How Baz Luhrmann s Interpretation of the Prologue Engages the Audience s Attention and Makes
them Want to Watch the Rest of the Film How is it that after watching the opening sequence to
Baz Luhrmann s Romeo and Juliet film (properly titled William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet)
about twenty times, the exhilarating thrill I experience from it still has not faded out? To grab the
attention of the viewers and keep their eyes glued to the screen as the movie starts, the director
uses a variety of special techniques, also to make it clear to the audience that this film is a far cry
from the original dullness associated with Shakespeare play recreations. Firstly, the range of music;

This is the thought which Baz Luhrmann wants to put into the audiences mind for their first
impression of not so fair Verona; so after the news report is told, the camera whizzes into the
screen behind the news reader which displays a blown up petrol station, burning away as chaos
fills the air. The serenade of blasting classic opera music, which is played while the images of
the shocking city are presented, makes the seriousness and dramatic quality. The rapid montage
of imagery adds to the rush of adrenaline that is felt when you watch this scene. A police
helicopter is shown hovering unsteadily in the air. Moreover, as if it is being shot from the
helicopter, bird s eye view shots are taken with speed shots many long shots zooming into close
ups as the panoramic view of the city is previewed. It is as if Verona is being shaken by the
crime when the noisy helicopter makes the camera focus shaky. The fast editing which shows us
police cars, people being chased and people being injured makes the upbeat anxiety more
effective. Another aspect of the opening, which I found effective, is the voice over. Made to seem
God like, it echoes the story in brief, in a somewhat worried and disappointed tone of voice.
Luhrmann indicates the ongoing vendetta by showing the close up pictures of the families on

Reflection Paper On Rock Of Ages
On 21 July 2017, I attended the Rock of Ages jukebox musical, which incorporated popular 1980
s rock music with the love story of an upcoming rock star and a hopeful actress. Apart from the
cast, dancers and ensemble, there was Ben Walley on keyboard, Phil Simpson on electric guitar,
Greg Fryhling on bass guitar, and Ben Chambers on percussion. The performance took place at
the CBC outdoor Diane Hoch Amphitheatre, which was set up to look like the Bourbon Room
in Las Angeles in the 1980 s. The walls were made of brick, with signs saying, Hollywood BLVD
and live nudes, with a sign saying girls, with an arrow pointing to a door. The audience dressed
casual, however, there were some who dressed up like the 1980 s. The performers, however,
were dressed like rock stars and waitresses, acting out the 1980 s. The performance was laid
back, the performers made jokes and the audience would laugh, and at the end of a scene the
audience would clap. The musical consisted of 2 acts, and in the following paragraphs I will
explain how the musicand the performance made me feel, the good and the bad.
The performance began with a beautiful introduction, followed by the beginning of the song
Come On Feel The Noize, by Quiet Riot. During the introduction, the music made me feel free
and alive. I could picture myself drinking a cold beer with a guitar in my lap. Immediately
following the beginning of the song Noize was the song Just Like Paradise, by David Lee Roth,
which flowed

HIPAA VIALATION
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 made it illegal to gain
access to personal medical information for any reasons other than health care delivery, operations,
and reimbursements (Shi ump; Singh, 2008, p. 166). HIPAA legislation mandated strict controls on
the transfer of personally identifiable health data between two entities, provisions for disclosure of
protected information, and criminal penalties for violation (Clayton 2001). HIPAA also has privacy
requirements that govern disclosure of patient protected health information (PHI) placed in the
medical record by physicians, nurses, and other health care providers (Buck, 2011). Always

Single payer health plan places the financing with one entity usually the government. One major
advantage of this system is that all Americans and lawful residents would be entitled to benefits
regardless of individual or family income (Shi ump; Singh, 2008, p. 572). Private insurance
plans and government entitlement programs (Medicaid, Medicare, Tricare, and the Federal
Employee Health Benefits Program) would no longer be necessary under a single payer system,
although the for some private insurance will remain for those desiring coverage beyond what a
basic government plan might offer (Shi ump; Singh, 2008, p. 572). Health care providers would
be reimbursed on a fee for service scale (Shi ump; Singh, 2008, p. 572). Hospitals, nursing
homes, and other institutional facilities would be given an annual prospective budget to provide
all required care (Shi ump; Singh, 2008, p. 572). Single payer system has to offer two things that
are important are having coverage for all individuals in the United States and the money spent on
health care was budgeted. There is other ways that have been tried or discussed and they would be
piecemeal, managed competition, play or pay, and employee mandate, although those do not
necessarily provide coverage to all individuals. There are down sides to a universal plan that would
be change,

Bourdieu Cultural Capital Essay
Citizenship confers on an individual an ability to participate in democracy such as decision
making and inclusion in policy making processes, (Michels, 2011). Citizenship gives one
participatory power; in the decision making process of their country of origin, in the same way
citizenship can be a form of capital to an individual. Citizenship constitutes a strategically
constructed form of capital which manifests in formal (legal and institutional) and informal
(practiced and cultural) forms (Bauder H., 2008:315). People who possess a certain form of
capital are able to distinguish themselves from others who lack that form of capital (Bauder,
2008:318). Such distinctions can increase gaps in social classorders and increase feelings of relative
deprivation between migrant families and non migrant families (de Haas, 2010).Capital forms the

