Analysis Of The Dragon In My Garage By Carl Sagan
The building was a marvel of modern engineering. A carbon neutral, solar and
geothermal powered monument to the future. The outside of the building a sleek
combination of recycled redwood and interlocking solar panels. The inside s high
vaulted ceilings and sleek white pillars formed a cavernous inner space. Three
classrooms divided the building into working spaces. The bright L.E.D lighting and
modern fixtures completed the buildings futuristic design. This building was the
newest in a long line of additions to my middle school s campus. Walking through
the front door and taking a hard right would put you in the classroom of our seventh

Ironically just two years later I owned a pair of my own pet rats in highschool, I
know that they are not the monsters that I was made to believe but smart, clean and
loving animals when raised properly. Unfortunately this kind of fallacy is not
uncommon, we all hold beliefs that are wrong but have not been challenged or
confronted before. Carl Sagan, a prominent astrophysicist and professor, touches on
these topics in his essay The dragon in my garage , In this essay he confronts the
idea that it s possible to believe something that to others is obviously false by
constructing an imaginary dragon as an illustration. Though it is well known that
dragons are not real, he uses this as a thought experiment to describe the misplaced
beliefs that people can hold. In his example Sagan s dragon cannot be measured for
all intents and purposes besides rare physical manifestations of it s power, yet people
choose to believe it s existence based solely off these small and refutable pieces of
evidence. Despite Sagan s effort to disprove this dragon does all he can to disprove
this dragon, by coming up with a myriad of ways to test its existence yet it is
unsuccessful as the dragon is always one step ahead of
Snow on Arizona SnowBowl Essay
Snow on Arizona SnowBowl
Why would anyone propose to use millions of gallons of water a day to desecrate
sacred Indian land, in a State that is going through a drought? Well, the Arizona
SnowBowl has proposed to do just that; make artificial snow on their ski resort. The
proposal is for their own economical benefit with no respect for the holy San
Francisco Peaks, where the Ski resort is located.
The San Francisco Peaks are located in Northern Arizona, seven miles outside of
Flagstaff. The weather on these peaks is not very consistent. Some winters there s
excess of snow for skiing, then there are years like the 2001 2002 ski season where
there were only four inches of snow the whole winter. This ... Show more content on

The San Francisco Peaks are a sacred place to thirteen tribes in Northern Arizona. The
tribes go up to the mountain for religious beliefs and prayers. Specifically, the tribes
pray to the rain gods. If snow machines are put on the mountain, that would defeat
the purpose in praying for rain. The holiness of the peaks would be lost for the
Native Americans, knowing that their prayers are disrespected by the Arizona
SnowBowl.
The habitat and ecosystem of the San Francisco Peaks is rare. The Mountains are
located in the middle of the desert. The vegetation on the mountain is uncommon.
The addition of snow machines and remodeling of ski runs would greatly change
the terrain of the mountain. In order to put new ski runs and snow machines on the
mountain many impacting preliminary events must happen first. One major event
would be the removal of trees for the new ski runs and piping for the snow
machines. The trees that will be cut are on the edge of a wilderness area, which is
out of bounds for skiing. This means people will be more inclined to ski in out of
bounds areas. Also, a gigantic water pipe will be run from the Rio De Flag water
treatment plant to the upper parts of the mountain. This will involve digging trenches,
cutting trees, and using heavy machinery. All of these actions will forever impact the
mountain.
The Arizona SnowBowl could not have picked a worse time to remodel their ski

COUNTER REVOLUTION OF 1848 A blend of political and social philosophy,
monetary crises, and romanticism joint to build disorder in each country in
Europe excluding Great Britain, which have originated the internal reforms, and
Russia, which was mostly halt by its individual gargantuanism. It was in various
respects a hyped edition of the 1960 s in the United States, when idealists took it to
the streets. The effect was a sequence of revolutions for national independence,
liberal democratic constitutions, and social reform (Bidelux Jefferies 1998).
These will be the well known revolutions of 1848, one of the supplementary
important proceedings in contemporary European history. The Irish potato scarcity
has an effect on the mainland. Meager crop caused food cost to skyrocket and also
caused extensive joblessness in urban. Aggression broke out in Poland in an
exertion of revolution which was rapidly place downward. Naples, Italy and
Austria also saw armed revolution. Even sedate Switzerland saw a civil battle
among radicals and conservatives. FRANCE King Louis Philippe had raised the
throne among pledge of improvement and tactics to institute a bourgeoisie monarchy.
On the other hand, he didn t do well on his pledge. His government was subjugated
by disgrace that only the affluent people can be able to vote for deputies to the

An Efficient Way Transmit Codes
Throughout time the need for an efficient way transmit codes were essential to
success, after World War I and into the start of World War II American forces was
running out of ideas for codes. The USA had always used the white s soldiers for
the code talkers because there were easy to train, and a abundance of them to
choose making them the practice choose for code talkers. Until Philip Johnston, he
was an initiator that worked for a Marine Corps program. As a kid and into his
teens he grew up on a Navajo reservation and his dad was a missionary. Whit all the
time that Johnston spent of the reservation he became familiar with the people and
their language. With the use of the Navajos it grained equality for Native
Americans which was not found in the late 1800 s, and soon it gained them a
greater respect by the whites into today s age. In the late 1800 s Indians were seen
through the eyes of the settlers as pests, people who occupy the land that rightfully
belonged to the whites. They were thought of as savages. However this was not
true, the Navajo Indians and many other tribes were only willing to fight for their
land, families and the property that they have inhabited for hundreds of years
(Robert A. Roessel, 1). In this time of lack of control, Navajos were overpowered
by Americans who were in position of authority and control. This is because
Americans lacked the understanding of the Navajo way, leading to be fatal for many
as they were being transferred, resigned,
Disadvantages Of Distilled Drinks
Spirits or distilled beverages are types of alcoholic drinks which are produced by
distillation of a mixture produced from alcoholic fermentation. Spirits are often called
hard liquor or simply liquor . The distillation process of spirits excludes the diluting
water component results in increasing the alcohol content in the drinks. Unlike, beer
and wine, distilled spirits contain no added sugar and their ABV content is ~20%.
Distilled spirits are the types of alcoholic beverages where the concentration of ethyl
alcohol has been increased over and above that of the original fermented mixture.
This is because yeast (the main component in fermentation) will not be able to
survive higher alcohol levels and in order to create stronger spirits,... Show more

