This document discusses an experimental study on the flexural behavior of hybrid steel-basalt fiber reinforced concrete. Beams were cast with various fiber volume fractions and material combinations to determine their flexural strength, toughness, and load-deflection behavior. The key findings were:
1) Hybrid fiber beams exhibited higher ultimate loads than steel or basalt fiber beams alone, with a maximum 25% increase over plain concrete beams.
2) Hybrid beams with 70% steel and 30% basalt fibers at 2% total content showed the highest strength and deflection capacity.
3) Toughness was also highest for a hybrid beam with 60% steel and 40% basalt at 2% content, indicating optimal

Abstract Experimental investigation is carried out to study the behavior of Metakaolin reinforced concrete in comparison to fly ash
reinforced concrete with and without steel fibers on compressive strength and under shear strength. The weakness in tension of
conventional concrete is overcome by incorporating steel fibers into the matrix while the Metakaolin and Fly ash can increase
many properties of concrete and also reduces the cementing consumption. 12 beams of length 1500mm, breadth 150mm and depth
200mm having 4-12mm diameter bars as tension reinforcement and 2L, 8mm diameter bars spaced at 130mm c/c as stirrups were
casted and cured for 28 days and tested under two point loading applied at 1/3 span points.

The idea of using bamboo as possible reinforcement has gained popularity. Bamboo, as a fast growing renewable material with a simple production process, is expected to be a sustainable alternative for more traditional structural materials, such as concrete, steel and timber. The diminishing wood resource and reduction in natural forests, particularly in the tropics, have focused world attention on the need to identify a substitute building material that should be renewable, environment friendly and widely available. The tensile strength of bamboo fiber can be comparable to that of steel, and the average fracture toughness of bamboo can be higher than that of aluminum alloy. Bamboo grows at rapid rates, it almost grows to its full size in a few months and finishes developing within five years. Bamboo is the world’s fastest growing woody plant. It grows approximately 7.5 to 40cm a day, with world record being 1.2m in 24 hours in Japan. Bamboo grows three times faster than most other species. Commercially important species of bamboo usually mature in four or five years in time.

Scope of using alternate materials as partial replacement of Coarse Aggregate is being searched for Concrete without sacrificing strength or increasing strength from economical and other aspects like using industrial waste for its efficient use. Investigations were done on M 25grade concrete by replacing coarse aggregate partially by steel fiber to get maximum strength. This Study presents the satisfactory results on various strength tests of concrete containing steel fiber as a partial replacement of coarse aggregate and would help to resolve solid waste disposal problem. However, further research work is still necessary in order to have a more in depth understanding. This paper reports the experimental results of symmetrical push-out tests
performed on nails and screws connectors for natural laminated timber (Kempas
timber) concrete composite floor systems. The characteristic shear strength and slip
modules were evaluated for two types of connectors: Type (A) Nail connector with
73.37 mm length x 4.35 mm diameter; Type (B) Screw connector with 68.7 mm length
x 5.47 mm diameter. The shear force, relative slip and slip modulus results were
analyzed and design of TCC deck connectors were performed using the Gamma
Method. The failure mechanisms of these two connectors type are discussed.
Analytical design formulas for shear-strength evaluation of (nail and screw)
connections derived in accordance Eurocodes are proposed based on four possible
failure mechanisms. Good approximation was found if a slight modification of the
Eurocodes formulas is introduced

Study of the Effect of Optimized Hybrid Fiber on the Strength Characteristics...ijtsrd
To determine the ideal dosage amount of hybrid fibre in concrete mixtures, the strength properties including cube compressive strength, cylinder compressive strength, split tensile strength, and flexural strength were examined. By casting a beam for every mix proportion, the structural behaviour and structural performance of hybrid fibre reinforced concrete are determined. Compared to control reinforced concrete, the hybrid fibre addition with 0.75 steel fibre and 0.25 PVA fibre shown good strength characteristics and structural behaviour, according to the experimental examination. For hybrid fibre reinforced concrete, the relationship between several parameters in strength characteristics, structural behaviour, and structural performance is derived by regression analysis. CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!
Work done in cooperation with James Malloy and David Moelling from Tetra Engineering.