Bourdieu s concept of cultural capital relates to the symbolic characteristics namely skills, tastes
and preferences, mannerisms, material goods, credentials etc. that a person gains by virtue of
his or her membership of a particular social class. Bourdieu emphasizes on the importance of
cultural capital as a major source of social inequality. Rooted in the Bourdieu concept of cultural
capital is the aspect of social environment which he called the habitus . According to him, one s
habitus will allow or not allow him or her to progress in life (Bourdieu, 1986). As regards this
concept of habitus, it can be said that one s social identity/nationality may or may not offer him or
her opportunities in life. The concept of habitus can be likened to the concept of social capital

What Is The 1988 Reform Act To Present
There s little disbelief that education, as a social institution, has an important role to play in our
society (Moore, Aiken, Chapman, 2005). This essay will look further into the influences of social,
economic and political changes in Britain s education over the last 30 years. The essay will mainly
review and focus on the eras between the 1988 reform Act to present. This essay will explore further
into the influences of the national curriculum, how conservatives, labour and the coalition have
affected social and economic environments in educationand comparisons between the conservatives
and labour. It will also discuss, philosophers Dewey and Freire reviewing how both of their
methods of pedagogy has influenced teachers methods and approaches to teaching.
Successive conservatives in the 1980s increased the pace of improvement and reform and
introduced Market Mechanisms into the education system, in aim to force schools to increase their
standards of teaching (Ross Gibson, 2007). The real uprising in Britain s education legislation came
in 1988 when the education Reform Act was introduced, this Act is widely known to be the most
important since the 1944 Butlers Act (Meredith, 1989). The Act introduced the National
curriculum, so far being the most important provision, presenting new outcomes for secondary and
primary education. The National Curriculum sets out attainment targets, knowledge, skills and

The Effects of Alcohol and Caffeine on the Heartbeat Rate in Daphnia Magnus
Abstract
The projects purpose was to determine the effects of alcohol and caffeine on the heartbeat rate in
Daphnia Magnus. Our hypothesis is alcohol causes a decrease in heart rate, whereas caffeine causes
an accelerated heart rate, predicting that the more caffeine we give the daphnia the faster it
heartbeat rate will become and the heartbeat rate will decrease as we give the Daphnia alcohol.
After doing the experiment we found that the more caffeine we added to the Daphnia Magna the
faster its heartbeat rate became. We also found that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We Placed 1 drop of a 1% caffeine solution on the Daphnia. After waiting for a few seconds we
began to count the heart beats and recorded the results on our data sheet.
Next we removed the excess solution from the Daphnia and flushed it with aquarium water. Using
the same procedure we monitored the effects of 1 1/2% and 2.0% caffeine solutions and recorded
our results and placed the Daphnia in the recovery tank. After completing the caffeine series, we
obtained a the second set of drugs. This time instead of using caffeine we used varied
concentrations of alcohol 2%, 4% and 6% using the same method as the caffeine procedure. Again
recording our results and placing the Daphnia in the recovery tank when finished.
Results
The original purpose of this experiment was to determine how alcohol and caffeine
effected the heartbeat rate of a Daphnia. The results of the experiment were that the
higher percentage caffeine and alcohol placed onto the Daphnia the higher the heart rate.

Conclusion
After completing the experiment we found that when we gave the Daphnia caffeine the heartbeat
rate did show an increase. However, we also found that alcohol also increased the number of times
the heart beat. Even though we performed all of the experiments very carefully, we cannot be
certain that the effect we saw was due to the drugs. Perhaps the change in heartbeat rate is caused by

Defining Characteristics Of The 12 Step Approach
Introduction A brief overview of the defining characteristics of the 12 step approach (Baldwin et
al., 2011, Bateson, 1971, Jellinek, 1960, Lacan and Miller, 1998, Raikhel and Garriott, 2013,
Schenker, 2009, University of Chester, 2016, Wilcox, 1998) with particular focus on its
definition (NCCMH, 2008) and UK based studies (Best et al., 2001, Day et al., 2005, Harris et
al., 2003) recognising the translatability of the 12 steps relating to higher power and personal
responsibility (Appendix 1, p.11) create tensions for client/patient engagement (Best et al.,
2001, Harris et al., 2003) and staff/professional referral (Day et al., 2005). A commissioned
report by National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH, 2008) by National
Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and a recent 8 year review of the
aforementioned (NICE, 2016) inform current NICE guidelines including referrals to 12 step
(NICE, 2007). The current evidence base (NCCMH, 2008) uses a systematic review of the
literature (McAuliffe, 1990, Etheridge et al., 1999, Moos et al., 1999, Fiorentine and Hillhouse,
2000, Toumbourou et al., 2002, Weiss et al., 2005, Timko et al., 2006). An 8 year review of the
evidence (NICE, 2016) finds no new evidence to warrant evolving the existing guideline, providing
supporting evidence and emerging evidence to inform the current guidelines (Johnson et al., 2006,
Kelly et al., 2010, Laudet et al., 2006, McKellar et al., 2009, Timko and DeBenedetti, 2007). A

