The Benefits of Responsible Human Cloning Essay
The Benefits of Responsible Human Cloning
On an unremarkable afternoon in July of 1996, in an unremarkable shed in Scotland, a lamb was
born. This lamb was to spark a controversy that would be one of the defining arguments of this
era. This lamb, simply named Dolly (after Dolly Parton in reference to the mammary cell used as
the donor), was the first clone to be born using specialized cells from an adult mammal.
The fact that the lamb was cloned from these specialized cells such as muscle cells, liver cells, or
mammary cells is what made this discovery of such importance. Before this, scientists had thought
that these cells had lost their ability to grow into a new embryo. They had already cloned embryos,
but this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thousands of lives could be saved.
In recent months, the story of this event has swamped the news media. Although many opinions
have been expressed, finding anyone who is stating the facts of the issue and not just venting his
fears and misconceptions has become extremely difficult. I n fact, despite the enormous controversy
surrounding the science, many benefits exist for mankind because of its discovery, and the
continued support for the advancement of the science far outweighs any disadvantages that may
arise. We cannot afford to l et our emotional biases deter us from allowing this research to continue.
To better understand why this is, one must look at the arguments and misconceptions most
commonly associated with those opposed to cloning.
Cloning is immoral.
As the procedure stands now, the cloning of humans is immoral. The procedure used has a low
success rate and disfiguration and death is not uncommon, but that is because it has only been
developed to be used on animals, with which these types of losse s are far more acceptable. All
reasonable scientists agree that the process should not even be attempted until the process is
refined to meet acceptable success rates and that those higher success rates will be feasible in the
near future.

Impressionism vs. Cubism Essay
Impressionism vs. Cubism
Art, according to Webster s Dictionary, is a human skill of expression of other objects by
painting, drawing, and sculpture. People have used art as a form of expression for a long time.
From the Mesopotamian era to the Classical Greeks and the present. Art is expressed in many
different ways and styles, and is rapidly changing, one style replacing another. Impressionism and
Cubism broke away from the traditional style of painting. They were both looking for a new way
to express everyday life. Time is an important tool that is used in Cubism as well as Impressionism.
This element is expressed in Claude Monet s Sunrise and Pablo Picasso s Man with a Violin in
different ways. Impressionists works ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is composed of geometrical shapes, abstraction and time. There are no specific colors or
objects used. Cubists were looking for a different way to express human form as well as art in
general. They provided what we could almost call a God s eye view of reality: every aspect of
the whole subject, seen simultaneously in a single dimension. According to Fiero, the Cubist
image, conceived as if one were moving around, above, and below the subject and even
perceiving it from within, appropriated the fourth dimension time itself. In a sense, Cubism is
four dimensional: depth, height, breath, and time, but seen all at once. It displays different
viewpoints from different aspects. The object is taken and looked at in many perspectives and is
represented that way on the canvas. Monet s painting Sunrise displays vivid color, which is
commonly used among impressionists. The painting is of the sun rising over the lake, over
looking the bay and the boats within. Sunrise is a patently a seascape; but the painting says more
about how one sees than about what one sees. It transcribes the fleeting effects of light and the
changing atmosphere of water and air into a tissue of small dots and streaks of color the elements
of pure perception (Fiero 114). This painting is typical of its style because it captures light at that
moment. The sun is rising and its color is projected to everything in its path. Monet seems to
capture this

Essay On Salem Witch Trials Vs Mccarthyism
The Salem Witch Trials and McCarthyism went down the same road. They both named some
names of people who were not even apart of the communist party, nor were they witches. Both
events did not have proof of other people being apart of these groups either. After awhile people
started resisting and stopped the trials. The fact that both events named off random people
shows that the events went off the same idea and started the same way. During the Witch Trials
two little girls named Abigail and Betty started having weird fits. When a doctor blamed the
supernatural, Reverend Parris came in the investigation the girls. After a while of Parris talking
to the girls they started to list off names. The names the two listed off were Sarah Good, Goody
Osburn, Bridget Bishop, George Jacobs, Goody Howe, Martha Bellows, Goody Sibber, Alice
Barrow, Goody Hawkins, Goody Bibber, Goody Booth . This started a witch hunt, they found
these people and asked them if they knew anymore names of witches. In McCarthyism there was a
Hollywood director named Elia Kazan . He was apart of the communist party for a while, once he
was found out he was questioned about any... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the witch hunt trials you could not prove to anyone that someone is a witch. It got to the point
where they had to stop using Spectral Evidence so they do not get so many accusations. The only
way they believed them is if they said She cursed me with witchcraft . Since you can not see
witchcraft, how can you believe it? They had to take their word for it because they did not want
to be accused. McCarthyism did the same thing. During a speech in Wheeling, McCarthy came
on stage and said he had a list of 205 names of communists in the Secretary of State. Later after
the speech, he wrote a letter to president Truman and the list of 205 went down to 57. The names
listed probably were not even true. There was no evidence that led him to believe that they were

Racism In Beth Macy s Truevine
In the book Truevine, written by Beth Macy, the story of two Albino Brothers named George and
Willie who were kidnapped by Candy Shelton, a circus bounty hunter, and separated from their
mother for decades. After eventually being reunited twice, and several court cases after, they lived
happily together as a family. Consequently, the central theme and key aspect discussed throughout
the length of this book would be how detrimental racismwas to black folks during this era, the Jim
Crow Era. Racism not only contributed to the mistreatment, exploitation and perjury of the Muse
Brothers, but to the suffering and deaths of countless blacks nationally. Beth Macy includes a lot of

144). This statement shows how forms of racism contributed to the abusive of the boys, and
served to the self interest of the oppressors. To portray the boys as anything other than human,
and justify it with science goes to show how insensitive and disrespectful blacks were treated.
Even in the circus for that matter, black performers were treated unfairly. It was only when
George and Willie became really popular, is when they were given equitable treatment. More
importantly, a segment of this story that really places emphasis on the role racism had in lives of
black people would be the custody battle Harriet had to get her boys out of the circus. As
Malcom X said The most disrespected people in America is the black woman . That quote
definitely applies to this situation the fact that a mother had to put up a fight twice to win her
boys back is ridiculous. In the case of Harriet Muse vs. George and Willie Muse, Harriet
petitioned a Roanoke court to have her son declared practically imbeciles (385). This was
Harriet s second time going to court with the boy s circus managers of who made the boys look
like a fool and refused to pay them or their mother. Fortunately, she won the case because of her
good lawyer Austin, the same cannot be said for all the black

Homeland Security And Infrastructure (NPPD)
When people think of Homeland Security most people think of Border Protection, Immigration
agents, TSA, and maybe FEMA but there are many more aspects of Homeland Security which often
get overlooked. When the Department of Homeland Security was established in 2002, there were
22 different Federal agencies which were combined and absorbed into this one department. This
consolidation was intended to streamline the exchange of information and cooperative efforts
towards the mission of securing this nation. This vision of cooperation has helped create a safer
environment in the United States, and helped prepare emergency personnel in the detection,
prevention, and response to both natural and man made disasters. As part of the cooperative effort...

Picture the face of a student receiving a research paper, not to thrilling, some will start sooner than
others but everyone must start their research papers somehow and some way. Google means to
search and now in days it can be used for browsing, personal computing, email, and broadband
networking (Krazit). Years ago when internetand Google did not exist students actually went to the
library to not only study but to get and look through books. That is how students got their research
for papers, while students today use the internet and mostly Google. Now when students go to the
library they use it for a study area and internet access. Walking into the library ... Show more

The final stakeholder could be students who attend college now. The students now want the same
thing as the students back then, to get good grades and study hard. Students now believe that
libraries are used for the internet and a quiet place to study. Most students only use library
databases if it is required by the teacher. Students today would say that Google is a reliable source
and that it is easier to use than databases. Current students have more available options than the
other stakeholders because they are a part of the new generation. Like the other stakeholders,
students still use the library even with the technology changing. Jenny Platt is currently attending
CSU and is in the class of 2015. She doesn t go to the library but if she did she said she would get
on her computer and go to google to start her research. She said she does not check books out
from the library because the internet is easier (Platt). Platt says The library has better
information but Google is just faster and more convenient. After taking a survey on the
Facebook page for the class of 2015, at CSU, the students were more likely to start their research by
using google instead of library databases and books. Out of the 32 students who responded, 27 said

