The Underlying Courage in “A Wrinkle in Time”
The Underlying Courage in A Wrinkle in Time Typically in novels there are many supporting themes
to create the storyline in the novel; in A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L Engle a major theme in the
novel is courage. It shows in almost every chapter, through Margaret (Meg) Murry and Charles
Wallace Murry. The quest the kids go through in the novel corresponds to Joseph Campbell s Hero s
journey also the type of courage found within the Christian framework. Courage is having the strength
to resist and endure fear, danger, and difficulty; it is the main thing that can keep the children together
on the journey. In the very beginning, of the novel, Meg is the first to display courage. She does so by

being so intelligent and bright, he still has flaws but more importantly courage. Above all, the novel A

Dalai Lama s Invasion On Tibetan Culture
During 1950, china invaded tibet and the small tibetan army couldn t handle the stronger chinese army
and had to give in. In 1951, a peaceful liberation took place and was signed by Tibet making many
agreements with China. The biggest condition was giving authority to the chinese over Tibet. The
upcoming anniversary of this liberation should not be commemorated because this was an invasion on
the tibetan culture and on the lives of the tibetan people.
A previous icon during the time of the peaceful liberation in Tibet, was the fourteenth Dalai Lama. He
tried to preach non violence to all the angry Tibetans. People refused his ways and began to fight the
communist ways and the Lama did not support them. When Dalai Lama returned to India to celebrate
the Buddha, he did not want to go back to Tibet with all the fighting. Eventually a big fight broke out
with the chinese army and tibetan gorillas and the Dalai Lama had to flee and was no longer welcome
in Tibet with his people. This liberation ruined a religious icon in Tibet and that is no reason to
celebrate.(Gale Group)

agriculture. This proves true and it would of been a change for the better if only the Chinese didn t
take away all the privately owned farm lands in Tibet and make it their own land. Developing better
agriculture didn t feel like an accomplishment for the Tibetans because the had no ownership over the
land, meaning there is no need for a celebration in

What Is Imperialism In Things Fall Apart
As a simply written novel with an incredibly complex theme, Things Fall Apart gives readers a touch
of cultural shock which manages to leave them unwilling to return home after the last page. Chinua
Achebe, the author, bases the plot around the experiences his people group has with imperialism and
uses events throughout the story to prove his opinion on this controversial occurrence in history. The
tale centers around Okonkwo, an Ibo man determined to stay traditional, which becomes problematic
when Europeans begin to take over African tribes and reorganize their governments. This experience
exhibits imperialism, which most know of as the policy of extending the rule or authority of an empire
or nation over foreign countries, or of acquiring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a way for clansmen to solve problems among themselves, this judgment is vital to the continuous
survival of the Ibo people. The Ibo people s ancestors run the court, with masks to hide their true
identities and keep the illusion real to naive clansmen. Each egwugwu represents one of the nine
villages of the clan, and all gather prior to the tribunal in a hut exclusive to members of the esoteric
cult. Outside the private hut lies the ilo, the village green, where the Ibo hold these courts and the
crowd gathers around the opposing parties and the stools specified for the elders to watch. The
organization and work behind such an procedure supports the Ibo s civility in that citizens are using
their time to settle issues that others have and work together to solve problems that may not even
involve them. When a culture cooperates to achieve peace, it proves that their relationships with each
other are healthy and without any bonds between citizens to hold a culture together, there will
undoubtedly be separation which leads to falling apart. The fact that the Ibo do this supports their
civility and that they do not need imperialism. Further evidence is provided when Evil Forest, the
leader of the egwugwu, states We have heard both sides of the case... our duty is not to blame this man
or to praise that, but to settle the dispute (93.) When a court hears both sides of a case, it proves that
they value equality which is a key quality in a civilized society as it allows everyone in the clan to be
treated the same and that prevents displeasure which could lead to a clan s destruction. Thus a judicial
system becomes necessary to an established tribe and the fact that the Ibo people have one supports
the claim of their civility and that they do not need

Essay on The Quest for Peace in Siddhartha, by Hermann Hesse
Siddhartha, an allegorical novel written by Hermann Hesse, primarily tells the tale of an Indian man,
Siddhartha, and his quest for peace and totality during the time of the Buddha. The story focuses on
him leaving his family home in India to find this peace and totality, but the theme of this story is not
just about Siddhartha, there is an underlying theme which demonstrates that Siddhartha is not the only
person searching for this peace, and this quest is not solely the theme of the story for Siddhartha, but
for many of the characters, Siddhartha included. Siddhartha s father, the Brahmin, is on his quest to
find peace, the Buddha had already found their peace and Siddhartha is of course also searching for
peace. The theme of the novel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With such a high social status, one would assume that the holy man would be satisfied with his life,
and this would be an incorrect assumption. He may have thought that he was satisfied, but he knew his
life was far from complete, and he was in reality very far from being at peace. He was a very vapid
man, and only did what he thought was making him happy, and at peace. Siddhartha s father could not
even get his son to follow the rituals to become a Hindu scholar like he was. Siddhartha s father would
do ablutions in the river and would constantly offer sacrifices to the gods in his never ending attempts
to find peace and totality for himself. Constantly searching for this totality, a sense that his life was
complete and was for something, Siddhartha s father knew that his life would never be complete, not
without his son. Siddhartha s father can search his whole life, but it will never be enough when his
own son ran away from home. Siddhartha s father was constantly looking for peace and totality, and
was not the only one trying to achieve this goal in the novel. It s quite unfortunate he will never be at
peace, as he never saw his son again. Siddhartha s father may as well be comatose; he will never
achieve true peace and totality until he is with his son, who seeks peace and totality, just like his father
does.
Siddhartha grew up with his friend Govinda. Siddhartha found that he required peace and totality in
his life, and Govinda simply just

Creative Writing On Ghost Town
It was a hot afternoon at a town where no GPs, or Map could identify or locate my friends and I went
to go visit this town out of curiosity a lot of the kids in our school always talked about kids missing
and why no one can find them because of the place that they call Ghost Town. When we stepped on
the fertile soil, we saw abandoned old houses as If we were in the 1911. We immediately got a sense,
we were not alone I don t know about this place guys lets get out of here Citaly said, come on it s not
that scary and you promised you would not be scared Jaylee replied while Citaly and Jaylee were

we knew that Citaly was right, what if some of these people didn t make it alive. Than i got this weird

A Strategy For Modeling Salton Sea Basin Future Climate...
Results: A Strategy For Modeling Salton Sea Basin Future Climate Scenarios Based On Relationships
Between Evapotranspiration And Precipitation
A comparison of the averaged weather station datasets versus the historic individual weather station
datasets was made for both precipitation and Eto. The averaged monthly dataset preserved seasonality
for both precipitation and Eto as illustrated in the figures. Notably, for the months of February, March,
and April, the average monthly precipitation volume was lower than the actual weather station historic
data. This occurred for two reasons: 1) the disparity in the number of observations between the two
weather station datasets and the average resulting in the largest number of observations ... Show more

The results of the two test statistics differed at times, i.e., listing two different curves as providing the
best fit. In the fore mentioned situation, a final decision pertaining to the best fit was made based on a