It is a spirit produced by distilling wine, and is generally taken as an after dinner
drink, or to warm the body during cold temperatures. Some of its varieties are
allowed to age in wooden casks, or some are colored with caramel coloring to
replicate the effect of aging, while others are produced as an outcome of these two
processes. ABV ranges between 35% and 60%.
Cognac is a variety of brandy which is made from the most expensive fruit plucked
from Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne and Borderies, in France. The spirit is
allowed to age in oak barrels. ABV ranges between 40% and 45%.
Liqueurs are distilled alcoholic drinks which derives their flavor from fruits, cream,
herbs, spices, flowers or nuts, and bottled with added sugar or other sweetener
which may include high fructose corn syrup. Unlike brandy, liqueurs are not
allowed to age for longer periods, but are allowed to rest for the ingredients to blend

Whiskey is merely beer which has been distilled. It is a distilled alcoholic beverage
which is obtained from the fermented mash of grain, distilled at lower than 190

William Joyce s Eveline
A Guided Epiphany
In Eveline, the main character, Eveline, lives a terrible life with a stern father, a
miserable occupation, and a dreary home. When she is offered the chance to leave
her abysmal life and start a new one with her lover Frank, she rejects this
proposition and remains in Ireland. Immediately this presents the reader with a
paradox. Why did Eveline stay? Wasn t her life terrible? It is not until the reader
digs a little deeper into Eveline does the paradox solve itself. Joyce uses various
literary techniques to help the reader understand why Eveline did not leave with
Frank.
In order to solve Eveline s paradox, Joyce employs sentence structure to elaborate
how important the father and Frank are to Eveline. The father is given much
longer sentences than any of the other characters, such as He said she used to
squander the money, that she had no head, that he wasn t going to give her his
hard earned money to throw about the streets, and much more, for he was usually
fairly bad on Saturday night. (Joyce 65 68), and When they were growing up he
had never gone for her like he used to go for Harry and Ernest, because she was a
girl; but latterly he had begun to threaten her and say 3 what he would do to her
only for her dead mother s sake. (55 58) contain forty words and forty eight words

sentences. The third sentence in Frank s introduction, She was to go away with

The Politics and Economics of FDA Drug Approval Essay
The Politics and Economics of FDA Drug Approval
The United Sates Food and Drug Administration has been protecting American
consumers for around 70 years. The FDA assures the safety drugs, medical devices,
chemicals, cosmetics, foods and additives by evaluating products for approval.
Controversy has recently been surrounding the FDA s drug approval process, due to
a general trend to get pharmaceuticals on the market more quickly. The FDA has
been under pressure from congress and the public to speed approval, but
pharmaceutical companies, who benefit more than anyone form accelerated drug
approval, have also been applying pressure to the FDA through congress. The
speeding of the approval process helps patients with incurable illnesses ... Show more

The Radiation Control for Health and Safety Act guarantees consumers protection
from excess radiation in certain devices. Lastly, The Public Health Service Act
expanded the FDA s authority to cover serums and vaccines and also justified the
inspections of restaurants (Food and Drug Administration [Britannica]). The FDA is
adjusting to a switch in leader ship since Jane Heney, previously the FDA s deputy
commissioner of operations, was nominated in June 1998. Heney, the first woman
to head the FDA, has a packed resume that includes a vice presidency of the
University of New Mexico and a specialization in cancer research. Her strategy for
the future of the FDA includes the enforcement of new federal laws to modernize
the FDA and addressing concerns about drug safety and approval speed, as well as
controlling food contamination (Davis 5D). The FDA requires pharmaceutical
companies to conduct years of research on their drugs before they begin the actual
process approval. Drug companies submit test results to the FDA to be reviewed
by their scientists; the FDA actually does no preliminary research on the drugs. In
order to be approved, the companies must prove to the FDA that each drug is safe
and effective and that the benefits of the drug must outweigh its side effects. The
FDA has 800 to 900 employees involved in reviewing drugs before they get to the
market. After a drug is approved, the FDA researches by collecting and analyzing
thousands of reports each
Bacterial Transformation Is The Process Of Transferring...
Introduction:
Bacterial transformation is the process of transferring bacteria. This begins with
genetic transformation where genes transfer from an organism to another with the
help of plasmid. Plasmid contains one or more piece of DNA within bacteria. This
technique is used commonly in technology specifically designed for biology usage to
enhance the culture around with positive results. It is also used to solve common
world problems, such as human insulin and drought resistant crops. In this
experiment, the attention was focused on the bacteria, Escherichia coli, also known as
E. coli, that is commonly found in intestinal stools. This experiment was conducted in
order to test the hypothesis that the GFP will glow underneath the UV light if
+pGLO +Ara (Arabinose sugar) were present. It is an overall interesting investigation
because bacterial transformation has benefits in agriculture, bioremediation, and even
in medicine today that can help with gene therapy.
Materials Methods:
The materials required for this experiment were 2 micro test tubes, a foam rack,
sterile pipette(s), 250mL transformation solution(гЂ–CaClгЂ—_2), an ice bucket,
and 5 plates (1 LB, 2 LB/Ampicillin, 1 LB/Arabinose, and 1 LB/Ampicillin

begin the experiment, the 2 micro test tubes needed to be gathered and labeled with
one written as +pGLO and the other as pGLO . After that was finished, the labeled

Human Ancestors
Human Ancestors, including the First apes, have a very small brain, but with the
evolution of conduct, so did the human brain. The rapid development of human
intelligence has been attributed to human induced changes in the surrounding
environment changes and the living environment. This led to the expansion of
specific regions of the brain, greatly different humanmature compared to our
ancestors, genetic changes, which are just some of the changes have occurred in

Over the past three million years, the average global temperature has been steadily

