The Black Panther movement formulated plan was to gain community control, by any means. It s concentration on the liberties of African Americans and those who were oppressed by the dominant system became a goal of the party. The Black Panthers were committed to a revolutionary idea of politics which acted on armed self defense tactics. Armed self defense was guaranteed by the constitution and the Black panther used this right in their benefit to exercise their stance. Gun in tow and their law books in hand, were their signature. Injustices were countered head on and met with strong defense. The movement implements a ten point program and platform of ideas. • 3. Essay On Chaos And Transformational Disorder CHAOS AND MENTAL DISORDER In 1992 Freeman has suggested the use of complexity for the study of schizophrenia and mood instability in bipolar disorders. (Freeman, 1992). According to Freeman, chaos underlies the brain s ability to respond flexibly to the outside world and to generate a rich variety of patterns, including those that are experienced as new ideas. Chaos thus expresses the unpredictable underlying order of attractors and allows the complex behavior observed in the brain. The dynamics of the underlying attractor reconstructed from the EEG data by using the coordinates delay technique proved to be chaotic in nature. Preliminary results suggested that a separate chaotic attractor is maintained for each stimulation and perception act is constituted by phase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is correlated with changes in the spatiotemporal patterns of activity of chaotic systems (Freeman, 1999). Other studies suggest a relationship of chaotic dynamics with a wide range of cognitive phenomena connected with characteristic changes during the manifestations of mental disorders such as depression or schizophrenia (Gottschalk et al., 1995) (Barton, 1994) (Huber et al.,1999), (Korn Faure, 2003), (Melancon et al., 2000), (Paulus Braff, 2003). There are studies that attribute the chaotic transitions to dissociative states in psychopathology. They propose hypotheses relating the process of dissociation with the chaotic dynamics generated by discrete maps (Putnam, 1997). In another example, the chaotic transitions are related dissociative states in the brain (Bob, 2003; 2007) to be noted that transitions which occur in the activation of different sets of neurons obey patterns that can be identified with chaos. As a last example, not much different than the above, the comparison is made of the behavioral observations of individuals and not their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Pros And Cons Of Factory Farming William s paper addresses the moral risk that is posed when people decide to intentionally remain ignorant to avoid a possible ethical crisis. She then elaborates on how this choice manifests itself in four different types of affected ignorance. She bases her belief that factory farming is wrong using deontology and utilitarianism because animals deserve respect as well as the ability to exist without pain that is atypical from a natural life. Her argument is that when we chose affected ignorance, we then become subject the possibility of moral risk if we identify that factory farming is morally wrong and continue to support it. I agree with her argument, but believe that it could be strengthened by developing the idea of how affected ignorance is a symptom of being weak willed. Williams begins with the idea that we do not ask questions about what happens with factory farming and that therefore makes us culpable for the disrespect that is administered to the animals while harvesting the products. The choice of remaining in the dark puts the person at fault due to the fact that animals in factory farming are also subjected to pain for the purpose of cheap meat to speed up the process. She defines the act of staying in the dark as affected ignorance and identifies four different ways that affected ignorance manifests itself in our lives. The first, being the refusal to acknowledge the moral impacts imposed on the animals in the factory farming business. The second ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. John Williams s Soundtrack for Harry Potter Adventure, mystery, and magic all go hand in hand when it comes to the Harry Potter series written by J.K. Rowling. The books were adapted into films starting in 2001. The first film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone, was directed by Chris Columbus. The story of Harry Potter is magical as is however; the movie needed a little extra magic. This extra magic needed to be added through music. In Diagon Alley, the music is light, whimsical, and quick which mimics the atmosphere of Diagon Alley. The music turns back to a curious, mysterious, majestic song when Harry and Hagrid enter Gringotts bank because there are mysterious creatures in Gringotts called Goblins. When Harry sees all of the money that his parents left him in Gringotts the music sounds like it sparkles just like the gold coins sparkle in the film. The song changes again when Hagrid retrieves a peculiar item from vault 713 in the bank. The music turns mysterious and secretive. The music in the scene about Diagon Alley perfectly mimics the events and the atmosphere of the scene and helps tells the story. There is a sport in the magical world of Harry Potter called Quidditch. Harry ends up playing of the Quidditch team as a seeker, which is a player who finds a tiny, gold ball that flies through the air and the seeker must catch it in order to win the match. The civil rights leader was at a protest in Birmingham, Alabama when he was arrested for having a public gathering without a permit. • 11. The Issue Of Child Labor The issue of child labor has drawn significant attention since early 1990s as many labor union and special interest