This is my 2nd Doctorate progresses committee presentation in image registration which is explained how do you find image similarity based on Entropy and mutual information
Image registration is the fundamental task used to
match two or more partially overlapping images taken, for
example, at different times, from different sensors, or from
different viewpoints and stitch these images into one
panoramic image comprising the whole scene. It is
afundamental image processing technique and is very useful
in integrating information from different sensors, finding
changes in images taken at different times, inferring threedimensional
information from stereo images, and recognizing
model-based objects.
This paper overviews the theoretical aspects of an image
registration problem. The purpose of this paper is to present a
survey of image registration techniques. This technique of
image registration aligns two images geometrically. These two
images are reference image and sensed image. The ultimate
purpose of digital image filtering is to support the visual
identification of certain features expressed by characteristic
shapes and patterns. Numerous recipes, algorithms and ready
made programs exist nowadays that predominantly have in
common that users have to set certain parameters.
Particularly if processing is fast and shows results rather
immediately, the choice of parameters may be guided by
making the image ―looking nice‖. However, in practical
situations most users are not in a mood to ―play around‖
with a displayed image, particularly if they are in a stressy
situation as it may encountered in security applications. The
requirements for the application of digital image processing
under such circumstances will be discussed with an example
of automaticfiltering without manual parameter settings that
even entails the advantage of delivering unbiased results
This document proposes a method for improving medical image registration using mutual information. It aims to address limitations in standard mutual information-based registration when there are local intensity variations. The method incorporates spatial and geometric information by computing mutual information in regions identified by the Harris corner detection operator. These regions have large spatial variations that provide geometric information. The method is tested on synthetic and clinical data, showing improved registration accuracy. It is implemented on a GPU for increased parallel processing efficiency, providing a 4-46% speed improvement over standard registration methods.
Medical Image Fusion Using Discrete Wavelet TransformIJERA Editor
Medical image fusion is the process of registering and combining multiple images from single or multiple imaging modalities to improve the imaging quality and reduce randomness and redundancy in order to increase the clinical applicability of medical images for diagnosis and assessment of medical problems. Multimodal medical image fusion algorithms and devices have shown notable achievements in improving clinical accuracy of decisions based on medical images. The domain where image fusion is readily used nowadays is in medical diagnostics to fuse medical images such as CT (Computed Tomography), MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) and MRA. This paper aims to present a new algorithm to improve the quality of multimodality medical image fusion using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) approach. Discrete Wavelet transform has been implemented using different fusion techniques including pixel averaging, maximum minimum and minimum maximum methods for medical image fusion. Performance of fusion is calculated on the basis of PSNR, MSE and the total processing time and the results demonstrate the effectiveness of fusion scheme based on wavelet transform.

