Gandhi s The Man, His People, And The Empire
In India s history, many men and women have stepped forward to leave a legacy behind. However, no
one has come close to leaving one behind the way Mohandas Gandhi did. Gandhi is known as a
legend by the people of India because he led their country to freedom from British rule. During this
time, Britain was one of the most powerful nations and most heavily armed group of men. The
biography, Gandhi The Man, His People, And The Empire , written by Gandhi s grandson, explains
from a family perspective how Gandhi was a powerful leader that conducted peaceful protest with non
violence. In this biography, the narrator explains some of Gandhi s worst flaws and greatest
achievements. Even though India faced multiple hardships trying to break ... Show more content on

From that moment, Gandhi became cognizant of his values and beliefs. At the end of Gandhi s high
school education, he decided he wanted to be a lawyer. In order to do so, Gandhi sought to go to
England. In Gandhi s own words, It was an uncommon thing for a young man from Rajkot to go to
England (Gandhi 21). Mohandas went to England with a friend, leaving his wife, son, and mother all
behind.
On his trip to England, Mohandas Gandhi struggled with the English language, and how to eat with
utensils. Gandhi, who did not eat meat, survived off sweets and fruits on the ship because he was
afraid to ask which foods were meat free. Rather than engaging with others, Gandhi remained reserved
on the ship. The ship docked on September 29, 1988, and from there, Gandhi took a train to London.
Eventually, Gandhi arrived at the Victoria Hotel, where he stayed.
Gandhi described London to be alive with ideas and movements (Gandhi 29). Gandhi enrolled at the
Inner Temple University, and graduated in 1891. He was then admitted to the bar of England, and
began reading the ideas of David Thoreau on nonviolence. These ideas shaped Gandhi s beliefs on
handling matters without violence. He soon realized he could not be successful as a lawyer in England
and returned to India. However, this did not stop Gandhi s adventures. Gandhi soon traveled to South
Africa to work for a firm. In South Africa, Gandhi

Kant And Jean Jacques Rousseau
Public discourse has commonly been known as the communication of diverse claims between the
public backed by reason and substantive argument. This exchanging of views often happens between
both those who agree with one s sentiment and those who disagree. Since the beginning of
civilization, humans have been given the responsibility of finding a reasonable outcome at the end of
an argument with somebody of opposing views. Through deliberation, both sides of the argument
articulate their reasoning for their views and attempt to find such reasonable outcomes. At times, a
middle ground is unattainable between the two and tension grows. At this point, distinct guidelines
need to be set in regards to the extent in which individuals can exert ... Show more content on

Each person has their personal role in maintaining the common good for those around them and thus
should fulfill it. He believed that fulfilling this task and contributing to society would create happiness
for the individual which would overcome self interest. If those who pursued their personal interests
rather than those of the common good, then they would be seen as selfish and face consequences.
Rousseau believed that each person obtains a natural repugnance to seeing any sentient being,
especially our fellow man, perish or suffer, (DeLue and Dale 190) and that this only changes due to
pity and selfishness. Rousseau did not take kindly to those who were seen as selfish and following self
interest. He stated that a society can banish him [a person who violates citizen norms] not for being
impious but unsociable, for being incapable of sincerely loving the laws and justice, and of sacrificing
his life, if necessary, for his duty, (DeLue and Dale 202). For those who do not pursue the concept of
the common good and question the way of society, they are subject to be removed. A society in which
people contest the civic norm is not one acceptable to Rousseau.
Counter to Jean Jacques Rousseau, Immanuel Kant believed that people should be entitled to
individual freedom and personal interests. Kant aligned with enlightenment thinkers Locke and
Hobbes and was an advocate for rights protecting intellectual freedom. Kant believed that a civil
society required

Abigail Fisher Vs The University Of Texas At Austin Case...
Abigail Fisher vs. The University of Texas at Austin Response
Racial discrimination has been a prevalent issue in America since the beginning. After the Civil Rights
Movement in the 1950s and 1960s, American society has tried to correct its discriminatory behavior,
particularly in the field of education. But some believe this correction to ensure equality of
educational opportunity is infringing on the rights of, not minorities, but whites. The Supreme Court
Case, Abigail Fisher vs. University of Texas at Austin, tried to combat this issue regarding the
discrimination of whites in college admission. Edward Blum uploaded a video on to the internet
summarizing Abigail Fisher s side of the court case. The video entitled Abigail Fisher vs. University
of Texas at Austin lacks ethos, antagonizes the University of Texas for trying to enlarge their student
diversity, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The University of Texas at Austin video fails to accomplish its goal of portraying Fisher s side of the
lawsuit effectively. This is due to its lack of ethos, ignorance regarding the current economical stance
of non white races, and the right of the University of Texas to enhance their student diversity. Fisher is
blind to the fact that non whites have historically faced discrimination, and those historical events
have affected their societal place today. Her statement saying, A good start to ending discrimination
would be getting rid of the boxes on applications, is erasing both the history and the identity of people
of color (Blum). Joel Spring states, Today, the issue of classification is tied to the concept of equality
of educational opportunity (Spring 128). It is important to remember that history has affected modern
society, and we cannot simply erase the idea of race and call it equality. Fisher claiming that the
inclusion of different races in college admission being discriminatory against her is insensitive to
those who have been affected by

Penal Code Section 646 Essay
People can post some foolish things on Facebook. Some posts go beyond embarrassing or ill advised,
though, and can get the poster in serious trouble with the law.
California has four related but distinct laws that make online stalking, harassment, and bullying
criminal offenses. The content and nature of a Facebook post can violate one or all of these laws and
lead to criminal charges and a conviction that could result in time behind bars.
1. Cyberstalking: Penal Code Section 646.9
Just as stalking in real life is a crime in California, as it is in most states, stalking someone online is
also a serious criminal offense.