Furthermore, the longer duration for brain development provided time for complex

The American Dream In John Irving s A Prayer For Owen
Meany
Bernie Sanders, politician and former presidential candidate, is cited as saying, For
many, the American dream has become a nightmare. Concise yet compelling, this
quote represents not only todays opposition to the idea of an American dream; it
captures a reality that has existed since the American dream s inception. On the
surface, it is a beautiful rags to riches tale, a harmless capitalist ideal; see past the
facade, however, and one will find a plethora of immorality and inequalities spanning
race, class, and gender. One of the most prominent events in American history that put
the American Dream under the citizens lens was the Vietnam War; the draft and the
loss of countless innocent lives forced the average American to reevaluate the
morality of a dream deeply ingrained in their culture. John Irvingskillfully weaves the
Vietnam War into A Prayer for Owen Meany
to highlight one of many flaws of the
American Dream; through this and many other events, Irving shows that the Dream
beats down morality and kindness, encourages unhealthy self centeredness, and does
not take into account events people cannot avoid.
First, Irving makes it clear that there is no room for morality and kindness in the
American Dream. Instead, these qualities are treated as diversions on the road to
self made. For instance, when describing the living conditions of Hester and Owen,
John tells the reader, I think that her late hours... were in part responsible for Owen
Meany s decline as a

Essay on Those Winter Sundays
Knowing Your Father
Being a child is one of the hardest stages in a person s life. They go through doing
all the wrong things in order to learn how to do the right things, and then they
socially develop into a sensible mature adult. During this stage of a young child s
life, the roles of parenting are absolutely crucial and determine a child s role that
he/she is going to play in society in the future. This is a crucial part of everyone s
life, they need to learn what they are good at and what they are not good at. In the

someone to look up to. Speaking Indifferently to him, / who had driven out the

Frederick Clegg and Miranda Grey, are shaped by events that have affected them in
the past. Some instances may be uncomfortable for the characters to reflect upon,
such as the death of Clegg s Uncle Dick, while other scenarios are more enlightening,

Prior to her capture, Miranda had been mentored by an older, more intelligent
painter named George Patson, also known as G.P., from whom she develops many
of her ideas about art and life. She makes sure all of her beliefs about art align with
his and even lists all of the ways G.P. has influenced her beliefs, most of the list
involving rules on constructing a flattering social image (Fowles 152). According
to Miranda, G.P. s personality exists as insurmountably talented and greater than
herself. As Kelsey Bennett states in her article Ethics in John Fowles s The
Collector , For G.P., principle is distinct from virtue. In an attempt to justify
himself, he falls back on the truism of youthful idealism opposed to the I know
better than you do wisdom of his greater age (Bennett). G.P s self righteous attitude
towards art is ultimately what causes Miranda to agree with his opinions regarding
art and life. Miranda is blinded by his confidence, his talent, and her own doubts to
form her own ideas about art and artists. Fowles visualizes Miranda s vulnerability
in how she constructs her beliefs around G.P. s in order to display how she her
ideals are molded by him, which ultimately conveys how willing she is to be made

You dream of an unfamiliar hand being placed on your elbow. It is tender and
adoring, but at the same moment it has a gargantuan power that easily lifts you
awake. You are suspended over a countryside at dawn. You gaze downward and you
realize that this cosmic expanse extending out to the horizon and distant beyond it is
all your property. The existence you have endured and have yet to live stretches out
beneath you. It s surprisingly gigantic, a complete continent sheltered with a subtle
cobalt vapor. You can scarcely familiarize yourself, but you worship this territory
from deep within your spirit. You marvel at that, but just for a short minute, because it
then occurs to you what this immeasurable immense and magnificent ground beneath
you is: it s called love.
As you slowly drift downwards, you are still gazing, lost in thought, at the landscape
before your eyes. You touch down gently, grateful to feel the earth below your feet. A
delicate fog surrounds you. You see a lightin front of and up above you. A mighty
tower looms before you. Completely solitary, it rises from the landscape like a pillar.
It is beautiful and strangely familiar, as if you had been there many times before.
Light comes from a small window set high in the facade. Something wonderful is
shining there, gentle and friendly. As you walk around the tower, you see an open
door. You go inside, where a broad, winding staircase greets you. Each step, each
stone is familiar.
What Does It Mean To Be Truly Educated
What does it mean to be truly educated? Currently, education is based on grade point
averages, standardized tests, and the length of completed courses. These are not
incorrect ways to measure education through books and lectures, however, these
methods do not measure common sense, life experience, or any other knowledge
outside of what is taught through a formal mean. I believe that knowledge is best
summarized through life experience and how each person absorbs it. Examples of
this can be deduced into three age groups: birth 13, 14 40, and 41 death.
The first age group defined is birth to 13 years of age due to the amount of essential
living skills that are taught during this age range. These skills include: eating, toilet
training,
Drummer Guy Vanderhaeghe
In Drummer, Guy Vanderhaeghe shows us how important the need for one s own
principles really is. Setting place in the early 1950 s, Vanderhaeghe shares a story
through Billy s point of view, a small town fifteen year old who starts to see the
why principles are necessary throughout a series of events. These include: Billy
standing up to his father after getting ridiculed for attending the wrong church;
assessing his teacher, Ms. Clark s view on why one needs principles; and when he
starts to reflect on how Nancy s principles dictate her decisions and how she reacts to
the peer pressure that Gene, his brother puts upon her. Vanderhaeghe shows us that
the issues in such a small town are no different than the ones we face in society...

When Nancy s friend, Doreen, made a comment that she was embarrassing (231)
her, Nancy politely replied You know I don t drink, Doreen (231). Although she is
constantly being pressured, she stands her ground and does not let anyone get in
the way of what she believes in. Towards the end, Billy tries to kiss Nancy after
walking her home. Her immediate response was What re you doing? [...] I m not
your date (235). For Nancy, kissing Gene s brother would simply be wrong because
she was originally on a date with him, not Billy. At these moments, we see that
Nancy always stands up for herself and what she feels is right, no matter what
anyone else thinks. Both Nancy and Billy have this ability to stand up for what
they believe is right because of their principles. What would come of this world if
no one had principles, let alone their own principles? Society would not be able to
function if no one had a set of moral rules to guide their actions. Vanderhaeghe
shows us why it is necessary to have principles through showing the lives of these
small town characters and how they relate to a larger picture in life. He gives us an
insight on this with three main characters: Zipper s dedication, which show how his
principles lead to hard work and not giving up; Billy s development in character
which improve his principles, and allow him to stand up for what he believes in; and

Christine Monologue
Frances made a telephone call to one of her best friends who live in Manhattan.
Her name was Christina. Frances started to tell Christina the whole situation
between Michael and herself. Christina never met Michael before. There is a weird
guy that looks at me up and down when I go shopping on Fifth Avenue said
Christina. Was his name Michael? Frances asked angrily. No, his name is Joseph. I
found out his name because one day he approached me and asked for my number. I
gave him my number and we talked every day since that day responded Christina.

