Cover Songs Comparison
In the music industry, it is not uncommon for original songs to be rerecorded and altered by other
artists resulting in what is known as a cover song. One example of this situations occurrence can be
seen in Vance Joy s indie folk pop song, Riptide , that was famously covered by pop and country
crossover artist, Taylor Swift. Overall, there are many factors that go into the relationship between an
original and cover song and the artists of each song. Such as both artist s connection to the song and
the relationship between the artists themselves. There are also differences between the original and
cover songs themselves including song structure, instrumentation, vocals, lyrics, and lyrical meaning.
Vance Joy and Taylor Swift met for the first time backstage in New York at the Late Night Show with
David Letterman (Whitney). By the time for their first meeting, Swift had already covered Joy s hit
single, Riptide , on a British radio station and announced her invitation for Joy to join her as the
opening act on her international 1989 tour (Adams). Though Joy is an indie folk pop singer and Swift
a country, pop singer, the two managed to join their audiences together and create continued mass
popularity for Riptide as well as promote listeners of both genres to hear the two perform at the 1989
tour. As Joy was used to performing in smaller venues, the packed auditoriums that Swift s tour filled
were a new experience for him and encouraged him to step outside his

Undertale Essay
Game Analysis: Undertale (2015)
In Undertale the combat system is very unique in comparison to other games by being a mix of a
Shoot em up game and a turn based RPG. Once a player enters combat through a random encounter in
the overworld they are greeted with a screen showing the enemies sprite and at the bottom of the
screen 4 different options for them to pick; fight, act, item and mercy. Once it is the enemy s turn to
attack the player A box will appear with a player controlled heart symbol in the centre, then different
things will appear in the box that the player must avoid or they will take damage. If the player chooses
the fight command they will be shown a bar at the bottom of the screen with a bar moving across the
screen. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The game has a simple pixel art style which works quite well as it is meant to resemble a game that
would be for the NES or SNES. The characters in battle are always in black and white with a simple
black background which as a design choice works quite well as it doesn t distract the player from
dodging the enemies attacks and makes sure there s no way they can mistake any background element
for an attack they must dodge.
The enemy designs in the game are very unique and interesting, often representing some kind of
character trope, for example there is an enemy in the game named Aaron that is a horse with a
mermaid s tail that is obsessed with his muscles. When Aaron attacks the player, the player must move
out of the way from 2 arms on the side of the box that come up from the bottom. Every monster in the
game has specialised attacks like this, for example there is an enemy that has an obsession with
cleaning and his attack is water droplets flowing out from the middle of the screen that the player has
to avoid. This is a good design decision as it adds depth and intrigue to the characters in an extremely
simple way which will make the player interested to see what other attacks the monsters

Disaster Management
PREFACE
The Indian subcontinent has a tropical climate and unstable landforms. India, Pakistan, and
Bangladesh are prone to natural disasters of various kinds on a continual basis. Coupled with high
population density, poverty, illiteracy and lack of infrastructure, the natural disasters kill thousands of
people and leave a devastating impact on economy and environment.
The importance of telecommunication in disaster management has been widely accepted since the
early days of the development of radio communication. Disasters can strike without warning at any
time of the day or night. On the Indian subcontinent, the pressure from population increase and over
exploitation of resources for haphazard development has disturbed the ecological ... Show more

When conducted as a military operation, it is termed Disaster Relief Operation (DRO) and can be a
follow up to a Non combatant evacuation operation (NEO). They may be supported by a number of
secondary emergency services, such as specialist rescue teams.
Recovery
The aim of the recovery phase is to restore the affected area to its previous state. It differs from the
response phase in its focus; recovery efforts are concerned with issues and decisions that must be
made after immediate needs are addressed. Recovery efforts are primarily concerned with actions that
involve rebuilding destroyed property, re employment, and the repair of other essential infrastructure.
An important aspect of effective recovery efforts is taking advantage of a window of opportunity for
the implementation of mitigative measures that might otherwise be unpopular. Citizens of the affected
area are more likely to accept more mitigative changes when a recent disaster is in fresh memory.
In India, the role of emergency management falls to National Disaster Management of India, a
government agency subordinate to the Ministry of Home affairs. In recent years there has been a shift
in emphasis, from response and recovery to strategic risk management and reduction, and from a
government centered approach to decentralized community participation. The countries of the Indian
subcontinent suffer continually from natural disasters such as drought, floods, cyclones, earthquakes,
landslides,

Cryptography Is Art Of Secret Writing
1.
The term cryptography develops from a Greek word which implies hidden or secret writing.
Cryptography is art of secret writing. The primary service provided by cryptography is capability to
send information between two participants in an effective way that halts others from reading it. This
type of cryptography provides other services namely,
integrity checking→ reassuring the recipient regarding a new message in which the message doesn t
seem to be altered viewing that it was actually given by a legal source.
Authentication →verifying someone s (or something s) identity.
Messages within its original form is named plain text or clear text. The hidden info is generally known
as cipher text. The procedure for producing cipher text from plain text is named encryption. The
reverse of encryption is known as decryption. While cryptographers invent clever secret codes, crypt
analysts plan to break these codes. Both these disciplines constantly make sure to keep in advance of
one another. Ultimately, the successes of the cryptographers rests on the cryptography systems are
likely to involve both an algorithm as well as a secret value. Here the secret value is called as key. The
purpose for having a key alongside an algorithm is the idea that it can be problematic to keep devising
new algorithms which allows reversible scrambling of data, and it will be hard to quickly explain a
newly devised algorithm with the person you d be willing to start communicating securely.

The Automatic Millionaire
The Automatic Millionaire
Meet the Automatic Millionaires The book begins with the author David Bach meeting Jim McIntyre
after one of his investment classes. Jim requests to meet the author to review their financial situation
and the meeting is set. Mr. Bach is amazed as he looks through the McIntyre s finances and the
conversation switches from looking at their situation to asking how they ve done what they ve done.
What the McIntyres told the author has help himself and many others through this book become

First one must decide to set up an emergency fund as well the amount to set aside. Another thing
pointed out is the opportunity to make this money work for you. Make sure the money isn t too
accessible otherwise it is very tempting to dip into it. The author suggests a money market account or
U.S. savings bonds as vehicles to use for this occasion. Once established make adding to the account
automatic.
Homeownership
This chapter is all about the benefits of owning a home. Renting doesn t lead to equity and is a less
productive use of your money. Using a mortgage acts like high end investors using leverage, using
someone else s money to work for you. David Bach also brings up a good way to pay down your
mortgage quickly. By making biweekly payments instead of monthly payments, you essentially make
13 monthly payments each year. The tricky part is making biweekly payments automatic. Many banks
will not accept the payments so one must use an outside source. Make sure you ask your bank if they
offer a way to achieve this, if not ask if they can refer you to a company that does.
Debt Free Lifestyle There are both good and bad types of loans. Credit cards are of the bad type. With
their high interest rates and suggested minimum payments, a credit card user could end up paying off
their debt for life. The best thing to do is to stop carrying them altogether. Call up the credit card
company and try to renegotiate the interest rate

