Abstract
The steering columns in a steering system are one of the main devices of an automobile. It is a very important part to attain stability and
steady movement of the vehicle. It consists of two yokes, one on each shaft, connected by a cross-shaped intermediate member i.e.
spider. Motion transmission system of vehicles consist several components which sometimes encounter unfortunate failures. Some
common reasons for the failures may be manufacturing and design faults, maintenance faults, raw material faults, material processing
faults as well as the user originated faults. In this paper finite element analysis of the component is carried out to find the stress and
displacement of the final product. For modeling of the component, CATIA V5 R17 software is used. Preprocessing work like meshing
and analysis work is carried out in HYPERWORKS software. Using FEA analysis, we can identify the nature and characteristics of
stresses acting on the yoke and also evaluate the influence of the loads/ mass/ geometry/ boundary conditions over the yoke.

Fea analysis and optimization of an one way clutch used in automatic transmis...eSAT Journals
Abstract An intent of this project is to reduce the weight of one way clutch which is being used in automotive transmission enabled sports cars. By reducing the weight we can achieve better efficiency in terms of strength and also to increase the transmission power from torque converter wherein which engaging and disengaging happens. One way roller clutch is one, when the unit rotates in one direction the rollers slip or free-wheel, but when a torque is applied in the opposite direction, the rollers lock between outer cage (cam) and inner cage, producing a wedging action and binding because of friction. The rollers are spring-loaded. Design parameters like maximum torsional deflection, minimum hoop`s stress are considered for to get increased efficiency. In order to achieve this FEA analysis and optimization technique is carried here. Optimization is the mathematical discipline which is concerned with finding the maxima and minima of functions, possibly subject to constraints. Here optimization is carried out by using the global parameters optimization technique. Keywords: FEA analysis, Global parameters, Minimum hoop`s stress, Weight
Application of finite element analysis in effective design of flight control ...eSAT Journals
Abstract The objective of this project work is to effectively design and analyze the helicopter flight control circuits. The design process involves FE method to assess the directional control circuit. Displacement, stress, strain energy values are obtained for the circuit for different load cases and optimum design is obtained for safe helicopter flight controls for critical maneuvers. In a helicopter the rotor blade is operated using mechanical flight control system consisting of elements like push-pull rod, links, bell crank levers, structural supporting brackets etc. There is a certain amount of reduction in stiffness and strength of elements of the circuit due to stretch in these elements resulting in false control surface deflections. This project work focuses on the application of FEM in design, analysis and optimization of directional flight control circuit using ALTAIR HYPERMESH and MSC NASTRAN software’s. FEM techniques have been extensively used in this study to simulate the control circuit mechanism. Keywords: directional control circuit, finite element analysis, displacement, strain energy

In many cases wherever material handling equipment gear drives are used because of their efficient transmission of power. But disadvantage o f this system are whenever power shut down occurs or may be mechanical failure occurs are inpu t side of the system. If this situation occurs, guarantee of rotation of the shaft cannot be predic ted. It can move in both the direction, either it can continue moving in same direction because of in ertia or it may move in opposite direction because of gravity of the load. Moving in the rever se direction is also called as back driving [1]. To prevent back driving self locking gears can be p rovided, which doesnt move in opposite direction. The project implemented aims at self locking proper ty by usage of worm pair which are connected to each other in mesh pattern. Application of Reliability Analysis for Predicting Failures in Cement Industrytheijes
This research entails the use of reliability analysis for predicting failures of machines used in the cement industries and was done by evaluating machine down times data. This research work was necessitated by the need to accurately predict failures of the machines used in the cement industries and come up with an effective planning, for preventive maintenance schedule and reducing down times through developed mathematical model for the machines. The failure frequency variation with time was determined and a regression analysis using least squares methods. Correlation was done to ascertain the suitability of linear regression of the data and also to determine that, the independent variable is a good predictor of the dependent variable. The reliability model of the machines was achieved by applying the down times and the regression analysis result of the machines studied for a period of six years to the Weibull model. Two critical components of the machines were identified; contributing a total of 55 % of the down time. It was concluded that the critical components indicate the trend of failure of the machines. Therefore, reducing the failure rate of these components will increase the useful life of the machines and the obtained failure ratemodel, could be used as an important tool for predicting future failures and hence, effectively planning against such failures.

A commitment to condition monitoring involves the operators of plant in the conduct of a range of activities. These activities may be complicated in nature and indeed may often be performed automatically under computer control. They can, however, always be down into a relatively small number of easily identifiable functional tasks. This makes it much easier to identify the common elements of machine condition monitoring schemes .The Motor Current Signature Analysis (MCSA) is considered the most popular fault detection method now a day because it can easily detect the common machine fault such as turn to turn short circuit . The present paper discusses the fundamentals of Motor Current Signature Analysis (MCSA) plus condition monitoring of the induction motor using MCSA. A proposed interface circuit design and application will be further explain in this paper, the implemented monitoring unit circuit also illustrated, see appendix A. Artificial neural networks are extensively used for speed, torque estimation, and solid state drive control in both DC and AC machines. Two scenarios presented in this paper, first ten turns assume to be shorted, and in the second thirty turns shorted to show the difference in the amplitude of frequencies at each case. Finally artificial intelligent techniques are increasingly used for condition monitoring and fault detection of machines. This paper present. An improvement in three-phase squirrel-cage induction motor stator inter-turn fault detection and diagnosis based on a neural network approach is presented.