Analysis Of The Book A Passage Of India
E.M. Forster s classic novel A Passage to India tells the story of a young doctor, Dr.
Aziz, and his interactions with the British citizens who are residing in India during
the time of the British Raj. Throughout the novel, the reader gets many different
viewpoints on the people and the culture of Indiaduring this point in history. The
reader sees through the eyes of the Indian people primarily through the character of
Dr. Aziz, and the perceptions of the British through the characters of Mr. Fielding,
Adela Quested, and Mrs. Moore. Through the different characters, and their differing
viewpoints, the reader can see that Forster was creating a work that expressed a
criticism that he held of the behavior of the British towards their Indian subjects.
Very early on in the novel, the reader is shown the sheer effort the British have put
into keeping themselves separated from the natives of the land over which they rule.
On the rise above the city of Chandrapore they build an entire community for
themselves that is shielded from the native land, and physically above the native
population. This lends much credence to the idea that the British felt they were
better than, or above, the native peoples (Forster 4). There are homes, gardens, and
even a community club where it would be almost impossible for a person to tell that
they were in India. Everything is modeled around making it seem like they are still in
their homeland of England. This separation from the native
Piaget s Theory Of Cognitive Development
There are some significant theories which is beneficial even today. Researchers still
utilize and take advantage from some of them and do their researches based upon
these theories. Piaget s theory of Cognitive development is one of them. While there
are some benefits and advantages to use this theory to explain cognitive
development, there are some problems showed up about this theory over time. This
essay examines problems with Piaget s theory. Firstly explains theory, than focuses on
what the results of the research are about problems and why they are become

Piaget s theory of cognitive development focuses on children s thinking differs from

Reflection On The Seamstress
The Seamstress dramatically changed how I viewed the Holocaust because it not
only showed me how intolerable the conditions were, but also how poorly the
Jews were treated. Before reading The Seamstress I did not fully grasp the concept
of the Holocaust or the fact that the Jews were scared for their lives. My
knowledge of the tragic event was very vague, and I didn t understand it was so
horrific. Not only were the survivors extremely brave, but they also suffered
unbearable scenarios which I, myself, do not believe I could withstand. Initially, the
book showed me that the Jewswere despised, preyed upon, and often felt very unsafe
just walkingin the street. It s very sad that people felt unsafe around their homes,
and where they grew up. It s also sad that Jews were harrassed in the street and
around their houses. I think you should be able to walk freely without being
nervous to be taunted. The Jews, however, couldn t walk freely, were so often spit
on, and called names by the Germans. Sadly, even the kids were being so mean to
the Jews. I believe that hate and racism is taught, and the German s definitely taught
their children to hate the Jews. The children often spit on the Jews walking in the
streetsand called them names such as, dirty Jews, filthy pigs, or whores. As if it wasn

German soldiers felt superior and could shoot any Jew they wanted for any reason,
or no reason at all. Most of the time there was no motive for the killings. The book
told us that the soldiers went and rounded up the people who remained in one
village. They were all given shovels and told to dig a long trench, six feet deep and
four feet wide. As soon as the trench was completed everyone was shot. In fact, there
were several instances were Jews were killed for no reason at all. As sad as it was,

Authenticity And Cover Song Analysis
The theory of authorship often challenge the ideals of authenticity, especially within
the context of cover songs. This is due to the fact that the composer of the song is a
separate entity from the performer. Society has often valued composer performers as
it has been encoded in culture within the past century. the attempt to understand the
past in terms of the past is paradoxically an absolutely contemporary phenomenon.
Authenticity is a historically specific abstraction and therefore, will continuously be
subjected to reconsiderations as our societal construction of authenticity changes
through time. A cover versionis seemingly an art form that contains a thin line that
dictates the authentic an artist presents their image within... Show more content on

