Is Cimorene Justified In Dealing With Dragons
In the novel ,Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede, the main character, Cimorene runs away
from her parents because every time she wanted to do something her parents would say it's not done.
Cimorene got tired and bored because all she wanted to do was have fun but a princess had a strict
schedule. When her parents told her that she was to marry Prince Therindail, she denied the marriage
but her parents told her that it was already done. After a long time she was away from her home she
was a princess of Kazul,a dragon, she treated her very nice and didn't want to eat her like the other
dragons did. While being with all the dragons she met Alianora she was similar to Cimorene in
many ways. Cimorene is justified for ignoring the expected

Traditional Princessed From Snow White And The Traditional...
Growing up as a 90's child, Disney films played an important role in my childhood. As a female
viewer, Disney princesses played a bigger role in deciding which Disney films to watch. As the
years went on, new Disney princesses were introduced with different styles compared to the
traditional Disney princesses. A traditional Disney princess can be defined as one of the first
princesses Walt Disney created, specifically during the 20th century, and the newer princesses can
be defined as the princesses Disney created in the 21st century. Although Disney continues to create
princesses, the roles and views of the newer princesses in Disney movies have changed, as they are
seen as more independent, adventurous, and unfocused on finding their prince charming, compared
to the older traditional Disney princess films. In this essay, I will be comparing a traditional
princess, Snow White from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, with one of the recent princesses
Disney has introduced in recent years, Anna and Elsa from Frozen.
After Walt Disney acted out scenes of his movie idea to his co–workers, the production of Snow
White and the Seven Dwarfs began. Disney brought in real actors and real life animals to his studios
to have animators study and reproduce their movements in their film. With over 2000 pictures
created and cleaned by hundreds of workers and a million and a half dollars spent, Snow White and
the Seven Dwarfs was released in December of 1937 and received a standing ovation

Cimorene's Justification In The Stor Dealing With Dragons
In the stor Dealing with Dragons, an improper princess who hates her life in the kingdom
Linderwall. Cimorene is justified in ignoring expected social norms of the day because it did benefit
her life, but some people may disagree. First of all, Cimorene is justified in ignoring expected social
norms of the day. For example, "All in all, Linderwall was a very prosperous and pleasant place.
Cimorene hated it........ Cimorene found it very dull, but she pressed her lips together and learned it
anyway." (Wrede 1 and 2.) This shows that Cimorene is being forced into something that she does
not like, in which she instead finds very uninteresting. This is important because Cimorene's parents
force her into taking certain lessons that she hates, which is not right. In addition she is forced to
marry someone she hates," 'But I don't want to marry Prince ... Show more content on

For example, "As she washed her face and hands, she felt happier than she had for a long time. She
wasn't going to have to marry Therandil, and sorting a dragon's treasure sounds far more interesting
than dancing or embroidery." (Wrede 21.) This shows that Cimorene gets to do something she
enjoys and will not get lectured about it not being proper, and she would not have an engagement
with Therandil, the man she hates. This is of great importance since Cimorene has never been able
to fully enjoy anything that she has taken an interest to. In addition, she becomes the King of the
Dragon's acquaintance, "...There's a smallish cave next to the library that I think will do nicely for
you, but I'd like you to take a look at it before we start hauling things around." (Wrede 207.) This
proves that Kazul, the King of the Dragons, trust Cimorene because she gives her pretty involving
tasks. By having Kazul's trust, Cimorene will be able to get out of tough situations involving
dragons with the assistance of Kazul. Cimorene gained many things of great interest to her while she

Ella Enchanged and Cinderella
Contemporary young adult writers or filmmakers retells a classic story and develop ideas about how
and why current views of adolescents and what it takes to grow up might have changed over time.
Classic young adult literature questions certain topics like social, political, and the moral
convections and the way it impacts the way teens think about themselves. For example, two
contemporary young adult stories that have similarities and differences are Ella Enchanted and
Cinderella that can impact a teen's way of thinking mainly young girls but can influence boys as
well. For instance, Cinderella is a classic form of literature that develops ideas about adolescents. In
Cinderella, she was the only daughter of a wealthy man who had lost his wife. He remarries this
women who was extremely cruel and self–interested; along with her two daughters. They all
disliked Cinderella who was a very kindhearted and beautiful and resembled her mother. Her
stepmother and stepsisters ridiculed her and treated her like an outcast of the family, as if she was
taking up space. Cinderella devoted a lot of her time cleaning and doing all the chores around the
house. She was very obedient and her animal friends would often question on why she wouldn't just
stand up against her evil stepmother and stepsisters for herself and take what is rightfully hers.
However, Cinderella was a prisoner in her own life who was forbidden from any form of outside
activities. Ella Enchanted is a more moralized

Is Cimorene Justified In Dealing With Dragon
As an unknown author once said, running away from the problem only increases the distance from
the solution. The easiest way to escape from the problem is to solve it. Cimorene from the book
"Dealing with Dragons," a fantasy by Patricia Wrede did just that; she solved her own problem.
Cimorene was just an ordinary princess when she decided that she wanted to reject the expected
social norms. Her family expected her to marry Prince Therandil, but she was reluctant and did not
want to marry him because "he has no sense of humor, he isn't intelligent, he can't talk about
anything except tourneys, and half of what he does say he gets wrong." (page 6) When she says this,

Even though after she went to work, "There were two knights the following day, and four more after
that." (p. 28) Getting rid of all of them was very hard and "she was thoroughly disgusted and even
considered letting Kazul handle the knights from the on." (p. 28) Cimorene had many suitors trying
to rescue her to get the land her father offered, but since none were injured in trying, it wasn't a big
deal that she had ignored social norms. But after thinking about this for a while, she figured that
"someone might get hurt trying to rescue her..." (p. 28) Later that day, Prince Therandil arrived and
tried to rescue her. After a misunderstanding, he spluttered, "B–b–but I thought you said there had
been eight!" (p. 30) Cimorene was annoyed and said, " I said that eight had come by; I didn't say
they'd fought anybody. I sent them away." (p. 30) Thus proving that nobody was hurt. So even after
this, nobody was even injured and she was not responsible for anybody being

How Is Cimorene Justified In Dealing With Dragons
In the novel Dealing With Dragons ,by Patricia C.Wrede,Cimorene is not acting like a traditional
princess because she is taking risks like a knight would and she is not following the daily life of a
princess. In the beginning of the story Cimorene would rather do fencing lesson than do her regular

social norms of her day, because she would rather do things a real normal princess would not do.

