Nhs Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of "NHS" presents a unique set of challenges. Firstly, it requires
a deep understanding of the National Honor Society and its core values. This involves
researching the history, mission, and criteria for membership. Delving into the organization's
principles is crucial to ensure that the essay reflects a profound comprehension of what it means
to be a part of the NHS.
Moreover, addressing personal experiences and achievements becomes a delicate balance. The
essay should not read as a mere list of accomplishments but should instead weave a narrative that
demonstrates the applicant's alignment with the NHS values. This involves introspection and the
ability to connect individual experiences with the broader ideals of scholarship, leadership,
service, and character.
Another layer of complexity lies in presenting oneself humbly yet convincingly. The essay must
not come across as self-aggrandizing, but it should effectively communicate why the applicant is
a suitable candidate for NHS membership. This calls for a careful selection of anecdotes and
accomplishments that highlight qualities without sounding boastful.
Furthermore, maintaining a coherent and engaging flow throughout the essay is essential. The
challenge is to seamlessly integrate personal experiences, reflections, and aspirations, creating a
compelling narrative that captures the attention of the reader.
Additionally, adhering to any specific guidelines or word limits set by the application process
adds an extra layer of difficulty. Striking a balance between providing sufficient information and
staying within the given constraints demands meticulous editing and revising.
In conclusion, composing an essay on the topic of "NHS" is a challenging task that requires a
combination of research, self-reflection, humility, and effective storytelling. It is not merely
about showcasing achievements but about demonstrating a genuine commitment to the values
upheld by the National Honor Society. For those seeking assistance, it's worth exploring
resources like HelpWriting.net, where similar essays and more can be ordered to navigate the
intricacies of this challenging writing endeavor.

Examples Of Aestheticism In The Picture Of Dorian Gray
Oscar Wilde was one of the most famous writers in the history of England. He lived
in the 19th century and was one of the major contributors to the Aesthetic
movement. He was a spokesperson for aestheticism. He tried his hand at various
literary activities. He was an Irish playwright, novelist, essayist and poet. He refined
his ideas about the importance of art in a series of dialogues and essays, and
incorporated themes of duplicity, beauty and decadence. He incorporated all these
vital characteristics that define the supremacy of art into his only novel The Picture
of Dorian graywritten in 1890. This novel bore the true essence of what an aesthetic
literature brought to the table. The strong themes of beauty, narcissism, and... Show

The portrayal of women, as nothing more than props; as household decorations
and people of leisure and entertainment without any intellect or wit calls to question
of how Wilde s views of women are. It has been conjectured that the reason for this
apathy for women characterization is due to his sexual orientation. He being a
homosexual brings about the idea that he doesn t want a female character with a
decent role or to ever be in the position to ever sexualize a female character. The
Character Henry Wotton is a very powerful and dominant character. He is an
intelligent man and never lets up a moment to propagate his hedonistic and
misogynistic viewpoints. It is believed that Lord Henry is the mouthpiece that
Wilde uses to voice his own views and opinions. So, we can, to some extent,
associate Lord Henry to Wilde and question his viewpoints on people and society.
One of his quotes extracted from the novel illustrates how he talks about women
My dear boy, no woman is a genius. Women are a decorative sex. They never have
anything to say, but they say it charmingly. Women represent the triumph of matter
over mind, just as men represent the triumph of mind over morals (4.9)
This quote was taken from one of the many sage advices that Lord Henry imparts to
Dorian. Dorian was a kid who was brought up humble, gentle and was taught not
A Doll s House Nora Helmer Essay

The Contributions Of Louis XIV And The Power Of France
Louis XIV turned France around from an unorganized feuding country to one of
the most organized, powerful, innovative monarchies in Europe. In addition, he
managed to advance civil equality among the people by turning all the people into
his loyal subjects (Norton, p.175). How did he do all this? The armed forces that
had formerly been a private enterprise who had been fighting against each other or
had hired themselves out for payment, was taken over and consolidated into one
entity fighting, by the king for the king. He made war an activity of the state
which produced peace and order in France while strengthening the fighting power
of France against other states (Norton, p.175). In addition, he put soldiers in
uniform, taught them how to march in step and housed them in barracks which
assisted them in becoming more susceptible to discipline and control (Norton,
p.175). There was now a hierarchy in place and was able to get a greater degree of
government control that put him on the top as the commander in chief of the army
due to his power and the creation of the first large civilian administration (Norton,
p.176). This was the first time that ministers of war consisted of civilians and this
grew the armies power exponentially. Louis XIV also overhauled the grandeur of
France when he took an old village Versailles and turned it into the palace of
Versaillesthat became known as one of the most splendid marvels in Europe so much
so, that it became the envy of lessor kings.
The Mystique Of Harley Davidson Today
Harley Davidson has built itself as a company in such a way that today it is the
most popular and respected name in the motorcycle manufacturing industry and it is
not without reason: Their each part is tuned to perfection, to be the best and do the
best what it is meant to do. Harley Davidson was founded in 1903 and it is one of
the only two motorcyclecompanies which was able to survive the Great Depression
in the 1930s but that was not its only test. It has been able to survive through many
a tough times with competition to reach where it has but now, it wouldn t be an
exaggeration to say that Harley Davidson has shaped the motorcycle culture in
USA. In fact it wouldn t even be wrong to say that it has created a culture of its own;
something that people refer to as Harley culture or even Harley mania.

The Old Gringo In Mexico Chapter Summary
1.Describe how Latin America, its history, culture, socio political construction and
backdrop enter into these chapters.
a.Since they are traveling for most of this chapter, there is some mention of the
scenery they are passing, such as them crossing the mountains and the desert (145).
This also provided context for how far they are travelling since we know that they
are going to Mexico City to join the forces of Pancho Villa. We also see one
example of how women were treated in Mexico during this time period when La
Luna s husband threatened to throw her in the cellar for talking to a strange man on
the street. There is also a glimpse of what Mexico was like at the beginning of the
Mexican Revolution. Armed revolutionaries bust into ... Show more content on

The old gringo went to Mexico to die because he felt like he had to do so because
of the overwhelming guilt he felt when a realized that he had abandoned his
family for his job and may have indirectly caused the deaths of some of his loved
ones. It s almost as if he is trying to repent for his sins before he dies by punishing
himself by making his life/journey difficult. He obviously accomplished his
mission of dying when Arroyo shot and killed him, but I also think that his
relationship with Harriet helped him to repent and find himself because he had a
chance to be a father to her like he never was to his own children. On the day that
the old gringo was shot, he seemed to know that it was going to be his last day.
According to Harriet, the old gringo was clean, shaven, [and] perfumed, as if in
preparation for some great ceremony (144), which was unusual for him. I think he
was preparing for his death because he always said that he wanted to be a good
looking corpse
Regarding Henry Research Paper
Many people see the Id as selfish and impulsive and the Superego good because it
helps you make good decisions. In the following text I will explain the difference
between the Superego and the Id and I will compare moments from the movie
Regarding Henry to this statement and see if the thought that the Id is bad and the
superego is good is true or if it is more complex. Also I will say if you could live
with only one of them or if you need both. The movie Regarding Henry is a good
example to compare Id and Superego. The movie is about Henry who is a famous
lawyer. One day he gets shot in the head and forgets everything about his life. After
a long time in the hospital he comes back to his old life. But he is not able to
continue living like before because he changed and is a complete new person. In the
beginning of the movie Henry uses his Id to make decisions when he is working. You
can see that when he helps the hospital even when he knows that they are lying. But
he is thinking about earning money for himself and completely ignoring the fact that
what he is doing is not right. ThatВґs one of the moments where you can see the...