In the film The Talented Mr. Ripley, director Anthony Minghella uses the portrayed actions of Tom
Ripley to accentuate the notion that men would rather sin to become a false somebody rather than
return to their antecedent real nothingness. The film opens with Mr. Ripley s first lie as he is playing
the piano at a luncheon in the place of someone else. Immediately after his performance, he
returns the Princeton University blazer that he was wearing to its rightful owner and returns to
work as a bathroom assistant. Early in the movie, the viewer sees that Tom would rather lie about
who he is to get a taste of the limelight instead of stay devoted to his humble line of work. This
instance is not immensely extreme because most people would trade the task of brushing rich,
pompous men s jackets for the opportunity to show off raw talent. Here, Tom is willing to fake and
lie about who he is as long as it delivers him from the simple life that he currently has and this
theme is transcended throughout

Gender Roles Of Civic Duties And Raising Children
Throughout Vibia Perpetua s life, Roman society expected her to follow structured gender roles of
civic duties and raising children in her community because she was female. Perpetua defied the
expectations placed upon her since birth by converting to Christianity and used the freedom of the
Christian religion to show her independence and create her own role as a woman. This essay will
analyze Perpetua s defiance of the gender expectations of civic hood and motherhood of the Roman
community, and how the Christian community allowed her to define her own identity as a woman
on her own terms in conflicting societies.
In Perpetua s time, the role of a woman within the Roman culture was determined narrowly
against gendered expectations. Early Roman society families had a patriarchal structure meaning
the father was the head of the family. The strongest tie within the family was that between a
father and a daughter. Daughters were expected to [forge] political and social ties for fathers
(Salisbury 6). A Roman daughter was favored the most; they received the best education
overseen by their fathers. The purpose of a strong education was to pass on to their sons the
values of Rome as well as help her to be a good mother in the future (Salisbury 7). One expectation
of a woman in the Roman culture was reproduction in order to continue lineage. In addition to
structured family and social rules, Roman women joined cults with specific rituals for females to
perform. A woman s role

The Main Features Of A Bureaucracy And The Scientific...
King and Lawley (2013, p.601) stated that rationalisation can be defined as increasing the efficiency
and reducing costs within a business, this idea incorporates the aspects of a bureaucracy and the
scientific design of work). Within a rational organisation, bureaucracies are created through the
implementation of policies and procedures which makes the organisation standardised, predictable
and efficient. Organisations such as Junction hotel might consider adopting the key features of
rationalisation, for example within a bureaucracy a hierarchy is created, this shows clear lines of
communication within departments. King and Lawley (2013) show that within Junction hotel the
organisational structure lacks span of control as Linda Wilkinson is in charge of 34 employees This
was improved by making the span of control more manageable by delegating control through
management, different departments can be created, within each department there is a head
employee who was in charge of more staff. As an organisation grows, the number of employee s
increases, therefore Fayols five functions of management are implemented through impersonal
control rather than direct face to face control. In contrast to rationalisation, King and Lawley
(2013) describe the social organisation as a belief that the key factors in shaping an individual
within the workplace are the social interactions between people. King and Lawley (2013) state that
the findings from Hawthorne studies have been credited

Web Architecture And Components That Enable Internet And...
Unit 28 Website Production Assignment 1
Alex Aricci 2nd October 2014
P1
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to outline the web architecture and components that enable internet and
web functionality.
Internet Service Providers (ISP)
ISPs are the companies which own or rent the infrastructure which provides internet access to its
customers for a fee. ISPs often offer different services at different price points with more
expensive ones often having higher bandwidth and download limits (or no download limits at all)
as well as sometimes providing phone and digital TV services (for instance, Sky, Virgin, BT)
although available services vary locally due to differences in infrastructure.
Web Hosting Services
Web hosting services provide space and bandwidth on the internet for people to make their
websites available online. When a web page is requested the web host sends a web page to someone
trying to access it via a server.
Domain Structure
The Domain Name system is a system on the internet used to translate IP addresses (long string of
numbers that describe the location of a resource on the internet) into recognisable names, this
makes it easier for humans to navigate the internet as it is much easier to remember the name of a
website than to remember its I.P. address. It is a hierarchical system that points users to various
resources, computers or services on the internet, such as images or videos.

Scales of Construct for Human Behavior
Research psychologists developed scales of the construct to have a better understanding of the
human behavior. Scales such as the James internal external locus of control scale, Reid Ware s three
factor internal external scale, multidimensional multiattributional causality scale, the Nowicki Duke
scale(Jerry), Rotter s internal external locus of controlscale, and Levenson s IPC Scale were widely
used in research, with the latter the most commonly used measure (Halpert).
Rotter developed the internal external, which refers to the extent to which individuals believe
their actions are controlled by their behavior, capacities, skills etc. Levenson then created a
developed scale of Rotter s. A study suggested that it would be better to use Levenson s scale over
Rotter s due to the latter s lack of performance (James r. Lumpkin).
Questions were raised concerning the validity and reliability of each scale. Sapp and Harrod
argued that Levenson s locus of control scale was reliable and valid but that other researchers
should also be conducted on other scales. They also argued that the broadness of the construct
enables other studies to keep questioning its validity (Sapp and Harrod).
Loci of control scales were applied in conducting many psychological researches in a variety of
fields such as heath, parental, academic, age specific, cultural, ethical etc. Results of the studies
proved the importance of the construct and the scales used to measure it.
Risk taking was also

Importance Of Sports In Arthur Ashe s Days Of Grace

last days writing his memoir, Days of Grace. In the chapter My Dear Camera, Ashe writes to his
daughter giving her advice for a future without her father, and in that advice suggests that she
finds a couple life sports . Another author, David Halberstam, writes of the importance of sports in
his book The Teammates, describing the bond and friendship that baseball players Ted Williams,
Dom DiMaggio, Bobby Doerr, and John Pesky had throughout their baseball careers as well as
after their baseball careers were over. In both of these quotes, Ashe and Halberstam demonstrate...

own lives. Ashe s quote states the comfort and pleasure for life sports provide outright, but the
context of the quote shows how important it is to find a life sport. Ashe could have been doing
anything in his last years, and he chose to write a message to his daughter giving her advice and
including how important sports are life long. Meanwhile, Halberstam does this through the
example of Williams, Doerr, DiMaggio, and Pesky and how the bond and character traits they
took away from their baseball careers would provide comfort even in times of hardship.
Halberstam s quote displays the pleasure that these baseball players got from the game, and how that
pleasure lasted life long. Both Ashe and Halberstam show that the internal qualities that a life sport
provides are more important than the wins or championships that come from playing

Lord Of The Flies Rhetorical Analysis
Many people in this world is civilized from rules the government has created. Without these rules
it would be like a barbaric world where everyone has to find their own food for survival. When
people had the idea of a making rules to follow it started a society that needs rules to be followed
in order to get anything done. With the creation of rules people can get more things done with
structure of rules. Without these rules everyone will act more savagethan the normal person acts
today. In Lord of the Flies, William Goldinguses the conflict to show that Ralph is civilized, and
that Jack is showing signs of savagery. Ralph being civilized could help him be more alarmed
about what goes around him and make better decisions faster. When Ralph was voted leader he
wanted first to make rules for everyone on the island to follow. Making rules and choosing a leader
like a government is being more civilized compared to just huntingfor meat. Rules is a great way
to start of being leader of a group of young kids. When everyone was talking at once he thought
of the rule. The rule was, I ll give the conch to the next person to speak he can hold it when he is
speaking (Golding 33). This rule also said that only Ralph could interrupt because he was the
chief. By Ralph setting these rules it shows a governmental state which is more civilized. In some
countries, like the U.S.A., the people are allowed to vote for their leader. Ralph voluntarily said,

Positive Aspects Of Becoming A President
If I were to become president, right when I get into office, I would do is make some adjustments
to our education pricing. First, I would make college not so high priced, meaning not such a
high price for books and admission. Second, I would try to get private schools to not pay so
much, and since most private or charter schools manufacture their own clothes, I would also try
to get them to not make the guardian pay so much for them. The very next thing I would do is I
would set up multiple stations in every state for kids and adults to come to and get food and or
shelter. Then I would hire people to go state to state picking up the people (mostly kids) that just
want a home and we will ask them do you want to be in foster care so you can