Themes Of Feminism In Harriet The Spy
It is often questioned whether tween literature is too mature for its targeted age group. With themes
of murder, sexual abuse, neglect, and other forms of violence, both physical and psychological, there
seems to be one topic that is slightly more prevalent when speaking about tween literature. Tween
literature and culture is often marketed towards young girls and their parents, because of this, it
becomes easy to talk about themes of feminism in tween literature. More specifically, due to the
time period in which tween culture became mainstream, postfeminism is a topic that is often heavily
discussed around tween literature. Both Gail Levine's novel, Ella Enchanted, as well as Louise
Fitzhugh's novel Harriet the Spy, can both be analyzed using a postfeminist lense. By using a
postfeminist lense in analyzing these books, the issues of postfeminism become apparent when
addressing issues such as a false sense of choice for young girls, an idea that they must be ashamed
for who they are and the views that they hold. It is further complicated when it becomes apparent
that due to postfeminist ideology, women, and specifically young girls have lost the ability to
articulate sexism when it affects them. Through these points of contention regarding postfeminism,
it becomes aparent that society is not quite ready to hold postfeminist views, since there is still an
imbalance of power that women face on a day to day basis. It is important to have a baseline
understanding of what

The Influence of Chinese and Irish Laborers on the Transcontinental Railroad
The Chinese and Irish laborers answered strongly when asked to help build the Transcontinental
Railroad that connected the Pacific and the Atlantic Coasts. During the long process the immigrant
workers encountered harsh weather and living and working conditions. Their work produced the
Great Iron Trail in an incredibly short time with minimal resources and equipment. Their struggles
are often overlooked and their overseers credited with the building of the railroad. The Chinese and
Irish found what entertainment they could, often challenging each other to lay more track in one day
than the other. Both found a hostile country in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Irish had come from a hostile Boston in search of a place in the job market. They found an
equality they had been unable to find in New England (Potter 670; Howard 225). Although they
found jobs, few were very successful. A majority still lived in shantytowns and poverty even in
California.
The Civil War played a major role in who was hired and how the employees were chosen. The Civil
War began in 1861, two years before the groundbreaking to start the transcontinental railroad and
one year before the Great Railroad Act of 1862. The construction on the transcontinental railroad
was finished in 1869, four years after the end of the Civil War and six years after the
groundbreaking (Howard 126–143; website). The western and eastern railroad companies had
always depended on immigrant workers and with the start of the Civil War, this dependency was
even greater (Johnson and Supple 191). There was a shortage of white Americans willing to work
because they had either enlisted or been drafted into the war (Hogg 71; Howard 224). The Chinese
were forced into a servant's/slave's life. In some cases, white men imported Chinese laborers in
crowded ships, much like the African slaves, and "hired" at auctions (Hogg 72–73). The Chinese
were also looking for a way out of poverty and slavery and saw the transcontinental railroad as a
means of escape. During the Civil War, the wealthy were able to buy their way out of the draft,
leaving the poor to fight. The Irish

Essay About Cinderella
Myths and fairy tales have a way of sending an audience into a whole new world. Things are
happening that would seem crazy in real life. This new world is often something everyone wishes
they could be apart of. It triggers the creative side of the brain, and allows people to use their
imagination. Cinderella is one of the many fairy tales that allows people to be apart of a different
world.
According to Per Ankh, Cinderella first came about in Egypt around the first century BC. Rhodopis
a young maiden was born in Greece, but was kidnapped by pirates and carried to Egypt. Rhodopis
became a servant to an old man, where all the other servant girls would taunt her for having golden
curls instead of straight black hair. Because of the taunting, ... Show more content on

This is not true for Cinderella. Through all of the different adaptations, the message has been clear.
"It is about hope. Anyone who is going through hard times can look at Cinderella and hope that
someday they will be rewarded for enduring and rise" (Calero). Cinderella went through both of her
parents dying, her stepmom and sisters treating her like a servant, and yet she still remained loving
through it all. Even though she had all of the odds against her, she beat them. Today, people are
always hoping that times will get easier. Seeing a movie like Cinderella just reminds everyone that

Cimorene is justified in ignoring expected social norms of the day because it did benefit her life but
some people may disagree. First, Cimorene is justified in ignoring expected social norms of the day.
The text states, " 'Then I won't get married at all.' Both her parents looked slightly shocked," (Wrede

important because Cimorene is not a proper princess, when her parents told her to get married of
their choice she said NO. The book states, " 'I suppose there's no help for it. You'll have to run away.'
'Run away?' Cimorene said." (Wrede 11). This shows that Cimorene is going to run away. Then she

Dealing With Dragon Character Analysis
Dealing with Dragons
In the novel, Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wade, the main character Cimorene runs away
from home in hopes of getting away from all the rules of being proper. When she runs away she
goes to the enchanted forest where she meets Kazul and other dragons, and volunteers to be Kazul's
princess. then later her best friend Alianora ,the stone prince and her defeat of Woraug and how the
wizards how were planning to sabotage the trails so that Woraugcould win ,become king and give
the King's Crystal to the wizards so they could find all of the most magical treasure. In addition
athough Cimorene had run away from home to get away from being proper and acting kind to those
that she did not feel fond of for example Therindal, she did in fact act very princess like when she
was the of Kazul, the dragon.
In addition to the novel "Dealing with Dragons" there was an argument on whether Cimorene acted
in a princess–like manner or not. Also if she was justified for doing so or not.

How Is Cimorene Justified In Dealing With Dragons
In the novel, "Dealing with Dragons" written by Patricia C. Wrede, she discusses how a courageous
princess named, Cimorene, disappears from the formal Medieval society. More often than not,
Cimorene decides to go against the classic act of a princess. Throughout her adventures she faces
several mysterious events, and she became a dragon's princess. Cimorene was justified in ignoring
the expected social norms of the Medieval society because, women did not have many rights, she
wanted to become an independent princess who wanted to make her own decisions, and she was an
inspiration towards others.
First and foremost, in the Medieval Times many women did not have very many rights. Women

Cimorene and Alianora's friendship was slowly brought together by their independent personalities.
Eventually, Alianora became tired of the princesses, she associated with named, Hallanna and
Keredwel. She later departed from them and assembled a relationship with Cimorene, which is
stated in chapter five "...I just wanted to get away from them for a while. I hope you don't mind"
(66).This illustrates how she could be her inner self around Cimorene and not have to portray being
a "proper princess." This was beneficial because Alinora is taking advice from Cimorene about
being herself. Another example the author uses to express Alinora's independence, is through her
discussion with the Stone Prince, "You won't mind waiting a while to marry me? I mean, if you're
willing to marry me?"..... "It appeals to me very much." Alinora said, blushing redder than ever"
(203). This displays how Alinora has chosen not to follow society's rules as she has made a
resolution to select the person she shall marry instead of being a woman who followed the rules of
how she should act, be, and who she married. This was just like Cimorene when she chose not to
marry prince Therandil. She is developing these character traits from Cimorene, who as well does
not follow royalty directives. All in all, Cimorene inspires others to think for themselves and be

her life better but she also made someone's life successful. This also shows shows that Cimorene
turned into a better princess since she became a dragon's princess. " 'I'm too young to get married' "
(Wrede 7). This proves that it benefitted her life because if Cimorene had gotten married to Prince
Therandil, the story wouldn't have been the same and she would not have been living the life she

