Modernization Essay
Embarking on the task of writing an essay on the subject of modernization is no small feat. The
complexity of this topic lies in its broad and multifaceted nature, encompassing various aspects
of societal, technological, economic, and cultural advancements. To effectively address
modernization, one must navigate through a labyrinth of interconnected themes, each
demanding careful consideration and analysis.
The challenge arises from the need to strike a balance between providing a comprehensive
overview of modernization and delving into specific areas that exemplify its profound impact.
Modernization isn't a monolithic concept; it involves examining historical trajectories, current
trends, and potential future developments. Juggling these temporal dimensions requires a
nuanced understanding of the forces driving change and the implications they hold for different
spheres of human existence.
Furthermore, tackling the essay necessitates grappling with the paradoxes and contradictions
inherent in modernization. While it brings about progress and innovation, it also raises ethical
dilemmas and concerns about inequality. The writer must navigate through the intricacies of
these dynamics, presenting a well-rounded perspective that reflects the nuanced reality of
modernization.
Research, therefore, becomes a pivotal component of the writing process. Gathering relevant and
up-to-date information is crucial for constructing a compelling argument and avoiding outdated
or inaccurate representations of the subject. Navigating through academic journals, historical
documents, and contemporary analyses demands time and meticulous attention to detail.
Crafting a coherent and engaging narrative is another hurdle. The essay must flow seamlessly,
connecting ideas and evidence to construct a persuasive argument. Balancing depth with
accessibility is key to ensuring that the essay resonates with a diverse audience.
In conclusion, writing an essay on modernization requires a delicate interplay of research, critical
thinking, and eloquent expression. It is a demanding task that demands a deep understanding of
the subject and the ability to synthesize diverse information into a cohesive and thought-
provoking piece. If the complexities of this endeavor seem overwhelming, assistance is available.

Lack Of Belonging In Comedy Of Errors
Comedy of Errors Timed Write In, The Comedy of Errors, William Shakespeare
creates a play around a central question enlightening the meaning of the theme of the
work as a whole. Through Romance and Farce, the lives of two identical twins and
their identical twin servants are told, as the family is split at a young age. Through
actions and hints throughout the play, it can be inferred that Shakespeare asks the
question, What are the harmful effects of alienation and a lack of belonging on an
individual or society? In, The Comedyof Errors, Shakespeare raises the question as
to what negative effects can be imposed upon an individual or society as a result of
alienation, which enhances the theme of the play that alienation and a lack of

As the story progresses, Antipholus of Ephesus is constantly confused for his
brother, unaware of the fact that he would be within the same area searching for him.
When Antipholus of Ephesus is jailed for a chain he never received yet his brother
gladly accepted, the theme that alienation can be perilous arises, where trouble is
brought to Antipholus of Ephesus as a merchant accuses him for having a chain of

New South Vs Old South
The New South was 2/3 new in the areas of politics and economics; however, it was
not new in race relations. Before Reconstruction initiated in 1865, slaves were
treated very austerely jobs and rules. However, this changed after the Union victory
in the Civil War. This gave some 4 million slaves their freedom, but the process of
rebuilding the south brought a set of substantial challenges. In 1865, a period of
Presidential Reconstruction began because President Lincoln was assassinated. This
meant that all of Lincolns plans for reconstruction had to fall to his successor
Andrew Johnson. Black codes were then passed in Legislation controlling the work
and behavior of former slaves and African Americans. These codes were not liked by

