On February 25, 2016, I was able to see the Mid Year Band Concert in the PAC.
The pieces I have chosen to review were performed by the Varsity, Symphonic II

Cotton, Amparito Roca, and Valdres were among my favorites in the program and
are all coincidentally, marches. To start with, the Varsity Band performed a royal
march called King Cotton by Karl King. It reminded me of a Sousa type piece due to

this, a trumpet played a short fanfare that was very well played with use of quieter,
legato dynamics to resemble the rest of the brass but still be more prominent with

descending scale. Together the brass reminded me of the fullness and darkness of a

nature writers are looking at nature either as a positive or negative experience. Most
of these shorts journals are looking at nature for not only for what it is, but what it
offers, for example in the short The Marginal World written by Rachel Carsonshe
portrays The Shore is an ancient world, for as long as there has been an earth and
sea there has been this place of the meeting of land and water. Yet it is a world that
keeps alive the sense of continuing creation and of the relentless drive for life. Each
time that I enter it, I gain some new awareness of its beauty and its deeper

This summer has been an eye opener. Throughout this course, I have learned to look
at films through a new perspective. My new perspective will forever change how I
look at films. Before this class, I watched movies for their content as well as for
entertainment and enjoyment. This summer, I have learned that you must analyze
films to fully appreciate the work. I will no longer watch films for enjoyment, but I
will watch them for all that they are worth. When watching films, my perspective has
changed, causing me to analyze the camera work elements, and how the filmties into
American life and culture.
Before this class, I never knew that there was so much work and detail put into
producing films. The camera work was put into these films for a specific reason, and
when I realized this my thought process changed. I realized that in many cases the
camera work is what made the movie, not the plot. Once, I had this understanding, I
started to break down the camera work into the many different elements that
composed it. By doing so, I could fully appreciate and understand the purpose of each
element. The camera shot that is visible on screen was thoughtfully designed. The
type of shot used, whether it was a closeup, medium shot, American shot, or long shot
had a reasoning behind it. The director had to decide whether he wanted to focus on
the character or specific details about the character s actions or emotions as well as
