Curricular Statement
The learner:
i. reads and enjoys poem
ii. fondly recalls father’s sacrifice
iii. group the theme of the poem
iv. right attitude towards work.
Content Analysis
Seamus Heaney’s poem “Follower” is the toils about the peasant father is admiringly
addressed to by a son who is not so experienced a former as his father. In turn, the relationship
between the peasant father and his son becomes a symbolic representation of the bond between
two generations and the cultural continuity that it engenders.
Pre-requisites
The learner :
i. has experienced the love and care of father.
ii. knows the relationship between father and son.
iii. an idea about agricultural.
The teacher interacts informally with the learner and forms a good rapport with the learner.
The teacher shows the picture of a father who works in a field and a boy follows him. Today, we
were, going to learn a new lesson “Follower” on B.B.
The teacher recites the poem two times aloud with correct rhyme, stress, musicality etc.
Now the Teacher shows the image of the poet, Seamus Heaney
The teacher asks the learner to read individually sharing with pair/peer.
Now the teacher shows some pictures related to the poem.

Now the teacher asks the learner to sit in groups and discuss their understanding of findings.
Teacher megaphones their doubts to the entire class And helps them to understand the doubts
clearly
Teacher now helps the learners to refer the glossary and find out the meaning of difficult
words and if the learners need more clarification the teacher intervenes and gives them situations
or teaching aids to get the right meaning of the word.
Farrow- a long narrow channel or cut especially made by a plough.
Globed- swelled or rounded like a globe
Shaft – either of the two plots at the front of a carriage or earth between which a horse is fastened
in order to pull
Sock – Sharp metal tip of a plough
Sod – A layer of earth with grass growing on it.
Teacher recites the poem again with correct stress and voice modulation.
Teacher asks scaffolding questions to make the learners predict, establish or build up
thoughts.

2. Who follows whom in the beginning?
3. Who follows whom when the poem ends?
4. Who are referred to as the sweating team?
Teacher makes the learner identify the words that denote action from the poem.
The teacher makes the learner read aloud the poem with correct pronunciation,
stress, rhythm and voice modulation.
Now the teacher asks the learners to sit in groups and discuss whether the poet’s
admiration for his Father turns into irritation by the end of the poem. Teacher makes each
group to share their views.
Now the teacher concludes the stanzas. That is, the love and care of a father is
unmatched.
Now the teacher gives Follow Up activity, write a paragraph about the theme of the
poem.