The old south was very dependent on agriculture especially the crop of cotton. If
the cotton plants were eaten by Boll Weevil, the agriculture field would
significantly fall. However, the old south was also dependent on their secondary
plant tobacco. Southern tobacco production rose after the Civil War as two new
varieties had been founded and a new way to cure the tobacco. Textiles began to
boom and industrialization was in full force. Cotton consumption went from
182,000 bales before the war to 1,479,000 bales after the war. Railroad lines were
crossing the country, so the south could profit from other country s productivity.
Refrigerated rail cars also allowed southern produce to reach northern markets,
which further expanded the economy. Not only did agriculture better, but so did
textiles. Birmingham, Alabama was known for its iron, limestone, and coal
production which was a very important resource for the traveling of trains.
Southern coal production increased from 5 million tons per year to 49 million tons
per year. Hydroelectricity was a growing source in the south which was a big step in
the industrialization process. Lastly, the south was offered pine trees which helped
restore those homes taken down in the war. The lumber industry grew to create
paper, clay, glass, and stone were in high demand, non fresh vegetables were sent on
railroad carts and canned in other places,
The Twentieth Century
The twentieth century was filled with events that changed that path of our history
forever. Throughout the years, many religions were founded, radical groups,
reforms happened, people s actions went down in history, and there were many
changes to the way that our nation is ran, including foreign policy, leaders, and
laws. Nationalism was one of the biggest influences on the twentieth century
because of the roles that it played in making the United States the way that it is
today. Race was also a factor in how changes were made to our laws, the events that
transpired throughout those 100 years, and the way that people were treated. Race
has been an issue throughout our nation s history that we cannot deny and is still an
issue in today s society. The book Superfluous Men is a book filled with many
critiques of how the American society was ran and the events that were happening
during that time. They made many points throughout this book that could be
correctly stated about our history. Twentieth century America was a time that can be
said to be one of the most influential centuries in our country s past. Nationalism is a
part of our country s past. We have seen many aspects of our history changed
because the act of nationalism. Nationalism is when a country or group of people
who are wanting to gain independence and it also shows when one country feels
superior over another. In the twentieth century, there are many examples of how
nationalism played a role in our nation and
Similarities Between Black Widow And Hulk
The Avenger, one of the best movies. It is a great story. Also, it has great character,
their personalities are amazing. Specially, when each character has a characteristic
that distinguish them from others. I will focus on the incredible Hulk and the
Black Widow. The Black Widow and Hulk are superheroes, but they are different at
their anger, reaction and body size. The similarity between Black Widow and Hulk
are both possesses superpowers. Hulk can get his strength when he just becomes
anger. He is known for his hot temper, and his anger so easily triggered even by the
smallest of things. However, the Black Widow is usually calm and she can restrain
herself even when gets anger. She does not act on anger, but instead, remains
Applying The Thin Flexible Compression Column For...
This report provides a comprehensive design methodology for the thin flexible
compression column for implementation into a load bearing garment. The thin
flexible compression column exists as part of a larger load bearing system, which
has military and civilian applications in load assist and injury prevention. This
system was designed to quasi actively assist in the load carriage for a soldier(body
armor and rucksack) without sacrificing safety, flexibility, or comfort. The column
serves as the connection between shoulder and waist, transferring load in
compression.
The studies begin with the development of the initial concept, the continuous floating
constraint buckling column. This concept consists of a flexible composite column,
under axial loading, buckling to higher modes between rigid lateral constraints. The
concept is proven by a comprehensive experimental demonstration. A dynamic FEA
model of that system is developed and studied. Experimental response proved
consistent with FEA results. The model accurately predicts buckling forces, lateral
reaction forces, stresses, strains, friction, modal shapes, and deflection. The geometric
variables of the continuous floating constraint were optimized using the FEA model,
and final tests were carried out. A second more flexible concept is devised using the
lessons learned from the continuous floating constraint design and FEA model. The
results generated from the FEA model as well as practical considerations
What Was The Benefit Of The Puritan Society
As the Puritans left England to escape religious persecution, they established a
thriving society in New England, based on puritan doctrine, virtue, and the church.
They intended to create a utopian society that would honor God s laws. They
intended for this utopia to be an example to the world. However, as religious
dissenters gained a voice, Puritanism seemed to splinter and secular concerns became
more important to the citizens of the New Englandarea, the region lost the
homogenous culture it once had.
The founders of New England had one major benefit when they were settling. The
charter given to their company, the Massachusetts Bay Company, contained a
provision that allowed the government of the colony to be located in the colony
itself. This allowed the like minded individuals who settled the colony, to begin
with, to set their own laws, and elect their own government officials. These
founders did not want the church to be controlled by the State, as they felt it was
in England, so they made it illegal for Ministers and Preachers to hold Public
office. They did, however, expect the community to live up to certain religious
standards. They wanted to live as saintly as possible to prove they were members of
the elect, destined for heaven, and they wanted to uphold Gods Laws so that God
would prevent great hardship and disaster from befalling the colony.
These standards were enforced with the power of Law, and intense peer pressure. All
people were required to attend
Cost Benefit Analysis ( Cba )
1.Introduction
In the recent years, Cost benefit Analysis (CBA) has been connected to different
ranges of strategies and tasks. Indeed, with research of CBA was conducted into two
wide areas of work. One area which undertaken to defined the technical economic
reasons for supporting CBA and then again there are studies which completes
empirical evaluations over the performance of test of CBA.
For every business and IT that has developed projects, they have to make good
decision on whether the projects will have costs and benefits and to determine it is
important to supplement such as cost effectiveness analysis with CBA tool to help
with strategy deciding. Pearce et al (2006), CBA is a tools that business analysts use

According to Bhatt et al, (2010 in Dehning 2002, Davis Stratopoulos, 2003)
mentions that analysts in the IT field contend that a model may not be specifically
pertinent to IT expenses which can be mean that the reappearance from IT costs is
difficult to measure which makes it more hard to figure it out ROI or comparable
models for IT expenses.
2.Cost Benefit Analysis
Cost benefit analysis has been around for many years while serving a great
purpose to any business or IT due its wide range of innovative strategies.
According to Levin and McEwan (2001, p.14) Cost benefit analysis is a tool that
evaluates to the assessment of choices as indicated by their costs and benefits
when each is measured in economic terms. However Prest and Turvey defined cost
benefit analysis as a practical way of assessing the desirability of projects, where it
is important to take a long view (in sense of looking at repercussions in the further,
as well as the nearer, future) and a wide view (in the sense of allowing for side
effects of many kinds of many persons, industries, regions, etc.) i.e it implies the
enumerations and evaluation of all the relevant costs and benefits .
The aim of CBA is to put a monetary values on the benefit anticipated from the
project and difference the costs which are relied upon to
Ergo-Industrial Working Women
Men are the breadwinners, while women domestically chained as Mother says...I
cannot do housework unless I do it in my own house . This speaks to the notion that
women were envisioned to be limited to a maternal and private sphere.
Furthermore, when women move forward into the public sphere they are met with
the sweating system. The sweating system definition itself defined as a condition in
which the remuneration is quite disproportionate to the amount of work done . It is
because of this that women believed they need open air skating at a lower rate...we

women or wives generally were subjected to work labour beyond their physical
capability, working around the clock to meet the demands monetarily and
domestically of their public and private sphere without aid.
The photograph exposes the reality that there were more mouths to feed than hands
to hold and guide children through the early stages of their life. There is no space
for the children to play or move around and all are extremely cramped. . This shows
the living conditions of women where there was no space or time in the domestic
space that allowed socialization the way that working men gained as reiterated

the ability to mobilize the way that men did for emancipation from their domestic