For Treasury division, Due Bills was huge profit generating product, managers/traders in that
division were keen on increasing Due Bill sales volume and there by profits. Whereas for Metro
division it was yet another product under many business/individual deposits they are dealing with.
Considering costs associated and amount of work involved with Due Bill, it was not critical to
meet their goals.
To resolve this problem, Firstly I will analyze gaps in system in terms of cost allocation, revenue
sharing , transfer price and create a strategy to address gaps, motivate teams across divisions to
work towards company objectives.
2) What is the transfer price from metro branches to the treasury and vice versa?
Transfer pricing necessarily results from the exchanges of goods and services among the
decentralized units of company. a) Transfer prices are the monetary values assigned to these
exchanges are transfers. b) Fundamentally, all cost allocation is a form of transfer pricing. *
Minimum Transfer price = Outlay cost + opportunity cost to the company as a whole
As per the exhibit 4:
Assuming opportunity cost is zero as exchange of services was between the divisions of same
company. a) As per exhibit 4, there was no cost allocation between Treasury and Metro divisions,
hence transfer price will be:
Treasury to Metro was $0
Metro to treasury was $0 b) Considering

Object To Me Research Paper
If someone was going to ask me how I would represent myself with four objects, I would
probably have to take a day or two to think about it. Since I ve already done that, I am now going
to explain these four items to you. The things I chose, with difficulty, were a picture of me with
three of my brothers, a sketchbook I ve been looking for for a while, my phone (a most prized
possession) and a mason jar filled with pretty trinkets. I think these would be the objects that
would best describe me. First, I have a picture of me with three of my brothers at the zoo in
Indianapolis. That is one of the few pictures where we are all smiling and posing. Normally, we re
super chaotic. We play around and yell and argue a lot. But somehow we all get along... Show more

It was very important to me, because some of my favorite drawings are in that book. When I
found it a while ago, I was ecstatic. Drawing brings out an artistic side in me that doesn t
normally surface. It also gives me an outlet to channel my ideas. I think creativity has given me a
chance to express myself and is a way to find who I am. The next thing I chose that represents me
is my phone. It is my connection to my friends and family and a world outside of where I am. It
has several features that were designed to help people with everyday life. My phone is one of
the few things that manage to stay consistent around me. It is very helpful to have around. A lot
of children are getting phones at younger and younger ages. I only got mine this year, so that
makes me more careful and sensible about it. The last thing that I selected to portray me is a jar
full of pretty oddities and ornaments. I believe this shows one of the most important things about
me. In other words, it indicates my organization and thought process, which seems practically
nonexistent to most people, but I find a lot of method to it. My room is usually like that jar on
steroids. It makes no sense to whoever stumbles upon it by accident, but it is easy to unravel when
you see it all the time. I feel like this represents the basics of me, as I

Endangered Animals
The world is facing many serious issues in this day and time. One of the major one is endangered
species. These organisms are living on the edge of extinction. There are many things that threaten
these species like loss of habitat, lack of food, hunting and many more. The victim of this
horrendous crime against living organisms is the fastest running mammal called Cheetah,
scientifically known as Acinonyx jubatus .
Cheetahs are true carnivores which means they depend on meat for survival. They use high speed
to easily hunt their prey. Primary diet of cheetah consists of springbok, ostriches, impala, deer,
gazelles, warthogs, birds, hares, young zebras etc. These animals tend to target younglings because
of the greater rate of success. And while hunting these species like to stalk their prey for 10 50m
and then start sprinting towards it. During this time frame, their bodies are under immense strain
and pressure as a result their body temperature rises to its highest.
These mammals live in the dry grasslands of sub Saharan Africa, and in eastern and southern parks.
Some can also be found in southern Algeria, northern Niger and Iran. Today Namibia has the
largest population of cheetahs living in Africa. It is very hard to believe that these species use to
roam around nearly all of Africa and much of Asia, but now they are driven out of 91% of its
historic range. These animals are nearly extinct in Asia, only around 50 of these individual are

Nursing Nurse And Skills On The Management Of Wound
Description
During the first week of our new nurses in a surgical ward, I was supervising one of the
supernumerary nurses. We were looking after a thirty nine year old woman, Ms LC, who had
undergone a laparoscopic peritonectomy. We had to start her on a negative pressure wound therapy
dressing or NPWT; as suggested by wound clinical nurse consultant and the doctors during their
ward round, since this would allow the fast healing of her wound.
I showed the supernumerary nurse the proper way of preparing an NPWT using a non touch
sterile technique, started by slowly cleaning the surrounding skin prior to the application of the
pressure dressing. Since it was the first time of the preceptee to perform a pressure dressing, I
have provided my preceptee the principles of wound management so that it will reinforce the
knowledge of the supervised nurse and skills on the management of wound using NPWT. I also
provided the preceptee the protocols and the wound management chart to take note of the type of
solutions to be used in managing a surgical wound. We also documented in the progress notes what
we have performed, and informed the nurse in charge on the frequency of dressing change in a
week.
Feelings
During the procedure it gave me an opportunity to share my knowledge about the proper
management of a surgical wound. I felt relieved knowing that I was able to develop the skills of
my preceptee in the aspect of wound care and knowing that the patient was also involved in the