Watching Kung Fu Panda Three Times
MOM! It s not fair! My youngest child yelled again. Alex continued with his exasperated three year
old logic, AJ got to watch Kung Fu Panda three times, and I only got to see it twice last night! (A. G.
Neff, personal communication, October 4, 2012). The consternation arose from my insistence that a
different movie should be viewed other than the same one that had been continually playing on the
television set for the previous three days. My children always love repeat performances, and ever
since I had pulled the DVD out of the moving boxes and told them I needed to watch it as part of my
own homework, it was as if no other film would satisfy (Cobb, Stevenson Osborne, 2008). My five
year old recognized that I would not allow another viewing without a change in tactics. But Mom, if
you don t watch it again you won t be able to do your homework. You won t know that Po s Dad
[Note: according to the movie transcript Po s Dad is the character s actual name] isn t even a panda!
(Aibel Berger, 2008, p. 3). Without explaining that I had already familiar with the situation because I
had seen the movie no less than three times in the previous 72 hours, I replied, Is that really
important? YES! They both yelled back. AJ unwittingly enlightened me, All the animals are different,
but they re ALL important! They all have to do different stuff to help Po be[come] the Dragon
Warrior! (A. J. Neff, personal communication, October 4, 2012). It took a first grader

Cleats Descriptive Writing
Seeing my cleats you would naturally think that they are worn by an average athlete unconcerned with
style. The first thing noticeable is how the cleats were originally white, but have turned a yellowish
brownish color like fading summer grass. The right cleat s lace is torn on the end, so I had to even out
the laces to be able to tie them. The left shoe has a black broken hair tie, knotted 5 times at the bottom
of the lace. It was my girlfriend s before it broke and she let me have it for some extra luck. The once
clear , rubber spikes on the bottom had now turned brown and opaque, worn down to about the length
of a fingernail. The covering near the toe of the shoe was beginning to rip off, so you could see a light
brown rough fabric that structured the cleat. Even though they re ugly, worn out, and ready to be
tossed into the trash, these cleats gave me the best two seasons of my life: one season of lacrosse,
which turned out to be the season that led to a chance for me to commit to the college of my dreams,

hoped it wouldn t be the last. The hair band was sitting on the bottom of the left shoelace giving me all
the luck I needed. The bottom of the cleats had some dirt stuck in the creases and a small ant pile of
turf pellets under my heel. The hair band gave me some extra luck on that day because I might have
played the best lacrosse I have ever played. Franklin Field is the place where I ripped part of the shoe

Comparison and Contrast
In the name Allah
Professor: Dr.Bahman Amani
Prepared by: Akbar Akbari
Place: IAU Maraghe
Date: May 6th 2010
❖ Definition: To compare is to show how items are alike. To contrast is to show how items are
different. Thus comparison and contrast involve pointing out the similarities or differences between
two (or more) items.
In deciding what to compare or contrast, you will want to make sure that the items share points in
common. Thus, the items compared are usually the same kind or class of thing, and in comparing and
contrasting them, you essentially establish two or more categories, showing the differences or
similarities between or among them. For example, you can compare two passenger cars a Ford and a
Cadillac ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But your readers will probably want to know what the similarity or difference amounts to. You can
write this for a thesis. However, once you ve noted the difference, the readers will see that you ve
merely stated the obvious. Thus comparison and contrast for its own sake is generally pointless, but
both are extremely useful to develop support for a thesis. To support the thesis statement we should
outline central paragraphs.
❖ Central paragraph organization:
When you have decided whether to concentrate on comparison or contrast, you still must decide how
to do it. You should organize your comparison or contrast by whichever method suits your material
best. There are three different methods of organization of central paragraph: 1) Point by point or
alternating method 2) Block method 3) Mixed method
1) Point by point or alternating method: In this method you explain one characteristic of item A and
then immediately compare it with that of item B and then you go on to compare the two items point by
point. For example when you want to contrast two brands of automobile e. g. Nissan and Toyota to
decide which to buy, you will consider such subtopics (elements) as price, mile per gallon, length and
width, comfort, and maintenance expense. Thus the organizational type will be:

Ethics in Cosmetic Surgery
Every year more and more people around the world are choosing to have cosmetic surgery. It seems to
be an easy fix to problems that people perceive, even if the problems are natural, like breast size. In a
sociological study done in the UK, the author found that [T]o have breast implants requires a major
medical procedure, but they are sold as a fashion accessory and the procedure is framed as a beauty
treatment rather than an operation by those who sell it (Taylor). While many cosmetic surgeries are
fairly simple procedures, there is very little benefit to outweigh the extreme risks, and many doctors
are more interested in making money than fully explaining all of the risks to their patients. Many
patients would be better helped by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case of breast augmentation, part of treating an infection means removing the implants (Ho
Asjoe). Not only would the patient be sick from the infection, but they would not even have anything
to show for it. According to the study done by Doctors Yoho, Romaine, and O Neil, the occurrence of
infection after liposuction is as low as 1 in 107, with 1 in 70,892 resulting in death (Yoho et al 738).
They also provide information from a Dutch study, where half of 107 male patients who had
undergone abdominoplasty suffered from some sort of wound infection (Yoho et al 739). Many
cosmetic surgeries are targeted at older patients, who are much more likely to get an infection than
younger patients. Because the patients are older, they are more likely to also have other health
problems, such as diabetes. This also raises their risk factor for infection (Surgical Site Infections).
While infections do not tend to be deadly, there is always the possibility of something serious
happening. The most dangerous risk of infection is sepsis. This usually occurs in the hospital, after the
surgery. The patient would start out with just a fever and redness around the wound site, then if
antibiotics are not administered quickly enough, or if the infection is resistant, the infection can
progress and begin to shut down organs, leading to death (Sepsis). In order to help prevent infection,
doctors must make sure that the patient is in good health and able to keep

The Destruction Of The Environment In The Gilded Age
American seemed to think nothing of remarking nature for the sake of progress , Alexis de
Tocqueville, a French diplomat commented when he was visiting the United States in 1831. While the
American people were overwhelmed by pride and pleasure from their achievement in making
industrial and economic progress, the environment was harmed in an alarming speed. Landscape was
transformed, and forests were destroyed due to industrialization. By 1990, only a fraction of the
United States Virgin forests were still standing. Farmers cleared trees to plant crops, and loggers cut
down large areas of woodland for business profits. More than that, the most horrific thing was the
government was willing to encourage loggers to exploit the forests resources by selling them large
plots of land in the North West. In other words, the government was inviting loggers to destroy the
landscape. Besides the loss of forests, the increasing number of ranching boosted the erosion of
landscape. Crops were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Air pollution such as black smoke caused health issues such as respiratory disease. Extreme example
of air pollution like Pittsburgh had people s hands and faces were constantly grimy, clean collars

for air pollution. According to statistics, the 15,000 horses in Rochester, New York, left enough waste
in a year to cover an acre of land with a layer of 175 feet high . These horrify numbers happened due
to the blindly industrialization during the Gilded Age, and people allowed all of those waste and

Debt Driven Economy
Not only is humanity continuously following a natural cycle on a grand time scale, but also smaller
aspects of everyday lives follow a similar pattern. This poem relates the the cyclical nature of single
human life to the cyclical nature of the economy. This poem demonstrates how the progression of life
follows a pattern and how a smaller aspect, the economy, also follows a patterns that can relate to each
other.
Life A Debt Driven Economy
As you get older, you come to understand the economics of age.
You go through a cycle you see.