Precipitation Events and Eto Levels
The importance of using monthly data instead of annual data for the Salton Sea Basin. Further, the two
models: (1) (Logit Y1,..........12) Month = Constant + X1 Prcp, and (2) (Logit Y1,..........12) Month =
Constant + X1 Eto, established that some months were significantly different than others concerning
the amounts of precipitation and Eto, respectively. The relationships between the duration of
precipitation events ( CatEvent ) on the volume of precipitation ( PrcpAmt and CatVol ), and also on
Eto volumes. A plot of the precipitation and Eto observations, percentage or percentage of
observations of a given magnitude, respectively, by month was also made.
The negative relationship between precipitation and Eto was tested statistically using two multinomial
logistic regression models and one binomial logistic regression model, respectively: (3) (Logit Y0,...4)
PrcpAmt = Constant + X1 Eto, (4) (Logit Y0,....5) CatEvent = Constant + X1 Eto, and (5) (Logit

Jocasta Tragic Hero
Tragic Hero The definition of a tragic hero has become an issue of contention as many scholar come
up with their definitions. In addition, tragic heroes make decisions that destroy them in the end of the
story; however the decisions are always good for them or for the society. In Oedipus Rex, the
protagonist Oedipus is depicted as a tragic hero because of his strength, nobility, and his determination
to find the murderer. In most tragic hero stories and plays, the tragic hero does something good for the
people that eventually destroy him or her. In addition, Jocasta cannot be considered as a tragic hero in
the story because she had tragic flaws, which later led to her downfall. Jocasta is a character in the
story Oedipus the King. Other than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the end of the story, Jocasta committed suicide because, she realized that, the prophesy was true
and she was truly married to her son, who had earlier on killed his father. Tragic heroes never make
such mistakes; instead, they save the situation even if it means giving up their lives. Even though
Jocasta tried to give up her son to die, she never made sure that h died. Moreover, even after her
husband was killed, she could have investigated what really happened, instead, she went ahead to
marry the king, who was her son. For this reason, Jocasta cannot be considered as a tragic hero in the
story second to Oedipus because, she commits an action that ultimately destroys her, yet she could
have saved her life and become a tragic hero. Therefore, Jocasta cannot be considered as a tragic hero
because, a tragic hero is the main character in the story, who holds great powers and does good deeds,
yet for her, she was second to Oedipus because she was not the main character, and her bad deeds
outshines her good deeds. Jocasta was disloyal to her husband, which led to his killing, and she did
nothing to find out about his death. Even though her life ended up miserably by committing suicide,
Oedipus is the tragic character in the

The Government Intervention Of Medicalization
Katie Chirco Government Intervention of Medicalization Medicalization is defined as the process by
which nonmedical problems become defined and treated as medical problems, usually in the terms of
illnesses and disorders. Medicalization consists of using medical terms to define, understand and treat
a problem. There are three levels of medicalization: fully medicalized, partially medicalized, and
minimally medicalized. Childbirth and death are two examples of a fully medicalized condition.
Menopause and drug addiction are examples of problems that are partially medicalized. Domestic
abuse and sexual addiction are examples of conditions that are minimally medicalized (Conrad, 1992).
However, it is unclear of what exactly determines what level of medicalization a condition falls under.
The process of medicalization is very broad and not very consistent from case to case. There are some
instances where medical professionals are involved in a condition becoming medicalized, while there
are other times where there are no medical professionals involved in the process whatsoever. It was
not until the 1970 s that the social issue of medicalization began being debated. It was during this
decade where social problems like hyperactivity in children, child abuse and alcoholism all were
becoming medicalized (Conrad, 1992). The biggest controversy over this was that many believed that
nonmedical issues were inappropriately becoming medicalized. Ever since then, more and

Dynamic Vision
Dynamic Vision of Social Justice My dynamic vision of social justice looks like a combination of
individual empowerment and group empowerment. Albano (2015) argues that group empowerment is
the better form of social justice because individual empowerment is a limited way to change the
system and works within the existing power structure. I believe both empowerments are best
combined into an effective approach to social justice. A client cannot even begin to advocate with the
community if he or she still worries about attaining the basic necessities of living like housing of food.
For instance, I work in the San Francisco South of Market (SOMA) district where the youth
organizations and the activist organizations struggle over the response ... Show more content on

I know that my vision of justice is smaller in scale than what this MSW program seems to be
advocating. However, I see the value in attending to the immediate needs of my clients because
worrying about whether or not they can eat or where they can live cannot be forgotten in the struggle
toward equality for all. Ever since I wanted to become a social worker, I am very aware that my
passion in social work lies in direct practice with Filipino youth and their families. While I understand
that there will be times when advocacy is needed, I see advocacy as an addition to what I truly want to
do in social work. There are several strengths to performing social justice within a smaller sphere and
employing both individual and group empowerment. One can see immediate changes in the quality of
services to clients. Cohesion and relationship building with fellow social workers should be a priority
because if you cannot even trust your coworkers, being able to advocate together with the community
would not be possible due to infighting over the goals. This smaller approach takes into account that
limited funding and too many caseloads makes grand gestures for social justice are not feasible to the
majority of social workers. I do see the limitations of a smaller approach, however. Namely, the
progress toward social justice is slower and more minimal to existing structures. As well, much more
energy is expended to sustain the small forms of resistance (Smith,

Kenny Garrett Research Paper
Kenny Garrett
Kenny Garrett is one of my favorite Alto saxophone players. He was born in Detroit, in 1960 and
started to play saxophone in his childhood since his father also played tenor sax. Kenny Garrett s
career as a saxophonist started early at the age of 17 with a saxophone spot in Mercer Ellington s
revived Ellington Orchestra. And then he seated in Mel Lewis group (a traditional route for young and
aspiring jazzers), and performing Charles Mingus music with Dannie Richmond Quartet. Garrett
earned a complete musical education, in a series of surprisingly mainstream jazz groups, considering
his edgy and experimental, funky style.

Kenny re harmonized the chords over the bass line. That is all learned from the experience with Miles.

after that in the light. They were the dull and afterward they were the light. Obscurity alludes to when
they were lost and did not know the Lord. They were the light when they were spared and got to be

lack of awareness, blunder and shrewd, light speaking to truth and exemplary nature (Stott, 199). The

Ending of Far from the Madding Crowd
Question Is the ending of the Far from the Madding Crowd look consistent? Reason your answer.
Answer Thomas Hardy s Far from the Madding Crowd is somewhat gruesome and somber in tone
with the novelist s vision of human destiny and his concept of invincible Fate that intervenes and
shapes joys and sorrows in the world of humans. It is one of the finest novels in the world of literature
with the setting of pastoral landscape surrounded by woods, dales and heaths of Wessex life. The main
plot of the novel grows slowly and furthers towards tragic consequence in a way that heightens the
impression of a perfect tragedy. But suddenly towards the end the vital tone resounding ... Show more

