help to carry out the plot.
It is the characters who keep a story interesting
by doing things and saying things.

They can be:
Humans
Animals
Aliens
Monsters
Creatures
Any type of being
Also any inanimate object that you give life to.(E.g. ruler, pencils,
These entities act out what happens in your story.
5. Characters are an important part of the story.
A good plot can be spoiled by characters that are dull and
unrealistic.
Characters are most interesting when they are three
dimensional and have many sides of their personalities shown.
These characters have strengths and weaknesses. (not exactly
good or bad (human)) They seem alive and real.
Movies specialize in these types of characters. You should try to
create at least one well-rounded character in your stories, no
matter how short the story.

: The main character that the story
follows. Usually seen as the “good guy”.
This is usually the “bad guy” in the
story. The one who opposes the Protagonist.

• Use apposition to help tell you more about them.
• Describe at least three things about them.
(Usually top to bottom or bottom to top or 2 thing and 1 other
that stands out most to you).
• Describe their actions, the way the move, talk ( VIVID VERBS)
• Describe their traits ( CHARACTER- GOOD OR BAD)
• Describe their thoughts and feelings.

• Describe and name your characters
• Their appearances/looks (E.g. middle-aged, wrinkles, obese)
• Traits or Qualities ( How they are: kind, wicked, mischievous)
• Their feelings ( excited, happy, depressed, bored) Show vs Tell
• You make them speak/utter sounds