But after some time he quits his job as a lawyer because he stopped using his Id
for his work and started using his Superego. Because of this he sees that what he is
doing is not right. In the movie he looks at his old cases again and asks his
coworkers why he lied. They tell him that this is no problem and it is right to do it
but he still doesnВґt think that it is okay. So he gives the woman whose man lost his
case because of Henry a folder with arguments that can help her winning the case.
This shows the moral side of the Superego. But the movie shows also a bad side of
the Superego. The Superego can sometimes be too much to handle like when Henry
heard his old friends talking bad about him and he wouldnВґt leave his bed at the next
day and stopped going to

2008, p 157) Perceptual mapping is event because of the in depth description of the
consumer counter culture given in the case study.
A social system is a physical, social or cultural environment to which people belong
and within which they function. (Schiffman et al. 2008 p 504) The surf culture is
therefore a social system, as depicted by their annexed culture.
Reference groups are groups that serve as frames of reference for individuals in their
purchase or consumption decisions (Schiffman et al. 2008). The company s target
market rely very heavily on their primary groups; mainly friendship and virtual
groups as was demonstrated in the case study via blogs and the mob mentality of the
vibe. In other words these contractual groups are affecting the consumers decision
making process.
A brand community can be defined as an enduring self selected group of actors
sharing a system of values, standards and representations (a culture) and recognizing
bonds of membership with each other and with the whole. (Wikipedia 2009) This was
the case originally; as seen from the entities continuous growth, popularity and
identification with its consumers.

Stoney Creek Stream Analysis
Stoney creek is a salmon spawning stream located on Burnaby Mountain, British
Columbia, Canada (The City of Burnaby, 2016). However, the site is constantly being
threatened by nearby urban constructions and development (Stoney Creek
Environment Committee, n.d.). Thus, organizations were created to protect, maintain
and monitor this important salmon rearing stream(Stoney Creek Environment
Committee, n.d.). A few methods that the organizations utilize to analyse Stoney
Creek, is to survey its habitat conditions and test the water quality and quantity
(Taccogna et al., 1995). This will require the assessment of vegetation availability,
flow velocity, volume, discharge, water chemistry and conditions (Taccogna et al.,
1995). Compiling and documenting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These characteristics involve streambed material, embeddedness, pool habtat
percentage, off channel habitat, bank stability, bank vegetation percentage, overhead
canopy and riparian zone. Certain points to note is that there is an abundant variety
and amount of vegetation (such as conifers and shrubs) surrounding the creek which
provides shade, protection and their roots provide bank stability (Taccogna et al.,
1995). Another point to consider is that undisturbed streams will have little to no
embeddedness (Taccogna et al., 1995). Unfortunately, our results from the 25
streambed samples suggests 41% embeddedness of gravel and rock, meaning there
was some stream disturbance. Coniferous trees are also present which may increase
the streams acidity (Taccogna et al., 1995). Again, plentiful vegetation also increases
bank stability and decrease risks of erosion which could disturb many sensitive
aquatic creatures (Taccogna et al., 1995). For that reason, destruction on its
environmental surroundings should be avoided at all costs. Overall, with a score of
90, the habitat quality of Stoney Creek is in the acceptable

An Investigation of Chemical Vapour Deposition of
Graphene...
Graphene exhibits numerous unique properties, which have caused large scale
research of the material. For example, its charge carriers have zero effective mass
(called Dirac fermions) and exhibit ultra relativistic effects , therefore possess
mobility s of up to 200,000 cm2V 1s 1; the material shows the half integer quantum
Hall effect and shows absorption of 2.3% of the visible spectrum of light .
Graphene of the highest quality and best structural integrity is acquired by

method is structurally superior, it is used as a reference and new methods are

This phenomenon is a result of the separation of carbon from the metal carbide,
which occurs at a high rate upon cooling, in Ni grains and occurs heterogeneously
at the various grain boundaries. Thus, carbon can precipitate out of the grain
boundaries, resulting in greater thickness of graphene at the edges of a layer.
However, extremely high quality uniform monolayers of graphene have been
deposited using polycrystalline copper foils, on diameters of up to 76 cm2,10.
Raman analysis shows that copper foils treated at atmospheric pressure, show up to
95% monolayer coverage, with 5% bi layer or tri layer graphene10. These values are
not related to the growth time or the rate of heating and cooling. In addition, copper
foils are relatively cost efficient and are etched simply with solvents that are readily
available. Chemically etching the transition metal is the best method to transfer
graphene deposited on the substrate, resulting in free floating graphene membranes.
Copper is used as it has the lowest affinity and solubility of carbon, as it does not
form a carbide phase, relative to Ni and Co . This is attributed to copper s filled 3d
electron shell, possessing an electron configuration of [Ar] 3d104s1, which due to its
symmetrical electronic configuration reduces reciprocal electronic repulsions. In
addition, copper is able to transfer charge from the ПЂ electrons of the sp2 carbons
to the empty 4s orbital of
The Breakdown of Ithaka
In the lands of Pylos and Sparta, the kingdoms are prospering and in the favor of
the gods. However, in Ithaka, the kingdom is falling to pieces. Why are the
kingdoms so different in their success? Homer puts these three kingdoms side by
side in The Odyssey, making it easy to find similarities and differences between the
three. Pylos and Sparta, ruled by Nestor and Menelaos, could not be more
successful. Ithaka, currently has no king in its throne and chaos is resulting from the
battle for the coveted seat. Compared to the kingdoms of Nestor and Menelaos,
Ithaka is breaking down from the loss of order and their leader, Odysseus.
Sparta and Pylos are successful, thriving kingdoms, so what makes Ithaka break
down? Menelaos has a mansion that is the way the court of Zeus must be (4.72).
He has no end of riches, and Sparta is prospering right along with him. Menelaos
rules with compassion and this makes him a great ruler. In Pylos, Nestor sacrifices
an impressive heifer for Athena; his goldsmith gloved each horn in a pure foil
beaten out of the gold that Nestor gave him (3.437 438). This costly sacrifice is no
expense, because Pylos is a wealthy country. Also, what is added to the success of
Pylos, is the great rule of Nestor. He is a wise and generous soul, who strides to
keep his kingdom under the favor of the gods. Athena truly favors Nestor in which
she wishes honor to Nestor and his sons (3.58). There is no mortal half so wise
(1.64) as Odysseus, the ruler of
Engagement And Health
Engagement with art activities, either as the observer of the creative efforts of
others or as an initiator of their own creative efforts, can enhance moods, emotions,
and other psychological states as well as a salient impact on important physiological
parameters. Health is defined as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well
being rather than the absence of disease or infirmity. The article compares art,
healing, and healthas one. Chronic diseases are a burden, with cardiovascular disease
being the leading cause of death and the incidence of diabetes continuing to increase.
These diseases are associated with psychosocial difficulties like depression and
chronic stress, contributing to negative cardiovascular outcomes. Engagement
Religions Around The World Today
There are many different religions around the world today. We all have our own
opinions on whether or not we believe in God or not, but what makes every
religion different from the other could be because of traditions or rituals, the way
we dress based on our religion or the place we worship. However the one thing we all
have in common is we turn to religionto guide us in one way or another for greater
depth or to set us down the right path in life. Firstly there is Hinduism. Hindus
believe that their position in today s society was determined by the things they did
or participated in, in their previous lives. For example, if a person s behaviour in
the past was very negative instead of positive, Hindus believe that those people
will have deep hardships or problems because of that. Every Hindus main goal in
life is to escape from all negativity so it does not ever come back to them. They also
believe that only the soul matters and rebirths are possible after their souls are at
rest. Hindus often worship at home or do Temple worship. Worshippers in this
religion repeat the names of their favourite Gods and Goddesses, and repeat mantras.
Things such as water, fruit and flowers are offered to God. Secondly there is Judaism.
There are three types of Jews. Orthodox (Traditional), Conservative (Middle
Ground), Reform (Modern). Jews have a daily prayer that they recite in their home
for their monotheism (one God) and presence of God in their home. Places of
worship for Jews
Reasons Why The National Anthem Should Be Banned
This protest all started when one man said these words. I m not going to stand up
to show pride in a flag for a country that appressed black people and people of
color...To me ,this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to
look the other way.(Calin Kaepernick). This protest is caused uproar among the
people and the football players. Here are three simple reasons why it s wrong, and
should be stopped. One reason why is that by refusing to stand for the national
anthem shows disrespect for the flag and members of the armed forces. Also some
reasons the national anthem is so important is because it pays respectto the people
that risk their lives, and to the people that fight for what they think is right. The
second reason is not standing for the national anthem is an ineffective and
counterproductive way to promote a cause. All this does is cause people to get
mad this is not helping any cause what so ever just as just as Clemson university
said in a press conference saying I don t think it s good to be a distraction to your
team and also he doesn t think it s a good thing to use your team as a platform. The
third and final reason is refusing to stand for the national anthem angers many and
sows division in our country. This is just a waste of time and should be stopped.
The way this protest is changing the game of football is. By them protesting the way
they are the ratings have went downhill but the protest have not yet stopped or even
came close
Unshakable Truth In Steven D. Levitt s Freakonomics
The New York s times bestseller: Freakonomics a Rouge Economist Explores the
hidden side of Everything, By Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner is not an
ordinary book. It is an unconventional, provocative look at things by a young
economist and dissident. A freak is a person, who does not fit into the framework of
standard thinking, and has the audacity to challenge the fact that everything has been
canonized as an indisputable authoritative opinion. The book asserts that the new
economy requires a new unorthodox and innovative look at things, an exit beyond the
narrow framework of conventional judgments and a popular belief that only
yesterday seemed to be the unshakable truth.
At the beginning of Freakonomics, Levitt and Dubner explains how they ended up