You developed, a state of Growth.
You reached your prime,
Your life was booming, a state of Prosperity.

This poem relates the cyclical nature of our economy to each individual life coming full circle.
Throughout history, the economy booms and times become prosperous, such as the Roaring 20 s.
However, the economy can go bust and ruin lives, such as the Great Depression, just as quickly. This
illustrates how the loop of the economy and a human s life are related. This also shows that the
balance in this universe cannot be broken or changed. This poem describes being young and having
energy, which would be considered the upward swing of your life and the times of a developing
economy. Then there is a state of prosperity where one reaches their prime, which would be being at
the top of the circular swing and when the economy is booming. And then begins the process of
having less energy, not being as prosperous, start of aging; all of which would be considered the
downward swing and the economy going bust. And ultimately, death is the lowest point of the swing.
This whole cycle then begins all again, but with another life this time. It is not surprising that if the
timeline of humanity, then certain aspects such as the economy also follow the circular pattern too.
This theme is a double edged sword. While it is comforting to know that rough times will not last
forever and humanity will pull itself up, it is also depressing to know nothing good in life will always
stay the same, it will eventually all burn down for it to be rebuilt

Psychopath Research Paper
In mainstream culture and science alike, the attitude of psychopaths is that they are emotionless or

Advantages And Cons Of White Privilege, And African Americans
Caucasian Americans have many privileges that African Americans do not get to share with them.
This is known as white privilege, a problem that has haunted the United States for many years. White
privilege is a term used to describe the benefits and advantages that colored people do not have. It is
defined as a special right or something granted for certain people. Caucasians may not realize or want
to admit that they are more privileged just because their skin is white. Racial prejudice does not apply
strictly to Caucasian verses African American, it affects every race and culture all over the world like a
disease. A Caucasian person can have a white privilege without being prejudice. Privilege, no matter
the type, is something you are born with and prejudice is taught intentionally or unintentionally.
Prejudice opinions are preconceived and not based on factual evidence or experience. The most
obvious differences between privilege and prejudice are the advantages versus disadvantages based on
race, culture, and basic human rights.

Persuasive Narrative Essay
It was my last memory from my class at Meadowbrook, the school s right of passage at the end of the
8th grade year: ziplining in Costa Rica. I felt my stomach tighten as I took a step up to the first
platform, took one last deep breath, and jumped. The violent, Costa Rican air whipped around me,
spinning my body in a circle like a helicopter blade. I tirelessly squeezed the handlebar with the rough,
sandpaper gloves like my life depended on it. Ironically, at the time, I thought it did. I was mortified.
After helplessly spinning around for about a minute, I crashed into the end of the line and nervously
unhooked my harness. One down, seven to go. The next line began similarly to the first one. I leaped
off the platform hesitantly, but the wind had died down and I was able to relax. I gazed across the
seemingly endless lush, green landscapes of the Costa Rican mountain ranges in awe. Still choke
holding the handlebar, I was not comfortable in the slightest. I left the third platform just a second
quicker feeling slightly more secure in the harness. This time, I released the handlebar, leaving my
doubts and worries behind. I was about as content as I could possibly be given the circumstances,
dangling thousands of feet up in the air in the mountains, supported by a jaded wooden rope an inch in
diameter. Two summers ago, I trotted onto the 18th green, up one stroke in the tournament. It felt
incredible, all my hard work was finally going to pay off. I had a 2 foot putt with no break, a putt I
could make a million times over in my sleep. I placed my hands onto my putter as they gradually
started to shake and tremble. I felt my stomach tighten as I realized this gimme putt was nothing I
could have ever prepared for. I was ready to get my first tournament win. My hands still wavering, I
brought the putter straight back and through. It felt like an eternity as my ball inched closer and closer
toward the hole. But instead of reveling in the clink as the ball hit the bottom of the hole, the ball took
a left hand turn, hit the edge of the cup, and settled a measly inch or two from the hole. I tapped in and
walked away, devastated that I had just lost the tournament. It was as if my countless hours of
preparation had

I found this interesting article from the New York Tribune it was called Cuba: The Land of
Opportunity. Learning about Cuba was part of the Caribbean that I enjoyed and wanted to learn more
in depth about. We touched upon different media coverage during that time and different elements of
how media affected people s views and decisions. It was written on April 18, 1919. I thought it was
interesting that the bottom of the newspaper had the information about their offices. It listed the New

know this article isn t simply made up. It was truly part of that time period. Although this comes from

Journalism we learned about in class I know this source is reliable and has been unaltered. After

how the newspaper and the Company was trying to Portray Cuba. A lot of times the information
published was fabricated or simply didn t have any support. Cuba was portrayed as this grand thing.
However the people of Cuba were seen to be these positive people who supported America. But in
contrast the Cubans wanted the Americans out of their land. They failed to mention of exploitation of
the Cubans and the treatment of the Cubans. So in that sense the information was fabricated. There
were parts to the story that are missing. It supported America having control of Cuba in different
ways. Specifically toward the Caribbean majority of the information

English princess of the House of Wessex. Margaret was sometimes called «The Pearl of the Scotland .
Born in exile in Hungary. Margaret and her family returned to England in 1057, but ran away towards
the kingdom of the Scotland after the Norman conquest of England of 1066. Around 1070 Margaret
married Malcolm III of the Scotland, and became Queen of Scotland. The King always associated his
wife with the business of the kingdom and his reign for forty years was of the happiest: eight children
in a very close home and a country managed well in spite of fights with the Norman invaders. She was
a pious woman, and among the numerous acts of charity, she created a ferry through Firth of Forth for
the pilgrims going to the abbey of Dunfermline, which gave the cities of South Queensferry and North
Queensferry their names. Margaret was the mother of three kings of Scotland and a husband of the
queen of England. According to Saint Marguerite s life, attributed by to Turgot de Durham, she died in
Castle of Edinburgh in 1093, a few days after having received the news of the death of her husband in
battle. In 1250 she was canonized by pope, and her rests were interred in a sanctuary in the abbey of

Canadian Tire Case Study
Canadian Tire Corporation has a supply chain that is unique to their business. With suppliers from all
around the world, it is important for Canadian Tire to have a supply chain management system that
allows inventory information to be accessed easily and fast. Two information systems are currently
being used by CTC are Manugistics system (a supply chain management system) and, AS/400 which
is used to track all inventory within the retail store. Many well known companies continue to use
AS/400, for example HSBC and Office Depot. CTC has international offices and partnerships with
third party logistic companies which adds value to the company because it reduces cost, time and the
amount of work needed for planning.
The supply chain network for Canadian Tire extends internationally to China, Hong
Kong, India and Mexico. Approximately 43 percent of CTC s inventory is purchased primarily from
Asia. The information system process uses help reduces the amount of work and planning that goes
into collecting the information and data from these countries. International offices create value for the
company overall by slim lining the communication channel to information that is required by head
office, which increases productivity and reduces costs.
Secondly, CTC also engages some third party logistic companies to provide distribution ... Show more