Sincerity therefore emerges as an intrinsic factor within the concepts of both
authorship and authenticity. Sincerity and autobiography are techniques one can
employ in the service of personal authenticity, just as using traditional instruments and
singing old songs are techniques one can use in the service of cultural authenticity.
The guitar solo proposes an interesting interaction with the rock genre and a possible
reference to the version of Word Up performed by the rock band, Gun. While this is
not the same solo included in Gun s version, it is similar in construction and tone thus
demonstrating and evolution of the piece as it is passes through each artist s
rendition. As a result of this, Little Mix have provided an authentic essence of a
previous rendition within the style of rock while maintaining the songs original pop
based anthem sound. Through this analysis, it is apparent that compositions, even
within the composer s mind are rarely concrete and alterations through time are
inevitable. The notion of authenticity can consequently be challenged as society
endeavours to find that which is
Money Laundering Act 2002
B.Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 The Prevention of Money
Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA) was enacted to safeguard against those acts of
persons which are aimed at making tainted money appear as untainted. To take a
simple example, if a person earns money through, say, dealing in narcotic drugs and
thereafter takes some steps whereby it appears to have been earned through some
legitimate business, such as running a laundry shop (the classic example), it is money
laundering . Thus, the ingredients of the Act are clear: there has to be an offence,
monies have to be earned through such offence and then an act should be made
delinking such earnings from the offence and linking it with another act that is not an
offence . Relevant Provisions
Similarities Between The Crucible And Mccarthy
False statements ruin people s lives. The ideology of The Crucible, by Arthur
Miller, and McCarthyism intertwines in regards to making false accusations against
a person. It is used to make people believe that their are communist and witches.
Joseph McCarthy is a U.S senator who accused many of being communist without
evidence. Abigail from The Crucible is a puritan who falsely accused many for
being witches or doing the devil s work. Similarities lay between McCarthyismand
The Crucible manipulating people and causing problems. Joseph McCarthyis a
desperate and unlikeable U.S senator who uses fear against others, which leads to
the use of the horrific use of McCarthyism. Mccarthy is not a supporter of
communists, Thus he spread terror among his peers. His Republican colleagues
were torn between fear of his prowess and willingness to use his attacks on
President Harry Truman ( Joseph ). McCarthy claims that people working within the
U.S government are communists and that they should be exposed. Mccarthy blames
others so people see him as a hero for saving the country from communist. His
desperateness causes him to accuse his peers of being communists. For that reason
people do not want to be around him because of the terror he causes and spreads .
Mccarthy wants to do everything to address the problem of communism. Therefore, to
prove that there is a problem going on, McCarthy claimed to have in hand a list of
205 people in the U.S. State Department
The Experience of a Refugee in Casablanca
World War II was a period in which movie s depicted a sense of patriotism from
propaganda to training videos. The Germans invaded Poland and the World fell
into frenzy. Americans, with the help of France, Russia, Great Britain and later on
Italy, crushed the fronts of the Germans and stopped the Nazis from taking control
of the world. With the mess of Japanese forces attacking Pearl Harbor on December
7, 1941 the United States entered World War II. One of the most famous movies to
date came out of the Warner Bros. editor s room. Casablanca emerged out of World
War II and showed a great sense of what it was like to have been a refugee and a
runaway, seeking shelter from the Germans. With World War II going on
Hollywood shoveled out Propaganda by taking films and producing them in ways
to make you feel Patriotic and want to join the war effort. Casablanca was one of
many movies that promoted World War II by showing that the Germans were the
enemies of the world. One example in Casablanca was when Ilsa and Rick left
France because of the German take over; another was that Major Strasser was
portrayed as an enemy against the poor refugees and the Czech and Norwegian
resistance groups in Casablanca. Casablanca portrayed another way to promote
enlistment by showing resistance by the French and how Captain Renault at the end
of the movie backstabbed Major Strasser and joined Rick s side. The movie as a
whole shows the Germans as arrogant and uptight socialists; it degrades
Kudler Fine Foods Operations Management
Kudler Fine Foods (KFF) was founded by Kathy Kudler in the San Diego
metropolitan area in 1998. Kathy developed a business plan for the store due to a
need for an upscale specialty food store in La Jolla. After opening KFF on June 18,
1998 and concluding a profitable year, she opened a second and third store (Kudler
Fine Foods, 2008).
KFF has seen strong success and now must ensure continued growth by expanding
services, improving the efficiency of operations, and increasing the consumer
purchase cycle (Kudler Fine Foods, 2008). Each member of the organization must
play a key role in achieving these objectives. Special attention must be paid to the
supply chain and business processes, especially when developing a new product
offering. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The three departments managers are encouraged to check with the managers of the
other stores to make sure the company is receiving the best price. They should
combine their efforts when ordering from the organic produce suppliers. The more
produce that KFF buys as a total the better the wholesale price will be. There will be
more room to negotiate with larger orders and less time will be spent developing a
contract and forecasting inventory.
A supply chain solution to ordering would be to invest in purchasing software set up
on a network for KFF management and store managers to access at anytime. This
software would allow all stores to place orders cohesively. Each store manager can
see how much product is being sold in each store and compare sales. If there is an
overstock in one store, managers can move inventory to another store by looking at
the data on the network. Kathy can implement a Just in Time (JIT) system. This is
the concept behind creating the firm s product in the least amount of time (Gomez
Mejia Balkin, 2002). Kathy and the management team will develop a smooth and
integrated production process. Possibly in the future KFF can use the same type of
JIT inventory systems as Wal Mart. The inventory reorders are generated as products
are scanned at check out. As soon as an items hits a certain number in stock, the
information is sent to the supplier for reorder

Visits From Inside The Black Mirror

consumers desire for social acceptance.

Cheese In The Super Bowl
The Super Bowl is a sporting event that is famous for producing funny and well
known advertisements. During the 2016 Super Bowl, Taco Bell released a
successful ad for a new food item. This product is known as the Quesolupa with its
key feature being a unique cheese filled shell. In the ad itself, it is first expressed
that cheese put inside a taco shell is a pretty big deal, in fact it is bigger than just
about everything. To express this, a series of clips follow the initial claim showing
just how big of a deal it really is. Some examples claim that this product from Taco
Bell is going to be a bigger deal than virtual reality, drones, or just the Internet as a
whole. Due to the large number of people of different demographics that watch...

This implied view is another reasons this commercial works so well. The idea behind
the advertising used here is once again not to tell the viewer what to do, but instead,
to create positive associations with the company and the product being sold.

commercial that the target demographic could relate to, people will be influenced by
what they saw even if they don t know it, which in the end, is a sign of persuasion