and Sumo Wresters Have in Common? Cheating. In this Dubner and Levitt
explore the beauty of incentives as well as cheating, and how in order for a teacher
to cheat and risk getting caught there would have to be a high enough incentive.
Throughout this book we learn people respond to incentives. The authors use the
example of a daycare in Israel establishing a late fee fine in order to try and
motivate parents to pick up their children on time, this is an example of a typical
incentive in everyday life. However, this plan backfired since the late fee fine was
only an additional $3 dollars on their weekly bill instead of motivating the parents to

The Aging Population Analysis
The older population is categorized into three distinct classes: young old, old old,
and oldest old. As presented by Hooyman and Kiyak (2011) on page 18, in figure 1.5,
the young old is from the ages of 65 74, the old old is from the ages of 75 84, and
the oldest old are from the ages of 85 and older. The figure on page 18, shows us
how much more the older population will grow between 2008 and 2050, each group
is significantly growing, but the oldest old seems to be growing the fastest among the
three groups. According to Hooyman and Kiyak (2011) this is due primarily to the
development in medicine, public hygiene, and health care. While further investigating
the growth of the older population we will examine changing life expectancies

is rising more by each generation. This advancement is greatly affecting the field of
gerontology (Hooyman and Kiyak, 2011). A vastly growing practice area that is
much needed because by the middle of the 21st century, more than 40% of
Americans age 65 and older can expect to live to at least 90 (Gonyeathe, 2013).
This is a major advancement since 1900, when the average life expectancy in the
U.S. was around 47 years old, and from 47 to today s 78.1 years (Hooyman and
Kiyak, 2011). When Hooyman and Kiyak (2011) examined the life expectancies
from 1990 and 2005, they noticed a decline in the older population mostly because
of low birthrates experienced during the 1920s and 1930s; however, they expect a
rise in this age population because most of the baby boomers will be turning 60 in
the years following. During U.S. events like the 1930s Great Depression, and the
late 1940s and early 1960s baby boomers years, these historical events has shifted the
demographics of the older population. The advancement of old age is a huge milestone
today, and as this extremely diverse population continues to grow associated risk
factors are assumed to follow such as economic hardship, and disabling illnesses or
health conditions for the older
A Literary Convention Expended by Junot Diaz Essay
Analyzing a symbol as a literary convention used by author, Junot DГaz makes a way
to identify the purpose of the device. In his novel, The Brief Wondrous Life of
Oscar Wao (2007), the mechanism is used to develop an explicit character and
point of view. The symbol is a sensory image that holds rich implication that is
either a narrow or broad. Occasionally the reader is cast off by the author with an
unknown meaning of the symbol hence is forced to create his own interpretation.
The latter principle is intentionally carried out by the author as a literary hook to
draw the attention of his audience to keep reading. Moreover, the author may also use
in combination with the hook the method of utilizing pathos as a way of arousing the

I muse how the symbol of the faceless man is used in this scene in lieu of fear of
the unknown. They had guns! He stared into the night, hoping that maybe there
would be some U.S. Marines out for a stroll, but there was only a lone man sitting
in his rocking chair out in front of his ruined house and for a moment Oscar could
have sworn the dude has no face, but then the killers got back into the car and
drove (298). Flawlessly the narrative is filled with mysterious symbols of faceless
men that attach to the fuku aka zafa that is generally a curse or doom. Moreover,
the faceless men are used as a gesture, to give a signal to the reader, that something
dangerous is about to occur. Transparently Junot Diaz discusses via interviews why
he used the symbol of faceless men and its significance. In one interview Misty
Reno of The Tack Newspaper reported that students posed a question for Diaz as,
Who are the faceless men? Diaz replied by stating that, Do I have any idea
who...they are? No...[but] every time I took them out of the book the novel fell

After Jack tries to kill Wendy, she manages to knock him unconscious and lock him
in the hotel pantry. The sequence begins with the camera slowly zooming out at a
slightly higher angle on Jack who is sleeping in the pantry. This creates the feeling
that Jack is again being watched by some ominous force in the hotel. The camera
continues to follow Jack as he gets up upon hearing a knock at the pantry door.
Then the camera moves to a close up on Jack as a dialogue between Mr. Grady and
Jack occurs. The camera remains on Jack the whole conversation, Mr. Grady is
never seen in the shot. This creates the feeling that this conversation may be
happening in Jacks mind, as a result of his psychological condition. Jack has had
other encounters with Mr. Grady, but the pantry scene is the only one in which he
does not appear. For example, when Jack goes to the hotel bar, Mr. Grady is seen
pouring his drinks. Although his presence may also be a part of Jacks imagination,
Mr. Grady is still in this shot. The pantry sequence is the first give physical
evidence that there may be a supernatural force in the hotel. Up to this point it seems
that there is no way that Jack is having a supernatural experience. This completely is
turned upside down when click the door to the pantry is unlocked. If the
conversation with Mr. Grady is just a psychological one, then how is the door
unlocked?

its proximity to the Gulf of Mexico and previous history. Fire: Fire can result in
partial or total loss of data for an extended period. Recovery could be slow because
of the extensive damage fires can leave. The probability of fire within a data center
can be quite high, based on the high power consumption requirements of modern
computing equipment, heat generation and solvents present within the computing
environment. Paper supplies within close proximity to the data center provide a
ready source of fuel in the event of a fire ( Hurricane Winds at Landfall, 2013).
Smoke: Smoke particles on magnetic media can render it useless. The damage
from smoke occurs much faster than damage from the actual fire or water. A
relatively small amount of smoke can cause a huge degree of loss in terms of data.
It is imperative that smoke be contained to the smallest possible area ( Fire, 2013).
Floods: In the event of flooding, the sediments and contaminants carried by flood
waters can be damaging to paper records, computers and magnetic media. Most of
the paper records are stored on the upper floors; however a malfunction or
discharge of the sprinkler system on an upper floor could put this data at risk.
Leakage from the roof could also cause considerable amounts of water to reach such

The Catcher In The Rye Essay
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger is about a boy named Holden Caulfield and
his struggle with life. Like any other teenager, he is simply looking for his place in
the world. However, it is shown that Holden is no ordinary teenager for he displays
many signs of depression. His depression seems to escalate throughout the novel. For
example, many nights he has trouble sleeping, he also is quite the alcoholic and a
heavy smoker, he doesnt feed his body with the proper nutrients and he talks of
committing suicideat various points in the novel. Holden feels he has been alienated
his whole life and that after losing his brother Allie, there was really no place for