Importance Of Lifespan Psychology In Nursing
Developmental psychologists study changes in Lifespan Development that apply intermediately to
health care. Lifespan Developmental psychology is the focus on human growth and changes across
the lifespan, and how and why human beings change over the course of their life (Santrock).
Nurses in particular are call upon for much more to administer a medicine or do a treatment. There
is an important role in understanding the relationship between a patient s medical and
psychological needs (Potter Perry). The reason being that lifespan developmental psychology, is a
critical component to the training of every nurse. The nursing fields applies to all areas of
Lifespan Development, and nurses work in a setting where they are required to work and interact
with other professionals in a effort to bring the best quality of care to their patients. This involves
the need for the full understanding how or why a person may behave in any given situation. With
the knowledge of psychologynurses will learn to interact with patient all based on different factors
such as gender and age. If two patients were undergoing the same procedure, the patient who is
younger could be more afraid than the adult (Chron.com). Difficulties in understanding the true
meaning of their illness. Nurses must use this broad range of psychological knowledge in order to
relate to younger or older patients, improving the nurse pt relationship; allowing open interaction in

Tijuana River Wetlands
Background: Geology The Tijuana National Estuarine Research Reserve, administered by the
U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service and California Department of Parks and Recreation, is the
southwestern most nature reserve in the continental United States. It is bordered by Mexico and
the city of Tijuana on the south, the Pacific Ocean on the west, the city of Imperial Beach (the
southwestern most city in the continental U.S.), the U.S. Navy Auxiliary Landing Field on the
north, and South San Diego on the East. The estuary itself extends well into Mexico. The
Tijuana River drains a watershed of 1,735 square miles. Three fourths of this watershed is in
Mexico. The reserve is located on 2,500 acres of wetlands and coastal dunes. Of these acres, 1,660

has been in geologic development since the late Cenozoic Era, approximately 65 million years
ago (Schoenherr, 59). As continental drift carried the North American continent westward,
tectonic uplift raised the shore line several hundred feet above the current sea levels. Over time,
the river wore through the uplifted terraces, though the narrowness of the floodplain indicates
that the flow was generally not large. In the Holocene Epoch(200,000 years ago), as the polar caps
melted and the sea rose, the exposed continental shelf was reclaimed by the ocean. As the ocean
waters rose, rivers were covered and lagoons were formed as sandy barriers formed deposited by
long shore drift

Analysis of 3m Command
Executive Summary
3M Singapore controls many market leading brands in their various markets, such as Post ItВ®,
ScotchВ® Tapes, Scotch BriteВ® and Commandв„ў.In this report, we will be focusing on the
brand Commandв„ў.We aim to address the problem of the erosion of Commandв„ў s competitive
advantage in its increasingly competitive industry by providing improved/new BTL strategies
which Command can undertake.
Based on our survey, there are 2 interesting findings which we aim to tackle through our
recommendations. The first of which is that consumers could not differentiate Commandв„ў from
3M. In other words, they viewed Commandв„ў s products as 3M hooks rather than Commandв„ў

Leadership Studies Minor At Baylor University
The Culmination of my Leadership Studies Minor The Leadership Studies Minor at Baylor
University provides students with the opportunity to learn about leadership in ways that will be
useful in their vocation. Classes in this minor are designed to teach students about the theoretical
and practical uses of leadershipthat are relevant to the work force today. The leadership courses I
have taken at Baylor and my time as part of the Leadership Living Learning Center, better known
as LEAD, has shaped my opinion of the importance of the Leadership Studies Minor. This paper
will examine how the Leadership Studies Minor helped me learn about myself as a leader and
guided me to pursue my passions in the next chapter of my life. In my first semester at Baylor I
was forced to quickly adapt to both the pace of college classes and the demands of LEAD. My
freshman year in LEAD fundamentally changed my view of leadership, specifically how I could
be a leader in situations that I hadn t been before. Coming into college my previous leadership
experience was limited to being the captain of the tennis team at my high school and the oldest of
seven in my family. These roles were similar in that because I had the most authority, based on
skill for the tennis team and seniority over my siblings, I felt comfortable in a leadership position.
I quickly learned as part of the LEAD program and in my first leadership course, Introduction to
Leadership, that being a leader is much more than being

Louis Althusser s Song All About That Bass
Meghan Trainor made headlines with her earworm hit All About That Bass. Many critics
praised the song for its message on body positivity, however, a closer look at the lyrics reveals
the song is not as positive as the general public has been led to believe. Much like John Fiske s
analysis of a news report, one can use Louis Althusser s technique to expose the bias of All
About the Bass and reveal just how the listeners of this song are being hailed. Throughout most
of the song, Trainor claims she is all about that bass, no treble, effectively creating a binary the
listener must use to categorize themselves. In order to choose a side, one must first learn what
Trainor defines as bass and treble. She answers this question with in the first chorus, stating that
she is not a size two and has that boom boom that all the boys chase. One can conclude that the
bass Trainor is all about is being a woman who is a bit more curvaceous than women who are
more petite, who Trainor believes to be treble. The repeated efforts of all about that bass is lead to
hail the listeners, particularly large women of all backgrounds, that they are more beautiful than
those who are skinner. In fact, by stating this, Trainor is drawing attention to the interpellation...

Comparison and Analysis of the Influence the Characters of...
Sexual tension leads to a highly charged, dramatic demise for Blanche and Eddie
The characters of Blanche and Eddie are closely linked by several factors, including the reasons
behind their cantankerous endings in the plays A Streetcar Named Desire and A View from the
Bridge . Williams and Miller characterize Blanche and Eddie through their sexuality, which is a very
important theme in both plays.
Both characters show traces of mental instability; Blanche perhaps more so than Eddie, as
throughout the play there are constant reminders to the audience that Blanche s already feeble
mental state is deteriorating. For example, when Blanche recalls the death of her young husband ,
Tennessee Williams cleverly has the music of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately as they are both strong characters, one of the two has to come out a victor of their
rivalry. Stanley is strong but Blanche successfully establishes a foothold in his house during the
first third of the play and even shames him into acting somewhat sheepishly by the end of scene
one. However, Blanche s ascendancy does not last long and eventually we see Stanley regain his
primitive masculine supremacy. This then progresses towards the end of the play, to complete
lack of respect for Blanche herself, as in scene ten a drunk Stanley rapes her while her sister is in
hospital; an unpleasant victory over a weakened Blanche is the very peak of tension between the
two.
The main tension experienced in A View from the Bridge is due to the great contrast between how
Eddie sees Catherine, and how she sees him. In Eddie s world, he imagines protecting Catherine
from marriage or any male relationship and wants her for himself. While Eddie wavers and
switches between communal and state laws and cultures to discriminate against Rodolpho, his
motivations do not change, regardless of the fact it is often at the expense of others. Throughout the
play, Miller creates uncomfortable situations for the reader/viewer, caused by the emergence of
Eddie s unusual love for Catherine. This is shown in particular in act one, when Catherine

Musical Analysis Of Fantasia
is the animated musical sequel to its originator in 1940, Fantasia. It was released in December of
1999 and was produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and Walt Disney Pictures. Walt Disney
s brother, Roy E. Disney was the helm of producing it and so was Donald W. Ernst, who co
produced it. The movie includes many celebrities that introduced the live action parts with the
classical musiccounterpart. It took many, many years to get the approval to make the sequel and it
did really well in the box office. But the more important part from this movie is the music behind
it, the music really goes along with all seven of the segments shown and they all have an art style
behind it.
The orchestra behind the film was performed by Chicago Symphony Orchestra and was conducted
by James Levine. The movie contains seven segments and has an important musical piece behind it,
which they are written by somebody significant in the classical music world. Fantasia 2000 opens
with the most famous concert music of all, Beethoven s Symphony No. 5 in C minor. Following
the first film in 1940, this first segment follows abstract images that form the ideas of the heavens,
butterflies, bats, and darkness. The second sequence is Pines of Rome by Ottorino Respighi, which
follows the journey of humpback whale calf as it learns to fly (only because of a supernova). The
whale is separated from its parents, but manages to reunite with the entire school, that ends up

COO Effect
2.3 Effects of Country of Origin on consumers
Several scholars have researched the process of how COO effects impact on consumer s
perceptions, product evaluations and purchase intensions. It can be explained by the theory of Halo
Effect ; Summary Construct and Combined Halo and Summary Construct .
2.3.1 Halo Effect Model
Han (1989) examine the role of COO image in consumer evaluations of televisions and automobiles.
He suggests that when consumers are not familiar with the product s intrinsic cues, they tend to
utilize COO cue as a halo from which consumers can infer product attributes and quality in order to