In the castle of Linderwall, she was "...educated in various affairs that were to serve her in later

"There was a great deal of etiquette, from the proper way to curtsy before visiting a prince to how
loudly it was permissible to scream when carried off by a giant... She would go down to the castle
armsmaster into giving her a fencing lesson." Because of her oppressive, stubborn parents,
Cimorene would often get tired of what they told her and would do something else that was more
entertaining. Fencing lessons aren't dangerous as long as precautions are taken. Cimorene did take
precautions because she seeked the armsmaster who was a professional that would take care of her.
Moreover, Cimorene had to fix the "...affairs of the state" and obey to whatever a man would tell
her. They were "..embroiled in politics... and social pressures of the time...,even though medieval
times were mainly dominated by men." It isn't fair to be judged based upon one's appearance or
"inadmissible" actions. The clothes that Cimorene wore were appropriate, and the way she acts is
responsible since she hasn't gotten in any trouble. Basically, the reason that women wouldn't be able
to move on and make their own decisions is because men suppressed them from being independent,
but Cimorene did the opposite and was tenacious to what she believed in. To summarize, a princess

Princess Cimorene Dealing With Dragon Quotes
In the novel, Dealing with Dragons, by Patricia Wrede, Princess Cimorene does not follow the tenets
of her Medieval society. She is not justified in doing this because princesses are required to marry
the prince their parents arrange, princesses are only allowed to be involved in tame activities in their
free time, and are expected to participate in kingdom politics. In the Medieval Ages, princesses were
required to marry the man of their parents choosing. Cimorene's father hoped to ally with the
kingdom "Sathem by the Mountains" by marrying his daughter, Princess Cimorene to Prince
Therandil. However, Cimorene was horrified by their choice for her, and she forfeited her duties and
ran away to be a dragon's princess. According to Source 2, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Source 2 says,"...the life of a Medieval princess was not detached from the turbulent political affairs
of the time. Instead, more often than not, she actively participated in the politics and the affairs of

Princess Cimorene walks out on this important duty, and therefore the court has one person missing
from the court. This could manipulate the outcome of anything the council does or votes on.
Princesses in the Medieval times also had the job of giving charity. According to Source 2, "One of
the most important roles of a Medieval princess was dispensation of charity which was considered
her participation in social life. For this, various social events could be held, or charity could simply
be given to the poor on regular basis." Charity was immensely helpful to kingdom life. Cimorene
also abandoned this duty of hers. Since she did this, she has no participation in Linderwall's social
life, and the peasants in her kingdom might become famished because they can't afford food. To

How Does Cimorene Deal With A Dragon
In the novel "Dealing with Dragons" by Patricia C. Wrede, the princess Cimorene was not the
average princess. She was not a "perfect" princess and did not want to live a perfect princess's life.
Cimorene ran away to devote her life to be the princess of a dragon, due to her not wanting to marry
prince Therandil and loathed her life in the castle. Cimorene was expected to maintain this
unendurable lifestyle, because her parents and nation expected her to. Cimorene was justified in
ignoring the expected norms of medieval society because she had more freedom, more power, and
she didn't have to stress overruling a kingdom. Furthermore, Cimorene had more freedom to do
what she fancied when she was not following the social norms of the ... Show more content on

In the Medieval Ages princesses did not have a lot of power. If a Queen had different beliefs than a
King the nation would go with what the King believed. This was, because in the Medieval Ages men
had more power than women. When she lived in the castle no one listened to what Cimorene
wanted. "'That depends entirely on what she says. Tell us about it, princess,'Kazul commanded."
(199). This shows how Kazul actually gave Cimorene a chance to talk. Kazul valued Cimorene's
opinion and took her word over another dragon's word. It was better for Cimorene to be Kazul's
princess, because Kazul was a very compassionate, genial, and gallant. These were not the only
reasons she was extraordinary, but she was also an amazing friend. She was an amazing friend to
Cimorene and always stood up for her and always listened to her. In addition, Cimorene didn't have
as much stress as she was living in the castle than working for Kazul because she had less
responsibilities. Cimorene was able to enjoy living with Kazul, because Kazul was not belligerent to
Cimorene instead she was a very sympathetic dragon. While she lived with Kazul she had daily
chores, but she did not have to be a 'proper princess'. She didn't have to act or be proper when she
lived with Kazul. When she was under Kazul's ruling she did not have to live up to high
expectations. During the Medieval Ages Princesses

Trope In Enchanted
Adults historically love to glorify the idealism and emotionality of childhood through storytelling.
From Mark Twain's perennial wild boy Huckleberry Finn, who befriends a runaway slave despite
the prejudices of adult society, to Hiccup of the 2010 film How to Train Your Dragon, the only one
of his village who recognizes that dragons are not evil but actually kind animals, American media
has no shortage of children who are somehow able to see more than their adult counterparts. Patricia
Read Russell's 1983 essay "Parallel Romantic Fantasies: Barrie's Peter Pan and Spielberg's E.T.: The
Extraterrestrial" traces the echos of the 1904 play Peter Pan in Spielberg's then recent film, E.T. and
one of the parallels she highlights is this very concept. Russell borrows from Wordsworth in her
essay to concisely describe the trope of a child's ability to see more clearly than adults, referring to it
as the "visionary gleam". Russell's essay underlines the presence of this trope in E. T.'s protagonist,
a ten–year–old boy named Elliot, and in his bond with the title character, a friendly lost alien. Over
twenty–five years later, the same trope is explored in Disney's parody film Enchanted but through
the lense of a young girl. The concept of the "visionary gleam" of childhood perpetuated by
Spielberg's film and Enchanted reflects an inherent desire of adults to return to a simpler, more
emotionally driven period of their lives which may or may not have actually existed, and this

Dealing With Dragon Quotes
Dealing with Dragons In the novel Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede, the main character
Cimorene is a princess that doesn't pursue the quintessential princess role in the kingdom.
Cimorene's parents did not even respect or value her. Additionally she want to learn new things, but
her society does not allow females to pursue them. Finally, she is being forced to marry a prince
whom she does not respect. For these reasons Cimorene is justified in ignoring the expected social
norms of her day. On the other hand, others feel that Cimorene should put her kingdom first and the
welfare of her people above her own pleasures. However, Cimorene is not allowed to pursue things
that could help her kingdom such as being the excellent ambassador she became in the Mountains of
Morning. First, Cimorene should not be forced to be like her sisters when her parents constantly
compare her to them and ridicule her. On page 2, it says, "Her ... Show more content on

