This Symposium waas the first large-scale contribution under the UN Decade of Action for Nutrition 2016-2025. • 2016 => 2nd FNS National Plan
Participatory and intersectoral/integrated policy approach (no silver bullet)

4. Principles of the FNS System
• Centrality of human rights.
• Food sovereignty – Food is the expression of values, cultures,
social relations and people self-determination.
• Intersetoriality – 20 different ministries are part of the System
requesting coordination among government.
• Social Participation – including NGOs, social movements,
academics and private sector.
• Decentralization – states and municipalities are part of the
System.
• International solidarity – Brazilian actions must not violate
other people’s RtoF.

5. 1st FNS National Plan – 2011-2015
Commitment of different governmental sectors to promote and
implement actions like:
• Universal access to adequate and healthy food
• Local Food Supply strategies
• Food and Nutrition education, research and training
• Guarantee FNS in traditional and indigenous communities
• FN actions in Primary Health Care
• Universal access to water for consumption and production
• Monitoring system