Papacy Crisis
During the medieval period, debates over the pope s power created significant
tension between the Papacy and Europe s kings. These tensions manifested
themselves in the Investiture Crisis of the late 11th and early 12th centuries, a
quarrel between Holy Roman Emperor Henry IV and Pope Gregory VII over the
appointment of bishops. This controversy came to a head when Henry used his army
to force Gregory VII out of Rome to install his anti PopeClement III. While the
Concordat of Worms resolved the crisis, the impacts of the Investiture Crisis
continued to affect the Papacy. One of the Investiture Crisis most notably facets was
its demonstration of how the Papacy could not prevent ambitious kings from trying to
infringe on Papal power. Despite... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Boniface possessed greater temporal power than Gregory VII did (due to the
reforms of Innocent III), they both shared an obstinacy that alienated secular rulers,
especially on matters of lay investiture or taxation. Ambitious kings, whether or not
they made moves to keep their kingdoms hold on the Papacy, could still find ways
to subvert and control its power to their advantage. The impact of the Investiture
Crisis resonated nearly 200 years after it started, as the assumptions of Gregory VII
and Henry IV about their respective powers carried over to Boniface VIII and Philip
IV, albeit changed to fit with the evolving spiritual and temporal nature of the

marketplace by changing marketing mix, hence improve their market based assets.
Firstly, the article motions the fourth quarter results shows that many customers
prefer to choose their competitor Netflix rather than Foxtel because it s new and
cheaper. To deal with this, Foxtel decided to cut their price from 49 dollars to 25

Displacement In The Happiest Refuge
Displacement; the action of moving something from it place or position. To me,
displacement is the unfair treatment of a person who has had the disadvantage of
having to flee their own home, lost their sense of self, their belongings, their culture,
or even people they know and love, for the sake of either their own safety, or the
safety of those around them.
The idea of displacement in The Happiest Refugee is demonstrated and explored

Presocratic Milesian Research Paper
The three presocratic Milesian thinkers certainly stood out from other early
philosophers at the time. Their practice of material monism was a unique way to look
at the world, and some say that it was the first time that individuals tried to unify the
world. While the earlier Milesians namely Thales and Anaximander had developed
their own theories as to explaining what stuff makes up everything, Anaximenes had
done more to supplement and establish his theory. While the term scientist was first
coined by William Whewell in 1833, over two thousand years after Anaximenes and
the other Milesians lived, science had existed long before that (plato.stanford.edu).
Even though Anaximenes lack of true experimentation and the belief that his subjects
were divine made him a thinker rather than a scientist, he was... Show more content

His viewpoint opposed those of Thales and Anaximander, but was more developed;
Thales believed that water was the answer, while Anaximander simply decided that
the answer was indefinite. Anaximenes integrated the processes of rarefaction and
condensation into his theory air could turn into fire through rarefaction, while it could
be turned into water and then into earth by condensation. While he had thought all of
this out extensively, he failed to prove this; Anaximenes never experimented.
Experimentation is a crucial part of the scientific method and, while the method wasn
t established in presocratic society, a true scientific theory or law cannot be created
without it. Additionally, Anaximenes believed that air was a deity. Abstract concepts
in this case, divine principles almost immediately invalidated his beliefs. Divinity has
never been scientifically proven, and including a divine component in a hypothesis

Negative Effects Of Technology In Family Life
It is now possible to earn a college degree from home. Making it possible for anyone
to attend a college that could not make it to a campus in person. Most Universities
and colleges offer degree programs that can be earned online. Students can fit
school into their schedules easier because course material is available anywhere at
any time (Irby Li, 2008). In the past, it was challenging for people, especially older
adults, to fit college into their busy schedules. People that had full time jobs and
families just did not have the time to fit college into their busy lives, even if they
wanted to. Technology has allowed people to work towards a college degree while
working full time and caring for their families. Some jobs offer incentives for their
employees to return to college, which can help them advance in their career;
therefore earning more money. Older college students are finding this method of
college more attractive over the traditional campus classes, which is an incredible
benefit for people and their families. People are now able to keep in contact with
people through social media sites and text messaging. The negative impacts are often
discussed how technology has interfered in family life, but there are positive benefits
to families, too. A recent study revealed that the majority of families feel that
technology has affected their relationships in positive ways (McDaniel Coyne, 2016).

Hair Dye Research Paper
Dyeing your hair for the first time can be a wonderful experience. To avoid any
disappointment, we will be providing you some tips to avoid any unpleasant surprise
for this first experience.
Buy enough dye
Depending on the length of your hair and also your desired color, you might need to
purchase more than one box of hair dye. For instance if you have shoulder length
hair, you might want to ensure that you have 3 or 4 boxes of hair dyes at hand. It is
better that you have more than enough dye rather than panicking halfway during your
dyeing session.
Choose the correct formula
Not all hair dyes are created equal and it is important that you choose the one that
best suits you. People with sensitive skin might want to go for dyes that are foamier
in appearance. This will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will avoid any unnecessary strain on your hair and also minimize the amount
of upkeep you need. You can gradually go for darker colors if you want but keep it
real for the first time. Also choosing a lighter color will allow you to make
corrections in case you do not like it. It is easier to darken hair in case you do not
like it.
Skin tone
When choosing a color for the first time make sure that you choose a shade that is
appropriate for your skin tone. Some people just want their hair to look like their
friends without paying attention to their own skin color. Browse the web for
celebrities that have similar skin tone with you and check out their hair color. Choose
something that is appropriate and not just fashionable.
Do not wash your hair
It is easier to dye unwashed hair because the natural oil found in your scalp protect it
from any harsh chemical irritant. If you know that you are going to dye your hair
soon just skip washing your hair. At the same time, this facilitates combing which can
be useful for even color distribution.