The more additional product information that are presented, the weaker COO effects on
consumers product evaluations. If consumers have a source country of the product as a single
cue, all perceptions and characteristics about the product can only be inferred on the basis of
COO image (Han, 1989). However, if COO together with other extrinsic cues such as price, brand
are presented, a product s COO effect on consumer purchasing decisions will be diluted since more
marketing stimulus as reliable information input are conducted into consumers information
processing (Elliot and Cameron, 1994; Jaffe Nebenzahl, 2001; Kalicharan, 2014). The COO may be
an important element in the perceptions consumers have of products and services especially where
little other information is known.

evaluation of specific product attributes; whereas less experienced consumers rely on the country of

Essay Of Prenatal Screening In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
In her novel, Frankenstein, Mary Shelley warns of the boundaries of scientific exploration. Victor
Frankenstein, a brilliant scientist, attempts to play God in resurrecting a corpse and creating new
life. This has disastrous effects which include the death of many characters throughout the novel.
All told, the story provides a cautionary tale of the attempts to play God in regards to scientific
advancement. This raises the question of how far is too far in terms of scientific exploration. With
the increasing popularity of eugenics in regards to prenatal screening, one can t help but wonder, is
this the dangerous idea of playing God that Shelley warned us about? One of the most common

During IVF, the egg is typically fertilized in a lab before being implanted into the uterus. Before
transferring the embryo into the uterus, some fertility clinics offer patients the option of choosing
what sex embryo they want. Although IVF is more commonly used for families struggling with

seems both futuristic and controversial but Codington Lacerte argues that prenatal sex selection

a sex for their child, parents aren t really damaging society. However, by giving parents the ability

In countries where sex selection is common, gender biases are already skewing the sex. According

Reentry Is The Process Of Returning
Reentry is the process of returning. The term typically refers to a person who leaves their home
environment and after a period of time, returns to that home environment. The majority of reentry
literature finds itself within the field of cultural geography. It considers the reentry process for the
sojourner, the missionary, the tourist, and the student on a study abroad program. The term, reentry,
initially stems from the process of returning to Earth from space, and was utilized in reference to
the astronaut training program (Becker, 1961). The majority of reentry literature focuses on cultural
repatriates or sojourners, and those who have spent significant time, typically longer than six
months, outside of their home environment, and includes students in study abroad programs, Peace
Corps volunteers and missionaries (Adler, 1981; Sussman, 1986; Suzkudlarek, 2010; Ward
Kennedy, 1993; Ward Kennedy, 1994). Reentry literature has expanded to encompass a variety of
contexts, including prisoners who finish their sentence and return to society, soldiers who return
from war or combat training, domestic or international tourists, and people returning from
expeditions. In order to fully understand the bigger picture of reentry, this paper considers reentry
from various lenses and fields of discipline. More so, the psychological, sociological, cultural,

Industry Information Key economic factors Coffee consumption in the US and Europe equals
approximately one third of the tap water consumed annually, with annual production of
approximately seven million tons estimated in 2010 (http://www.coffeefacts.com). Worldwide,
nearly 25 million small producers derive their income from coffee; the economies of Africa,
Indonesia, and South and Central America are especially dependent on coffee production. The
majority of this production takes place in Brazil, where approximately five million people are
involved in the cultivation and harvest of over 5 billion coffee plants without the aid of modern
machinery. (Rice, 2003, p. 228). By 2003, the number of retail specialty coffee shops, cafes,
kiosks, coffee carts, and roasters in the United States reached over 17,000, equating to nearly $9
billion in sales. According to the Specialty Coffee Association of America, 16 percent of adults
in the United States drink coffee from one of these specialty outlets daily. ( Organo Gold , 2008).
The price of coffee is impacted by several factors. Meteorological events can affect the quality of a

Frankenstein Desire For Knowledge
In Frankenstein written by Mary Shelly, Victor, and the monster share similarities driven by their
thirst for knowledge. It evokes powerful feelings of hatreFld against the other s existence,
eventually leading to their self destruction. Moreover, the pursuit of knowledge causes them to live
very lonely lives. Thus, Victor constantly longs for his family and friend s affection while the
monster implores Victor to create him a partner. By analyzing Victory Frankenstein
and the monster
s desire for knowledge, I aim to lay bare that the two tragic characters in this novel are extremely
similar to one another. Victor Frankenstein s thirst for knowledge results in his mastery of
chemistry and philosophy. His obsession with his research leads him to the idea of playing
God. Frankenstein imagines a new species ... to bless [him] as its creator and source (Shelly 32)
and eventually to renew life where death had ... devoted the body to corruption (Shelly 32).
Frankenstein s combination of a craving for knowledge and his self centered ego to control life
and death gives birth to the monster. This act marks the stage of his downfall. Frankenstein s

Caitlyn Jenner s Courage
Caitlyn Jenner had the courage of a lion when she came out as a woman and accepted the ESPY
Award, but her bravery fails at the thought of spending time in jail. Radar Online, September 8,
2015, reported that Caitlyn s trial is coming and in a worst case scenario, she might be sentenced
to serve some time in jail. Caitlyn talked with Matt Lauer from the Today s Show as they played a
round of golf. But that isn t the most troubling part. She may be charged with misdemeanor
manslaughter. If the conviction sticks, Caitlyn could serve a year in men s county jail. For a
transgender person to there, that would be very frightening. She said they are working on it Caitlyn
Jenner said that she remembers very little about the traffic accident, which

The Elements Of A Great Speech By Martin Luther King Jr.
Life is always easier when there is a way to find the answer. A cake is easier to bake with a recipe
to follow, and a great speech needs a formula or list of aspects to include. Good morning Mrs
Roche and students. For my presentation today I will explore a formula I have created that
contains all the elements of a great speech. I produced this formula while I was studying some of
the work of one of the best speakers and leaders of all time: Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr was an American Baptist Minister, Activist, Humanitarian, and leader in the
African American Civil Rights Movement. He was known for his amazing speaking skills and
visionary speeches, which he used to successfully make a non violent movement against
segregation and injustice during his time. He was a great speaker and a great leader. So what
better of a leader than Martin Luther King Jr to help identify what key aspects need to be put into
the formula. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Martin Luther King s speeches are considered great because he manages to connect with the
audience through their emotional ties to the event he is talking about. In his eulogy for the death of
three girls killed in the bombing of their church he used the words :
These children unoffending, innocent and beautiful were victims of one of the most vicious and
tragic crimes ever perpetuated against humanity , this language both pays respect towards the girls
but also links back to his fight against injustice and this is exactly what the listeners will respond
to. They will be grateful to his kind words but will agree with him that it wasn t fair for the girls to
die so innocent and young, and that they want this to

Mohammad Iqbal (2012) Many pet lovers have struggle when they take care of
their pet/s because pets needs to be given a lot of attention, especially
when it comes to feeding them on time to keep them healthy. It is very hard
for people who spend too much time on their work to be able to take care of
their pet most of the time. However, with the help of the automatic pet
feeder, things will be a lot easier. Pet lovers can avail the facility of
automatic feeding with the arranged feeding schedule or by simply sending SMS
commands to feed into the automatic tool. The SMS feature does not only
control the feed, but it can also be used to check the feeding schedule and
the status of the food on the tool in real time. The tool has an accurate

Ethics And Ethics Of Religion
If you pick up a paper or magazine today most of the articles contain topics involving religion in
the workplace or religion in the US military. It is hard for any Air Force member to go throughout
their career without having to deal with religion in the workplace as a trending topic. After entering
the 21st century religionin the workplace has impacted not only schools, most major cooperation
s (Ludolph, R. C., Wolfe, A. A. (2013) , but the United States military across all the branches of
the uniform service. In this paper I will be using two ethical theories and one ethical perspective
to persuade you into believing that religion has a place in not only in today s military but in every