The last time Id eaten was those two hamburgers I had with Brossard and Ackley
when we went in to Agerstown to the movies. That was a long time ago. It seemed
like fifty years ago.(105) Although Holden is aware that he hasnt eaten in quite
some time, he just hasnt felt hungry. Holdens nutrition is just all over the place.
His depression has forced him to do crazy things. For example, after a night of
drinking Holden says, I puked before I went to bed, but I didnt really have to I
forced myself.(90) This shows that Holden is hurting his body in defiantly more
ways than one. Holden is also aware that he is somewhat depressed due to his lousy
feelings and inability to eat much of anything. Holden is on a walk when he says,
Id feel better if I had something to eat. So I went in this very cheap looking
restaurant and had doughnuts and coffee. Only, I didnt eat the doughnuts. I couldnt
swallow them too well. The thing is if you get very depressed about something, its
hard as hell to swallow.(196) This just goes to show that Holden is very depressed
and it effects the way he handles simple tasks such as eating. Even though he is
aware of his depression, Holden does not speak of seeing a psychiatrist for serious
issues such as his malnutrition even though he should really see one.
An obvious sign of Holdens depression is the fact that he talks of committing suicide
at various points of the novel. Every time Holden is feeling really lousy he would
The Trump s Political Rise During The Presidential...
The Trump Effect
Donald Trump s meteoric political rise during the Presidential Election of 2016 put
attention on the media and the way they covered the election and will forever change
both politics and media going forward. The media was shown to be a bias, ratting
chasing, and corrupt extension of the political parties. We will encompass the entire
campaign from the June 2015 announcement that he was running, covering the
primaries, then to the convention, along the path of the general campaign, and finally
in the post election coverage. We will look at the financials, the main stream medias
role, and changes that are necessary going forward.
Let us start with a recap. On Tuesday June 16, 2015 Donald J. Trump came down the
escalator at his Trump Towerproperty and announced the official launch of his
presidential campaign. Much like everything else he did in this campaign it was
mired in controversy as this was the venue of the infamous statement and I quote
when Mexico send their people they aren t sending their best their rapist, their
murders and drug dealers... Initial reaction to Trump s announcement was mixed.
Some thought it was a P.R stunt thinking he would quit after a few weeks, others
started calling foul on his bigoted and racist statements against Mexicans, and yet
some where excited having longed for a common sense business minded person to
run the country.

A Good Life Essay
Throughout this semester we have struggled to define the common good and what
constitutes a good life. While the definition of what is a good life can vary from
person to person, whether that mean academic achievement, financial success, or a
certain social status; for me, a good life is a life driven through goals and purpose.
A life in which you set goals and strive to reach them despite the physical, mental, or
emotional obstacles that can get in your way. In Viktor Frankl s What is a Good
Life? Frankl states that, Everything can be taken from a man but one thing... the last
of the human freedoms to choose one s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to
choose one s own way. This statement stands out to me because, I believe that... Show

Often times when it comes to service, you, yourself are leading a meaningful life in
order to give those you are helping a happy life, because without you they wouldn t
have either. This experience, as well as being surrounded by these individuals has
led me to develop a passion for the victims of domestic violence and has pushed me
to be as involved as I can to help reach the goal of eliminating this issue all together.
I think this relates to several of the things we have read in class, for example, in The
Humanitarian Leader in Each of Us where Inderjit Khurana focused on the children in
the train stations, not the 20,000 children in Bhubaneswar who are not in school
(LaFasto and Larson, 50). I know that I alone cannot eliminate domestic violence, but
I choose to focus on the women and children of my county. Not only has this
experience given meaning to my life, it has also brought me happiness in that I am
more thankful for the things that I have and the people that are in my life. Which
ultimately for me, defines a good life.
I also believe my service relates to the other part that I stated about how the good
life is one where you strive to achieve goals despite obstacles, and I think this
relates very well to Brian Stevenson and his work. Not only did he work in a
similar way to Inderjit Khurana and Mama Liz of The Humanitarian Leader in Each
of Us, where he strove to help those that he was capable of helping, therefore
focusing on the people, not the problem;
Change in Roman Fever by Edith Wharton Essay
Change in Roman Fever by Edith Wharton
Chance (or coincidence) has an ambiguous role in the outcome of different situations;
it can work in or against one s favour. As in real life, chance in literature has
considerable influence on the circumstances of the characters and where those
circumstances lead.
In two particular literary works, Roman Fever and A Small, Good Thing, chance
happenings have grave results on the lives of the characters concerned. In Roman
Fever, old friends meet by chance and reveal disturbing secrets about the past; while
in A Small, Good Thing a boy is injured on his birthday placing his parents in a

The two old friends had not seen each other in years, but met again in a hotel in Rome
where they were both vacationing with their respective daughters. Naturally, it seems,
the two daughters develop a friendship. Such occurrences would otherwise be
unfathomable if it was not for the precise meaning of chance; the unpredictable
element in happenings that cannot be assigned a cause
(Hougton Mifflin, 2000). Chance provides an understanding, not an explanation, and,
hence, an acceptance of such occurrences. The chance meeting of these two old
friends sets the stage for the revelation of secrets that were also influenced by the
unexpected.

The Effects Of Weather On The United States Tornadoes
The Roots of Frequent United States Tornadoes
Tornadoes happen all throughout the United States, as well as other parts of the
world. Tornadoes are created when colder air meets with the warmer air, creating an
unstable weather environment. The United States, according to Friedman (2013),
leads the world in sheer volume of tornadoes. The geographic features of the United
States affect the frequent appearance of tornadoes across the nation. Tornadoes often
appear in the United States, which may come in various extents. Depending on the
instability of air inducing the tornado, they may appear in devastating sizes, or less
overwhelming breadth, with passive winds. Even though tornadoes can form on
any land mass, given the right conditions, the United States is more frequently hit
with tornadoes than any other country, but what effects lead to the frequent
appearance of meager or extensive tornadoes across the nation? Of course we all
know a tornado is hazardous situation to be placed in, and they come during bad
storms. stormaware.mo.gov, defines a tornado as a Rotating, funnel shaped cloud
that extends from a thunderstorm to the ground with whirling winds that can reach
300 miles per hour (2 para. 1). Tornadoes come in a wide variety of sizes and
strengths, each of which are variables to the total amount of damage assessed. The
total damage brought by a single tornado is how tornadoes are classified. The
original scale of tornado classification was the Fujita
Analysis Of An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge

Then, in the third part of the story we jump back to the original setting of the story.
Farquhar is falling to the end of his rope and lucky for him, it breaks and he goes

During the flashback, we learn that Peyton Farquhar gave a Federal scout his idea to
burn down Owl Creek Bridge. The flashback used here explains the circumstances of
the present dilemma. In An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge , there isn t a
complication where the early stages of conflict arise. Instead we are introduced to
a conflict with a very high tension. That is known as the crisis. The crisis is the
point in the story where The sergeant stepped aside. (pg. 84) from the plank that is
beneath Farquhar, and Farquhar plummets down towards the river until he reaches
the end of his rope. There, he hangs for a moment that is stretched out by his
thoughts. Then the rope breaks which is the a second part of the crisis. The climax
in this story is from the point of the rope breaking to almost the very end where
Bierce reveals the true ending of the story. That scene is the climax because it is
the highest point of tension in the whole story. It puts the reader on the edge of
their seat. The resolution, although not what the reader may want, is very
effective. The conflict is finally resolved with the final line of the story. Peyton
Farquhar was dead; his body, with a broken neck, swung gently from side to side
beneath the timbers of the Owl Creek bridge. (pg. 88) Overall, Bierce s choice of
actual structure paved a way for an entirely new style of writing stories, movies, etc.

