1. Theme: I am focusing on the theme of colour in my music
video. The city of Palma De Mallorca has inspired me to
create this piece, glorifying the areas vibrancy and
life given by colour itself.
Style: Gorilla film technique of filming what I can,
when I can.
The video’s concept is my perspective of
the environment and how I viewed the
surroundings, conveyed through editing
the colour gradient and playing around
with contrast, exposure, saturation,
warmth, structure, highlights and
shadows.
This ability to be able to edit the
footage of the environment will be key to
conveying my perspective of the city at
the time.
The song ‘Hero’ by Family Of The Year inspired me to create this
video as I discovered the song through the film ‘Boy Hood’ which
really struck me emotionally and really engaged me, allowing me to
connect with the characters. The song ‘Hero’ describes the
pressures of adult responsibilities and not wanting to grow up and
conform to the imprisoning life that we are so unfortunately
forced into. It linked with the film perfectly as ‘Boyhood’ is a
ten-year film project, where the actors grew up during the filming
process, so they aged in real life at the same rate as the
characters.
My visit to Mallorca will be
a poignant time in my life
as I am about to take the
next step in my life, which is going to university; strangely
enough the last stage of the boys childhood in ‘Boyhood’ is the
same.
The idea of life being monotonous and boring, having childhood
freedom being taken away once you reach a certain point takes
the magic out of life.
The city of Palma De Mallorca is a place of amazing colour and
gives anyone of any age a sense of wonder of which in my opinion
is how I picture Family Of The Years lyrics in the sense of
holding onto freedom and truly living. Being inspired by colour
and the wonder of colour has connotations of childhood as
children are always intrigued by it; any cartoon would be a
sufficient piece of evidence.