(Religious Freedom the Military: An Ongoing History. (n.d.). Supervisors and commanders are
often reluctant to raise concerns over the impact of religious practices in today s workplace. The
first amendment to the Constitution, which is part of the Bill of Rights, guarantees freedom of
religion, speech, the press, and assembly. The first amendment provides the following: Congress
shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...
Supporting the right of free expression relates directly to the Air Force core values and the ability
to maintain an effective team. It requires all military members to recognize that individuals within
your workplace and the Air Force community hold diverse beliefs. Airmen are in an environment
where their coworkers subscribe to many different viewpoints, groups, denominations, orders,
affiliations, and persuasions. Within each of these varied expressions, all Air Force members are
able to choose to practice their particular religion, or subscribe to no religious belief at all.
Recognition and application of this right requires you to portray a great deal of respect,
understanding, and support. Religion is often understood as an institutional and organizational
domain, confined and determined by creeds, theologies, and doctrines about man s current and
eternal destiny, his relationship with himself and others

Education Act Of 1944 And The Beginning Of The National...
Education in Great Britain has always been a hot topic for discussion and over the years the
education system has undergone many changes. This has been down to the political party in
power at the time, pressures of a changing society and the subsequent rise and fall of the national
economy. The purpose of this essay is to look at how these factors have affected and developed
secondary educationin Great Britain starting with a brief overview of the pre 1900 s. Moving
through the years in chronological order, the essay will consider various Education Acts and
reports, the effect of two World Wars and the controversial Butler Education Act of 1944 when the
tripartite systemwas introduced. Prior to 1900 secondary education was virtually non existent, the
consensus view at that time was that secondary education was only for boys of the middle and
upper classes. The few schools available were fee paying and therefore only an option to those
who could afford them. This fuelled the gap in social status and in the opinion of Marxists kept
the lower classes in their place so as not to disrupt the economic and social balance. In the 1860 s
there were no grammar schools for girls, however due to a slight change in the views of society
by 1900 eighty girls schools had been created (Stephens, 1998). The 1870 s saw the development
of some of higher grade schools, these had a scientific and technical bias and grants were provided
for those whose pupils were successful in the

The Misunderstood Religion of Islam
Islam is perhaps the supreme misunderstood religion today, among non Muslims and among some
of the Muslims themselves. There are both historical and modern influences that might clarify this
misconception of Islam within certain rings in the West. One should start with the fact that Islam,
represented historically as the Ottoman Empireman Empire, occupied parts of Europe, which had
certainly not occurred to European civilization before. Then there were the Crusades, which was
Christendom attempting to, I believe, execute and impose its religion upon the Middle East. I
deliberately use the phrase Middle East, as the Crusades did not just impact the Muslim population;
the Jews were also in a similar position and were victims of this process. Furthermore, according to
specific groups, the Orthodox Christians were victims as well of those circumstances. Therefore, it
was fundamentally Western Christendom that was the driving factor of the Crusades, which
extended throughout centuries and ended in defeat for the powerful Christian leaders. This had an
impact on the psyche of the Western people and influenced their opinion of civilization. Then, of
course, you had colonialism, which affected both sides and created a situation in which the
antagonism became even more serious. After the colonial period, a key factor that arose concerned
the economic benefits represented by oil, which is considered a gold commodity that is most
essential to manufacturing and industrial

Never Let Me Go Dialectical Journal
Discovery Journal Writing Never Let Me Go Chapter 10 Kathy recalled, Of course, in practice,
especially during the first months, we rarely stepped beyond the confines of the Cottages. We
didn t even walk about the surrounding countryside or wander into the nearby village. I don t
think we were afraid exactly. Unlike Hailsham, the Cottages have no gates or any form of
barriers that kept confined. I don t understand why Kathy and her friends don t go out to explore.
If it wasn t for the fact that they were afraid, then why don t they venture out? What could be the
reasons for them to refrain from doing so? Gates are mainly designed for two reasons. Some
gates are designed to keep people within the confines; others are designed to keep others from
entering. In Never Let Me Go, it may be kind of hard to tell the difference, sometimes. Fences
and barriers appear all over the novel, but the reasons as to why these gates are designed are not
always apparent to us readers (the typical Kathy style).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore the gates go with the last option: to protect the clones from the outside world as well
as to keep them from leaving. However, as they eventually grew older, Kathy and her friends gain
more freedom, physically, that is. The characters exercise freedom by driving, going on several
road trips or adventures. But even with the freedom they gained over time, Kathy and her friends
get the point that there are barriers that you just can t see visually, sometimes. In fact, physical
barriers are actually easier to escape from, unlike the other forms of barricades. At Hailsham, it was
the social barricades that fence in the students their guardians. Whereas at the cottages, it was the
psychological barricades that kept the students away from what was true

How To Put My Incapacitated Dog
On Wednesday, June 18, 2003, I had finalized the decision to put my incapacitated dog to rest. It
became a reality. I clearly remember the warm, breezy day that occurred two weeks ago. As I sat
in the freshly cutgrass of my front yard, I paid no attention to the sounds of the birds that were
singing or the leaves that were dancing on the trees. All that was on my mind was the details of
the last 13 years and remembering the times we shared together. As I kept trying to convince
myself that he would not have to suffer another day from his ailments, I kept thinking of the first
day that he came into my life. I was 15 years old when I got Valen. It was Valentine s Day
in 1990.
Earlier that week my motherwas near Port Jervis, New York on a business trip. She had some free
time before she had to come home to Pennsylvania so she decided to stop at the local SPCA. Her
intentions were to simply look at the animals and then leave. She made her way to the area that
housed the dogs. There she found a shy, but friendly, golden retriever. He was a bit apprehensive at
first, almost as if he was neglected and abused, but it didn t take much of my mom s gentle touch
and her soft, subtle voice before this dog realized she was his savior. She decided that she would
like to adopt this dog however, the policy was strict, and there was a seven day waiting period
before you could adopt an animal. This was in place to allow ample time for the owner to claim
their animals if they got astray. As much as my mom wanted to leave that day with the dog, she
had to wait. It was on Tuesday, February 13, 1990 that my mom received a call from the SPCA.
They were pleased to have the opportunity to offer her the dog through adoption since no one had
come forward to claim him. She decided that she would go back to New York the next day to pick
him up. On Valentine s Day, I got home from school and to my surprise I was greeted at the door
by this vivacious, brown eyed golden retriever. I was so excited and I immediately sat down on
the cold, ceramic floor and played with my new friend. We rolled all over the floor and I was
giggling as he licked my face, and at the same time, he was whimpering with happiness. We did this
for about an hour until I

Gregory Lee Johnson
People watched in shock; Protesters and none protesters circled around as Gregory Lee Johnson
lit the American Flag on fire. Why would a man disrespect a symbol such as the American flag,
that represents freedom, liberty and democracy? Was he protected by the constitution s first
amendment? The Supreme Court answered all these questions we had by voting in favor of
Johnson. Johnson s intentions were only political, and he as the freedom of speech. The
Supreme Court was correct on this decision on letting Johnson go, since he was protected by his
amendments, and no matter what the action was, if the amendment gives us the right, we should
be entitled to our freedoms. In August of 1984, supporters came to Dallas Texas to come to the
Republican National Convention, where President Ronald Reagan was being elected to run for
president for a second round. Outside of these supporters for the presidential leaders were
protesters. These protesters were angry with the new Reagan Policies. Protesters marched the
streets chanting Red, white, and blue, we spit on you! Kicking over flower pots, spray painting
walls, and they acted out nuclear attacks. When the protesters came to the front of city hall, 100
people circled around to watch a man by the name of Gregory Lee Johnson pour kerosene over an
American Flag and begin to burn it. Many people stood in awe as Johnson stood next to our
desecrating flag. 45 minutes after Johnson was arrested by Texas police. The aftermath of the flag

Essay on money laundering
Money laundering is the routing of illegal profits from bank to bank to disguise its existence. The
illegal profits are usually made through activities such as drug trafficking, prostitution rings, illegal
arms sales, and various other things. Unfortunately money laundering is a serious crime that is still
prevalent in the United States and other countries. The Russian mafia, the Triad or Chinese mafia,
and the Columbian drug cartelare just a few of the groups that partake in money laundering. No one
knows exactly how much money is laundered yearly but it is estimated to be about $100 billion in
the United States. The United States is not the only country affected by these numbers. The