This escarpment is considered one of the natural wonders in Canada and a great place for a little
family trip. This allows families to spend time together while exploring one of the oldest and the
largest geological areas. There are several landforms to visit at Niagara Escarpment. Some of these
include, limestone cracks, crevices and Lake Crawford, a rare and unique meromictic lake. A
meromictic lake means that the lake has layers of water that do not intermix. This also means that
whatever goes into the water stays down due to the lack of oxygen underwater in meromictic lakes.
Due to this the lake is not used for water supply. The escarpment is also a great place to learn about its
geological history and to see wildlife, landforms and orchids that are not seen anywhere else. Several
landforms found here include dried out waterfalls, fossils, steep slopes, limestone and dolostone.
Endemic species found in Niagara Escarpment include the Blue Jays, Turkey Vultures and Hooded
warblers. Various orchids that can been seen are the Calypso Orchid , Ram s head Lady slipper and
Alaska Rein Orchid. Its history dates back 430 450 millions years when the area was flooded with a
shallow sea. Rivers and bodies of water would carry sand and take it to the ancient seas. They would
also carry silt and clay creating sediment. At this time organic material rich with lime was
accumulating. During the span of a million years,

The Red Horses By Franz Marc Essay
The German artist Franz Marc painted the painting The Red Horses. He was born on February 8,
1880. Most of Franz Marc s influence came from his father who was a landscape artist. As a result of
this, his earliest works were painted in the naturalistic academic style. When Marc met Wassily
Kandinsky in 1910, he joined an expressionist group. Most of the colors that Franz used in his
paintings had a meaning to him or to the painting. The different aspects and the thought that Marc put
into his paintings really made them come together and become what they are now. Marc and
Kandinsky soon formed their own group, called Der Blaue Reiter. Their philosophy in painting
paintings derived from nature was that the painting itself should reflect the spiritual essence of the
object or animal as opposed to the physical embodiment. In 1912, Marc s works became more abstract

In 1911, Germany was being industrialized very quickly, and urbanization was at an all time high. By
this time in his artistic career, Franz Marc had developed an idea of symbolism for the colors used in
his paintings. This was largely influenced by his friendship with Kandinsky. The colors used in The
Red Horses were largely naturalistic colors; there are no neon or unnatural colors. The beginning of
the 20th century in Germany was where expressionism originated. This movement had a large impact
on Marc s paintings as most of his works were of the expressionist movement. His paintings were not
focused on the physical details of the painting, but on the mood and ideas that he was trying to relate
to the viewer. Franz Marc created several paintings in the year of 1911, and a vast majority of them
were related to expressionism. Marc liked nature and seemingly normal actions that animals were
doing. For example, in the painting The Red Horses, the horses are depicted grazing, but looking
deeper into the meaning of the painting, there is more to be

What Is The Moral Of The Story Ivan More Than The Zoo
Ivan is a unique gorilla, he was locked up in a small domain for most of his life (27 years) and is taken
away to a zoo where he has to relearn what he should ve learned a long time ago. He lived in a
shopping mall and he had three friends while he was there (Ruby, Bob and Stella), when he got bored,
he drew. Drawing was what got him out of the mall and into a zoo where he enjoyed his life happily.
Before going into the mall, Ivan lived as a human; he and Mack, his caretaker, went everywhere
together. Then, Ivan grew too big and was transferred to the mall where he lived for more than two
decades. In those years, he met some friends, who talked to him and played with him. Stella was an
elephant, she was very wise and told lots of stories to Ivan and Ruby. Next is Bob, he is a stray dog, he

an animal to gain people s attention and earn money (one example is Ivan s paintings, Mack just

as a gorilla and took care of him instead of just locking him in a cage and giving him a couple bananas
once in a while. Mack used to be good to Ivan when Ivan was little; Mack thought of him as a human
and attended to Ivan a lot, until Ivan grew too big and was sent to the

The Requirements for Verizon FIOS Fiber Optic Cable...
INTRODUCTION The purpose of the Verizon FIOS fiber optic cable Requirements Management Plan
is to establish a common understanding of how requirements will be identified, analyzed, documented,
and managed for the Verizon FIOS fiber optic cable project. Requirements will be divided into two
categories: project requirements and product requirements. Project requirements are the set desires
identified to meet the needs of the project and ensure its achievement and promptness to hand over to
operations. Most will consist of non technical requirements. Product requirements are the set desires
identified to meet the specifications of the technical products that are being produced as a result of the
project: the Verizon FIOS fiber optic cable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In conclusion, the metrics and acceptance criteria will be determined for all requirements to provide a
baseline of understanding the deadline of the requirements at a satisfactory level. Requirements
Documentation: On completion of the requirements identification and analysis, the will then be
documented and assigned to the appropriate individual who will be held accountable. The
requirements will be added to the Verizon FIOS fiber optic cable project plan and the project team will
determine what methodology the appropriate individual will use in order to track and report the status
of each of their requirements. All requirements will then be added to the project requirements
checklist. This checklist should be completed prior to the project closure acceptance done by the
project sponsor. Ongoing Requirements Management: During the project, the project manager is held
responsible to ensure and assist all team members with reporting requirement status. They are also to
inform and react to any issues or concerns with their assigned requirements as needed. In the event of
any changes or alterations during the process of the project, the project manager must make the
appropriate changes utilizing the control process set forth in order to receive approval from the change

Fasb s New Revenue Recognition Guidelines
My topic is FASB s new revenue recognition guidelines. Revenue could not be recognized under the
old model unless the seller had substantially met the terms of the agreement, the seller had delivered
the goods or performed a substantial part of the service, the risks and rewards of ownership had passed
to buyer, Revenue is the largest item in financial statements, and issues involving revenue recognition
are among the most important and difficult that standard setters and accountants face. Revenue
recognition requirements in U.S. GAAP are different from those in IFRSs and both are considered in
need of improvement. U.S. GAAP comprises broad revenue recognition concepts and numerous
industry or transaction specific requirements that can result in different accounting for economically
similar transactions. Although, IFRSs contain less guidance on revenue recognition, its two main
standards IAS 18 Revenue and IAS 11 Construction Contracts can be difficult to understand and apply
beyond simple transactions. Also, they lack guidance on important topics such as revenue recognition
for multiple element arrangements. Reporting inconsistencies in this accounting area arise because
there are no comprehensive accounting standards covering revenue recognition. Several authoritative
accounting pronouncements have addressed detailed, industry specific revenue recognition issues
which caused practitioners to use standards in situations for which they were not intended. As a result,

Lady Windermere s Fan Essay
Morality of the Upper Class in Oscar Wilde s Lady Windermeres Fan Lady Windermere s Fan is a
witty commentary on the wiles of social properness in late 19th century England. Oscar Wilde was a
flamboyant homosexual understandably critical of the norms of his day. Within the play, lie subtle and
overt contradictions about the properness of the high born upper class. During the Victorian period,
strict rules governed mannerisms, protocol, etiquette, decency, etc. This decorum became too
oppressive for Wilde s taste. The morality of the upper class is supposedly the standard of the day, to
which everyone is evaluated. However, in this play, the morality of the main characters pivots more on
the situation instead of social status. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Notice, they are also the smallest of the three layers. Just like in real life! As far as the caliber of
acting, it was superb. (I didn t expect to like it as much as I did!) The timing of mannerisms was tight
and abrupt, as well as the speech. To prevent talking over one another, the characters had to have
precise cuing from the other actors. The Duchess of Berwick STOLE the show. She s the most
colorful character and most vital to the understanding of the conflict. She dictates her role very well
within an embellished gown of supremacy. She has to intersect the other characters paths at just the
right time. She also has to use a lot of facial expressions to convey her character s way of over
emphasizing her opinions. Her animations are overstated like a true snobby aristocrat. Traci Scott is
magnificent! In fact, if you take her out of the play, the whole thing becomes so lackluster. In fact, the
other characters seem purposely insipid to show how much fun, or interesting at best, a little scandal
can be. The scenery was simple and purposeful. This is functional in that the eye is not distracted from
the intended focus: the characters dialogue. Yes, the setting is important, but not to overshadow the
conflict(s) at hand. Some reviews described a mediocre delivery based on the dull scenery. Who
cares? The richness comes from the plot itself and the witty presentation, not what flowers are in the
vase! The scenery is not

Good Earth Lessons
There are many lessons we can learn from books that we imply to our lives today. The Good Earth is
one of these book that show a great deal of lessons learned that are still in use today. In this paper you
will see how what people did in the Good Earth is still used today. This paper will talk about 3 main
points. First and foremost I will talk about land, then I will talk the concept of greed with money,
finally I will end with the concept of change.
Today many countries fight for land and have been for a long time. Land is a very important thing
because it helps with colonization and It help the country look more superior over other countries. In
the Good Earth Wang Lung is always attached to his land, and whenever he gets enough money he
goes and buys more land. This lesson is used not only today but also back in the olden ... Show more

In the book Wang Lung was a poor farmer who valued money a lot and looked down on the poor
when he became rich. This concept of valuing money and looking down on the poor is still around
today. How? An Example are chairs men. A chairman is a person who is the head of a company or an
organization. This is a good example because since they have a lot of power they easily look down on
people. Many people look down on another because of their flaws. This happens everywhere not only
reality but in books as well. Finally onto my third point change in a person s character. In today s
society many people s characteristic change throughout the their lifetimes. In the Good Earth Wang
Lung s characteristic changed from being a loving poor man to a rich lonely man. Characteristics
change in everyone and everything. An example is Demi Lovato because she at first was a shy young
lady who soon became an icon for those young ladies who feel sad and vulnerable. Throughout
society people are different and change is a part of this difference which people throughout the years

Need for the IEEE 802 standard
While connecting computers through networks, we need to have set of rules or standards for the data
to travel from one computer to other computers. A very good example of this would be the rules of the
road when driving a car. It is understood why we need traffic rules while driving; in same sense for
data packets to travel from one computer terminal to other terminals, they should also follow set of
rules and regulations. The standards of IEEE 802 help the industry provide advantages such as,
interoperability, low product cost, and easy to manage standards. (EEHerald, 2012)

The Cost Of Passenger Cruise
1. After running two different regression models using passenger cruise days and number of
passengers to predict which variable better estimates total cost, the data (including a slightly higher
adjusted r squared) suggests the number of passenger cruise days acts as a better predictor of total
costs. The number of passenger cruise days is more economically plausible because it is more logical
to allocate the costs based on the number of passenger cruise days rather than the number of
passengers. More specifically, number of passengers does not fully explain the amount of total costs
because of the varying duration of trips. For example, consider an instance where Carnival
accommodates one thousand passengers on a four day cruise and one thousand passengers on a seven
day cruise. Theoretically total costs would be the same when using number of passengers to explain
total costs because each cruise accommodates the same number of passengers. On the other hand,
when one considers the length of a cruise, total costs should be higher for longer cruises. Per the
example above, a seven day cruise will have higher costs than a four day cruise because of the
additional resources needed to accommodate passengers for a longer period of time. 2. In order to
determine whether two independent variables better explain cost than a single regression (See #1), the
group ran a two separate multiple regression. The first multiple regression was run with the number of
passenger cruise days

The Notion of God in the Lord of the Rings Essay
The classic works of apocalyptic literature, such as the Book of Daniel and the Book of Revelation are
inherently religious and centered around God. As a result, most later apocalyptic literature is also
religiously centered, with God as the instrumental entity (Shaffer 142). Those who have read J.R.R.
Tolkien s The Lord of the Rings remember most vividly the final great battle where evil is overcome
in the apocalyptic ending of an age. Tolkien s bit of apocalyptic literature in The Lord of the Rings
seems different from traditional religious notions of an apocalypse because the entire epic fantasy
seems devoid of religion and any notion of God. Through recognition of the aural imagery in The
Lord of the Rings and comparison with that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In observing congruencies between The Lord of the Rings and Christian thought, Colin Gunton notes,
Evil is an essentially alien power which corrupts and destroys the work of God, and so has to be
destroyed (Gunton 128). This critic believes that God is present in some form in The Lord of the
Rings, and that evil in the story is a force against God. He is saying that where there is evil, there is
also God, and that in The Lord of the Rings, evil is a power against God that God must eradicate.
Because there is evil, and a demigod, Sauron, representative of it, there must be an opposition for the
side of good, and this entity must eradicate the evil.
The classic Christian notion of the way in which God eradicates evil is during the Apocalypse, and
this Apocalypse is recorded in the Book of Revelation, the last book in the New Testament. This
integral work of apocalyptic literature is the only one that gives a complete account, from beginning to
end, of the foretold Christian apocalypse. It is also the basis for Christian apocalyptic belief. In this
book, God is the entity who initiates the Apocalypse, but carries out the act through the help of angels.
When the main physical actions of the Apocalypse are to be committed, it is angels who step forward
to act, And I

It s a high pass and should enable you to speed up the game. This pass requires lots of power to make
it travel faster; if it s slow and loopy a defender could intercept it. For me the power comes from
behind the ball. I spread my fingers around the ball, bend my arms and try to keep my elbows close to
my body. I then lift the ball above my right shoulder (as I m right handed) and let it drop back slightly.
This gives me extra power when I go to release the ball. To make it go through the air faster I put one
foot forward, this also helps me to lean into the pass. I think when you throw a shoulder pass it s best

Racial Relations In Brazil Essay
XIX century, Brazilian culture promoted integration and racial equality. However, racial relations in
Brazil are less then peaceful, regarding the role of disadvantaged regarding black Brazilians and
natives, two groups which were strongly explored in the colonial period and that now occupy less
prestigious positions in the Brazilian modern society. In the Old Republic, Emperor Dom Pedro II
ordered racial whitening of the population, selecting emigrants from Europe to go to Brazil under
Gobineu s racial theory. According to the philosopher, the mixing of races was inevitable and it would
take the human race to levels of physical and intellectual degeneration never seen before. Gobineu is
most famous for his quote: I don t believe we came from monkeys, but I believe we are ... Show more

Few countries had a rich interaction with other races as it happened in Brazil. Since the arrival of the
first Portuguese colonizers, occurred miscegenation with the natives, decades later, after the arrival of
the enslaved Africans, it became a trio hybrid populated country. The Portuguese brought to Brazil
centuries of genetic and cultural integration with other European groups such as the Celtcs and
Lusitanos. Although, the Portuguese are mostly European, seven centuries of living with the Moors in
the north of Africa and Jews, has left this people with a very particular legacy. According to research,

A Doll House
The play A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen portrays characters that are naive, secretive, foolish and
dependent when it comes to their daily life and who they associate with. In the play Nora the wife is
the protagonist. She acts oblivious when it comes to her family and life itself. Nora puts on a facade
that makes her appear to be happy and content with the way her life has turned out, but in reality she is
not as happy as she lets on. At the end of the film Nora confronts a moral choice. She decides to leave
her husband, her children, and the doll house to make a better life for herself. It portrays a moral
choice, because in the life she was living she was never taken seriously by her husband and she was

The Effect Of Bacterial And Fungal Presence On Bacterial...
Rationale and Background.
To date, the majority of microbiological study of soils have centered on bacterial and fungal presence
in the context of plant mutualism [Figure 2]. Additionally, analyses of microbial biomass have
typically utilized indirect models, such as change in soil carbon levels, as a measurement of microbial
growth dynamics (Holden and Treseder 2014). When emphasizing ecological roles of microbes as
nutrient cyclers, this is a useful methodology. However, it has led to a void in understanding of viral
significance in these systems as well as a lack of detailed species level identifications of bacterial and
viral communities prior to and after fire events. The few abundance assays completed regarding
bacteria in soil indicate that one gram of soil contains 108 to 109 bacteria and 109 to 1010 viruses
(Williamson 2005, Van Der Heijden et al. 2008). This incredibly high number necessitates additional
research, if only due to the fact that these organisms numerically overwhelm the system (Van Der
Heijden et al. 2008). It would be irresponsible to ignore such a significant portion of the environment
and attempt to come to ideal land management practices. It has become clear from even the broad
scale respiration and nutrient assays completed that bacterial and viral communities are not a
monolith; in different locations, phylogenetic community composition varies strongly (Williamson
2005, Goberna et al. 2015, Wang et al. 2015, Tas et al. 2014, Dooley and

October 29, 2017 The Things They Carried
How many things do you carry with you every day? Everybody carries things that symbolize who they
are or where they are from. Those things may be heavy, light, or even things that you cannot see. In
the short story The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien, he introduces a lot of symbolism in every
object mentioned, many of them you can see, some you can t see. In this short story, the narrator tells
of the burdens carried by each soldier and the meanings of these things to the men. The things they
carried described in detail the soldier s emotional issues in their lives ... Show more content on

Often, they would share the load of machinery by taking turns carrying the equipment and giving
relief to the men that routinely carried it. This is just some of the things that were specialized to an
individual according to their size or skill. But the soldiers also carried things that weren t so necessary,
yet they would bring these things along anyway for certain personal reasons and a sense of security.
Not only did the soldiers carry heavy physical burdens, they carried heavy emotional burdens of fear
and the need to maintain ties to home. According to Evans, Grief, terror, love, longing these were
intangibles, but the intangibles had their own mass and specific gravity, they had tangible weight
(Evans, 2015). O Brien clearly defines one of the hardest things the men had to carry, By and large
they carried these things inside, maintaining the masks of composure. (O Brien, 1990, p. 184). Henry
Dobbins, who was a big man, always had a lot of extra food with him. He burned up food very quickly
and went through food much faster than most. He would also carry his girlfriend s pantyhose around
his neck. This was his way of telling everybody that he had a girlfriend at home and was sexually
active when he had breaks. The pantyhose symbolized his masculinity and the normal, rational
existence of home. Ted Lavender was the guy who carried tranquilizers, 6 7 ounces of dope, and more

CRITICAL ANALYSIS AND THEORITICAL FRAMEWORKS
DURYODHANA S ENVY
What man of mettle will stand to see his rivals prosper and himself decline
If envy were a fever the whole world would be ill.
Envy is an emotion basic to all human beings. Arising from need for self esteem (Maslow s Need
Hierarchy), envy finds its roots in the distress the envier feels when he sees the good fortune of others.
Envy is a strong emotion with high negative effect that overwhelms the envier with mental stress,
tension and depression, making him mentally ill.
Duryodhana is a classic example of how envy in its extreme has the potential to consume a lead to a
calamity like the Mahabharata. His envy arises when he goes low on self esteem (Maslow s Need
Hierarchy) but has a high need for power and achievement (McClelland s theory). Unable to bear the
prosperity and fortune of his Pandavas cousins he indulges in surface acting and invites Duryodhana
for a friendly game of dice and cheats him under the conspiracy. Also, the perception (cognitive
component) that the Pandavas are more accomplished than him leads to the feeling (affective
component) of envy and combined with his Machiavellianism results in his multiple plots to kill the
Pandavas (behavioural component).Duryodhan also suffers

The Main Techniques of Telling a Story in Various Films Essay
The Main Techniques of Telling a Story in Various Films
The First film I m going to talk about is The Blair witch project which is a story about 3 teenagers
who are filming a documentary about The Blair Witch which is a legend told for years which is said to
be true. They act and talk in dialogue making the film seem real we can also relate to this film if we
have ever filmed ourselves hanging out with our friends as this is simply what this film does. The
characters are fun to start off with but as they get themselves into more situations they become more
miserable and dramatic.
They keep the camera rolling all the way through this which is a very unique, interesting way to tell

The casting of the actors was good and was interesting to see the Woman being the stronger of the
three giving out the orders and how her decision was always final and always looking for someone to
blame, didn t like it when she was wrong and was quite physically strong as she attacks one of her
friends as she finds out he through the map in the pond. She is also the last to crack but when she does
she loses her sense of power and is more feminism with her tears creating emotion and weakness with
the stress of the situation and losing one of the three teenagers as they wake up they ve disappeared.
This role was clear and believable but didn t work very well as women are still seen as being protected
by the men like in all the scream films there is a woman as a stereotypical type victim.
Propp s theory applies to this film the villain or malefactor being the Blair witch, there is no hero as
the characters end in their bloody deaths in a small house, the donor is the sources from the locals
about the Blair witch, the princess is the three teenagers, the false hero is the girl as she tries but fails,
the Blair witch is also the dispatcher. This theory clearly shows that the teenagers seek to where they
shouldn t ending with their bloody deaths so there is no hero

what makes us human. Levi, throughout the book uses characterization in portraying the
dehumanization that occurred within the camp. These acts of dehumanization by the Nazis began even
before Levi and his traveling companions set foot into the camp. The killing of Jews who got off one
side of the train, especially the children were seen as a historical necessity by the Germans and it
began the dehumanization of the Jews entering the camp, that would later be reinforced by the
removal of personal items which helped remove the defining characteristics of each person. Levi

Importance Of Project Management For Construction
Introduction Construction Management is not a new idea. The function of the Construction Manager is
to work on behalf of the owner to complete a project within the plans and specifications provided. In
the last few years construction practices have changed dramatically. Technology, materials,
government bureaucracy, financing, design, and engineering have all advanced. With the complexity
of the construction process increasing, owners demand accountability and accurate guidance during
the entire planning and construction process. The importance of project management to construction

Whilst these factors are sometimes different to the generic model, there is more that they have in
common. Many of these have important implications for the role of project managers in the industry.
According to J.M. Kamara, G. Augenbroe, C.J. Anumba, P.M. Carrillo, (2002) Project management
(PM) is now recognized as a core business concern and intellectual assets play a vital role in gaining
competitive advantage. Within the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry, where
the need for innovation and improved business performance requires the effective deployment and
utilization of project knowledge, the need for strategic knowledge management is also being
acknowledged. This paper reviews various initiatives for PM in order to assess the extent to which it is
being implemented in the AEC sector. Contextual issues are identi. ed, and the findings from two
research projects are used to assess current strategies for PM in AEC firms. These studies show that
effective knowledge management requires a combination of both mechanistic and organic approaches
in an integrated approach that incorporates both technological and organizational/cultural issues. The
paper concludes with recommendations on how this could be achieved in practice. Statement of the

It lacks thorough understanding of its target market (the needs of the present and future customers).
It lacks continuous improvement in its production process in order to reduce production costs.
(Columbia s production cost is higher than that of competitors.) Opportunities
Market development: Columbia can develop new markets to sell its current products. (for example,
expansion to California, Mid Western states and international markets)
Product development: Using the plastic moulding skills, it can develop new or improved products that
will appeal to the customers (for example, improved skylights to reduce heat loss).
Threats
The competitor is cutting its price to a level that Columbia cannot match.
Columbia is steadily loosing its market share to the competitor (at a rate of 1,000 units per year).
Market and competitive analysis
Total sales of skylights are 45,000 units per year, primarily in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and
Montana. The sales of skylights have levelled off in recent years. Prior to the advent of Vancouver

breed, to the time the wild dogs ranged in packs through the primeval forest and killed their meat as
they ran it down. It was no task for him to learn to fight with cut and slash and the quick wolf snap. In
this manner had fought forgotten ancestors. They quickened the old life within him, and the old tricks
which they had stamped into the heredity of the breed were his tricks. They came to him without effort
or discovery, as though they had been his always. And when, on the still cold nights, he pointed his
nose at a star and howled long and wolflike, it was his ancestors, dead and dust, pointing nose at star
and howling down through the centuries and through him. And his cadences were their cadences, the
cadences which voiced their woe and what to them was the meaning of the stiffness, and the cold, and

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (2005) states Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
experience lower levels of employment, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait adults in 2002 being more
than twice as likely to be unemployed, compared to mainstream Australian adults.
According to international research, there is indication that low socioeconomic status is associated
with poor health and increased exposure to health risk factors (Blakely, Hales Woodward, 2004;
Turrell Mathers, 2000; Carson, Dunbar, Chenhall Ballie, 2007, as cited in Australian Bureau of
Statistics, 2008). Data shows that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people without completion of
education were more likely to habitually smoke, consume high volumes of alcohol, engage in low
levels of exercise and were less likely to eat fruit and vegetables on a day to day basis (ABS, 2008).
Other social influences relating to the issue of poor health include low income, unhygienic living
conditions and remote location (Healey, 2002). Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with low
income have little available funds for purchasing health care and dietary needs and those living in
remote areas have restricted access to health facilities and resources (ABS, 2008; Australian

How Norman Castles Changed During The Middle Ages
Introduction
Castles first came to England in 1066 when William, Duke of Normandy, won the battle of Hastings.
The Normans needed castles because they had taken control of England by force and were hated by
many English people. The Normans had to protect themselves from English rebellions and they
needed to keep power over and show strength to the English people. William made sure that castles
were built all over England in major towns. The first castles were built very quickly and were very
simple, but during the reign of William and throughout the rest of the Middle Ages (1066 1500) the
design of castles changed. In this essay I will talk about how much castles changed during the Middle
Ages and the reasons for this.

Better living conditions for the Norman barons with bedrooms, kitchens, a chapel and toilets
(Garderobes).
Square Keep castles had lots of strengths: They were a show of power against the English and really
difficult to attack because of their thick stone walls and height. They also gave better living
conditions. They did still have weaknesses though: They were expensive, took a long time to build,
they could not be moved and they could still be attacked by enemies by:
Setting really hot fires under the corners (weak points) until they collapsed.
Using battering rams.
Starving out the Normans by not letting food in.
Tunneling and mining under the castle walls.
Using archers and catapults to fire arrows and rocks over the castle walls.
The corners were blind spots an attacker could hide behind corners.
These problems led to a change of design towards the end of the 12th Century once Edward I became
king. Under his reign the design of round stone castles and keeps began. The round castle keep meant
that there was nowhere the enemy could not be seen and took away the weaknesses of having corners.
Concentric Castles (1239 1400)
Concentric castles were a castle within a castle idea and were built to be as difficult to attack as
possible. Castles were very important as there were still lots of wars in England with many people
fighting for power.

  • 2. Gandhi s The Man, His People, And The Empire In India s history, many men and women have stepped forward to leave a legacy behind. However, no one has come close to leaving one behind the way Mohandas Gandhi did. Gandhi is known as a legend by the people of India because he led their country to freedom from British rule. During this time, Britain was one of the most powerful nations and most heavily armed group of men. The biography, Gandhi The Man, His People, And The Empire , written by Gandhi s grandson, explains from a family perspective how Gandhi was a powerful leader that conducted peaceful protest with non violence. In this biography, the narrator explains some of Gandhi s worst flaws and greatest achievements. Even though India faced multiple hardships trying to break ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From that moment, Gandhi became cognizant of his values and beliefs. At the end of Gandhi s high school education, he decided he wanted to be a lawyer. In order to do so, Gandhi sought to go to England. In Gandhi s own words, It was an uncommon thing for a young man from Rajkot to go to England (Gandhi 21). Mohandas went to England with a friend, leaving his wife, son, and mother all behind. On his trip to England, Mohandas Gandhi struggled with the English language, and how to eat with utensils. Gandhi, who did not eat meat, survived off sweets and fruits on the ship because he was afraid to ask which foods were meat free. Rather than engaging with others, Gandhi remained reserved on the ship. The ship docked on September 29, 1988, and from there, Gandhi took a train to London. Eventually, Gandhi arrived at the Victoria Hotel, where he stayed. Gandhi described London to be alive with ideas and movements (Gandhi 29). Gandhi enrolled at the Inner Temple University, and graduated in 1891. He was then admitted to the bar of England, and began reading the ideas of David Thoreau on nonviolence. These ideas shaped Gandhi s beliefs on handling matters without violence. He soon realized he could not be successful as a lawyer in England and returned to India. However, this did not stop Gandhi s adventures. Gandhi soon traveled to South Africa to work for a firm. In South Africa, Gandhi ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Kant And Jean Jacques Rousseau Public discourse has commonly been known as the communication of diverse claims between the public backed by reason and substantive argument. This exchanging of views often happens between both those who agree with one s sentiment and those who disagree. Since the beginning of civilization, humans have been given the responsibility of finding a reasonable outcome at the end of an argument with somebody of opposing views. Through deliberation, both sides of the argument articulate their reasoning for their views and attempt to find such reasonable outcomes. At times, a middle ground is unattainable between the two and tension grows. At this point, distinct guidelines need to be set in regards to the extent in which individuals can exert ... He believed that fulfilling this task and contributing to society would create happiness for the individual which would overcome self interest. If those who pursued their personal interests rather than those of the common good, then they would be seen as selfish and face consequences. Rousseau believed that each person obtains a natural repugnance to seeing any sentient being, especially our fellow man, perish or suffer, (DeLue and Dale 190) and that this only changes due to pity and selfishness. Rousseau did not take kindly to those who were seen as selfish and following self interest. He stated that a society can banish him [a person who violates citizen norms] not for being impious but unsociable, for being incapable of sincerely loving the laws and justice, and of sacrificing his life, if necessary, for his duty, (DeLue and Dale 202). For those who do not pursue the concept of the common good and question the way of society, they are subject to be removed. A society in which people contest the civic norm is not one acceptable to Rousseau. Counter to Jean Jacques Rousseau, Immanuel Kant believed that people should be entitled to individual freedom and personal interests. • 4. Abigail Fisher Vs The University Of Texas At Austin Case... Abigail Fisher vs. The University of Texas at Austin Response Racial discrimination has been a prevalent issue in America since the beginning. After the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s, American society has tried to correct its discriminatory behavior, particularly in the field of education. But some believe this correction to ensure equality of educational opportunity is infringing on the rights of, not minorities, but whites. The Supreme Court Case, Abigail Fisher vs. University of Texas at Austin, tried to combat this issue regarding the discrimination of whites in college admission. Edward Blum uploaded a video on to the internet summarizing Abigail Fisher s side of the court case. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The University of Texas at Austin video fails to accomplish its goal of portraying Fisher s side of the lawsuit effectively. This is due to its lack of ethos, ignorance regarding the current economical stance of non white races, and the right of the University of Texas to enhance their student diversity. Fisher is blind to the fact that non whites have historically faced discrimination, and those historical events have affected their societal place today. Her statement saying, A good start to ending discrimination would be getting rid of the boxes on applications, is erasing both the history and the identity of people of color (Blum). Joel Spring states, Today, the issue of classification is tied to the concept of equality of educational opportunity (Spring 128). It is important to remember that history has affected modern society, and we cannot simply erase the idea of race and call it equality. The content and nature of a Facebook post can violate one or all of these laws and lead to criminal charges and a conviction that could result in time behind bars. 1. Cyberstalking: Penal Code Section 646.9 Just as stalking in real life is a crime in California, as it is in most states, stalking someone online is also a serious criminal offense. • 7. The Red Horses By Franz Marc Essay The German artist Franz Marc painted the painting The Red Horses. He was born on February 8, 1880. Most of Franz Marc s influence came from his father who was a landscape artist. As a result of this, his earliest works were painted in the naturalistic academic style. When Marc met Wassily Kandinsky in 1910, he joined an expressionist group. Most of the colors that Franz used in his paintings had a meaning to him or to the painting. The different aspects and the thought that Marc put into his paintings really made them come together and become what they are now. Marc and Kandinsky soon formed their own group, called Der Blaue Reiter. Their philosophy in painting paintings derived from nature was that the painting itself should reflect the spiritual essence of the object or animal as opposed to the physical embodiment. By this time in his artistic career, Franz Marc had developed an idea of symbolism for the colors used in his paintings. This was largely influenced by his friendship with Kandinsky. The colors used in The Red Horses were largely naturalistic colors; there are no neon or unnatural colors. The beginning of the 20th century in Germany was where expressionism originated. This movement had a large impact on Marc s paintings as most of his works were of the expressionist movement. His paintings were not focused on the physical details of the painting, but on the mood and ideas that he was trying to relate to the viewer. Franz Marc created several paintings in the year of 1911, and a vast majority of them were related to expressionism. Marc liked nature and seemingly normal actions that animals were doing. • 11. Fasb s New Revenue Recognition Guidelines My topic is FASB s new revenue recognition guidelines. Revenue could not be recognized under the old model unless the seller had substantially met the terms of the agreement, the seller had delivered the goods or performed a substantial part of the service, the risks and rewards of ownership had passed to buyer, Revenue is the largest item in financial statements, and issues involving revenue recognition are among the most important and difficult that standard setters and accountants face. Revenue recognition requirements in U.S. GAAP are different from those in IFRSs and both are considered in need of improvement. U.S. GAAP comprises broad revenue recognition concepts and numerous industry or transaction specific requirements that can result in different accounting for economically similar transactions. Although, IFRSs contain less guidance on revenue