The old system was outdated, which caused some of their suppliers to use their own production
planning systems to forecast and meet anticipated demand. This is because CTC could only commit to
firm orders for the first two weeks of an inventory forecast. Additional orders would be communicated
to suppliers later electronically. This information might not have been acted on right away, and there
was a possibility that the order may not be fulfilled due to shortage of resources along the supply

Potential For Victoria s Dairy Industry
Potential for Victoria s Dairy Industry to Move towards a Partial Mixed Ration Feeding System
Jasmine Hasluck
Feed is a major cost in the production of milk so it is important for Victorian dairy farmers to consider
which feeding strategy is going to be the most efficient in generating high profit and productivity. We
can broadly group dairy feeding strategies into 5 systems (Little, S 2010). System 1 is pasture based
with other forages and up to 1 tonne of grain or concentrates fed in bail. System 2 is pasture based
with other forages and more than 1 tonne of grain or concentrate fed in bail. System 3 is a partial
mixed ration (PMR) fed on a feed pad, grazed pasture and grain or concentrate may be fed in bail.
System 4 is a hybrid system, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It requires minimal capital and infrastructure by allowing cattle to graze pasture. However this system
has become less efficient as Victorian dairy farms have become more intense and climatic conditions
and milk prices are volatile. Since the price of milk became deregulated in 2000 there was a push for
Australian dairy farms to become more productive to remain competitive with international dairy
industries (Edwards, G 2003). This led to increases in stocking density and ultimately put pressure on
pasture supply. Rainfall is a limiting factor on pasture growth and year to year variability in rainfall
has had a huge negative effect on Victorian dairy farmers. In 2009/10 Victoria was faced with severe
droughts, which showed a fall in milk production of over 340 million litres (Dairy Australia, 2015).
During an extended period of low rainfall the quantity and quality of pasture is limited, which means
pasture based farms are forced to buy in supplementary feed and/or irrigation water to satisfy the feed
requirements of dairy cattle. Climatic variability poses a high risk in this system, which has led to
farmers to start considering other feeding options such as a partial mixed ration which might alleviate
this risk. Figure 1. Dairy Feeding Systems (Little, S 2010)
Partial mixed ration systems combine the cost effectiveness of pasture based feeding with a
formulated diet which gives the potential to improve productivity and decrease the risk associated

Summary Of In Cold Blood By Truman Capote
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote Entry #1: Speaker
Truman Capote is described in the biography section of the book as being born in 1924 in New
Orleans. He, over his lifetime, wrote a variety of works from short stories to memoirs. In the
acknowledgments, he says that the information presented in the book is taken from official records or
is the result of interviews. He then goes on to mention some of the important people to help make the
book happen like the members of Finney County, the place where the event happened, and notable
members of institutions like Kansas State University and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Capote
did not find any of the information first hand, nor is he from the state in which the crime occurred. He
simply wrote a clear account of what happened by using interviews and police notes after the fact.
Truman Capote s relationship to the topic was simply that he volunteered to be the voice of a case that
otherwise might not have been heard throughout the country and around the world in full detail and
for years to come.
Throughout the book, Capote establishes himself as a qualified and trustworthy writer through his use
of ethos, or credibility. He shows the degree of precision and accuracy of his facts by mentioning
highly trusted individuals and organizations. For example, he says while describing Alvin Dewey, the
head of the case for the state as being a former sheriff of Finney County and F.B.I. Special Agent.

Introduction
Technology is embedded in almost every aspect of business today. Information technology has now
become a primary driver of market differentiation, business growth, and profitability. This new
Internet led the evolution of the ubiquitous Web 2.0 that is capable of integrating physical and virtual
world entities. Web 2.0 was characterized by specialized, publicly available data sources (e.g.
mapping data, weather information, etc.) accessible via light weight APIs (Application Programming
Interfaces) that can be used to create value added services in the form of Mashups. The propagation of
Web APIs has transformed the Web into a platform for collaborative development and information
sharing. The core of this story on the services transformation is not about the scale of the services nor
is it about the revolution in digital technology. Rather, this story is about how the application of rule
based information technology tools to service activities is transforming the services component of the
economy and mutating the web to become a nimble, dynamic programming platform.

Women s Struggle For Equality
Women in American society have endured numerous struggles to fight for equality throughout history.
Today American women have come a long way by narrowing gender gaps and becoming successful in
aspects of life that are prominently male dominated. Although American women are living a better life
than they were years ago, they still deal with inequality when it comes to the workforce, income,
politics, domestic duties, and sex. The reason women are not equal to men in these aspects of life are
because men hold most of the jobs in the STEM fields of work, make higher incomes than women in
the same level of employment, dominate congress and the government, not looked upon to take care
of the house duties, and are praised for sex rather than shamed like women are. Living as an American
woman today is far from difficult but in contrast, living as an American man is still substantially
better. Women have dealt with constant battles in the workplace but the most important was the ability
to work alongside men in any field of employment. As stated in the article, Women in the Professional
Workplace by Jennifer Dorning, the status for women in the workforce has improved over the last
several decades, but many women still struggle for equality in many occupations (Dorning). For
example, women are extremely underrepresented in the fields of science, technology development,
and engineering making up only 20% of the people employed in these particular categories (Pinker).

mentioned critical aspect of containment must be considered in recent context. China is already
displaying aggressive behavior through the expansion of its military footprint onto the Spratly Islands.

India, Japan, and Australia. India and Australia ended up forgoing the military

Persuasive Essay On How To Get A Driver s License
Getting my driver s license was a huge milestone in my life. There are a lot of steps to take in order to
earn a license. You need to be prepared to drive in a world where rules are an abstract concept, and are
rarely applied. Here is the process I went through to obtain my driver s license, and how I barely
achieved a goal that was very important to me.
Before I could even think about driving myself to school, I had to obtain a learner s permit for 6
months. Most teenagers earn their learner s permit at 15 and a half, their parents give them $365 to go
to driving school for 2 weeks, and then they have their license at 16 years old. That was not the case
for me. My parents were not as supportive of me nor as excited as most parents would be for their
teenagers to get their driver s license. I was unable to earn my permit until I was 16. When the long
and torturous 6 months of me driving with my mother were finally over, I simply asked my parents if
they could financially help me out with driving school. They never had the money for those kinds of
things. That meant it was all up to me to be independent and get a job. At seventeen years old I had
enough money to take to the Springfield School of Driving and place a deposit to start my classes.
After I finished driving school, I was eager to schedule my driver s exam.
August 22, 2017 was a rainy day. At the time, I had never even driven once in the rain. I was unaware
how to use both windshield wipers and headlights. This

James Levine Essay
Capping a career spanning 40 years as musical director for the Metropolitan Opera, with over 2,500
performances and 85 operas conducted, James Levine is to conduct one of his favorite operas, Die
Entführung aus dem Serail as his final work before retiring to the new position of Musical Director
Emeritus. In the final dress rehearsal, on the twentieth of April, Levine conducted the piece with the
energy, eccentricity, and excellence known nearly exclusively to him in his field. In the rehearsal,
Levine, as well as the standout coloratura soprano Albina Shagimuratova as Konstanze and bass Hans
Peter König as Osmin, displayed the gravitas and mastery of the Mozart opera to perfection. When W.