Most of the money laundered today is done by some sort of organized crime, whether it is a drug
cartel, illegal arms sale, smuggling, prostitution rings, the Mafia, or corporations. Organized crime
has existed in the United States for many years. Some of the organized crime groups known for
money laundering are: the Russian Mafia, the Triad, other wise known as the Chinese Mafia and
the Yakuza. All of these groups are known for a variety of illegal activities that involve receiving
substantially high profits. Some of these activities may include drug trafficking, illegal arms sale,
and various other things. Recently law enforcement has discovered that corporations have been
helpers in laundering money. This discovery leads back to the Black Market Peso Exchange.
These corporations do not have a direct involvement with the laundering, but are a helping hand
at times. Many times corporations are the supplier of goods for the broker. The perks that go
along with being the supplier entail getting an exchange rate better than the market. An example
of this is if a corporation has pesos that they need to exchange back into dollars, and the exchange
rate is 1,000 pesos for 1 U.S. dollar, the broker may discount the rate to 880 pesos for 1 U. S. dollar.
The initial stage occurs when a criminal, or a group of criminals, involved in an illegal activity
make a substantial sum of money. The money is then put into the

The Great Gatsby published in 1925 written by F. Scott...
The Great Gatsby published in 1925 written by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a classic American novel
that defines 1920 s America very well or as Fitzgerald calls it in the Great Gatsby the Jazz Age.
He wanted to show that the Jazz Age was a time of loose social and moral values, as well as to
show the reckless life styles people lived. The book is set right after WWI which was a time of
prosperity in America. During the war everyone had double the income and less expenses because
the men were getting paid for fighting in the war and the women had to get jobs to keep the
country running, which caused an excess of funds in most families. The Prohibition was also
occurring at this time which gave people the opportunity to get rich quick through... Show more

Gatsby and Wolfshiem are two good examples of people who were taking advantage of those
opportunities. The book was set in the nineteen twenty s which was a great time in American
history. In this decade, America became one of the wealthiest countries in the world. One of the
reasons for this wealth was the Prohibition, which was the ban of alcohol. Another reason for
America s wealth was that this was right after World War I. Both of these added the to wealth
and is most likely how this era became known as the Jazz Age, which was a time to just have a
good time and enjoy life, because people did not really care about anything but having a good
time and the could afford to do that or so they thought. The Eighteenth Amendment, better
known as the prohibition, was the banning of alcoholic beverages which lasted from nineteen
twenty to nineteen thirty three. The amendment was passed to try and lower the crime rate and
over all improve life, but what it really did was open doors for a new kind of crime. When
alcohol was banned criminals saw an opportunity to make easy money and make it fast which is
how bootlegging and speakeasies became very popular. Bootleggers were people who made and
sold alcohol under the table to the people who had money to blow. Speakeasies were hidden bars
that people would go to they were usually located in the back of pharmacies or restaurants. To get
into a speakeasy you had to know someone

