In Eveline, the main character, Eveline, lives a terrible life with a stern father, a
miserable occupation, and a dreary home. When she is offered the chance to leave
her abysmal life and start a new one with her lover Frank, she rejects this
proposition and remains in Ireland. Immediately this presents the reader with a
paradox. Why did Eveline stay? Wasn t her life terrible? It is not until the reader
digs a little deeper into Eveline does the paradox solve itself. Joyce uses various
literary techniques to help the reader understand why Eveline did not leave with
Frank.
In order to solve Eveline s paradox, Joyce employs sentence structure to elaborate

control and Star Wars.I chose certain episodes from Season 1 based on their titles
and descriptions; ones I thought may deal with sexism more in depth than other
episodes. Season 1, Episode 4 Battle of the Sexists, starts off with the boys reading
a PlayBoy magazine and making judgements of the women based on their bodies.
In particular, they focus on the breasts, and claim that they can tell how annoying
a woman is based on how large they are. Although this is a very short scene, it
clearly depicts the objectification of women, and gives the impression that women
are to be admired for their bodies, not their personalities. In this episode, we learn
that the plant that Eric s father, Red, works at has cut his hours. This means he is no
longer the primary breadwinner of the family, and as to not feel inadequate to his
wife, Kitty, he starts fixing things around the house. The bulk of this episode centres

My Experience at Pathfinder Ranch Before I went to Pathfinder Ranch, my sister
told me all about it and how much fun it was. After my sister talked about it I could
not wait to go and when i finally got to go it was over so fast. My experience at
Pathfinder Ranch was amazing. I made so many good memories there . There
were so many activity there, such as archery, canoeing seeing/houlding wildlife ,

The early 1900 s novella, Heart of Darkness, written by Joseph Conrad follows the
journey of a man named Charlie Marlow. Apocalypse Now, a 1970 s movie
directed by Francis Ford Coppola follows the mission of a man named Captain
Benjamin L. Willard. Apocalypse Now filmed nearly 80 years after the initial
publication of the novella was created as a film adaptation of the book. The movie
changes many elements from the novella, but keeps the basic outline and a few
characters the same. Heart of Darknessand Apocalypse Nowhave many similar
aspects while still being their own separate pieces, by comparing the journey
within both works, analyzing the characters, and understanding their different
interpretations of darkness the relationship between these two works can truly be
seen. In Heart of Darkness Marlow is sitting on a boat, the Nellie, and tells the
story of his journey through Africa s Congo to his fellow seamen. Marlow starts
his story with his childhood, during which he had a great passion for maps and the
blank spaces on earth. There was one... the biggest, the most blank, so to speak that
I had a hankering after... by this time it was not a blank space any more. (Conrad

Lower Class In The Great Gatsby
The 1920s, also known as the Roaring Twenties, was an age of dramatic changes in
societal expectations. It was a time of economic progress for Americans, which meant
many people from the lower class had the opportunity to earn enough money and
improve their position in society. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
, Jay Gatsby, the protagonist in the novel, came from the lower class and thought
that his new wealth could win over Daisy Buchanan, who originally came from the
higher class. Fitzgerald symbolizes Daisy as Gatsby s American Dream, or his
success and prosperity. This eventually created conflict between the higher and lower
class. The Great Gatsbyby F. Scott Fitzgerald demonstrates the difficulty of upward
social mobility due to the rigid class structure, which ultimately resulted in the
realization that the American Dream was unattainable to those of the lower class.
In the novel, Jay Gatsby s determination to rise in class and obtain his goal,
illustrates a shift in the traditional ideas prior to the 1920 s. As Gatsby gives the
ambitious young reporter his life story he explains that His parents were shiftless
and unsuccessful farm people... he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a
seventeen year old boy would be likely to invent, and to this conception he was