Annotated Bibliography on Ghandi Social Justice and Religion Attenborough, Richard, director.
Gandhi. Columbia Pictures, 1982. Gandhi is a biopic produced by Richard Attenborough
whose lifelong dream was to make the story of the national independence leader s life into a
movie. The movie starts with Mohandas K. Gandhi, played by actor Ben Kingsley, rejecting all
material possessions in pursuit of India s independence. The storyline plays out to highlight
important aspect of Gandhi s life and ends with his assassination, where he utters the famous
lines Oh god. Critics claim the movie is over exaggerated, however Attenborough does a fine job
of bringing a visual of Gandhi s life into Western eyes. In addition, what could be a bad thing
ends up being a good thing for the layman who watches this movie. Attenborough oversimplifies
Gandhi s perspectives and ideas on social justice and religion, which leads to a very simple
explanation of Gandhi s philosophy. Friedman, Joseph S. (2008) Mahatma Gandhi s Vision for the

Cultural Dislocation and the Sense of Loss: A Study of Ashima s Predicament in The Namesake
Abstract
Due to increasing urbanization, dislocation and migration, a person s identity is caught up in many
contradictions. While trying to locate oneself in between their root and their new existence, the
sense of belonging to a particular place often gets blurred. Modern and postmodern fiction bears a
true reflection of this universal human condition in the present world. With the diasporic writers
these issues find the most powerful, striking and convincing expression. Narrating the story of a

She chronicles dislocation and its resulting sense of loss in a strikingly powerful manner. She
blends the two cultures and creates inner turmoil for many of her characters who struggle to
balance the Western and Indian influence. To sum up, one must acknowledge that the story
beautifully portrays the postmodern predicament in the multicultural juncture. Ashima s sense of
loss and trauma, the vacuum in her heart, speaks of the universal fate of an immigrant life. Though
not easily acceptable, this painful experience is an inextricable part in expatriate life.

Importance Of Personal Goals In Life
Since I was young, I knew exactly what I wanted to do in life, to be successful and happy. My
whole life, I have been surrounded by prosperous family members and family friends. Growing
up around these people, I came to acknowledge that they had a sense of stability and happiness
about them because they got to get up every morning and go to a job they love. However, what I
admired most is their success did not come easy, they worked hard to become the respected
people they are today. This assisted me in adapting three strong core values: personal growth,
entrepreneurship, and respect. Although I grew up with a successful family, I learned that
success does not come easy. Nowadays, people are led to believe they do not have to exert any
effort to become successful, and they could just lean on their family s prosperity. My family was
raised in the middle to upper class, but they were all parented to know they had to earn it
themselves and that they had to work for what they want; they couldn t turn to their family for
assistance. Therefore, I was also raised with this view. This developed my value of personal growth.
One of my goals in life is to earn my Doctor of Veterinary Medicineand my Master of Business
Administration. I strive to achieve these, knowing that the process will be challenging. After
graduating veterinary school with my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, I plan to become a vet. After
approximately 10 years, I plan to go to Business school and earn my Master

Artigues. She confronts a moral dilemma when her husband leaves for years and is replaced by an
imposter, challenging Bertrande s allegiance to her faith. Bertrande s faith exceeded personal
desires, illustrating religion s intense role in society. Agriculture was another significant force. The
success of the Guerre family was measured by the productivity of their farmland. In the same way,
the French economy was subordinate to agriculture. The Wife of Martin Guerre provides a glimpse

The European economy was earlier organized under the feudal system, which depended upon
agriculture. The Hundred Years War had a negative effect on the French farmlands, which were
ravaged and ruined. Conversely, the Black Death decreased Europe s immense population so that
agriculture did not have to support as many people. The high mortality rate of the Black Death
produced a fall in production, shortages of good, and a general rise in prices (McKay 330). A
shortage of laborers resulted in the economy relying more on available workers, who could
demand and expect higher working standards and conditions (Mackay). In the Wife of Martin
Guerre, Artigues isolation, prevented the farmland from being harmed by these religious wars:
Artigues enjoyed its isolation...and actual gold accumulated in the coffers of its more prosperous
families like the Guerre family (Lewis 12). Families in Artigues were unique because unlike the
typical feudal system, they did not work under a dominant noble, so they prospered from their own
farms. The Guerre family s lives and income revolved around their farm. In Artigues, the feudal
system permeated deeper into the family units itself, with the heads of families, like Monsieur
Guerre, maintaining control over the household and farm. The economy in France required a large
interdependency among the farm workers and

My Views On Religion In Euripide s Bakkhai
I was born into a Hindu family in India. Religion has always been a big part of my life growing up,
following various religious traditions and celebrating festivals. However, I do not believe that my
partially religious upbringing has had an affect on me in the sense that I am a religious person
today. I was never forced to abide by any rituals or practices and was always encouraged to explore
and learn about different religions all over the world. Therefore, my views on religion as a whole
are extremely open ended and are always open to deviate. Euripide s Bakkhai, described as arguably
the darkest and most ferocious tragedy ever written does not change my sense of religion,
however opens a new window for me to view religion in terms of