The purpose of writing this novel in that case would have been properly fulfilled. It is because Far
from the Madding Crowd is basically a tragedy. As far as the main plot is concerned the fact can never
be denied that the suffering of human beings is inevitable in this world and that suffering here in this
novel comes through follies and misjudgment inherent in the mind of man. Fate only works as an
accelerator to push man towards his ultimate destiny. Hardy s protagonists in Far from the Madding
Crowd suffer from some weakness or follies latent in their souls. They also like the heroes and
heroines of Shakespearean or classical Greek tragedy either suffer from the error of judjgement or
fatal flaw in their character or fall victims of Fate directly. All the major characters in Far from the
Madding Crowd are portrayed very intelligently by the novelist. They are like the brightly coloured
rabbits in the glowing sunshine, but eventually shadowed like all human beings by certain tinges of
follies. This realistic portrayal makes them immortals in literature. They are at the same time eligible
enough to compete with the magnificent creations of great tragedies. If we keep aside for a moment
the role of chance in Fanny s death, Troy undeniably suffers for his flirtatious and

Shawshank Redemption Behaviorism
The book Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption shows the stretch of behaviorism. It explored
how being separated from something for a long time can affect the instincts of the individual. In the
story, when prisoners get out they are confused, feel unsafe, and think about commiting a crime just to
get back into prison. This story shows how being rewarded and being punished makes the individual
and makes an identity. Behaviorism is the idea that your behavior is determined by punishment or
reward. In Shawshank this is an important theme as it shows how the prisoners change and adapt in
prison. Prisoners get so used to prison life, that when they leave it is impossible for them to fit in. For
example, Brooks was in prison for about 50 years and when he got paroled he began crying as he was
leaving the prison. Brooks was the librarian in prison and held an important role compared to other
prisoners. He didn t last very long and died within six months outside of prison; Brooks helped raise a

They are an ancient group of animals that are thought to have emerged more that 500 million years

polyps are mostly sessile, but some have the ability to relocate themselves if necessary. When jellyfish

Spirocysts do not have any piercing elements, and are used to attach to prey and non prey. (Östman,
2000) They secrete an adhering hydroscopic substance that allows the tube to adhere to substrates
without piercing them. (Östman, 2000) Spirocysts are very tightly wound within a thin walled
spirocyst, in comparison to the thick walled nematocyst. Spirocysts are only found in Anthozoans, and
are usually used in conjunction with nematocysts to hold prey and envenomate it. (Östman, 2000) The
success of this depends on how well the tentacles can adhere to its prey. The intrinsic adherence of the
cnidarian firing the cnidae is measure by the amount of force it takes to remove a target from the
tentacle. (Thorington and Hessinger, 1998) the total adhesive force, as calculated by Thorington and
Hassinger is equal to the adhesive force of the spirocyst mucus (St) and the product of the number of
cnidae ( mastigophore nematocysts (nm), and spirocysts (ns) discharging onto the target and their
intrinsic adherence, ( mastigophore nematocysts (im), and spirocysts (is). When combined Adhesive
force = St + (nm)(im) + (ns) (is) They found that the product of the number of cnidae and the intrinsic
adherence for spirocysts had no effect on overall adherence, so they shortened the equation to

My Neighborhood Exploration Is On The Island Of Manhattan...
My neighborhood exploration is on the island of Manhattan s Chinatown. Before I begin noting my
description of Chinatown, I must inform the reader of my existing attachments, sentiments, and
personal connection with the neighborhood. I have been visiting this particular neighborhood for a
rather large portion of my life. With my grandparents having lived in the Lower East Side for the
formative years of my childhood, visiting Chinatown is something my brothers and I grew up doing
for family outings and restaurant visits. For the past year, I have worked at the Museum of Chinese in
America located on 215 Centre Street and therefore have regular interaction with the people who live
and work in the neighborhood, as I am one of them. Although I live in the Bronx, like in most New
York City neighborhoods, there exist many dimensions and areas that have their own unique and
interesting histories that may be hidden to New York City residents and tourists alike. As for my
description and commentary on the materiality of the neighborhood I will focus on the main street that
runs through the heart of Chinatown, known as Canal Street, and specifically the streets of Bayard,
Centre, and Mott. Canal Street is one of the arteries of the heart of the City of New York. With the
Manhattan Bridge s entrance from Brooklyn directly leading onto Canal Street, the amount of traffic
that bustles by on a daily basis is crazy and there are always traffic cops on duty whistling away. The

Andrew Murray Religion
Introduction
Andrew Murray was born in Cape Town, South Africa; Murray became a noted missionary leader. His
father was a Scottish Presbyterian serving the Dutch Reformed Church of South Africa, and his
mother had connections with both French Huguenots and German Lutherans. This background to
some extent explains his ecumenical spirit. He was educated at Aberdeen University, Scotland, and at
Utrecht University in the Netherlands. After ordination in 1848 he served pastorates at Bloemfontein,

I joke that he is a dead mentor to me, because when I read his writings there is a longing in me to
imitate his faith, his passion for God, his conviction about being holy, his understanding about the
grace of God. I admire just how plainly and affectionately he wrote about heavenly things as though
he truly understood them. I just sit amazed at what God revealed to him and wonder if I will ever truly
know without a shadow of a doubt the things he speaks about. His writings are not just fluff, but are
the meat and potatoes of Christianity. If you read them you will not be disappointed, but you will be
challenged and inspired to believe you really can be godly through Jesus Christ. This is one of my
favorite books, perhaps because it provoked such thoughts of what true surrender is in the life of the
Christian. Should you ever find yourself driven to know the truth about the surrendered life, select this
book and encounter the concepts within. I would recommend this book to current believers who wish
to take their relationship with the Lord to the next level. His writing is geared towards adults, as the

Moses Cooper In A Separate Peace
Moses is an ordinary farmer, and is one of the leader in the revolutionary activities. He is a very
opinionated man and likes to argue. He is proud of his Protestant heritage as a people of the Book, and
he scolds his son Adam for superstitious behavior, telling him the Coopers have been proud of their
literate and educated tradition. Moses helps a lot of people especially his neighbor Joseph Simmons.
Moses helped Simmons draft the statement on the rights of man as a basis for negotiating with the
British for independence. Moses is hard on his son Adam until he hears that Adam does not think that
he loves him. Hate him? My father exploded of all the crazy notions, of all idiotic ideas. There is a
boy, my first born son why would I hate him. (Page 45) He tells him he is too young for the
Committee but at the last minute allows his son to sign up for the muster on the Common because he
sees in Adam s eyes that he will lose his son if he does not recognize him as a man in front of the other
men. In the book, Moses Cooper is portrayed as a very opinionated, religious, and an enraged man but
behind all of this he is a very emotional person. This is proven as the book reaches The Morning,
section of the book. In the beginning Moses had no sympathy towards Adam and always looked at
him as if he was a boy, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Downward Spiral Analysis
In 1994, Nine Inch Nails released a dark, desolate album called The Downward Spiral. The songs are
known to alternate violently between too low volumes with sweet melody (along with that soft ragged
voice characteristic of grunge) and too high volumes with many layers of white noise, screaming, and
distortion layered over hard rock instrumentals (Gold). The message of the album is as disturbing as
the audio: It tracks the narrator s path of self destruction through attempting to find satisfaction in
religion, sex, and drug abuse ( Interview ). The album, while rife with emotional significance on its
own, acts as both a prophecy and a cry for help. It followed a junkie s painful lifestyle, the addiction
and abuse functioning solely as a metaphor for Reznor s internal strife ( Interview ). But soon after
releasing The Downward Spiral, Reznor would turn to drugs and alcohol, later surviving a heroin