Eu and the Fundamental Rights..
The European Community (EC) has expressed through treaty provision and case law
that the protection of the fundamental rights of EC citizens is vitally important.
However, the EC itself is not currently bound to a set of agreed fundamental rights.
For years, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) has respected and protected
fundamental rights by considering the position of state constitutions and the terms of
the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). Yet, the ECJ is not bound to
follow these. It is not bound to the ECHR, as it is not a signatory.
In 1999, when the member states of the EC also drew up the European Union Charter
of Fundamental Rights as part of the new constitution. However the documents have
not been formally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, given the ECJ s long standing use of the ECHR, the Charter will have a weaker
influence.
With the current political situation with regard to the Charter it is unlikely that it
will be given legal effect in their current state and the ECJ may feel reluctant to use
the Charter should it give effect to rights that may later be left out of the final
document. Furthermore, giving the EC and the ECJ more power in more areas is an
idea that many member states are sceptical of, and this may delay and even prevent
the legal status of the treaty from ever becoming. Given all these facts it is therefore
fair to assume the Charter is currently an unnecessary document.
The introduction of the Charter does however raise questions of how the
relationships of the Luxembourg and Strasbourg courts may be affected. The
current position of the courts, as described by academic, S Douglas Scott , is a
symbiotic interaction...working out a solution to the sometimes awkward co
existence of the EU and ECHR . The ECJ and Strasbourg courts make reference to
the others law but on a limited basis as to avoid conflict.
As has already been seen, the ECJ frequently examines the terms and protections of
the ECHR when considering issues of fundamental rights in cases before it. As for
the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, it has previously had little to do
with the ECJ, especially due to its more specific nature. However, with the influx
Literary Analysis Of Maya Angelou s Champion Of The
World
The excerpt titled Champion of the World is extracted from Maya Angelou s
autobiographical work I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, published in 1969. This
passage tells the story of Angelou s community gathering at the local store to
watch the match between Joe Louis and Primo Carnera in June of 1935. Angelou
describes the spirit of the black community in Stamps, Arkansas as they listen to a
match between two heavyweight boxers. Angelou Uses extensive imagery to
depict the tension before the match, the excitement during the match and the
celebration after the match. The imagery, hyperboles and many other rhetorical
devices help to give the reader a great sense of the events depicted in this excerpt.
In the first section of the story, Angelou uses figures of speech and extensive detail
to show the importance of the event to her community. The first line, The last inch
of space was filled, yet people continued to wedge themselves along the walls of
the Store (par. 1), Angelou uses a hyperbole to give vivid imagery that emphasizes
the number of people in the Store. The second line where Uncle Willie had turned
up the radio so that youngsters on the porch wouldn t miss a word (par.1), shows
the devotion and involvement of the entire community. The simile used by
Angelou to represent the mood shift, ... as a black sky is streaked with lightning
(par. 2), shows the sudden, unexpected, and fast change from tense to high spirited
talk. Angelou then goes to give examples the pre game chatter like Joe s gonna
whip that cracker like it s open season(par. 3 4). The diction used shows the culture
of that community. The hyperboles and details give a great view of the settings in
the story. Angelou then continues to tell the story using imagery of the crowd s
reaction to the announcer s voice. The line In the Store the crowd grunted (par. 6),
gives a great image of the group s general reaction before the fight quickly
continues. Angelou continues to giving the crowds reaction after each line the
announcer blares (par. 7 11). The fight then takes a quick break for ads. The
announcer declared the break by giving a formal acknowledgment to the audience
(par. 12). By doing so, Angelou ... wondered if the announcer gave any
Critical Analysis Of Self Leadership And Positive
Psychology
Introduction
Utilising a combined self leadership and positive psychology perspective, I will self
analyse my strengths and weaknesses through the use of questionnaires completed
throughout the semester to gain a deeper understanding of my personality traits in
my chosen career. The career path I have chosen is Human Resources (HR) and
everything analysed will be in respect of that path.
A definition of self leadership is the process of influencing oneself to establish the
self direction and self motivation needed to perform (Manz, 1995). Positive
Psychology is the study of the conditions and processes that contribute to the
flourishing or optimal functioning of people, groups, and institutions (Gable Haidt,
2005; Sheldon King, 2001).
Critical analysis of Self leadership and Positive Psychology
Self leadership is very important for a number of reasons, including:
1.To enhance job effectiveness and develop personally and professionally.
2.To achieve career potential and growth such as promotions, salary increases, job
satisfaction and job choice.
3.To enhance individual and group well being such as health and happiness.
4.Becoming an emotionally intelligent professional capable of leading effectively.
By gaining a clearer understanding of self leadership the elements of positive
psychology can be incorporated. Positive psychology looks at the circumstances and
processes that enable individuals, teams and organisations to grow and develop at a
high level.

The Peoples Crusade
Post 1 Pope Urban II has called the council of Clermont together to give a speech
on the problem of the Muslims attaching the catholic pilgrimages. Part of his
speech is as follows; On this account I, or rather the Lord, beseech you as Christ s
heralds to publish this everywhere and to persuade all people of whatever rank,
foot soldiers and knights, poor and rich, to carry aid promptly to those Christians
and to destroy that vile race from the lands of our friends. I say this to those who are
present, it is meant also for those who are absent. Moreover, Christ commands it.
(from the lesson)
Post 2 The Pope has called for a crusade to the Holy Lands to take them from the
Muslims and to open up the paths to the holy land. One monk seems to have been
effected more than the rest. Peter the Hermit has made an unorganized army pulled
towards a common goal. With his sermons, Peter has drawn up an army of peasants
and some knights to move on towards Constantinople. This has been named the
peoples crusade. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

pushing eastward into the Turkish area.
Post 5 Monarchs ride out. King Louis VII of France and Emperor Conrad III of
Germany have ridden out with the Knights of Templar, Hospitaller, and Teutonic in

Immaculee Ilibagiz Influence On Forgiveness
ImmaculeГ© Ilibagiza was born in Rwanda in 1972. She had a mother, father and
two older brothers. When ImmaculeГ© was 22 years old she experienced the loss
of her whole family within the Rwanda holocaust. When their nation started war,
ImmaculeГ© was hidden within a pastor s small bathroom with a group of seven
other women for three months. Although her experience was long and horrific she
made it worthwhile by learning to forgive even the unforgivable through the power
of forgiveness and faith. After she had finally been able to escape the genocide,
she became an immigrant of the United States and started writing books of her
experiences and how she was able to keep her sanity. She devoted her life to helping
others forgive and heal, especially those who have been victims of genocide.
Countless people have learned to forgive the unforgivable through her words and
example (Ogbozor).

who had done things as wicked and depraved as the killers who were ripping
Rwanda apart deserved forgiveness (Left To Tell). After ImmaculeГ© IIibagiza had
survived the horrific Rwanda genocide she decided to become more engaged with
forgiveness and faith. Her first task was to forgive those who had been involved with
the genocide, specifically the man who had killed her family. By ImmaculeГ©

confident in forgiving. She also demonstrates that forgiveness is the cure to moving

