Principles of Ethics in Global
Citizenship
Demonstrate non-violence,
compassion , kindness and
unity in diversity as a global
citizen and;
As UNESCO defines it, global citizenship is a sense
of belonging to a broader community and common
humanity. Thus, this concept implies thinking beyond
the identity that one has in a certain locality and
taking action for the cause of a wider community, of
the whole world. Similar to the rights and
responsibilities that a citizen enjoys in a certain
country, being a global citizen also means partaking
and complying with the ethical standards or
principles in order to achieve the common good and
to do things that is morally and socially acceptable
within society.
INTRODUCTION
Principles of Ethics in Global Citizenship
1. Respect for Human Dignity
Global citizens uphold the inherent worth and dignity of
every human being, treating others with respect,
fairness, and compassion.
2. Non-Discrimination
Global citizens reject all forms of discrimination,
including those based on race, gender, ethnicity,
religion, nationality, or any other characteristic, and
work towards creating inclusive societies.
4.Environmental Stewardship
Global citizens recognize the importance
of environmental sustainability and take
responsibility for protecting and
preserving the natural world for present
and future generations.
3. Social Justice
Global citizens advocate for social justice,
striving to eliminate poverty, inequality, and
injustice in all its forms, and promoting equal
opportunities for all.
6. Global Solidarity
Global citizens foster a sense of
solidarity and interconnectedness with
people from different cultures and
backgrounds, working together to
address global challenges and
promote common well-being.
5. Peaceful Coexistence
Global citizens actively promote peace,
resolve conflicts peacefully, and reject
violence and aggression in all situations.
8. Human Rights
Global citizens advocate for the
protection and promotion of
universal human rights, ensuring that
all individuals are treated with
dignity, equality, and freedom.
7. Ethical Consumption
Global citizens make conscious choices
about their consumption patterns,
supporting fair trade, sustainable
practices, and responsible business
behavior.
10.Responsible Global Engagement
Global citizens engage responsibly in the global
community, respecting the laws and customs of
other nations, and contributing positively to the
well-being of humanity and the planet.
9. Intercultural Understanding
Global citizens seek to understand and
appreciate different cultures,
promoting dialogue, empathy, and
mutual respect among diverse
communities.