clearly articulates the middle eastern atmosphere. The set is also designed perfectly in a fashion so that

also designed by Ms. Herbert, were brilliant; the colors of the clothes of the Turks matched their
colorful surroundings, whilst the European characters were dressed in more monochrome, but elegant

What Role Does Utopia Play In A Dystopian Society
The world in any society has two sides, Utopia which is defined as the perfect world and the peaceful
life that is free from disasters. This word Utopia is derived from Greek roots by Sir Thomas More
which means a good place (More 37). Merriam Webster defined Utopia as an imaginary place, all life
aspects are perfect, as the world suffers from nothing (Webster 19). while Dystopia is defined as an
imagined universe in which the unequal society controls the fancy of an ideal society which are
maintained through technological, moral, corporate or totalitarian control Beauty of dystopia is that it
lets us vicariously experience future worlds but we still have the power to change our own (Condie
75). in which the genre challenges utopia s fundamental supposition of human perfectibility, arguing
humanity s inherent flaws that negate the possibility of constructing ideal societies.
both Utopia and Dystopia are opposite terms, one means perfection and the other means that

Ancient Greek Horses Essay
Horses in Ancient Greece
When thinking back to the ancient times, the thought of the great chariot races will inevitably enter a
person s mind. Horses were not only used for this spectacular and dangerous event in early times, but
they were used and worshipped as so much more. The Greeks saw horses as a symbol of speed,
competition, and human mastery over nature. They were viewed as an animal worthy of much respect
and necessary tool for the Greeks competitive personalities. Horses were an integral part of life in
ancient Greece. They played an active role in warfare, transportation and in the games such as the
Panathenaic Games in Athens. Athenian enthusiasm for the horse was expressed in the many civic

More likely, the reason men did not fight on horseback under Greek and Roman rule is that horsemen
are not actually that effective against trained, organized foot soldiers. Both the Greeks, after about 750
BC, and the Romans had trained foot soldiers, but in the medieval period armies did not have the
resources to train foot soldiers, and so the cavalry, which is the horses and their riders, became more
useful. Chariots are often associated with Classical civilization. For several centuries, they were the
primary means of employment for horses and a powerful addition to several ancient armies. The
harnessed Greek horse is much more of a spectacular legacy than the ridden horse. The art of driving
was mastered long before the art of riding. At the equestrian contests which were held with the athletic
games from an early date, there was four horse chariot racing. Simple horse racing was soon added
and then chariot races with a team of mules or a single mare, both of which varieties were later
abandoned, and then with a pair of full grown stallions and later with younger horses. The horse
breeders such as Phainippus, Hipponicus, and Hippocleides, became famous along with the athletes
and often sent out their trained horses great distances for competition. Chariot racing was one of the
most popular sports to watch and was considered the most dangerous and requiring the most skill and
confidence. When the chariots would round the turning posts at the ends of the

Quality Improvement Initiative Falls Management Program
Quality Improvement Initiative Falls Management Program in Nursing Homes
Falls are very common among nursing home residents. Residents in nursing homes are more likely to
fall due to their age, chronic health conditions, medication, or change in the environment after
admission to the facility. The people who provide care every day in nursing homes know firsthand
how critical falling can be to the health of the residents they care for. Fall prevention is critical in
order to decrease falls in nursing homes. There are programs that are designed to help nursing home
staff members identify the reason for resident fall. These programs give a preventive measure that
assures accuracy and sensitivity of patients risk from falling. The Falls Management Program (FMP)
is one of these programs. The Falls Management Program (FMP) is a multifaceted quality
improvement initiative that is designed to assist nursing homes, it includes assessment, individualized
care planning, resident monitoring, and the elimination of environmental safety hazards (Taylor, J.,
Parmelee, P., Brown, H., Ouslander, J., 2005). FMP also improves care processes and outcomes
through educational, staff training and quality improvement tools and ongoing consultation by
qualified falls nurse. There are several reasons why FMP is significant. Research shows that about half
of the nursing home residents in the U.S. fall each year and it is estimated that 1 in 3 of those who fall

Since the rise of streaming services like Netflix, children and young adults today find themselves
picking up books less and looking at screens more. Watching TV at a young age has often been
connected to poor performance on standardized tests. This includes one study which found that
Californian third graders who had televisions in their bedroom, watched more TV and in turn,
performed worse on standardized tests than those who did not (Gosline).
Some believe students who spend more time on video games instead of reading perform poorly in
school. This includes a group of schools in Michigan. Their after school program named, Kids
Learning in Computer Klubhouses! gave students a place to go after school to surf the web and play
video games. The program attracted students who, [miss] a lot of school and who [aren t] particularly
successful according to one adult coordinator (Girod). However, both a 2000 and 1997 study found a
small correlation between amount of time spent playing video games and GPA suggesting that while
the program may have attracted those who do not perform well, their performance may have been
caused by other factors (Craton).
Napping is also an option for some students. Given that many find themselves up until the odd hours
in the morning, catching up on sleep can become a priority when given free time. Taking a nap
immediately after a lecture was shown to improve cognitive memory and in turn, standardized test

Different Perspectives In Octavia Butler s Kindred
In Octavia Butler s Kindred, Dana and Kevin both experience many unbelievable events that change
their sense of reality. They each travel back to the antebellum South for different amounts of time,
gaining different insights from the same events. Kevin, a white man, travels back to a time of
privilege, while his wife Dana, a black woman, travels back to a time of hardship and enslavement.
Their contrasting perspectives cause them to see the world differently. For example, Kevin draws from
his sole point of view, while Dana uses her own perspective with other people s perspectives. No
matter when or where they are, Dana and Kevin determine the truth through what see and what they
already know.
Kevin and Dana first conflict when Dana returns to 1976 for the first time. Kevin is in disbelief about
where Dana went, as he suggests what she experienced was a dream (17). He says this despite the fact
that he saw Dana disappear and reappear, something out of the ordinary. His perspective is different
from Dana s, meaning what he sees isn t always what actually happens. Dana goes back in time, while
Kevin saw Dana vanish and reappear (16). Despite not knowing what Dana experienced, he still
believes his point of view is a fact. Kevin insists Dana s experience was a dream, and refers to his
perspective as facts (16). By doing so, he asserts his perspective, the white male perspective, is
objective and truthful, while Dana s is illegitimate. Kevin s view is similar to how the

Elie Wiesel Quotes On Faith In God
When one experiences that he cannot tolerate, he doubts his religion and his God s existence. Elie
Wiesel s Night, a memoir of the author s experience of the Holocaust, shows that this hypothesis was
true. In contrast to the beginning where Elie Wiesel considered praying as an unquestionable action,
throughout his memoir, his faith in God gradually vanished as he experienced the Hell . Elie Wiesel
confided his change of the faith in God by the usage of dialogue, repetition, and irony.
The Night s main theme that one would eventually lose his faith in God when he encounters extreme

merely observed innocents being burnt to deaths. This passage was where Wiesel doubted God s
presence for the first time and where his faith in God aggravated. He not only repeated Never shall I
forget to underline that the Holocaust and its sin must not be forgotten, but also to assert that he was
now in a world without the God s presence, the world with merely the evils. Through using the