Sustainable Economic Growth And The Success Of A Country
Abstract
Last few decades we have seen a changing notion of what constitutes a successful nation.
According to the old school approach, sustainable economic growth is primarily seen as the best
way to make a successful country . There are a few questions that arise as to what factors
contribute to the success of a country. Is sustainable economic growth the best way to get there?
A country comprises of its citizens and the two most important components contributing to the
success of a country are the health and happiness of its citizens. Wealth becomes an important
aspect only in a manner where it encourages greater well being of the citizens.
Another aspect that we need to consider is that of sustainable well being. The term means
maintaining a balance between environment sustainability and well being. Thus, countries must
provide well being within environmental limits.
Economic growth as measured by gross domestic product doesn t really tell us much about citizens
general well being. Here we will be discussing about the change in approach towards what we
consider a successful nation today.

Essay Alternative Fuel
Abstract
The feasibility of adding AFVs (alternative fuel vehicles) to the Lotus Rental Car fleet is examined
in the attached research. The advantages and disadvantages of AFVs were analyzed. In addition, the
environmental effect of AFV use on future generations is also discussed. By comparing the overall
information and data of AFVs vs. petroleum fueled vehicles, and researching how other fleets have
successfully incorporated AFVs, the result is conclusive evidence that the addition of AFVs to the
Lotus fleet is a viable course of action for the future of Lotus.

Using alternative fuels helps reduce our nation s dependence on imported oil and improves air
quality. The Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPAct) defines alternative fuels as electricity, ethanol,
natural gas, propane, methanol, hydrogen, and biodiesel (U.S. Department of Energy, What is the
Energy Policy Act of 1992, para. 2).
One of the main issues that requires examination is to find out more details regarding the many
different types of alternative fuels. With that thought in mind, the next step in our research process
was to weigh the pros and cons of the various alternative fuel types that would be feasible for the
Lotus Company to consider.
Since we are dealing with a rental fleet, both the cost of implementing a certain type of alternative
fuel vehicle as well as the availability of refueling stations must be considered when comparing the
viability of the different fuel types. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the availability of
refueling stations is an issue for vehicles that run on propane and natural gas (U.S. Department of
Energy, Alternative Fuels, para.8). With the number of refueling stations being inadequate for
propane and natural gas, these two alternative fuels can be ruled out as an option for the Lotus fleet
because the Lotus customers are not going to rent vehicles if refueling stations are not readily
available. In addition, the problems with using natural gas vehicles are going to

The restaurant s dress code requires men to wear jackets and ties at dinner. The first school dress

The major reason why dressing in proper business attire is important for every business
professional is because it presents a visual image and sends a message that the employees are
professional. The importance of a dress code for professionalism varies somewhat by industry. A
formal or white tie dress code typically means tailcoats for men and full length evening dresses for
women. Business Dress codes typically means not wearing neckties or suits, but wearing instead
collared shirts, and more country trousers. A dress code for a school circumstance is important to
have because it helps keep students safe, but the having a dress code in school really targets girls a
lot more then boys. According to CNN
Families are concerned that dress code enforcement tends to result in body shaming.
Even though we have a dress code, most people don t follow it. Most schools are onto people

Say Yes To The Dress Attribution Theory

visible. When the third bride in this episode comes into Kleinfeld for a fitting, her grandmother

gives an explanation of her grandmother s actions by saying it is due to her grandmother s age

Characteristics Of Catholicism And Christianity
Christianity is the most widely followed religion among the world s population with approximately
2.3 billion followers, half of which are Roman Catholics (Liu). As a result of this widespread
popularity, there is a unique and specific subculture that distinguishes this religion from others. As a
lifelong member of Catholicism myself, I wanted to delve further into the cultural aspect of this
religion and the unambiguous traits. Culture is defined by the shared norms, beliefs, and values
within a group. Catholicism is no exception and is an established subculture with specific
characteristics, material culture, hierarchical organization and other aspects that make it very
distinctive. A subculture is ...defined as the groups united by sets of concepts, values, symbols, and
shared meaning specific to the members of that group (Conley p.85). Catholicism corresponds with
this definition because the religion and its members are united by similar cultural characteristics
including both material and non material culture. The followers of this religion are unified by these
cultural characteristics that are specific to Catholicism. The non material cultural characteristics
that define Catholicism as a subculture are the shared values between members. In general,
individuals of Catholic faith are family oriented. Familial values are of the utmost importance in the
Catholic faith whether it be faithfulness through marriage or through socializing children to have
similar values. In

The most fundamental impact of the existence of the Royal Society on the trajectory of scientific

Royal Society deeply impacted both the creation and the dissemination of Isaac Newton s ideas.
Indeed, before the Principia, Newton was reluctant to publish his mathematical or scientific
works, opting instead to perfect and disseminate his discoveries by corresponding with other
intellectuals. It was the Royal Society s creation of a community of intellectuals that allowed for
this process to occur: most of Newton s correspondents were either direct employees or elected
Fellows of the Royal Society, such as Henry Oldenburg, Edmond Halley, John Craig, John Collins,
and others. Further, even when unpublished, many of Newton s manuscripts were deposited at the
library Royal Society in London for others to read and learn from. This network of individuals in a
focused scientific community would prove an invaluable resource for Newton in