Comparison of Segmentation Algorithms and Estimation of Optimal Segmentation ...Pinaki Ranjan Sarkar
Recent advancement in sensor technology allows very high spatial resolution along with multiple spectral bands. There are many studies, which highlight that Object Based Image Analysis(OBIA) is more accurate than pixel-based classification for high resolution(< 2m) imagery. Image segmentation is a crucial step for OBIA and it is a very formidable task to estimate optimal parameters for segmentation as it does not have any unique solution. In this paper, we have studied different segmentation algorithms (both mono-scale and multi-scale) for different terrain categories and showed how the segmented output depends on upon various parameters. Later, we have introduced a novel method to estimate optimal segmentation parameters. The main objectives of this study are to highlight the effectiveness of presently available segmentation techniques on very high-resolution satellite data and to automate segmentation process. Pre-estimation of segmentation parameter is more practical and efficient in OBIA. Assessment of segmentation algorithms and estimation of segmentation parameters are examined based on the very high-resolution multi-spectral WorldView-3(0.3m, PAN sharpened) data.
Image Fusion and Image Quality Assessment of Fused ImagesCSCJournals
Accurate diagnosis of tumor extent is important in radiotherapy. This paper presents the use of image fusion of PET and MRI image. Multi-sensor image fusion is the process of combining information from two or more images into a single image. The resulting image contains more information as compared to individual images. PET delivers high-resolution molecular imaging with a resolution down to 2.5 mm full width at half maximum (FWHM), which allows us to observe the brain\'s molecular changes using the specific reporter genes and probes. On the other hand, the 7.0 T-MRI, with sub-millimeter resolution images of the cortical areas down to 250 m, allows us to visualize the fine details of the brainstem areas as well as the many cortical and sub-cortical areas. The PET-MRI fusion imaging system provides complete information on neurological diseases as well as cognitive neurosciences. The paper presents PCA based image fusion and also focuses on image fusion algorithm based on wavelet transform to improve resolution of the images in which two images to be fused are firstly decomposed into sub-images with different frequency and then the information fusion is performed and finally these sub-images are reconstructed into result image with plentiful information. . We also propose image fusion in Radon space. This paper presents assessment of image fusion by measuring the quantity of enhanced information in fused images. We use entropy, mean, standard deviation and Fusion Mutual Information, cross correlation , Mutual Information Root Mean Square Error, Universal Image Quality Index and Relative shift in mean to compare fused image quality. This document summarizes a research paper that proposes an algorithm for detecting brain tumors in MRI images based on analyzing bilateral symmetry. The algorithm first performs preprocessing like smoothing and contrast enhancement. It then identifies the bilateral symmetry axis of the brain. Next, it segments the image into symmetric regions, enhancing asymmetric edges that may indicate a tumor. Experiments showed the algorithm can automatically detect tumor positions and boundaries. The algorithm leverages the fact that brain MRI of a healthy person is nearly bilaterally symmetric, while a tumor disrupts this symmetry.
This document summarizes a research paper on accurate multimodality registration of medical images. It discusses how image registration is important for aligning images from different modalities (MRI, CT, PET, etc.) to integrate useful data and observe changes over time. The paper presents a registration algorithm that uses mutual information as a metric to match images without relying on direct pixel intensity comparisons. It describes the basic components of registration including transforms, interpolators, metrics and optimizers. Results show the algorithm successfully registers MRI and proton density MRI images without limits. The algorithm could provide a useful approach for multi-modal medical image registration.
Mutual Information for Registration of Monomodal Brain Images using Modified ...IDES Editor
Image registration has great significance in medicine,
with a lot of techniques anticipated in it. This research work
implies an approach for medical image registration that
registers images of the mono modalities for CT or MRI images
using Modified Adaptive Polar Transform (MAPT). The
performance of the Adaptive Polar Transform (APT) with the
proposed technique is examined. The results prove that MAPT
performs better than APT technique. The proposed scheme not
only reduces the source of errors and also reduces the elapsed
time for registration of brain images. An analysis is presented
for the medical image processing on mutual- information-based
registration.
This document discusses image registration using mutual information. It describes mutual information as a similarity measure that is robust to illumination changes, modality differences, and occlusions. It can accurately register both monomodal and multimodal images in real-time. The document evaluates three optimization techniques for mutual information-based registration - gradient descent, conjugate gradient, and random search. Gradient descent produced the most accurate registrations with the lowest error values. Entropy, mutual information, and error values are calculated and reported to evaluate the registration results for both mono and multimodal images. Gradient descent optimization achieved the best alignment between images as indicated by the increased mutual information and decreased error values after registration.
ADOPTING AND IMPLEMENTATION OF SELF ORGANIZING FEATURE MAP FOR IMAGE FUSIONijistjournal
A different image fusion algorithm based on self organizing feature map is proposed in this paper, aiming to produce quality images. Image Fusion is to integrate complementary and redundant information from multiple images of the same scene to create a single composite image that contains all the important features of the original images. The resulting fused image will thus be more suitable for human and machine perception or for further image processing tasks. The existing fusion techniques based on either direct operation on pixels or segments fail to produce fused images of the required quality and are mostly application based. The existing segmentation algorithms become complicated and time consuming when multiple images are to be fused. A new method of segmenting and fusion of gray scale images adopting Self organizing Feature Maps(SOM) is proposed in this paper. The Self Organizing Feature Maps is adopted to produce multiple slices of the source and reference images based on various combination of gray scale and can dynamically fused depending on the application. The proposed technique is adopted and analyzed for fusion of multiple images. The technique is robust in the sense that there will be no loss in information due to the property of Self Organizing Feature Maps; noise removal in the source images done during processing stage and fusion of multiple images is dynamically done to get the desired results. Experimental results demonstrate that, for the quality multifocus image fusion, the proposed method performs better than some popular image fusion methods in both subjective and objective qualities.

