man is working. Philippa Foothas arranged that no matter which way the driver
turns, it would be impossible for the workmen to get off the track safely and on
time to avoid being run down by the trolley (Thomson 1395). As a first instinct, the
driver tries to slam on the trolley s brakes to avoid hitting any of the workmen.
Unfortunately, the brakes on the trolley do not work. Thus, the driver is left facing
this situation: should he continue going straight or should he quickly turn the
trolley to the right? If he stays straight, he will continue hurdling towards the five
helpless workmen, inevitably hitting and killing all five of them. If he flips to

1.When did the outreach clients begin hanging out in their groups on the street at
night?
On that night, we have encountered four groups of clients. The first group seems to
be around 17 21 years old and is a little bit hostile, so we did not spend much time
with them and failed to ask questions. Based upon the conversation between the
group and the social workers, they have probably stayed at that particular spot for 2
hours which mean they began hanging out before ten o clock.
The second group consists of 4 men (probably at 20 24 years old) and has gathered
together in the evening. They spent their evening playing basketball with a social
worker called Ben Sir and continue their night with poker, cigar and beers.
We have met the third group in the spot called the present box and it was the largest
group on that night with 2 women and 8 men between the ages of 19 and 24. The
gathering time differs among the group; there were new comers at one o clock in the
early morning, but most of the group began their gathering in about 10 o clock.
The last group of clients was relatively younger in which all of them are secondary
school students (Form 3 4). We do not know if we should consider them as night
drifters or not since the social workers have never seen any of them in the past one

African Americans all willing and able to attend any institution, it is difficult now
to envision a world where, because of one s skin color, a person is denied
university acceptance. In actuality, this world existed only fifty years ago. In a time

Once news spread that James Meredith, an African Americanmale, applied, rage
broke loose specifically in one major figurehead: Governor Ross R. Barnett ( Barnett
1). After a resistant uproar against James Meredith, the battle moved to the court
system. After numerous court dates and appearances, the judge decided that [t]he
university was under a Federal Court order to admit the Negro, James H. Meredith
(1). However, Governor Barnett refused to allow African Americans into any
Mississippi state institution. With an idea called interposition, he also furiously
commented that he would not abide to the national court system s demands unless
the state legislature told them to enact such policies. Knowing that his own state
legislature would not besiege him, Governor Barnett confidently took a stance against
integration by publicly stating, No school will be integrated in Mississippi while I
am your Governor (2). However, after Federal District Judge Sidney C. Mize charged
and convicted numerous resistors, including Lieutenant Governor Paul B. Johnson,
of civil contempt of Federal court, their attitudes changed slightly, but not much
(Smith 1).
With regards to the famous 1950s and 1960s essayist James Baldwin, he eloquently
writes about African Americans need for equality. In his essay The White Man s
Guilt, Baldwin states that African Americans equal feelings plummeted down so far
