Description of Target Audience
Are you a developer looking to setup Multiple CFML Engines in your Development or Server Environment, and after reading all of the different blogs out there, just want a walk through, to help clear things up, well, this session is for you.
Assumed Knowledge
None required, although basic installation / configuration or a web server and cfml engine would be easier to follow along.
Objective of the Topic
To give the audience all the knowledge and resources they need to be able to go home and install their own multiple cfml engine environment.
This topic will help walk the audience through dos and don'ts, and with a step by step on how to get Apache, Railo and Coldfusion to all play nicely together. There are many blogs out there showing users how to set up one engine, or another, but this session will help clear up the process. We will install Apache and connect to Coldfusion, Railo and a Railo Cluster, and install a small App to help manage the Websites, Apache, and Connectors, to save you diving into the CONF files continuously.
Why am I qualified to Present
I have been programming Coldfusion for over 14 years, and having been Team Lead and responsible for Server Install, Maint and Configuration for the last 13 years at 2 companies, I have been involved with the day to day coding in Coldfusion, but also the one in the firing line if Coldfusion server is not performing as required.
Recently my team and I have undertaken a migration Project of 100+ CFML websites (varying types and age), in which testing multiple CFML engines was required, I setup our Dev Staging and Production servers, as well as our Local Developer environments.
I built a couple of tools to help manage the setup, which I will share with the audience.
What Will the Audience Learn
- Basic Apache Config
- How to Install Coldfusion and extract the Connector
- How to Install Railo (instances) and extract the Connector
- How to Setup and Connect to a Railo Cluster
- How to edit the Apache and Tomcat Conf files to make them easier to maintain
- How to use my small App to Manage the Apache / Tomcat configurations
Performance & Scalability Improvements in PerforcePerforce
Recent releases of Perforce include improvements targeting performance and scalability. The edge/commit server architecture and lockless reads are two such improvements. This presentation will detail the effect of these improvements as measured in concurrency simulations and production deployments. Some of the server internals implemented to achieve these gains in performance and scalability will also be discussed.

Today's high-traffic websites must implement performance-boosting measures that reduce data processing and reduce load on the database, while increasing the speed of content delivery. One such method is the use of a cache to temporarily store whole pages, database recordsets, large objects, and sessions. While many caching mechanisms exist, memcached provides one of the fastest and easiest-to-use caching servers. This talk will cover memcached and the memcache extension for PHP from setting up a memcached server to using it to provide a variety of caching solutions, including the use of memcached as a session data store.
HBase 2.0 is the next stable major release for Apache HBase scheduled for early 2017. It is the biggest and most exciting milestone release from the Apache community after 1.0. HBase-2.0 contains a large number of features that is long time in the development, some of which include rewritten region assignment, perf improvements (RPC, rewritten write pipeline, etc), async clients, C++ client, offheaping memstore and other buffers, Spark integration, shading of dependencies as well as a lot of other fixes and stability improvements. We will go into technical details on some of the most important improvements in the release, as well as what are the implications for the users in terms of API and upgrade paths. Existing users of HBase/Phoenix as well as operators managing HBase clusters will benefit the most where they can learn about the new release and the long list of features. We will also briefly cover earlier 1.x release lines and compatibility and upgrade paths for existing users and conclude by giving an outlook on the next level of initiatives for the project.

"Why use PgBouncer? It’s a lightweight, easy to configure connection pooler and it does one job well. As you’d expect from a talk on connection pooling, we’ll give a brief summary of connection pooling and why it increases efficiency. We’ll look at when not to use connection pooling, and we’ll demonstrate how to configure PgBouncer and how it works. But. Did you know you can also do this? 1. Scaling PgBouncer PgBouncer is single threaded which means a single instance of PgBouncer isn’t going to do you much good on a multi-threaded and/or multi-CPU machine. We’ll show you how to add more PgBouncer instances so you can use more than one thread for easy scaling. 2. Read-write / read only routing Using different pgBouncer databases you can route read-write traffic to the primary database and route read-only traffic to a number of standby databases. 3. Load balancing When we use multiple PgBouncer instances, load balancing comes for free. Load balancing can be directed to different standbys, and weighted according to ratios of load. 4. Silent failover You can perform silent failover during promotion of a new primary (assuming you have a VIP/DNS etc that always points to the primary). 5. And even: DoS prevention and protection from “badly behaved” applications! By using distinct port numbers you can provide database connections which deal with sudden bursts of incoming traffic in very different ways, which can help prevent the database from becoming swamped during high activity periods. You should leave the presentation wondering if there is anything PgBouncer can’t do."

