IPv6 was developed to correct the limitation inherent in IPv4. What are the areas that IPv5 improved on? Solution Firstly there is no version 5 for Internet protocol. IPV6 is definitely developed to overcome the limitations of IPV4. Most important limitation is address depletion problem. IPv4 provided 32 bit addressing which means that there will be 232 different and unique addresses that can be granted to the users of the internet, which is been classified into classes A,B,C,D and E out of which A,B,C are granted based on the requirement from large scale to small scale. The classful addressing was the main cause of the address depletion. To overcome that classless addressing was intoduced,NAT was introduced which could not rectify the problem completely. Therefore IPV6 was developed to satify the requirements of growing internet population. IPV6 has 128 bit addressing which can assign 2128 unique addresses which is far bigger than IPV4. Apart from this IPV6 has simple header when compared to IPV4, with IPV6 the routing is more effective and it also provides authentication which is part of security, which is another main drawback in IPV4(it is unreliable)..
