Gender refers to the roles and responsibilities of men and women that are created in our families, our societies and our cultures. The concept of gender also includes the expectations held about the characteristics, aptitudes and likely behaviours of both women and men (femininity and masculinity). Gender roles and expectations are learned. They can change over time and they vary within and between cultures. Systems of social differentiation such as political status, class, ethnicity, physical and mental disability, age and more, modify gender roles. The concept of gender is vital because, applied to social analysis, it reveals how women’s subordination (or men’s domination) is socially constructed. As such, the subordination can be changed or ended. It is not biologically predetermined nor is it fixed forever.

The education system which was evolved first in ancient India is known as the Vedic system of education. In other words, the ancient system of education was based on the Vedas and therefore it was given the name of Vedic Educational System. In Vedic era education had a very prominent place in society. It was being considered as pious and important for society. In the eyes of Aryans, education was the only means to acquire, prosperity in the field of physical, mental, spiritual and social developments. Education was must for everybody for becoming cultured. In absence of education people were considered as uncultured and animal like thing. Education was an instrument to show new paths and knowledge to us. Education opens our hidden qualities and helps people to attain Salvation. It can be regarded as ―Third Eye‘of human beings. Through education only a man gets rid from debt of Guru and so was the feeling of people at that time. In short by putting different logic, we can say that education was the most important aspect of human life of that period. Terms such as knowledge, awakening, humility, modesty etc. are often used to characterize education in the Vedic period.Educational Achievements of Vedic age were as follows:
1. Education emphasized the development of spirituality the ashram system was adopted for paying of the individual’s debt towards the Gods, his forefathers, his teacher and society.
2. The minds of the parents were first prepared to instill in them a desire for the education of their children. It has been said that those parents are the enemy of the child who do not teach their children.
3. Great attention was paid to the development of Childs character. Teachers laid stress on integral development of the individuals’ personality.
4. Social skill was evolved through training in fulfillment of duties
5. Efforts were made for the preservation and propagation of the national culture.
6. Education was free. Its expenses were borne by the society and the king
7. While living in Gurukul the child imbibed education in a favourable environment
8. A student was compelled to obey the ideals of the Gurukul. He had to shoulder the burden of existence through begging for alms. This practice developed humility and tolerance in the student
9. In developing the students character attention was paid to his nature, early experiences upbringing and circumstance
10. Self study (Swadhyaya) was considered more important
11. The medium of education was divine pronouncement
12. The examination was oral one. The student was required to give oral answers in a congregation of scholars. It he satisfied them, he was given a degree or little. The consensus of the scholars’ opinion was essential for obtaining such a title.
Education is an instrument which is needed to move us towards a sustainable & ecological future.
There is a need to re-evaluate & re-learn different ways of how we work within the world & how we interact & relate to it with each other. To achieve any of this, we need to educate our self.

Addressing the Equity Gap in Education Bridging Socioeconomic Disparities in ...Birtikendrajit
This blog explores the pressing issue of the equity gap in education, which refers to the unequal distribution of resources and opportunities among students from different socioeconomic backgrounds. It identifies challenges such as inadequate funding, unequal access to resources, and limited support for students facing economic hardship. The blog then outlines strategies for bridging the gap, including equitable funding, targeted interventions, access to technology, culturally responsive teaching, community partnerships, professional development, and policy advocacy. By prioritizing equity and implementing these strategies, we can create a more inclusive and equitable education system where all students have the opportunity to succeed.

