2. Location
• The baroque Catherine Palace, the favourite summer residence

Rastrelli in 1755, accommodated the Amber Room for years.
• Tsar Nicolas II spent his last days as Russian ruler at
Tsarskoye Selo.
• It’s one of the most popular tourist attractions in
St. Petersburg.
3. Short description
• The amber ornamentation of this centerpiece of the Catherine
Palace, missing since 1945, is now being reconstructed by
Russian gem carvers.
• Preserved photographs and archives help the roughly 40
experts to fashion the barely palm- sized thin amber pieces to
match the original in shape and colour and to carve ornaments.
• They reconstruct the legendary work of art like a huge puzzle
from over half a million pieces of amber.
• Of 1 kg amber, only 150 g are usable.

• See a unique culture, which includes some traditions of
European and Russian cultures

Eighth Wonder of the World.