Social Conflict Theory Of Crime
If there was observable increase in crime in a particular community which results in
an increase in burglaries, auto theft and asset, and robbery, one could attribute the
rise in crime to the social conflict theory. The social conflict theory is defined as a
Marco oriented paradigm in sociology that views society as an arena of inequality
that generates conflict and social change. (study.com) Main points in this theoryfocus
on the idea that society is structured to be beneficial to a monody, supported by the
contributions of the majority. For those who share the social conflict theory, there is a
deep rooted belief that a caste system exists which a dominate group is in conflict
with the minority group. Karl Marx was a German philosopher.

Death Row Influence
Gang affiliation has been a major influence on the career path of rappers since the
beginning of the generation X hip hop genre. Rappers, producers, record label
owners, and even the simplest of bodyguards have endured drastic repercussions of
artists unintentionally combining the music industry with their street life. From
having trouble with the law and having trouble in the streets, rap wasn t the only
lifestyle for them. Most are able to escape the effects, while others tend to drown
in the downfall that follows after their unvarying course of adverse decisions.
Specifically in the 1990s, artists of both Death Row and Bad Boy record labels
allowed external street conflicts to interfere with their main focus: music. With the
record labels already having a natural rivalry, the increase of negative
confrontations amplified the tensity between the two. Death Row Records, being
owned by Marion Hugh Suge Knight, an alleged Los Angeles (west coast) Piru

Jack Sparrow And The Golden Age Of Piracy
The Golden Age of Piracy is the subject of many Hollywood films. One of the most
popular film series in recent years is the series Pirates of the Caribbean. But how
accurately does the movie capture the Golden Age of Piracy that spanned from the
1650 s to the 1730 s? In order to answer this question, a team of researchers will
examine the mythology, the pirate s code, the weapons, and compare real pirates to
the main protagonist, Jack Sparrow in the movie to see if he closely resembles the
pirates of real life. Pirates are associated with many things including treasure, their
code, their weapons, and the mythology. In the movie the Black Pearl s crew kidnap

the hazard of a bomb exploding and/or terrorism. To lessen the dangers, a

Railroad Terminals. With a railway station within walking distance to McBride
Financial Services, precautions must be made to mitigate derailing of train cars.
Railway cars contain a great deal of mass. When you combine that with velocity, you
obtain force. A runaway rail car could obtain enough force to destroy sections of
McBride Financial Services. With that in mind, it is essential that McBride invest in
precautionary measures. This could include crafting railway dunes to prevent railway
cars from colliding with McBride s structures.

In any city or town there is always criminal activity present (Albanese, 2003). Sioux

Family Story And Origin Of A New Environment
Every family story and origin is unique to the members of the immediate group,
while including the traditions passed from generation to generation. From the scent
of their house and clothes, special holidays, vacation spots, memories, what they eat
and how it is served; all of these elements of life are distinct to a family. These
elements are incorporated into what is viewed as normal life in a way that we don t
see how our lives differ from those around us, until we are faced with a situation
where things are done differently than us. Many families contain multi cultural
backgrounds, therefore providing generations with traditions that include folklore
from different origins. One of the biggest elements of culture how dishes are served
and prepared. If you ever travel, one of the biggest attractions to a new environment
is the foodthat is served in that area. Some food traditions are difficult to explain
and don t make sense to outsiders, but to the family or local group it is a sense of
definition and unity through foodways. In Louisiana especially, with Cajun culture,
we see many festivals and events that are food based, and the pride in the locals that
serve it. My family, all born and raised in the South, participate in the spicy food,
crawfish boils, jambalaya sales, gumbocooking events that this culture offers. From a
young age I can remember waking up on a Saturday morning in the fall, feeling the
crisp air flow through the house as we had the windows open,
The Brand Of Brand Loyalty
Furthermore, the publication suggests that the brand loyalty is correlated with
market share. So, the bigger the company is, the more loyalty among its customers.
And, this is true because the more people get to know the company, its services, and
its products, the more brand identity it will form among current customers. Also,
large companies benefit from having more loyal customers because they engage in
word of mouth activities which can potentially attract more customers. So, there are
many ways in which a company can increase their loyalty levels. But, when it
comes to increasing market share, a better way could involve the increase in
revenues among consumers. This can be done by opening more stores, offering
products online, and by offering volume discounts. And, as a result, the company
may be able to increase revenues and potentially increase its market share.
Eventually, it could lead to an increase in the amount of loyal customers overall.
Moreover, it can be said that loyalty programs and other related marketingactivities
can only make a difference in the long run because the result are hardly noticeable in
the short run due to the fact that it takes time for a buyer to become an actual loyal
customer.
When it comes to developing a well designed loyalty program, marketers should take
into account the value being offered to consumers with respect to the prices of the
products. This means that a company should offer reasonable rewards to the
customers after they

The New Golden Age of Television
Television is so popular that it is almost a vital part of life to most people. According
to the article The Real Golden Age of Television , the first successful demonstration
of electronic television was introduced on September 7, 1927. (Handy William). It
was designed by Philo Taylor Farnsworth. Charles Jenkins is also an important
person to the creation of television because he created the first mechanical TV on
June 23, 1925. (D Addiro). These two men are responsible for what we have today;
good quality television. Since then television has brought tears, laughter, joy, and
many other memorable moments to the lives of people. Television came to its own
in the 1940 s and 1950 s. During this time period television began to emerge into
the households many families. This was something new to people. Never would
they have thought of being able to sit in watch entertainment out of a TV screen.
Then in the 1964 was the beginning of the old golden age of television. The reason
for this claim is for the invention of color television made it more popular (Clapp).
All television programs were in black and white before this unbelievable creation.
This gave television viewers a better experience than the past because they were able
to see things differently. Though the era was magnificent there was more to come.
Time advanced into the 2000 s and so did television. Many