The first lyric sets the tone for the whole song: I hurt myself today/To see if I still feel . That first
verse later goes on to describe the narrator s usage of drugs (likely heroin): The needle tears a

himself (either indirectly through drugs or by actually inflicting pain), uses the pain and high to try to
forget his situation, but apparently still remembers everything. The narrator is disgusted with how
everything has turned out, and asks in a refrain, What have I become? He is miserable, and considers
his life and accomplishments (his empire of dirt ) worthless. To mark the very end of this sorrowful
soliloquy, Reznor softly adds If I could start again/ A million miles away/ I would keep myself/ I
would find a way . If he could start his life over, he wouldn t have done it like

The Six Cultural Differences Of Barbie In China
Introduction
Mattel attempted to incorporate Barbie into China by opening a Barbie store. The business failed due
to Mattel not researching the market and how to incorporate the products into the Chinese market.
There are many cultural differences that Mattel needed to take into consideration before they
attempted to bring Barbie to China. Problems Mattel Faced
According to Wang (2012), Mattel did not fully understand what Chinese girls and women wanted
from a doll. Femininity is different in China compared to what it can be defined as in the United
States. Mattel opened a large store in Shanghai that not only had Barbie dolls, but also accessories and
activities for consumers such as a runway and dressing rooms. The Barbie doll was not an icon in
China like it has become in the United States and the store suffered because the relevance of Barbie
and associated products was not a part of what the Chinese girls wanted. Six Cultural Issues and
Mattel Performance
Values and Attitudes
The Chinese people want to have relationships with possible business partners before they do business
with them. The Chinese believe in socializing and getting to know people as a way to see what type of
person they will be dealing with. This is called guanxi (Firoz, Nadeem M. Topchaya, Olga, 2016).
Chinese businesses will not focus on efficiency and view change as disruptive to their business. When
Mattel brought the Barbie store into Shanghai, the Chinese people did not know Mattel and how
Mattel would be conducting business in their city. This caused uncertainty and Chinese people not
knowing if they wanted to do business with Mattel.
Dress codes
Chinese women tend to dress more conservatively. Chinese women often do not wear midriff shirts or
plunging necklines, but tend to wear clothes that do not accentuate their body and curves(Aaker
Schmitt, 2001). Barbie is known to have curves and tight fitting clothing that more fits the western
culture.
Marketing styles differences
When marketing in China you need to focus on the consumers getting to know the product before
placing it in stores or opening a new business. The Barbie store opened in a single location in a large
country which could be

Women s Role Of Women In The Victorian Era
Victorian Era was an era in which women had endless predicaments in their lives. Women had
restriction, such as: what subjects they should study, they were not allowed to vote, they were not
grand their fortune after marriage, she should not leave the domestic sphere, and who should be
submissive. The role model for this concept was Queen Victoria herself, who, together with her
husband, Albert, had nine children and embodied the perfect family. She was even described as the
mother of the nation (BBC, Web). As I strongly disagree with the women s treatment back then, I want
to celebrate in this essay woman who, even a little bit broke the constraints and enjoyed their lives in a
period of oppressions. The beginning of this new women era, in which women asked to be heard,
started with Sunday Schools, in which the majority of volunteers were women, so they begin to go out
and interact with other people. The ones that are to be blamed for the women s situation in Victorian
Period are the women themselves, as Sarah Grand explains in her The New Aspect of the Woman

Descriptive Essay About Awe
Awe. Complete and utter awe. That was the only way I could ever describe the feeling the night sky
struck into me with its thousands upon thousands of stars. I had never seen the sky this beautiful. I had
never seen anything like this all my life. Taking a few steps back, I seated myself on a stone that stood
like a miniature plateau above the surrounding grass. I had been told this would be the best spot to see
the sky tonight, and I had not been told a lie. I looked straight up so that the rest of the Earth escaped
my view, so that there would be nothing but the endless void above me. It would have been
intimidating, if not for the pure beauty of the stars that pierced through the dark of night. I slowly
looked down upon the town, away from the harsh contrast of black and white to instead a blur of
color. Children dashed in small circles around their parents, women danced across the square wearing
vibrant dresses, men sat to the side as they drank, made cheerful conversation, and smiled, admiring
the festival around them just as I was from the top of my overlook, hidden by the night. I didn t want
to leave. This was my new favorite location in town. Unfortunately, I didn t want to miss the festival
either. The sounds of the celebration managed to lure me away. Beginning my descent, I could hear
the music grow louder and louder. I slid down the earthen wall I had strolled by most days of my life,
but only climbed for the first time this evening. I considered finding

Jacob Riis How the Other Half Lives Essay
Jacob Riis How the Other Half Lives In How the Other Half Lives, the author Jacob Riis sheds light
on the darker side of tenant housing and urban dwellers. He goes to several different parts of the city
of New York witnessing first hand the hardships that many immigrants faced when coming to
America. His journalism and photographs of the conditions of the tenant housing helped led the way
of reformation in the slums of New York. His research opened the eyes of many Americans to the
darker side of the nation s lower class. Though it seems that he blamed both the victims and the board

Most contracts never mentioned the safety and comfort of tenants (p. 10). In addition, many of the
tenants were working and needed to be close to where they worked. The costs of living in these
tenement houses were ridiculously high for the condition and size of the rooms. Riis described how
some Italians were given board as long as the Italian made enough ash barrels to feed him, which
unfortunately caused many Italians to get use to free rent and thus many were driven to another dump.
Riis did not care much for the Italians, because of their lack of focus and life style. One of the well
known tenement housing the Bend was labeled as one of the bad tenement houses, and even the
optimists agreed. It was said that the more you had done the less it has seemed to accomplish in the
way of real relief (p 46). Also under the pressure of the growing Italian community, the standard of
breathing space required for an adult by the health officers was cut from six hundred to four hundred
cubic feet. With such increase in population in certain tenement housing the sanitary policeman would
locate the bulk of his four hundred, and the sanitary reformer gives up the task in despair (p. 55). I
personally think what he is saying is that the community and government waited too long to start
helping the lower class. That the problem of overcrowding and of health regulations had gotten too far
out of reach for us to help them. I had mentioned

Research Paper On Becoming A Dentist
Becoming a Dentist
Faith Taylor
November 6, 2018
Dr. Williams
Dentistry is one of the oldest medical professions. It started back in 7000 BC with the Indus Valley
Civilization. In Greece, the Aristotle and Hippocrates wrote about treating decayed teeth and extracted
the teeth to keep the pain away. They used forceps to perform the procedure. By the 1700s dentistry
has become more known as a profession. A French surgeon name Pierre Fauchard came up with the
idea of tooth filling and the use of prostheses (to restore missing parts of teeth and the structures of the
jaw and palate.) He also found that the acids from sugar leads to tooth decay. Later, Baltimore College
of Dental was founded as the first dental college in 1840. Twenty years later, the American Dental
Association was created. In 1869, the first African American to earn a dental degree and the first
female dental assistance was in 1885. Americans didn t start frequently brushing their teeth until after
World War II. The soldiers who went overseas came back and brought the knowledge of dental
hygiene back to the United States. Colgate produced the first tube of toothpaste in 1873. 12 years later
Hiram Nicholas Wadsworth created the first tooth brush in America. In 1939, the electric tooth brush
was created in Switzerland.