Considering that Cimorene was a satirical princess, most things weren't fitting for her. For instance,
her parents were insisting she marry a prince she did not know, love, or respect. In the novel on page
7, Cimorene said, 'I don't want to marry prince Therandil." This confirms that Cimorene was not a
normal princess judging by her actions. Also this shows that she was justified for leaving Linderwall
since that was her only option in getting out of the marriage..She expressed her feelings to her
parents, but princesses then in that era didn't have a say. Later, she was very frustrated about the
forced marriage. On page 9 she exclaimed, "I'd rather be eaten by a dragon!" This shows her
desperation to leave the kingdom. This also shows that she preferred death over a life not worth
living. The frog gave her a way to get out of the marriage and still be happy. This is when Cimorene

Dealing With Dragons Character Analysis
In the novel, Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede, the main character, Cimorene helps defeat
the evil wizards from getting control over the King's crystal that will show where every piece of
useful and interesting magic is in the world. Cimorene escaped because everyone said her behavior
isn't proper or it isn't done. Cimorene and Alianora both played a role to help defeat the wizards. She
went to the dragon's cave and became Cimorene the princess of dragon Kazul. When Cimorene went
to the Caves of Fire and Night she ran into a prince made of stone; he helped them find out what the
wizards wanted. They poured water with lemon juice and soap on the wizards and they melted,
shortly Kazul became the king of dragons. Cimorene is not following the social norms of a medieval

In Cimorene's Father's kingdom women are supposed to be proper and the men have to be brave. In
the Dragons monarchy is different because females could be the King and it didn't matter if you
were female or male to have power. However, in most medieval kingdoms women did not have that
kind of power so living in a Dragon's Kingdom fits someone like Cimorene much better than where
she came from. This is how gender plays a role in Dealing with Dragons. Cimorene does not act like
an average princess, but is upheld for her actions, and Alinora acts like a medieval princess more
than Cimorene, but is still true to herself. "Im widely considered to be unduly suspicious of
everyone and everything." Kazul said in a dry tone. "Particularly wizards."(106) Others may say that
Cimorene acts like a princess when being sweet to Antorell so that he wouldn't know what they were
doing there. In conclusion, from the evidence in the text, it is proven that Cimorene doesn't act like a

How Is Cimorene Justified In Dealing With Dragons
In the story Dealing with Dragons, Patricia Wrede tells the tale of an intelligent and improper
princess who is expected to be a proper princess. In this fictional story set in Medieval times, there
is a kingdom called Linderwall. Infact, Linderwall is the same kingdom that the princess, Cimorene,
lives. Cimorene is justified in ignoring expected social norms of the day because it did benefit her
life, but some people may disagree. First of all, Cimorene is justified in ignoring expected social
norms of the day because if she did not she would be very bored and unhappy all of the time. In the
story, Cimorene says, "`Boring. I want to do things, not sit all day and listen to the court minstrel
make up songs about how brave Daddy is and how lovely his wife and daughters are,`"(Wrede 5).
This is important because it shows how Cimorene is felt while she was in Linderwall. This also
important because it could give her a reason to run away. Also, the story says, "`But what about the
engagement?` the lady–in–waiting cried, horrified. `What engagement?` Cimorene said sharply,"
(Wrede 6) and, "But I don't want to marry Prince Therandil,` Cimorene said,"(Wrede 7). This means
that Cimorene was not supposed to know about the engagement, and when ... Show more content on

many different occasions. The story explains, "She looked up and saw an enormous white bird

was attacked by a bird and almost died. This proves that Cimorene's father was just trying to protect
her from the creatures lurking in the Enchanted Forest. Disagreeing with my thesis is totally
reasonable. Saying that Cimorene was not justified can be supported just as well as saying that she

The Transcontinental Train Essay
"The Transcontinental Train"

Today I look back at my home. Or to put it correctly, what used to be my home. The Americans and
their hired Chinese and Irish men are, as we speak, running the tracks down that divide our land.
Not theirs, but our land. These people are laying down tracks separating our lives as we speak. Our
entire way of operating will be destroyed. And it doesn't seem like it only affected their side, but our
American side as well. They can now possibly be viewed as a greedy nation for the ill–treatment of
all those immigrants. It seems the idea of The Transcontinental Railroad has more downs that ups;

out of their labor, when in fact, they are doing these people a favor. And to know that they do not
even care for the health of their workers, makes me feel sick. While building a tunnel through a
mountain, it collapsed. This killed off a good percentage of the workers the Americans hired.

The Walt Disney Princesses And The Impact Of Diversity
Diversity, at least in theory, means that everyone of every race/gender/sexual orientation is included,
but not as a stereotype. This was not the case in the past. In the year 1937, Walt Disney released its
first full–length animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. There was less sense of
"political correctness," such as caring about diversity, or worrying about the message being sent to
young children, especially girls. There were no protests, and everyone accepted the movie "as is". In
2008, the movie Tropic Thunder came out, with the "PC culture" starting to gain traction, and used
the word "retard". This word became part of society even more so than it had before, and many
people who knew someone who was actually, medically retarded, got upset. Now, in 2017, there are
at least eleven Official Disney Princesses, and a very definite "PC culture". Society has changed a
lot, even from 2008, and companies that specialize in pop culture have a social responsibility to
make sure everyone is included, but in a respectful way. Princesses, especially Disney princesses,
are usually a big part of a little girl's childhood. With new princesses, we are getting a more active
and much less passive group of young adult girls. However, the old movies, because they are
beloved movies, often from parents' childhood, are still shown often. When just shown, with no
explanation that these are old, outdated values, children can start get the wrong message. Snow

Dealing With Dragon Quotes
In the satirical novel "Dealing With dragons" by Patricia C. Wrede, the main character by the name
of Cimorene, is no ordinary medieval princess. She is an adventurous girl who runs away from her
familial and societal obligation. She joins forces with a fierce, kind, and powerful dragon named
Kazul. Cimorene was justified in ignoring the social norms of medieval society because Cimorene is
not satisfied with her life, finally she has hit her breaking point, and unlike every other princess
cimorene has a mind of her own and is very independent. In addition, one of the reasons that
cimorene is justified by going against medieval times' social norms is because she simply wasn't
fulfilled with her life in "Linderwall." According to the text Cimorene wants to take lessons which
are not normal for a princess to take and she feels ,"It is of the utmost importance to my life and
future happiness." (p.4) This shows that Cimorene is not the average princess and she doesn't want
to live up to everyone's expectations of her. This also illustrates that cimorene doesn't enjoy being a
medieval princess in medieval times. As shown above Cimorene wants fun an adventurous life with
things to do, and doesn't want to learn what every other does she wants to take lessons and enjoy her
life while she's young. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

because it is the beginning of how she thinks about running away. '"Boring, I want to do things, not