As I Lay Dying. The author of As I Lay Dying, William Faulkner, really contributes to
the aspects of literature through his ability to tell a seemingly incredible story
through only the stream of consciousness technique. Faulkner takes his insight
beyond the piece, through other s views and thoughts. Although the characters might
be acting differently upon each subject or handling each action in opposite ways, the
tone and theme that he uses really brings the whole piece to a perfect balance. In As
I Lay Dying, Faulkner displays contradicting elements through the reactions of the
family members towards the mother s death with the use of dialogue, tone, imagery,
and internal conflict. When speculating about the only female character, in regards
to the mother, it is evident that a predictable aspect will be found in Dewey Dell
for she carries the female qualities in the story. This statement in As I Lay Dying,
Ma, Dewey Dell says; ma! (Faulkner 48) was the first reaction made by any of the
characters towards the death of the mother, and it came from Dewey Dell. Reasons
for this could be the sexist factor that she is a girl, so her reaction will be more
emotionally projected than that of the male characters. However, the aspect of
Dewey Dell not being able to let go of her mother can also play a role in her reaction.
This idea is expressed through ...the fan is still moving like it has for
Locus Of Control Thesis
Question: How is it possible that our attitudes and values can affect our economic
status? Hypothesis: Internal locus of control refers to the perception that we have
control over what happens to us and what happens to others (37). I believe that
every person, whether they were born into a rich family or had to work from the
day they could walk until the day they die, has potential to succeed. No one ever
wants to take responsibility for their failure, he/she would rather place the blame on
someone else. The individual cannot take all of the blame for their situation, most
of the blame is put on the group to which the individuals belong to, which in this
case is the poverty class (32). It is said that the group of poverty as a whole

The Effects Of Alcohol Drinking Alcohol On Children
Alcohol has always been around in our lifetimes. If you enjoy it now then what if
you had it at an earlier age? What if your parents allowed you to drink it? What if
your children could drink it without any problems. Alcohol by itself is not dangerous
at all if consumption is regulated and drinking responsibly. Each day, it seems more
and more incidents involving the influence of alcoholor being drunk are occurring
more often. That creates a very negative image of alcohol, and minors could be
educated about those problems through experience at a young age. An age where
they will be less likely to drive drunk or commit a federal offense. Alcohol is a
substance that can influence the drinker s thought process and actions. Some
authoritative figures believe this will have a negative effect on children.
However, positive results can come from a minor drinking alcohol at a younger
age than when they can be sent to jail or injure themselves. Therefore, minors
should be allowed to drink alcoholic beverages in their homes with their parent s
approval. This is necessary because incidents with abuse of alcohol being involved
seem to occur more everyday. In addition, minors need to be able to see how
alcohol will affect their lives before they ruin it with abuse in the future.
Furthermore, the effect of alcohol on a young body can be prevented by supervision.
Finally, even with all the negative points of alcohol and abusing it, using alcohol now
will prove to help the future

The Status of Women in China As Explained in Two Essays...
Throughout time, women have often been referred to as the inferior gender. In
China, women have had to go through dire circumstances in order to look good in
the public eye. From foot binding, to enduring abusive husbands, to becoming
concubines in a prison like house, women have been through hell in order to please
their men, and, most importantly, to please their society. There are a series of
double standards and contradictions to how men and women are treated, and this is
shown in both Lu Xun and Qiu Jun s essays as well as in the film, Raise the Red
Lantern. Set the scene: it is China during the 1920s and women do not have a voice.

This double standard that was placed on women is portrayed through the entire
movie. For example, Songlian was an educated woman, and there was a moment in
the film when she wished to play her flute, but, upon finding it missing, she
immediately began searching for it. As it turned out, the Master had the flute
burned because he had suspected that it was from a college boy. He used the flute
to keep Songlian in her place because, at the time, women were not supposed to
know how to play flutes, a point proven when Songlian had confronted her maid and
her maid simply stated, Flutes can only be played by men (Raise the Red Lantern).
However, at the end of the film, Songlian seems to come to the realization that she is
happier by herself than she is while fighting with the other wives to receive the
Master s attention. Songlian had initially lost herself to the role of a concubine, but it
is shown that, through the harshness of her realization and of witnessing the hanging
of the third wife, she went insane. She seemed to have lost all will to live because
she was stuck. She could not escape this life, and, instead of playing along, she
simply gave up. In fact, Songlian lost her role as a woman by the end. She was
referred to as the Hysteric instead of a woman, a wife, or a concubine (Raise the Red
Lantern). She was simply a thing that had gone
King Alfred the Great Essay
King Alfred the Great
King Alfred the Great was born at Wantage, in 849, on a royal manor of his father s
holding, a family estate which long afterward he himself would leave in legacy to
his wife. Alfred was the youngest of five children, four sons and a daughter, born
to Ethelwulf by his wife Osburh. When Alfred was four years old, his father, the
king, who by now had long despaired of getting to Rome in the present state of
things, decided to send Alfred there, to at least receive the blessing of the Holy
Father. The pope at the time, Leo the IV, gave Alfred the blessing to become king.