COLOUR BASED IMAGE SEGMENTATION USING HYBRID KMEANS WITH WATERSHED SEGMENTATIONIAEME Publication
Image processing, arbitrarily manipulating an image to achieve an aesthetic standard or to support a preferred reality. The objective of segmentation is partitioning an image into distinct regions containing each pixels with similar attributes. Image segmentation can be done using thresholding, color space segmentation, k-means clustering.
Segmentation is the low-level operation concerned with partitioning images by determining disjoint and homogeneous regions or, equivalently, by finding edges or boundaries. The homogeneous regions, or the edges, are supposed to correspond, actual objects, or parts of them, within the images. Thus, in a large number of applications in image processing and computer vision, segmentation plays a fundamental role as the first step before applying to images higher-level operations such as recognition, semantic interpretation, and representation. Until very recently, attention has been focused on segmentation of gray-level images since these have been the only kind of visual information that acquisition devices were able to take the computer resources to handle. Nowadays, color image has definitely displaced monochromatic information and computation power is no longer a limitation in processing large volumes of data. In this paper proposed hybrid k-means with watershed segmentation algorithm is used segment the images. Filtering techniques is used as noise filtration method to improve the results and PSNR, MSE performance parameters has been calculated and shows the level of accuracy

A Dualistic Sub-Image Histogram Equalization Based Enhancement and Segmentati...inventy
This document presents a dualistic sub-image histogram equalization technique for medical image enhancement and segmentation. The technique divides an image histogram into two parts based on mean and median, then equalizes each sub-histogram independently. It enhances images effectively while constraining average luminance shift. For segmentation, canny edge detection and neural networks are used. The technique is tested on medical images and shows improved completeness and correctness over previous methods, with neural networks increasing accuracy to 98.3257%.

An ensemble classification algorithm for hyperspectral imagessipij
Hyperspectral image analysis has been used for many purposes in environmental monitoring, remote
sensing, vegetation research and also for land cover classification. A hyperspectral image consists of many
layers in which each layer represents a specific wavelength. The layers stack on top of one another making
a cube-like image for entire spectrum. This work aims to classify the hyperspectral images and to produce
a thematic map accurately. Spatial information of hyperspectral images is collected by applying
morphological profile and local binary pattern. Support vector machine is an efficient classification
algorithm for classifying the hyperspectral images. Genetic algorithm is used to obtain the best feature
subjected for classification. Selected features are classified for obtaining the classes and to produce a
thematic map. Experiment is carried out with AVIRIS Indian Pines and ROSIS Pavia University. Proposed
method produces accuracy as 93% for Indian Pines and 92% for Pavia University.
OBJECT SEGMENTATION USING MULTISCALE MORPHOLOGICAL OPERATIONSijcseit
Object segmentation plays an important role in human visual perception, medical image processing and content based image retrieval. It provides information for recognition and interpretation. This paper uses mathematical morphology for image segmentation. Object segmentation is difficult because one usually does not know a priori what type of object exists in an image, how many different shapes are there and what regions the image has. To carryout discrimination and segmentation several innovative segmentation methods, based on morphology are proposed. The present study proposes segmentation method based on multiscale morphological reconstructions. Various sizes of structuring elements have been used to segment simple and complex shapes. It enhances local boundaries that may lead to improve segmentation accuracy. The method is tested on various datasets and results shows that it can be used for both interactive and automatic segmentation.