What is Photography
Photography is seeing what is invisible, capturing the moments that last a lifetime. It
can hold all the mystery of the world in a single picture. It is a visual diary,
containing the secrets of the earth. This great pastime is used all around the world.
The good, the bad, and the ugly makes up photography. Anyone can enjoy
photographyincluding you. There are many different parts in photography such as its
history and equipment. There are many types of photography as well. Photography
in today s society is called the killer fine art. Photography was invented around the
1820s. It is now the most growing hobby in the world. The first cameracreated is
called the Camera Obscura. The Camera Obscura was used during the 13th 14th
centuries. It was a dark closed box shaped space with a hole on one side. The
Camera Obsurca got its name from the Latin word Dark Room . The man behind the
camera was Joseph Nicephore. Other important men in photography history include
Alfred Stieglitz (who changed photography into art) and Henri Carrtier Bresson (the
father of photojournalism). The next major camera movement was film cameras.
These cameras came out in the early 1900s. This movement gave the Granddaddy
camera its name. The Granddaddy camera is also known as a 35 mm (millimeter)
point and shoot. There were many issues with film cameras. With a film camera, you
could not scan an imagewithout it possibly getting destroyed. Also with a film
camera the film had to be developed. There
Federal Enforcement Act Case Study
On Tuesday, February 7, 2017 Senate Bill 10, the Municipal Sanctuary and Federal
Enforcement Act passed the Pennsylvania State Senate.
The Senate Bill, sponsored by Senator Guy Reschenthaler (R Allegheny) was written
in an attempt to bar municipalities from adopting so called sanctuary cities policies
that refer to the refusal to comply with federal detention orders issued by
Immigrations and Custom Enforcement.
Moreover, SB 10 proposes to withhold all state grant funding from local governments
that do not follow any law, mandate, request, or order from federal immigration
authorities. It also holds local governments liable for damages if they release a person
despite a request from Immigration and Customs Enforcement to detain the person
and the person then commits injury to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this bill becomes law, people will be held in jail when they should not be held. We
are prepared to challenge illegal detentions when they occur.2
SB 10, would halt all state grant funding from the Federal Government. This is up to
and including grants for 911 service and transportation infrastructure and would affect
local governments that do not follow all immigration orders from the federal
government.
Passage of SB 10 would also hold counties liable for damages if they release an
individual after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued a detainer
request and the individual commits injury to person or property thereafter. The bill
does not define or specify what injury to person or property means.
ICE detainer requests are orders from ICE to a state or local government to detain an
individual to allow them to investigate their immigration status. The requests are not
reviewed by a court and are not supported by a finding of probable cause. This is
another reason I will not support this
Machiavellian Perception of Reality Essay examples
Machiavellian Perception of Reality
Introduction Written almost five centuries ago during Italy s era of fractious chaos,
Niccolo Machiavelli s, The Prince became the How To book for the effective
acquisition, governance, and retainment of power over principalities. Within the
pages of this political treatise, Machiavelli duly explains the qualities of a successful
prince. However, he also explains how the importance of these very qualities affect
the prince s public image and reputation and how these play a vital role in the
retention of power while keeping others from conspiring and rising against him. The
ideal prince should be virtuous in that in that he should be merciful, faithful, humane,
religious and upright ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A respectable reputation is necessary since it parallels public image. The people will
judge everything the prince publically says and does, which will then become his
perceived reputation by those very people.
For this reason a prince ought to take care that he never lets anything slip from his
lips that is not replete with the above named five qualities, that he may appear to
him who see and hears him altogether merciful, faithful, humane, upright, and
religious. There is nothing more necessary to appear to have than this last quality,
inasmuch as men judge generally more by the eye than by the hand, because it
belongs to everybody to see you, to few to come in touch with you. Every one sees
what you appear to be, few really know what you are, and those few dare not
oppose themselves to the opinion of the many, who have the majesty of the state to
defend them; and in the actions of all men, and especially of princes, which it is not
prudent to challenge, one judges by the result (Machiavelli, Chapter XVIII, 2012).
Machiavelli also confronts the reputational risks and concern of liberality and
meanness. With liberality, the prince generally leaves the people alone mostly tax
free. Unfortunately, the more generously the prince gives, the poorer he will
inevitably become. Thus, he creates the necessity of taxing the people, which fosters
resentment among the people. However, Machiavelli states that it is better for the
prince to be considered a miser

The outside of the building a sleek combination of recycled redwood and interlocking solar panels. The inside s high vaulted ceilings and sleek white pillars formed a cavernous inner space. Three classrooms divided the building into working spaces. The bright L.E.D lighting and modern fixtures completed the buildings futuristic design. This building was the newest in a long line of additions to my middle school s campus. Ironically just two years later I owned a pair of my own pet rats in highschool, I know that they are not the monsters that I was made to believe but smart, clean and loving animals when raised properly. Unfortunately this kind of fallacy is not uncommon, we all hold beliefs that are wrong but have not been challenged or confronted before. Carl Sagan, a prominent astrophysicist and professor, touches on these topics in his essay The dragon in my garage , In this essay he confronts the idea that it s possible to believe something that to others is obviously false by constructing an imaginary dragon as an illustration. Though it is well known that dragons are not real, he uses this as a thought experiment to describe the misplaced beliefs that people can hold. In his example Sagan s dragon cannot be measured for all intents and purposes besides rare physical manifestations of it s power, yet people choose to believe it s existence based solely off these small and refutable pieces of evidence. Despite Sagan s effort to disprove this dragon does all he can to disprove this dragon, by coming up with a myriad of ways to test its existence yet it is unsuccessful as the dragon is always one step ahead of