groups advocate banning import of goods produced by the child labor in developing countries and the international consensus in the form of Convention on the Right of the Child (CRC) which is widely ratified in 1989 by countries (Boyden, Ling and Myers, 1998). However, concern regarding child labor is not new and can be dated back to industrial revolution, especially late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, in England many parents were helpless but to send their children to work to cope the increasing poverty and inequality. Policy measures adopted to reduce child labor are derived from an increasing number of theoretical and empirical research on this issue specially since late 1990s. Theoretical studies use the household decision making model to explain the incidence of child labor and attempt to find the determinants of child labor. • 12. A International Company s Workers Human Rights Through... Introduction Globalization is defined as the act of globalizing, or extending to other or all parts of the world. In other words, globalization is that the world has experienced two great waves of gobalization driven by the free trade policies of major trading countries and falling transportation costs. The first wave was from roughly the down of the Industrial Revolution in the 19 Century to World War I, and the second has run since 1947. International trade and international migration grew substantially during the first wave, but world trade increased even more rapidly during the first 25 years of the World War II wave. Both periods of gobalization faced significant suspicion about the results of globalization for labor conditions. (Globalization and Labor Conditions, Robert J. Flanagan, 2006) Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to compare the international company s workers human rights through the influence of the international trade. Over the past decade, China has been an attractive destination for global corporations due to its low wage rates and labor laws that disallow independent trade unions and limit the right to strike. Recently, Chinese industrial workers have been pushing back, demanding better wages, hours and working conditions. Collective action by Chinese workers, including strikes, has been successful in many cases and is bringing Chinese employers to the bargaining table As a result, China s industrial ... Incontinence, basically, is when a person knows (or perhaps merely believes) that he or she ought to do x, since x is the decision formed from a rational desire for some good end, but instead does y. For example, consider a case in which one believes that eating a healthy meal is desirable and good as an end in itself, resulting in the decision that to partake of the healthy meal in front of oneself is the best way to achieve that end. However, imagine that right next to the healthy meal is a large plate of various sweets and chocolates, the eating of which appeals only to one s appetite or nonrational desires. According to Aristotle, the continent man will have the nonrational desire to eat the plate of sweets, but will resist it and instead proceed to eat the healthy meal. The incontinent man, however, will relinquish his decision and succumb to his nonrational desire to indulge himself (1145b9 14). The Puzzles of Incontinence As alluded to earlier, one aim of Aristotle s dialectical method of inquiry was to resolve certain puzzles that arise from conjoining the common majority s beliefs with that of careful reflection, in the hopes of revealing the truth of the most important of the most common beliefs (1145b6). During that time, there have also been projects upon projects that were taken on by new, emerging scientists who will continue the work of the teams who came before them. Each new team brings a new discovery. Something that was previously just a question, such as what makes us water different than dirt? , has now been answered due to dozens of different teams all working towards the same goal. Thanks to those scientists, we now know what makes water special. It s not a physical property, such as colorless, but it s the fact that it s made up of hydrogen and oxygen atoms (F. Jabr 4). Taking this concept of discovery, we can apply it to something more complex such as the definition of life. This definition of life can be compacted into this simple statement made by NASA, [Life is] a self sustaining system capable of Darwinian evolution. With fertile land, farmers could grow their big business, cotton. Also, because of land, the number of cotton farms in America began to increase greatly. For instance, in Texas, cotton farms grew an astounding 251.6% from 1850 1860. An important human resource that helped increase cotton manufacture was slaves. Slaves were needed to pick and plant cotton as it was a long and tedious job. From 1800 1860, the amount of slaves increased 342% and by 1860, the slave population amounted to over 3 million (Davidson, 388). Money and profit was a very imperative capital resource. After farmers collected their profits, they would buy more slaves, land, and machinery in hopes of improving their cotton business and growing more cotton (Davidson, 388 389). ... The War of 1812 caused Americans to start creating their own industries and goods after Britain cut off vital goods out of the United States. Drugs and technologies participate in the materialisation of the binary sex. It is indubitable that the gender binary norm is insufficient. The existence of intersexuality is an evidence that disrupts the heteronormative concept of gender. For instance, 1 in 100 babies born with an anomaly of sex. and 1 in 1000 not readily classifiable. • 28. Heart Rate Lab Report INTRODUCTION The heart is made of specialized tissue known as cardiac muscle. Cardiac muscle is made of myocardial cells which can be further divided into autorhythmic and