The document proposes a new feature descriptor called Local Bit-Plane Wavelet Pattern (LBWP) to improve content-based retrieval of biomedical images like CT and MRI scans. LBWP encodes relationships between pixel intensities in different bit planes and applies a wavelet function, capturing more fine-grained image details than prior methods. Evaluation on a dataset from The Cancer Imaging Archive showed LBWP outperformed existing approaches like Local Wavelet Pattern with higher average retrieval precision, rate, and F-score.
Lecture 06 geometric transformations and image registrationobertksg
This document discusses geometric transformations and image registration. It begins by explaining how geometric transformations modify the spatial relationship between pixels in an image. It then covers transforming points using forward and inverse transformations. The rest of the document describes a hierarchy of geometric transformations including isometries, similarities, affine transformations, and projective transformations. It explains how to apply these transformations to images using interpolation and provides MATLAB examples. The document concludes by discussing image registration.
This document describes a method for pixel-level image fusion using principal component analysis (PCA). PCA is used to transform correlated image pixels into a set of uncorrelated principal components. The first principal component accounts for the most variance in the pixel values. To fuse images, the pixels of the input images are arranged into vectors and subtracted from their mean. PCA is applied to get the eigenvectors corresponding to the largest eigenvalues. The normalized eigenvectors are used to compute a fused image as a weighted sum of the input images. Performance is evaluated using metrics like standard deviation, entropy, cross-entropy, and fusion mutual information, with higher values of these metrics indicating better quality of the fused image.
Presented in ISVC'14, Las Vegas, NV
Abstract: In this paper a fast triangular mesh based registration method is proposed. Having Template and Reference images as inputs, the template image is triangulated using a content adaptive mesh generation algorithm. Considering the pixel values at mesh nodes, interpolated using spline interpolation method for both of the images, the energy functional needed for image registration is minimized. The minimization process was achieved using a mesh based discretization of the distance measure and regularization term which resulted in a sparse system of linear equations, which due to the smaller size in comparison to the pixel-wise registration method, can be solved directly. Mean Squared Di?erence (MSD) is used as a metric for evaluating the results. Using the mesh based technique, higher speed was achieved compared to pixel-based curvature registration technique with fast DCT solver. The implementation was done in MATLAB without any specific optimization. Higher speeds can be achieved using C/C++ implementations.
The document discusses improper rotation, which is a combination of a rotation about an axis and a reflection in the plane perpendicular to that axis. It can be described as a rotation followed by a reflection. An improper rotation axis (Sn axis) exists in a molecule when rotating it 360/n degrees followed by reflection produces an indistinguishable configuration from the original. Examples of molecules exhibiting improper rotation include boron trifluoride (S3), methane (S4), staggered ferrocene (S10), staggered ethane (S6), and a staggered molecule (S12).

In this paper proposed hybrid k-means with watershed segmentation algorithm is used segment the images. Filtering techniques is used as noise filtration method to improve the results and PSNR, MSE performance parameters has been calculated and shows the level of accuracy

A New Approach of Medical Image Fusion using Discrete Wavelet TransformIDES Editor
MRI-PET medical image fusion has important
clinical significance. Medical image fusion is the important
step after registration, which is an integrative display method
of two images. The PET image shows the brain function with

INFORMATION SATURATION IN MULTISPECTRAL PIXEL LEVEL IMAGE FUSIONIJCI JOURNAL
The availability of imaging sensors operating in multiple spectral bands has led to the requirement of
image fusion algorithms that would combine the image from these sensors in an efficient way to give an
image that is more informative as well as perceptible to human eye. Multispectral image fusion is the
process of combining images from different spectral bands that are optically acquired. In this paper, we
used a pixel-level image fusion based on principal component analysis that combines satellite images of the
same scene from seven different spectral bands. The purpose of using principal component analysis
technique is that it is best method for Grayscale image fusion and gives better results. The main aim of
PCA technique is to reduce a large set of variables into a small set which still contains most of the
information that was present in the large set. The paper compares different parameters namely, entropy,
standard deviation, correlation coefficient etc. for different number of images fused from two to seven.
Finally, the paper shows that the information content in an image gets saturated after fusing four images.
Maximizing Strength of Digital Watermarks Using Fuzzy Logicsipij
In this paper, we propose a novel digital watermarking scheme in DCT domain based fuzzy inference system and the human visual system to adapt the embedding strength of different blocks. Firstly, the original image is divided into some 8×8 blocks, and then fuzzy inference system according to different textural features and luminance of each block decide adaptively different embedding strengths. The watermark detection adopts correlation technology. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme has good imperceptibility and high robustness to common image processing operators.

This technique is compared to principal component analysis. The document provides background on RGB color space, color perception, and Cholesky decomposition before outlining the specific steps of the VTVA algorithm.
COLOUR IMAGE REPRESENTION OF MULTISPECTRAL IMAGE FUSIONacijjournal
The availability of imaging sensors operating in multiple spectral bands has led to the requirement of
image fusion algorithms that would combine the image from these sensors in an efficient way to give an
image that is more perceptible to human eye. Multispectral Image fusion is the process of combining
images optically acquired in more than one spectral band. In this paper, we present a pixel-level image
fusion that combines four images from four different spectral bands namely near infrared(0.76-0.90um),
mid infrared(1.55-1.75um),thermal- infrared(10.4-12.5um) and mid infrared(2.08-2.35um) to give a
composite colour image. The work coalesces a fusion technique that involves linear transformation based
on Cholesky decomposition of the covariance matrix of source data that converts multispectral source
images which are in grayscale into colour image. This work is composed of different segments that
includes estimation of covariance matrix of images, cholesky decomposition and transformation ones.
Finally, the fused colour image is compared with the fused image obtained by PCA transformation.