However, Alfred was not content with being on the defensive. He also attacked the
Danish held City of London in an attempt to diminish the lands ruled under Dane
law (Bruce 4). No Anglo Saxon king was ever strong enough to coerce a
recalcitrant peasantry. Except Alfred who decided to allow half the men liable for
service to remain at home while the other half was out against the Danes (Stenton
261). In order for Alfred to keep peace and defeat the Danes, he had to win many
major battles. On Easter Sunday 878, when King Alfred withdrew into the Isle of
Athelney, there was every likelihood that before the end of the year Wessexwould
have been divided out among the members of the Danish army. King Alfred made
sure that Wessex would escape that fate. Although Alfred did lose a major battle
against the Danes only four years ago, he overcame them in 878 when he won the
Battle of Edington. Alfred showed strong resistance by constantly engaging Danish
raiding parties from his base in Athelney. After nearly seven weeks of strong
battles, Alfred was able to begin defeating the Danes (Stenton 253). Along with
Alfred s idea of coercing a recalcitrant peasantry, he had other ways of defeating the
Danes as well. Alfred began building warships in order to develop a navy. The ships
in which Alfred built were twice as long as those which they were intended to meet
(Stenton 253). These

The proximity to the CBD meant they could easily travel to and from their work in

them was now in the Pyrmont area. Crown Casino, Channel 7 and Google are a few
companies that chose to relocate to the Pyrmont area. The impacts of this renewal is
it has lead to the area becoming a lot mote productive which was done by the
population growth and growth in jobs.
Another area currently going through urban decay and renewal is the Rhodes
peninsula. The area had been associated with Sydney s industrial history since the
1900 s when in 1928 Timbrol, a chemical making company, decided to relocate
there. After then many more companies in a similar industry decided to move there
as well. The chemical era in Rhodes had stopped by the 1980 s but the land was
unable to house residential apartments because of the contamination left by the
chemical plants, it therefore went into decay. This left a large spot of 23ha unable
to be used for any type of commercial, residential or industrial buildings. In the late
90 s the area was recognised for its potential and was fully redeveloped, getting rid
of any chemicals that may have been there from the factories. The result of the
redevelopment has seen many more companies of a commercial type want to have
offices there. This increased the interest to live in the area, which therefore made
developers build many more high to mid density buildings in the

Fundamental Analysis Ever hear someone say that a company has strong
fundamentals ? The phrase is so overused that it s become somewhat of a clichГ©.
Any analyst can refer to a company s fundamentals without actually saying
anything meaningful. So here we define exactly what fundamentals are, how and
why they are analyzed, and why fundamental analysis is often a great starting point
to picking good companies. The Theory Doing basic fundamental valuation is
quite straightforward; all it takes is a little time and energy. The goal of analyzing
a company s fundamentals is to find a stock s intrinsic value, a fancy term for what
you believe a stock is really worth as opposed to the value at which it is being traded
in the marketplace. If the intrinsic value is more than the current share price, your
analysis is showing that the stock is worth more than its price and that it makes sense

Having compared the differences, it is still worth noting that Markowitz did not rule
out fundamental analysis in portfolio selection process, as is said in his foregoing
paper,(Markowitz, 1952) the process of selecting a portfolio may be divided into two
stages.
The first stage starts with observation and experience and ends with beliefs about the
future performances of available securities. The second stage starts with relevant
beliefs about future performances and ends with the choice of portfolio. This paper is
concerned with the second stage .
Part 2 Efficient Market Hypothesis
The strong form of efficient market hypothesis states that all information, no matter
public or private, instantaneously affects current stock price. Semi strong form is
only concerned with public information, while the weak form suggests that current
stock price reflects information in the previous prices. In short, they simply imply
that in the long run, no one should be able to beat the market in terms of investment
return.
As is said in Fama s paper in 1970, (Eugene F, 1970) the evidence in support of the
efficient markets model is extensive, and (somewhat uniquely in economics)
contradictory evidence is sparse . However, Warren Buffet has always criticised
efficient market hypothesis as much as he could. The major

In conclusion life is a rite of passage. The only certainty we have is that we will all

Dinosaurs And Birds Essay
Dinosaurs and Birds
Are birds really dinosaurs or are they simply related? That is a question that has
gained new life in recent years due to the overwhelming facts the are pouring in
from newly found fossils and studies from fossils that have been found in the past.
Two groups have formed in the study of this question: those who believe birds are a
direct result of dinosaurs and those who feel dinosaurs and birds must have had a
common ancestor. Determining which view is correct is a matter of opinion based
on fact. The main problem involves the use of cladistics or phylogenetic systematics
to group organisms according to characteristics they share. When one looks at
dinosaur fossils, he or she may feel that certain ... Show more content on

Also, support is gaining that Archaeopteryx was not in fact the first bird, but instead
a descendent of an earlier bird ancestor that had developed along a different pathway
and actually represents an evolutionary dead end.
Two opponents of the birds are dinosaurs theory are Alan Feduccia of the
University of North Carolina and Larry Martin of the University of Kansas. They
believe that birds evolved from some unknown reptile from a time before dinosaurs
came to be. One point they make is that flight must have begun from tree climbing
or an arboreal ancestor but that all the proposed dinosaurian ancestors were ground
dwellers or cursorial On the other side, supporters for the birds are dinosaurs theory
feel there is an unknown dinosaur bird that was arboreal, or simply that birds evolved
flight from the ground by chasing after insects.
In recent years other fossil finds have stirred the argument even more. One of these
is the fossil named Sinosauroptyrex found in China. It appears to be an important
link between birds and dinosaurs. Sinosauropteryx appears to be a feathered
dinosaur having a mane of feathers along its neck, back, and tail a feature until then
seen only in birds. Sinosauroptyrex appears before Archaeopteryx and gives a
substantial link between the theropods and birds. One opponent of this find is Martin