The Characteristics Of Andrew Carnegie
Andrew Carnegie became one of the wealthiest men in the entire world, primarily
due to his steel company. He lived from 1835 to 1919, and his industry grew in the
time of the Gilded Age, a period marked by industrial and economic growth. Carnegie
had many different attributes, making it difficult for historians to characterize him.
Some argue that he was a robber baron (someone who uses immoral techniques to
gain wealth), a philanthropist (someone who donates money for the good of others),
or a captain of industry (someone who becomes very rich through business). While
aspects of the robber baron and philanthropist characterizations are true, Carnegie was
a successful businessman first and foremost. Carnegie was an intelligent and
consequentialist... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He made his successful workers into his partners, as [n]othing delighted Carnegie
more than to see the man whom he had lifted from a puddler s furnace develop into
a millionaire. This motivation likely stemmed from his own poor upbringing and
success in life. In his essay titled Gospel of Wealth, Carnegie encouraged wealthy
people to give money to the public and suggested seven fields in which to invest
the money. In another essay, called The Advantages of Poverty, he provided insight
into one of his motivations for philanthropy, by claiming wealthy philanthropists
can find refuge from self questioning in the thought of the much greater portion of
their means which is being spent on others. Carnegie also believed that when his
mind was solely preoccupied with making the largest possible amount of money as
quickly as possible, he was degrad[ing himself] beyond hope of permanent
recovery. Carnegie was particularly interested in giving libraries to various towns,
but this quickly became a business like gift. First, there was an application process
the town had to go through. Then, only gifting the building of the library, Carnegie
would demand that the town collect taxes to pay for the books and maintain the
library (which usually cost every year about 10% of the amount of money
Carnegie donated). However, Carnegie s library giving had a pattern. After he
broke up the union in Braddock, he gifted that town a library. In a response to a
letter from Homestead asking for a gift, he replied if Homestead would only do
something for him, he would be pleased to build a library there. Towns were so
afraid that libraries signified their destruction that 225 towns refused Carnegie s
offer of a library, as his offer was more threat than promise. Indeed, they could expect

Reflective Essay About Peter Pan
I love this. I can t bring myself to say anything else about it. It doesn t really help that
one of my biggest obsessions since childhood is Peter Pan and let me tell you, boy
does this bring Peter Pan to the next level. I was skeptical at first, being such a big
fan of the original story I couldn t help but fear how this book would play out. I was
pleasantly surprised and then blown away by the whole thing, this is one book I
will read over and over again.
Let me start off with pointing out the certain parallels between this story and Peter Pan
, at least the ones I could catch that I could avoid spoilers with. This story starts off
with the main character, Olivia (also called Livy), reading the story Peter Pan to the

Only Peter and Hook make real world appearances though, and that confused me. I

learns that Meyer can actually fly. I was just surprised by the fact that this story
took Peter Pan at face value fantasy elements and all. It did also give it s own spin.
Neverland is the place children go when they die before choosing to move on, or
grow up as it were. Meyer/Peter is their guardian, he rules Neverland and protects
the children there. Hook, who in this story is named James Hale, is death. He is
the one that comes for the children in the real world and also forces Meyer to
follow the rules. There is still the famous rift between the two, but sadly Hale has

Thanks to men like Christopher Columbus the world became an explorer s oyster.
The findings of new created much curiosity in Europe to explore and conquer new
lands in order to expand their empire. In the early 1600 s a surge of motivation to
explore and settle new colonies came over England. The Result of this was the New
England and Chesapeake colonies, who were both settled by immigrants from
England. Many people decided they needed to escape England due to religious
persecution and poverty. Hundreds of families, men, women, and their children,

This further emphasizes their intentions by showing their main priorities; minters
to create a religion based society as well as followers, in this case his family. On
the other hand other people s motivation to come to the New World was
commercial and profit. This is the case with the founding fathers of the
Chesapeake colonies. The Chesapeake region of the colonies included Virginia,
Maryland, the New Jerseys and Pennsylvania. In 1607, the first English colony in
the New World, Jamestown, was founded by a group of 104 settlers along the
James River. These settlers were hungry for gold and silver. This is emphasized in
the Ship s list of Emigrants (doc 3) where they state that the men listed should be
transported to Virginia embarked in the Merchant s Hope. Though the settlers of the
Chesapeake Colonies desired religious freedom it was not their main focus when
coming to the New World, they wanted to be merchants; in other words they wanted
money! Captain John Smith further highlights the intentions of the Chesapeake
settlers in History of Virginia (doc 5) which was written for the pure purpose of
informing future people of the origins of Virginia. Smith refers to the men as gold
seekers who made all men their slaves in their hope that they would become wealthy
and discover incredible riches from this new land. Because of the contrasting reasons
for settlement these two colonies became extremely different.
KyЕ«kei To Heiwa Research Paper
KyЕ«kei to Heiwa is a land that practices the art of peace, but see it as a fight to
gain. Wolves rule the land Tamotsu created for them after the wolverines took out
most of the populations in Snowy Valley. Their relations were mostly strained despite
Tamotsu creating a new dimension for them to live in peace within. Although they

The Spatial Distribution Of Temperature Essay
The spatial distribution of temperature, pH , salinity , Dissolved Oxygen (D.O) ,
Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), micronutrients (phosphate , nitrate and

surface water temperature were homogenous within the studied area ,varying
within the range 25 32В° C . Generally, the temperature is influenced by the
freshwater influx intensity of solar radiation, and cooling and mix up with ebb ,
evaporation and flow from adjoining neritic waters (Prabu et al. 2008). The
estuarine water was slightly alkaline in nature throughout the study period in all
the respective stations with pH value ranging from 7.7 to 8.33. The pH value was
within the safe limit for drinking purpose (WHO, 1973) as well as for crop

Bay of Bengal and fairly high buffering capacity of the water (Huang et.al;2008).
The neutral sub alkaline environment at this pH substantially limits the mobility of
trace metals in marine water (Manta et al., 2002). The maximum salinity (14.5
p.s.u) at Sagar (S8) and the minimum (0.17 p.s.u.) at Babughat (S3) were recorded
which is attributed to higher rate of evaporation than that of precipitation and the
neritic water dominance (Rajasekar; 2003). The turbidity showed a wide range of
variation (1 13 NTU) being lowest at Tribeni (S1) which is the fresh water zone and
highest at Lot 8 (S7), near the coastal water. The high

people would create artistic posters and such to help raise awareness to issues like

The materials used in the documentary is somewhat different to traditional art

All individuals must face oppression, stereotypes, and limitations. An example of
this in the reading was Jason Kingsley. Jason was born with down syndrome and
has struggled his whole life with society telling him what he is unable to do. When
he was born the doctors told his family that he couldn t learn, form relationships, or

has a job, writes, makes friends, takes public transportation, and has traveled to

disabled individuals or know how to act around them. I believe that all disabled
people struggle with this kind of discrimination however the obstacles or
disabilities people face vary. Disabilities can be caused by genetics, chemical
imbalances, traumas, or accidents. They can challenge learning, senses, mental

Sam Houston Accomplishments
There are certain things that people are remembered for throughout one s life. And
there is that moment that helps define one s character or that moment can
overshadows one s accomplishments. Sam Houston s refusal to accept the articles of
secession served as an example of what he thought was his personal responsibility not
only to himself but that of Texas. With that one moment in history, people quickly
forgot and ignored what Sam Houston had done for Texas and the United States. From
his upbringing, to his young adult life in Tennessee, and what truly brought him into
Texas either for recognition, for wealth, or a brand new beginning, his entire life was
a personal choice that shaped him into the figure that we see him as today, as someone

While with John Jolly in Illinois, Houston became very ill for about two months
with malaria. After his recovery, Houston decides to become a citizen of the
Cherokee nation and marries a Cherokee woman, Tiana Rogers. During his political
hiatus from practicing law in Tennessee, he still was actively practicing law by
representing the Indians and writing for them in newspapers. After two years away
from the public eye, Houston returns to Tennessee to be by his mother s side as she
passes away in 1831. In 1832, in Washington D.C., Houston confronts Congressman
Stanbery of Ohio who wrote that Houston had committed fraud. When these two men

Understanding Schizophrenia from the Mind of a Mental Health Victim Themselves
With basic information on what this mental illness is, to understand Schizophrenia
further, research into personal encounters became apparent. After looking into the
mind of Ian Chovil who was a victim of the mental health disease and finding his
accounts very eccentric it is clear that this is something that could quite possibly
affect the brains of the people that commit serious crimes in regards to the Media.
Ian says in his story a few things which connect this type of mental health to violent
obscure behaviour. He says he had delusions right from the start which after
reading his story states, progressed from visions of famous persons trying to force
him to commit suicide right to the later stages of his schizophrenia where he says
he got a lot of messages from favourite Rock and Rolla songs, movies, cartoons and
library books. Ian doesn t say these forms of media forced him to murder innocent
people but it does provide evidence that he received messages. These messages in the
mind of another schizophrenic could lead to serious acts of violence which leads
onto the next part of his story where he mentions how his delusions changed as aliens
instructed him on the real nature of reality then three things happened as contact with
reality became very tenuous, he got into trouble with the law, became an alcoholic
and lost his job. He is now taking instructions from a part of his mind he perceives
Cornelia De Lange Syndrome
Cornelia de Lange Syndrome typically presents with a constellation of distinctive
features affecting several different parts of the body. There is a wide degree of
variation between individuals with the disorder in the presentation and severity of
symptoms; however, the features described below represent a typical presentation.
Slow growth during both fetal and post natal development is a characteristic feature
of the disorder. Approximately 90% or more of patients display delayed skeletal
maturation, and about 50% were noted to have intrauterine growth retardation (2).
Because of this, individuals with Cornelia de Lange syndrome tend to be short in
stature, with height and weight falling below the fifth percentile throughout life (3)....

