Content analysis :“Taj Mahal” is perhaps the most beautiful monument ever made. Rabindranath Tagore in his poem ‘Shah
Jahan’ pays a most fitting tribute to the greatness of the emperor as well as the monument he made.
Instructional objectives: The pupil,
 Grasps the theme of the poem
 Reads the poem effectively giving importance to rhyme, rhythm, intonation and presentation
 Understands the mood of the poem.
 Reads the poem and appreciates the art in it.
 Develops aesthetic senses
Previous knowledge : The pupil,
 Knows the monument Taj Mahal
 Has heard about Shah Jahan
 Has read similar poems.
Teaching aids :
Black board, Charts, Handouts.
Informal interaction procedure
Informal interaction
Teacher engages in an informal talk with the students to create a rapport among them.
Respond actively
Introduction
After creating a rapport with the students the teacher asks them the following questions.
Have you ever seen Taj Mahal?
Do you know in which city, it is situated?
What is the name of the emperor who built Taj Mahal?
The question and answer are linked to the poem. The teacher writes the title of the poem
and name of the poet on the blackboard. ‘TAJ MAHAL” - Rabindranath Tagore
Presentation of the poem
Model reading by the teacher
The teacher reads the poem by giving emphases on stress, rhyme, rhythm,intonation and
pronunciation.
Silent reading by the students
The students are asked to read the poem silently. Students are asked to clarify their doubts.
Presentation of the new words
The students are asked to find the meaning of difficult words from the glossary.
Comprehension
The teacher asks the students certain questions to check the level of understanding.
 In this poem, the poet tells about ‘Shah Jahan’s heart’s pain’.
What do you think about it?
 To memorize which person did shah Jahan build Taj Mahal?
 “All float away down the stream of time”. What image do
you get from this line

The teacher asks certain question to make the students appreciate the poem
Pick out the instances of simile from the peom?
Presentation by the students
The student s are asked to present the answers for the questions made by the teacher
Loud leading
The teacher asks the students to read the poem loudly. Corrections are made by the teacher.
Review
The teacher shows a chart which contains the questions and answers from the poem in order to make the
students recall the main idea of the poem.
 What are things in poets view that would float away down the ‘stream of life’?
 Pick out the lines which mean emeralds, rubies and pearls are transient.
Language activity
Arrange these disordered letters and form meaningful words.

  • 1. INNOVATIVE LESSON PLAN Name of the teacher : Midhula Asok S. Std : VIII. Name of the school : G.H.S.S.Pallimon. str : 43 Subject : English. Date : 23/07/2015 Unit : Hues and Views. Duration : 40 min. Subunit : Taj Mahal. Theme : Art. Content analysis :“Taj Mahal” is perhaps the most beautiful monument ever made. Rabindranath Tagore in his poem ‘Shah Jahan’ pays a most fitting tribute to the greatness of the emperor as well as the monument he made.
  • 2. Instructional objectives: The pupil,  Grasps the theme of the poem  Reads the poem effectively giving importance to rhyme, rhythm, intonation and presentation  Understands the mood of the poem.  Reads the poem and appreciates the art in it.  Develops aesthetic senses Previous knowledge : The pupil,  Knows the monument Taj Mahal  Has heard about Shah Jahan  Has read similar poems. Teaching aids : Black board, Charts, Handouts.
  • 3. Informal interaction procedure Informal interaction Teacher engages in an informal talk with the students to create a rapport among them. Respond actively Introduction After creating a rapport with the students the teacher asks them the following questions. Have you ever seen Taj Mahal? Do you know in which city, it is situated? What is the name of the emperor who built Taj Mahal? The question and answer are linked to the poem. The teacher writes the title of the poem and name of the poet on the blackboard. ‘TAJ MAHAL” - Rabindranath Tagore Presentation of the poem Model reading by the teacher The teacher reads the poem by giving emphases on stress, rhyme, rhythm,intonation and pronunciation. Silent reading by the students The students are asked to read the poem silently. Students are asked to clarify their doubts. Presentation of the new words The students are asked to find the meaning of difficult words from the glossary. Comprehension The teacher asks the students certain questions to check the level of understanding.  In this poem, the poet tells about ‘Shah Jahan’s heart’s pain’. What do you think about it?  To memorize which person did shah Jahan build Taj Mahal?  “All float away down the stream of time”.   • 4. Appreciation The teacher asks certain question to make the students appreciate the poem Pick out the instances of simile from the peom? Presentation by the students The student s are asked to present the answers for the questions made by the teacher Loud leading The teacher asks the students to read the poem loudly. Corrections are made by the teacher. Review The teacher shows a chart which contains the questions and answers from the poem in order to make the students recall the main idea of the poem.  What are things in poets view that would float away down the ‘stream of life’?  Pick out the lines which mean emeralds, rubies and pearls are transient.