Arguments In Dealing With Dragons
While reading the novel, "Dealing with Dragons", by Patricia C. Wrede, one could ask if someone
like Cimorene, a princess in the story, should be justified if they go against what expectations are
made of them and why that should ever be approved of. However, Cimorene was completely
justified in ignoring the social norms of her day because it is very clear that she was never content
with being a princess in that kingdom, she was only truly happy in living an "improper" life away
from her heredity, and she is far more intelligent than most men, yet she is still treated like a lesser
human being while in her kingdom that proves to only be keeping her behind from accomplishing
great things. In the novel, "Dealing with Dragons", it is made very clear that Cimorene immensely
loathes being a princess in the Kingdom of Linderwall because of the social norms that she is forced
to abide by. The author states," 'Then what, exactly is your problem?"...'This!' Cimorene gestured at
the castle around her. 'Embroidery lessons, and dancing, and–and being a princess!". This event
occurs when Cimorene fairy godmother comes to the castle for a visit. Cimorene blatantly states that
everything involved in her life is exactly her problem and because that, one can find that she was
justified to run away from a life that she despises. Furthermore, this shows that Cimorene had a
motive to run away from what would be an inexorable marriage because of her parents and that she

Impact Of Westward Expansion
Westward Expansion was the desire of America to control the territories of western parts of America
that were either unclaimed or occupied by other nations. It is pertinent to discern that England
influenced the United States in diverse ways. In the second half of 18th century, the railroad which
that was invented in England brought a significant impact in the United States expansion to the
West. Railroads originated from England. England had a dense populace, substantial financial
resources and short distances between its cities. Conversely, in America the story was different. It
had a sparse population, few financial resources and considerable distances between cities in a vast
country. The transcontinental railroad mainly increased Westward Expansion in the US during
1860–90.
Westward Expansion is perceived as the central theme of the history of America during the 18th
century and as the primary factor in American history shaping. The most significant influence or
force that shaped American society and democracy is the availability of vast free land in the West
which affected the American culture profoundly. Drives after the revolution, the Western parts of
United States were opened up by the winning of independence that resulted in the steady flow of
migrants to the Mississippi valley. The far west was a region of high mountains, strange rock
formations, brilliant colors, deserts and immense distance. The discovery of paths made it possible
for migration to the west of United States as the ox–driven carts could cruise through the mountains
and across the desert (Roza, 2011). It should be noted that at this time persons had the desire of
moving out of the overcrowded cities to settle in the uninhabited lands in the west of US.
Consequently, there was the development of infrastructure to the west. Railroads were constructed
that linked the west and east of United States. This was accompanied by mushrooming of cities
towards the west as constructions of communication lines were ongoing (Quay, 2002).
The construction of infrastructure that was extended from the East to the West paved the way for
more migration to the west. The settlers occupied the uninhabited land in the west and commenced
developing it.

Examples Of Princess Cimorene In Dealing With Dragons
In the novel, Dealing With Dragons, by Patricia C. Wrede, Princess Cimorene was justified in
dismissing the social standards of her day because in the novel, she escapes from her previous life as
a proper princess, to soon enjoy her new life as princess to the King of Dragons, as well as saving
their kind from corruption by the dragon, Woraug, and the wizards. At the beginning of the novel,
Cimorene is shown disregarding the activities that her parents allow her to do. The activities chosen
for Cimorene are standard things for princesses such as herself, but she wants to do something more
fun and exciting, creating an interesting juxtaposition between her and her sisters. "'Embroidery
lessons, and dancing, and– and being a princess!' 'My dear Cimorene!' the fairy said, shocked. 'It's
your heritage!' 'It's boring.'" Furthermore, Cimorene literally says that she loathes being a princess
because of how monotonous everything is. Her fairy godmother is shocked by Cimorene's choices,
not sure how to help her with her problem. Cimorene was supposed to be like her sisters, but she
came out obedient instead, defying while also going below their standards. Secondly, Cimorene
repeatedly managed to get out of her recommended activities to sneak herself into the lessons she
wants, like cooking. Cimorene's parents constantly had to manually stop her from doing these
activities that she chose. "The same thing happened over the Latin lessons from the court

