            1. Students to be included in the Alternatives program are determined in Collaborative
               Team Meetings and grouped according to specific area of need, including:
                    • Anger management
                    • Appropriate responses
                    • Using words to settle disagreements
                    • Friendship skills
            2. Two staff members coordinate learning in the Alternatives room. Once groups are
Description    determined, they plan and provide instruction to the small groups (3-6 students)
            3. Students go to the Alternatives room during the grade 4-6 intervention block Thursday
               and Friday (to be determined in Collaborative Team Meetings)
            4. Lists of students involved in the Alternatives program are posted in the staff workroom
            5. Staff members are encouraged to note these students and look for positive behaviors
               being displayed during recess times. Recognize and reinforce the positive behaviors
               being exhibited by the students.
            6. Alternatives staff will communicate with classroom teachers the focus of the groups and
               specific strategies that are to be practiced by students.




Additional • Communication with classroom teachers is critical. Alternatives staff will communicate