contractile cells. The autorhythmic cells are composed of sinoatrial (SA) nodes and atrioventricular (AV) nodes. These nodes contain pacemaker cells that control heart rate by producing pacemaker potentials. An example of a pacemaker potential is shown in Figure 1. The potential goes from slow depolarization to rapid depolarization to a peak and lastly to a repolarization phase. In the slow depolarization phase, funny channels, which are special slow sodium channels found in the pacemaker cells, open and Na+ flows in and depolarizes until threshold is reached. • 30. Analysis Of 40 Acres And A Mule 40 Acres and a Mule For most Americans, our ancestors came to the United States to own land and it was true if you were a white male. The right to own land in the United States has not been a reality for much of people in the US without a long struggle to change laws regarding citizenship and land ownership. At the time of the Revolutionary War and the writing of the constitution, land ownership was limited to citizens . Becoming a citizen, even if a person was born in the United States was quite muddy. The decision of who could be a citizen or own land was left up to the individual states. Persons of various ethnicities were legally denied citizen status for years in many states. The emancipation of slaves in the southern US and the after effects of the Civil War caused General Sherman to, in January 1865, issue Special Field Order Number 15. Thousands of former slaves were basically refugees, having no jobs, homes or property. Many slaves thought erroneously that after they were freed they would be given the land on which they worked. This didn t happen and they were turned out on their own. Order Number 15 was issued as a response to the refugee/slave issue. 400,000 acres along the South Carolina, Georgia and Florida coasts was set aside to be given to Freedmen. The area was to be populated by blacks only and by a government made up those peoples. The allocation of land was to be not more than 40 acres of tillable land per person or family, self governed and self ruled. The decision to give land to the freed slaves came about by Sherman asking leaders of the Negro community, 20 Baptist and Methodist ministers, what did their people want. They said land. Over 40,000 free slaves, by June of 1865, then staked their claims on the land. The term 40 Acres and a Mule was not written into the order, but somehow fabricated by the land allocation amount and Sherman giving some of the new land owners excess military mules. This book embarks on a subject that very few have been willing to discuss openly in the past fifty years. Why is the typical black athlete superior to the white athlete? And why do many feel it is wrong to analyze, discuss, or even wonder about something that seems so evident? This book offers the history behind African American athletes in sports and examines the genetic revolution that follows it. One interesting statistic that was presented was Blacks have a 1 in 4,000 chance of playing in the NBA. While whites have a 1 in 90,000 chance (Entine 19). He also provides astonishing evidence of the domination of African native track and field athletes. There is almost a complete absence of white sprinters in the top 100 times in the 100, 200, and 400m races. This cannot be coincidence that different races excel at different sporting events. Entine goes on to state All of the 32 finalists in the last four Olympic men s 100 meter races are of West African descent. The likelihood of that happening based on population numbers alone blacks from that region, now living around the globe, represent approximately 8 percent of the world s population is 0.0000000000000000000000000000000001 percent (34). This is quite an astounding statistic! Taboo: Why Black Athletes Dominate Sports And Why We re Afraid To Talk About It teaches us that minority representation in sports media and television is becoming more and more diverse. However, the more diverse it is becoming the more prominent misrepresentation and racial slurring has become in the media. • 32. Siddhartha by Herman Hesse Herman Hesse s novel Siddhartha is a spiritual book about a man who finds himself , during the time when the teachings of Buddha started to evolve. Throughout this spiritual novel, there are many recurring symbols, themes, and strong bonds between the characters. 2. Other than the ferryman Vasudeva helping Siddhartha, the river helps Siddhartha with his path toward enlightenment. The river serves as the instructor in Siddhartha s journey when he abandons his wealth and leaves the Samanas. The river is like life, it flows in a certain direction, depending on the journey you want to take. The function of the river is that it will give one answers depending on the direction it takes. Because of the philosophical meaning of the river, if one understands it, they will achieve enlightenment. Vasudeva s philosophical belief is that one must listen to the river for answers. The river provides one with knowledge without words. Siddhartha s reward for listening to the river is that he will have a true understanding of reality. Event though Vasudeva told Siddhartha to listen to the river by his philosophical belief, Siddhartha achieved the meaning of reality of on his own. In reality , the river was the instruction because it shared it s knowledge with Siddhartha how to achieve enlightenment, while the ferryman just pointed him in the right direction. • 33. Essay on Moral Luck The case of moral luck was introduced by Williams Bernard and developed by Thomas Nagel in their articles respectively. Both raised the question whether luck can influence the judgment of morality. In this essay, the definition of moral luck and four kinds of moral luck by Williams and Nagel will be discussed through several case examples, and then followed with some arguments from