Is Cimorene Justified In Dealing With Dragons

  • 1. Is Cimorene Justified In Dealing With Dragons In the novel ,Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede, the main character, Cimorene runs away from her parents because every time she wanted to do something her parents would say it's not done. Cimorene got tired and bored because all she wanted to do was have fun but a princess had a strict schedule. When her parents told her that she was to marry Prince Therindail, she denied the marriage but her parents told her that it was already done. After a long time she was away from her home she was a princess of Kazul,a dragon, she treated her very nice and didn't want to eat her like the other dragons did. • 3. Traditional Princessed From Snow White And The Traditional... Growing up as a 90's child, Disney films played an important role in my childhood. As a female viewer, Disney princesses played a bigger role in deciding which Disney films to watch. As the years went on, new Disney princesses were introduced with different styles compared to the traditional Disney princesses. A traditional Disney princess can be defined as one of the first princesses Walt Disney created, specifically during the 20th century, and the newer princesses can be defined as the princesses Disney created in the 21st century. Although Disney continues to create princesses, the roles and views of the newer princesses in Disney movies have changed, as they are seen as more independent, adventurous, and unfocused on finding their prince charming, compared to the older traditional Disney princess films. In this essay, I will be comparing a traditional princess, Snow White from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, with one of the recent princesses Disney has introduced in recent years, Anna and Elsa from Frozen. After Walt Disney acted out scenes of his movie idea to his co–workers, the production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs began. Disney brought in real actors and real life animals to his studios to have animators study and reproduce their movements in their film. With over 2000 pictures created and cleaned by hundreds of workers and a million and a half dollars spent, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released in December of 1937 and received a standing ovation ... • 5. Cimorene's Justification In The Stor Dealing With Dragons In the stor Dealing with Dragons, an improper princess who hates her life in the kingdom Linderwall. Cimorene is justified in ignoring expected social norms of the day because it did benefit her life, but some people may disagree. First of all, Cimorene is justified in ignoring expected social norms of the day. For example, "All in all, Linderwall was a very prosperous and pleasant place. Cimorene hated it........ Cimorene found it very dull, but she pressed her lips together and learned it anyway." (Wrede 1 and 2.) This shows that Cimorene is being forced into something that she does not like, in which she instead finds very uninteresting. This is important because Cimorene's parents force her into taking certain lessons that she hates, which is not right. In addition she is forced to marry someone she hates," 'But I don't want to marry Prince ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, "As she washed her face and hands, she felt happier than she had for a long time. She wasn't going to have to marry Therandil, and sorting a dragon's treasure sounds far more interesting than dancing or embroidery." (Wrede 21.) This shows that Cimorene gets to do something she enjoys and will not get lectured about it not being proper, and she would not have an engagement with Therandil, the man she hates. This is of great importance since Cimorene has never been able to fully enjoy anything that she has taken an interest to. In addition, she becomes the King of the Dragon's acquaintance, "...There's a smallish cave next to the library that I think will do nicely for you, but I'd like you to take a look at it before we start hauling things around." (Wrede 207.) This proves that Kazul, the King of the Dragons, trust Cimorene because she gives her pretty involving tasks. By having Kazul's trust, Cimorene will be able to get out of tough situations involving dragons with the assistance of Kazul. Cimorene gained many things of great interest to her while she ran ... • 7. Ella Enchanged and Cinderella Contemporary young adult writers or filmmakers retells a classic story and develop ideas about how and why current views of adolescents and what it takes to grow up might have changed over time. Classic young adult literature questions certain topics like social, political, and the moral convections and the way it impacts the way teens think about themselves. For example, two contemporary young adult stories that have similarities and differences are Ella Enchanted and Cinderella that can impact a teen's way of thinking mainly young girls but can influence boys as well. For instance, Cinderella is a classic form of literature that develops ideas about adolescents. In Cinderella, she was the only daughter of a wealthy man who had lost his wife. He remarries this women who was extremely cruel and self–interested; along with her two daughters. They all disliked Cinderella who was a very kindhearted and beautiful and resembled her mother. Her stepmother and stepsisters ridiculed her and treated her like an outcast of the family, as if she was taking up space. Cinderella devoted a lot of her time cleaning and doing all the chores around the house. She was very obedient and her animal friends would often question on why she wouldn't just stand up against her evil stepmother and stepsisters for herself and take what is rightfully hers. However, Cinderella was a prisoner in her own life who was forbidden from any form of outside activities. Ella Enchanted is a more moralized ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Is Cimorene Justified In Dealing With Dragon As an unknown author once said, running away from the problem only increases the distance from the solution. The easiest way to escape from the problem is to solve it. Cimorene from the book "Dealing with Dragons," a fantasy by Patricia Wrede did just that; she solved her own problem. Cimorene was just an ordinary princess when she decided that she wanted to reject the expected social norms. Her family expected her to marry Prince Therandil, but she was reluctant and did not want to marry him because "he has no sense of humor, he isn't intelligent, he can't talk about anything except tourneys, and half of what he does say he gets wrong." (page 6) When she says this, her parents are flustered. She tries her best to seem apologetic, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though after she went to work, "There were two knights the following day, and four more after that." (p. 28) Getting rid of all of them was very hard and "she was thoroughly disgusted and even considered letting Kazul handle the knights from the on." (p. 28) Cimorene had many suitors trying to rescue her to get the land her father offered, but since none were injured in trying, it wasn't a big deal that she had ignored social norms. But after thinking about this for a while, she figured that "someone might get hurt trying to rescue her..." (p. 28) Later that day, Prince Therandil arrived and tried to rescue her. After a misunderstanding, he spluttered, "B–b–but I thought you said there had been eight!" (p. 30) Cimorene was annoyed and said, " I said that eight had come by; I didn't say they'd fought anybody. I sent them away." (p. 30) Thus proving that nobody was hurt. So even after this, nobody was even injured and she was not responsible for anybody being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. How Is Cimorene Justified In Dealing With Dragons In the novel Dealing With Dragons ,by Patricia C.Wrede,Cimorene is not acting like a traditional princess because she is taking risks like a knight would and she is not following the daily life of a princess. In the beginning of the story Cimorene would rather do fencing lesson than do her regular lesson.Cimorene finds her regular lessons boring. Cimorene is justified in ignoring the expected social norms of her day, because she would rather do things a real normal princess would not do. Additionally Cimorene made her choice to become a dragon's princess due to her uncomfortable situation at home. Her choice to become a dragon's princess is a fitting occupation, for someone of her position, and yet her non–traditional personality. On (pgs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therandil told the Jinn,"his wish was to defeat a dragon and win his princess's hand in marriage. For instance the Jinn waved a dark hand over Therandil head. When the Jinn was done he said,"there when next thou dost fight a dragon ,thou shalt surely defeat him. Cimorene then told the Jinn,"I can use some powered hens' teeth and the Jinn blinked in surprise, but he waved his hand again ,his face a mask of concentration". Then he bowed and handed Cimorene a brown jar. Then the Jinn said,"there's thy desire farewell and within an elaborate salaam the Jinn then dissolved back into a cloud of smoke and into the jar he came from. Then Cimorene went to tell Alianora," that she got the Jinn to give them powered hens' teeth ,so they can finally try the fireproofing spell". Alianora wanted to try the spell once Cimorene told her about it . Then Cimorene got out the spell and ingredients she collected. • 15. Themes Of Feminism In Harriet The Spy It is often questioned whether tween literature is too mature for its targeted age group. With themes of murder, sexual abuse, neglect, and other forms of violence, both physical and psychological, there seems to be one topic that is slightly more prevalent when speaking about tween literature. Tween literature