Breaking the Sound Barrier with Persistent Memory HBaseCon
Liqi Yi and Shylaja Kokoori (Intel)
A fully optimized HBase cluster could easily hit the limit of the underlying storage device’s capability, which is beyond the reach of software optimization alone. To get around this constraint, we need a new design that brings data processing and data storage closer together. In this presentation, we will look at how persistent memory will change the way large datasets are stored. We will review the hardware characteristics of 3D XPoint™, a new persistent memory technology with low latency and high capacity. We will also discuss opportunities for further improvement within the HBase framework using persistent memory.
The objective of this article is to describe what to monitor in and around Alfresco in order to have a good understanding of how the applications are performing and to be aware of potential issues.

Use of No-SQL databases in web applications is becoming increasingly common. In part this is because they work well with rapid application development due to their schema-less nature. And partly because they scale well in a cloud-based environment without too much effort.
MongoDB is one of the many No-SQL database technologies available today. It's schema-less nature works very well with rapid application development nature of ColdFusion. Unlike other No-SQL databases, it offers the ability run arbitrary queries against databases without having to first write map-reduce functions. It also has some other interesting features like capped collections with asynchronous write ability.
In this session, Indy takes you through some common use-cases for considering MongoDB with ColdFusion applications, contrasting it with other No-SQL databases like CouchDB. And he shares his experiences of using it with cloud-based ColdFusion applications. The aim of the session is to provide an overview of using MongoDB with ColdFusion so that you have another tool to consider when working on your next web application.

Java MySQL Connector & Connection Pool Features & OptimizationKenny Gryp
This talk will give an overview of the different available Java MySQL connectors (Connector/J, MariaDB Java Connector) and connection pools (Commons-DBCP, C3P0, ...).
One of the things with the default configuration of these solutions is that they are very chatty. This can have a noticeable impact on application performance and database load. I've seen many environments where over 50% of the total amount of queries are caused by such behavior. This behavior will be explained through examples seen on production systems as well as recommendations on optimization will be made.
Load balancing and transparent failover solutions will be described for both MySQL's traditional asynchronous replication and Galera based replication (Percona XtraDB Cluster or MariaDB Galera Cluster).
Increasing Kafka Connect Throughput with Catalin Pop with Catalin Pop | Kafka...HostedbyConfluent
While Apache Kafka® is the central nervous system for streaming data, Kafka Connect is the highway that allows traffic to flow in and out of Kafka without the need to write a producer/consumer. The question that arises here is how do we fit more cars (records) on this highway and get better throughput?
In this presentation, we will use JDBC source and sink connectors as examples of how to tune source/sink connectors:
* Elaborate internals of source vs sink connectors(client/producer vs consumer/client)
* List of configurations to tune for producer/consumer
* List of configurations to tune from source/sink JDBC connector
* Throughput results of tuned vs untuned
* Which metrics to monitor
* What can’t be tuned (data conversion between JDBC client and producer/consumer)
Let us Connect all of our systems through the largest possible highway!
Connect, Test, Optimize: The Ultimate Kafka Connector Benchmarking ToolkitHostedbyConfluent
"Kafka Connect is quintessential for most production-grade Kafka data pipelines. As a core Kafka Connect team supporting more than 75 connectors at Confluent, we needed a platform that not only enables easy repeatability of tests across a breadth of connectors but also facilitates benchmarking and extensive analysis of diverse test runs. This session goes over the challenges in designing a framework to test connector performance.
We will cover specific aspects of Connector testing, fine tuning parameters like connector configurations, clusters specifications for optimal performance. The framework integrates with various tools such as Jmeter, Hammerdb, ChaosMesh, Prometheus etc., scaled for Cloud-native environments. We will further go over how we optimized connector performance for maximum public record poll rates, cpu/memory usage, throughput, latencies for different data formats.
Attendees learn in detail how real-world scenarios can be simulated in a test setup for a few connectors like S3 Sink Connector. We also go over some generic guidelines for performance testing of Kafka Connectors and practical considerations for implementing such test frameworks in general."
Solving the C20K problem: Raising the bar in PHP Performance and ScalabilityZendCon
How do you configure and tune your PHP applications to handle 20,000
or more concurrent connections to your database on your desktop? This technical session describes how to implement and tune PHP's OCI8 extension with Oracle's Database Resident Connection Pool (DRCP).
Integrating Apache Kafka with other systems in a reliable and scalable way is often a key part of a streaming platform. Fortunately, Apache Kafka includes the Connect API that enables streaming integration both in and out of Kafka. Like any technology, understanding its architecture and deployment patterns is key to successful use, as is knowing where to go looking when things aren’t working.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