Other limb issues such as small hands (micromelia) and incurved fifth finger
(clinodactyly) are prevalent (3,1). In addition to the above core features, the
syndrome tends to have effects on several major systems of the body. For example,
sensorineural hearing loss impacts 80% of children with CdLS; approximately
40% are severely affected (3). Opthalmological issues, such as myopia (near
sightedness) and nystagmus are also common. Patients may also have inflammation
of the eyelid of droopy eyelids (ptosis) (1). Neurological issues can include sleep
problems and seizures. Approximately 25% of diagnosed individuals experience
seizures (3), which can usually be well controlled with standard medical intervention
(4). Neuroimaging has shown characteristic features such as enlarged ventricles at
the basal cisterns, undergrowth of the brainstem and cerebral vermis, and atrophied
white matter especially in the frotal lobes. High pain tolerance caused by problems
with peripheral neuropathy have also been reported (4). Cornelia de Lange Syndrome
can also include cardiovascular concerns. Congenital heart disease occurs in
approximately 25% of individuals with the disorder. The most common

The Affordable Care Act Of 2010
Abstract Signed into law in 1997, Children s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
provides health coverage to approximately eight million children. This law
encompasses families whose incomes are too high to qualify for Medicaid, but
cannot afford the expense of private health insurance. CHIP is like Medicaid, it s
managed by the states, but different because it s jointly funded by the federal
government and by the states. The Affordable Care Act of 2010 retains the CHIP
eligibility standards and extended CHIP funding until October 1, 2015. The
Affordable Care Act also provides an additional $40 million in federal funding to
continue efforts to encourage enrollment in Medicaid and CHIP. Working to keep
children healthy is something that all governmental opponents can agree on.
Medicaid and CHIP together provides health care coverage for low income
families. Both of these programs are jointly financed by the states and the federal
government, but are largely administered by the states within extensive federal rules.
Funding for this program is set to expire at the end of September of 2015. Although
these programs differ in many ways, including financing, benefits and cost sharing, it
s very beneficial to many children whose parents make too much money to qualify
for Medicaid, but not enough for private health insurance. CHIP is also known as the
State Children s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and was created by the 1997
Balanced Budget Act, enacted

  • 1. Nhs Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of "NHS" presents a unique set of challenges. Firstly, it requires a deep understanding of the National Honor Society and its core values. This involves researching the history, mission, and criteria for membership. Delving into the organization's principles is crucial to ensure that the essay reflects a profound comprehension of what it means to be a part of the NHS. Moreover, addressing personal experiences and achievements becomes a delicate balance. The essay should not read as a mere list of accomplishments but should instead weave a narrative that demonstrates the applicant's alignment with the NHS values. This involves introspection and the ability to connect individual experiences with the broader ideals of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Another layer of complexity lies in presenting oneself humbly yet convincingly. The essay must not come across as self-aggrandizing, but it should effectively communicate why the applicant is a suitable candidate for NHS membership. This calls for a careful selection of anecdotes and accomplishments that highlight qualities without sounding boastful. Furthermore, maintaining a coherent and engaging flow throughout the essay is essential. The challenge is to seamlessly integrate personal experiences, reflections, and aspirations, creating a compelling narrative that captures the attention of the reader. Additionally, adhering to any specific guidelines or word limits set by the application process adds an extra layer of difficulty. Striking a balance between providing sufficient information and staying within the given constraints demands meticulous editing and revising. In conclusion, composing an essay on the topic of "NHS" is a challenging task that requires a combination of research, self-reflection, humility, and effective storytelling. It is not merely about showcasing achievements but about demonstrating a genuine commitment to the values upheld by the National Honor Society. For those seeking assistance, it's worth exploring resources like HelpWriting.net, where similar essays and more can be ordered to navigate the intricacies of this challenging writing endeavor. • 2. Examples Of Aestheticism In The Picture Of Dorian Gray Oscar Wilde was one of the most famous writers in the history of England. He lived in the 19th century and was one of the major contributors to the Aesthetic movement. He was a spokesperson for aestheticism. He tried his hand at various literary activities. He was an Irish playwright, novelist, essayist and poet. He refined his ideas about the importance of art in a series of dialogues and essays, and incorporated themes of duplicity, beauty and decadence. He incorporated all these vital characteristics that define the supremacy of art into his only novel The Picture of Dorian graywritten in 1890. This novel bore the true essence of what an aesthetic literature brought to the table. The strong themes of beauty, narcissism, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The portrayal of women, as nothing more than props; as household decorations and people of leisure and entertainment without any intellect or wit calls to question of how Wilde s views of women are. It has been conjectured that the reason for this apathy for women characterization is due to his sexual orientation. He being a homosexual brings about the idea that he doesn t want a female character with a decent role or to ever be in the position to ever sexualize a female character. The Character Henry Wotton is a very powerful and dominant character. He is an intelligent man and never lets up a moment to propagate his hedonistic and misogynistic viewpoints. It is believed that Lord Henry is the mouthpiece that Wilde uses to voice his own views and opinions. So, we can, to some extent, associate Lord Henry to Wilde and question his viewpoints on people and society. One of his quotes extracted from the novel illustrates how he talks about women My dear boy, no woman is a genius. Women are a decorative sex. They never have anything to say, but they say it charmingly. Women represent the triumph of matter over mind, just as men represent the triumph of mind over morals (4.9) This quote was taken from one of the many sage advices that Lord Henry imparts to Dorian. Dorian was a kid who was brought up humble, gentle and was taught not

  • 4. The Contributions Of Louis XIV And The Power Of France Louis XIV turned France around from an unorganized feuding country to one of the most organized, powerful, innovative monarchies in Europe. In addition, he managed to advance civil equality among the people by turning all the people into his loyal subjects (Norton, p.175). How did he do all this? The armed forces that had formerly been a private enterprise who had been fighting against each other or had hired themselves out for payment, was taken over and consolidated into one entity fighting, by the king for the king. He made war an activity of the state which produced peace and order in France while strengthening the fighting power of France against other states (Norton, p.175). In addition, he put soldiers in uniform, taught them how to march in step and housed them in barracks which assisted them in becoming more susceptible to discipline and control (Norton, p.175). There was now a hierarchy in place and was able to get a greater degree of government control that put him on the top as the commander in chief of the army due to his power and the creation of the first large civilian administration (Norton, p.176). This was the first time that ministers of war consisted of civilians and this grew the armies power exponentially. Louis XIV also overhauled the grandeur of France when he took an old village Versailles and turned it into the palace of Versaillesthat became known as one of the most splendid marvels in Europe so much so, that it became the envy of lessor kings.

