3. Memory loss, also can be referred to as Amnesia
is the Inability to remember events for a period of
time, often due to brain injury, illness, or the
effects of drugs or alcohol. Individuals can only
remember new information for a matter of
minutes.
What is memory loss?
4. Connection
Leonard:
● Suffers from untreatable memory loss
because of a brain injury
● Can only recall details of life before his
wife's murder
● Only remembers new information for up
to 15 minutes
● Forgets where he is going and why
5. Connection
He needs to find the man who raped and
killed his wife so he
● Tattoos main clues such as the killer's
name, car plate #, and dates
● Uses a notepad to remember where he
lives, where he is going and why
● Takes polaroid pictures of people he
interacts with and a note about them
● Takes pictures of his belongings so no
one can scam him
6. Connection
Leonard was slowly forgetting who he
was. This was his most important tattoo.
“Remember sammy jankis”, he has
flashback about this elderly couple and
sammy was the patient who got into a
horrible accident and lost his memory as
well but later in the movie we find out
who sammy really is.
7. Dialogue
● Leonard: OK, so what am
I doing?
Leonard: Oh, I'm chasing
this guy.
Leonard: No, he's chasing
me.
● Leonard: Just because there are Things I
don't remember doesn't make my actions
meaningless.
8. Many of his lifetime
friends take
advantage of him.
She is heard saying
spiteful things
toward him knowing
he will not
remember.
9. I chose ‘momento’ because it connects psychology to a
murder. The actor Guy Pearce who plays the main character
did a good job on this act. It really explains the severity in
memory loss. Sammy’s wife dies and it shows how quickly
this made him very depressed, he didn’t know if his wife was
alive or not because he forgot. He later dies lonely and
depressed waiting for his wife.
