the life of a village blacksmith and
his hardship.
 To make the students aware about the importance of
hardwork .
 To make them familiar about the life of a blacksmith
and his toil in the smithy.
The teacher asks the students some questions to test
their previous knowledge and to bring them to the
new poem.

2.Have you seen the workplace of a blacksmith?
Today we are going to learn a new poem by
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
 Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was an American poet
and educator whose works include "Paul Revere's
Ride", The Song of Hiawatha, and Evangeline.
 Born: February 27, 1807
 Died: March 24, 1882
 Books: The Song of Hiawatha,
Evangeline, A Tale of Arcadie etc.
The teacher recites the poem with
proper, pronunciation,
intonation, stress and pause
smithy : a blacksmith’s
workshop
sexton : a person who looks after a
church and churchyard, typically
acting as bell-ringer and
gravedigger.
To make the content clear the teacher asks certain
questions :
1.Where is the smithy situated?
2.Give a small description of the blacksmith’s
appearance?
3.Whatdoes the line ‘a tear out of his eyes’
suggest.