This also provided context for how far they are travelling since we know that they are going to Mexico City to join the forces of Pancho Villa. He obviously accomplished his mission of dying when Arroyo shot and killed him, but I also think that his relationship with Harriet helped him to repent and find himself because he had a chance to be a father to her like he never was to his own children. On the day that the old gringo was shot, he seemed to know that it was going to be his last day. According to Harriet, the old gringo was clean, shaven, [and] perfumed, as if in preparation for some great ceremony (144), which was unusual for him. I think he was preparing for his death because he always said that he wanted to be a good looking corpse
  • 8. Regarding Henry Research Paper Many people see the Id as selfish and impulsive and the Superego good because it helps you make good decisions. In the following text I will explain the difference between the Superego and the Id and I will compare moments from the movie Regarding Henry to this statement and see if the thought that the Id is bad and the superego is good is true or if it is more complex. Also I will say if you could live with only one of them or if you need both. The movie Regarding Henry is a good example to compare Id and Superego. The movie is about Henry who is a famous lawyer. One day he gets shot in the head and forgets everything about his life. After a long time in the hospital he comes back to his old life. But he is not able to continue living like before because he changed and is a complete new person. In the beginning of the movie Henry uses his Id to make decisions when he is working. You can see that when he helps the hospital even when he knows that they are lying. But he is thinking about earning money for himself and completely ignoring the fact that what he is doing is not right. ThatВґs one of the moments where you can see the... Because of this he sees that what he is doing is not right. In the movie he looks at his old cases again and asks his coworkers why he lied. They tell him that this is no problem and it is right to do it but he still doesnВґt think that it is okay. So he gives the woman whose man lost his case because of Henry a folder with arguments that can help her winning the case. This shows the moral side of the Superego. But the movie shows also a bad side of the Superego. The Superego can sometimes be too much to handle like when Henry heard his old friends talking bad about him and he wouldnВґt leave his bed at the next day and stopped going to

A social system is a physical, social or cultural environment to which people belong and within which they function. (Schiffman et al. 2008 p 504) The surf culture is therefore a social system, as depicted by their annexed culture. Reference groups are groups that serve as frames of reference for individuals in their purchase or consumption decisions (Schiffman et al. 2008). The company s target market rely very heavily on their primary groups; mainly friendship and virtual groups as was demonstrated in the case study via blogs and the mob mentality of the vibe. However, the site is constantly being threatened by nearby urban constructions and development (Stoney Creek Environment Committee, n.d.). Thus, organizations were created to protect, maintain and monitor this important salmon rearing stream(Stoney Creek Environment Committee, n.d.). A few methods that the organizations utilize to analyse Stoney Creek, is to survey its habitat conditions and test the water quality and quantity (Taccogna et al., 1995). This will require the assessment of vegetation availability, flow velocity, volume, discharge, water chemistry and conditions (Taccogna et al., 1995). Compiling and documenting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These characteristics involve streambed material, embeddedness, pool habtat percentage, off channel habitat, bank stability, bank vegetation percentage, overhead canopy and riparian zone. Certain points to note is that there is an abundant variety and amount of vegetation (such as conifers and shrubs) surrounding the creek which provides shade, protection and their roots provide bank stability (Taccogna et al., 1995). Another point to consider is that undisturbed streams will have little to no embeddedness (Taccogna et al., 1995). Unfortunately, our results from the 25 streambed samples suggests 41% embeddedness of gravel and rock, meaning there was some stream disturbance. Coniferous trees are also present which may increase the streams acidity (Taccogna et al., 1995). Again, plentiful vegetation also increases bank stability and decrease risks of erosion which could disturb many sensitive aquatic creatures (Taccogna et al., 1995). For that reason, destruction on its environmental surroundings should be avoided at all costs. Overall, with a score of 90, the habitat quality of Stoney Creek is in the acceptable

However, although mechanically exfoliated graphene exhibits low amounts of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This phenomenon is a result of the separation of carbon from the metal carbide, which occurs at a high rate upon cooling, in Ni grains and occurs heterogeneously at the various grain boundaries. Thus, carbon can precipitate out of the grain boundaries, resulting in greater thickness of graphene at the edges of a layer. However, extremely high quality uniform monolayers of graphene have been deposited using polycrystalline copper foils, on diameters of up to 76 cm2,10. Raman analysis shows that copper foils treated at atmospheric pressure, show up to 95% monolayer coverage, with 5% bi layer or tri layer graphene10. These values are not related to the growth time or the rate of heating and cooling. In addition, copper foils are relatively cost efficient and are etched simply with solvents that are readily available. Chemically etching the transition metal is the best method to transfer graphene deposited on the substrate, resulting in free floating graphene membranes. Copper is used as it has the lowest affinity and solubility of carbon, as it does not form a carbide phase, relative to Ni and Co . This is attributed to copper s filled 3d electron shell, possessing an electron configuration of [Ar] 3d104s1, which due to its symmetrical electronic configuration reduces reciprocal electronic repulsions. In addition, copper is able to transfer charge from the ПЂ electrons of the sp2 carbons to the empty 4s orbital of
  • 13. The Breakdown of Ithaka In the lands of Pylos and Sparta, the kingdoms are prospering and in the favor of the gods. However, in Ithaka, the kingdom is falling to pieces. Why are the kingdoms so different in their success? Homer puts these three kingdoms side by side in The Odyssey, making it easy to find similarities and differences between the three. Pylos and Sparta, ruled by Nestor and Menelaos, could not be more successful. Ithaka, currently has no king in its throne and chaos is resulting from the battle for the coveted seat. Compared to the kingdoms of Nestor and Menelaos, Ithaka is breaking down from the loss of order and their leader, Odysseus. Sparta and Pylos are successful, thriving kingdoms, so what makes Ithaka break down? Menelaos has a mansion that is the way the court of Zeus must be (4.72). He has no end of riches, and Sparta is prospering right along with him. Menelaos rules with compassion and this makes him a great ruler. In Pylos, Nestor sacrifices an impressive heifer for Athena; his goldsmith gloved each horn in a pure foil beaten out of the gold that Nestor gave him (3.437 438). This costly sacrifice is no expense, because Pylos is a wealthy country. Also, what is added to the success of Pylos, is the great rule of Nestor. He is a wise and generous soul, who strides to keep his kingdom under the favor of the gods. Athena truly favors Nestor in which she wishes honor to Nestor and his sons (3.58). There is no mortal half so wise (1.64) as Odysseus, the ruler of

  • 15. Religions Around The World Today There are many different religions around the world today. We all have our own opinions on whether or not we believe in God or not, but what makes every religion different from the other could be because of traditions or rituals, the way we dress based on our religion or the place we worship. However the one thing we all have in common is we turn to religionto guide us in one way or another for greater depth or to set us down the right path in life. Firstly there is Hinduism. Hindus believe that their position in today s society was determined by the things they did or participated in, in their previous lives. For example, if a person s behaviour in the past was very negative instead of positive, Hindus believe that those people will have deep hardships or problems because of that. Every Hindus main goal in life is to escape from all negativity so it does not ever come back to them. They also believe that only the soul matters and rebirths are possible after their souls are at rest. Hindus often worship at home or do Temple worship. Worshippers in this religion repeat the names of their favourite Gods and Goddesses, and repeat mantras. Things such as water, fruit and flowers are offered to God. Secondly there is Judaism. There are three types of Jews. Orthodox (Traditional), Conservative (Middle Ground), Reform (Modern). Jews have a daily prayer that they recite in their home for their monotheism (one God) and presence of God in their home. Places of worship for Jews
  • 16. Reasons Why The National Anthem Should Be Banned This protest all started when one man said these words. I m not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that appressed black people and people of color...To me ,this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way.(Calin Kaepernick). This protest is caused uproar among the people and the football players. Here are three simple reasons why it s wrong, and should be stopped. One reason why is that by refusing to stand for the national anthem shows disrespect for the flag and members of the armed forces. Also some reasons the national anthem is so important is because it pays respectto the people that risk their lives, and to the people that fight for what they think is right. The second reason is not standing for the national anthem is an ineffective and counterproductive way to promote a cause. All this does is cause people to get mad this is not helping any cause what so ever just as just as Clemson university said in a press conference saying I don t think it s good to be a distraction to your team and also he doesn t think it s a good thing to use your team as a platform. The third and final reason is refusing to stand for the national anthem angers many and sows division in our country. This is just a waste of time and should be stopped. The way this protest is changing the game of football is. By them protesting the way they are the ratings have went downhill but the protest have not yet stopped or even came close