  • 2. The Benefits of Responsible Human Cloning Essay The Benefits of Responsible Human Cloning On an unremarkable afternoon in July of 1996, in an unremarkable shed in Scotland, a lamb was born. This lamb was to spark a controversy that would be one of the defining arguments of this era. This lamb, simply named Dolly (after Dolly Parton in reference to the mammary cell used as the donor), was the first clone to be born using specialized cells from an adult mammal. The fact that the lamb was cloned from these specialized cells such as muscle cells, liver cells, or mammary cells is what made this discovery of such importance. Before this, scientists had thought that these cells had lost their ability to grow into a new embryo. They had already cloned embryos, but this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thousands of lives could be saved. In recent months, the story of this event has swamped the news media. Although many opinions have been expressed, finding anyone who is stating the facts of the issue and not just venting his fears and misconceptions has become extremely difficult. I n fact, despite the enormous controversy surrounding the science, many benefits exist for mankind because of its discovery, and the continued support for the advancement of the science far outweighs any disadvantages that may arise. We cannot afford to l et our emotional biases deter us from allowing this research to continue. To better understand why this is, one must look at the arguments and misconceptions most commonly associated with those opposed to cloning. Cloning is immoral. As the procedure stands now, the cloning of humans is immoral. The procedure used has a low success rate and disfiguration and death is not uncommon, but that is because it has only been developed to be used on animals, with which these types of losse s are far more acceptable. All reasonable scientists agree that the process should not even be attempted until the process is refined to meet acceptable success rates and that those higher success rates will be feasible in the near future. ... • 3. Impressionism vs. Cubism Essay Impressionism vs. Cubism Art, according to Webster s Dictionary, is a human skill of expression of other objects by painting, drawing, and sculpture. People have used art as a form of expression for a long time. From the Mesopotamian era to the Classical Greeks and the present. Art is expressed in many different ways and styles, and is rapidly changing, one style replacing another. Impressionism and Cubism broke away from the traditional style of painting. They were both looking for a new way to express everyday life. Time is an important tool that is used in Cubism as well as Impressionism. It is composed of geometrical shapes, abstraction and time. There are no specific colors or objects used. Cubists were looking for a different way to express human form as well as art in general. They provided what we could almost call a God s eye view of reality: every aspect of the whole subject, seen simultaneously in a single dimension. According to Fiero, the Cubist image, conceived as if one were moving around, above, and below the subject and even perceiving it from within, appropriated the fourth dimension time itself. In a sense, Cubism is four dimensional: depth, height, breath, and time, but seen all at once. It displays different viewpoints from different aspects. The object is taken and looked at in many perspectives and is represented that way on the canvas. Monet s painting Sunrise displays vivid color, which is commonly used among impressionists. The painting is of the sun rising over the lake, over looking the bay and the boats within. Sunrise is a patently a seascape; but the painting says more about how one sees than about what one sees. It transcribes the fleeting effects of light and the changing atmosphere of water and air into a tissue of small dots and streaks of color the elements of pure perception (Fiero 114). This painting is typical of its style because it captures light at that moment. The sun is rising and its color is projected to everything in its path. Monet seems to capture this ... • 4. Essay On Salem Witch Trials Vs Mccarthyism The Salem Witch Trials and McCarthyism went down the same road. They both named some names of people who were not even apart of the communist party, nor were they witches. Both events did not have proof of other people being apart of these groups either. After awhile people started resisting and stopped the trials. The fact that both events named off random people shows that the events went off the same idea and started the same way. During the Witch Trials two little girls named Abigail and Betty started having weird fits. When a doctor blamed the supernatural, Reverend Parris came in the investigation the girls. After a while of Parris talking to the girls they started to list off names. The names the two listed off were Sarah Good, Goody Osburn, Bridget Bishop, George Jacobs, Goody Howe, Martha Bellows, Goody Sibber, Alice Barrow, Goody Hawkins, Goody Bibber, Goody Booth . This started a witch hunt, they found these people and asked them if they knew anymore names of witches. In McCarthyism there was a Hollywood director named Elia Kazan . They had to take their word for it because they did not want to be accused. McCarthyism did the same thing. After eventually being reunited twice, and several court cases after, they lived happily together as a family. Consequently, the central theme and key aspect discussed throughout the length of this book would be how detrimental racismwas to black folks during this era, the Jim Crow Era. This statement shows how forms of racism contributed to the abusive of the boys, and served to the self interest of the oppressors. To portray the boys as anything other than human, and justify it with science goes to show how insensitive and disrespectful blacks were treated. Even in the circus for that matter, black performers were treated unfairly. It was only when George and Willie became really popular, is when they were given equitable treatment. More importantly, a segment of this story that really places emphasis on the role racism had in lives of black people would be the custody battle Harriet had to get her boys out of the circus. As Malcom X said The most disrespected people in America is the black woman . That quote definitely applies to this situation the fact that a mother had to put up a fight twice to win her boys back is ridiculous. In the case of Harriet Muse vs. George and Willie Muse, Harriet petitioned a Roanoke court to have her son declared practically imbeciles (385). Gender Roles Of Civic Duties And Raising Children Throughout Vibia Perpetua s life, Roman society expected her to follow structured gender roles of civic duties and raising children in her community because she was female. This essay will analyze Perpetua s defiance of the gender expectations of civic hood and motherhood of the Roman community, and how the Christian community allowed her to define her own identity as a woman on her own terms in conflicting societies. In Perpetua s time, the role of a woman within the Roman culture was determined narrowly against gendered expectations. Early Roman society families had a patriarchal structure meaning the father was the head of the family. The strongest tie within the family was that between a father and a daughter. Daughters were expected to [forge] political and social ties for fathers (Salisbury 6). A Roman daughter was favored the most; they received the best education overseen by their fathers. The purpose of a strong education was to pass on to their sons the values of Rome as well as help her to be a good mother in the future (Salisbury 7). King and Lawley (2013, p.601) stated that rationalisation can be defined as increasing the efficiency and reducing costs within a business, this idea incorporates the aspects of a bureaucracy and the scientific design of work). Within a rational organisation, bureaucracies are created through the implementation of policies and procedures which makes the organisation standardised, predictable and efficient. Organisations such as Junction hotel might consider adopting the key features of rationalisation, for example within a bureaucracy a hierarchy is created, this shows clear lines of communication within departments. King and Lawley (2013) show that within Junction hotel the organisational structure lacks span of control as Linda Wilkinson is in charge of 34 employees This was improved by making the span of control more manageable by delegating control through management, different departments can be created, within each department there is a head employee who was in charge of more staff. As an organisation grows, the number of employee s increases, therefore Fayols five functions of management are implemented through impersonal control rather than direct face to face control. In contrast to rationalisation, King and Lawley (2013) describe the social organisation as a belief that the key factors in shaping an individual within the workplace are the social interactions between people. Unit 28 Website Production Assignment 1 Alex Aricci 2nd October 2014 P1 Introduction The purpose of this report is to outline the web architecture and components that enable internet and web functionality. Internet Service Providers (ISP) ISPs are the companies which own or rent the infrastructure which provides internet access to its customers for a fee. ISPs often offer different services at different price points with more expensive ones often having higher bandwidth and download limits (or no download limits at all) as well as sometimes providing phone and digital TV services (for instance, Sky, Virgin, BT) although available services vary locally due to differences in infrastructure. Web Hosting Services Web hosting services provide space and bandwidth on the internet for people to make their websites available online. When a web page is requested the web host sends a web page to someone trying to access it via a server. Domain Structure The Domain Name system is a system on the internet used to translate IP addresses (long string of numbers that describe the location of a resource on the internet) into recognisable names, this makes it easier for humans to navigate the internet as it is much easier to remember the name of a website than to remember its I.P. address. It is a hierarchical system that points users to various resources, computers or services on the internet, such as images or videos. Domain Name Registrars Domain Name Registrars allow ... Scales such as the James internal external locus of control scale, Reid Ware s three factor internal external scale, multidimensional multiattributional causality scale, the Nowicki Duke scale(Jerry), Rotter s internal external locus of controlscale, and Levenson s IPC Scale were widely used in research, with the latter the most commonly used measure (Halpert). Rotter developed the internal external, which refers to the extent to which individuals believe their actions are controlled by their behavior, capacities, skills etc. Levenson then created a developed scale of Rotter s. A study suggested that it would be better to use Levenson s scale over Rotter s due to the latter s lack of performance (James r. Lumpkin). Questions were raised concerning the validity and reliability of each scale. Sapp and Harrod argued that Levenson s locus of control scale was reliable and valid but that other researchers should also be conducted on other scales. They also argued that the broadness of the construct enables other studies to keep questioning its validity (Sapp and Harrod). Loci of control scales were applied in conducting many psychological researches in a variety of fields such as heath, parental, academic, age specific, cultural, ethical etc. Results of the studies proved the importance of the construct and the scales used to measure it. • 18. Lord Of The Flies Rhetorical Analysis Many people in this world is civilized from rules the government has created. Without these rules it would be like a barbaric world where everyone has to find their own food for survival. When people had the idea of a making rules to follow it started a society that needs rules to be followed in order to get anything done. With the creation of rules people can get more things done with structure of rules. Without these rules everyone will act more savagethan the normal person acts today. In Lord of the Flies, William Goldinguses the conflict to show that Ralph is civilized, and that Jack is showing signs of savagery. Ralph being civilized could help him be more alarmed about what goes around him and make better decisions faster. When Ralph was voted leader he wanted first to make rules for everyone on the island to follow. Making rules and choosing a leader like a government is being more civilized compared to just huntingfor meat. Rules is a great way to start of being leader of a group of young kids. When everyone was talking at once he thought of the rule. The rule was, I ll give the conch to the next person to speak he can hold it when he is speaking (Golding 33). This rule also said that only Ralph could interrupt because he was the chief. By Ralph setting these rules it shows a governmental state which is more civilized. Classes in this minor are designed to teach students about the theoretical and practical uses of leadershipthat are relevant to the work force today. The leadership courses I have taken at Baylor and my time as part of the Leadership Living Learning Center, better known as LEAD, has shaped my opinion of the importance of the Leadership Studies Minor. This paper will examine how the Leadership Studies Minor helped me learn about myself as a leader and guided me to pursue my passions in the next chapter of my life. In my first semester at Baylor I was forced to quickly adapt to both the pace of college classes and the demands of LEAD. My freshman year in LEAD fundamentally changed my view of leadership, specifically how I could be a leader in situations that I hadn t been before. Coming into college my previous leadership experience was limited to being the captain of the tennis team at my high school and the oldest of seven in my family. These roles were similar in that because I had the most authority, based on skill for the tennis team and seniority over my siblings, I felt comfortable in a leadership position. Many critics praised the song for its message on body positivity, however, a closer look at the lyrics reveals the song is not as positive as the general public has been led to believe. Much like John Fiske s analysis of a news report, one can use Louis Althusser s technique to expose the bias of All About the Bass and reveal just how the listeners of this song are being hailed. Throughout most of the song, Trainor claims she is all about that bass, no treble, effectively creating a binary the listener must use to categorize themselves. In order to choose a side, one must first learn what Trainor defines as bass and treble. She answers this question with in the first chorus, stating that she is not a size two and has that boom