Forgiveness In Smoke Signals
The film Smoke Signals shows the process of forgiveness and how hard it can be to forgive. Viewers
see Victor, challenged by two people who force him to rethink his self concept and also the beliefs he

Robert Welch Leadership
When people sign up for the ministry; or better stated, when people are called into the ministry, they
often assume that most of their time will be spent studying the bible, conversing with lost souls about
the good news of Jesus and seeking God in prayer. However, successful ministers and ministries are
the result of effectively executed administrative duties. According to Robert Welch and his book
Church Administration, a study of pastors revealed, about 57 percent of their ministry was tied up in
strictly nonpastoral administrative duties. 1 What is more, many ministers admitted, counseling,
visitation, family time, prayer and personal devotions suffer in too many cases. 2 Is this simply a case
of misguided expectations, poor leadership ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I remember when I was given my first ministry leadership opportunity, there were barely twenty
people to manage and that was only for one summer. However, in my current setting, there are
hundreds of people that I am responsible. To help with this situation, Welch points to the story of
Moses and Jethro as an example of a wise and foolish leader. Moses attempted to manage everyone
alone (being foolish) and his wise father in law recommends that he administers differently by
appointing leaders of 100s, 50s, 10s, and so on. What is more, Welch points out an interesting fact of
that God chose significant leaders who were prepared for the task of leadership and organization. 4
There is great importance to recognize God s selection of people for the work and the connection
between leadership and organization. Perhaps as leaders become more organized their leadership
grows; and vice versa. Also, the Apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 12 about God giving the church
different leadership roles; one of which is administrations.5 Therefore, the role of administration is
from God and necessary for a church to thrive; as well as grow into what Jesus intends it to be. Also,
my role is not to unload the needs of administration onto someone else, but rather see administration
as a primary function of my role within the church. Yet what exactly is administration within the
context of the local church? At a glance, administration seems to be the function of a church secretary
or assistant pastor rather than a role every leader plays. However, this assumption is misguided
because administration is leadership. Welch eloquently states administration

The Declaration Of Independence And Independence
Who were the writers of the Declaration of Independence? Who are our founding fathers and where
did they receive these great ideas? I will examine the main writer of the Declaration of Independence
Thomas Jefferson and look at the sources he used to begin our country. If Thomas Jefferson was a
student at the United States Sergeant Major Academy, and he submitted his Declaration of
Independence to turn it in would he pass? Were our founding fathers even great thinkers or were they
just taking the advice of someone else and putting it to use? The ideas and political thought that
inspired the historic Declaration of Independence did not extemporaneously pop into Thomas
Jefferson s head, but rather were a product of English literature. Start of Independence The
Declaration of Independence purpose was to demonstrate the accretion of power by the Continental
Congress as a concomitant to the drive for separation from the British Empire. Earlier in 1765, the
continental congress met to directly petition the two houses of the British Parliament. The Stamp Act
Congress was the first major meeting of the Continental Congress. In 1774, the King himself would be
the target of a more direct approach by the Congress. The balance in argument between economic
policy, on the one hand, and the natural and constitutional rights, on the other, that had characterized
the literary efforts during the Stamp Act crisis changed to a total emphasis on American rights in 1774.

Tyson Foods Competitive Advantage
The global poultry trade has been, and continues to be one of the fastest growing meat trades of the
last few years (Davis, 2015). The poultry industry has over the years has been faced a multitude of
challenges; this report explores factors that influence international trade, whilst explaining how a firm
s competitive advantage can be altered as a change in tariffs and quotas. From a Senior Managers
perspective, the report will also identify potential obstacles that a North American poultry firm may
face in the global market and explain how they achieve a comparative advantage. The Effect of Trade
Barriers on a Firms Competitive Advantage As a firm structured within the U.S broiler industry, there
are several factors that immediately give the company a competitive advantage. Typically, as a
developed country; North American firms combine maximal efficiency rates with minimal costs of

combination of diversification, off farm income and increased farm financial performance as well high
productivity which results in greater exports and an improved competitive advantage. Using Tyson

Democracy And Its Lack Of Democracy
Throughout Plato s Republic in Book VIII, readers are caught up in the conversation about four unjust
structures that each structure will succeed the other as society decays. The four unjust structures are
explained throughout dialogue and described as timocracy, oligarchy, democracy, and tyranny. Most
shocking critique throughout the discussion is about democracy and its ineffectiveness to rule. Plato s
disagreement of democracy does not involve of what we are acquainted with today, but rather the idea
of democracy. Plato explores the central strain of the government that is acknowledged with liberty
and fairness. Also, this form of government known for its embracement of freedom and equality. Plato
s description and disagreement about democracy is correct because the consequences of such
government is that it leads the population to pursue unnecessary desires.
Democracy is the type of government where the rule comes from people. Democracy, as we know it
today, gives power to the many and in turn give most importance to the idea of obtaining freedom.

Harry Harlow s Article Discovering Love
Discovering Love is an article about the definition of love and the different aspects, such as how it
works and where you get it. Developmental psychologist Harry Harlow is the main contributor to this
study. Harlow was particularly interested in how early life experiences, specifically interaction with
one s mother or primary caregiver, impact an individual s ability to love and be loved by others later in
life. In the 1950 s, Harlow conducted a study using monkeys and surrogate mothers made of artificial
materials. He did various tests with the monkeys in which eight monkeys were assigned to either a
cloth or wire mother. Both surrogate mothers fed their monkeys, provided heat and had the same
shape. The only difference was what they were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One specific study in which Harlow is cited was done by two researchers by the names of Eidelman
and Feldman. They examined how crucial it is that premature infants receive an appropriate amount of
skin to skin contact. Without proper contact, (also called Kangaroo care) premature babies are more at
risk of death and life altering illness. This is quite a recent finding, and it most definitely applies to life
today when it comes to giving all infants the best care possible to fit their needs. Another way that the
study influences life today is how impactful the power of touch really is. When trying to establish a
bond with someone, physical contact could lead the way to an unbreakable emotional bond. But how
much is too much? Everyone has different needs, and Harlow s findings show us that while all living
things are unique, we all have relatively similar things that must be done in order to achieve the
healthiest emotional connection between anyone.
I agree that the Harry Harlow study is entirely relevant to life today, useful, and in no way cruel to the
monkeys involved. It demonstrates the importance of contact comfort