The book asserts that the new economy requires a new unorthodox and innovative look at things, an exit beyond the narrow framework of conventional judgments and a popular belief that only yesterday seemed to be the unshakable truth. Throughout this book we learn people respond to incentives. The authors use the example of a daycare in Israel establishing a late fee fine in order to try and motivate parents to pick up their children on time, this is an example of a typical incentive in everyday life. However, this plan backfired since the late fee fine was only an additional $3 dollars on their weekly bill instead of motivating the parents to feel bad about picking up their child late and paying the additional fee parents thought if being

A vastly growing practice area that is much needed because by the middle of the 21st century, more than 40% of Americans age 65 and older can expect to live to at least 90 (Gonyeathe, 2013). This is a major advancement since 1900, when the average life expectancy in the U.S. was around 47 years old, and from 47 to today s 78.1 years (Hooyman and Kiyak, 2011). When Hooyman and Kiyak (2011) examined the life expectancies from 1990 and 2005, they noticed a decline in the older population mostly because of low birthrates experienced during the 1920s and 1930s; however, they expect a rise in this age population because most of the baby boomers will be turning 60 in the years following. During U.S. events like the 1930s Great Depression, and the late 1940s and early 1960s baby boomers years, these historical events has shifted the demographics of the older population. The advancement of old age is a huge milestone today, and as this extremely diverse population continues to grow associated risk factors are assumed to follow such as economic hardship, and disabling illnesses or health conditions for the older

In his novel, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao (2007), the mechanism is used to develop an explicit character and point of view. The symbol is a sensory image that holds rich implication that is either a narrow or broad. Occasionally the reader is cast off by the author with an unknown meaning of the symbol hence is forced to create his own interpretation. The resolution, although not what the reader may want, is very effective. The conflict is finally resolved with the final line of the story. Peyton Farquhar was dead; his body, with a broken neck, swung gently from side to side beneath the timbers of the Owl Creek bridge. Carnegie had many different attributes, making it difficult for historians to characterize him. Some argue that he was a robber baron (someone who uses immoral techniques to gain wealth), a philanthropist (someone who donates money for the good of others), or a captain of industry (someone who becomes very rich through business). In his essay titled Gospel of Wealth, Carnegie encouraged wealthy people to give money to the public and suggested seven fields in which to invest the money. In another essay, called The Advantages of Poverty, he provided insight into one of his motivations for philanthropy, by claiming wealthy philanthropists can find refuge from self questioning in the thought of the much greater portion of their means which is being spent on others. Carnegie also believed that when his mind was solely preoccupied with making the largest possible amount of money as quickly as possible, he was degrad[ing himself] beyond hope of permanent recovery. Carnegie was particularly interested in giving libraries to various towns, but this quickly became a business like gift. First, there was an application process the town had to go through. Then, only gifting the building of the library, Carnegie would demand that the town collect taxes to pay for the books and maintain the library (which usually cost every year about 10% of the amount of money Carnegie donated). However, Carnegie s library giving had a pattern. After he broke up the union in Braddock, he gifted that town a library. In a response to a letter from Homestead asking for a gift, he replied if Homestead would only do something for him, he would be pleased to build a library there. Towns were so afraid that libraries signified their destruction that 225 towns refused Carnegie s offer of a library, as his offer was more threat than promise. Indeed, they could expect to pay a heavy

The Chesapeake region of the colonies included Virginia, Maryland, the New Jerseys and Pennsylvania. In 1607, the first English colony in the New World, Jamestown, was founded by a group of 104 settlers along the James River. These settlers were hungry for gold and silver. This is emphasized in the Ship s list of Emigrants (doc 3) where they state that the men listed should be transported to Virginia embarked in the Merchant s Hope. Though the settlers of the Chesapeake Colonies desired religious freedom it was not their main focus when coming to the New World, they wanted to be merchants; in other words they wanted money! Captain John Smith further highlights the intentions of the Chesapeake settlers in History of Virginia (doc 5) which was written for the pure purpose of informing future people of the origins of Virginia. Smith refers to the men as gold seekers who made all men their slaves in their hope that they would become wealthy and discover incredible riches from this new land. The primary principles of Universal Design are equitable use, flexibility, simplicity, perceptible information, forgiveness of mistakes, decreased physical effort, and space. Some examples of this practice are ramps, Braille signs, lower desks and tables, and wider hallways. This can be applied in an educational context by making classrooms and learning spaces accessible to all students. Students with disabilities would be able to focus on their education rather than how they are going to get to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All individuals must face oppression, stereotypes, and limitations. An example of this in the reading was Jason Kingsley. Jason was born with down syndrome and has struggled his whole life with society telling him what he is unable to do. When he was born the doctors told his family that he couldn t learn, form relationships, or carry out a normal life, however in response Jason has proved all this incorrect. He has a job, writes, makes friends, takes public transportation, and has traveled to other countries. This wasn t always easy since many employers don t always hire disabled individuals or know how to act around them. I believe that all disabled people struggle with this kind of discrimination however the obstacles or disabilities people face vary. Disabilities can be caused by genetics, chemical imbalances, traumas, or accidents. They can challenge learning, senses, mental health, or physical abilities. Another example in the reading was the story of Edward Murphy. Edward developed PTSD after a bomb exploded when he was deployed in Iraq and struggles with severe anxiety due to this. Unlike Jason, Murphy wasn t born with a disability but developed it during life. Murphy also has more opportunities to (in a way) reverse his disability or at least reduce the affect that it has in his

Nursing Personal Statement Sample While other highly ranked medical schools may offer a prestigious education with adequate resources, I am attracted to Mayo and its philosophy of improving the practice of medicine. The three shields of patient care, research, and education deeply resonate with my understanding of healthcare and how I wish to utilize it in my practice. I appreciate Mayo s strong focus on improving patient care, as symbolized by the larger centered shield, all while identifying the crucial roles of education and research in backing that quality of care. At the NIH, I study an RNA binding protein, LARP4, and how it affects mRNA translation and stability. This research has broad implications for understanding cancer, specifically tumor progression. With physicians providing physiological medical attention, and me maintaining the patient s mental/emotional health, each patient went through a holistic healing process. I believe this experience has prepared me to develop excellent patient care skills. Furthermore, I m currently enrolled in an English class examining the intersections of literature and medicine. Not only have I come to understand the complex relationship between diagnoses and patient stories, but I ve also been intently introduced to an abundance of narratives different from the common desire to heal people. Learning about varying perspectives has given me a comprehensive understanding of clinical medicine and how to improve people s lives with this knowledge. I am enthusiastic about Mayo s mission to not only educate their students with medical knowledge, but also their emphasis on how to best deliver that medical knowledge, depending on your patient population and healthcare system. By combining my existing experiences with the Science of Health Care Delivery program, I will be aptly prepared to provide personalized, holistic care by navigating and utilizing the current healthcare system to its best

  • 44. The Affordable Care Act Of 2010 Abstract Signed into law in 1997, Children s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides health coverage to approximately eight million children. This law encompasses families whose incomes are too high to qualify for Medicaid, but cannot afford the expense of private health insurance. CHIP is like Medicaid, it s managed by the states, but different because it s jointly funded by the federal government and by the states. The Affordable Care Act of 2010 retains the CHIP eligibility standards and extended CHIP funding until October 1, 2015. The Affordable Care Act also provides an additional $40 million in federal funding to continue efforts to encourage enrollment in Medicaid and CHIP. Working to keep children healthy is something that all governmental opponents can agree on. Medicaid and CHIP together provides health care coverage for low income families. Both of these programs are jointly financed by the states and the federal government, but are largely administered by the states within extensive federal rules. Funding for this program is set to expire at the end of September of 2015. Although these programs differ in many ways, including financing, benefits and cost sharing, it s very beneficial to many children whose parents make too much money to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough for private health insurance. CHIP is also known as the State Children s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and was created by the 1997 Balanced Budget Act, enacted