boom that all the boys chase. One can conclude that the bass Trainor is all about is being a woman who is a bit more curvaceous than women who are more petite, who Trainor believes to be treble. Sexual tension leads to a highly charged, dramatic demise for Blanche and Eddie The characters of Blanche and Eddie are closely linked by several factors, including the reasons behind their cantankerous endings in the plays A Streetcar Named Desire and A View from the Bridge . Williams and Miller characterize Blanche and Eddie through their sexuality, which is a very important theme in both plays. This then progresses towards the end of the play, to complete lack of respect for Blanche herself, as in scene ten a drunk Stanley rapes her while her sister is in hospital; an unpleasant victory over a weakened Blanche is the very peak of tension between the two. The main tension experienced in A View from the Bridge is due to the great contrast between how Eddie sees Catherine, and how she sees him. In Eddie s world, he imagines protecting Catherine from marriage or any male relationship and wants her for himself. While Eddie wavers and switches between communal and state laws and cultures to discriminate against Rodolpho, his motivations do not change, regardless of the fact it is often at the expense of others. • 44. The Elements Of A Great Speech By Martin Luther King Jr. Life is always easier when there is a way to find the answer. A cake is easier to bake with a recipe to follow, and a great speech needs a formula or list of aspects to include. Good morning Mrs Roche and students. For my presentation today I will explore a formula I have created that contains all the elements of a great speech. I produced this formula while I was studying some of the work of one of the best speakers and leaders of all time: Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr was an American Baptist Minister, Activist, Humanitarian, and leader in the African American Civil Rights Movement. He was known for his amazing speaking skills and visionary speeches, which he used to successfully make a non violent movement against segregation and injustice during his time. He was a great speaker and a great leader. So what better of a leader than Martin Luther King Jr to help identify what key aspects need to be put into the formula. ... Martin Luther King s speeches are considered great because he manages to connect with the audience through their emotional ties to the event he is talking about. In his eulogy for the death of three girls killed in the bombing of their church he used the words : These children unoffending, innocent and beautiful were victims of one of the most vicious and tragic crimes ever perpetuated against humanity , this language both pays respect towards the girls but also links back to his fight against injustice and this is exactly what the listeners will respond to. They will be grateful to his kind words but will agree with him that it wasn t fair for the girls to die so innocent and young, and that they want this to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Education Act Of 1944 And The Beginning Of The National... Education in Great Britain has always been a hot topic for discussion and over the years the education system has undergone many changes. This has been down to the political party in power at the time, pressures of a changing society and the subsequent rise and fall of the national economy. The purpose of this essay is to look at how these factors have affected and developed secondary educationin Great Britain starting with a brief overview of the pre 1900 s. Moving through the years in chronological order, the essay will consider various Education Acts and reports, the effect of two World Wars and the controversial Butler Education Act of 1944 when the tripartite systemwas introduced. Prior to 1900 secondary education was virtually non existent, the consensus view at that time was that secondary education was only for boys of the middle and upper classes. The few schools available were fee paying and therefore only an option to those who could afford them. This fuelled the gap in social status and in the opinion of Marxists kept the lower classes in their place so as not to disrupt the economic and social balance. In the 1860 s there were no grammar schools for girls, however due to a slight change in the views of society by 1900 eighty girls schools had been created (Stephens, 1998). The 1870 s saw the development of some of higher grade schools, these had a scientific and technical bias and grants were provided for those whose pupils were successful in the ... • 49. The Misunderstood Religion of Islam Islam is perhaps the supreme misunderstood religion today, among non Muslims and among some of the Muslims themselves. There are both historical and modern influences that might clarify this misconception of Islam within certain rings in the West. One should start with the fact that Islam, represented historically as the Ottoman Empireman Empire, occupied parts of Europe, which had certainly not occurred to European civilization before. Then there were the Crusades, which was Christendom attempting to, I believe, execute and impose its religion upon the Middle East. I deliberately use the phrase Middle East, as the Crusades did not just impact the Muslim population; the Jews were also in a similar position and were victims of this process. Furthermore, according to specific groups, the Orthodox Christians were victims as well of those circumstances. Therefore, it was fundamentally Western Christendom that was the driving factor of the Crusades, which extended throughout centuries and ended in defeat for the powerful Christian leaders. This had an impact on the psyche of the Western people and influenced their opinion of civilization. Then, of course, you had colonialism, which affected both sides and created a situation in which the antagonism became even more serious. After the colonial period, a key factor that arose concerned the economic benefits represented by oil, which is considered a gold commodity that is most essential to manufacturing and industrial ... • 50. Never Let Me Go Dialectical Journal Discovery Journal Writing Never Let Me Go Chapter 10 Kathy recalled, Of course, in practice, especially during the first months, we rarely stepped beyond the confines of the Cottages. We didn t even walk about the surrounding countryside or wander into the nearby village. I don t think we were afraid exactly. Unlike Hailsham, the Cottages have no gates or any form of barriers that kept confined. I don t understand why Kathy and her friends don t go out to explore. If it wasn t for the fact that they were afraid, then why don t they venture out? What could be the reasons for them to refrain from doing so? Gates are mainly designed for two reasons. Some gates are designed to keep people within the confines; others are designed to keep others from entering. In Never Let Me Go, it may be kind of hard to tell the difference, sometimes. Fences and barriers appear all over the novel, but the reasons as to why these gates are designed are not always apparent to us readers (the typical Kathy style).... However, as they eventually grew older, Kathy and her friends gain more freedom, physically, that is. The characters exercise freedom by driving, going on several road trips or adventures. But even with the freedom they gained over time, Kathy and her friends get the point that there are barriers that you just can t see visually, sometimes. In fact, physical barriers are actually easier to escape from, unlike the other forms of barricades. At Hailsham, it was the social barricades that fence in the students their guardians. Whereas at the cottages, it was the psychological barricades that kept the students away from what was true ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. How To Put My Incapacitated Dog On Wednesday, June 18, 2003, I had finalized the decision to put my incapacitated dog to rest. It became a reality. I clearly remember the warm, breezy day that occurred two weeks ago. As I sat in the freshly cutgrass of my front yard, I paid no attention to the sounds of the birds that were singing or the leaves that were dancing on the trees. All that was on my mind was the details of the last 13 years and remembering the times we shared together. As I kept trying to convince myself that he would not have to suffer another day from his ailments, I kept thinking of the first day that he came into my life. I was 15 years old when I got Valen. It was Valentine s Day in 1990. Earlier that week my motherwas near Port Jervis, New York on a business trip. She had some free time before she had to come home to Pennsylvania so she decided to stop at the local SPCA. Her intentions were to simply look at the animals and then leave. She made her way to the area that housed the dogs. There she found a shy, but friendly, golden retriever. He was a bit apprehensive at first, almost as if he was neglected and abused, but it didn t take much of my mom s gentle touch and her soft, subtle voice before this dog realized she was his savior. She decided that she would like to adopt this dog however, the policy was strict, and there was a seven day waiting period before you could adopt an animal. This was in place to allow ample time for the owner to claim their animals if they got astray. As much as my mom wanted to leave that day with the dog, she had to wait. It was on Tuesday, February 13, 1990 that my mom received a call from the SPCA. They were pleased to have the opportunity to offer her the dog through adoption since no one had come forward to claim him. She decided that she would go back to New York the next day to pick him up. On Valentine s Day, I got home from school and to my surprise I was greeted at the door by this vivacious, brown eyed golden retriever. I was so excited and I immediately sat down on the cold, ceramic floor and played with my new friend. We rolled all over the floor and I was giggling as he licked my face, and at the same time, he was whimpering with happiness. We did this for about an hour until I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Gregory Lee Johnson People watched in shock; Protesters and none protesters circled around as Gregory Lee Johnson lit the American Flag on fire. Why would a man disrespect a symbol such as the American flag, that represents freedom, liberty and democracy? Was he protected by the constitution s first amendment? The Supreme Court answered all these questions we had by voting in favor of Johnson. Johnson s intentions were only political, and he as the freedom of speech. The Supreme Court was correct on this decision on letting Johnson go, since he was protected by his amendments, and no matter what the action was, if the amendment gives us the right, we should be entitled to our freedoms. In August of 1984, supporters came to Dallas Texas to come to the Republican National Convention, where President Ronald Reagan was being elected to run for president for a second round. Outside of these supporters for the presidential leaders were protesters. These protesters were angry with the new Reagan Policies. Protesters marched the streets chanting Red, white, and blue, we spit on you! Kicking over flower pots, spray painting walls, and they acted out nuclear attacks. When the protesters came to the front of city hall, 100 people circled around to watch a man by the name of Gregory Lee Johnson pour kerosene over an American Flag and begin to burn it. Many people stood in awe as Johnson stood next to our desecrating flag. 45 minutes after Johnson was arrested by Texas police. The aftermath of the flag ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most of the money laundered today is done by some sort of organized crime, whether it is a drug cartel, illegal arms sale, smuggling, prostitution rings, the Mafia, or corporations. Organized crime has existed in the United States for many years. Some of the organized crime groups known for money laundering are: the Russian Mafia, the Triad, other wise known as the Chinese Mafia and the Yakuza. All of these groups are known for a variety of illegal activities that involve receiving substantially high profits. Some of these activities may include drug trafficking, illegal arms sale, and various other things. Recently law enforcement has discovered that corporations have been helpers in laundering money. This discovery leads back to the Black Market Peso Exchange. These corporations do not have a direct involvement with the laundering, but are a helping hand at times. Many times corporations are the supplier of goods for the broker. The perks that go along with being the supplier entail getting an exchange rate better than the market. An example of this is if a corporation has pesos that they need to exchange back into dollars, and the exchange rate is 1,000 pesos for 1 U.S. dollar, the broker may discount the rate to 880 pesos for 1 U. S. dollar. The initial stage occurs when a criminal, or a group of criminals, involved in an illegal activity make a substantial sum of money. The money is then put into the ... Scott Fitzgerald is a classic American novel that defines 1920 s America very well or as Fitzgerald calls it in the Great Gatsby the Jazz Age. He wanted to show that the Jazz Age was a time of loose social and moral values, as well as to show the reckless life styles people lived. The book is set right after WWI which was a time of prosperity in America. During the war everyone had double the income and less expenses because the men were getting paid for fighting in the war and the women had to get jobs to keep the country running, which caused an excess of funds in most families. Gatsby and Wolfshiem are two good examples of people who were taking advantage of those opportunities. The book was set in the nineteen twenty s which was a great time in American history. In this decade, America became one of the wealthiest countries in the world. One of the reasons for this wealth was the Prohibition, which was the ban of alcohol. Another reason for America s wealth was that this was right after World War I. Both of these added the to wealth and is most likely how this era became known as the Jazz Age, which was a time to just have a good time and enjoy life, because people did not really care about anything but having a good time and the could afford to do that or so they thought. The Eighteenth Amendment, better known as the prohibition, was the banning of alcoholic beverages which lasted from nineteen twenty to nineteen thirty three. The amendment was passed to try and lower the crime rate and over all improve life, but what it really did was open doors for a new kind of crime. When alcohol was banned criminals saw an opportunity to make easy money and make it fast which is how bootlegging and speakeasies became very popular. Bootleggers were people who made and sold alcohol under the table to the people who had money to blow. Speakeasies were hidden bars that people would go to they were usually located in the back of pharmacies or restaurants. To get into a speakeasy you had to know someone ...