  • 3. New South Vs Old South The New South was 2/3 new in the areas of politics and economics; however, it was not new in race relations. Before Reconstruction initiated in 1865, slaves were treated very austerely jobs and rules. However, this changed after the Union victory in the Civil War. This gave some 4 million slaves their freedom, but the process of rebuilding the south brought a set of substantial challenges. In 1865, a period of Presidential Reconstruction began because President Lincoln was assassinated. This meant that all of Lincolns plans for reconstruction had to fall to his successor Andrew Johnson. Black codes were then passed in Legislation controlling the work and behavior of former slaves and African Americans. These codes were not liked by many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The old south was very dependent on agriculture especially the crop of cotton. If the cotton plants were eaten by Boll Weevil, the agriculture field would significantly fall. However, the old south was also dependent on their secondary plant tobacco. Southern tobacco production rose after the Civil War as two new varieties had been founded and a new way to cure the tobacco. Textiles began to boom and industrialization was in full force. Cotton consumption went from 182,000 bales before the war to 1,479,000 bales after the war. Railroad lines were crossing the country, so the south could profit from other country s productivity. Refrigerated rail cars also allowed southern produce to reach northern markets, which further expanded the economy. Not only did agriculture better, but so did textiles. Birmingham, Alabama was known for its iron, limestone, and coal production which was a very important resource for the traveling of trains. Southern coal production increased from 5 million tons per year to 49 million tons per year. Hydroelectricity was a growing source in the south which was a big step in the industrialization process. Lastly, the south was offered pine trees which helped restore those homes taken down in the war. The lumber industry grew to create paper, clay, glass, and stone were in high demand, non fresh vegetables were sent on railroad carts and canned in other places,

Throughout the years, many religions were founded, radical groups, reforms happened, people s actions went down in history, and there were many changes to the way that our nation is ran, including foreign policy, leaders, and laws. • 6. Applying The Thin Flexible Compression Column For... This report provides a comprehensive design methodology for the thin flexible compression column for implementation into a load bearing garment. The thin flexible compression column exists as part of a larger load bearing system, which has military and civilian applications in load assist and injury prevention. This system was designed to quasi actively assist in the load carriage for a soldier(body armor and rucksack) without sacrificing safety, flexibility, or comfort. The column serves as the connection between shoulder and waist, transferring load in compression. The studies begin with the development of the initial concept, the continuous floating constraint buckling column. This concept consists of a flexible composite column, under axial loading, buckling to higher modes between rigid lateral constraints. The concept is proven by a comprehensive experimental demonstration. A dynamic FEA model of that system is developed and studied. Experimental response proved consistent with FEA results. The model accurately predicts buckling forces, lateral reaction forces, stresses, strains, friction, modal shapes, and deflection. The geometric variables of the continuous floating constraint were optimized using the FEA model, and final tests were carried out. A second more flexible concept is devised using the lessons learned from the continuous floating constraint design and FEA model. The results generated from the FEA model as well as practical considerations
  • 7. What Was The Benefit Of The Puritan Society As the Puritans left England to escape religious persecution, they established a thriving society in New England, based on puritan doctrine, virtue, and the church. They intended to create a utopian society that would honor God s laws. They intended for this utopia to be an example to the world. However, as religious dissenters gained a voice, Puritanism seemed to splinter and secular concerns became more important to the citizens of the New Englandarea, the region lost the homogenous culture it once had. The founders of New England had one major benefit when they were settling. The charter given to their company, the Massachusetts Bay Company, contained a provision that allowed the government of the colony to be located in the colony itself. This allowed the like minded individuals who settled the colony, to begin with, to set their own laws, and elect their own government officials. These founders did not want the church to be controlled by the State, as they felt it was in England, so they made it illegal for Ministers and Preachers to hold Public office. They did, however, expect the community to live up to certain religious standards. They wanted to live as saintly as possible to prove they were members of the elect, destined for heaven, and they wanted to uphold Gods Laws so that God would prevent great hardship and disaster from befalling the colony. These standards were enforced with the power of Law, and intense peer pressure. All people were required to attend

According to Levin and McEwan (2001, p.14) Cost benefit analysis is a tool that evaluates to the assessment of choices as indicated by their costs and benefits when each is measured in economic terms. However Prest and Turvey defined cost benefit analysis as a practical way of assessing the desirability of projects, where it is important to take a long view (in sense of looking at repercussions in the further, as well as the nearer, future) and a wide view (in the sense of allowing for side effects of many kinds of many persons, industries, regions, etc.) i.e it implies the enumerations and evaluation of all the relevant costs and benefits . The aim of CBA is to put a monetary values on the benefit anticipated from the project and difference the costs which are relied upon to

Ambitious kings, whether or not they made moves to keep their kingdoms hold on the Papacy, could still find ways to subvert and control its power to their advantage. Also, large companies benefit from having more loyal customers because they engage in word of mouth activities which can potentially attract more customers. In order for Alfred to keep peace and defeat the Danes, he had to win many major battles. On Easter Sunday 878, when King Alfred withdrew into the Isle of Athelney, there was every likelihood that before the end of the year Wessexwould have been divided out among the members of the Danish army. King Alfred made sure that Wessex would escape that fate. Although Alfred did lose a major battle against the Danes only four years ago, he overcame them in 878 when he won the Battle of Edington. Alfred showed strong resistance by constantly engaging Danish raiding parties from his base in Athelney. After nearly seven weeks of strong battles, Alfred was able to begin defeating the Danes (Stenton 253). Along with Alfred s idea of coercing a recalcitrant peasantry, he had other ways of defeating the Danes as well. Alfred began building warships in order to develop a navy. The ships in which Alfred built were twice as long as those which they were intended to meet (Stenton 253). These

Another area currently going through urban decay and renewal is the Rhodes peninsula. The area had been associated with Sydney s industrial history since the 1900 s when in 1928 Timbrol, a chemical making company, decided to relocate there. After then many more companies in a similar industry decided to move there as well. The chemical era in Rhodes had stopped by the 1980 s but the land was unable to house residential apartments because of the contamination left by the chemical plants, it therefore went into decay. This left a large spot of 23ha unable to be used for any type of commercial, residential or industrial buildings. In the late 90 s the area was recognised for its potential and was fully redeveloped, getting rid of any chemicals that may have been there from the factories. The result of the redevelopment has seen many more companies of a commercial type want to have offices there. This increased the interest to live in the area, which therefore made developers build many more high to mid density buildings in the

