Jasna Góra is the most famous shrine in Poland dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Founded in 1382 by Pauline monks, it contains Poland's most important icon of the Virgin Mary known as the Black Madonna of Czestochowa. The monastery has been a major pilgrimage site for hundreds of years, housing valuable artwork including the trophies of Polish kings, medieval weapons, and patriotic jewelry from the 19th-20th centuries.