Cultural Values In Beowulf
Each individual culture has many cultural truths that a group of people follow and believe in. Cultural
truths are principles, values, or standards important to a group of people, which display moral
behaviors that are respected and immoral actions that are scorned at. Also, cultural truths are norms in
a society that you are born into and are expected to do daily because they shape the lifestyle of a
group. For example, during the Anglo Saxon period, there were a number of cultural truths that were
applied to everyday actions and attitudes. An epic poem, composed based on the Anglo Saxon period
called Beowulf, written by an unknown author translated by Seamus Heaney, depicts many of the
cultural values of the time period. In the poem, is it revealed that all the cultural values in the Anglo
Saxon culture are developed from the idea of a warrior culture. The epic poem is about a hero named
Beowulf from the Geats tribe who goes off and helps Hrothgar and the Danes defeat a monster,
Grendel, who attacks their mead hall. Before Beowulf meets his fate he fights three monsters, which
includes Grendel, to protect the lives of people in two different tribes. Within the epic poem Beowulf,
there are several of cultural values presented and focused on such as, courage in battle, fidelity to one
s word, and loyalty to kinsmen, which are all demonstrated by Beowulf. To begin, a cultural truth
admired by the Anglo Saxon is courage in battle because it is a trait of a good warrior in the eyes of
Anglo Saxon people. Courage in battle is the ability to not be afraid of the enemy, be strong, and
brave. Beowulf shows his above average strength and courage in battle when he is going to battle
Grendel: When it comes to battle, I count myself/ as dangerous any day as Grendel,/ ... No weapons,
therefore,/ for either this night: unarmed he shall face me/ if face me he dares (Beowulf 677 685). In
this quote Beowulf states and declares his abandonment of weapons, as well as his belief that he is as
strong as Grendel, so he will fight him without a weapon. This shows Beowulf s courage in battle
because it displays his tremendous strength and boldness by going to fight a monster with no weapons,
which demonstrates that he is not

Too Much Crying isn t a Good Thing
Crying is undoubtedly one of the most common humanistic features when it comes to the emotions of
the average person, due to the fact that every human being has shed tears for which ever reasons their
emotions led them to. However, crying can also be the result of many other issues and can indicate a
serious problem if done continuously and drastically to the point where it becomes a serious concern.
In adolescents, it is more normal to cry as the child may not understand or know what to do about a
situation, leaving them flustered, agitated, sad, angry, or any negative emotion causing them to cry.
With these things being said, when crying is understood to be the result of an underlying deep rooted
issue, the next step is to understand the enforcer that is keeping the behavior of crying continuous and
figure out exactly how to decrease it to the point of normality. Crying has also yet to be examined
systematically in isolation from other problem behavior, such as aggression or tantrums, during
functional analyses (Hanley, Iwata, McCord, 2003). Identification of variables that may maintain
crying is especially important for populations who are susceptible to psychiatric interventions (e.g.,
individuals who have intellectual disabilities and communication deficits). The current study extended
functional analysis methodology to crying with an adolescent boy who had been diagnosed with
intellectual disabilities. Results suggested that crying was maintained by caregiver

Coretta Scott King Speech
Coretta Scott King said Freedom is never really won, you earn it and win it in every generation. I
agree with King for a few reasons. Many people might just not even remember their rights. Your rights
may also even be stolen by someone. Freedom is always taken away, but you can get your rights and
freedom back by doing something outstanding. Freedom to me is being able to do whatever you want
that is reasonable. If you do something that is not reasonable your freedom may be taken away. You
can earn your rights back, but they can still be taken away again. If you do not break the laws you will
get more rights. Even though you may get more they rights they can still be taken away, if you break
the law. Secondly, you might not even remember

In 1951, a peaceful liberation took place and was signed by Tibet making many agreements with China. The biggest condition was giving authority to the chinese over Tibet. The upcoming anniversary of this liberation should not be commemorated because this was an invasion on the tibetan culture and on the lives of the tibetan people. A previous icon during the time of the peaceful liberation in Tibet, was the fourteenth Dalai Lama. He tried to preach non violence to all the angry Tibetans. People refused his ways and began to fight the communist ways and the Lama did not support them. When Dalai Lama returned to India to celebrate the Buddha, he did not want to go back to Tibet with all the fighting. Eventually a big fight broke out with the chinese army and tibetan gorillas and the Dalai Lama had to flee and was no longer welcome in Tibet with his people. • 5. What Is Imperialism In Things Fall Apart As a simply written novel with an incredibly complex theme, Things Fall Apart gives readers a touch of cultural shock which manages to leave them unwilling to return home after the last page. Chinua Achebe, the author, bases the plot around the experiences his people group has with imperialism and uses events throughout the story to prove his opinion on this controversial occurrence in history. The tale centers around Okonkwo, an Ibo man determined to stay traditional, which becomes problematic when Europeans begin to take over African tribes and reorganize their governments. This experience exhibits imperialism, which most know of as the policy of extending the rule or authority of an empire or nation over foreign countries, or of acquiring ... The Ibo people s ancestors run the court, with masks to hide their true identities and keep the illusion real to naive clansmen. Each egwugwu represents one of the nine villages of the clan, and all gather prior to the tribunal in a hut exclusive to members of the esoteric cult. Outside the private hut lies the ilo, the village green, where the Ibo hold these courts and the crowd gathers around the opposing parties and the stools specified for the elders to watch. The organization and work behind such an procedure supports the Ibo s civility in that citizens are using their time to settle issues that others have and work together to solve problems that may not even involve them. When a culture cooperates to achieve peace, it proves that their relationships with each other are healthy and without any bonds between citizens to hold a culture together, there will undoubtedly be separation which leads to falling apart. The fact that the Ibo do this supports their civility and that they do not need imperialism. Further evidence is provided when Evil Forest, the leader of the egwugwu, states We have heard both sides of the case... our duty is not to blame this man or to praise that, but to settle the dispute (93.) When a court hears both sides of a case, it proves that they value equality which is a key quality in a civilized society as it allows everyone in the clan to be treated the same and that prevents displeasure which could lead to a clan s destruction. Thus a judicial system becomes necessary to an established tribe and the fact that the Ibo people have one supports the claim of their civility and that they do not need ... Essay on The Quest for Peace in Siddhartha, by Hermann Hesse Siddhartha, an allegorical novel written by Hermann Hesse, primarily tells the tale of an Indian man, Siddhartha, and his quest for peace and totality during the time of the Buddha. The story focuses on him leaving his family home in India to find this peace and totality, but the theme of this story is not just about Siddhartha, there is an underlying theme which demonstrates that Siddhartha is not the only person searching for this peace, and this quest is not solely the theme of the story for Siddhartha, but for many of the characters, Siddhartha included. Siddhartha s father, the Brahmin, is on his quest to find peace, the Buddha had already found their peace and Siddhartha is of course also searching for peace. The theme of the novel ... He may have thought that he was satisfied, but he knew his life was far from complete, and he was in reality very far from being at peace. He was a very vapid man, and only did what he thought was making him happy, and at peace. Siddhartha s father could not even get his son to follow the rituals to become a Hindu scholar like he was. Siddhartha s father would do ablutions in the river and would constantly offer sacrifices to the gods in his never ending attempts to find peace and totality for himself. Constantly searching for this totality, a sense that his life was complete and was for something, Siddhartha s father knew that his life would never be complete, not without his son. Siddhartha s father can search his whole life, but it will never be enough when his own son ran away from home. Siddhartha s father was constantly looking for peace and totality, and was not the only one trying to achieve this goal in the novel. It s quite unfortunate he will never be at peace, as he never saw his son again. Siddhartha s father may as well be comatose; he will never achieve true peace and totality until he is with his son, who seeks peace and totality, just like his father does. In addition, tragic heroes make decisions that destroy them in the end of the story; however the decisions are always good for them or for the society. In Oedipus Rex, the protagonist Oedipus is depicted as a tragic hero because of his strength, nobility, and his determination to find the murderer. • 10. The Government Intervention Of Medicalization Katie Chirco Government Intervention of Medicalization Medicalization is defined as the process by which nonmedical problems become defined and treated as medical problems, usually in the terms of illnesses and disorders. Medicalization consists of using medical terms to define, understand and treat a problem. There are three levels of medicalization: fully medicalized, partially medicalized, and minimally medicalized. Childbirth and death are two examples of a fully medicalized condition. Menopause and drug addiction are examples of problems that are partially medicalized. Domestic abuse and sexual addiction are examples of conditions that are minimally medicalized (Conrad, 1992). However, it is unclear of what exactly determines what level of medicalization a condition falls under. The process of medicalization is very broad and not very consistent from case to case. There are some instances where medical professionals are involved in a condition becoming medicalized, while there are other times where there are no medical professionals involved in the process whatsoever. It was not until the 1970 s that the social issue of medicalization began being debated. It was during this decade where social problems like hyperactivity in children, child abuse and alcoholism all were becoming medicalized (Conrad, 1992). The biggest controversy over this was that many believed that nonmedical issues were inappropriately becoming medicalized. Ever since then, more and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Albano (2015) argues that group empowerment is the better form of social justice because individual empowerment is a limited way to change the system and works within the existing power structure. I believe both empowerments are best combined into an effective approach to social justice. Ever since I wanted to become a social worker, I am very aware that my passion in social work lies in direct practice with Filipino youth and their families. While I understand that there will be times when advocacy is needed, I see advocacy as an addition to what I truly want to do in social work. There are several strengths to performing social justice within a smaller sphere and employing both individual and group empowerment. One can see immediate changes in the quality of services to clients. Cohesion and relationship building with fellow social workers should be a priority because if you cannot even trust your coworkers, being able to advocate together with the community would not be possible due to infighting over the goals. This smaller approach takes into account that limited funding and too many caseloads makes grand gestures for social justice are not feasible to the majority of social workers. It is one of the finest novels in the world of literature with the setting of pastoral landscape surrounded by woods, dales and heaths of Wessex life. As far as the main plot is concerned the fact can never be denied that the suffering of human beings is inevitable in this world and that suffering here in this novel comes through follies and misjudgment inherent in the mind of man. Fate only works as an accelerator to push man towards his ultimate destiny. Hardy s protagonists in Far from the Madding Crowd suffer from some weakness or follies latent in their souls. They also like the heroes and heroines of Shakespearean or classical Greek tragedy either suffer from the error of judjgement or fatal flaw in their character or fall victims of Fate directly. This story shows how being rewarded and being punished makes the individual and makes an identity. Behaviorism is the idea that your behavior is determined by punishment or reward. In Shawshank this is an important theme as it shows how the prisoners change and adapt in prison. Prisoners get so used to prison life, that when they leave it is impossible for them to fit in. • 26. The Six Cultural Differences Of Barbie In China Introduction Mattel attempted to incorporate Barbie into China by opening a Barbie store. The business failed due to Mattel not researching the market and how to incorporate the products into the Chinese market. There are many cultural differences that Mattel needed to take into consideration before they attempted to bring Barbie to China. Problems Mattel Faced According to Wang (2012), Mattel did not fully understand what Chinese girls and women wanted from a doll. Femininity is different in China compared to what it can be defined as in the United States. Mattel opened a large store in Shanghai that not only had Barbie dolls, but also accessories and activities for consumers such as a runway and dressing rooms. The Barbie doll was not an icon in China like it has become in the United States and the store suffered because the relevance of Barbie and associated products was not a part of what the Chinese girls wanted. Six Cultural Issues and Mattel Performance Values and Attitudes The Chinese people want to have relationships with possible business partners before they do business with them. The Chinese believe in socializing and getting to know people as a way to see what type of person they will be dealing with. This is called guanxi (Firoz, Nadeem M. Topchaya, Olga, 2016). Chinese businesses will not focus on efficiency and view change as disruptive to their business. When Mattel brought the Barbie store into Shanghai, the Chinese people did not know Mattel and how Mattel would be conducting business in their city. This caused uncertainty and Chinese people not knowing if they wanted to do business with Mattel. Dress codes Chinese women tend to dress more conservatively. Chinese women often do not wear midriff shirts or plunging necklines, but tend to wear clothes that do not accentuate their body and curves(Aaker Schmitt, 2001). • 27. Women s Role Of Women In The Victorian Era Victorian Era was an era in which women had endless predicaments in their lives. Women had restriction, such as: what subjects they should study, they were not allowed to vote, they were not grand their fortune after marriage, she should not leave the domestic sphere, and who should be submissive. The role model for this concept was Queen Victoria