Investopedia.com Your Source For Investing Education. Fundamental Analysis Ever hear someone say that a company has strong fundamentals ? The phrase is so overused that it s become somewhat of a clichГ©. Any analyst can refer to a company s fundamentals without actually saying anything meaningful. So here we define exactly what fundamentals are, how and why they are analyzed, and why fundamental analysis is often a great starting point to picking good companies. The Theory Doing basic fundamental valuation is quite straightforward; all it takes is a little time and energy. The goal of analyzing a company s fundamentals is to find a stock s intrinsic value, a fancy term for what you believe a stock is really worth as opposed to the value at which it is being traded in the marketplace. If the intrinsic value is more than the current share price, your analysis is showing that the stock is worth more than its price and that it makes sense
  • 37. The Fishing Expedtion The welcome arch spanned the two lanes and looked sturdy enough to drive a tank across. The rest of Church Street proceeds a half a mile or so from the sign to James Street and the middle of the village. This street and many of the adjoining side streets conjured up images of a quaint New England town with a profusion of oaks and maples surrounding well kept, two story, wooden framed houses. The Village maintained a strip of grass between the curb and the sidewalks that run parallel to the street on both sides. The areas close to the houses typically displayed neatly trimmed scrubs and flowers. I m ready to get checked into our motel then the rest of you can do whatever you want until dinnertime, Mom said. We turned left onto Crossman Street midway between the arch and downtown and proceeded to the Maple Crest Motel. It was after five when we finished checking in, which was a good thing because Mr. Root was only a part time caretaker but had a full time job refinishing boats at Hutchinson s Boat Works. His workday had ended at the same time we got to town. Consequently he was available to help us attempt to get the Buzz running. Mr. Root s son, Wilford, and Wilford s wife, Kay, owned the Maple Crest adding to the convenience and family atmosphere. The Motel s location was just up the street from Otter Creek and Wilford s dock where Buzz was tied up. Kay called her father in law to let him know we had arrived. While we waited, my dad, Wilford, and I chatted in the motel

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Having compared the differences, it is still worth noting that Markowitz did not rule out fundamental analysis in portfolio selection process, as is said in his foregoing paper,(Markowitz, 1952) the process of selecting a portfolio may be divided into two stages. The first stage starts with observation and experience and ends with beliefs about the future performances of available securities. The second stage starts with relevant beliefs about future performances and ends with the choice of portfolio. This paper is concerned with the second stage . Part 2 Efficient Market Hypothesis The strong form of efficient market hypothesis states that all information, no matter public or private, instantaneously affects current stock price. Semi strong form is only concerned with public information, while the weak form suggests that current stock price reflects information in the previous prices. In short, they simply imply that in the long run, no one should be able to beat the market in terms of investment return. As is said in Fama s paper in 1970, (Eugene F, 1970) the evidence in support of the efficient markets model is extensive, and (somewhat uniquely in economics) contradictory evidence is sparse . However, Warren Buffet has always criticised

The only certainty we have is that we will all experience them and once we have gone through the phases of a rite of passage we will never be the same person. That is a question that has gained new life in recent years due to the overwhelming facts the are pouring in from newly found fossils and studies from fossils that have been found in the past. Two groups have formed in the study of this question: those who believe birds are a direct result of dinosaurs and those who feel dinosaurs and birds must have had a common ancestor. Determining which view is correct is a matter of opinion based on fact. The main problem involves the use of cladistics or phylogenetic systematics to group organisms according to characteristics they share. Also, support is gaining that Archaeopteryx was not in fact the first bird, but instead a descendent of an earlier bird ancestor that had developed along a different pathway and actually represents an evolutionary dead end. Two opponents of the birds are dinosaurs theory are Alan Feduccia of the University of North Carolina and Larry Martin of the University of Kansas. They believe that birds evolved from some unknown reptile from a time before dinosaurs came to be. One point they make is that flight must have begun from tree climbing or an arboreal ancestor but that all the proposed dinosaurian ancestors were ground dwellers or cursorial On the other side, supporters for the birds are dinosaurs theory feel there is an unknown dinosaur bird that was arboreal, or simply that birds evolved flight from the ground by chasing after insects. In recent years other fossil finds have stirred the argument even more. One of these is the fossil named Sinosauroptyrex found in China. It appears to be an important link between birds and dinosaurs. Sinosauropteryx appears to be a feathered dinosaur having a mane of feathers along its neck, back, and tail a feature until then seen only in birds. Sinosauroptyrex appears before Archaeopteryx and gives a substantial link between the theropods and birds. One opponent of this find is Martin who feels the

This period gets its name from a place in Wales where the first examples of this type of ancient life was found. The Cambrian Period marks an important point in the history of life on earth; it is the time when most of the major groups of animals first appear in the fossil record. Many of these were probably pieces of the skeletons of larger animals. Arthropods Many of the Cambrian creatures appear to be arthropods, the large classification of animals that includes insects, spiders, crabs, and lobsters. An animal similar to the lobopod, Aysheaia might represent a step in this transformation: It appears to be a worm with legs , which are lobopods. A lobopod consists of muscles surrounding a blood filled cavity. Lobopods are soft and pliable but they accomplish the purpose of moving the animal along. Each lobopod has a couple of claws at its end and the front two have spikes which apparently serve the purpose of grasping prey. Anomalocaris may also lie in the line leading to arthropods: Anomalocaris shows its relation to the lobopodians by having lobopods for legs. In addition it has a tail fan and flaplike projections that perform several purposes: protection, propulsion, and respiration: A vast variety of arthropods and closely related animals evolved:
