We will design a system based on WSNs and IoT technologies to manage real-time power at buildings. This system comprises of: a wireless sensor network (sensing node and base station) and a smart home gateway. A sensing node is utilized wireless sensors to measure voltage and current; to calculate power consumption of connected appliances, transmitted wirelessly to a base station via Zigbee node. A base station is designed to receive all data transmitted from the sensing node and display it through GUI available at the personal computer, with the possibility of controlling ON and OFF appliances according to consumer requirements; All of these readings will be stored at database for analysis. In addition, a smart home gateway will connect the system with internet to allow consumers to continuous monitoring and remote control the appliances via a smartphone application. The benefit of this system, that the appliances control mechanism can be done in different ways (manually, automatically, and remotely). Various household appliances were tested to verify the accuracy of the electrical parameters that measured at system and compare them with practical measurement, found the average error ratio between them (0.3%) was in voltage, (1.5%) in current, and (1.8%) in power.

Distance relay is mainly used for fault detection in the power system. But it cannot be used below 11kV. Hence an electronic smart energy meter is developed for the detection of the fault in the distribution system. It consists of a fault detection circuit and an IoT module. The fault detector senses the presence of a fault and give a command signal to the circuit breaker and also passes these fault signal to the operator. This proposed system will be a perfect solution for three major challenges faced in the distribution sector such as automatic fault isolation, information about the fault to the operator and exact location of the fault. The energy meter is capable of displaying the cost of the unit consumed according to their tariff. The variation in tariff can be controlled by an operator using IoT. The initial cost of the proposed system is comparatively higher than the traditional system. As a long term consideration, the cost of installation can be compensated by reducing the wastage of energy by making the consumer aware of the consumption details.

Abstract:Deploying an embedded technology, a wireless sensor node is designed and implemented for establishment of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) for automatic meter reading. The amount of power consumed by the load is extracted by passing the respective current through 1Ohm resistor. The analog voltage observed across it is digitized by employing on chip ADC of AVR Atmega 8L microcontroller. The ADC of 10 bit resolution helps to enhance preciseness in the data. Using principle of energy meter, the power consumed is determined and depicted in the terms of watts and units as well. An embedded firmware is developed by employing CodeVisionAVR, the IDE, which is dedicated for AVR family of microcontrollers. Employing an ubiquitous technology, the Zigbee technology, RF communication is established at 2.4GHz of ISM band. The Zigbee RF module is interfaced to the system and programmed by using X-CTU. Each node (End Devices) is assigned with its own ID and disseminates the data to the co-ordinator node, which is interfaced to the base station. The present wireless sensor network is operating in star technology and following IEEE 802.15.4 standards, it is operating with great reliability. The WSN is suitable for electric power distribution and control boards.

Implementation of vehicle ventilation system using NodeMCU ESP8266 for remote...journalBEEI
In this paper, an implementation of vehicle ventilation system using microcontroller NodeMCU is described, as an internet of things (IoT) platform. A low-cost wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) microchip ESP8266 integrated with NodeMCU provides full-stack transmission control protocol/internet protocol (TCP/IP) to communicate between mobile applications. This chip is capable to monitor and control sensor devices connected to the IoT platform. In this reserach, data was collected from a temperature sensor integrated to the platform, which then monitored using Blynk application. The vehicle ventilation system was activated/deactivated through mobile application and controlled using ON/OFF commands sent to the connected devices. From the results, the vehicle ventilation system built using NodeMCU microcontroller is capable to provide near real-time data monitoring for temperature in the car before and after the ventilation system was applied.

The Iraqi fuel station still now uses old technologies to control its activities from filling tanks to the filling cars. Automate the activity of fuel station is the objective of this work. The aims of fuel station automation are to save the fuel quantities and qualities supplied in fuel station, and to keep the fuel station, the worker and its main parts safe. This work uses the national instrument wireless sensor network (NI WSN). The NI WSN used to automate the protection system and level controlling system which makes the fuel station work under normal ambient temperature, and normal protection conditions. Automation based on a wireless sensor network gives excellent capabilities to automate and monitor fuel station. Through the user interface window the user monitor the status of actuators, protection system controller messages, fuel levels, water level, environment temperature, power source and its quality. The soft controller developed was built within The LABVIEW environment. The results of controller give the desired action through "on" and “off” states of the actuators

Abstract The design is established for the automation of power house system. It shows how to remotely control and monitor power, automatically cut-off power on a single click using micro-controller based switches, wireless hardware module and web user interface during the shortage of power for power management or when bill is not paid. Web user interface shows complete information and power status of consumer stored in database; the data in a database is collected from remote module. To implement this, the wireless technologies used are IR module, zigbee module and server module through internet, PDA using graphical user interface and through smart phones. Static state relay for controlling power on/off outlets and sensors used to sense electric current being used by electric outlets. To measure power a measuring circuit senses the current and sends back a signal to the server module through zigbee the measured data is stored in embedded board and they are designed to become aware of any overload and to send a message to the circuit breaker for safety. PHP, JavaScript, html, CSS are used here to design a web user interface to provide a user-friendly operation of electric outlets. The proposed power outlet monitors the power consumption for the predetermined time and to completely cut-off power supply when the monitored power is below threshold. To efficiently manage the power outlets, the zigbee has several on board switches to wake up the power outlets and control them. The wireless communication module integrates several ac power sockets and a plug-in low power microcontroller performs power on/off switching of sockets. This system is used for power saving purpose and using wireless communication includes low cost, low data rate, self healing system and provides energy usage information to user on internet. The device works online so all the data are received in real time and the whole power system in home area can be managed in the remote area.

Instant Access of Power Usage through IP Enabled Electronic Power MeterIJERD Editor
Nowadays Electrical Energy is a vital resource for human being for their day to day activities. It is
very important to know the usage of electricity to regulate the consumption. The power usage is a very
important criterion in places like domestic purpose, industries, public places, etc. At the end of every month as
soon as the electricity bill arrives we may be surprised because of over usage, we may get more bill amount and
in turn electrical board may demand us pay more ASD (Advanced security deposit). To overcome this problem
we propose the new idea of enabling the digital meters to send the instant power usage statistics through
Internet. It is very important to know about the basic knowledge of what is electricity meter, how to measure the
amount of electrical energy (in watt hour [Wh] units), and power consumption by house hold equipments or
devices. We should also know the tariff of the Electrical board for each unit in various domains. By using all
these data we can provide an effective regulation of power usage and in turn which leads to expected electrical
bill amount. This paper gives a new approach towards instant access of power usage details through IP enabled
electronic meter to minimize or reduce the day to day electrical power consumption.

Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
