Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are becoming more common weapons. This presentation outlines the threats from common IEDs like pipe bombs, which use pipes filled with explosives to kill, and basic IEDs that can be hidden in everyday items like briefcases, backpacks, and executive briefcases. These basic IEDs are fabricated using materials like alarm clocks, batteries, tape, wire, and explosives that turn innocent-looking objects into deadly bombs. Proper training is needed for executive protection units to recognize and avoid these IED threats.
