This document reviews new approaches for diagnosing parasitic diseases. It discusses old diagnostic methods like microscopy that have changed little in decades. Newer methods discussed include immunoassays, molecular approaches like PCR and LAMP, and mass spectrometry-based proteomics. The document summarizes these diagnostic tools and compares the tools available from the CDC and the NRCP for diagnosing various parasitic diseases. It highlights the potential for new technologies to greatly improve parasite detection compared to traditional microscopy-reliant methods.