Judith Andre, Donna Dickenson and David Enoch and Andrei Marmor who disagree with the concept of moral luck. Let take a simple example from Nagel s paper to acquire a brief understanding on the idea of moral luck. Driver A and B were both drunk when driving home. The second type of luck, circumstantial, was described as luck in one s circumstances the kind of problems and situations one faces , (Nagel, p.28). The drunken drivers example belongs to the third type of luck: resultant luck. To many philosophers, the third and fourth type of luck is accountable for one which deals with the causes and effects of action, as Nagel explains, luck in how one is determined by antecedent circumstances, and luck in the way one s action and projects turn out. , (Nagel, p.28). The commonality of these four categories of luck is the idea that one cannot be more culpable or estimable for anything than one is for that fraction of it which is under one s control. It seems irrational to take or dispense credit or blame for matters over which a person has no control, or for their influence on results over which he has partial control. (Nagel, p.28). Williams also delivers the idea of agent regret which, to him, matters to the person in the unlucky case more than any extrinsic moral judgments. Agent regret is defined as thought being formed in part by first personal conceptions of how one might have acted otherwise , (Williams, p.27), and required a first personal subject matter and not yet merely a particular kind of psychological content, but also a particular kind of expression , (Williams, 27). • 34. King Tutankhamun s Death Essay The topic I chose was the many theories that surround the death of the Egyptian king Tutankhamun. The main theory that I will focus on is that his death was because of assassination. There are many books and articles based on the research of King Tutankhamun s assassination. I reviewed many scholarly sources that describe the life of King Tutankhamun as well as the discovery of his tomb. King Tutankhamun ruled over the land of Egypt as pharaoh. He is known as the boy king, and for the lavish grave goods that were discovered in his tomb. King Tutankhamun was the last pharaoh of the eighteenth dynasty before his sudden untimely death, due to being surrounded by power hungry people which resulted in his assassination. King Tutankhamun was born around 1342 BCE in Amarna. It is unknown who his parents were, and how he received the title of pharaoh. Akhenaten the pharaoh before him only had daughters with his wife Nefertiti. According to Michael King and Gregory Cooper Tutankhamun was the son of one of Akhenaten s minor wives. After the death of Akhenaten Egypt was chaotic because of the changes that Akhenaten made. These changes caused Akhenaten to fall out of favor with some of the Egyptian people. When Tutankhamun came to power in 1333, he was wed to Akhenaten and Nefertiti s third daughter Ankhesenamun. The arrangement of his marriage to Ankhesenamun was to make his claim to king legitimate. Since he was not the legitimate son of Akhenaten, marrying his daughter who had a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cysts are fluid filled sacs that vary in size depending on how much fluid is in the sac. This disease impacts the ability of the kidneys to filter waste products from the blood. In many cases, the growth of the cysts causes the kidneys to become enlarged which can lead to kidney failure. There are three types of polycystic kidney disease: autosomal dominant (ADPKD), autosomal recessive (ARPKD), and acquired cystic kidney disease (ACKD). Autosomal dominant and autosomal recessive polycystic kidney diseases are both genetic disorders, while acquired cystic kidney disease is not inherited. Autosomal dominant is the ... About 50 percent of people with PKD experience kidney failure by the age of 60, and 70 percent will have kidney failure by age 70 (National Kidney Foundation, 2016). Although there is no way to reverse kidney failure, there are ways to prolong the life of the kidneys. Patients either need to receive dialysis or receive a kidney transplant. There are two types of dialysis. The first is hemodialysis. This is where a machine is used to filter toxins from the blood. The second is peritoneal dialysis. This is where the lining of the abdomen is used to filter blood from inside the body. A kidney transplant is when the unhealthy kidney is removed from the patient s body and a healthy one is put in. • 40. The Gold And Engineering Ethics Gilbane Gold and Engineering Ethics Ethics are fundamental in all human interaction; they guide or beliefs and behaviors, therefore fundamentally affecting how we live life. As Christians, it is especially important to live a life of ethics in order to follow the standard to which God has called us with the words: Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world (NASB). This responsibility to live life in a way that is caring and beneficial to others is especially important for engineers. Engineers are often held to a higher standard than most other workers due to the nature of an engineer s work to involve the safety of others. The National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) has a Code of Ethics for Engineers that highlights a few of the most important aspects of proper ethical consideration in the work of an engineer. In the ethics video produced by the NSPE we see Z Corp a company responsible for providing commercial fertilizer break many of these ethical considerations. Age is associated with the occurrence of depression; the internal and external stresses of life increase as one gets older, increasing their risk for the disorder [1]. Moreover, adults tend to exercise less as they age, due to less leisure time and decreases in metabolism and muscle mass [18]. Hence, age is also associated with engaging in exercise.