Image fusion is a technique used to integrate a highresolution
panchromatic image with multispectral low-resolution
image to produce a multispectral high-resolution image, that
contains both the spatial information of the panchromatic highresolution
image and the color information of the multispectral
image .Although an increasing number of high-resolution images
are available along with sensor technology development, the
process of image fusion is still a popular and important method to
interpret the image data for obtaining a more suitable image for a
variety of applications, like visual interpretation and digital

Towards A More Secure Web Based Tele Radiology System: A Steganographic ApproachCSCJournals
While it is possible to make a patient's medical images available to a practicing radiologist online e.g. through open network systems inter connectivity and email attachments, these methods don't guarantee the security, confidentiality and tamper free reliability required in a medical information system infrastructure. The possibility of securely and covertly transmitting such medical images remotely for clinical interpretation and diagnosis through a secure steganographic technique was the focus of this study.
We propose a method that uses an Enhanced Least Significant Bit (ELSB) steganographic insertion method to embed a patient's Medical Image (MI) in the spatial domain of a cover digital image and his/her health records in the frequency domain of the same cover image as a watermark to ensure tamper detection and nonrepudiation. The ELSB method uses the Marsenne Twister (MT) Pseudo Random Number Generator (PRNG) to randomly embed and conceal the patient's data in the cover image. This technique significantly increases the imperceptibility of the hidden information to steganalysis thereby enhancing the security of the embedded patient's data.
In measuring the effectiveness of the proposed method, the study adopted the Design Science Research (DSR) methodology, a paradigm for problem solving in computing and Information Systems (IS) that involves design and implementation of artefacts and methods considered novel and the analytical testing of the performance of such artefacts in pursuit of understanding and enhancing an existing method, artefact or practice.
The fidelity measures of the stego images from the proposed method were compared with those from the traditional Least Significant Bit (LSB) method in order to establish the imperceptibility of the embedded information. The results demonstrated improvements of between 1 to 2.6 decibels (dB) in the Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), and up to 0.4 MSE ratios for the proposed method.
A Secure Color Image Steganography in Transform Domain ijcisjournal
Steganography is the art and science of covert communication. The secret information can be concealed in content such as image, audio, or video. This paper provides a novel image steganography technique to hide both image and key in color cover image using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Integer Wavelet Transform (IWT). There is no visual difference between the stego image and the cover image. The extracted image is also similar to the secret image. This is proved by the high PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio), value for both stego and extracted secret image. The results are compared with the results of similar techniques and it is found that the proposed technique is simple and gives better PSNR values than others.
A NOVEL IMAGE STEGANOGRAPHY APPROACH USING MULTI-LAYERS DCT FEATURES BASED ON...ijma
Steganography is the science of hidden data in the cover image without any updating of the cover image.
The recent research of the steganography is significantly used to hide large amount of information within
an image and/or audio files. This paper proposed a new novel approach for hiding the data of secret image
using Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) features based on linear Support Vector Machine (SVM)
classifier. The DCT features are used to decrease the image redundant information. Moreover, DCT is
used to embed the secrete message based on the least significant bits of the RGB. Each bit in the cover
image is changed only to the extent that is not seen by the eyes of human. The SVM used as a classifier to
speed up the hiding process via the DCT features. The proposed method is implemented and the results
show significant improvements. In addition, the performance analysis is calculated based on the
parameters MSE, PSNR, NC, processing time, capacity, and robustness.

Brain Image Fusion using DWT and Laplacian Pyramid Approach and Tumor Detecti...INFOGAIN PUBLICATION
Image fusion is the process of combining important information from two or more images into a single image. The resulting image will be more enhanced than any of the input pictures. The idea of combining multiple image modalities to furnish a single, more enhanced image is well established, special fusion methods have been proposed in literature. This paper is based on image fusion using laplacian pyramid and Discreet Wavelet Transform (DWT) methods. This system uses an easy and effective algorithm for multi-focus image fusion which uses fusion rules to create fused image. Subsequently, the fused image is obtained by applying inverse discreet wavelet transform. After fused image is obtained, watershed segmentation algorithm is applied to detect the tumor part in fused image.

core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the

Image
Registration:-It
is a process of overlying
of two or more images
of the same scene taken
at
different
times,
different
viewpoints
and/or
different
sensors.