Quality Education is widely regarded as the cornerstone of individual and societal development. It empowers individuals, fosters innovation, and fuels economic growth. However, the ideal of quality education for all remains elusive due to persistent inequality in education. This disparity not only limits the potential of individuals but also hinders progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Inequality in education
1.
2. Inequality in education means a system under which all the sections of
society are not given equal opportunity to get education. In India changes
in political, economic and social life are a result of educational inequality.
Those who are educated take the maximum benefit out of the system and
take maximum concessions from those in authority.
Educational inequality is the unequal distribution of academic resources
which includes school funding, qualified and experienced teachers,
books and technologies to socially excluded communities. These
communities tend to be historically disadvantaged and oppressed.
Inequality leads to major differences in the educational success or
efficiency of these individuals and ultimately suppresses social and
economic mobility.
3. ‣ Lack of National Education System :
Nationalization of education has not yet been possible in our country. So, there is
huge difference in structure of education , curriculum, in standard of schools,
evaluation system; in standard of recruitment and training of teachers in different
states. Government has no control over private institutes.
‣ Religious Beliefs :
Religious beliefs can be at variance with formal educational
requirements. For example, in predominantly Muslim areas,
formal education lagged behind because of religion.
‣ Socioeconomic Factors :
A wide gap exists between the rich and poor. This wide gap is an
obvious cause of educational inequality. Wealthy members of
the society can buy expensive and better education for their
children.
‣ Lack of Adequate Educational Institutions :
In various regions of our country there is no standard educational institutes. In
rural areas, inaccessible mountainous regions, areas of isolated settlements
institutes for primary education can be seen, but there is no institute for upper-
primary level.
4. ‣ Lack of Qualified Teachers :
Lack of qualified teachers is another obstacle for equality in education. Not just that
there are still untrained teachers in primary and secondary level.
‣ Lack of Girls’ School :
Because of discrimination and economic problems it has
not yet become possible to establish girls’ schools which is
a hindrance for equality in education.
‣ Lack of Teaching-aids :
For successful teaching-learning teaching aids have and
important role. There is lack of teaching-aids at school level
because of financial crisis.
‣ Difference in Standard of Educational
Institutes :
Infrastructure of institutes, standard of teachers, teaching-
learning, co-curricular activities etc. are different in schools of
villages and towns, in govt. or govt.-aided institutes and private
institutes. And it is a vital cause of inequality in education.
School in village
School in town
‣ Regional Differences :
In developed areas there are many schools and colleges in close proximity where students
are getting much more opportunity than those who are living in regions where there is no
secondary school or colleges or primary school in close proximity. It increases inequality in
education.
5. ‣ Students with Special needs :
The number of students who are mentally and physically
disabled is increasing gradually. Though government has
programmes for them but those are not being implemented
properly. There is also lack of trained teachers for students
with special needs.
‣ Difference of Home Environment :
The parents and guardian of children living in villages or slum area of cities are illiterate.
So such home environment is not quite favourable for education. Children living in middle
class and upper class families who have educated parents or members in family usually
have better opportunity of education.
‣ Gender Discrimination :
In our patriarchal society girls are valued less than boys. A section of society have
negative attitude towards women education which hinders women education.
‣ Administrative weakness :
Administrative failure in educational sector is indicated by improper implementation of
Right to Education Act, lack of Government’s policy, improper implementation of Mid-
day Meal Scheme, lack of control on education system and nepotism of political leaders.
6. ‣ A single Education System across the Country :
To bring equality in education, there should be a single − curriculum, evaluation
system, standard of education, recruitment of teachers, standard of teachers’ training
across the country.
‣ Abolition of Regional Discrimination :
There is a huge difference in opportunity and development of education in different
regions of the country. This differences have to be reduced as much as possible.
‣ Development of Communication & Transportation :
In mountainous regions of our country the communication and transportation
system is not that developed. So many willing students cannot complete their
primary of higher education. The scenario can be seen in rural areas. Government
should take necessary steps to improve communication, roads and transportation.
‣ Scholarship :
It is important to start scholarship in all sectors of education. It should be made more
flexible for poor and studious students. This will help economically backward classes
to acquire higher education.
7. ‣ Common School System :
Common school system is a vital step towards establishing equality in education.
The features of such schools are −
‣ Equal opportunity for all in all schools.
‣ Same standard of education in all schools.
‣ Education of child won’t depend on wealth but on child’s intellect and talent
and on citizen entity.
‣ Expansion of Open Education :
To establish equal opportunity is education effectively, expansion of open education
is a good strategy. In mountainous and rural areas where opportunity for formal
education is limited , it is necessary to establish open school, open university and
distance education.
8. Inequality in education is pretty evident in India. Though Government has
taken several measures, has started various programmes and scholarships but
benefits of all these failed to reach to all who need these. It has happened
because of inefficiency of authorities who are responsible for these. So
government should keep an eye on its proper implementation by giving strict
instructions to the concerned authorities. At the same time government
should continue awareness campaign to establish equality in education.