recognition, its two main standards IAS 18 Revenue and IAS 11 Construction Contracts can be difficult to understand and apply beyond simple transactions. Also, they lack guidance on important topics such as revenue recognition for multiple element arrangements. Reporting inconsistencies in this accounting area arise because there are no comprehensive accounting standards covering revenue recognition. Several authoritative accounting pronouncements have addressed detailed, industry specific revenue recognition issues which caused practitioners to use standards in situations for which they were not intended. During the Victorian period, strict rules governed mannerisms, protocol, etiquette, decency, etc. This decorum became too oppressive for Wilde s taste. The Duchess of Berwick STOLE the show. She s the most colorful character and most vital to the understanding of the conflict. She dictates her role very well within an embellished gown of supremacy. She has to intersect the other characters paths at just the right time. She also has to use a lot of facial expressions to convey her character s way of over emphasizing her opinions. This is a good example because since they have a lot of power they easily look down on people. Many people look down on another because of their flaws. • 18. The Cost Of Passenger Cruise 1. After running two different regression models using passenger cruise days and number of passengers to predict which variable better estimates total cost, the data (including a slightly higher adjusted r squared) suggests the number of passenger cruise days acts as a better predictor of total costs. The number of passenger cruise days is more economically plausible because it is more logical to allocate the costs based on the number of passenger cruise days rather than the number of passengers. More specifically, number of passengers does not fully explain the amount of total costs because of the varying duration of trips. For example, consider an instance where Carnival accommodates one thousand passengers on a four day cruise and one thousand passengers on a seven day cruise. Theoretically total costs would be the same when using number of passengers to explain total costs because each cruise accommodates the same number of passengers. On the other hand, when one considers the length of a cruise, total costs should be higher for longer cruises. Per the example above, a seven day cruise will have higher costs than a four day cruise because of the additional resources needed to accommodate passengers for a longer period of time. 2. In order to determine whether two independent variables better explain cost than a single regression (See #1), the group ran a two separate multiple regression. He is saying that where there is evil, there is also God, and that in The Lord of the Rings, evil is a power against God that God must eradicate. • 24. The Effect Of Bacterial And Fungal Presence On Bacterial... Rationale and Background. To date, the majority of microbiological study of soils have centered on bacterial and fungal presence in the context of plant mutualism [Figure 2]. Additionally, analyses of microbial biomass have typically utilized indirect models, such as change in soil carbon levels, as a measurement of microbial growth dynamics (Holden and Treseder 2014). When emphasizing ecological roles of microbes as nutrient cyclers, this is a useful methodology. However, it has led to a void in understanding of viral significance in these systems as well as a lack of detailed species level identifications of bacterial and viral communities prior to and after fire events. The few abundance assays completed regarding bacteria in soil indicate that one gram of soil contains 108 to 109 bacteria and 109 to 1010 viruses (Williamson 2005, Van Der Heijden et al. 2008). This incredibly high number necessitates additional research, if only due to the fact that these organisms numerically overwhelm the system (Van Der Heijden et al. 2008). It would be irresponsible to ignore such a significant portion of the environment and attempt to come to ideal land management practices. It has become clear from even the broad scale respiration and nutrient assays completed that bacterial and viral communities are not a monolith; in different locations, phylogenetic community composition varies strongly (Williamson 2005, Goberna et al. 2015, Wang et al. 2015, Tas et al. 2014, Dooley and ... The Main Techniques of Telling a Story in Various Films Essay The Main Techniques of Telling a Story in Various Films The First film I m going to talk about is The Blair witch project which is a story about 3 teenagers who are filming a documentary about The Blair Witch which is a legend told for years which is said to be true. They act and talk in dialogue making the film seem real we can also relate to this film if we have ever filmed ourselves hanging out with our friends as this is simply what this film does. The characters are fun to start off with but as they get themselves into more situations they become more miserable and dramatic. They keep the camera rolling all the way through this which is a very unique, interesting way to tell the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The casting of the actors was good and was interesting to see the Woman being the stronger of the three giving out the orders and how her decision was always final and always looking for someone to blame, didn t like it when she was wrong and was quite physically strong as she attacks one of her friends as she finds out he through the map in the pond. She is also the last to crack but when she does she loses her sense of power and is more feminism with her tears creating emotion and weakness with the stress of the situation and losing one of the three teenagers as they wake up they ve disappeared. This role was clear and believable but didn t work very well as women are still seen as being protected by the men like in all the scream films there is a woman as a stereotypical type victim. Propp s theory applies to this film the villain or malefactor being the Blair witch, there is no hero as the characters end in their bloody deaths in a small house, the donor is the sources from the locals about the Blair witch, the princess is the three teenagers, the false hero is the girl as she tries but fails, the Blair witch is also the dispatcher. This theory clearly shows that the teenagers seek to where they shouldn t ending with their bloody deaths so there is no hero ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (2005) states Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experience lower levels of employment, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait adults in 2002 being more than twice as likely to be unemployed, compared to mainstream Australian adults. According to international research, there is indication that low socioeconomic status is associated with poor health and increased exposure to health risk factors (Blakely, Hales Woodward, 2004; Turrell Mathers, 2000; Carson, Dunbar, Chenhall Ballie, 2007, as cited in Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2008). The Normans needed castles because they had taken control of England by force and were hated by many English people. The Normans had to protect themselves from English rebellions and they needed to keep power over and show strength to the English people. William made sure that castles were built all over England in major towns. The first castles were built very quickly and were very simple, but during the reign of William and throughout the rest of the Middle Ages (1066 1500) the design of castles changed. Better living conditions for the Norman barons with bedrooms, kitchens, a chapel and toilets (Garderobes). Square Keep castles had lots of strengths: They were a show of power against the English and really difficult to attack because of their thick stone walls and height. They also gave better living conditions. They did still have weaknesses though: They were expensive, took a long time to build, they could not be moved and they could still be attacked by enemies by: Setting really hot fires under the corners (weak points) until they collapsed. Using battering rams. Starving out the Normans by not letting food in. Tunneling and mining under the castle walls. Using archers and catapults to fire arrows and rocks over the castle walls. The corners were blind spots an attacker could hide behind corners. These problems led to a change of design towards the end of the 12th Century once Edward I became king. Under his reign the design of round stone castles and keeps began. The round castle keep meant that there was nowhere the enemy could not be seen and took away the weaknesses of having corners. Concentric Castles (1239 1400) Concentric castles were a castle within a castle idea and were built to be as difficult to attack as possible.