and culture is often marketed towards young girls and their parents, because of this, it becomes easy to talk about themes of feminism in tween literature. More specifically, due to the time period in which tween culture became mainstream, postfeminism is a topic that is often heavily discussed around tween literature. Both Gail Levine's novel, Ella Enchanted, as well as Louise Fitzhugh's novel Harriet the Spy, can both be analyzed using a postfeminist lense. By using a postfeminist lense in analyzing these books, the issues of postfeminism become apparent when addressing issues such as a false sense of choice for young girls, an idea that they must be ashamed for who they are and the views that they hold. It is further complicated when it becomes apparent that due to postfeminist ideology, women, and specifically young girls have lost the ability to articulate sexism when it affects them. Through these points of contention regarding postfeminism, it becomes aparent that society is not quite ready to hold postfeminist views, since there is still an imbalance of power that women face on a day to day basis. It is important to have a baseline understanding of what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Influence Of Chinese And Irish Laborers On The... The Influence of Chinese and Irish Laborers on the Transcontinental Railroad The Chinese and Irish laborers answered strongly when asked to help build the Transcontinental Railroad that connected the Pacific and the Atlantic Coasts. During the long process the immigrant workers encountered harsh weather and living and working conditions. Their work produced the Great Iron Trail in an incredibly short time with minimal resources and equipment. Their struggles are often overlooked and their overseers credited with the building of the railroad. The Chinese and Irish found what entertainment they could, often challenging each other to lay more track in one day than the other. Both found a hostile country in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Irish had come from a hostile Boston in search of a place in the job market. They found an equality they had been unable to find in New England (Potter 670; Howard 225). Although they found jobs, few were very successful. A majority still lived in shantytowns and poverty even in California. The Civil War played a major role in who was hired and how the employees were chosen. The Civil War began in 1861, two years before the groundbreaking to start the transcontinental railroad and one year before the Great Railroad Act of 1862. The construction on the transcontinental railroad was finished in 1869, four years after the end of the Civil War and six years after the groundbreaking (Howard 126–143; website). The western and eastern railroad companies had always depended on immigrant workers and with the start of the Civil War, this dependency was even greater (Johnson and Supple 191). There was a shortage of white Americans willing to work because they had either enlisted or been drafted into the war (Hogg 71; Howard 224). The Chinese were forced into a servant's/slave's life. In some cases, white men imported Chinese laborers in crowded ships, much like the African slaves, and "hired" at auctions (Hogg 72–73). The Chinese were also looking for a way out of poverty and slavery and saw the transcontinental railroad as a means of escape. During the Civil War, the wealthy were able to buy their way out of the draft, leaving the poor to fight. The Irish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wrede, she discusses how a courageous princess named, Cimorene, disappears from the formal Medieval society. More often than not, Cimorene decides to go against the classic act of a princess. Throughout her adventures she faces several mysterious events, and she became a dragon's princess. Cimorene was justified in ignoring the expected social norms of the Medieval society because, women did not have many rights, she wanted to become an independent princess who wanted to make her own decisions, and she was an inspiration towards others. First and foremost, in the Medieval Times many women did not have very many rights. Women were to abide by the rules given to them, and nothing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She later departed from them and assembled a relationship with Cimorene, which is stated in chapter five "...I just wanted to get away from them for a while. I hope you don't mind" (66).This illustrates how she could be her inner self around Cimorene and not have to portray being a "proper princess." This was beneficial because Alinora is taking advice from Cimorene about being herself. Another example the author uses to express Alinora's independence, is through her discussion with the Stone Prince, "You won't mind waiting a while to marry me? I mean, if you're willing to marry me?"..... "It appeals to me very much." Alinora said, blushing redder than ever" (203). This displays how Alinora has chosen not to follow society's rules as she has made a resolution to select the person she shall marry instead of being a woman who followed the rules of how she should act, be, and who she married. This was just like Cimorene when she chose not to marry prince Therandil. She is developing these character traits from Cimorene, who as well does not follow royalty directives. In the novel, she ignores what the Medieval society hopes to see from her as a "proper" princess, no matter how many times she is implored to renounce her selection of ideas. Because of Cimorene point of view, she was justified in ignoring the expected social norms of her day since women should be free to apply their intelligence, be allowed to do whatever they want as long as they take considerable actions , and choose marriage only if they decide to. She would go down to the castle armsmaster into giving her a fencing lesson." Because of her oppressive, stubborn parents, Cimorene would often get tired of what they told her and would do something else that was more entertaining. She is not justified in doing this because princesses are required to marry the prince their parents arrange, princesses are only allowed to be involved in tame activities in their free time, and are expected to participate in kingdom politics. In the Medieval Ages, princesses were required to marry the man of their parents choosing. Cimorene's father hoped to ally with the kingdom "Sathem by the Mountains" by marrying his daughter, Princess Cimorene to Prince Therandil. Princess Cimorene walks out on this important duty, and therefore the court has one person missing from the court. This could manipulate the outcome of anything the council does or votes on. • 43. Trope In Enchanted Adults historically love to glorify the idealism and emotionality of childhood through storytelling. From Mark Twain's perennial wild boy Huckleberry Finn, who befriends a runaway slave despite the prejudices of adult society, to Hiccup of the 2010 film How to Train Your Dragon, the only one of his village who recognizes that dragons are not evil but actually kind animals, American media has no shortage of children who are somehow able to see more than their adult counterparts. Patricia Read Russell's 1983 essay "Parallel Romantic Fantasies: Barrie's Peter Pan and Spielberg's E.T.: The Extraterrestrial" traces the echos of the 1904 play Peter Pan in Spielberg's then recent film, E.T. and one of the parallels she highlights is this very concept. Russell borrows from Wordsworth in her essay to concisely describe the trope of a child's ability to see more clearly than adults, referring to it as the "visionary gleam". Russell's essay underlines the presence of this trope in E. T.'s protagonist, a ten–year–old boy named Elliot, and in his bond with the title character, a friendly lost alien. Over twenty–five years later, the same trope is explored in Disney's parody film Enchanted but through the lense of a young girl. The concept of the "visionary gleam" of childhood perpetuated by Spielberg's film and Enchanted reflects an inherent desire of adults to return to a simpler, more emotionally driven period of their lives which may or may not have actually existed, and this ... • 58. The Walt Disney Princesses And The Impact Of Diversity Diversity, at least in theory, means that everyone of every race/gender/sexual orientation is included, but not as a stereotype. This was not the case in the past. In the year 1937, Walt Disney released its first full–length animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. There was less sense of "political correctness," such as caring about diversity, or worrying about the message being sent to young children, especially girls. There were no protests, and everyone accepted the movie "as is". In 2008, the movie Tropic Thunder came out, with the "PC culture" starting to gain traction, and used the word "retard". This word became part of society even more so than it had before, and many people who knew someone who was actually, medically retarded, got upset. Now, in 2017, there are at least eleven Official Disney Princesses, and a very definite "PC culture". Society has changed a lot, even from 2008, and companies that specialize in pop culture have a social responsibility to make sure everyone is included, but in a respectful way. Princesses, especially Disney princesses, are usually a big part of a little girl's childhood. With new princesses, we are getting a more active and much less passive group of young adult girls. However, the old movies, because they are beloved movies, often from parents' childhood, are still shown often. When just shown, with no explanation that these are old, outdated values, children can start get the wrong message. Snow White, Cinderella, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. Dealing With Dragon Quotes In the satirical novel "Dealing With dragons" by