Education Reform For The United States
Education in America started with the Pilgrims in the early 1600 s. The first public school was
opened in 1635 in Boston Massachusetts. In 1642, Massachusetts started an education reform that
stated Any child not properly educated would apprentice to a trade . This education reform was
created because they believed it was important for children and citizens to be able to read the laws
of the land. This was the first law that required children to be education. If they were not properly
educated they would be moved from their home to a better fit environment where they would be
able to learn. Virginia then followed with a similar law in 1646. In 1647 Massachusetts founded
an act called Old Deluder Satan Act . This act required towns of more than fifty families to hire a
teacher for reading and writing. Towns of more than a hundred families had to establish a grammar
schoolwhich served as college preparation. Dame schools taught reading and writing to females
because this was all they were expected to learn so that they would not have the same intellect as
men. Their classes were held in the teacher s kitchen who continued her chores while the students
did their lessons. At the beginning of the 20th century, parents and public schools began demanding
more practical and useful curriculums. Growing up with my mom as a teacher I know how much
time they spend working and helping their students learn and achieve so many things and how little
they receive back in

Canada s Residential Schools On Aboriginal Children
Aboriginal children cannot forget what happened to them in the past. In 1870s, above 150 000
aboriginal children took from their parents to attend Canada s Indian Residential Schools until
1970s (CBC News, 2010, p 49). The most goals for those schools learned aboriginal children the
culture of European people (CBC News, 2010, p 49). Unfortunately, aboriginal parents have not
choice even if they want to send their children to schools or not (CBC News, 2010, p 49).
According to CBC News if aboriginal children tried to breakout from schools and coming again
to their families, they will send back to their schools by Indian agents (2010, p 49). Moreover,
there are negative aspects of Canada s Residential Schools on aboriginal children, such as they
beaten and physically abused if they speak their native language, do not pay attention in class, or
there is no reason (CBC News, 2010, p 50). As a result, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
(TRC) began in 2009, to gather information about what happened to aboriginal children on Canada
s Indian Residential Schools and share their stories with all Canadians (CBC News,2010, p 46). The
TRC done enough for the survivors of the aboriginal children in Canada s Residential Schools:
collect a historical record, financial compensation, apology, the missing children, and
recommendation. First, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission directive to gather historical
record that helps future generation to

Theories Of Human Nature By Karl Marx And Thomas Hobbes Essay
In both theories of human nature by Karl Marx and Thomas Hobbes respectfully, each provide their
own perspective on the fundamental point of human nature. Marx makes the argument that that
humans are inherently cooperative and the capitalist system creates a state of nature where humans
are competitive. In opposition to Marx argument, Hobbes may say that humans are inherently
competitive and the social contract is what makes humans cooperate within the capitalist system. In
response, Marx might say that the social contract is redundant because the social contract has no
effect on the competition that resembles the state of nature within the capitalist system.
The philosophy of Karl Marx begins with the belief that humans are inherently cooperative with
common characteristics and shared ends. To human beings, life is considered an object and
therefore, humans make their life activity itself the object of his will and of his consciousness
(Tucker 76). In other words, humans are able to think, imagine, and produce even when he is free
from physical need and only truly produces in freedom therefrom (p. 76). It exemplifies that idea
that humans not only have the capability to create things for survival but express themselves in
what they produce, within the standards of the human race or universally. When capitalist wage
labor enters the picture, it forces these shared ends and the freedom of expression in human
production to cease, causing a rise of competitiveness among

The Experience Of An Indian Citizen
As we boarded the plane to India, my father said, Boys, I planned this trip for one specific reason.
When we return home, both of you are going to be different. You just wait. I was not sure what
to expect from this trip, but I did know that my dad was not joking. Somehow he was going to do
something the make this trip a memorable one. The second we landed, I knew how this trip was
going to be different; instead of treating us like tourists, he set everything up so we would
experience Indiafrom the perspective of an Indian citizen.
As a child, my family and I would travel into Philadelphia quite often. We would go to out to
dinner and go sightseeing. I would run up the art museum stairs like Rocky, just not nearly as
fast. The majestic building was created by large stone slabs and magnificently large pillars. We
would sit in the blistering heat of the sun watching the rowers continuously pound away at the
water rowing against the tide, preparing for their big race. There were always beggars,
constantly bombarding you, asking for money. My parents always taught me to never offer less
fortunate people money, but instead, offer them food or a drink. Most of the time when you offer
the beggars money, they will take it to buy drugs or alcohol, or they could pretend to be poor and
pocket the money. I carried these same experiences over to India with me. But India is much
different than America. You cannot walk a foot without seeing a beggar on the side of the road.

