What is Inertia
movement
sensors?
Inertial sensors for aerial
robotics typically come in
the form of
an Inertial Measurement Unit
(IMU) which consists of
accelerometers, gyroscopes
and sometimes also
magnetometers.
What is
Accelerometer?
An accelerometer is an electromechanical
device used to measure acceleration forces.
Acceleration is the measurement of the
change in velocity, or speed divided by time.
What is
Gyroscopes?
Gyroscopes is a device used for measuring or
maintaining orientation and angular velocity.
The gyroscope, or gyro for short, adds an
additional dimension to the information
supplied by the accelerometer by tracking
rotation or twist.
What is
Magnetometers?
A magnetometer is a device that measures
magnetism—the direction, strength, or
relative change of a magnetic field at a
particular location.
Accelerometer - measures velocity and
Gyroscope - measures rotation and rotational

What is the use of IMU Sensor?
An inertial measurement unit (IMU) is
an electronic device that measures and
reports a body's specific force, angular
rate, and sometimes the orientation of
the body, using a combination of
accelerometers, gyroscopes, and
sometimes magnetometers.
An inertial measurement unit (IMU2) works by
detecting the current rate of acceleration, as
well as changes in rotational attributes.
This data is then fed into a controller, which
calculates the current speed and position, given
a known initial speed and position, by
integrating the accelerations.
Working of
IMU
Axis IMU
IMUs are composed of a 3-axis
accelerometer and a 3-axis gyroscope,
which would be considered a 6-axis IMU.
They can also include an additional 3-
axis magnetometer, which would be
considered a 9-axis IMU.

into Inertial Navigation Systems which
utilize the raw IMU measurements to