Patricia C. Wrede, the main character by the name of Cimorene, is no ordinary medieval princess. She is an adventurous girl who runs away from her familial and societal obligation. She joins forces with a fierce, kind, and powerful dragon named Kazul. Cimorene was justified in ignoring the social norms of medieval society because Cimorene is not satisfied with her life, finally she has hit her breaking point, and unlike every other princess cimorene has a mind of her own and is very independent. In addition, one of the reasons that cimorene is justified by going against medieval times' social norms is because she simply wasn't fulfilled with her life in "Linderwall." According to the text Cimorene wants to take lessons which are not normal for a princess to take and she feels ,"It is of the utmost importance to my life and future happiness." (p.4) This shows that Cimorene is not the average princess and she doesn't want to live up to everyone's expectations of her. This also illustrates that cimorene doesn't enjoy being a medieval princess in medieval times. As shown above Cimorene wants fun an adventurous life with things to do, and doesn't want to learn what every other does she wants to take lessons and enjoy her life while she's young. ... • 62. How Is Cimorene Justified In Dealing With Dragons In the story, Dealing With Dragons, Patricia Wrede tells the tale of an improper princess who ignores the social norms of her day. In the fictional story set in Medieval times, a princess takes advice from a frog to run away and her journey has many adventures in it. Cimorene is justified in ignoring expected social norms of the day because it benefitted her life but some people may disagree. First, Cimorene is justified in ignoring expected social norms of the day. "All in all, Linderwall was a very prosperous and pleasant place, Cimorene hated it." (Wrede,1). This is important because Cimorene wants to be normal and not treated so royal. This also is important because it is the beginning of how she thinks about running away. '"Boring, I want to do things, not sit around all day and listen to the court minstrel make up songs about how brave Daddy is and how lovely his wife and daughters are."' (Wrede, 5). This shows that Cimorene wants freedom and fun. She is the type of princess who likes to explore, so living with dragons could be a change. Overall, Cimorene would be better living a happier life outside of Linderwall. When she ignores her duty of being a proper princess it is shown she is justified because a princess does the ... This shows how Cimorene is happy that she is Kazul's princess instead of being a proper princess living in a kingdom. This also shows how Cimorene does not have to take embroidery lessons and dancing lessons. '"This place suits me very well."' (Wrede, 26). The quote refers to how she is happy being Kazul's princess and does not want to be rescued like the other princesses. This proves that she gets to do better things with dragons than in a kingdom. In conclusion, if she did not run away, Cimorene might not be happy and be forced to marry Prince ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a movie about a young girl whose stepmother, the queen, fears Snow White will be more beautiful than she is. The Queen tries to get rid of Snow White by having her killed. When this fails the queen goes after Snow White herself. Many people view Disney princesses as good role models for young children. Disney princesses are not good role models. Disney princesses make it seem like it is okay to disobey your parents, their goals are usually centered around getting a spouse, and many of them are incapable of rescuing and protecting themselves. Disney princesses often disobey their parents but do not get realistic repercussions. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then, with the help of her fairy godmother, Cinderella goes to the ball herself (00:48:02–00:55:33), disobeying her stepmother. This is not always the case. Frozen is one instance where princesses listen to their parents. Elsa's parents tell her to conceal her magic (00:09:01–00:09:07). Elsa is able to follow this for years after her parents have passed away. Keeping her magic contained for so long made it more difficult to control. During her coronation celebration, Elsa could not contain it any longer. Following what her parents told her caused her to have a breakdown and lose control of her magic (00:27:00–00:29:30). • 70. Arguments In Dealing With Dragons While reading the novel, "Dealing with Dragons", by Patricia C. Wrede, one could ask if someone like Cimorene, a princess in the story, should be justified if they go against what expectations are made of them and why that should ever be approved of. However, Cimorene was completely justified in ignoring the social norms of her day because it is very clear that she was never content with being a princess in that kingdom, she was only truly happy in living an "improper" life away from her heredity, and she is far more intelligent than most men, yet she is still treated like a lesser human being while in her kingdom that proves to only be keeping her behind from accomplishing great things. In the novel, "Dealing with Dragons", it is made very clear that Cimorene immensely loathes being a princess in the Kingdom of Linderwall because of the social norms that she is forced to abide by. The author states," 'Then what, exactly is your problem?"...'This!' Cimorene gestured at the castle around her. 'Embroidery lessons, and dancing, and–and being a princess!". This event occurs when Cimorene fairy godmother comes to the castle for a visit. Cimorene blatantly states that everything involved in her life is exactly her problem and because that, one can find that she was justified to run away from a life that she despises. Furthermore, this shows that Cimorene had a motive to run away from what would be an inexorable marriage because of her parents and that she never wanted to hurt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Impact Of Westward Expansion Westward Expansion was the desire of America to control the territories of western parts of America that were either unclaimed or occupied by other nations. It is pertinent to discern that England influenced the United States in diverse ways. In the second half of 18th century, the railroad which that was invented in England brought a significant impact in the United States expansion to the West. Railroads originated from England. England had a dense populace, substantial financial resources and short distances between its cities. Conversely, in America the story was different. It had a sparse population, few financial resources and considerable distances between cities in a vast country. The transcontinental railroad mainly increased Westward Expansion in the US during 1860–90. Westward Expansion is perceived as the central theme of the history of America during the 18th century and as the primary factor in American history shaping. The most significant influence or force that shaped American society and democracy is the availability of vast free land in the West which affected the American culture profoundly. Drives after the revolution, the Western parts of United States were opened up by the winning of independence that resulted in the steady flow of migrants to the Mississippi valley. The far west was a region of high mountains, strange rock formations, brilliant colors, deserts and immense distance. The discovery of paths made it possible for migration to the west of United States as the ox–driven carts could cruise through the mountains and across the desert (Roza, 2011). It should be noted that at this time persons had the desire of moving out of the overcrowded cities to settle in the uninhabited lands in the west of US. Consequently, there was the development of infrastructure to the west. Railroads were constructed that linked the west and east of United States. This was accompanied by mushrooming of cities towards the west as constructions of communication lines were ongoing (Quay, 2002). The construction of infrastructure that was extended from the East to the West paved the way for more migration to the west. The settlers occupied the uninhabited land in the west and commenced developing it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. Examples Of Princess Cimorene In Dealing With Dragons In the novel, Dealing With Dragons, by Patricia C. Wrede, Princess Cimorene was justified in dismissing the social standards of her day because in the novel, she escapes from her previous life as a proper princess, to soon enjoy her new life as princess to the King of Dragons, as well as saving their kind from corruption by the dragon, Woraug, and the wizards. At the beginning of the novel, Cimorene is shown disregarding the activities that her parents allow her to do. The activities chosen for Cimorene are standard things for princesses such as herself, but she wants to do something more fun and exciting, creating an interesting juxtaposition between her and her sisters. "'Embroidery lessons, and dancing, and– and being a princess!' 'My dear Cimorene!' the fairy said, shocked. 'It's your heritage!' 'It's boring.'" Furthermore, Cimorene literally says that she loathes being a princess because of how monotonous everything is. Her fairy godmother is shocked by Cimorene's choices, not sure how to help her with her problem. Cimorene was supposed to be like her sisters, but she came out obedient instead, defying while also going below their standards. Secondly, Cimorene repeatedly managed to get out of her recommended activities to sneak herself into the lessons she wants, like cooking. Cimorene's parents constantly had to manually stop her from doing these activities that she chose. "The same thing happened over the Latin lessons from the court philosopher, the cooking lessons ...