4. Issues of Image Registration
Multimodal Registration
Registration of images of the same scene acquired from
different sensors.
Viewpoint Registration
Registration of images taken from different viewpoints.
Temporal Registration
Registration of images of same scene taken at different times
or under different conditions
5. Steps of Image Registration
B. Zitova, J. Flusser[1] introduced basic 4 steps
of image registration.

7. Previous Review Comments on
DPC-2 (21-Dec. 12)
Implement affine transformation and use mutual
information and plots its variations.
Identify standard image databases that will be used
for future work.
Identify recent registration approaches reported in
literature for future exploration during the next
review period.
8. Affine Transformation[1/4]
The affine transformation parameters can be
calculated by coordinates of control points, and then
geometrically transformation may be conducted for
registered image.
12. Entropy[1/7]
A
key measure of information is known as
entropy[2], which is usually expressed by average
amount of information received when the value of
random value X is observed (the average number of
bits needed to store or communicate one symbol in a
message).
Shannon introduced an adopted measure in 1948,
which weights the information per outcome by the
probability of that outcome occurring. Given events
occurring with probabilities
the Shannon entropy is defined as,
13. Entropy[2/7]
The units for entropy are “nats” when the natural
logarithm is used and “bits" for base 2 logarithms.
When all messages are equally likely to occur, the
entropy is maximal, because you are completely
uncertain which message you will receive.
When one of the messages has a much higher chance of
being sent than the other messages, the uncertainty
decreases.
The amount of information for the individual messages
that have a small chance of occurring is high, but an
average, the information (entropy/ uncertainty ) is lower.
14. Entropy[3/7]
14
Example:1.
Mummy-0.35, daddy-0.2, cat-0.2, cow-0.25
The entropy of child’s language-0.35 log(0.35)-0.2 log(0.2)-0.2 log(0.2)- 0.25
log(0.25)=1.96
Mummy- 0.05, daddy-0.05, cat- 0.02, train-0.02, car0.02, cookie-0.02, telly-0.02, no-0.8
The entropy of child’s language- 1.25
2.
15. Entropy[4/7]
15
Base on the distribution of the grey values of the
image[4], a probability distribution of grey values can be
estimated by counting the number of times each grey
value occurs in the image and dividing those numbers by
the total number of occurrences.
A single intensity of image will have a low entropy; it
contains very little information.
A high entropy value will be yielded by an image with
more or less equal quantities of many different
intensities, which is an image containing a lot of
information.
18. Entropy[7/7]
18
Entropy has three interpretations:
1.
The amount of information an event(message, grey value of a
point) gives when it takes place,
2.
The uncertainty about the outcome of an event, and
3.
The dispersion of the probabilities with which the events
take place.
19. Mutual Information[1/3]
Mutual
Information
(transformation)[1]
measures the amount of information that can be
obtained about one random variable by observing
another.
It is important in communication where it can be
used to maximize the amount of information shared
between sent and received signals.
A basic property of the mutual information is that
I(X;Y) = H(X) - H(X|Y)
Mutual information is the amount by which the uncertainty
about Y decrease when X is given: the amount of information
X contains about Y.
20. Mutual Information[2/3]
20
The second form of mutual information is most
closely related to joint entropy.
I(X:Y) = H(X) + H(Y) – H(X,Y)
-H(X,Y) means that maximizing mutual information
is related to minimizing joint entropy.
The advantage of mutual information over joint
entropy per se, is that it includes the entropies of the
separate images.
21. Mutual Information[3/3]
21
The final form of mutual information is based on Kullback-
Leibler distance[KLD][2]
Where SI (Specific mutual Information) is the point wise
mutual information.
The interpretation of this form is that it measures the distance
between the joint distribution of the images’ grey values p(x,
y) and the joint distribution in case of independence of the
images, p(x)p(y).
It is measure of dependence between two images.
If the testing images are well registered, then the value of KLD
becomes small or is equal to zero[17].

30. Conclusion
Image similarity is find based on entropy and mutual
information.
The entropy of an image is a measure of the amount
of uncertainty with gray values.
Mutual information measures the amount of
information, one image that can be obtained about
one random variable by observing another.
Entropy value is high image similarity is less. Mutual
information is maximum then image similarity is
high.