Finally, you may want to get your A/C checked before you hit the road. Nothing can dampen the fun
of a long summer road trip than a broken air conditioning. Your fun trip will quickly turn into a sweaty
mess. Run your air conditioning system and make sure that the air is cool. If the air doesn t feel as

John Hunter Anatomists
Anatomy, the study of the human body, is a discipline of the medical sciences that flourished beyond
precedent during the 17th and 18th centuries in Western Europe. During this time, many physicians,
anatomists, and doctors began to not only investigate anatomy more seriously, but also to teach
anatomy to more people. Dissections of cadavers became more common at learning establishments
and more accepted by the general public, and by government authorities. Anatomical theatres were
constructed for the mass teaching of dissections, and any and all bodies from criminal hangings were
donated as cadavers to the universities. As trends grow and become popular problems are bound to

anatomist of the two. John Hunter studied and dissected every animal he could, comparing animal and

the teeth. On top of that, he discovered the embryonic development similarities between species, as
well as discovering the paths of nerves and blood vessels through the skull. Through his work on the

and republicans and how religion is interpreted between the two parties. With regard to religion he
sees republicans as not only shying away from religion, but making it the core of their values. He says
republicans have an eighteenth century view on religion and how it relates to the government. Saying
they see the United States as being founded on the idea that one can be free to practice any religion,
however Christianity still should and does remain the core religion America was founded on; this
according to republicans as seen through the eyes of Richard Rorty. In contrast, on the topic of ...

He sees philosophy as playing a very small role in today s politics, even going so far as to say that
politicians and intellectuals of our time from western culture know little in the way of philosophy. He
goes on to describe the difference in views between the republicans and democrats view of democracy.
He says that republicans define democracy as government which is structured on freely elected
individuals. On the other hand Rorty sees democracy defined by the democrats as opportunity for
everyone and making wealth attainable for anyone who is willing and able to work for it. He seems to
believe that democrats are more empathetic to the struggle of those who are less fortunate. While the
republicans are viewed as those who believe no person should get a handout; which in their view

Essay On Surveillance Of Consumers
The eye on shoppers.
Nothing is in a grocery store is where it is by accident. Every item on a shelf has been planned Paco
Underhill claimed, who studied behavior and flavor of million American shoppers by looking at the
recorded footages inside the stores for years. By tracing customer s movement through the lens, Paco
drew out functions of customer s attention and action in stores, and then found out ways which help
stores improve their quality of services. Therefore, Paco s research such as a gold key for business s
successful that every company wants. However, his research turned to a controversy when some
critics arraigned the surveillance of consumers by retail anthropologists is manipulative and unethical.
Some people concerned about customer s privacy and argued that using their information for the
business s profit is unacceptable. Nonetheless, surveillance of consumers is definitely scot free and
advantageous by benefits it brings, which are making convenience for customers, improving store s
services, and developing the economy.
Firstly, making convenience for customers is one of the reasons surveillance of consumers is
beneficial. In the twenty first century, shopping became a common sense for every single one in the
world. Stores do not only provide food and drink which help people survive but supply other
necessities and hobbies. However, in the modern life, majority people are busy with their job so they
rarely have time to shop for themselves or their

Bill Cosby s Accusers Case
Following recent reports on the Bill Cosby rape accusations case which state that the famous
comedian obtained drugs known as Quaaludes in the intention to drug young women and have sex
with them, some reports suggest that Cosby s accusers are now afraid that the actor will try to make a
run for it. According to New York Times, Cosby testified in 2005 that he obtained Quaaludes which
are central nervous system depressants. He then admitted that he used the drugs in the intention to
make women have sexual relations with him. There are currently 36 accusations against Cosby, and
most of the women claim that they took a pill from him, whether to relax or feel better, and some
claim that the actor had slipped drugs into their drinks. During a four days time in 2005 and 2006,
Cosby was taken to the stand, where he answered questions about the Andrea Constand sexual
molestation. According to Cosby, the sexual encounter was consensual because Constand did not look
angry and because she never said anything that might have hinted her disaproval. Cosby stated that he
had romantic feelings towards Constand the minute he saw her at Temple, where he served on the
board of trustees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cosby also talked about his relationship with Beth Ferrier, one of the women who accused the actor of
sexual harrasment. When Cosby was asked to describe his relationship with Ferrier, he said We had
sex and we had dinners and sex and rendezvous. U.S. District Judge Eduardo Robreno unsealed 16
court filings on July 6, which Cosby s lawyers appealed to. The filings quote him saying that he
obtained the quaaludes in order to give them to women. Since then, a court reporting service released
the full deposition which contains Cosby s testimony about sexually assaulting dozens of women, one
of which is the plaintiff Andrea

