This document analyzes over 10,000 issued US patents related to key wireless connectivity standards for the Internet of Things (IoT), including LTE, Wireless LAN, Zigbee, Bluetooth, NFC, and UHF RFID. It identifies more than 3,000 patents held by over 160 organizations as being essential to these IoT wireless standards. Samsung Electronics holds the most essential patents, followed by LG Electronics, Qualcomm, Nokia, Google, Ericsson, Intel, Apple, InterDigital, Sony, Broadcom, BlackBerry, Texas Instruments, Marvell, Panasonic, ETRI, NEC and Cisco.