herself, who, together with her husband, Albert, had nine children and embodied the perfect family. She was even described as the mother of the nation (BBC, Web). As I strongly disagree with the women s treatment back then, I want to celebrate in this essay woman who, even a little bit broke the constraints and enjoyed their lives in a period of oppressions. The beginning of this new women era, in which women asked to be heard, started with Sunday Schools, in which the majority of volunteers were women, so they begin to go out and interact with other people. The ones that are to be blamed for the women s situation in Victorian Period are the women themselves, as Sarah Grand explains in her The New Aspect of the Woman Question: We have allowed him to arrange the whole social system...Man deprived us of all proper education, and then jeered at us because we had no knowledge. • 28. Descriptive Essay About Awe Awe. Complete and utter awe. That was the only way I could ever describe the feeling the night sky struck into me with its thousands upon thousands of stars. I had never seen the sky this beautiful. I had never seen anything like this all my life. Taking a few steps back, I seated myself on a stone that stood like a miniature plateau above the surrounding grass. I had been told this would be the best spot to see the sky tonight, and I had not been told a lie. I looked straight up so that the rest of the Earth escaped my view, so that there would be nothing but the endless void above me. It would have been intimidating, if not for the pure beauty of the stars that pierced through the dark of night. I slowly looked down upon the town, away from the harsh contrast of black and white to instead a blur of color. Children dashed in small circles around their parents, women danced across the square wearing vibrant dresses, men sat to the side as they drank, made cheerful conversation, and smiled, admiring the festival around them just as I was from the top of my overlook, hidden by the night. I didn t want to leave. This was my new favorite location in town. Unfortunately, I didn t want to miss the festival either. The sounds of the celebration managed to lure me away. Beginning my descent, I could hear the music grow louder and louder. I slid down the earthen wall I had strolled by most days of my life, but only climbed for the first time this evening. Jacob Riis How the Other Half Lives Essay Jacob Riis How the Other Half Lives In How the Other Half Lives, the author Jacob Riis sheds light on the darker side of tenant housing and urban dwellers. His journalism and photographs of the conditions of the tenant housing helped led the way of reformation in the slums of New York. His research opened the eyes of many Americans to the darker side of the nation s lower class. In addition, many of the tenants were working and needed to be close to where they worked. The costs of living in these tenement houses were ridiculously high for the condition and size of the rooms. Riis described how some Italians were given board as long as the Italian made enough ash barrels to feed him, which unfortunately caused many Italians to get use to free rent and thus many were driven to another dump. Riis did not care much for the Italians, because of their lack of focus and life style. One of the well known tenement housing the Bend was labeled as one of the bad tenement houses, and even the optimists agreed. It was said that the more you had done the less it has seemed to accomplish in the way of real relief (p 46). With such increase in population in certain tenement housing the sanitary policeman would locate the bulk of his four hundred, and the sanitary reformer gives up the task in despair (p. 55). It started back in 7000 BC with the Indus Valley Civilization. In Greece, the Aristotle and Hippocrates wrote about treating decayed teeth and extracted the teeth to keep the pain away. They used forceps to perform the procedure. By the 1700s dentistry has become more known as a profession. A French surgeon name Pierre Fauchard came up with the idea of tooth filling and the use of prostheses (to restore missing parts of teeth and the structures of the jaw and palate.) He also found that the acids from sugar leads to tooth decay. Later, Baltimore College of Dental was founded as the first dental college in 1840. Twenty years later, the American Dental Association was created. In 1869, the first African American to earn a dental degree and the first female dental assistance was in 1885. Americans didn t start frequently brushing their teeth until after World War II. The soldiers who went overseas came back and brought the knowledge of dental hygiene back to the United States. Colgate produced the first tube of toothpaste in 1873. 12 years later Hiram Nicholas Wadsworth created the first tooth brush in America. In 1939, the electric tooth brush was created in Switzerland. Robert Welch Leadership When people sign up for the ministry; or better stated, when people are called into the ministry, they often assume that most of their time will be spent studying the bible, conversing with lost souls about the good news of Jesus and seeking God in prayer. However, successful ministers and ministries are the result of effectively executed administrative duties. According to Robert Welch and his book Church Administration, a study of pastors revealed, about 57 percent of their ministry was tied up in strictly nonpastoral administrative duties. 1 What is more, many ministers admitted, counseling, visitation, family time, prayer and personal devotions suffer in too many cases. 2 Is this simply a case of misguided expectations, poor leadership ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I remember when I was given my first ministry leadership opportunity, there were barely twenty people to manage and that was only for one summer. However, in my current setting, there are hundreds of people that I am responsible. To help with this situation, Welch points to the story of Moses and Jethro as an example of a wise and foolish leader. Moses attempted to manage everyone alone (being foolish) and his wise father in law recommends that he administers differently by appointing leaders of 100s, 50s, 10s, and so on. What is more, Welch points out an interesting fact of that God chose significant leaders who were prepared for the task of leadership and organization. 4 There is great importance to recognize God s selection of people for the work and the connection between leadership and organization. Perhaps as leaders become more organized their leadership grows; and vice versa. Also, the Apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 12 about God giving the church different leadership roles; one of which is administrations.5 Therefore, the role of administration is from God and necessary for a church to thrive; as well as grow into what Jesus intends it to be. Also, my role is not to unload the needs of administration onto someone else, but rather see administration as a primary function of my role within the church. Yet what exactly is administration within the context of the local church? At a glance, administration seems to be the function of a church secretary or assistant pastor rather than a role every leader plays. However, this assumption is misguided because administration is leadership. Welch eloquently states administration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will examine the main writer of the Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson and look at the sources he used to begin our country. If Thomas Jefferson was a student at the United States Sergeant Major Academy, and he submitted his Declaration of Independence to turn it in would he pass? Were our founding fathers even great thinkers or were they just taking the advice of someone else and putting it to use? The ideas and political thought that inspired the historic Declaration of Independence did not extemporaneously pop into Thomas Jefferson s head, but rather were a product of English literature. Start of Independence The Declaration of Independence purpose was to demonstrate the accretion of power by the Continental Congress as a concomitant to the drive for separation from the British Empire. Earlier in 1765, the continental congress met to directly petition the two houses of the British Parliament. The Stamp Act Congress was the first major meeting of the Continental Congress. In 1774, the King himself would be the target of a more direct approach by the Congress. Cultural truths are principles, values, or standards important to a group of people, which display moral behaviors that are respected and immoral actions that are scorned at. Also, cultural truths are norms in a society that you are born into and are expected to do daily because they shape the lifestyle of a group. For example, during the Anglo Saxon period, there were a number of cultural truths that were applied to everyday actions and attitudes. An epic poem, composed based on the Anglo Saxon period called Beowulf, written by an unknown author translated by Seamus Heaney, depicts many of the cultural values of the time period. In the poem, is it revealed that all the cultural values in the Anglo Saxon culture are developed from the idea of a warrior culture. The epic poem is about a hero named Beowulf from the Geats tribe who goes off and helps Hrothgar and the Danes defeat a monster, Grendel, who attacks their mead hall. Before Beowulf meets his fate he fights three monsters, which includes Grendel, to protect the lives of people in two different tribes. Within the epic poem Beowulf, there are several of cultural values presented and focused on such as, courage in battle, fidelity to one s word, and loyalty to kinsmen, which are all demonstrated by Beowulf. To begin, a cultural truth admired by the Anglo Saxon is courage in battle because it is a trait of a good warrior in the eyes of Anglo Saxon people. Courage in battle is the ability to not be afraid of the enemy, be strong, and brave. Beowulf shows his above average strength and courage in battle when he is going to battle Grendel: When it comes to battle, I count myself/ as dangerous any day as Grendel,/ ... No weapons, therefore,/ for either this night: unarmed he shall face me/ if face me he dares (Beowulf 677 685). In this quote Beowulf states and declares his abandonment of weapons, as well as his belief that he is as strong as Grendel, so he will fight him without a weapon. Too Much Crying isn t a Good Thing Crying is undoubtedly one of the most common humanistic features when it comes to the emotions of the average person, due to the fact that every human being has shed tears for which ever reasons their emotions led them to. However, crying can also be the result of many other issues and can indicate a serious problem if done continuously and drastically to the point where it becomes a serious concern. In adolescents, it is more normal to cry as the child may not understand or know what to do about a situation, leaving them flustered, agitated, sad, angry, or any negative emotion causing them to cry. With these things being said, when crying is understood to be the result of an underlying deep rooted issue, the next step is to understand the enforcer that is keeping the behavior of crying continuous and figure out exactly how to decrease it to the point of normality. Crying has also yet to be examined systematically in isolation from other problem behavior, such as aggression or tantrums, during functional analyses (Hanley, Iwata, McCord, 2003). Identification of variables that may maintain crying is especially important for populations who are susceptible to psychiatric interventions (e.g., individuals who have intellectual disabilities and communication deficits).