Snow on Arizona SnowBowl Essay Snow on Arizona SnowBowl Why would anyone propose to use millions of gallons of water a day to desecrate sacred Indian land, in a State that is going through a drought? Well, the Arizona SnowBowl has proposed to do just that; make artificial snow on their ski resort. The proposal is for their own economical benefit with no respect for the holy San Francisco Peaks, where the Ski resort is located. The San Francisco Peaks are located in Northern Arizona, seven miles outside of Flagstaff. The weather on these peaks is not very consistent. Some winters there s excess of snow for skiing, then there are years like the 2001 2002 ski season where there were only four inches of snow the whole winter. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The San Francisco Peaks are a sacred place to thirteen tribes in Northern Arizona. The tribes go up to the mountain for religious beliefs and prayers. Specifically, the tribes pray to the rain gods. If snow machines are put on the mountain, that would defeat the purpose in praying for rain. The holiness of the peaks would be lost for the Native Americans, knowing that their prayers are disrespected by the Arizona SnowBowl. The habitat and ecosystem of the San Francisco Peaks is rare. The Mountains are located in the middle of the desert. The vegetation on the mountain is uncommon. The addition of snow machines and remodeling of ski runs would greatly change the terrain of the mountain. In order to put new ski runs and snow machines on the mountain many impacting preliminary events must happen first. One major event would be the removal of trees for the new ski runs and piping for the snow machines. The trees that will be cut are on the edge of a wilderness area, which is out of bounds for skiing. This means people will be more inclined to ski in out of bounds areas. Also, a gigantic water pipe will be run from the Rio De Flag water treatment plant to the upper parts of the mountain. This will involve digging trenches, cutting trees, and using heavy machinery. All of these actions will forever impact the mountain. The Arizona SnowBowl could not have picked a worse time to remodel their ski

The American Dream In John Irving s A Prayer For Owen Meany Bernie Sanders, politician and former presidential candidate, is cited as saying, For many, the American dream has become a nightmare. On the surface, it is a beautiful rags to riches tale, a harmless capitalist ideal; see past the facade, however, and one will find a plethora of immorality and inequalities spanning race, class, and gender. One of the most prominent events in American history that put the American Dream under the citizens lens was the Vietnam War; the draft and the loss of countless innocent lives forced the average American to reevaluate the morality of a dream deeply ingrained in their culture. Reflection On The Seamstress The Seamstress dramatically changed how I viewed the Holocaust because it not only showed me how intolerable the conditions were, but also how poorly the Jews were treated. Before reading The Seamstress I did not fully grasp the concept of the Holocaust or the fact that the Jews were scared for their lives. My knowledge of the tragic event was very vague, and I didn t understand it was so horrific. Not only were the survivors extremely brave, but they also suffered unbearable scenarios which I, myself, do not believe I could withstand. Initially, the book showed me that the Jewswere despised, preyed upon, and often felt very unsafe just walkingin the street. It s very sad that people felt unsafe around their homes, and where they grew up. It s also sad that Jews were harrassed in the street and around their houses. I think you should be able to walk freely without being nervous to be taunted. The Jews, however, couldn t walk freely, were so often spit on, and called names by the Germans. Sadly, even the kids were being so mean to the Jews. I believe that hate and racism is taught, and the German s definitely taught their children to hate the Jews. The children often spit on the Jews walking in the streetsand called them names such as, dirty Jews, filthy pigs, or whores. As if it wasn t bad enough to suffer around their home, the... • 29. Authenticity And Cover Song Analysis The theory of authorship often challenge the ideals of authenticity, especially within the context of cover songs. This is due to the fact that the composer of the song is a separate entity from the performer. Society has often valued composer performers as it has been encoded in culture within the past century. the attempt to understand the past in terms of the past is paradoxically an absolutely contemporary phenomenon. Authenticity is a historically specific abstraction and therefore, will continuously be subjected to reconsiderations as our societal construction of authenticity changes through time. Sincerity therefore emerges as an intrinsic factor within the concepts of both authorship and authenticity. Sincerity and autobiography are techniques one can employ in the service of personal authenticity, just as using traditional instruments and singing old songs are techniques one can use in the service of cultural authenticity. The guitar solo proposes an interesting interaction with the rock genre and a possible reference to the version of Word Up performed by the rock band, Gun. To take a simple example, if a person earns money through, say, dealing in narcotic drugs and thereafter takes some steps whereby it appears to have been earned through some legitimate business, such as running a laundry shop (the classic example), it is money laundering . They should combine their efforts when ordering from the organic produce suppliers. The more produce that KFF buys as a total the better the wholesale price will be. There will be more room to negotiate with larger orders and less time will be spent developing a contract and forecasting inventory. A supply chain solution to ordering would be to invest in purchasing software set up on a network for KFF management and store managers to access at anytime. However, the EC itself is not currently bound to a set of agreed fundamental rights. Yet, the ECJ is not bound to follow these. It is not bound to the ECHR, as it is not a signatory. With the current political situation with regard to the Charter it is unlikely that it will be given legal effect in their current state and the ECJ may feel reluctant to use the Charter should it give effect to rights that may later be left out of the final document. Furthermore, giving the EC and the ECJ more power in more areas is an idea that many member states are sceptical of, and this may delay and even prevent the legal status of the treaty from ever becoming. Literary Analysis Of Maya Angelou s Champion Of The World The excerpt titled Champion of the World is extracted from Maya Angelou s autobiographical work I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, published in 1969. This passage tells the story of Angelou s community gathering at the local store to watch the match between Joe Louis and Primo Carnera in June of 1935. Angelou describes the spirit of the black community in Stamps, Arkansas as they listen to a match between two heavyweight boxers. Angelou Uses extensive imagery to depict the tension before the match, the excitement during the match and the celebration after the match. The imagery, hyperboles and many other rhetorical devices help to give the reader a great sense of the events depicted in this excerpt. In the first section of the story, Angelou uses figures of speech and extensive detail to show the importance of the event to her community. The first line, The last inch of space was filled, yet people continued to wedge themselves along the walls of the Store (par. 1), Angelou uses a hyperbole to give vivid imagery that emphasizes the number of people in the Store. The second line where Uncle Willie had turned up the radio so that youngsters on the porch wouldn t miss a word (par.1), shows the devotion and involvement of the entire community. The simile used by Angelou to represent the mood shift, ... as a black sky is streaked with lightning (par. 2), shows the sudden, unexpected, and fast change from tense to high spirited talk. Angelou then goes to give examples the pre game chatter like Joe s gonna whip that cracker like it s open season(par. 3 4). The diction used shows the culture of that community. The hyperboles and details give a great view of the settings in the story. Angelou then continues to tell the story using imagery of the crowd s reaction to the announcer s voice. The line In the Store the crowd grunted (par. 6), gives a great image of the group s general reaction before the fight quickly continues. Angelou continues to giving the crowds reaction after each line the announcer blares (par. 7 11). The fight then takes a quick break for ads.