  • 2. Cover Songs Comparison In the music industry, it is not uncommon for original songs to be rerecorded and altered by other artists resulting in what is known as a cover song. One example of this situations occurrence can be seen in Vance Joy s indie folk pop song, Riptide , that was famously covered by pop and country crossover artist, Taylor Swift. Overall, there are many factors that go into the relationship between an original and cover song and the artists of each song. Such as both artist s connection to the song and the relationship between the artists themselves. There are also differences between the original and cover songs themselves including song structure, instrumentation, vocals, lyrics, and lyrical meaning. Vance Joy and Taylor Swift met for the first time backstage in New York at the Late Night Show with David Letterman (Whitney). By the time for their first meeting, Swift had already covered Joy s hit single, Riptide , on a British radio station and announced her invitation for Joy to join her as the opening act on her international 1989 tour (Adams). Though Joy is an indie folk pop singer and Swift a country, pop singer, the two managed to join their audiences together and create continued mass popularity for Riptide as well as promote listeners of both genres to hear the two perform at the 1989 tour. As Joy was used to performing in smaller venues, the packed auditoriums that Swift s tour filled were a new experience for him and encouraged him to step outside his ... Once a player enters combat through a random encounter in the overworld they are greeted with a screen showing the enemies sprite and at the bottom of the screen 4 different options for them to pick; fight, act, item and mercy. Once it is the enemy s turn to attack the player A box will appear with a player controlled heart symbol in the centre, then different things will appear in the box that the player must avoid or they will take damage. If the player chooses the fight command they will be shown a bar at the bottom of the screen with a bar moving across the screen. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The game has a simple pixel art style which works quite well as it is meant to resemble a game that would be for the NES or SNES. The characters in battle are always in black and white with a simple black background which as a design choice works quite well as it doesn t distract the player from dodging the enemies attacks and makes sure there s no way they can mistake any background element for an attack they must dodge. The enemy designs in the game are very unique and interesting, often representing some kind of character trope, for example there is an enemy in the game named Aaron that is a horse with a mermaid s tail that is obsessed with his muscles. When Aaron attacks the player, the player must move out of the way from 2 arms on the side of the box that come up from the bottom. Every monster in the game has specialised attacks like this, for example there is an enemy that has an obsession with cleaning and his attack is water droplets flowing out from the middle of the screen that the player has to avoid. This is a good design decision as it adds depth and intrigue to the characters in an extremely simple way which will make the player interested to see what other attacks the monsters ... India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are prone to natural disasters of various kinds on a continual basis. Coupled with high population density, poverty, illiteracy and lack of infrastructure, the natural disasters kill thousands of people and leave a devastating impact on economy and environment. The importance of telecommunication in disaster management has been widely accepted since the early days of the development of radio communication. Disasters can strike without warning at any time of the day or night. On the Indian subcontinent, the pressure from population increase and over exploitation of resources for haphazard development has disturbed the ecological ... They may be supported by a number of secondary emergency services, such as specialist rescue teams. Recovery The aim of the recovery phase is to restore the affected area to its previous state. It differs from the response phase in its focus; recovery efforts are concerned with issues and decisions that must be made after immediate needs are addressed. Recovery efforts are primarily concerned with actions that involve rebuilding destroyed property, re employment, and the repair of other essential infrastructure. An important aspect of effective recovery efforts is taking advantage of a window of opportunity for the implementation of mitigative measures that might otherwise be unpopular. Citizens of the affected area are more likely to accept more mitigative changes when a recent disaster is in fresh memory. In India, the role of emergency management falls to National Disaster Management of India, a government agency subordinate to the Ministry of Home affairs. In recent years there has been a shift in emphasis, from response and recovery to strategic risk management and reduction, and from a government centered approach to decentralized community participation. The primary service provided by cryptography is capability to send information between two participants in an effective way that halts others from reading it. This type of cryptography provides other services namely, integrity checking→ reassuring the recipient regarding a new message in which the message doesn t seem to be altered viewing that it was actually given by a legal source. Authentication →verifying someone s (or something s) identity. Messages within its original form is named plain text or clear text. The hidden info is generally known as cipher text. The procedure for producing cipher text from plain text is named encryption. The reverse of encryption is known as decryption. While cryptographers invent clever secret codes, crypt analysts plan to break these codes. Both these disciplines constantly make sure to keep in advance of one another. Ultimately, the successes of the cryptographers rests on the cryptography systems are likely to involve both an algorithm as well as a secret value. Here the secret value is called as key. The purpose for having a key alongside an algorithm is the idea that it can be problematic to keep devising new algorithms which allows reversible scrambling of data, and it will be hard to quickly explain a newly devised algorithm with the person you d be willing to start communicating securely. 2. ... Another thing pointed out is the opportunity to make this money work for you. Make sure the money isn t too accessible otherwise it is very tempting to dip into it. Homeownership This chapter is all about the benefits of owning a home. Renting doesn t lead to equity and is a less productive use of your money. Using a mortgage acts like high end investors using leverage, using someone else s money to work for you. David Bach also brings up a good way to pay down your mortgage quickly. By making biweekly payments instead of monthly payments, you essentially make 13 monthly payments each year. The tricky part is making biweekly payments automatic. Many banks will not accept the payments so one must use an outside source. Make sure you ask your bank if they offer a way to achieve this, if not ask if they can refer you to a company that does. • 7. Watching Kung Fu Panda Three Times MOM! It s not fair! My youngest child yelled again. Alex continued with his exasperated three year old logic, AJ got to watch Kung Fu Panda three times, and I only got to see it twice last night! (A. G. Neff, personal communication, October 4, 2012). The consternation arose from my insistence that a different movie should be viewed other than the same one that had been continually playing on the television set for the previous three days. My children always love repeat performances, and ever since I had pulled the DVD out of the moving boxes and told them I needed to watch it as part of my own homework, it was as if no other film would satisfy (Cobb, Stevenson Osborne, 2008). My five year old recognized that I would not allow another viewing without a change in tactics. But Mom, if you don t watch it again you won t be able to do your homework. You won t know that Po s Dad [Note: according to the movie transcript Po s Dad is the character s actual name] isn t even a panda! (Aibel Berger, 2008, p. 3). Without explaining that I had already familiar with the situation because I had seen the movie no less than three times in the previous 72 hours, I replied, Is that really important? YES! They both yelled back. AJ unwittingly enlightened me, All the animals are different, but they re ALL important! They all have to do different stuff to help Po be[come] the Dragon Warrior! (A. J. The first thing noticeable is how the cleats were originally white, but have turned a yellowish brownish color like fading summer grass. The right cleat s lace is torn on the end, so I had to even out the laces to be able to tie them. The left shoe has a black broken hair tie, knotted 5 times at the bottom of the lace. It was my girlfriend s before it broke and she let me have it for some extra luck. The once clear , rubber spikes on the bottom had now turned brown and opaque, worn down to about the length of a fingernail. The covering near the toe of the shoe was beginning to rip off, so you could see a light brown rough fabric that structured the cleat. Even though they re ugly, worn out, and ready to be tossed into the trash, these cleats gave me the best two seasons of my life: one season of lacrosse, which turned out to be the season that led to a chance for me to commit to the college of my dreams, and one season of ... To contrast is to show how items are different. Thus comparison and contrast involve pointing out the similarities or differences between two (or more) items. In deciding what to compare or contrast, you will want to make sure that the items share points in common. Thus, the items compared are usually the same kind or class of thing, and in comparing and contrasting them, you essentially establish two or more categories, showing the differences or similarities between or among them. For example, you can compare two passenger cars a Ford and a Cadillac ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But your readers will probably want to know what the similarity or difference amounts to. You can write this for a thesis. However, once you ve noted the difference, the readers will see that you ve merely stated the obvious. Thus comparison and contrast for its own sake is generally pointless, but both are extremely useful to develop support for a thesis. To support the thesis statement we should outline central paragraphs. ❖ Central paragraph organization: When you have decided whether to concentrate on comparison or contrast, you still must decide how to do it. You should organize your comparison or contrast by whichever method suits your material best. Not only would the patient be sick from the infection, but they would not even have anything to show for it. According to the study done by Doctors Yoho, Romaine, and O Neil, the occurrence of infection after liposuction is as low as 1 in 107, with 1 in 70,892 resulting in death (Yoho et al 738). They also provide information from a Dutch study, where half of 107 male patients who had undergone abdominoplasty suffered from