The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight In Heaven Analysis
In the story The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven by Sherman Alexie, points out the
hardships of being a Native American back in the 20th century. These hardships were racism,
alcoholism, poverty and isolation. The story takes place in the reservation and it is about a
young Native American whom struggles in society because of his skin color, family s
addictions and fights. The narrator moves to Seattle with his white girlfriend who he seems to
have an odd relationship because they are constantly fighting. He becomes an alcoholic and
moves back to the reservation after a break up with his girlfriend. The story begins with the
narrator who enters a 7 11 store at three in the morning to be exact. The cashier looks at him in a
frightened way as if he was a criminal and becomes aware of every action that he does in the
store. Of course, this is something that still goes on today, specially at 7 11 stores and I once
experienced it. The cashier acted in a racist manner because he judges the guy due to his dark
skin color and thought he was a robber. Although the narrator did understand the reason why the
cashier behaved that way as he once worked in a 7 11 store and was robbed. The narrator started
fooling around with the cashier by making him more frightened, but the cashier noticed that he
wasn t a bad guy and offered him the Creamsicle for free. The narrator moves to Seattle and lives
with his white girlfriend who he is constantly fighting all the time. He breaks

How Baz Luhrmann s Interpretation of the Prologue Engages the Audience s Attention and Makes them Want to Watch the Rest of the Film How is it that after watching the opening sequence to Baz Luhrmann s Romeo and Juliet film (properly titled William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet) about twenty times, the exhilarating thrill I experience from it still has not faded out? To grab the attention of the viewers and keep their eyes glued to the screen as the movie starts, the director uses a variety of special techniques, also to make it clear to the audience that this film is a far cry from the original dullness associated with Shakespeare play recreations. Firstly, the range of music; the booming... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the thought which Baz Luhrmann wants to put into the audiences mind for their first impression of not so fair Verona; so after the news report is told, the camera whizzes into the screen behind the news reader which displays a blown up petrol station, burning away as chaos fills the air. The serenade of blasting classic opera music, which is played while the images of the shocking city are presented, makes the seriousness and dramatic quality. The rapid montage of imagery adds to the rush of adrenaline that is felt when you watch this scene. A police helicopter is shown hovering unsteadily in the air. Moreover, as if it is being shot from the helicopter, bird s eye view shots are taken with speed shots many long shots zooming into close ups as the panoramic view of the city is previewed. It is as if Verona is being shaken by the crime when the noisy helicopter makes the camera focus shaky. The fast editing which shows us police cars, people being chased and people being injured makes the upbeat anxiety more effective. Another aspect of the opening, which I found effective, is the voice over. Made to seem God like, it echoes the story in brief, in a somewhat worried and disappointed tone of voice. Reflection Paper On Rock Of Ages On 21 July 2017, I attended the Rock of Ages jukebox musical, which incorporated popular 1980 s rock music with the love story of an upcoming rock star and a hopeful actress. Apart from the cast, dancers and ensemble, there was Ben Walley on keyboard, Phil Simpson on electric guitar, Greg Fryhling on bass guitar, and Ben Chambers on percussion. The performance took place at the CBC outdoor Diane Hoch Amphitheatre, which was set up to look like the Bourbon Room in Las Angeles in the 1980 s. The walls were made of brick, with signs saying, Hollywood BLVD and live nudes, with a sign saying girls, with an arrow pointing to a door. The audience dressed casual, however, there were some who dressed up like the 1980 s. The performers, however, were dressed like rock stars and waitresses, acting out the 1980 s. The performance was laid back, the performers made jokes and the audience would laugh, and at the end of a scene the audience would clap. The musical consisted of 2 acts, and in the following paragraphs I will explain how the musicand the performance made me feel, the good and the bad. The performance began with a beautiful introduction, followed by the beginning of the song Come On Feel The Noize, by Quiet Riot. During the introduction, the music made me feel free and alive. I could picture myself drinking a cold beer with a guitar in my lap. Immediately following the beginning of the song Noize was the song Just Like Paradise, by David Lee Roth, which flowed ... Citizenship gives one participatory power; in the decision making process of their country of origin, in the same way citizenship can be a form of capital to an individual. Citizenship constitutes a strategically constructed form of capital which manifests in formal (legal and institutional) and informal (practiced and cultural) forms (Bauder H., 2008:315). People who possess a certain form of capital are able to distinguish themselves from others who lack that form of capital (Bauder, 2008:318). Defining Characteristics Of The 12 Step Approach Introduction A brief overview of the defining characteristics of the 12 step approach (Baldwin et al., 2011, Bateson, 1971, Jellinek, 1960, Lacan and Miller, 1998, Raikhel and Garriott, 2013, Schenker, 2009, University of Chester, 2016, Wilcox, 1998) with particular focus on its definition (NCCMH, 2008) and UK based studies (Best et al., 2001, Day et al., 2005, Harris et al., 2003) recognising the translatability of the 12 steps relating to higher power and personal responsibility (Appendix 1, p.11) create tensions for client/patient engagement (Best et al., 2001, Harris et al., 2003) and staff/professional referral (Day et al., 2005). A commissioned report by National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH, 2008) by National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and a recent 8 year review of the aforementioned (NICE, 2016) inform current NICE guidelines including referrals to 12 step (NICE, 2007). There are many things that threaten these species like loss of habitat, lack of food, hunting and many more. The victim of this horrendous crime against living organisms is the fastest running mammal called Cheetah, scientifically known as Acinonyx jubatus . Cheetahs are true carnivores which means they depend on meat for survival. They use high speed to easily hunt their