 Enriquez (1992:43-45) In pursuit of a
  better understanding of indigenous filipino
  values made an analysis of human
  interaction as observed in everyday life and
  as codified in the language.
 To him, the core concept of Filipino
  interpersonal behavior is kapwa (shared
  inner self, which is the unity of the “self”
  and “others”).
 Among the values he discussed were:
 1.Pakikipagkapwa- which implies accepting and
  dealing with a person as an equal and an awareness of
  shared identity.
 2.Kagandahang-loob- (shared inner mobility)-
  which is shown in the act of generousity display
  spontaneously on account of the goodness of heart and
  inherent graciousness.
 3.Karangalan (dignity)- refers to a person’s self-
  esteem and has no relation to how others in the
  society view him.
 4.Kalayaan- Life itself. This implies freedom of the
  society within the limits of the rules, laws, social
  norms and resources.
 5.Katarungan (social justice)- which carries with it
  the consideration of fairness and promptness in the
  defense of certain basic rights and the need for the
  truth and reason.
 6.Katotohanan (truth and reason)- this may be
  observed in the implementation of justice.
 7.Pagkakaisa (unity)- this is the highest level of
  interaction where there is fusion, oneness, and trust.
 8.Kapayapaan(peace)- this is the consequence of
  katarungan and can be observed in situation where
  one is a victim of injustice.
 CENTENNIAL VALUES OF PHILIPPINES
 INDEPENDENCE- was celebrated from
 June 12, 1998 July 1999 in festive gaiety as
 well as serious reflection. This was to
 commemorate the proclamation of
 Philippine Independence from Spain. Our
 freedom was obtained through the
 patriotism and bravery of our heroes who
 fought against the tyranny of Spaniards.
 Patriotism (Pagka-makabansa)
 *Nationalism (Pagka-makabayan)
 *Fairness (Pagka-maging patas)
 *Determined will (Katatagan/ tibay
 ng loob)
 Commitment (Pakikilahok)
 *Peace (Kapayapaan)
 *Unity (Pagkakaisa)
 *Protecting the Environment (Pagka-
 makakalikasan)

 Evangelization (CLAYE) of San Carlos
 Seminary Lay Force)- was one of those who
 gave an inspirational talk on these
 centennial values.

 Many forces are at work which keep our
  society and culture changing.
 THE DECS VALUES EDUCATION
  PROGRAM FRAMEWORK
 Launched Values Education Program based
  on rational understanding, that is to say , a
  philosophy of the human person.

Indigenous filipino values

  • 1.
  • 2.  Enriquez (1992:43-45) In pursuit of a better understanding of indigenous filipino values made an analysis of human interaction as observed in everyday life and as codified in the language.  To him, the core concept of Filipino interpersonal behavior is kapwa (shared inner self, which is the unity of the “self” and “others”).
  • 3.  Among the values he discussed were:  1.Pakikipagkapwa- which implies accepting and dealing with a person as an equal and an awareness of shared identity.  2.Kagandahang-loob- (shared inner mobility)- which is shown in the act of generousity display spontaneously on account of the goodness of heart and inherent graciousness.  3.Karangalan (dignity)- refers to a person’s self- esteem and has no relation to how others in the society view him.  4.Kalayaan- Life itself. This implies freedom of the society within the limits of the rules, laws, social norms and resources.
  • 4.  5.Katarungan (social justice)- which carries with it the consideration of fairness and promptness in the defense of certain basic rights and the need for the truth and reason.  6.Katotohanan (truth and reason)- this may be observed in the implementation of justice.  7.Pagkakaisa (unity)- this is the highest level of interaction where there is fusion, oneness, and trust.  8.Kapayapaan(peace)- this is the consequence of katarungan and can be observed in situation where one is a victim of injustice.
  • 5.  CENTENNIAL VALUES OF PHILIPPINES INDEPENDENCE- was celebrated from June 12, 1998 July 1999 in festive gaiety as well as serious reflection. This was to commemorate the proclamation of Philippine Independence from Spain. Our freedom was obtained through the patriotism and bravery of our heroes who fought against the tyranny of Spaniards.
  • 6.  Patriotism (Pagka-makabansa)  *Nationalism (Pagka-makabayan)  *Fairness (Pagka-maging patas)  *Determined will (Katatagan/ tibay ng loob)
  • 7.  Commitment (Pakikilahok)  *Peace (Kapayapaan)  *Unity (Pagkakaisa)  *Protecting the Environment (Pagka- makakalikasan)
  • 8.  Fr.Edwinn Mercado-(Catholic Lay Evangelization (CLAYE) of San Carlos Seminary Lay Force)- was one of those who gave an inspirational talk on these centennial values.
  • 9.  Makabansa (Patriotism)  *Makabayan (Nationalism)  *Matatag ng loob (Determined will)  *Pagiging Patas (Fairness)
  • 10.  Tunay na pakikilahok (Commitment)  *Pagkamapayapa (Peace)  *Maka-kalikasan (Protection of the Environment)
  • 11.  THE SHAPING OF SOCIAL VALUES IN SCHOOLS  Many forces are at work which keep our society and culture changing.
  • 12.  THE DECS VALUES EDUCATION PROGRAM FRAMEWORK  Launched Values Education Program based on rational understanding, that is to say , a philosophy of the human person.