some sort of wound infection (Yoho et al 739). Many cosmetic surgeries are targeted at older patients, who are much more likely to get an infection than younger patients. Because the patients are older, they are more likely to also have other health problems, such as diabetes. This also raises their risk factor for infection (Surgical Site Infections). While infections do not tend to be deadly, there is always the possibility of something serious happening. The most dangerous risk of infection is sepsis. This usually occurs in the hospital, after the surgery. The patient would start out with just a fever and redness around the wound site, then if antibiotics are not administered quickly enough, or if the infection is resistant, the infection can progress and begin to shut down organs, leading to death (Sepsis). While the American people were overwhelmed by pride and pleasure from their achievement in making industrial and economic progress, the environment was harmed in an alarming speed. Landscape was transformed, and forests were destroyed due to industrialization. By 1990, only a fraction of the United States Virgin forests were still standing. Farmers cleared trees to plant crops, and loggers cut down large areas of woodland for business profits. More than that, the most horrific thing was the government was willing to encourage loggers to exploit the forests resources by selling them large plots of land in the North West. In other words, the government was inviting loggers to destroy the landscape. Besides the loss of forests, the increasing number of ranching boosted the erosion of landscape. Crops were ... This poem relates the cyclical nature of our economy to each individual life coming full circle. Throughout history, the economy booms and times become prosperous, such as the Roaring 20 s. However, the economy can go bust and ruin lives, such as the Great Depression, just as quickly. This illustrates how the loop of the economy and a human s life are related. This also shows that the balance in this universe cannot be broken or changed. This poem describes being young and having energy, which would be considered the upward swing of your life and the times of a developing economy. Then there is a state of prosperity where one reaches their prime, which would be being at the top of the circular swing and when the economy is booming. And then begins the process of having less energy, not being as prosperous, start of aging; all of which would be considered the downward swing and the economy going bust. And ultimately, death is the lowest point of the swing. This whole cycle then begins all again, but with another life this time. It is not surprising that if the timeline of humanity, then certain aspects such as the economy also follow the circular pattern too. This theme is a double edged sword. • 19. Persuasive Narrative Essay It was my last memory from my class at Meadowbrook, the school s right of passage at the end of the 8th grade year: ziplining in Costa Rica. I felt my stomach tighten as I took a step up to the first platform, took one last deep breath, and jumped. The violent, Costa Rican air whipped around me, spinning my body in a circle like a helicopter blade. I tirelessly squeezed the handlebar with the rough, sandpaper gloves like my life depended on it. Ironically, at the time, I thought it did. I was mortified. After helplessly spinning around for about a minute, I crashed into the end of the line and nervously unhooked my harness. One down, seven to go. The next line began similarly to the first one. I leaped off the platform hesitantly, but the wind had died down and I was able to relax. I gazed across the seemingly endless lush, green landscapes of the Costa Rican mountain ranges in awe. Still choke holding the handlebar, I was not comfortable in the slightest. I left the third platform just a second quicker feeling slightly more secure in the harness. This time, I released the handlebar, leaving my doubts and worries behind. I was about as content as I could possibly be given the circumstances, dangling thousands of feet up in the air in the mountains, supported by a jaded wooden rope an inch in diameter. Two summers ago, I trotted onto the 18th green, up one stroke in the tournament. It felt incredible, all my hard work was finally going to pay off. I had a 2 foot putt with no break, a putt I could make a million times over in my sleep. I placed my hands onto my putter as they gradually started to shake and tremble. I felt my stomach tighten as I realized this gimme putt was nothing I could have ever prepared for. I was ready to get my first tournament win. My hands still wavering, I brought the putter straight back and through. It felt like an eternity as my ball inched closer and closer toward the hole. But instead of reveling in the clink as the ball hit the bottom of the hole, the ball took a left hand turn, hit the edge of the cup, and settled a measly inch or two from the hole. Potential For Victoria s Dairy Industry Potential for Victoria s Dairy Industry to Move towards a Partial Mixed Ration Feeding System Jasmine Hasluck Feed is a major cost in the production of milk so it is important for Victorian dairy farmers to consider which feeding strategy is going to be the most efficient in generating high profit and productivity. We can broadly group dairy feeding strategies into 5 systems (Little, S 2010). System 1 is pasture based with other forages and up to 1 tonne of grain or concentrates fed in bail. System 2 is pasture based with other forages and more than 1 tonne of grain or concentrate fed in bail. It requires minimal capital and infrastructure by allowing cattle to graze pasture. However this system has become less efficient as Victorian dairy farms have become more intense and climatic conditions and milk prices are volatile. Since the price of milk became deregulated in 2000 there was a push for Australian dairy farms to become more productive to remain competitive with international dairy industries (Edwards, G 2003). This led to increases in stocking density and ultimately put pressure on pasture supply. Rainfall is a limiting factor on pasture growth and year to year variability in rainfall has had a huge negative effect on Victorian dairy farmers. In 2009/10 Victoria was faced with severe droughts, which showed a fall in milk production of over 340 million litres (Dairy Australia, 2015). During an extended period of low rainfall the quantity and quality of pasture is limited, which means pasture based farms are forced to buy in supplementary feed and/or irrigation water to satisfy the feed requirements of dairy cattle. Climatic variability poses a high risk in this system, which has led to farmers to start considering other feeding options such as a partial mixed ration which might alleviate this risk. Figure 1. Summary Of In Cold Blood By Truman Capote In Cold Blood by Truman Capote Entry #1: Speaker Truman Capote is described in the biography section of the book as being born in 1924 in New Orleans. He, over his lifetime, wrote a variety of works from short stories to memoirs. In the acknowledgments, he says that the information presented in the book is taken from official records or is the result of interviews. He then goes on to mention some of the important people to help make the book happen like the members of Finney County, the place where the event happened, and notable members of institutions like Kansas State University and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Capote did not find any of the information first hand, nor is he from the state in which the crime occurred. He simply wrote a clear account of what happened by using interviews and police notes after the fact. Truman Capote s relationship to the topic was simply that he volunteered to be the voice of a case that otherwise might not have been heard throughout the country and around the world in full detail and for years to come. Throughout the book, Capote establishes himself as a qualified and trustworthy writer through his use of ethos, or credibility. He shows the degree of precision and accuracy of his facts by mentioning highly trusted individuals and organizations. • 27. Women s Struggle For Equality Women in American society have endured numerous struggles to fight for equality throughout history. Today American women have come a long way by narrowing gender gaps and becoming successful in aspects of life that are prominently male dominated. Although American women are living a better life than they were years ago, they still deal with inequality when it comes to the workforce, income, politics, domestic duties, and sex. The reason women are not equal to men in these aspects of life are because men hold most of the jobs in the STEM fields of work, make higher incomes than women in the same level of employment, dominate congress and the government, not looked upon to take care of the house duties, and are praised for sex rather than shamed like women are. Living as an American woman today is far from difficult but in contrast, living as an American man is still substantially better. Women have dealt with constant battles in the workplace but the most important was the ability to work alongside men in any field of employment. As stated in the article, Women in the Professional Workplace by Jennifer Dorning, the status for women in the workforce has improved over the last several decades, but many women still struggle for equality in many occupations (Dorning). You need to be prepared to drive in a world where rules are an abstract concept, and are rarely applied. Here is the process I went through to obtain my driver s license, and how I barely achieved a goal that was very important to me. Before I could even think about driving myself to school, I had to obtain a learner s permit for 6 months. Most teenagers earn their learner s permit at 15 and a half, their parents give them $365 to go to driving school for 2 weeks, and then they have their license at 16 years old. That was not the case for me. My parents were not as supportive of me nor as excited as most parents would be for their teenagers to get their driver s license. More likely, the reason men did not fight on horseback under Greek and Roman rule is that horsemen are not actually that effective against trained, organized foot soldiers. Both the Greeks, after about 750 BC, and the Romans had trained foot soldiers, but in the medieval period armies did not have the resources to train foot soldiers, and so the cavalry, which is the horses and their riders, became more useful. Chariots are often associated with Classical civilization. For several centuries, they were the primary means of employment for horses and a powerful addition to several ancient armies. The harnessed Greek horse is much more of a spectacular legacy than the ridden horse. The art of driving was mastered long before the art of riding. At the equestrian contests which were held with the athletic games from an early date, there was four horse chariot racing. Simple horse racing was soon added and then chariot races with a team of mules or a single mare, both of which varieties were later abandoned, and then with a pair of full grown stallions and later with younger horses. The horse breeders such as Phainippus, Hipponicus, and Hippocleides, became famous along with the athletes and often sent out their trained horses great distances for competition.