prey. Primary diet of cheetah consists of springbok, ostriches, impala, deer, gazelles, warthogs, birds, hares, young zebras etc. These animals tend to target younglings because of the greater rate of success. And while hunting these species like to stalk their prey for 10 50m and then start sprinting towards it. During this time frame, their bodies are under immense strain and pressure as a result their body temperature rises to its highest. These mammals live in the dry grasslands of sub Saharan Africa, and in eastern and southern parks. Some can also be found in southern Algeria, northern Niger and Iran. Today Namibia has the largest population of cheetahs living in Africa. This assisted me in adapting three strong core values: personal growth, entrepreneurship, and respect. Although I grew up with a successful family, I learned that success does not come easy. In The Wife of Martin Guerre by Janet Lewis, Bertrande is married into a secure farming family of Artigues. She confronts a moral dilemma when her husband leaves for years and is replaced by an imposter, challenging Bertrande s allegiance to her faith. Bertrande s faith exceeded personal desires, illustrating religion s intense role in society. Agriculture was another significant force. The success of the Guerre family was measured by the productivity of their farmland. In the same way, the French economy was subordinate to agriculture. The Wife of Martin Guerre provides a glimpse into mid 16th century French ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The European economy was earlier organized under the feudal system, which depended upon agriculture. The Hundred Years War had a negative effect on the French farmlands, which were ravaged and ruined. Conversely, the Black Death decreased Europe s immense population so that agriculture did not have to support as many people. The high mortality rate of the Black Death produced a fall in production, shortages of good, and a general rise in prices (McKay 330). A shortage of laborers resulted in the economy relying more on available workers, who could demand and expect higher working standards and conditions (Mackay). In the Wife of Martin Guerre, Artigues isolation, prevented the farmland from being harmed by these religious wars: Artigues enjoyed its isolation...and actual gold accumulated in the coffers of its more prosperous families like the Guerre family (Lewis 12). Families in Artigues were unique because unlike the typical feudal system, they did not work under a dominant noble, so they prospered from their own farms. The Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPAct) defines alternative fuels as electricity, ethanol, natural gas, propane, methanol, hydrogen, and biodiesel (U.S. Department of Energy, What is the Energy Policy Act of 1992, para. 2). One of the main issues that requires examination is to find out more details regarding the many different types of alternative fuels. With that thought in mind, the next step in our research process was to weigh the pros and cons of the various alternative fuel types that would be feasible for the Lotus Company to consider. Since we are dealing with a rental fleet, both the cost of implementing a certain type of alternative fuel vehicle as well as the availability of refueling stations must be considered when comparing the viability of the different fuel types. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the availability of refueling stations is an issue for vehicles that run on propane and natural gas (U.S. Department of Energy, Alternative Fuels, para.8). With the number of refueling stations being inadequate for propane and natural gas, these two alternative fuels can be ruled out as an option for the Lotus fleet because the Lotus customers are not going to rent vehicles if refueling stations are not readily available. • 46. Theories Of Human Nature By Karl Marx And Thomas Hobbes Essay In both theories of human nature by Karl Marx and Thomas Hobbes respectfully, each provide their own perspective on the fundamental point of human nature. Marx makes the argument that that humans are inherently cooperative and the capitalist system creates a state of nature where humans are competitive. In opposition to Marx argument, Hobbes may say that humans are inherently competitive and the social contract is what makes humans cooperate within the capitalist system. In response, Marx might say that the social contract is redundant because the social contract has no effect on the competition that resembles the state of nature within the capitalist system. The philosophy of Karl Marx begins with the belief that humans are inherently cooperative with common characteristics and shared ends. To human beings, life is considered an object and therefore, humans make their life activity itself the object of his will and of his consciousness (Tucker 76). In other words, humans are able to think, imagine, and produce even when he is free from physical need and only truly produces in freedom therefrom (p. 76). It exemplifies that idea that humans not only have the capability to create things for survival but express themselves in what they produce, within the standards of the human race or universally. When capitalist wage labor enters the picture, it forces these shared ends and the freedom of expression in human production to cease, causing a rise of competitiveness among ... • 48. The Experience Of An Indian Citizen As we boarded the plane to India, my father said, Boys, I planned this trip for one specific reason. When we return home, both of you are going to be different. You just wait. I was not sure what to expect from this trip, but I did know that my dad was not joking. Somehow he was going to do something the make this trip a memorable one. The second we landed, I knew how this trip was going to be different; instead of treating us like tourists, he set everything up so we would experience Indiafrom the perspective of an Indian citizen. As a child, my family and I would travel into Philadelphia quite often. We would go to out to dinner and go sightseeing. I would run up the art museum stairs like Rocky, just not nearly as fast. The majestic building was created by large stone slabs and magnificently large pillars. We would sit in the blistering heat of the sun watching the rowers continuously pound away at the water rowing against the tide, preparing for their big race. There were always beggars, constantly bombarding you, asking for money. My parents always taught me to never offer less fortunate people money, but instead, offer them food or a drink. Most of the time when you offer the beggars money, they will take it to buy drugs or alcohol, or they could pretend to be poor and pocket the money. I carried these same experiences over to India with me. But India is much different than America. You cannot walk a foot without seeing a beggar on the side of the road. ... The sun ...
